A bit about Dear Neighbours,

“The Tuff leyley-Link” Link”

3

Welcome to the July edition of your Tuffley Link. This month sees the start of the School Summer holidays and the count down for a lot of us to our Summer holiday. With the Summer Holidays hopefully comes good weather (She says with her fingers crossed!), and so a time of year when we enjoy spending more time outdoors in our gardens. We have a variety of garden maintenance companies on board who can help get your garden into ship shape so you can enjoy the Summer and hold those BBQ parties with pride! We are proud to say that this month also sees the Tuffley Link Directory celebrate 3 years of publication. So to celebrate this we are offering new businesses a birthday offer of ‘Buy 3 months advertising in July and get 3 months Free’ - this can for a total of 6 months in one directory or 2 months but in all 3 directories (so a total of 6 adverts placed). See our advert on page 14 or email me for more details. When I spoke to one of our customers this month about seeing if they are happy to continue with their advertising in our directories - their response was…”Thanks for the reminder. We would most definitely like to renew for an other 6 months on all 3 links. We have found a great response from the Tuffley Link and wished we did it sooner!!!!!” I would also like to take this opportunity to say a ‘Thankyou’ to all of you as with out you using the businesses in the directory we would not be able to publish the Tuffley Link on such a regular basis. The winner of this months Sudoku competition is Emily Gammon, Cineworld tickets will be on their way to you. To be in with a chance to win Cineworld Tickets, see page 17. Please feel free to email me your Sudoku entries if you so wish: sarah@thelinkdirectories.co.uk Have a great month and enjoy your holiday if you are going away this month... Sarah. Hearts and Hurricanes WI We are a young, informal and friendly WI group who meet on the second Wednesday of every month at 7.30pm in the Community Room at Coopers Edge School. We've had several new members recently, and would still love to welcome more. If you fancy it, feel free to come along to our next meeting. You can contact us first if you prefer (details below). At our June meeting we had a vintage tea party to celebrate 100 years of the WI, and a member's husband, a history enthusiast, gave us a talk on WW1 and the foundations of the WI. For our July meeting (Weds 8) we're having a go at the very practical skill of car maintenance, and in August (Weds 12) we're being slightly more feminine and trying flower arranging. In September (Weds 9) we're hoping to have a chocolate tasting - how could you resist?! In between the monthly meetings we also hold other monthly clubs for WI members: book club, craft club, a dining club, as well as regular social events such as cinema and theatre trips. We always include time during our meetings for tea (or wine!) and cake and a chance to chat with other members. It's a great way of making new friends. For more information, please see www.heartsandhurricaneswi.weebly.com. You can also contact us on 07934 170304 or heartsandhurricaneswi@hotmail.co.uk. Why not give it a go - you know you want to!

What's it worth? In 2010, a Picasso painting was sold for $106.5 million beating the previous record by over $2 million, then in 2009 someone paid $12 million for a 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa; these are some of the most expensive items sold at auction. Now I love watching television programs like Antiques Roadshow for two reasons that I am sure many others watch. Firstly, the undiscovered masterpiece which the unsuspecting member of the public has brought, wrapped up in newspaper and carried casually in a shopping bag which is then valued at a 'jaw-dropping' price leaving the poor owner stunned and also now very concerned how they are going to get the said item home again in one piece. The second and possibly more compelling reason to watch is the person who has a suspicion that they have in their possession a very rare and valuable object, who is then told it is not worth a lot because when they have tried to mend it with super glue or have stuck the lid down with tape, it was rendered worthless. We all have things in our lives which we value, whether a possession, someone who is dear to us or maybe it is a moment of time dedicated to a particular activity. These things may be worth very little to someone else but because of an attachment, a memory of a loved one or a passion for a pastime, these things are priceless to us. In an interview, television host Oprah Winfrey said that the one thing she would save from her home should disaster strike would be a photo album of her dogs; perhaps rescuing the dogs first would be a better solution. With so much value put on things or experiences, how do we value ourselves? Are we worth what we have in the bank, or what others feel we have achieved? Is who we are or what we have done the true value of our life? I am reminded of two things written in the Bible. Firstly that if God cares enough to clothe that plants in the field with the splendour of their flowers, how much more must he be concerned about us? And that love, I believe was demonstrated when he willingly went to unthinkable lengths to make it possible to have a relationship with Him. So my prayer is that maybe we will see ourselves not just through the eyes of those around us but through the eyes of God and realise how much He thinks we are worth.
