Welcome Cedars, Douglas firs, hemlocks ... they are the trees of our woods. Thick, lush and evergreen, they provide the canopy that Little School students have played beneath for decades. Their roots run deep and wide, supporting majestic trunks while inviting new green growth. The Little School is engaged in a parallel human version of this forest evolution. The three-year-olds that begin in the Meadows, tentative and eager, learn and mature as they move to the Woods, getting ready to stand tall to go out on their own. Well, not quite yet! For all our students there are many more years to grow. And we are all lucky to be part of this growth process. Tonight, we gather for Walk in the Woods – The Little School 2018 Auction. It is a celebration of possibilities, of children learning to stand tall on their own two feet, self-aware, inquisitive, generous and honest. Much like the trees in our woods they adapt and grow a bit each day and each year toward full height. The Auction helps make it possible. As you enjoy the festivities, your friends, the dinner, the cool experiences and amazing class projects, I hope your competitive spirit gets the better of you. I hope you raise your hand (and bid number) high just like the tallest branches on the tallest trees in our woods. Reach up to bring something fun home, and reach up to fund financial aid. Help create the largest financial canopy possible for all our students, and have fun while you are at it!
