Niswonger Performing Arts Center December 19th, 7:30pm It’s Christmas Eve in London. The year is 1886. Come see the wonderful adaptation of the seasonal classic “A Christmas Carol” at the Niswonger Performing
Arts Center in historic downtown Greeneville. The two act musical ǡ December 19th at 7:30 pm. adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is rich with ǡ color and movement and is created to tell this great and enduring tale in a manner that people of all ages will enjoy. Woven throughout this classic tale are beautiful new arrangements and moving
renditions of holiday songs such as God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemenǡ Wassail Wassailǡ Good Christian Men Rejoiceǡ Away in a Mangerǡ Greensleevesǡ Boar’s Head Carol and many more. Featuring a cast ʹͶ ǡ ǡ and Broadway-‐style scenery and ǡ holiday classic. ǯ ǣ Dz think of this adaptation and the production of A Christmas Carol as a masque. It is not a musical comedy. The songs do not move the Ǣ ǡ Ǥ Each song or carol was chosen for the dramatic atmosphere it Ǥ Bennett’s scoring is contemporary Ǥ The language and the story of Ǥ have taken one major liberty. The original novella was published in 1843. I have moved the time forward forty years to 1886. By this time the secular English Christmas customs were fairly well
established as we know them today. By 1886 the German Christmas Tree had become an English form. We also found that the costume silhouettes from the 1880’s were more attractive and created more Ǯ ǡǯ not unlike those found in the paintings of Currier and Ives. ǡ production is presentational. It unashamedly takes advantage of live theatre. The characters are larger than life could ever be. The sets and costumes were faithfully ǡ ǡ fancifully carried past reality. The production has been complimented repeatedly by those ǡ Ǯ ǡǯ Ǯ ǡǯ Ǯ mind when you were a child.’ The credit for this wizardry must go to ǡ ǡ

The Arts and Entertainment District is hosting the 3rd Annual Student Art Gallery in Downtown Ǥ Dz ǯ ǡdz has invited the local schools to help us beautify our community by providing art to decorate the Furniture Building on State Street. Mars Odyssey since 2002 and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter since 2006 have been watching the Red Planet round the clock. And on ǡ Opportunity is in its 9th ǡ Mars Odyssey is in its second year. Both have discovered evidence of water and unique minerals and land formations on Mars. ǡ ǡ nothing like astronomers in the ͳͻͷͲ Ǥ ǡ ʹͲͲ ǡ of asteroids and millions of comets. We see photos of these objects from ǡ suddenly they are an alien world of their own uniqueness that are now intimately in our minds. ͳͻͷͲ ͻͲͲǦ ǡ Ǣ ǡ Ǧ ǡ ǡ
oceans and rivers. And how about ǡ -‐200 degree F. methane on Saturn’s large moon Titan; and the geysers on Neptune moon Triton gushing water hundreds of miles high. Who knew that many asteroids look like ǡ ǫ ǫ It is the unpredictability of what
