Letter From the Publisher
My momma always said, “If you’re gonna go, go whole-hog.”
Well, this summer has definitely done just that.
“Whole-hog” also known as “the most.” “Bold” is another word that comes to mind as I sit here and think about the month of August, and it’s definitely the word that comes to mind when I think about this heat.
It’s also the best way to describe us Southerners. We brave this humidity every year and make it look easy. With bold dresses and sunbathing rituals, outdoor yoga, open-air markets and warm summer nights filled with friends, somehow we make walking out of a cold air-conditioned building into a hot summer scorcher feel like whatever.
Bold is the colors of the flowers and the dragonflies.
Bold is what I think of when I think of this month’s features. From the bold art and life of local artist Amanda Weldon, to the work of Boyz 2 Men founder, Shawna Love, who boldly takes on the task of enriching the lives of our young men. From the bold sound of local musical group The Velvet Cab to the bold heterogeneous of local artist, writer, dancer, smile-generator and overall talent of EMusical (aka our friend, Sherman Williams).
Bold is how I hope you take on the day.
It’s also how I want you to look at our calendar of events, because anyone who created an event in the month of August is, you guessed it – Bold.
In a world that can often reward conformity, being bold and daring can be a refreshing and empowering choice. Stepping outside of our comfort zones, taking calculated risks, embracing innovation, and overcoming fear can lead to profound personal growth and remarkable achievements.
Boldness has a contagious effect, so let us strive to embrace the power of the season, let boldness unlock our true potential, and truly make a lasting impact on both ourselves and those around us.
Just remember to wear a sunblock you really like, remind people that the intersections downtown are regular intersections and you don’t have to sit in the middle of them for the light to turn green, and as always this time of year, drink lots of water.
