The project - acting as a catalyst for an emerging life sciences district in Long Island City, takes queues from its history while expanding the developable parcel into a unique, thoughtful whole. Its clever and sexy without being crass and over the top. Like all good fabric buildings, it makes the neighborhood it's in better for it. Like any good preservation project, there is no confusion between old and new, and both sides of the duality are made more interesting by the conversation across the eras.
