5 Things to Do in Salento, Colombia Did you know 50% of Colombia’s coffee is grown in Salento? It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country, thanks to its scenic beauty and wonderful architecture. If you’re not so sure about visiting, here’s a list of things to do in Salento, Columbia – this should tempt you! 1. Visit the Cocora Valley: The Cocora Valley is home to one of the largest wax palms and is a part of the Los Nevados National Natural Park. If Salento is on your itinerary, a hike to the Cocora Valley is on the list of things to do in Salento, Columbia. There are plenty of exciting trails – pick one that’s right for you. Or, you could rent a horse to ride out the journey. Some of the other activities to enjoy at Valle de Cocora include bird watching, mountain biking, and rafting. 2. Catch a Glimpse from a Mirador: A mirador is technically a balcony offering a great view. At Salento, tourists can climb up a staircase to enjoy a panoramic view of Salento. There’s another stairway that offers you a glimpse of the Cocora Valley. No matter which stairway you choose, the view from the top is magnificent. But what’s more important is to enjoy the view on the streets of Calle Real. Take a Coffee Plantation Tour: The town of Salento is a part of the coffee triangle or the Zona Cafetera – a region that produces some of the world’s best coffee. You can either take a bus ride or hire a taxi to one of the many coffee plantations dotting Salento for a guided tour. You’ll get to learn everything about coffee harvesting and brewing, and even have an aromatic sample of java to taste! 4. Eat in Salento: One of the best things to do in Salento, Columbia is to enjoy a giant Patacón Pisao which literally means stepped on plantain – i.e., plantains that are fried, flattened, and then layered with cheese, bacon, salsa, and even guacamole. Salento is also famous for another of its signature dishes– trucha con leche de coco or trout with coconut milk. Trout is one of the most popular seafood in Salento with almost every restaurant serving it in myriad ways.


5. Paragliding: Not many know this, but paragliding is one of the many things to do in Salento, Columbia. The greenery in and around the Cocora Valley offers the perfect opportunity for adventure seekers to soar over the clouds and enjoy the scenery.
