Morehouse to Host Focus Group Following Recent Deaths At The Hands of Police Press Release by The Maroon Tiger The recent deaths of Ezell Ford, Eric Garner, and Michael Brown at the hands of police have sparked national discussions about race, politics, and police brutality. These conversations will come to Morehouse College this Thursday, August 28, 2014 in a panel titled Power Shift: Racial Inequality and Where We Go From Here. The panel, hosted by The Maroon Tiger and the Pi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., will be a town-hall style think-tank session that explores American racial inequality in the 21st Century, the state of millennial activism, and the path forward. "It would be remiss for us, not only black males at Morehouse College, but as students of the Atlanta University Center, a place that breeds social activists and change agents, to not have this conversation to devise a plan –with professors and students alike –to combat what are unfortunate social norms,” Oshea Johnson, one of the organizers of the event said. “We plan to use this program as a platform to have a productive conversation on the seemingly never-ending open season on Black bodies and, together, tilt the scale toward justice and truth." The panel will feature a number of Morehouse professors including: HuffPost writer and CNN commentator Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, Director of the Morehouse Male Initiative Bryant Marks, Professor of Philosophy Dr. Illya Davis, and Professor of Sociology Dr. Derrick Bryan. The panel will take place at 7:21PM in the African-American Hall of Fame on the campus of Morehouse College. For more information, contact The Maroon Tiger’s PR Team: mtigerprteam@gmail.com
