TRAMLINES HEADLINERS ECHO THE SOUND OF THE CITY The line-up for Tramlines 2010, Sheffield’s free urban music festival, is announced today (Tuesday 11th May). Although Tramlines is only in its second year, 250 acts across four stages and 50 city centre venues prove that it is already established as a major force on the UK festival scene. Headliners include; Echo and the Bunnymen, Mystery Jets, Simian Mobile Disco DJ set, Future of the Left, Darwin Deez, The King Blues, The Hoosiers, Craig David, Dum Dum Girls, Annie Mac and Toddla T. Festival organisers are hoping to double last year’s attendance of 35,000 with the Main Stage

on Devonshire Green having an increased capacity of 8,000. Tramlines, however, is about a lot more than big headline acts. The festival extends across the entire city to showcase every aspect of Sheffield’s music community and includes a Youth Music Festival, Blues trail and a Ceilidh. The special relationships the festival organisers have forged with Hallam FM, Sheffield City Council and Drowned in Sound have contributed to a vast and hugely diverse line-up. New venues joining Tramlines for the first time include the O2 Academy, which plays host to Ollie Hayes and special guests with Hallam FM on Saturday

night. The Leadmill celebrates its first year in the festival fold with a return of Focus. There is also a brand new platform, The New Music Stage outside City Hall, which features Blood Red Shoes, and Chapel Club, all under the Drowned in Sound banner. Drowned in Sound will also be hosting nights at The Harley and The Foundry. One of last year’s star curators, Toddla T, returns to head up an all-star line-up at the Octagon, where Toddla will do battle with Annie Mac, Mary Anne-Hobbs and Oris Jay. Also on a dance theme, Simian Mobile Disco promise to shake the foundations of DQ on Friday with one of their legendary

DJ sets. Although the full line-up is yet to be announced, many music lovers from all over the UK are already planning their summer trip to Tramlines. Travel South Yorkshire is lending its support, with schemes to bring visitors in from the outskirts of Sheffield and beyond. Student housing group Unite has signed up as accommodation partner for the festival, offering student digs for £30 per person per night. James O’Hara, one of the Festival Organisers at Tramlines, said: “We are expecting Tramlines to attract about twice as many people this year as it did last, so we have had a chance to really reach out to more venues. Many of the

big venues and clubs are now involved, including The O2 Academy, The Leadmill, Corporation and DQ. Sheffield University has given us the Fusion & Foundry, The Octagon and The Raynor Lounge. The West End, S1, Rise at The Hallamshire and The Red House have also joined us. It should be huge!” With the support of Sheffield Is My Planet, Tramlines will also be taking its first substantial green footsteps this year. Alongside a host of green initiatives being developed for the festival, we will be hosting a Solar Powered Disco for 400 lucky revellers. The record number of venues will also be

matched by a record number of local traders. There are currently over 40 Sheffield traders, including caterers, clothing retailers and much more. Festival co-founder Sarah Nulty sums it up: “We are all really excited about this year’s event. The line-up is brilliant – bigger than last year’s and really well balanced. The enthusiasm in the city for the festival is making everything so much easier this year. We reckon we are on for a fantastic party! Our aim as a festival is to offer something for everyone, and we also hope that

everyone enjoys hearing something they may not usually listen to. With so many venues joining in, we think we are a little bit closer to our aim. Can’t wait!” For the latest information check out www. tramlines.org.uk
