Copley’s Column

I love to use this column as a vehicle to promote and give publicity to worthwhile charity events. A couple of my pals, Chris Clarke and Mark Finnigan organise a charity day annually to raise money for Sheffield hospitals charity in aid of cystic fibrosis. The event held this year on July 27th in the car park of the Miner’s Arms, Carr Lane, Dronfield Woodhouse starts at one o’clock in the afternoon until approximately eight in the evening, after which there is a disco in the pub. Much happens on the day with live music from local bands, The Score, Junkyard Dog, and the Chase, plus solo performances from John Alex, who is the finest Elton John tribute for miles, Dan Aspinall and Steve Birks, aka Vincent and Neirly Diamond who will travel down from Selby. As well as the music, Andrew Doman will be exhibiting his fabulous birds of prey, well worth seeing, an inflatable pillow bash, a bouncy castle and face painting for the children, a car wash in the pub car park and a barbecue. This is sure to be a great day out, and one to put in your diary. Chris and Mark are hoping to improve on last year’s incredible total of forty pounds short of three thousand pounds. It is with some regret that I will not be able to attend as our family holiday on Majorca commences on that date, and we will also miss another great charity event, Birkfest n the 7th July, held in the grounds of Westfield House, Middle Handley, the home of Tony and Cath Birks to raise money for Fairplay. I shall of course be reporting details of this fantastic fundraiser closer to the day. It is always sad to read of someone taking their own life, but I find it appalling that this should be used for political gain. Stephanie Bottrill lived alone in a three bedroomed council house. She moved in when she had her son and daughter at home and this was appropriate at the time. However, when they moved out, she had two bedrooms which were not used. Surely it makes sense that her requirements were different after they had gone and a one bedroomed flat, which the council had offered her, would be easier to maintain and cheaper to run. She had apparently done all her packing, in preparation for

the move, so to blame the government is not fair. She had been awarded two thousand pounds to facilitate the move. Her son is an HGV driver, a well-paid job, but he had apparently not offered to help her out should she decide to stay. Twenty pounds per week is not a fortune these days, little more than a round of drinks, so perhaps there is more to this story than we know. Whatever the circumstances, I genuinely feel for the family and may she rest in peace. On a brighter note, Jackie Toaduff, life time Mercury award winner with showbiz partner Roy, reaches the grand old age of eighty this week, although I have to say he doesn’t look it, and I would like to take this opportunity to wish him a happy birthday. Jackie and Roy host our celebrity breakfast at their hotel, the Chantry in Dronfield, which is the highlight of my week. Roy’s next birthday will be his ninetieth, which evidences the merit of good clean living, not to mention the twenty plus years entertaining on the Q.E.2, where they enjoyed all the benefits afforded to first class passengers. I am proud to be close friends with both of them.

TRIO UNITE FOR ROCK SUPERSHOW

Journey, Whitesnake and Thunder are set to appear onstage together for the first time ever in May 2013, taking in eight dates across the UK. The tour will stop off at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield on Monday 20th May. Tickets priced £45 (booking fee may apply) are on sale now. Journey, one of the most popular American rock bands of all time, are responsible for creating some of the best-known songs in modern music. Over the years they have gained multiple accolades – including 19 Top 40 singles, 25 Gold and Platinum albums and single ‘Don’t Stop Believin’’ holding the #1 digital catalogue song in history. Recently they drew nearly a million fans to their 2011 Eclipse World Tour which ranked in the Top 15 Tours of the year and were awarded the prestigious “Legend Of Live Award” at the 2011 Billboard Touring Awards. Journey will be joining the tour with their current line-up of Neal Schon (guitars, backing vocals), Jonathan Cain (keyboards, backing vocals), Ross Valory (bass, backing vocals), Deen Castronovo (drums, percussion, backing vocals) and Arnel Pineda (lead vocals). Journey said of the tour: “Looking forward to getting back to the UK and playing our best for you all. You guys are the very best, cheers and see you soon. We will be rocking!” Co-headlining the 2013 tour are the legendary Whitesnake who carry a rightful & righteous reputation as one of the world’s leading rock’n’roll bands. Founded and formed by Deep Purple singer David Coverdale, the band have earned multi-platinum albums and multiple top 10 hits worldwide, including two number one singles with ‘Here I Go Again’ and ‘Is This Love’ as well as the unforgettable hammer of ‘Still Of The Night’. Bombast, bravado, talent and passion have helped establish Whitesnake as the perennial platinum favourite they have become and they’re back with a vengeance in 2013, with plans to release a live DVD ahead of the tour as well as a double album. “Unfinished business...” as Coverdale says slyly. “We all wanted the last tour to continue as we got closer to the end...After a year in the studio we’re ready to rock on stage again...We’re coming back for more...” Harnessing Coverdale’s blues and soul roots & fuelled by incendiary guitarists Doug Aldrich & Reb Beach you have all the elements needed to shape the ‘Snake’s hard rock identity. Special guests Thunder will also be joining the UK dates. In 2009 the band went their separate ways, only to return in 2011 for a triumphant live performance at the High Voltage festival in London, followed by 2 sell out Christmas shows. Thunder returned for another two sell-out Christmas shows in 2012, with the date first selling out in just 6 hours. The band has been lured back on to the stage for next year’s tour with Journey and Whitesnake. Perhaps this could re-ignite their desire for more. Singer Danny Bowes says: “We’d already discussed possibly doing some shows next year, so this is perfect, and it’s a great bill, like they used to be back in the day. Let’s face it, we could all do with a bit of cheering up at the moment, so hopefully the people who come will get a brilliant night out and go home happy. I’m sure we will”. Tickets are on sale now priced at £45 (subject to booking fee) and are available in person at the Arena Box Office, by phone on 0114 256 5656 or online at www.motorpointarenasheffield.co.uk

Weekly Wit With... ALBERT SNODGRASS

My mate took his Grandad to one of those fancy Health Spas, where tiny little fish eat all the dead skin. It cost him £35, but it was a lot cheaper than a funeral. --------------------------------------------------------I was playing a trumpet outside Asda earlier when an elderly lady approached me and said, “That’s excellent, especially with no sheet music. Do you always play by ear?” “No,” I said, “I’ll be outside Tesco tomorrow.” --------------------------------------------------------I was going to do a joke about Britain’s biggest hoarders that’s on BBC1. DESIGN THE OFFICIAL TRAMLINES FESTIVAL 2013 SHIRT

APPLIANCES & REPAIRS

or perhaps a project will take a disastrous turn. There will be acts of treacherous behaviour from people. Weekly Psychic Article by Psychic Glynis

Tarot Cards (Cards that you don’t want to see in a reading!) Tarot cards are often referred to as ‘The Devil’s Picture Book,’ and consequently can cause people concern. A Tarot card simply shows an illustration that can be used to predict future events and is nothing to be afraid of. There are, however, some cards that it would be preferable not to see in your reading. Tarot cards can vary in meaning depending on which order they appear. Readings can be very informative if you are looking for answers, or even if you just want to see how it all works. The Tower This card depicts people falling out of a tower during thunder, lightning and choppy water. The card initially indicates that there will be a disruption within your life. You may lose something or you may face bad news which affects you personally. The choppy water represents feelings and suggests that your emotions will be all over the place at this time. The Devil This card depicts two people chained to the wall. It tells me that you are chained to current habits, opinions and behaviour and this opens you up to the possibility of deceit and treachery. You will feel a sense of frustration as someone makes mischief and you feel powerless to break free. Ensure you have all the facts and trust noone until the problem is sorted out. Watch out for a dark haired person who is trying to make things difficult for you. It may result in a lover being stolen. If necessary take a health break to recuperate. Ten of Swords The most feared card in the pack as it represents unavoidable disaster and ruination. There will be an incident of some kind that will result in calamity. It may be that you lose some money

The Moon The Moon is a warning card and indicates deceit from other people. The Moon card also indicates depression and other health issues. The Three of Swords A large, red heart is pierced by three swords. Heavy rain is seen in the background (water represents emotion) and hard water means that emotions will be affected. This is a brutal card that illustrates pain and loss. It indicates the loss of someone or something, and a time of drama and conflict. Five of Pentacles Five of Pentacles hang on a barren tree and a blanket of snow is on the ground which symbolises isolation. This card brings financial worries, anxiety, stress and tells you that you must work through tough times. However, there is also a lone snowdrop which symbolises renewal and consolation in adversity. Help is available if you ask for it. The following symbols appear in a variety of Tarot cards: Birds mean higher thoughts and spiritual messages. They can be seen on: The Hanged Man, The Star, The World, Queen of Cups, Ten of Swords and Eight of Pentacles. Cats are associated with the fire element and symbolise perception, psychic powers, and mystery. They can be seen on: The High Priestess, Seven of Cups, Four of Wands, Page of Wands, Queen of Wands and Three of Pentacles. Moons represent psychic powers, feminine energy, mystery, magic and intuition. They can be seen on: The High priest, The Chariot, The Moon, Eight of Cups, Two of Swords and Nine of Swords. Tramlines, the UK’s biggest inner city music festival, has today called for budding designers to create its official festival t-shirt. Designers have been asked to submit a unique design that incorporates the legendary Tramlines ‘T’ logo or include the word Tramlines in a large part of the design. The successful winner will have their design printed on over 1,000 festival t-shirts and will receive t-shirt and hoodie samples of their creation, plus two weekend passes to the festival taking place on 19-21 July across 60 venues in Sheffield including 3 outdoor stages. All entries must be submitted by Monday 10th June to amy.bedford@tramlines.org.uk and the winner will be decided by the Tramlines Festival panel and announced on Monday 17th June. Design guidelines are that it must incorporate the legendary Tramlines T (which can be downloaded via http://2013.tramlines.org.uk/design-the-officialtramlines-2013-t-shirt/), or include the word Tramlines in a large part of the design. The more creative the better. Designers have been asked to think about what the festival means to them. There are no restrictions to using the Tramlines T. Entrants can use several, flip them around, colour them in or draw around them. If entrants don’t want to use the Tramlines T, the design must still look like a Tramlines festival t-shirt, with the word Tramlines visible somewhere in the design.

DATES FOR YOUR SHEFFIELD 50+ HAVE YOUR SAY MASTERPLAN LAUNCHES MAJOR ON THE NHS FOR SHEFFIELDʼS DIARY eldccg.nhs.uk/getSheffield 50+ Focus Group NEW REPORT ON http://www.sheffi FUTURE involved/have-your-say_2.htm Tuesday, 21 May from 1-3pm in a Committee Room in Sheffield Town people can have their say on OLDER PEOPLE IN Compliments, Concerns, Comments Local Hall. The subject we will be discussing future of Sheffi eld City Centre. and Complaints is Sheffield City Council’s Joint Health Two consultation sessions are due to SHEFFIELD You are the eyes and ears of the NHS in and Wellbeing Strategy Consultation. All take place later this month on the City Sheffield and when they do something Sheffield 50+ is an organisation with almost 2,500 members. Our membership is a broad cross section of Sheffield life past, present and future and has a mass of skills and experiences. In early 2012 Sheffield 50+ put a bid together to seek funding to carry out a comprehensive survey of our members to gather their profiles, opinions and concerns about life as an older person living in Sheffield. The Co-operative recognised the value of what we wanted to achieve and awarded us funding to complete the work. The report being launched on May 16th at the Showroom Cinema is the culmination of that survey work and will help direct our priorities in the next few years. This is the largest and most wide reaching survey taken by Sheffield 50+ and possibly ever carried out in Sheffield. Sheffield is the 4th largest city in England and we, as a trusted local independent charity have got the most accurate and informative responses possible. This work is important for us as we are applying for funding in a very difficult economic climate and with an ageing population. Our membership is growing and changing. People live longer and enjoy better health than in the past. No longer is old age synonymous with dependence on others or a diminished quality of life however there can be a negative image of ageing as a period of unavoidable and burdensome decline. Respect for life in all its phases is a key to our work and to go forward we need to have this full picture of the people we represent. Tony Maltby (Chair of Sheffield 50+) says: “This is a major piece of work that provides a unique insight into the lives of our membership. It is both rigorous and scientific in its approach and is statistically reliable. We urge all those agencies statutory or otherwise to read and act upon its findings. We will be basing our campaigning work on what we have found and use it to provide empirical evidence when demanded. We wish to thank Maxine Kuczawski from ScHARR at The University of Sheffield for her assistance with the analysis’” Helen Jackson CBE (Sheffield 50+) says: “The survey shows how aware the over 50’s are of the harsh financial climate they find themselves in. Yet they still appreciate the services offered and their own neighbourhoods even though they don’t recognise the huge part they play in making Sheffield the city we love. Sheffield 50+aims to give these concerns a louder voice”

They have formal procedures for reporting concerns and complaints with their partner organisations such as Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, GP surgeries and dental practices. They will be open and honest when they know mistakes have happened, so every effort can be made to learn from them and ensure that the same situation does not occur again. Click here to find out more about how to share your experience with them. Their aim is to commission first-rate health care in Sheffield and they want to hear when things go really well. Centre Masterplan. The sessions kick off a six week consultation period. The Masterplan outlines how the Council will take the regeneration of Sheffield city centre forward. Public consultation events are taking place at Sheffield’s Winter Garden on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 May where officers will be on hand to explain the plan and answer questions. The plan will also be available online at www.sheffield.gov.uk until the end of June. The new plan, drawn up by the Council, sets out the authority’s vision for the city centre - with a focus on retail, economy and sustainability. Councillor Julie Dore, Leader of Sheffield City Council said: “The Masterplan will shape the city’s regeneration for the next decade and beyond. It builds on three previous City Centre Masterplans and supports our long-term aims to attract high performing, high value companies to Sheffield. “The city already has high quality office space and stunning public realm which combines to attract companies to the city, and allow local business to thrive, but we want to go further. We want Sheffield to be the first choice place for growth sector firms to do business with three news thriving business districts. “We know that retail is a key part of the city centre offer and the Masterplan outlines a high quality shopping centre offering top fashion names as well as independents and new start-ups.” The City Centre Masterplan highlights the contribution that the city centre can make to reducing Sheffield’s carbon footprint and puts forward proposals on transport, city living, culture and university campuses. Councillor Leigh Bramall, Cabinet Member for Business Skills and Development at Sheffield City Council said: “The Masterplan reaffirms the development that we want to see taking place in Sheffield whilst taking into account the changing economic climate since the last Masterplan. This isn’t about pie in the sky ideas but about realistic, achievable but still aspirational developments for the city centre. Bringing with them jobs and growth for Sheffield people.” There has already been extensive consultation with some twenty key stakeholder groups including city centre retailers, businesses and residents. As a result the Council already has a lot of buy in for the Masterplan. Now they want to hear from people across the city to see what they think of the latest ideas. The public consultation in the Winter Garden is a chance for Sheffield people to have their say on the shape of Sheffield City Centre. Anyone who is unable to visit the Winter Garden can take part in the consultation online at www.sheffield. gov.uk Once agreed the Masterplan would be used as a framework for guiding ongoing city centre regeneration, private sector investment, bidding for public funding and as a material consideration in determining planning applications.

HEALTH AND WELFARE LASTING POWER OF ATTORNEY When we have our health we don’t like to think about what may happen in the future, but illness or accidents can intervene without warning. Advances in science mean we are living longer but this sadly this increases our chances of ending our days without our mental faculties. Many people understand you can appoint attorneys to help with your finances and property with a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) and an existing Enduring Power of Attorney will also do this. However more people are now also making an LPA which deals with health and personal welfare. Health and Welfare attorneys can make decisions on your behalf about where you live and who you live with; your daily care; who you have contact with; consenting to or refusing medical treatment;

you can even specify that your attorneys make end of life decisions for you if you wish. So what happens if you don’t have an LPA in place? In practice these important decisions are left to professionals - doctors, social workers or care staff. They should should consult with you and your carers and family members. However consultation does not necessarily mean that they have to follow the family’s wishes, and professionals are busy people who will not know you as well as those close to you. Doing a Health and Welfare LPA means you decide who makes these decisions for you if you can’t make them. Of course you have to completely trust your attorneys will make the right decisions for you, but if you are fortunate with your relatives and carers the Health and Welfare LPA is most probably the right thing to do. dog will begin to think that greeting you is a ‘bad’ thing to do.

PDSA’s 10 top tips for dog training: 1. Know what makes your dog tick! Make sure that the reward you are offering is something that your dog really likes. It’s one way of ensuring this good behavior will be repeated.. 2. Timing is everything The dog must associate the reward with ‘good’ behavior. . Dogs learn these associations if the two events are about half a second or less apart. If the gap between behavior and reward is longer than 2 minutes it’s unlikely the dog will connect the two. within 3. Keep it short Ensure that the training session is not too long as it may lead to your dog losing interest or getting frustrated. It’s better to do repeated short sessions rather than one long session, provided your dog still thinks it’s fun.

9. Get everyone on board Everyone who has contact with your dog should praise your dog’s ‘correct’ behaviour, use the same commands and ignore mistakes. 10. A note on food treats Try using healthy food as a reward, such as very small pieces of fruit and vegetables, or sausages and cooked meats if your dog really doesn’t like them. Remember to reduce the amount of food given in the main meal so your dog doesn’t get too many calories on training days! Elaine continues “if you’d like to go to local training classes, contact the Association of Pet Dog Trainers*,as they can help you find a trainer near you. .”

6. Keep going When you’re teaching a new command it may take lots of repetition; with patience, your dog will eventually understand what you want.

7. Ignore mistakes Every dog will make mistakes. It’s not their fault, it just means they haven’t learnt the task yet. Ignore the mistake and then give the reward next time they get it right. 8. Never use punishment Punishment includes shouting at your dog or, even worse, hitting or smacking them. By using these techniques, your dog may experience anxiety and fear which will slow down the learning process as well as not associating the punishment with the actual event. For example, if you punish your dog when you come home because your dog has chewed at the sofa, because of the time delay your

LEE EVANS RETURNS TO SHEFFIELD WIRED AND WONDERFUL was huge… XL was big… BIG was even bigger… ROADRUNNER was record breaking… and now the legendary Lee Evans embarks on his most ambitious tour to date with… MONSTERS. Lee is set to return to the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield in 2014 with his brand new tour, which will stop off in Sheffield for two shows on Friday 12th & Saturday 13th September 2014. Tickets priced £30 (booking fee may apply) go on general sale at 9am on Monday 20th May. Having previously played 10 sell-out shows in front of over 100,000 fans here in Sheffield, tickets for the 2014 MONSTERS tour are sure to be in high demand. The Arena's General Manager Rob O'Shea is thrilled to confirm the return of Lee Evans saying "The Monsters tour will be the fourth time Lee has performed this venue with all previous dates selling out. With only 2 confirmed Sheffield shows for the 2014 tour I am expecting these Lee Evans shows to sell-out in record time. In fact, 2014 is already looking like one of our strongest year's for comedy at the Arena as we are already on sale with Russell Howard, Jack Whitehall performing first ever In The Round Arena Tour and Miranda Hart, the first ever female comedian to play here." Lee’s manic energy, uncanny observations, hilarious delivery and side-splitting material have made his live performances a must-see for comedy fans worldwide. His tours and DVD releases year-onyear continue to smash sales and box office records. From 2002 to 2011 alone he has performed to over 1,605,000 people through his four live arena shows (‘Wired & Wonderful’ - 2002, ‘XL’ - 2005, ‘Big’ 2008, ‘Roadrunner’ 2011). In 2011 Lee embarked on a 67 arena date tour, which included a staggering six nights at both the O2 and Wembley Arenas, played to a sell-out 600,000 people across 16 arena stages throughout the UK and Ireland. First day sales saw an amazing 227,424 tickets sold and firmly established Roadrunner as the fastest and biggest day one selling UK comedy tour of all time. The release of Roadrunner in 2011 was groundbreaking as the first ever 3D stand-up comedy DVD. His previous DVD release in 2008 ‘Big – Live At the 02’ broke all previous stand-up DVD sales records when it sold a staggering 259,399 during its first week and became the biggest week one release for a non film DVD of all time – a record it still holds today! In September 2011 Lee’s autobiography The Life Of

Lee was released becoming a number one bestseller and making the top 30 bestselling books of 2011. Lee Evans has won many accolades in the comedy world including ‘Special Contribution To Comedy’ Award at The British Comedy Awards 2011, the highly coveted ‘Perrier Award’ and the Time Out Award for Comedy. He has experienced huge success as an international film star in The Martins (2001), There’s Something About Mary (1998), The Fifth Element (1997), Mouse Hunt (1998) and Funny Bones (1995). In addition to his film work, Lee has also appeared on BBC ONE in his own sitcom series Lee Evans- So What Now? and appeared in the 2009 Doctor Who Easter special (BBC ONE), where he played an evil Welsh scientist, again to much critical acclaim. During the past six years Lee has received rave reviews for his West-End theatre roles. These include; Samuel Beckett's Endgame alongside the legendary Michael Gambon, Mel Brooks’ musical The Producers with Nathan Lane plus the Harold Pinter play The Dumb Waiter, with Jason Isaacs, where he received the London Theatregoers’ Choice Award. In September of this year, Lee will return to treading the boards of the West End, starring alongside Sheila Hancock and Keeley Hawes in Clive Exton’s new play Barking In Essex at The Wyndham’s Theatre in London. Tickets for Lee’s Sheffield shows are priced £30 (booking fee may apply) and go on general sale at 9am on Monday 20th May in person at the Arena Box Office, by phone on 0114 256 5656 or online at www.motorpointarena.co.uk.

BEER DUTY ESCALATOR Chancellor right to scrap beer duty escalator as new statistics show 26 pubs a week closing pre-budget. CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, last week published the latest CGA CAMRA Pub Tracker statistics which show that 26 pubs a week are closing in the UK. The statistics show that the rate of pub closures rose during the last 6 months up to March this year compared to earlier in 2012, from 18 to 26 per week across the UK, meaning that the cut in beer duty and scrapping of the beer duty escalator in this year’s

budget could not have come at a more important time. Mike Benner, Chief Executive at CAMRA, said “We believe that the scrapping of the beer duty escalator and the extra 1p off beer duty announced in this year’s budget could mark a turning point for pubs. With a better deal on beer tax, the Government’s plans for pub company reform and the ‘List Your Local’ scheme, announced during CAMRA’s Community Pubs Month, we are hopeful that the fortunes of Britain’s pubs are set to change .”

A couple of Sundays ago I was in Sheffield Lane Top Club to see a band called “Caught Off Guard.” At first glance I thought they were a straight rock band, and although I’m a great fan they aren’t always everyone’s cup of tea – but surprisingly their set was great! A mix of good oldies, ballads and classic rock numbers that had people swaying in their seats and up on the dance floor right from

the off! With Ash on vocals, John on lead guitar, Lewis on bass and Kenny on drums, the lads have a full calendar over summer playing at all the Haven holiday camps. However they have quite a few dates locally over the next few months so keep an eye out and go and see them – well recommended! That’s all for now folks. Paul (Rocky Horrors)

A CLIP ROUND VOICE OF THE THE EAR NIGHTINGALE MAGIC AM by Trevor Thomas

RADIO NIGHTINGALE by Mel Jaques

We were treated to a fabulous evening of music this week at the Rotherham Schools’ Music Service Senior Summer Proms. The concert featured performances from the Rotherham Youth Orchestra, Rotherham Youth Big Band, String Quartet, Percussion Ensemble and Rotherham Schools’ Concert Band. Highlights of the concert are available from our website: www.radionightingale. org.uk and there’s loads of photos on our facebook page. The recording of this concert will be broadcast for the patients of the Rotherham General Hospital to enjoy as part of our special 35th Anniversary Broadcast over the 2nd & 3rd June. The 35 hour broadcast to mark our 35 years starts at 9.30am on Sunday 2nd June and is launched by the Rumpole of Rotherham, Steve Smith. There’s a variety of guests and special programmes over the 35 hours. The exact schedule is still being finalised and will be published on our website. We invite you to take part in the broadcast and show your support of Radio Nightingale by sponsoring your favourite song. We will of course have all the Visit our website to find out how news, information and traffic and travel with me, and just great songs you can be involved. to kick start the day. Plus, if you haven’t heard already I am now Radio Nightingale broadcasts here Saturday mornings as well 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from 6-10am. for the patients and staff of the Rotherham General Hospital on See you in the morning for more 945 &1350mw and Hospedia. For Magic, more information about the station visit www.radionightingale.org.uk Trevor If you haven’t done so already, I can strongly advise picking up a digital radio. They’re easy to tune in. You can instantly flick from station to station with no tuning in required. Yours may even include a clock, scrolling text, an alarm, and the ability to pause, rewind or even listen again, as with digital TV. The best feature by far though has to be the superior sound. You will hear Magic in crystal clear stereo on a digital radio, so this week we’ve started giving you another chance to win one absolutely free!!! Just tune in to The Glenn Pinder Breakfast Show from 7.20am and listen to our “Clip around the ear”. If you can call in and tell us correctly what it’s the sound of, that swanky new radio is yours, but if you can’t don’t worry because the game will return every weekday morning at the same time until it’s won. You never know, we might just start throwing in some clues to help you as well the longer it rolls on. Wrap your ears around your radio, tune in first thing and you could be a Magic AM winner.

CLUB HISTORIANS 5TH ANNIVERSARY CLUBHISTORIANS.CO.UK by Ruth Cherrington

It’s hard to believe that another anniversary has come round for the Club Historians website! But I’m always keen to celebrate another successful year for the site, which had such humble and tentative beginnings. Coming up to being five years young, the number of ‘hits’ nears 150, 000- an amazing tally for an amateur site. We’ve received growing recognition, praise and increasing numbers of visitors from across the globe. Many ex-pats look up their old clubs and students keen to find out more about the club movement drop in. I wanted to set up such a website as a repository for some of the many memories and experiences of club life from members themselves, before they were lost for good. When older members pass away, they take memories with them and very little has been recorded about clubs. But I also wanted to stimulate interest in the present, not just the past, to help keep clubs going for future generations. I was very fortunate to link up with webmaster Geoff who made my dream a reality. Club Historians sets out not only to document the history of clubs across the country and their members, but also to campaign on their behalf. It seeks to highlight the valuable community roles played they play to gain a wider audience. We encourage people to send in their experiences, memories and views. From the emails we receive, I am able to write up the stories and experiences they want to share, keeping their voices far as possible, but making the story accessible to the site’s audience. Pictures or images are worked into the piece. Most are thrilled to see their ‘ordinary’ story online. What has happened in these 5 years since the site was set up? Sadly hundreds have closed down right across the country. Many more are struggling. I would like to think some committees have found some good ideas to help keep their club going or to find ways to seek support through our website. What else has happened? Not Just Beer and Bingo was published and more people are getting in touch with their stories or requests for help. I’m convinced the site will continue for some time to come and hope we can help more clubs to have a future, not just a past. I would like to celebrate our website’s birthday and all clubs everywhere.

PARKLIFE FESTIVAL MANCHESTER 08-09/06/13

PREVIEW

Words by KT Evans

What do you love most about summer? BBQ’s? Sunshine? Spending as much time as possible outdoors? For us, this question is a simple three syllable answer…festivals. Whether you’re an avid attendee or preparing to sample your very first outdoor experience, festivals are all about discovering bands, acts and musicians to broaden your musical tastes and at last result in updating your ipod! Parklife from 8-9th June at Manchester’s Heaton Park is exactly this… And what a line-up they’ve got in store for you this year…headlining the main stage on Saturday 8th June is no other than Plan B. Constantly reinventing himself since his formation in 2006, Plan B has gone onto become one of the most versatile voices within British music. He will be joined by The Maccabees, Jessie Ware along with M-Live favourites Delphic. Having recently released their hugely anticipated second studio album ‘Collections,’ Delphic really are all about the music. An intricate mix of electro / techno beats verses striking vocals, we strongly recommend you check these guys out. Saturday will also see Disclosure Live along with AlunaGeorge on the Sounds Of The Near Future Stage, whilst Subfocus is set for the 10 Years Of Metropolis Stage. Sunday 9th June looks to be just as much a cracker as its counterpart, with rap sensation Example headlining the main stage. Kicking off his career in dance and grime genres, Example has gone onto diversify into dance, electro and dubstep, something the London born star does with great success. Also on the main stage bill includes Rita Ora, Rudimental and Wretch 32 who produced the one song we have failed to get out of our heads for the last 12 months…’Tractors.’ The second stage – Now Wave is to platform the mighty Everything Everything alongside Noel Fielding favourite’s The Horrors. With psychedelic guitar riffs and introverted melodies, The Horrors are masters of their craft and never fail to put on a cracking live show. Sheffield’s Toddla T is also set for the bill along with David Rodigan who is performing the main stage at Sheffield’s Tramlines Event later this year. Tickets for Parklife Weekender from 8th – 9th June 2013 are still available at www,parklife.co.uk priced from £45.00 for a single day ticket to £69.50 for a standard weekend ticket. Check out the website for the full line-up along with more info on one of the hottest festivals this summer.

SLEEPING WITH SIRENS RESCUE ROOMS - NOTTS 20/05/13

PREVIEW Words by KT Evans

Swooping into the UK from their native Floridian homeland, Sleeping With Sirens are polar opposites to your stereotypical hard hitting, brutal rock band which may pop up within a cities hardcore venue. Ok ok so they may be signed to one of the most fiercely renounced record labels within rocks genre; Rise Records, although each of the groups studio albums veers more towards melodic vocal techniques and intricate instrumental sections as oppose to punching your slap bang square in the face… never really that pleasant. It’s quite remarkable to track the progress Sleeping With Sirens have made since their formation onto the scene back in 2009. Stemming for the enviable shores of Orlando, the band have fast become front runners within all that is melodic hardcore. Building up enough momentum to increase their fan base throughout the world, the five piece have gone on to tour the world with their versatile set which sure as hell needs no introduction. Now with two studio albums out in the mix with a third in working progress for release later this year, the band’s latest release, ‘Lets Cheers To This’ in 2011 scored them their most successful chart position, peaking at number 55 in the US Hard Rock Chart. Having taken on the role of travelling gypsies to partake in the phenomena that was US Vans Warped Tour 2012, Sleeping With Sirens are also set for this year’s Slam Dunk event at Leeds University… in other words you can have a double dose of Kellin Quinn and co. all in one week (queue screaming girls galore.) Supporting the hardcore heroes at Nottingham’s Rescue Rooms is to no other that passionate progressives The Word Alive. Easily the most versatile and passionate bands to watch whilst on stage, the four piece are all about delivering on a collosal scale within each and every set they showcase. Set to release a brand new video for the title track off their second studio album ‘Life Cycles,’ its more than evident to see how ready The Word Alive are for their very own headline UK tour. However throwing Sleeping With Sirens in within the boiling pot of first rate line-ups and we’re pretty damn sure this will be a show you won’t be forgetting for quite some time. Check out www.rescuerooms.com for ticket info, admission and times for Sleeping With Sirens on 20/05/13 at Nottingham Rescue Rooms.

round-up by stuart renton

I think it’s heart-warming that plastic popstrel, Peter Andre, has released his own fragrance. It’s called Spunque: the scent of a man - and it really does seem as though he’s put a little splash of himself into every bottle. Even the advertising slogan is genius: Splash Peter’s Andre’s Spunque all over your neck to feel a million dollars. At £9.99 a bottle, it’s cheaper than giving your girlfriend a pearl necklace for her birthday. And talking of cheap and tacky, it’s the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday and that’s one old nag that really needs putting out of its misery... and I’m not talking about UK entrant, Bonnie Tyler, who merely looks as though she’s been put to sleep half the time. They may have used the excess skin removed from her body during emergency hipposuction… I mean liposuction, to make Jessie J, but no amount of plastic surgery is going to help the UK win this (or any other) year. If there was ever a show that revealed exactly how the rest of the world felt about the UK, then the Eurovision Song Contest is the pendulous swinging balls of public opinion. Great Britain is hated across the entirety of Europe and loathed by much of the rest of the world as well – and the only way the UK could improve its chances of winning is by holding its own version of the contest where the UK is the ONLY entrant. That said, they’d probably ask crap boy band Blue back to the show and we’d STILL get nil points! Doctor Who sees its final episode this Saturday and the last few years seem like a date with someone you don’t really fancy but you’re hoping they’ll put out just so you get some kind of payback for the interminable three hours you spent together. And just as you think that third glass of red wine is going to kick in, they call a taxi and leave you frustrated and wondering if it was all worth it. Well, it wasn’t and I have to express my feelings of utter disappointment for the last few years of Doctor Who in words that won’t be deleted by my editor. So I’ll settle on “utterly dire”, which simply doesn’t do my emotions justice. The problems originate from the showrunner, Steven Moffat, who I’m sure is a lovely bloke, but his idea of a story arc is having the Doctor stare into the camera and asking “who is she?” to remind us that there might be something remotely interesting happening on a weekly basis with Clara (who has more personality changes than Katona being told she’s out of that special ‘baby talc’ on the set of the Cash Lady

commercials). Moffat apparently learned his craft from the Hardcore Porn School of Filmmaking where you repeatedly ram your idea in your face as hard and as fast as possible until you reach the money shot in the final episode (also called the exciting climax). But, sadly, Doctor Who has most certainly shot its creative load early and has promptly fallen asleep without so much as a kiss goodnight (or even brushing its teeth - the dirty sod). I can only imagine that Saturday night’s episode might answer a few questions about the Doctor’s name (I’m guessing Bernard), but the ones on my lips will be: was that it?! And, oh, really? That’s what this was all about? Seriously? / sigh. And speaking of creative bankruptcy, did the Big Brother production team hire this year’s selection of women on the Apprentice as they all look like they’ve come fresh from the TOWIE vajazzling salon. There’s apparently a surplus of fake tan and hairpieces out there as the vapid windbags have taken over and instead of previous year’s being filled with useless, dim-witted businesswomen wannabes with all the common sense of road kill, they’ve now got useless dim witted tarts masquerading as business women (it’s a subtle change, the only real difference is that the skirts are little more than a strip of Velcro… At least I think that’s Velcro…). These gals haven’t been chosen for their business acumen but whether they’ve got lips that could give a Dyson a run for its money. It’s yet another sign of the BBC dumbing down shows to court popular opinion. With that lot on the other side of the table I bet Lord Sugar can think of a few things he’d like to do with the team but none of them have anything to do with best business practises. The girls might be taking something down if they get the job, but it won’t be a memo… More smut next week!

angler’s corner

by Clint Walker

No moans or rants from me this week, I’ve had a good week for a change! I’ve been at Coole Acres Fishery near Nantwich, Cheshire in pursuit of some stunning common carp which go to around 28lbs; it’s a fairly tough venue where I’ve already blanked twice, so it was time to do something about it! On previous occasions, I’ve stuck rigidly to the ‘going’ tactic of bottom baits tight to the central island features, and aside from a few tentative bleeps, I’ve done nothing. A change of plan, after a break from the venue and I was ready to go! In fairness, the weather forecast was for continued bright sunshine and warm breeze all day, so if I didn’t catch, at least I wasn’t going to get wet.... The water at Coole Acres can be cloudy due to a clay lake bed which gets stirred by the slightest breath of wind, so conventional zig rigs can be difficult to use as the fish can’t see them; make them smelly though, and you are in with a chance! I’d got some Marukyu Credence Marine Liquid with me, a prototype which I got hold of a couple of weeks ago (it’s on sale soon) which absolutely stinks; it’s a little bit ‘monster crab’ a hint of krill, a smidgeon of salt and a host of other ingredients which will catch fish. It’s super sticky too, so will adhere to almost any bait you can think of, so I soaked a small piece of black rig foam in it for an hour or two to see if it made a difference. As most anglers fish very close to any features, and I was on the lake after a busy weekend, I dropped a little shorter into slightly deeper water and put nothing in around my zig rig which was set to half depth, around three feet off the bottom to see if I could pick up a fish which were impossible to see in tea coloured water. I’ve got a lack of confidence in zig rigs for some reason, something I’ve documented before, but the only way to learn is to keep trying, so it was duly launched out, tightened up, and I sat back to wait. Anglers can use three rods here, so I did set up a small chod to combat the low lying silkweed, and another on a solid pva bag just in case. No fish had been seen by three in the afternoon, and I was getting a bit too warm so was considering packing in and subscribing to yet another blank when the foam baited zig rod roared off! Stupidly staring at it for a few seconds, I decided that picking the rod up might be a good idea and as I did, I connected with a fish....superb! A short fight and a chunky mid double lay in the net....a monkey off my back and a first fish on the new Marukyu Marine liquid! Despite not being one of the bigger residents, it proved that the sticky liquid worked and my rig was correctly constructed....can’t get much more satisfying than that! racing form by Timelord

Again there’s a lot of Channel 4 coverage this week so, with many races to go at, my comments are restricted to a minimum. Also please keep an eye out for the multiple entries and consequent non runners. The racing is pretty high class with important Derby and Oaks trials at York and some good quality supporting events. Midweek racing (selections only): Wednesday: York: 1.45 Prompter 2.15 Mass Rally 2.45 Indigo Lady 3.15 Mince Thursday: York; 1.45 Jamaican Bolt 2.15 Starscope 2.45 Trading Leather 3.15 Sound Hearts Salisbury: 2.00 Polly’s Love Friday: York: 1.45 Beldale Memory 2.15 Mijhaar 2.45 Joshua Tree 3.15 Beautiful View Newbury: 2.00 The Lark Saturday: Newbury: 2.05 JLT Aston Park Stakes,Listed, 4yo+, 1m5f 61yds: My order of preference is: Viking Storm; Joshua Tree; Gallipot; Quiz Mistress; Willing Foe; and Saint Hilary. 2.40 Betfred Mobile Lotto Handicap, 4yo+, 0-100, 6f 8yds: The shortlist for this one (again in order of preference) is: Joe Packet; Mass Rally; Tariq Too; Signor Sassi; Cheworee; Pearl Blue; and Hallelujah 3.15 Betfred Mobile Sports London Gold Cup (Handicap), 3yo, 0-105, 1m 2f 6yds: This is a bit of an enigma with three year olds going into handicaps quite unexposed. It remains to be seen how they have developed and progressed (or regressed!) over the winter period. Top weight Kitten on the Run comes over from Italy unbeaten in four outings and won a Listed race there last time. It is difficult to get a handle on how good this one is so I have had to leave it out of my calculations. Based on their last time out performances therefore the shortlist comprises: Tarikhi; Pether’s Moon; Holy Warrior; Salutation; High Troja; and Hillstar, although Red Runaway and Ray Ward could also enter the fray prominently.

Saturday Selection Summary (for reserves see above): Newbury: 2.05 Viking Storm 2.40 Joe Packet 3.15 Tarikhi 3.50 Cityscape Newmarket: 2.20 Maputo 2.55 Burning Blaze 3.30 Baltic Knight Good Luck! Last week’s results: The thirteen eventual runners from last week’s selections produced an eleven point return to one point level stakes for a 2 point loss on the week. Nevertheless some ran well only to be outpointed at the death otherwise it might have been a healthier return. Wednesday: Chester: 1.45 Quatuor – won @ 9/2 2.15 The Lark – non runner 2.45 Tominator – 3rd @ 11/1 3.15 Gatepost – 9th @ 3/1 Thursday: Chester: 1.45 Mijhaar – non runner 2.15 Gabrial – 3rd @ 7/2 2.45 Mister Impatience – 2nd @ 11/1 3.15 Flashlight – 3rd @ 13/2 Goodwood: 2.30 Starwatch – 7th @ 33/1 Friday: Chester: 1.45 Haaf A Sixpence – non runner 2.15 Havana Gold – non runner 2.45 Testosterone – non runner 3.15 Dutch Masterpiece – non runner Saturday: Ascot: 2.05 Noble Alan – 2nd @ 14/1 2.40 Viking Storm – non runner 3.15 Westwiththenight – 2nd @ 11/8 3.50 Sound Hearts – non runner Haydock: 1.50 Pateese – 18th @ 16/1 3.30 Street Entertainer – 8th @ 10/1 4.05 Eton Forever – won @ 9/2 Lingfield: 2.20 Northern Star – 7th @ 16/1.

GOLF TOURS

3.50 JLT Locking Stakes, Group 1, 4yo+, 1m: This looks fairly open to me. In a close contest Cityscape may be able to prevail. The order of preference is: Cityscape; Amaron; Reply; Penitent; Beauty Parlour; Fencing; Sovereign Debt; and Farrh. Newmarket: 2.20 Coral.co.uk Fairwood Stakes, Listed, 3yo, 1m2f: This looks to be another close contest. Maputo just shades it for me ahead of Holy Warrior, Tha’Ir and Hillstar with Tamarkuz’s all weather exploits marking him worthy of attention also. Greatwood and Jammy Guest could be the best of the others.

Football Round Up FAMILY OBI SIGNS UP ROVERS EXCELLENCE AWARD SWFC NEWS www.swfc.co.uk

Sheffield Wednesday youngster Ayo Obileye has signed his first professional contract with the club. The versatile defender has put pen to paper on a one-year deal having successfully graduated from the Owls’ academy. Obileye said: “Today is a special day for myself and my family, I am delighted to sign my professional contract with Sheffield Wednesday. “I am very grateful for the opportunity given to me by the club. I arrived in Sheffield from London in 2011 and had to adapt quickly to a different day to day regime, with contrasting footballing styles. “But I am convinced I am a better player now, as I am now able to operate in midfield as well as central defence. “I am looking forward to continuing my development next season and hopefully featuring in the first team squad again more regularly."

PREPARING FOR MORE HARD WORK

RUFC NEWS www.themillers.co.uk Doncaster Rovers are one of only eight clubs to receive the Football League Family Excellence Award for six years in succession. Rovers received the Award in recognition of the outstanding experience that the club provides to young supporters and families visiting Keepmoat Stadium. Rovers were assessed for the use of the of the DCLT family area in the Bartercard Stand, pricing structures and initiatives for families in the designated area as well as the matchday activities and entertainment available to young supporters. Also taken into consideration is the information that is available to first time fans before visiting Keepmoat Stadium and the matchday experience that they can enjoy. On receiving the award Head of Marketing Shaun Lockwood said: ”We are delighted to have received the Family Excellence Award for the sixth consecutive season. “We as a club feel that it is very important to ensure every supporter that visits the stadium has an enjoyable and safe experience. “We are constantly looking at new ways to improve the matchday experience available to supporters and will continue to do so further improving the service they receive. This is yet another example of how the club continues to use the principles of In Rovers We Trust to engage with our supporters. Clubs receiving the Award for the sixth consecutive year: Cardiff City, Doncaster Rovers, Huddersfield Town, Ipswich Town, MK Dons, Shrewsbury Town, Tranmere Rovers, Yeovil Town. He adds: “It will be a tough league with the likes of Wolves, Peterborough, Preston and Rotherham coming up, but we’ve got to concentrate on ourselves, hit the ground running and get some early points on the board. “It has been a disappointing two years but we need to get the fans believing again.”

United must ‘transition into something new’, says Chief Executive Julian Winter. Since returning to the post, Winter has stressed the importance of United being a sustainable business and insists the summer months will be crucial. He said: “This summer we have an opportunity to become more sustainable, we need to get our act together and create a platform by thinking differently. “We need to think outside of the comfort blanket of having a benefactor; we need to think positively about what we have on the field, particularly our young, home-grown players. “Recruiting the best young talent within our financial model is crucial moving forward, so the new manager will be a pivotal part to the jigsaw puzzle. We need to look at the situation of another season in League One; perhaps we need a change in culture and have a transition into something new.” Winter also revealed that the playing budget will be cut from the season that finished recently, but is adamant that won’t harm United’s hope of promotion back to the Championship at the third time of asking, although he conceded players could leave if offers are received from clubs higher up the football pyramid. Looking ahead, the Chief Executive added: “Naturally the playing budget will be less than last season. We have had the biggest budget and the second biggest budget in the last two seasons and not won promotion. “Is it all about money? At the top level it is. When I came here initially the key objectives were to become sustainable and get the Club promoted. My attitude is that is still possible, it isn’t about having the biggest budget. “I can’t guarantee anything at all, every player will find his place and if there is serious interest in any of our players from a higher level, the Club will have to consider offers. “We want to create a squad that is competitive and has a real identity, so obviously we want to keep our young players, but you can’t guarantee anything.”

WEEEKEND ROUND-UP LOCAL FOOTBALL by Michael Clarke

SUFC NEWS www.sufc.co.uk

Michael Doyle is keen to return to training in an attempt to banish the disappointment of the play-offs. The skipper shares the pain of Unitedites following the the play-off semi-final defeat at Yeovil that sees the Blades consigned to League One for a third season. “We have come up short again and it is disappointing, we have to look at ourselves over the summer,” Doyle told BBC Radio Sheffield. “The play-off defeat sets the club and everyone back another year. “Personally, I’m gutted, I’ve been down for the last week. Sitting around thinking about it hasn’t helped, I still have that horrible feeling in my stomach, I want to get back in training as soon as possible. “Yes, we have to recharge the batteries, but I want to get back into training as soon as possible and prepare for another nine months of hard work.” Doyle is predicting a strong League One when the season kicks off on 3 August.

County Senior League The last couple of fixtures in the County Senior League took place this week. They were both involving Wombwell Main, who have had a fixture backlog due to their successful League Cup run. On Wednesday Wombwell were beaten comfortably at home by Kinsley Boys 4-1. Brad Mellor starred for Kinsley scoring twice, as they exacted some revenge for their 5-1 loss in the reverse fixture back in November. On Friday Wombwell were in action again; this time against high-flying Penistone Church. Sadly for Wombwell it was a similar outcome, with Mark Crossfield, Danny Joynes and Jack Moore all scored for Penistone to give them a 3-1 win. The win for Penistone allows them to climb above Handsworth and into third place. Meadowhall League S&HCFA Senior Cup Final Premier Division leaders Handsworth Turf Tavern played Athersley Recreation in the Senior Cup final at Brammall Lane on Wednesday night. Sadly, they lost the game 2-1. Premier Division Arundel followed-up last Sunday’s win over Hackenthorpe A, with two wins midweek. They beat Packhorse Inn 4-0 away from home on Tuesday night. They were 3-1 winners over in-form Royal Earl on Thursday night. These three wins push them into a comfortable mid-table position. Royal Earl bounced-back from Thursday defeat, by seeing-off Packhorse Inn 4-2 at Warminster Road on Sunday. It has been goals galore for Hackenthorpe A this week. They were 5-1 winners over Brunsmeer Abbey AJW on Tuesday night. They scored another four on Thursday night against Packhorse, but this time they were held to a 4-4 draw. Division One It was a significant night in the Division One title race on Tuesday night, with both the top two in action. Firstly, leaders Arbourthorne EA were 3-1

TWO FRIENDLIES SET FOR NEW YORK RUFC NEWS www.themillers.co.uk

Rotherham United can officially announce their first two pre-season friendlies ahead of the 2013/14 season, which will be against Huddersfield Town and Middlesbrough. The games will take place at New York Stadium on Saturday 20th July (3pm), and Tuesday 23rd July (7.30pm). The game on Saturday 20th will provide a return to New York Stadium for manager Mark Robins whose side preserved their Championship status on the final day of the season. Robins left the Millers to join Championship side Barnsley in 2009, and now finds himself in the hot seat with the Terriers following a spell at Coventry City; he was most recently at New York to feature in Paul Warne’s testimonial. The two sides last met in July 2011 when three goals in 10 second-half minutes ensured the visitors scored a 3-1 win over Andy Scott’s Millers side who had Chris Holroyd on the scoresheet. Meanwhile, the Millers host another Championship club just three days later as Tony Mowbray’s ‘Boro pay their first visit to the Millers’ home for a midweek game. The former UEFA Cup finalists will arrive in Rotherham for the first time since 1995 when Steve Vickers netted the only goal in a 1-0 League Cup win at Millmoor. Further details about ticket prices and other events in the Millers’ pre-season calendar will be announced via www.themillers.co.uk at a later date.

winners over Winn Gardens at the Meadowhall Soccer School. At the same time, second placed Rawson Spring were at home to mid-table Intake Ball Inn. They were unable to keep up the pressure on Arbourthorne slipping to a 3-1 defeat. It was similar situation on Thursday with the two teams in action again. This time Rawson Spring made no mistake, beating Jack-in-a-Box 3-0 thanks to goals from Alex Torr, James Middleton and Jake Hampshire. But Sadly for Rawson Spring, Arbourthorne were in a similar mood, as they beat Intake Ball Inn 3-0 at Warminster Road. A combination of Tuesday and Thursday’s results was enough to give Arbourthorne the Division One title. Rawson Spring then hosted Arbourthorne on Sunday. Frustratingly for Rawson Spring, they won this game comfortably 3-1, but it was too little too late for their title dreams. Elsewhere, at the bottom of the table, Woodhouse JFC were beaten 4-0 at home by HSBC. The win is HSBC’s third in four games and helps them finish the season third from the bottom of the table. U21 Division Sheffield FC U21’s claimed their first U21 League Cup win. They were 4-3 winners over Dronfield Town U21’s at Chesterfield FC’s Pro-Ax Stadium on Tuesday night. The game was 2-2 after ninety minutes, but Sheffield ran-out 4-3 winners after a dramatic extra-time period. Dronfield had little time to recover from their cup final loss, as they were in action on both Thursday and Sunday night. They were two points behind leaders Sheffield FC U21’s (who had already completed their fixture) with just these two fixtures to play. In the end Dronfield needed only one game to climb above Sheffield. John Pugh scored twice for them to help them to a 3-1 away win over Woodhouse JFC U21’s at Flockton Park. The win gave them the points they needed to clinch their second successive U21 Division title. Dronfield were also in action on Sunday, where they finished-off their season in style with a 10-1 win over Crosspool Juniors U21’s. Hackenthorpe Warriors U21’s claimed back-to-back wins for the first time this season, when they Swinton Spartans U21’s 3-1 on Sunday. Greasborough U21’s made it six wins in seven league games, with a 5-2 away win over Hollinsend U21’s at Stradbroke Recreation Ground. They finish the season in fourth.
