RE-UPHOLSTERY

SWITCH TO BE FLICKED ON CITY’S SPECTACULAR CHRISTMAS Families are invited to pack out the Peace Gardens later this month as Sheffield is transformed into a winter wonderland for the city’s annual Christmas light switchon. A full programme of entertainment will begin from 2pm on Sunday, November 23, before the big switch itself is flicked at 5.30pm in the Peace Gardens. Musicians, choirs and

pantomime performers starring in this year’s production of “Dick Whittington” at the Lyceum Theatre will be entertaining crowds around the city centre throughout the afternoon. Meanwhile, other family-friendly attractions will include an elf trail, meet-andgreets with film and television characters, and the chance to see vehicles from the National Emergency

Museum. Councillor Isobel Bowler, cabinet member for culture, sport and leisure at Sheffield City Council, said: “I hope that families will come into the city centre to enjoy our Christmas light switch on. “The theme this year is a traditional Christmas, with a focus on the Christmas tree in front of the Town Hall. The city centre will be illuminated to add some

sparkle through to New Year. “The Christmas Market will also be open, giving opportunities to buy that unusual gift and also festive food and drink.” This year’s Christmas market will open on Friday, 14 November, housed in wooden cabins in the Peace Gardens and stretching the length of Fargate. As well as independent traders selling a variety of gifts, jewellery, crafts and

fresh produce, there will be refreshment stalls selling hot food and drinks. The market runs from 10am to 6pm daily throughout November. In December, the market will also be open until 8pm each Wednesday. Children are also sure to be enchanted by the all-new for Sheffield Christmas display in the Moor Market, more details on which will be available soon.
