WIN TICKETS TO SEE SHEFFIELD’S WORLD CHAMPION KELL BROOK AT THE ARENA

Kell Brook will defend his IBF World Welterweight title against number one mandatory challenger ‘Jo Jo’ Dan at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield on March 28. Tickets are now on general sale. The Sheffield star landed the title in August with a career-high win over Shawn Porter and makes a long-awaited return to action in his hometown, with his first defence of the title being his first fight in the Steel City since he stopped Vyacheslav Senchenko in October 2013. Brook dives straight into the deep-end following his life-threatening injury when he was attacked whilst on holiday in September as he meets the Canadianbased Romanian Dan, who edged out Kevin Bizier in a final eliminator for ‘The Special One’s’ title in December. “After everything that’s happened over the last six months, it feels incredible knowing I will be defending my World title in Sheffield,” said Brook. “I want to get this mandatory out of the way and then target those mega fights that are out there in the division. There is no chance that I will be underestimating Jo Jo Dan though as I know how he will be feeling having worked so hard to get into the mandatory position just like I did, but I will be working twice as hard to keep the belt that I earned.” Brook’s first World title defence is supported by a great undercard as talented Steel City favourite Adam Etches defends his IBF International Middleweight title against Sergey Khomitsky, Gavin McDonnell continues his fairy tale story challenging Ukrainian Oleksander Yegorov for the vacant European Super Bantamweight title. Kal Yafai continues his march towards a World title, GB Podium squad member Charlie Edwards fights

for the second time in the paid ranks on the bill. Frankie Gavin has just signed a promotional deal with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing and will fight under Hearn for the first time, defending one of his three titles on the undercard of Kell Brook’s IBF Welterweight World title defence before he headlines at the NIA in Birmingham in May. “To see Kell walk out in front of a sold-out crowd in his hometown of Sheffield is going to be an emotional night,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Kell has gone to America and beaten an American to win the World title – it’s a massive achievement and it shows that he is a very, very special fighter. Jo Jo Dan is a tough fight, there’s no way that Kell can be anything but 100 per cent to beat him – and I have no doubt that he will be. There are some massive fights out there for Kell if he can take care of Jo Jo, but his focus is solely on Dan and I expect him to shine on March 28.” Tickets are now on general sale and are available online at www.motorpointarenasheffield.co.uk, by phone on 0114 256 5656 or in person at the Arena Box Office. Tickets purchased online or by phone are priced £44 - £165 including booking fee. Tickets purchased in person at the Arena Box Office are priced £42 - £157.50 including booking fee. Tickets are limited to 4 per person.

COMPETITION In which weight classification does Kell Brook currently hold the IBF World Title? Winner drawn at Random.

She’s got a point though, fabric softener can’t be good for you. A doctor broke the bad news to a man, that his wife would have to be admitted to a psychiatric hospital. “I’m afraid her mind’s completely gone,” he said. “Makes sense,” mumbled the man. “She’s been giving me a piece of it every day for the last 15 years.”

With metalcore Kings While She Sleeps headlining the one day festival, held throughout venues in Nottingham city centre, they will be joined by the mighty Dead Harts along side sibling pack Rolo Tomassi, all flying the flag for the greatest city in the UK (biased…us…never!) Hit The Deck is quickly becoming one of the most exciting one day events to grace the British festival calendar. Held throughout various venues in the city, to include Rock City, Stealth and The Forum, over forty bands have already been announced with plenty more still to come. Headlining the event, and pioneers for Sheffield’s hardcore scene, While She Sleeps. We challenge anybody to discover a group more patriotic about their home town; their lyrics sum up their experiences and emotions towards the steel city, with killer track “Seven Hills” a homage to remaining faithful to this beautiful city. They

are set to release their second studio album, “Brainwashed,” on 23rd March 2015, which is expected to be absolutely phenomenal. Also proudly supporting Sheffield is that of upcoming rising stars Dead Harts. Already gaining a pretty hefty following for themselves, the group have recently announced a full UK tour with Devil Sold His Soul, which will see them grace stages in Leeds, London, Bristol, Manchester and Glasgow. Joining the fellowship and our final group to fly the flag for Sheffield at Hit The Deck 2015 is that of mathcore veterans Rolo Tomassi. Forming in 2005, this five piece have released five studio albums and countless singles, ensuring they are one of the most vital groups within their genre. Rolo Tomassi are famed for their live performances, having been described as “insane hardcore acrobats” whilst in the midst of a show…never ones to hold back or give anything less than 100 percent, we guarantee you won’t want to miss these at Hit The Deck 2015.

FISH & CHIP FACTS

As a nation we just love our chips and 10% of the entire British potato crop is needed to supply all the fish and chip shops across the country Fish and Chip sales boom in a recession From March to November 2008, there were more than 548 million visits to fish and chip shops – up 5 per cent from 523 million in 2007 Fried fish began in working-class London at the beginning of Queen Victoria’s Reign, selling the leftovers from Billingsgate fish market. Fried ‘chipped’ potatoes appeared in Lancashire around the 1860s the two were served together somewhere around 1870. In 1845 vinegar was first recommended to be splashed over fish and chips by victorian cook, Eliza Acton, as a means of sweetening the fish. Joseph Malin opened the first fish & chip shop in Cleveland Street, London in the 1860’s. In 1906 in Lancashire, Theodore Clegg opened a 70 seaterfish and chip restaurant and divided his customers into three classes - first, second and third according to their personal appearance and social status. In 1940 fish and chips was the only ‘restaurant’ food not to be rationed during the Second World War. More than 283 million portions of fish and chips are sold in the UK each year. Yorkshire people scoff more than 69 million portions a year.

LIFE COACH CROSSES CHANNEL FROM CAPITAL TO CAPITAL IN SUPPORT OF CANCER CHARITY

A life coach from Sheffield plans to cycle from London to Paris in June to support her local cancer hospital. Debbie Cundy (47), from Oughtibridge, will embark on the gruelling challenge, covering a total of over 252 miles, to raise as much money as possible for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity. Debbie, who has lost over an incredible 12 stone in weight in recent years by embarking on several of the cancer charity’s active events, will pedal off alongside 47 friends on the 4th June with hopes of reaching the French capital in just 3 days. After working tirelessly in her spare time to set up her own life coaching service, Debbie now encourages and supports others hoping to lead a fit and healthy lifestyle whilst doing what she can to support the cancer charity. Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity is the only dedicated charity for the hospital and exists to support the world-class cancer research and to improve the treatment and care for people living with cancer. Throughout 2015 the charity will fund various projects to enable the continued improvement of Weston Park Hospital; including the expansion of research studies, improving the way

cancer treatments are delivered and supporting the ongoing care provisions of patients and their families affected by cancer. After witnessing close friends and family battle cancer, Debbie has been an avid supporter of Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity for many years. From abseiling down the hospital walls, mountain biking, undertaking several cycling challenges including the charity’s own biking event, The Big Pedal in 2013; Debbie has gone above and beyond to help raise money for the hospitals dedicated charity. Debbie said, “The London to Paris bike ride will be a real challenge for me and the others taking part. We’re hoping to raise as much money as possible for our chosen charities. “Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity makes such a huge difference to cancer patients across our region that it’s vital that we all ride, run or walk this year for ‘Team Weston Park’ so that the hospitals work can continue.” This year the cancer charity are encouraging anyone thinking of undertaking a physical challenge to join their ‘& Raise’ teams to achieve personal fitness goals whilst simultaneously raising vital funds. Charity Fundraiser, Sarah Cross said, “It’s inspiring that Debbie is

taking on such a tough challenge to support the charity and moreover the hospital which cares for over 75,000 battling cancer in our region currently.” “Debbie is a great ambassador for the charity and this year, we’re hoping that more and more people will climb on their bikes as part of ‘Team Weston Park’ and help us pedal towards a brighter future for those receiving cancer treatment at Weston Park Hospital.” To donate to Debbie’s fundraising efforts visit her Just Giving page at: https://www.justgiving.com/ Debbie-Cundy1/ To find out more about the work of Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity visit http://www. wphcancercharity.org.uk/ or call the office on 01142265370.

Angler’s Corner with Clint Walker

It’s been one of those weeks where I seem to have got loads done, but done very little fishing! I was on the bank, but spent more time behind the camera than actually doing any angling. I’ve had a lot of product reviews to get through this week, and so I’ve been setting up a number of shots to effectively illustrate some new items from the Drennan stable, and adding to the extensive library of images for one of my sponsors Vardis Tackle. As none of my current supporters ‘do’ lure tackle, I’m free to assist colleagues when it comes to checking out new predator products, and the recent releases from Drennan definitely warrant further investigation! (Read more about individual products on the main UKMA site) Many of the mainstream manufacturers offer similar products, but we noted quite a few subtle differences which really made the products stand out, including super supple wire coated with nylon which ensured superb flexibility whilst protecting both fish and angler, incredibly sharp hooks, and some innovative lure designs which shall surely tickle some toothy tastebuds! You will have to read more over the coming weeks to find out more, but I promise you, Drennan have got it right with the E-SOX range! I’ve also been trying to come up with something a bit different from the usual type of product shot, so chose to shoot some images for Vardis Tackle underwater! Everyone has seen the standard type of photograph, so I made the effort to rig some shots in the margins of a local crystal clear gravel pit to try and show the angler what the product really looks like, where it really counts; below the surface! I use the Vardis Tackle range almost exclusively; as a newcomer to the team, admittedly I’m still finding out about the whole range of specimen terminal tackle, and the only issue I’ve had so far is that there is just so much! If you don’t believe me, take a look at www. vardistackle.co.uk and I bet you’ll still be looking an hour later; it’s packed with goodies! Although I’m a big fan of the comprehensive range of super sticky hooks which offer a solution for any situation, I’ve been taking a more in depth look at a number of hooklink materials on offer. I think that the advent of coated braids opened a whole new range of rig options for the carp and specimen angler, and Vardis have it all in the bag with products such as Downfall

and Skinline, which allow the angler to strip back the braid easily and tie a whole range of rigs with ease. I also like the braid range and use the fluorocarbon throughout winter or when fishing in clear water; it’s awesome stuff! I also had chance to look around the public park venue whilst shooting, and had a number of very pleasant discussions with people who walked by. Although I had rods in the water, bitter conditions made a catch unlikely in the few short hours I was there (that’s my excuse anyway!) so I took the opportunity to engage other park users and chat about angling as they showed an interest in what I was doing. I’m aware that there has been conflict at this particular venue, especially with dog owners, so it was nice to chat with locals to see what their impressions were. Most were of the opinion that anglers were a surly bunch, content to mutter grumpily in answer to a cheery greeting and not at all keen to converse with passersby. So I made an effort; I explained what I was hoping to catch, discussed the wildlife and birdlife I’d seen that morning, showed them the products I was using, and generally tried to encourage an exchange to generate some interest in angling rather than have the general non-fishing public dismiss us anglers as a bunch of miserable loonies! Is it important? I think it’s vital to engage other people to try and encourage lapsed anglers or newcomers to wet a line so that we can all help to sustain a sport/pastime crying out for new blood, so try it; take a mate fishing and see what happens... you may be pleasantly surprised! St Valentine’s Day played host to the last League Cup Quarter-Final, as well as 18 league games. League Cup Quarter-Final Division Two outfit Parkgate Reserves’ cup run came to an end in dramatic fashion, as they lost 1-0 in extra-time to High Green Villa. Joe Long scored the winner to put 2012/13 finalist High Green into Semi-Finals where they will face Joker FC on Thursday 12th March. The other Semi-Final is an all Premier Division affair between Swinton Athletic and Oughtibridge WMFC on Wednesday 25th March. Premier Division League leaders Swinton Athletic registered their second 3-2 home win in a week, with a hard-fought win over Millmoor Juniors. Swinton’s lead remains at four points though, as second placed Houghton Main saw-off fourth placed Swallownest Miners Welfare 2-1 at Middlecliffe Lane. Adam Stead and Ashley Emmett were both on target for Houghton Main, as they bounced back from last weeks’ loss to Jubilee Sports. A brace from Ben Furniss inspired Frecheville to a much-needed 2-1 home win over Oughtibridge WMFC. The win puts five points between Frecheville and second bottom Wombwell Main. Goals from Scott Bingley and Charlie Hobson gave Jubilee Sports a 2-1 win over Athersley Recreation Reserves at Grange Park. The win takes Jubilee Sports into third place, only four points off the leaders but they have played

four games more than their rivals. Stocksbridge Park Steels Reserves remain fourth bottom following their 2-1 away win over Wombwell Main. Stocksbridge have only lost once in the league in their last five matches. Struggling Joker FC recorded their first league victory since September with a 3-2 win over Wickersley at the Bill Chafer Youth Centre. Division One Leaders North Gawber Colliery registered their ninth consecutive league win, as they beat Silkstone United 2-1 at Woolley Miners Welfare. Penistone Church Reserves kept up the pressure on the leaders with an emphatic 6-0 away win over AFC Dronfield. On 49 goals Penistone are by far the highest goalscorers in Division One and are only two points off the leaders, but have played two games more. The game of the day, at least goal-scoringwise came at Herringthorpe Leisure Centre, where Sheffield Bankers beat Rotherham Town 6-5. Davy FC recorded their biggest league win of the season, with a 3-0 win over struggling Millmoor Juniors Reserves at Grange Park. Kingstone United put a two point cushion between them and the bottom two, with a vital 3-1 away win over fourth placed Thorpe Hesley. South Kirkby Colliery followed up last weeks’ 2-2 draw with Rotherham Town, with a further 2-2 draw away against mid-table Ecclesfield Red Rose.

MILLERS MAKE MOST OF BREAK

Rotherham United have taken advantage of the break in the fixture list to go away and train at top class facility in the Midlands. Steve Evans took his first-team squad away for a couple of days giving the players the opportunity to train in a different venue, whilst also take advantage of some top class leisure facilities. “Obviously once again thanks to our Chairman for allowing us to come away to this fantastic venue,” boss Evans told www.themillers.co.uk “The venue hosts fantastic training pitches whilst we will also take advantage of spa and leisure facilities as well to give the players some vital down time with a crucial part of the season now upon us. The lads will be working hard on the training field as we look to be in the best possible shape ahead of the game with Derby County on Tuesday night.” Meanwhile manager Steve Evans has confirmed that full-back Frazer Richardson is in line to be fit for Tuesday’s Championship fixture with Derby County. Richardson was forced to play out the final 20 minutes of the game at Blackburn on Tuesday with an arm injury after the Millers had already used their full allocation of subs. After the game it was revealed that there was some concern that the former Leeds man may have dislocated his shoulder, but following scans Evans revealed: “We have had some good news regarding Frazer after he underwent some scans on his shoulder area,” Evans told www.themillers.co.uk. “They revealed that there was no dislocation, but the consultant confirmed that there was deep bruising. Following some intensive treatment over the weekend and into the early part of next week we are hopeful of having Frazer available for selection for the game against Derby County.”

A GREAT WEEK FOR ROVERS

It was an unchanged side for Paul Dickov with Nathan Tyson leading the front line on his own, following on from the midweek demolition of Crawley. Very much like midweek, Rovers started the game on top as they looked to back up their 5-0 victory over Crawley with a home win against struggling Yeovil. Harry Forrester continued his good run of form and caused the Yeovil defence real problems down the left from the off. Fancy footwork from him won a free kick which forced Artur Krysiak into his first save of the afternoon. More good work from Forrester brilliantly set up Paul Keegan on the edge of the area. His shot was heading for the top corner but for a fingertip save from Krysiak. Minutes later Forrester was at it again with a surging run down the left wing. Cutting inside he saw his shot saved, but Rovers top goal scorer Nathan Tyson was there to poke the rebound home and give the home side the lead. Minutes later the home side almost doubled their lead as a Kyle Bennett free kick took a wicked deflection forcing a wonderful save from Krysiak, who was going the opposite way. Yeovil’s first real chance of the game came on the stroke of half time as Gozie Ugwu received

TICKET NEWS FOR OWLS GAME

Tickets for the Sky Bet Championship fixture with Sheffield Wednesday are selling faster than anticipated, with the deadline fast approaching before tickets are sent to the Owls. There has been a huge interest in this highlyanticipated fixture as fans continue to snap up tickets for the visit of the Owls on Saturday 21st March. The club shortly have to make the decision on the number of tickets to send Sheffield Wednesday. Ideally we want to give as many Rotherham United supporters the chance to attend this fixture but at the same time not jeopardise the prospect of a sell-out at AESSEAL New York Stadium. Therefore home sales need to hit the required target by Wednesday 18th February. We advise fans who want to attend who have yet to purchase to buy their tickets as soon as possible, with the ticket office open every day.

the ball in a good position in the box. Aiming for the top corner, his shot was well blocked by captain Andy Butler and on that the referee blew for half time. HALF TIME SCORE: Rovers 1-0 Yeovil Rovers came out looking for more in the second half as they continued to set the tempo of the game. Dispossessing the Glovers in midfield substitute Curtis Main made a run down the right before slipping the ball to Dean Furman. With the pass taking a favourable deflection, Furman found himself in a great position to confidently finish the ball into the bottom corner. With 15 minutes to go the Glovers day went from bad to worse. As a header was brilliantly cleared off the line by Furman, Tyson broke from inside his own half, sprinting all the way into the Yeovil box his square ball found Bennett at the back post who made no mistake in beating Krysiak and seal the win for Rovers. New signing Abdul Razak was introduced to cheers at the Keepmoat with fifteen minutes to go. With Stephen Bywater not having to make a save in the second half, Rovers looked comfortable throughout and never looked like conceding with Paul Dickov doing the double over a team for the first time this season and moving up to 8th place in League One.

DICKOV APPLAUDS SPIRIT IN CAMP

Paul Dickov has lauded the team spirit that he has engendered during his tenure at Keepmoat Stadium. A revamped fines list and an increased sense of responsibility is just one of the things on Dickov’s agenda to help Rovers push for a play-off berth come the end of the campaign. “It’s something that we’ve been trying to build since I got here. I had a friend from the press down recently and the first thing that hit him about the training ground was the atmosphere and the fact that everyone gets along with each other; there are no cliques and it’s jovial,” he said. “The serious business and professionalism is evident during training and then they’ll stick around afterwards. I’ve got a group of players that get on which is good but we need a serious side too and that’s where my serious pros help.” Dickov and his side were preparing for back to back home games, something which on paper is easier than the reality. “We have to be in and around in the last month or so of the season and then we’d be happy with that. We’ve got to make sure that we have the same performance levels as the other night and people were asking me to pick individuals out the other night and it was so difficult because everyone was a 7/10 and above.” Dickov eluded to the fact that he is hoping for a bit of give and take from his staff in a bid to hit the end of season lottery of the top six. “The players know what I’m like as a manager, I’ll back them all the way and get along well with them but there are points when I’ve got to come down on top of them and I’m not afraid to do that. They appreciate me letting them being a team and having fun but they know that once we get going, we mean business,” he said. “I let the players manager their own fines and if there’s any contention, they come up and see me and its rare they do that. Right throughout football, they tend to finish at Christmas and it goes to the Christmas party so they don’t mind paying up because they’ll get it back but then it dwindles out in the New Year. We’ve nailed them on it this year though and I know there’s nothing better than stitching your teammates up and it could be the stupidest little thing but it creates a good atmosphere and discipline. It’s built on trust, and because they want to manage it themselves, they’re involved.” he went on. “I like to give them responsibility but have a laugh and a joke with them.”

MERCURY SPORT - SHEFFIELD UNITED

BLADES NEWS2014/15 CLOUGH’S BLADES BEAT LEAGUE LEADERS AGAIN For the second time in a fortnight, the Blades beat the league leaders - this time it was Bristol City beaten on their own patch. Matt Smith gave Bristol City the lead but on Valentine’s Day, all the love was for Nigel Clough and co. thanks to three second half goals. Turner continued in goal for the Blades, Howard’s name was not on the teamsheet when they were handed in to the referee at 2pm, obviously

still suffering from a back complaint. Boss Clough made just one change with Kennedy starting and Campbell-Ryce dropping to the bench, which indicated a change in formation. The initial 20 minutes were end-to-end with the Blades holding their own but opportunities on both goals were severely limited. Flint attempted to attach himself to a back post cross from Elliott following a quick corner and McEveley, after scoring in

midweek, tried his luck from distance again. Clough was forced to introduce Holt for the injured Baxter on 24 minutes and soon after Coutts was the first in the referee’s book. The next yellow card also went United’s way, Basham feeling the wrath of the referee after a challenge on Bryan. As the half progressed, the end to end-to-end action continued but the vital cross and finish arrived for the home side on 41 minutes.

Freeman’s delivery from the left took a deflection and dropped invitingly for SMITH to sidefoot past Turner from six yards. United won another corner as halftime approached as the visitors sought an immediate response but the City defence held firm to protect their lead up until the break. The start to the second half was entertaining with the sides exchanging chances in the opening five minutes, EmmanuelThomas for the home side and Murphy for the Blades. Freeman’s longranger was just wide before the Blades levelled with the next attack, albeit amid confusion on 54

A HAPPY MORGS REFLECTS Speaking after the Blades terrific secondhalf performance in Saturday’s impressive 3-1 victory over Bristol City at Ashton Gate, Chris Morgan praised the response of the players after ‘words at half-time’. United went in behind after Matt Smith’s opener four minutes before the interval and Morgan said the United management team questioned

the players belief in their own ability during the break, but were delighted with the response thereafter, with Matt Done netting a brace and Jamie Murphy rounding off a tremendous win against the Robins with a third late on. Morgan remarked: “It is a fantastic against a Bristol City who are deservedly top of the league at the

moment. They have been in great form at home all season and they hadn’t concede a goal at Ashton Gate in 2015 until in midweek against Port Vale. They are a good side and Steve Cotterill has assembled an excellent squad of players, but to recover from a goal down and score three times in the second-half is testimony to the lads, because we had words

at half-time.” The first-team coach continued: “We felt we had performed well enough in the opening 45 minutes to turnaround all square at worst, so to be behind was frustrating to say the least, but what a response we got from the players. We played in the secondhalf like we know we can play. For their goal in particular we questioned our positivity because we went from having a promising attack on the right to the ball been in our net 10 seconds later. So for us to get on the front foot and not look back is so pleasing and it just shows how good we can be, what we have to do now is believe in ourselves from the first minute to the last in games. If we do we should have a very exciting end to the season.”

minutes. The move began with Basham winning possession on the right, Brayford delivered a low cross and although Fielding saved from Holt, in a melee the ball was forced home from close range, DONE credited with the goal. Doyle was booked soon after, whilst Harris kicked off the line from EmmanuelThomas after a run from Bryan. The chances continued. A curler from Coutts was held by Fielding and Emmanuel-Thomas dragged a shot wide. The last 15 minutes, though, belonged to the Blades. There may have been confusion with the first but not the second. Harris slid a ball down the channel for Murphy,

whose long cross was turned in at the near post by DONE. Five minutes later, the second half turn around was complete. This time a strong challenge by Basham in midfield enabled MURPHY space to run at the exposed City defence and he cut inside Williams before beating Fielding. For the closing stages, Adams replaced Done and Basham blocked from Freeman as City poured forward looking to get back into the game. Six added minutes at the end of the 90 gave the home side hope but United defended well. Turner and co. held firm and welcomed in the three points on a day when the division’s top three all lost.

MERCURY SPORT - SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

OWLS NEWS2014/15 DRAB DRAW AS OWLS AND SEAGULLS SHARE SPOILS The Owls and Brighton posted a low-key goalless draw at Hillsborough on Saturday. Chances were few at both ends, with visiting goalkeeper David Stockdale excelling for the Seagulls. For Brighton’s part, they threatened sporadically but not enough to take all three points back to the South Coast. The early exchanges were relatively even, with neither keeper troubled, until the 25th minute when the most enterprising move of the first half almost spawned a goal. Liam Palmer – recalled to the right back berth – delivered a perfect cross to the near post for Sergiu Bus, whose glancing header brought the best out of Stockdale. Wednesday went on to ask more of the questions but Brighton came within a whisker of scoring on the counter on 32 minutes when Rohan Ince smashed a half

volley inches over the crossbar. The Owls were dealt a blow moments later when Jose Semedo went off with a leg injury – Sam Hutchinson replaced the stand-in skipper. But right on half time, they went close to taking the lead, again with a Palmer cross and near post header, this time Will Keane forcing Stockdale into a spectacular save. Keane made way for Atdhe Nuhiu for the second period and Wednesday started brightly, with Kieran Lee flicking wide from a Jacques Maghoma feed. Lewis McGugan then whipped in a dangerous cross that just evaded three onrushing attackers in front of the Kop. On 70 minutes, the atmosphere was ramped up when Lee had two chances to break the deadlock. First the midfielder bore down a goal after taking a Hutchinson ball into his stride and was thwarted by an Inigo Calderon tackle at the last. Then

Lee got the better of Calderon two yards inside the box but Stockdale saved low to his left. Despite Wednesday’s dominance, the Seagulls did show on occasion and they fashioned a clear opening 15 minutes from the end but Bruno Saltor blazed over the bar. The Owls introduced Stevie May with nine minutes to go but it was strike partner and fellow substitute Atdhe Nuhiu who could have made the breakthough at the death only to fire over having neatly turned his marker from eight yards. Owls: Westwood, Palmer, Lees, Zayatte, Helan, Lee, McGugan, Semedo (Hutchinson 32), Maghoma, Bus (May 81), Keane (46) Brighton: Stockdale, Saltor, Greer, Dunk, Calderon, Baldock (Halford 78), Teixeira, Best (Mackail-Smith 78), Ince, Kayal (Stephens 73), Bennett

GRAY REMAINS UPBEAT Stuart Gray has urged the players and supporters to keep believing following the goalless draw with Brighton at Hillsborough on Saturday. Wednesday created plenty of chances against the Seagulls but drew another blank. On the other side of the coin, the hosts posted another clean sheet at the back. And Gray said: “We have to keep believing. We had chances in the first half and chances in

the second half and I would be concerned if that wasn’t the case. Their keeper made three crucial saves and we are all frustrated again. We will keep at it, keep believing and if that means working even harder, than so be it. We kept another clean sheet, though, and that’s a boost for Keiren Westwood and the defence.” The Owls head to Derby next week and Gray remains confident in his side’s ability to get back to

winning ways. He added: “I have every confidence in this group of players. I said I was looking for a reaction following what I thought was a very disappointing performance at Ipswich in midweek. The improvement I saw today was 100% and we need to take that kind of effort and commitment into the game at Derby next week.”

LATEST TEAM NEWS

The Owls are waiting on news of a knee injury sustained by Will Keane on Saturday. The loanee from Manchester United was substituted at half time against Brighton. Scan results will reveal the extent of any damage. Head coach Stuart Gray said: “Will picked up what looks like a medial ligament injury. He left the ground in a brace and we’ll see what the scan shows.” Owls forward Chris Maguire will be back available for selection as Wednesday face

Derby this weekend. The 26-year-old has served his twomatch suspension after picking up his tenth booking of the campaign in the recent clash with Cardiff.
