THE HUMAN LEAGUE TO KICKSTART MUSIC LIVE AT DONCASTER RACECOURSE Doncaster Racecourse has announced that it will play host to Sheffield formed electronic new wave band The Human League, after an evening of racing, on Saturday 16 May. The trio, comprising vocalist and songwriter Philip Oakley, the only constant band member since 1977, and long-serving female vocalists Joanne Catherall and Susan Ann Sulley will take to the stage following a packed seven race card at the Town Moor venue, South Yorkshire’s premier racecourse. The three-piece band, which evolved into a hugely successful synthpop band throughout the 1980s, has racked up five albums and eight UK Top 10 singles, selling more than 20 million records in total in a career spanning five decades. They are set to perform a raft of hit singles from their back catalogue including Don’t You Want Me, Human and Together in Electric Dreams in front of racecourse crowds. Commenting on the news that Human League are set to kick off the Music Live series at Doncaster Racecourse on May 16, Kieron Gallagher, executive director, said: “The Human League was formed in Sheffield back in the late 70s so it is only fitting that they get the Music Live series underway here in South Yorkshire on 16 May. Hit singles like Don’t You Want Me and Together in Electric Dreams have
stood the test of time and I am sure that they will get the crowds singing along as they soak up the atmosphere late into the evening here at Town Moor. “We have a fantastic line up of musical entertainment to compliment the top sporting action over the summer months with Madness, UB40 and DJs Jo Whiley and Vernon Kay all set to entertain the crowds. We have one remaining act to announce imminently who I’m sure won’t disappoint.” As part of the Music Live series Doncaster Racecourse is also set to play host to Madness on Saturday 27 June with another big name act soon to be announced for Saturday 15 August. The venue will also welcome UB40 who will perform after racing on Ladbrokes Derby Day on Saturday 06 June and it has recently announced its first DJ Live event featuring Jo Whiley and Vernon Kay on Saturday 01 August. Tickets for their summer evening of racing and The Human League live performance are now on sale priced from £33 per person for the Grandstand Enclosure (when booked online). The first race gets underway at 5.30pm and the last at 8.30pm with the live music performance following afterwards. For further information about Doncaster Racecourse or to book tickets call 01302 304200 or go to www. doncaster-racecourse.co.uk.

I just hope this re-enactment of the burial of Richard III helps them catch the blokes that did it. I tried using a colander to view the eclipse. I think I’ve strained my eyes. A cash machine has just charged me two pound for a transaction but told me to cover my PIN to prevent from being robbed. Pretty ironic if you ask me. The hardest part of Hypochondriacs Anonymous is admitting you don’t have a problem. Just as we were heading, to bed my girlfriend asked, “Did you put the wheelie-bin out?” “Ah, no. I’ll do it in the morning,” I replied. “What about the cat?” she said. “Well, I’ll ask him but I don’t think he’ll be able to push it,” I answered. I’ve lost my trousers that are too long in the leg. But I’m sure they’ll turn up. “I ran a half marathon” sounds so much better than: “I quit halfway through a marathon” The NRA says that guns don’t kill people, people kill people. My uncle would disagree - he was killed by a shark. I went to the cemetery yesterday to lay some flowers on a relative’s grave. As I was standing there I noticed four grave diggers walking about with a coffin. Three hours later and they were still walking about with it. I thought to myself, “These idiots have lost the plot!”

YOUNG PERFORMERS SUPPORT TEENAGE CANCER TRUST AT SHEFFIELD THEATRES
Young members of Sheffield People’s Theatre, currently rehearsing for a production set in a teenage cancer ward, have this week had their heads shaved to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Billy Hinchliff, Daniel Morris and Joseph Pass, along with
seven other young performers, play teenage cancer patients in Hospital Food, a new play by Eugene O’Hare set in a city hospital cancer unit. With the support of their parents and schools, the boys underwent their transformation in readiness for the production on Wednesday 25 March and hope to raise money for the charity by holding collections after the performance. Hospital Food is part of National Theatre’s Connections, which celebrates new writers and talented young theatre makers. The performances, all by local theatre companies, will take place in the Crucible Studio from Tuesday 24 March to Saturday 28 March. Each year the National Theatre asks ten writers to create new plays for the project which are performed by young theatre companies across the country, with the help of industry professionals. Sheffield Theatres will be showing seven of the plays, from writers including actor/writer Jamie Brittain (cocreator of E4’s Skins) and actor Cush Jumbo (Getting On, Vera) which will be performed by nine theatre groups from across the region comprised of members aged from thirteen to nineteen. Emily Hutchinson, Creative Projects Manager at Sheffield Theatres commented: 'The commitment to this project from all of our performers has been incredible and I’m delighted that we have been able to raise some money towards such a deserving cause. Cancer affects so many young people in this country, so I am proud that we are able to represent them in this new play.’ Tickets for National Theatre Connections are on sale now from Sheffield Theatres’ Box Office, priced £5.00 each which includes two performances (except Tue 24 March). Call 0114 249 6000 or visit sheffieldtheatres.co.uk to book.

DERBYSHIRE DUO INVADE THE LEADMILL
Flying the flag for the North, Derbyshire clan Drenge are back in force and preparing for their headline show at Sheffield’s Leadmill on 17th April. With their second studio album, “Undertow” set for release on 6th April, the two piece from Castleton are hotly tipped by national press as one of the most promising groups to emerge out of the alt-rock scene. Forming in 2011, brothers Eoin and Rory Loveless have come a long way since pub backrooms and local boozers were the only way for them to spread their word. Projecting themselves into the big time, the duo released their debut album, “Drenge,” in August 2013, which peaked at number thirty nine on the Itunes chart. The album received a string of positive reviews, including that of Clash Magazine who described the record as “thrilling…the thrashing energy heard in earlier tracks does relent somewhat towards the end, yet this remains an impressive introductory manifesto.” Their debut was also nominated for Zane Lowe’s 2013 Top 100 Hottest Records, thrusting them into
mainstream success. However, the band owe a certain level of their early success to no other than Labour MP Tom Watson. Following his resignation from the Shadow Cabinet in July 2013, Watson wrote on his blog: “Be that great Labour leader that you can be, but try to have a real life too. And If you want to see an awesome band, I recommend Drenge.” Bizarre but true. 2014 saw the group perform one of their biggest live shows to date on the NME stage at Leeds and Reading Festival, whilst January 2015 witnessed Drenge make their debut appearance on U.S television. Performing on the Late Show with David Letterman on 27th January, the duo are successfully rooting to project themselves cross continents. Drenge released their brand new single, “Can Do What We Want” from their forthcoming album “Undertow.” Check out the single on the bands website; www.drenge.co.uk. Drenge are headlining Leadmill Sheffield on 17th April 2015. Visit www.leadmill.co.uk for ticket information and show times.

GET ON YOUR DANCING SHOES...
The lineup for Tramlines Festival has just got even bigger thanks to an injection of electronic and alternative artists to the 2015 bill. New acts to perform in Sheffield from 24-26 July include Ninja Tune’s Romare, 6 Music’s Gilles Peterson, the young talent of Evian Christ, the legendary A Guy Called Gerald, a DJ set from Basement Jaxx and many more. Now in its seventh year with The Charlatans, Basement Jaxx and Wu Tang Clan already in place to headline, Tramlines is one of the UK’s most musically eclectic festivals. Held across multiple outdoor spaces and venues across Sheffield city centre, Tramlines is the alternative festival to discover a ton of hot new talent alongside internationally acclaimed acts – and it’s seriously good value for money at just £30 for a weekend ticket. Following their live headline set on the Main Stage on Saturday night, Basement Jaxx will stay on to play an after-hours DJ set at o2 Academy, filling the dancefloor like only they know how. Elsewhere is the hugely talent Romare, whose cut-and-paste production has attracted the attention of fans from across the bass music spectrum; legendary record collector, DJ, producer, label boss and experimental music polymath Gilles Peterson; Kanye West collaborator Evian Christ; the UK’s first acidhouse producer and the man behind the seminal classic Voodoo Ray A Guy Called Gerald; and Border Community head honcho and trendsetting producer James Holden. For fans of house and techno, there’s plenty on offer as Tramlines has topped up the bill with the minimal warehouse techno sounds of Sheffield’s Lo Shea; acid house and techno from Berlinbased Klasse Recordings founder Luca Lozano; and bags of grime-inspired house and techno from Pev n Kowton of the Livity Sound trio. Keeping its late night programme as diverse as possible, Tramlines has drafted in talent which spans the bass music scenes. Acts include a live set from South London producer Henry Wu, who’ll delve into garage, jazz and funk; local residents from the hugely popular Banana Hill night Cervo & JVC, with their flamboyant crossover of African and Latin American sounds and global electronica; emerging hip-hop

producer Cypria; dancehall and UK bass artist (and partner in rhythm with Toddla T) Serocee; and from jazz/hip-hop artist Sumochief. Other new additions on the alternative tip include Sheffield’s Blood Sport who, as well as a performing a live set of blistering guitars and techno-gilded polyrhythms, will curate the Tramlines Millennium Gallery Sunday lineup for a second year; 19 year-old singer-songwriter Billie Black, whose soulful R&B has attracted the attention of Gilles Peterson; and Warp Records signing Lonelady. These acts join a bill that already includes Erol Alkan, Mike Skinner (DJ Set), Surgeon, Roman Flugel, Ghostpoet, Buzzcocks, Sugarhill Gang, Melle Mel & Scorpio, Billy Bragg and dozens more. Tramlines festival director Sarah Nulty commented: “We are very excited to add even more fantastic and diverse artists to the bill. We want to ensure that the night at Tramlines is a strong as the daytime. We almost have a continual run of music for 24 hours a day, and with all this in store, we expect people will be getting very little sleep this year!” Weekend tickets can be purchased from www. tramlines.org.uk for only £30+ BF, which makes Tramlines one of the UK’s best value festivals to attend. For up-to-the-minute information about Tramlines 2015, visit www.tramlines.org.uk or follow Tramlines on Twitter @tramlines

COMMUNITY BUS SERVICES - HAVE YOUR SAY FRIENDS NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is looking for Sheffield’s best ‘community friends’ to celebrate local people who have gone above and beyond to support neighbours, family and friends over the past few months. This includes people who may have dropped in on an elderly neighbour to check they were okay, popped to the pharmacist for a poorly friend or even gritted the whole street when ice and snow was forecast. All of the nominated ‘community friends’ will receive a certificate as a thank you from their nominator, and the NHS, for the input that they’ve had in helping someone maintain their independence, mental and physical health. Dr Zak McMurray, GP and Medical Director at NHS Sheffield CCG said: “This is a particularly important scheme for winter as it encourages people to support their friends, family or neighbours and offer them help wherever they may need it but in Sheffield we are extending the scheme into spring and summer once again as we want to encourage people to be ‘community friends’ all year round. If you would like to nominate a Community Friend please visit the NHS Sheffield CCG website www.sheffieldccg.nhs.uk and search ‘Community Friends’ or call 0114 305 1212. If you are interested in helping people in your community you could also contact your nearest Volunteer Centre, who will be able to tell you about volunteering opportunities in your local area.

travelsouthyorkshire.com/sbp SYPTE Deputy Interim Director General, David Young, said: “The Sheffield Bus Partnership has been a huge success since it launched in 2012. Millions of extra passengers are using local services, more buses are running on time, complaints are falling and people are benefitting from new links and better frequencies. We want to build on the strong foundations developed over the last three years. Feedback from members of the public is vital in helping us to do this, so we can continue to shape the bus network around passenger needs. The drop-in sessions and survey provide a great opportunity for the people of Sheffield to tell the Bus Partnership about what they like about their bus services and any areas for improvement.” The groundbreaking Sheffield Bus Partnership aims to improve the city’s bus offer so that the number of people using it grows. It is providing passengers with a simpler bus network, coordinated timetables, tickets that can be used on buses or trams, more services on many routes, fewer changes to timetables, and more buses with low-floor-access. This year’s headliner is The Selecter, famous for their timeless SKA music and 2013 Tramlines headliners. We also add diversity to the festival in the shape of local professional busker James Anthony Lamb. THREE IN A ROW FOR CAMRA CAMPAIGNERS READERS LETTERS AS NEW LAWS ARE ENACTED TO HELP PUBS
CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, lead celebrations for three huge campaign wins on Community Pubs Day last Monday (23rd March), a new national celebration day to highlight and promote the 600 pubs that have so far been listed as Assets of Community Value. The celebration day marks new laws to protect pubs listed as Assets of Community Value (ACVs) in England coming into effect on 6th April, and neatly coincides with the beer tax cut in the recent budget and the passing into law of the Small Business Bill this week, which will give pub company licensees in England and Wales a fairer deal on beer prices and rent. CAMRA members are being urged to visit their local Asset of Community Value pub today to mark this occasion. “Thanks to the efforts of the thousands of CAMRA members
who lobbied their local MP, from 6th April when a pub is listed as an ACV in England it will receive full planning protection, ultimately giving communities a say in what happens if the owner wishes to demolish the pub or convert it to another use. This is a powerful step towards protecting our valued community pubs. All it takes is a local group or 21 locals to start the process of having a pub listed as an ACV, so let’s push the number of listed pubs from hundreds to thousands.” Tim Page, CAMRA Chief Executive. But the celebrations don’t end there, with pub company reform headed for Royal Assent after 10 years of campaigning by CAMRA and business and tenant groups. Their work to secure a fair deal for pub tenants and consumers secured the support of over 45,000 campaigners and 212 MPs, resulting in a major Government
defeat on the Small Business Bill last year. The new law will give tenants tied to the large pub companies the opportunity to opt for a rent-only deal, allowing them to buy their supplies of drinks on the open market at competitive prices. “CAMRA has been campaigning for pub company reform for over 10 years. We are delighted to finally see our campaign come to fruition with changes to the tied system that will be welcomed by thousands of struggling licensees across the country. The Small Business Bill will give them a much fairer deal. This is great news for tenants and great news for pub goers who will benefit from wider beer choice, fairer prices and a thriving pub sector. ” Tim added. CAMRA members will also be raising their glasses this week to celebrate a historic third
cut in beer tax following the Chancellor’s Budget, which will keep beer prices affordable for pub-goers across the country. “It has been an excellent year for CAMRA with three major campaign wins coming to fruition within a few short weeks. None of these would have been possible without our dedicated 170,000 members who work tirelessly to protect the rights of beer drinkers and pub-goers across the country. I would like to say a huge thank you to them for every letter written, petition signed or pub listed, which has played a huge role in CAMRA achieving real change. It is now up to all of us to continue this good work.” Tim Page, CAMRA Chief Executive.
RAISING SOME DOUGH FOR OUR HEROES
The ‘Bake for Heroes’ campaign starts on 18 April – 4 May 2015, however if this isn’t convenient please feel free to choose a date that is. To register or for more information visit www. bakeforheroes.org.uk or call 01980 846459. It cowuldn’t be easier to get involved; you could get friends and neighbours over for tea and a slice of cake in exchange for a donation or hold a bake sale in the middle of the town and
sell lovely treats to the masses! Every single baked delight that is created, sold and eaten makes a difference to the support H4H can provide. A free fundraising pack will be sent to every Bake for Heroes event organiser to help make each event a success. The packs include H4H wristbands, lapel pins, collecting boxes, bunting, balloons and pricing stickers. Emma Parry, CEO & co-founder, Help for Heroes: “H4H is all
about ‘doing your bit’ and this event is a wonderful example of people rallying support and having a great deal of fun while they raise money. The money you raise is needed, it is being used and it is hugely appreciated.” H4H offers comprehensive support to those who have suffered life-changing injuries and illnesses in the line of duty. This is provided through grants to individuals, other charities and organisations, capital build projects and four Recovery Centres across the UK which offer support for life. The money raised by the hugely generous
Help for Heroes (H4H) is asking the great British public to get baking to raise ‘hundreds and thousands’ for our wounded, injured and sick service personnel, veterans and their families.

RAG DOLLS AT WADSLEY BRIDGE CLUB
Believe it or not, I can do near perfect renditions of ‘My Eyes Adored You’ and ‘Sherry Baby’ when I am singing in the shower. It is only when I try to transfer this talent to other rooms in our house that the vocal range seriously dissipates. So I was curious to listen to ‘The Rag Dolls’, a tribute group to one of the best-selling bands of all time. The Four Seasons sold over 100 million records and topped the US Billboard chart on 5 occasions. They developed a unique sound centred on the powerful falsetto
public has been used to support the wounded, but there is still so much more to do. Soldiers, sailors and airmen who are injured today will still need our
voice of Frankie Valli and the close harmonies of the other members. Their rise to stardom has already been documented in the film and stage musical ‘Jersey Boys’. The Rag Dolls take you on a musical journey. Initially they set the scene by recreating the songs of the 1950’s such as ‘Oh Carol’ and ‘Why Do Fools Fall in Love’. But with slick choreography and synchronized movements, they evolve into The Four Seasons displaying the diversity and harmonic sounds of this successful group. All the big hits are played out including ‘Rag Doll’, ‘Walk like a Man’ and ‘Can’t Take my Eyes off of you’. They are both entertaining to watch and joyous to listen to. The magic of their era is evocative. Great night and thanks to Wadsley Bridge for making this tremendous show possible. Lawrence White
support tomorrow and in the days that follow, for the rest of their lives. They are still battling and H4H will not let them battle alone.

Since 2010 the number of people living with cancer has grown from 2 million to 2.5 million, and the number of men living with prostate cancer has increased by 27% to 330,000 men in the UK2. Amanda Fry, a Macmillan Information and Support Specialist on the unit, says, “We want to encourage men to talk to someone if they have any concerns, men often put off going to the doctor maybe because they don't want to make a fuss or don’t want to take time off work. Sometimes though it’s a case of ignoring any potential symptoms with the hope they'll go away. The key to the best outcome is early diagnosis and treatment so would urge anyone exhibiting symptoms of cancer to go and get checked by their doctor. “We are here for anyone who has any questions or worries about any aspect and type of cancer, whether it’s about you, a relative or friend, come on board the bus and talk to us. More than 340,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer every year, we know that cancer can be the loneliest place and we want to help ensure that no one has to face it alone” The most common symptoms of prostate cancer include having to rush to the toilet to pass urine, difficulty in passing urine and passing urine more often than usual, especially at night. For some men the first noticeable symptoms are pain in the back, hips or pelvis. These symptoms could be caused by other problems such as general aches and pains or arthritis, but it is still a good idea to get them checked out by a GP. Our six mobile information units travel around the UK visiting local communities, providing cancer information and advice on the ground. Last year they helped an average of 90 people a day in over 668 locations. If you cannot visit the unit when it comes to South Yorkshire but have questions about cancer visit www.macmillan.org.uk or call Macmillan free on 0808 808 00 00.

LOCAL FOOTBALL
by Michael Clarke It was yet another big week in the County Senior League, with the last League Cup Semi-Final taking place, and a busy league fixture list.
with Clint Walker
A very busy week for me this time around... I’ve managed a few hours fishing (blanking!) but I’m also quite excited by a meeting I’ve had this week. I won’t go into details, but suffice to say, a major retailer is set to invest a huge amount of money into the trade, and I really think it will make some waves... Angling is in dire need of investment. Many of my contacts within the trade reckon that things are hard at the moment, and the fall in licence sales seems to reflect a reduction in the number of anglers on the bank, and therefore those putting money into the circuit. The licence sales figures make pretty grim reading; take out the few who choose to take the risk and not purchase a licence (shame on you) then the only growth sector is in concessionary licences. This means that basically, according to the statistics, anglers are getting older, and within a few years, fishing will be the preserve of pensioners up and down the land unless action is taken! As usual at this time of year, the critics will question the commitment of staff at the Environment Agency, bemoan the perceived number of angler taking fish for the table, the mayhem caused by otters, cormorants and other predators, the apparent lack of licence checks and the need for a three rod ticket. I’ve heard it all before, and I’m bored with it. So you don’t think a licence, a small contribution is required? Tell you what, let’s disband the EA then so you can save your few quid and everyone wins... No? Damn right; it’s a stupid idea put forward by short sighted anglers who will be amongst the first to moan when a farm accident pumps tons of sewage into the river, or an oxygen crash causes the loss of some prime carp, or their club folds due to availability of sound advice about water PH values, micro organisms and countless other things. Wake up, buy your licence and keep ‘em in business! So, back to the original reason for this weeks scribblings. This particular retailer is set to invest an awful lot of money into making their stores a real ‘one stop shop’ for all your angling needs. They also recognise what makes a tackle shop special, so in addition to wallet pleasing prices, they will have ample staff who are knowledgeable about the local area, the latest products and techniques, areas for customers to try out new tactics, new methods, and new tackle, and also hope to become a meeting place for anglers of all abilities to share stories and shoot a line! Charitable links, regular ‘celebrity’ guests, tuition and coaching, events, matches and much more are set to become available under one roof, and the future is very bright. I agree, there is a retail element involved, after all, every business has to be profitable, but the emphasis will be on promoting angling as an inclusive pastime, encouraging youngsters to become interested in fishing, and more importantly, giving them the opportunity to do so! This will have a beneficial effect for the trade, and the future of fishing, and many manufacturers have already subscribed to the idea of this new venture. As an angler, you should look forward to the future, this will be successful, it will bring in new blood, and it will surprise existing anglers with a host of benefits, pleasing prices and much more. Keep your eye out for updates, there is a new sheriff in town, and he won’t be taking prisoners...

League Cup Semi-Final Premier Division leaders Swinton Athletic were knocked-out of the League Cup in their Semi-Final against fifth placed Oughtibridge WMFC. Two late goals gave Oughtibridge a 2-0 win at Sandy Lane to book their place in the final against Joker FC on Thursday 23rd April (at Sandy Lane kick-off 7.30pm). Oughtibridge have been an annoyance to Swinton this season, having beaten them in the league 6-0 in November. Premier Division Swinton’s week went from bad to worse on Saturday, as they slumped to a 4-0 defeat at against Handsworth Parramore. Kyle Lilley scored twice for the defending champions in a vintage performance at Oliver’s Mount. James Dawes and Scott Bates were also on target for Handsworth. Swinton have two league games remaining, and know that four points from those will give them the title. Joker FC climbed off the foot of the table, with a 2-1 win over Jubilee Sports at Chaucer School. Joker have had a bit of a renaissance of late; they have booked their place in the League Cup final and have won four of their last six league games. Wombwell Main kept themselves out of the bottom two, with a 3-1 home win over Millmoor Juniors with goals from Darryl Smith (2) and Ross Tutill. Swallownest Miners Welfare ended a run of four losses, with a hard-fought 3-2 away win over Frecheville. Swallownest remain in fourth place in the table. Oughtibridge WMFC followed up their Semi-Final win with a 2-2 draw against Athersley Recreation Reserves at Sheerien Park. Division One League leaders North Gawber Colliery scored six for the second week running, but this time without reply against Sheffield Bankers at Hillsborough College. North Gawber lead the way by four points, with a game spare. It has been a wonderful week for Penistone Church Reserves, as they recorded back-to-back 5-0 victories. They beat Sheffield Bankers 5-0 at the Memorial Ground on Wednesday, and repeated the feat at the same venue against Davy FC on Saturday. Remarkably, there were five different scorers on both occasions, highlighting two fantastic team performances and keeping them in second place. Third placed Thorpe Hesley were held to a goalless draw by Ecclesfield Red Rose at the Civil Service Ground. Thorpe Hesley have won only one of their last four league games. Kingstone United were emphatic 7-1 winners against strugglers AFC Dronfield at Gosforth Playing Fields. Dronfield are third bottom and have only won one of their last seven league games.

Silkstone United climbed into fourth place, with a 2-1 over Millmoor Juniors Reserves at Grange Park. Division Two League leaders Byron House slipped to their fifth league defeat of the season, as they lost 2-1 to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic Reserves at Park Road. Second placed Denaby Main were able to take advantage of Byron House’s slip as they beat Kiveton Park 2-0 at Stone Close. Denaby are now only six points off the pace with four games in hand. Caribbean Sports also heaped more pressure on the leaders, with a 2-0 win of their own at Roundwood Pavillion against Parkgate Reserves. Caribbean are six points off the lead, having played two games less than the leaders. Steven Ellor scored a hat-trick to inspire Denaby United to a 5-1 home win over Maltby Main Reserves. Denaby are in fourth place and can consider themselves part of the title race, as they are only eight points behind the leaders, with two games spare. Shaw Lane Aqua Force Barnsley Reserves were back to winning ways with a 2-0 win over New Bohemians at SHU Sports Ground. Shaw Lane had previously not recorded a league win since November. 16 year old Liam White came off the bench to rescue Bawtry Town a point, as they drew 1-1 against Frecheville Reserves at the Keepmoat Stadium. U21 Division Handsworth Parramore’s 1005 league record came to an end, after they were held to a 0-0 draw away against defending champions Swallownest Miners Welfare U21. Aminur Rahman had inspired Swallownest to a 4-0 home win over Caribbean Sports U21 on Wednesday night. In-form Millmoor are in third, only two points behind the leaders, but they have also played three games more. Wombwell Main U21 claimed a good win, with a 2-1 home victory over mid-table AFC Dronfield U21.

MILLERS HEARTS BROKEN IN 98TH MINUTE KIERAN Lee broke Millers hearts as his late strike earned Sheffield Wednesday South Yorkshire bragging rights after the Owls pegged the home side back twice to snatch victory following a pulsating second-half. The Owls had ‘keeper Keiren Westwood to thank for keeping the scores level at the interval after he twice denied Matt Derbyshire before Ben Pringle deservedly gave the home side the lead before sub Caolan Lavery equalised for the visitors. However, Bowery struck from a tight angle to give the Millers the lead for a second time before Atdhe Nuhiu powered home a header to level matters once again. With the last kick of the game, Lee waltzed through a static home defence before calmly slotting home to leave the Millers empty-handed. Following back-to-back defeats at the hands of Wigan and Nottingham Forest respectively, the Millers reshuffled their pack by making three changes to their starting line-up for the visit of their near-neighbours. Arsenal goalkeeper Emi Martinez and Charlton loanee Lawrie Wilson were thrown immediately into the fray to make their Millers debuts after putting pen to paper on loan deals just 24 hours previously as Adam Collin had to content with a substitutes berth while Icelandic international Kari Arnason was unavailable due to suspension. Club skipper Craig Morgan also returned at the heart of the Millers rearguard at the expense of Farrend Rawson while Jack Hunt shrugged off a hip injury sustained at the City Ground to take his place in the right back berth. With the kick-off delayed by 15 minutes, the Millers almost took the game by the scruff of the neck in the early minutes when Claude Dielna’s mistake was pounced upon by Conor Sammon, who attacked with menace towards the visitors box and after releasing Matt Derbyshire, the ex-Olympiakos striker cut inside Dielna, who looked to atone for his mistake, before bearing down on goal but Keiren Westwood stood up tall to block his goalbound effort. In the Owls first foray of note, Lewis McGugan fought hard to win possession before jinking past the attentions of Kirk Broadfoot to waltz into the box before firing an effort with the inside of his foot
ROVERS BACK TO WINNING WAYS Paul Dickov named one change to Tuesday’s starting line up, Razak replacing Clarke-Harris who dropped to the bench. The calm opening few minutes at the Ricoh didn’t last long when the Sky Blues took the lead on four minutes. A through ball was played between the Rovers centre backs and straight into the path of Dominic SAMUEL who one on one with Bywater picked his place to make it one –nil. Rovers looked for a quick response with Wellens dragging a shot from range wide and Bennett having his shot blocked on the edge of the area. Fifteen minutes in Razak charged out of midfield and unleashed a vicious shot on target from 25 yards stinging the palms of the Coventry keeper whilst diverting it away from danger. It was the host that came closest to scoring next nearly doubling their leas on eighteen minutes when Stokes had a free header across goal but Bywater watched as it looped past the upright. The pressure didn’t stop as two minutes later Nouble dribbled the ball from the left beating Wabara into the six yard area and from close range hit the post. Rovers make an early substitution on twenty two minutes. Abdul Razak received a booking early on and after committing another foul shortly after he received a
which was arrowing towards the bottom corner but Martinez showed good reflexes to parry the ball to safety. Just past the quarter hour, Hunt and Wilson successfully exchanges passes enabling the former to gallop down the touchline and 11th hour replacement Joe Mattock, who came in for Kamil Zayatte prior to kick-off, cynically clipped the heels of the marauding full-back and although Wednesday were able to snuff out the danger, Mattock was shown the first yellow card of the afternoon when the play came to a halt. Minutes later, Ben Pringle floated a delightful corner which was aimed towards Morgan and a Wednesday defender in attempting the make the clearance screwed the ball towards his own goal and with Westwood looking to punch the ball clear from his own line and with Sammon in pursuit, the ball found the back of the net but any Rotherham joy was curtailed by referee Oliver Langford, who had blown for a foul. At the other end, Mattock got the better of Hunt on the left flank before playing an inviting centre into the path of the onrushing Lee, who looked to turn the ball goalwards but his scuffed effort was blocked en-route to goal by a retreating home defender. Just past the half hour mark, Pringle swung a tantalising corner which narrowly evaded the attentions of Derbyshire but struck the advancing Broadfoot but the ball flashed wide of the target before the visitors were indebted to their ‘keeper Westwood for keeping the scores level in the next home attack. With Pringle again the architect, his incisive corner to the front post saw Derbyshire ghost away from his marker to glance a header which was heading for the far corner but the Owls stopper pulled off a magnificent save to keep the ball out. The home misery was almost compounded as Wednesday turned defence into attack in the blink of an eye from the clearance when Jeremy Helan skipped away from Hunt and his incisive pull-back saw McGugan strike goalwards but Morgan led from the front as he threw his body in the way of his goalbound shot. Following a slow start to the half by both sides, Hunt injected life into the proceedings with back-to-back incisive runs down the right flank before Rotherham brought the AESSEAL New York Stadium to its feet by breaking the deadlock on 57 minutes. After Frecklington was tackled on halfway, a long punt upfield was only half cleared by the retreating Owls defence and the ball fell invitingly for Pringle on the edge of the box and the Millers playmaker swung a sweet left-footed effort which Owls skipper Tom Lees attempted to clear but he could only
deflect the ball into the bottom corner, wrongfooting Westwood in the process, who vainly attempted to keep the ball out of the net. The Millers were lifted by the strike and there looked little danger when Hunt picked up possession on the right hand side but he showed the Owls defence a clean pair of heels as he jetted away and after bulldozing his way through some half-hearted tackling from the visitors, he struck a fierce leftfooted effort which grazed the visitors bar. In a rare attack by the visitors, Helan worked a yard of space on the left flank to float a centre which saw sub Caolan Lavery rise highest at the far stick but his header lacked power as it fell into the grateful hands of Martinez. With 20 minutes to go, Hunt was again the provider as his deep cross found Derbyshire, who controlled smartly before firing an instinctive volley which whistled past the upright with Westwood a helpless bystander. There was a moment of controversy when Morgan was harshly adjudged to have hauled over Lavery on the edge of the box, which saw the home skipper booked in the process, but Wednesday squandered the opportunity from the resultant free-kick when Dielna fired into the home wall. Minutes later, Sammon screwed an effort into the side netting before sub Stevie May almost came to haunt his former suitors with a low drive which flew narrowly wide at the other end. With time running out for the visitors, McGugan got the better of Derbyshire near the touchline before clipping a centre which bisected the home defence and Lavery nipped in to power a header into the home goal. However, the Millers bounced back immediately to regain the lead from their next attack when a long ball found Bowery, who had beat the offside trap and the ex-Villa striker kept his cool to cut inside Dielna, before firing an effort which Westwood seemed to get a hand to but it dribbled into the bottom corner to send the home fans wild. With seven minutes of injury time declared, the Owls broke Millers’ hearts when Hunt gave away a needless free-kick near the touchline and Stuart Gray’s men made them pay when McGugan swung a fantastic free-kick into the danger area and Atdhe Nuhiu ghosted in to power a header into the roof of the home net. With the full time whistle approaching, the Owls snatched victory when Nuhiu’s clever flick on saw Lee control smartly before racing away from the home rearguard and with just Martinez to beat, he kept his nerve to calmly slide the ball past the advancing ‘keeper.
lengthy talking to from the referee and Dickov decided he should be replaced by Forrester. After soaking up a spell of pressure Rovers front two linked up well, Main laying off the ball to Tyson inside the area, looking to curl the ball inside the far post but his effort went just the wrong side of the upright. The game turned feisty after a penalty shout was turned down on the half hour mark Main on the receiving end of a challenge just inside the area. Tackles continued to fly in from both sets of players lifting the atmosphere as Rovers looked to equalise before the break. The Sky Blues captain O’Brien, on a booking, hacked down Forrester on the run from central midfield. The referee decided to award a free kick but no second yellow much to the dismay of the Rovers faithful. Main & Forrester were the latest in a string of Rovers players to have a shot blocked from distance but Burge remained untroubled in the Sky Blues goal during stoppage time as the first half came to a close. Rovers were looking for a quick response as they kicked off in the second half. A minute in Forrester cut the ball back across the six yard area but Burge in the Coventry goal pounced on the ball before it reached Main closing in at the back post. On forty-eight minutes a corner for Rovers came out to Forrester on the eighteen yard area, his powerful shot took a big deflection sending the ball looping over the crossbar. Keeping the pressure on the host five minutes into the second half WELLENS picked the ball up on the edge of the area advancing on goal, smashes it past
Burge from 8 yards out to level things. Celebrations were muted as the goal scorer received a knock whilst scoring and remained on the ground in pain requiring treatment but was deemed ok to continue. Two minutes after the hour mark, the patience build up ended when Forrester cut inside and looked to bend a shot into the top corner, the substitute didn’t connect well enough allowing Burge to claim the ball easily. The visitors enjoyed most of the possession since the equaliser but the pace significantly dropped. On seventy one minutes CLARKE-HARRIS showed great skill to shoot inside the area, his initial effort was saved by Burge but he could only parry it back into the path of the substitute who slotted it home to give the visitors the lead. It was his first goal in a Rovers shirt and during celebrations that shirt was removed and the goal scorer was subsequently booked for doing so. Into the final seven minutes and Main takes on the full back Stokes down the right hand side, he does well to cut the ball back into the six yard area where FORRESTER slots it through the defenders legs to give Rovers a two goal lead. Four minutes added time were shown, allowing time for Fleck in a central position to test Bywater from twenty yards out, the Rovers keeper was equal to it. Rovers saw out the rest of added time without incident and when the referee blew for full time the Rovers faithful erupted as Rovers come back from a goal down to win it and return to winning ways .

MERCURY SPORT - SHEFFIELD UNITED
BLADES NEWS2014/15 NEW KIT & THREE POINTS The Blades recorded a victory and a clean sheet on a day when the 2015-16 home kit was launched and worn for the first time. Jose Baxter scored the all-important goal, a first half penalty after Port Vale skipper Michael O’Connor fouled Jamie Murphy. Jason Holt made his full home Blades debut and former favourite Michael Brown was sent off late on. Howard captained the Blades as boss Clough made three changes. McEveley and Reed missed out through injury, whilst Doyle dropped to the bench. Basham returned after suspension to start, whilst Coutts and Steve Davies were recalled. Vale, managed by former United skipper Rob Page, included ex Blades Robertson and Brown.
United were the more positive early on, Harris fired over with a first time effort and a Baxter free-kick was deflected over. A challenge from Davies also put Vale goalkeeper Neal under pressure. Brown was the first in the referee’s book, he was punished for a 17th minute lunge on Freeman, and United’s fine start continued. A great run and cross by Coutts saw Davies miskick and Murphy was causing problems for his marker, Yates. Vale’s two ex Blades combined to create their first chance of the game, on 22 minutes. A Brown free-kick saw Robertson win the header but Howard saved. United’s goalkeeper also kept out a deflected effort from Brown before the home side opened the scoring. Davies went close
CLOUGH DELIGHTED AT HOME WIN Nigel Clough was understandably delighted with Saturday’s win over Port Vale at Bramall Lane. Jose Baxter’s first-half penalty settled the contest in United’s
favour and given results elsewhere, Clough acknowledged the importance of returning to winning ways as the Blades look to strengthen their grip on a play-off spot. Reflecting on a hard
with a long-range shot from wide on the right minutes before referee Simpson spotted O’Connor’s high tackle on Murphy in the box, immediately pointing to the penalty spot. BAXTER took responsibility for the spot-kick and drilled past Neal. Blades fans - and stadium announcer Gary Sinclair - thought a second had been recorded three minutes later following another impressive move. Harris played a long, diagonal ball for Baxter to deliver into the box first time and Davies did the rest, but he was adjudged offside when he put the ball into the back of the net. Coutts was booked for a cynical challenge on Moore and Basham was also shown a yellow card, ironically for a
foul on Brown. Late in the half, Vale’s final opportunity before the break saw Coutts make a timely challenge in the box. Vale made a double substitution at the break and there was a lively start to the second period, with opportunities at both ends. Dodds and Done had half chances before a long-range shot from O’Connor was tipped over by Howard, who then had to be on his toes to keep out Marshall’s near post corner. For United, from a quick free-kick, Coutts fired just wide. The flow of chances dried up until 64 minutes when United almost added a second on the break. From Howard’s throw, Murphy went on a mazy run but, following his pull-back, a shot from Davies was at Neal.
fought three points, the Gaffer remarked: “It wasn’t a brilliant game and we weren’t sparking but the clean sheet was crucial and it was probably our biggest three points of the season in the circumstances. “We started the game as we had hoped and for half an hour we were very good and could have easily been more
than one goal in front, although Port Vale had their moments. “At half-time, Tom Pope came on and they went more direct, but Basham and Brayford dealt with him brilliantly. “We were a bit nervy, the crowd were too, there was a lot at stake and we knew the importance of keeping a clean sheet and thankfully we did.” Clough added: “It was a game with a lot a fouls in it, although nothing too bad at all really, the worst challenge was for the penalty, which was absolutely blatant. “We still made the wrong decisions at crucial times offensively as we looked for that game clinching second goal, non more so than when Kieron Freeman tried to put the ball on a plate for someone to tap in when he should have shot hard and low into the corner in the second-half. “But that will come with confidence and the three points are all that mattered on the day.”
Flynn took over from Done and Vale completed their substitution quota on 68 minutes, whilst the crowd wanted Freeman to shoot when he found himself clear on the right, rather than trying to deliver into the box. For the visitors, Veseli’s overhead kick from the edge of the box was over and Daniel could not find the target when he was afforded the space to run at the Blades defence. As the last ten minutes approached Doyle took over from Baxter. The game became frantic but Davies was impressive, he was involved in a move on 84 minutes which saw Flynn lay
off and Murphy shoot but Neal gathered at the second attempt. There was a nervous moment on 86 minutes when Howard slid out of the box when gathering the ball but he let go at the right time and then cleared. The officials announced four added minutes but the later stages were not without incident. Davies almost converted a Coutts cross and ex Lane favourite Brown was sent off for a second bookable offence, catching Flynn from behind. Alcock replaced the tiring Holt but United professionally saw out the final minutes to record a welcome victory in the first of three home games in the space of seven days.

OWLS NEWS2014/15 OWLS LEAVE IT LATE BUT LEE WINS LOCAL BRAGGING RIGHTS Rotherham and Wednesday played out a dramatic derby encounter that ended with four goals in seven minutes to seal an incredible win for the Owls. Ben Pringle struck what looked set to be the only goal of the game in a second half the hosts edged, albeit with the aid of a deflection. But an already exciting contest exploded into life at the death and the Owls emerged triumphant. Wednesday equalised with four minutes to go through Caolan Lavery – only for Millers substitute Jordan Bowery to score with his first touch just 30 seconds later to swing
the pendulum back in the Millers’ favour. Then, Atdhe Nuhiu headed home to grab what seemed would be a point before, amazingly, Kieran Lee slotted a winner in added time. There were two talking points before a ball was even kicked at The New York Stadium as the Owls lost Kamil Zayatte to a hamstring injury in the warm-up before the start was delayed due to a pyrotechnic incident in the home area. And there was almost a third just four minutes in when Claude Dielna had his pocket picked 25 yards out and Matt Derbyshire advanced on goal but Keiren Westwood stood tall to
parry clear. Wednesday found their rhythm, though, and Lewis McGugan brought a fine save from exSWFC loanee Damian Martinez, who dived low to save and make an instant impression for his new temporary employers. The hosts then had the ball in the net midway through the first half as Westwood deflected into his own goal under pressure but play was pulled back for an infringement. Wednesday powered upfield in an instant and after McGugan fed Joe Mattock with a sublime pass, the ball was centred low for Lee, whose shot was blocked on the line by Danny Lafferty. A topsy-turvy opening 45 saw play go straight to the other end, where Westwood spectacularly diverted a Derbyshire header from a Pringle corner. The second half showed no signs of letting up, with the Millers out of the traps the quickest. Wednesday struggled to get out of their own half and went one down on 57 minutes.
Pringle drove a low shot on goal but the ball took a wicked deflection off Tom Lees that wrongfooted Westwood, who was powerless to keep it out. The strike gave Rotherham a visible boost and Jack Hunt went close just past the hour after embarking on a mazy run that ended with a vicious effort that whistled over. Wednesday did threaten on the counter and
substitute Stevie May drilled hard but wide ten minutes from the end. Rotherham defended deep in the closing stages, inviting Wednesday pressure, and the visitors duly took advantage to set up the grandstand finish. McGugan did well down the right and delivered an accurate ball into the mix for substitute Lavery to nod home, but with Wednesday fans still celebrating, Millers
substitute Bowery went one better and drilled into the net from close range to put the hosts back in charge. With the game heading into stoppage time, McGugan this time found the head of Nuhiu from a free kick to haul the Owls level for the second time and then right at the death, Lee took a clever feed from May into his stride before calmly sidefooting in the winner.
GRAY PRAISES TEAM & SUBS
Stuart Gray reflected on an incredible afternoon at Rotherham that saw Wednesday edge the Millers by the odd goal in five. The Owls twice came from behind to snatch a last-gasp winner and Gray underlined the football adage of playing until the last kick. Gray said: “It was an amazing game and I’ve just said to the players how important it is to play all the way to the end. “We conceded with the last kick of the game against Millwall earlier in the season and that is not a pleasant feeling. “It shows that while ever there is a chance, you play to that whistle and go for it. “When I saw the seven minutes of added time go up, I knew we had a chance and thankfully we took it.” Stuart Gray hailed the impact of all three of
his substitutes following the stunning win at Rotherham on Saturday. The Owls’ head coach sent on Caolan Lavery, Stevie May and Chris Maguire, all of whom played key roles as Wednesday twice came from behind to snatch an incredible victory. Gray said: “I knew before the game that the substitutes would have an impact today because of the way Rotherham play. “Whether it was chasing the game or whether we were

winning, I said to the substitutes ‘make sure you are ready’ and make a mark when you come on. “All three did that and I’m delighted for those lads and all of the team. “I think maybe it effected Rotherham psychologically and gave us the edge at a time when we needed it. “They gave us a spark and credit to them. “I have always said that games can often be decided by the team that finishes a game and not the one that starts it.”
