WIN A PAIR OF WEEKEND TICKETS TO THIS YEAR’S TRAMLINES FESTIVAL A couple of weeks ago Tramlines revealed what was supposed to be their final lineup for this year’s festival including Neneh Cherry, Anathema, We Are The Ocean, Roni Size, Mr Scruff, Horse Meat Disco, Camo & Krooked, Loadstar, Monki + more. However last week they announce yet another crop of acts performing this July including Fat White Family alongside Hooten Tennis Club, Tuff Love, Sotry, Man of Moon and Sheffield starlets High Hazels plus several acts were added to the Dance line-up. Tramlines is one of the UK’s biggest inner-city festivals where, for one weekend, 100,000 people descend upon Sheffield to turn the city centre into one huge festival site. Now in its seventh year, Tramlines continues to bring genre-spanning legendary acts alongside breaking new talent to its stages. Headliners for 2015 include The Charlatans, Basement Jaxx, and Wu Tang Clan, with support from the likes of Billy Bragg, Buzzcocks, Martha Reeves and Sugarhill Gang. The festival will open on the Thursday night at the iconic Leadmill with a pre-party from Ninja Tuna founder Mr Scruff, who’ll bring his eclectic bigbeat sounds to the dancefloor. Further topping up the 2015 lineup is a speakershaking electronic bill including Hospital Records’ Camo & Krooked and liquid drum & bass duo Fred V & Grafix, garage DJ and remix extraordinaire DJ Q, Radio 1xtra’s Monki, bass music stars Joker & New York Transit Authority, Ram Records’ Loadstar, Rinse FM DJs Mak & Pasteman, Sub Focus’ front

man MC ID and Hypercolour’s Tom Demac. Festival Director Sarah Nulty said: “Each year we aim to top the lineup of the year before and I think we’ve done it - the blend of established acts versus upcoming talent plus local versus international is huge! Not to mention the fact there’s something on offer to appeal to all manner of music fans at Tramlines, from rock to jazz and electronic to indie.”. The final acts join the already announced electronic bill featuring Roman Flugel, Erol Alkan, Gilles Peterson, James Holden, Evian Christ and A Guy Called Gerald, and a ton of breaking acts including Slaves, Lonelady, Dutch Uncles, Marika Hackman, Kate Tempest and hundreds more. With a plethora of spaces to explore, from the stunning Sheffield Cathedral to intimate and noisy rock venues, live street entertainment, independent food markets and the added bonus of no mud and no camping, Tramlines is one of the UK’s most varied city-centre festivals. Weekend tickets can be purchased from www. tramlines.org.uk for only £30 + bf, which makes Tramlines one of the best value festivals around. For up-to-the-minute information about Tramlines 2015, visit www.tramlines.org.uk or follow Tramlines on Twitter @tramlines

COMPETITION To be in with a chance of winning a pair of weekend tickets to this year’s Tramlines Festival simply answer this following question and send your entry with a daytime telephone number to info@mercurynewspaper.co.uk before Fri 12th June.

In previous years the festival has seen the likes of Reverend & the Makers, Paul Heaton, Bad Manners, Neville Staple, The Twang, The Farm, Lucy Spraggan and The Beautiful South adorn its stages. This year’s headliner is The Selecter, famous for their timeless SKA music and 2013 Tramlines headliners. Great support comes in the form of Doctor & the Medics, Chris Helme (The Seahorses), Missing Andy and top Birmingham based outfit Marquis Drive who do a covers indie set from the likes of The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Oasis and

Pulp. Two bands also playing are making big noises at the moment are Midlands based The Assist and Scunthorpe’s Dirty Sterling. Top SKA based band Jungle Lion are also on the bill. We have Doncaster’s finest band in The 48K’s. Local lady Jade Hewitt is also on the bill after brilliant performance ion TV’s The Voice show which saw her picked by

team Ricky. We also add diversity to the festival in the shape of local professional busker James Anthony Lamb. Couple all these great acts with some of Sheffield’s best up and coming bands which includes The Sherlocks, The SSS, The Monday Club, The Starkins and The Carousel, Mosborough really has a top quality line up. This year’s chosen charity is

SISTERS JUMP AT THE CHANCE TO SUPPORT CANCER CHARITY Two sisters from Sheffield are jumping from a plane in June to raise vital funds for Weston Park Hospital. Mother and grandma, Jo Chapman (57) from Stannington has vowed to embark on the UK’s highest tandem skydive this summer alongside her older sister, Kay. Jo and Kay will be amongst a group of brave jumpers taking on the 15,000ft free-fall dive on the 14th June, all hoping to raise much needed sponsorship for the cancer charity. For the first time ever, the cancer charity has organised a dedicated jump day, where supporters wanting to take to the skies and raise money can do so together on the 14th June at Hibalstow, Lincolnshire. Other dates are available for those who are unable to make the jump day. In 2013, keen dancer, Jo embarked on a health and fitness drive and promised to get moving more in a bid to lose weight. As well as regular trips to the gym, Jo found a love of belly dancing and took part in several dance events as part of a dance group she

formed in 2007. But in 2014, whilst her fitness drive was going from strength to strength, Jo began to feel unwell after finding a lump under her left armpit. She was sent for a biopsy and within days she received the unexpected diagnosis of B-cell Lymphoma. Lymphoma is a blood cancer, which appears as a solid tumour most commonly in the lymph nodes of the neck, chest, armpit or groin. B-Cell lymphoma is the most common sub type of Non Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which is the 6th most common cancer type in the UK. “It came as a complete shock.” Said Jo, “It was definitely difficult for me and my family to come to terms with the reality of living with a cancer diagnosis.” Jo began receiving chemotherapy treatment and was offered to take part in a clinical trial which she happily agreed to. Jo continued, “It was a no brainer for me to be involved in a clinical trial and help shape the future of treatment for patients facing a cancer diagnosis in the future.”

“In the midst of all the turmoil and apprehension it was actually my family who were affected the most as they felt completely helpless.” Although still receiving treatment at the Hallamshire Hospital, Jo, who is afraid of heights, decided to set herself a challenge to help support the vital work of Weston Park Hospital and has already raised over £1,000. “I decided to take on a skydive as it was something which would really push me to my limits whilst raising much needed sponsorship for Weston Park Hospital’s dedicated charity.” The cancer charity needs to raise over £1.8 million this year to enable the funding of committed and new projects that will keep Weston Park Hospital at the forefront of cancer treatment. Charity Fundraiser, Sarah Cross said, “We are extremely grateful to Jo and her sister for taking to the skies for the Big Jump and helping to raise vital funds for their local cancer hospital. It’s set to be an exciting day with all our supporters jumping together!”

SHEFFIELD THEATRES SEARCHES FOR LOCAL PANTO TALENT Sheffield Theatres and Evolution Pantomimes are searching the Junior Ensemble to perform in their production of Aladdin, this year’s spectacular family pantomime at the Lyceum Theatre from Friday 4 December 2015 to Sunday 3 January 2016. The young ensemble will perform in Aladdin alongside Sheffield’s favourite Dame, Damian Williams and an all-star cast, soon to be announced. A great opportunity for those interested in performing, auditions are open to girls aged between 8 – 15 and will take place on Sunday 14 June at the Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield. Registration will take place from 2.00pm, with the auditions expected to run for approximately 3 hours. Auditionees should arrive at the main entrance of the Lyceum Theatre in Tudor Square with a parent and must bring a completed application form with them, available to download from sheffieldtheatres.co.uk.

During the audition, participants will be taught a dance routine, so are asked to wear comfortable clothes and soft/dance shoes and bring bottled drinking water. Girls who wish to audition must be between the ages of 8 - 15 years by Monday 31 August 2015. Successful auditionees must be available throughout the entire rehearsal and production period from Saturday 14 November 2015 - Sunday 3 January 2016. Aladdin, is the ninth pantomime that Sheffield Theatres will co-produce with Evolution Pantomimes and follows on from last years’ hugely successful production of Dick Whittington. Auditions for the junior ensemble take place on Sunday 14 June at the Lyceum Theatre from 2.00pm. For more details and to download an application form, visit sheffieldtheatres.co.uk Tickets for Aladdin are on sale now, priced from £12.00 - £25.00 and can be purchased from Sheffield Theatres’ Box Office in person, by calling 0114 249 6000, and online at sheffieldtheatres. co.uk. A transaction fee of £1.50 (£1.00 online) applies to all bookings made at the Box Office, excluding cash.

DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL 2015 PREVIEW

If you have any news, reviews or events you would like featuring please email info@mercurynewspaper.co.uk

Download Festival Preview By Kt Evans

If you are a dedicated reader of M-Live, we’re pretty sure you’ll realise just how excited we are for Download Festival 2015. Although this year we are stepping up processions by hiring a campervan for the weekend (fancy ey!) we simply cannot wait to plunge ourselves into one of the best live events on the entire summer calendar. Held from 12th – 14th June at Donnington Park, East Midlands, to make life that little bit easier for you, M-Live have collated our top picks for the weekend…call us your fairy rock-mother!!! What do we love so much at Download Festival? It’s a question we often get asked…with a very simple answer – the music! With headliners this year as Slipknot, Muse and the mighty Kiss, when is it ever possible to witness such an iconic international lineup so close to home? Download. Having being voted one of the best live festivals this country has to offer, twelve years in and the event is stronger and more prolific than ever before. This year, the festival sold out in a matter of days – pretty admirable work to say that there was over 120,000 tickets up for grabs, once again certifying Download as the ultimate rockers mecca. So to those who have themselves

Muse headline Saturday Night

a golden ticket, or you simply enjoy following the action on social media, we salute you. Kicking processions off on the very first day of Download, Friday 12th will see All That Remains open the main stage at 1.00pm. This American heavy metal band formed in 2000 and have a lengthy catalogue of seven studio albums under their belt. Fierce, fiery and no doubt the perfect opener to a weekend of musical madness, make sure you arrive at the festival in plenty of time to catch these hugely anticipated metal heads. Modestep on the Encore Stage are set to perform at 4.50pm on Friday 12th, whilst the multimillion selling group Five Finger Death Punch rip the main stage open at 5.50pm. Expect the unexpected from these US performers who have taken to the stage at Download on a number of occasions (2008, 2010 and 2013). However, the first night of festival action belongs solely to the headlining act…may we present to you; Slipknot! A heavy metal band who need absolutely no introduction, Slipknot are the ultimate masters of their craft. Forming in 2005, this brotherhood are Grammy winners, not to mention international icons across the globe. With five mega studio albums to their name, the group’s latest release “:5: The Gray Chapter” was a touching tribute to their fallen soldier, Paul Gray who tragically lost his life in May 2010. With their rollercoaster career aiding the bands emotively powerful live stage performance, Slipknot will forever remain as the Godfathers of heavy metal. And Download is lucky enough to have them

23

If you have any news, reviews, releases/events you’d like us to cover please forward details to info@mercurynewspaper.co.uk headlining! Taking to the stage at 9.50pm on Friday 12th June, buckle up for one of the most anticipated performances of the entire three day extravaganza. To day two – your heads may be heavy from one too many shots of Jager the night before, however power through at Saturday 13th once again looks to be an absolute cracker. Kicking the main stage into action will be Heart Of A Coward at 11.00am. Having relentlessly performed on the hardcore music scene for the past six years, we can think of no other group more deserved of their main stage slot. Their 2013 studio album, “Severance” was an almighty kick in the hardcore teeth, with tracks “Deadweight,” “Prey” and “Monstro” forming what is fondly known as the groups most prolific album to date. Mallory Knox are also set to perform on the main stage at 12.50pm. With hits to include “Lighthouse,” “Hello” and “Shout To The Moon,” this Southern alternative pack have gained global success through their endless touring and ridiculously catchy repertoire. 7.40pm on the Encore stage shall see Hollywood’s very own Black Veil Brides. It would be difficult for us to count quite how many BVB tattoos we’ve seen (at a guess…100?) safeguarding these rockers as a force to be reckoned with. Their fan group (BVB Army) is about as dedicated as any fan group…well, ever, ensuring an absurdly heaving audience when they perform on Saturday 13th. To Sunday 14th…having not showered for an obscene amount of days, along with eating our body weight in pringles and cereal bars, like a true trooper we power on to see through Download 2015. Along with the likes of Eagles Of Death Metal, Slash, Lamb Of God and Enter Shikari, the festival’s final

day belongs to no other than Kiss. Gracing us with their presence at 9.05pm, if we knew what to expect from these absolute legends, we wouldn’t be so God damn nervous! No doubt a once in a life time opportunity to witness the ultimate Kings of rock, Kiss; we simply cannot wait! Download Festival is held from 12th – 14th June 2015 at Donnington Park. See the website, www. downloadfestival.co.uk for all the info.

Angler’s Corner with Clint Walker

A mad week this time, plenty going on at the new GOOutdoors concept store in Stoke-on-Trent, and I’ve managed to wet a line too! Thursday saw the Grand Opening of the GO-Fishing concept store within GO-Outdoors in Stoke. It’s a new venture designed to overhaul the way in which this particular retail giant deal with their angling customers, and one which has received extremely positive feedback so far. The store has been running for around three weeks, glitches have been rectified, changes have been made, and it’s now functioning smoothly. I know I’ve probably rattled on about GO-Fishing quite a lot recently, but it really does excite me, and I’m very proud to be involved! There are still things to be learned though, and customer feedback has been gratefully accepted as the concession evolves into something special. The opening event saw dozens of visitors taking advantage of some super deals (maggots £1 a pint anyone?) and the opportunity to share ideas with top level anglers such as World Champion Sean Ashby and Garbolino ace Darren Cox, and talk bait with Marukyu bait guru Roy Marlow before enjoying a charity auction to dispose of lots donated by Shimano, Middy, Daiwa and other top brands; the angler who purchased a £700 seat box for just £180 looked exceptionally pleased with himself! Free beer on tap and local delicacies (the humble cheesy oatcake) were wolfed down by our guests and the event finally ended at 8pm, leaving staff shattered! I must pass on a vote of gratitude to staff from Stoke and other branches who were drafted in to assist, they all did a fantastic job, and the gig ran like clockwork; well done all! So, on the bank, I managed a few hours on a local club water which contains some much sought after carp which hold a lovely dark sheen, and have deep shoulders, which make them particularly attractive fish. Unfortunately, the lake doesn’t give them up too often, and an abundance of lilies, reeds, weed and other flora result in a huge amount of natural food and it can prove difficult to get a bite. As ever, I’d spent an hour walking around trying to spot fish, but in the complete absence of any signs, I decided to set up in a bay that I knew would soon be subjected to bright,

warming sunlight as the morning progressed. After depositing a small amount of Mainline bloodworm pellets over a silty area less than a rod length out to my left, I dropped my rig over the top, and proceeded to do exactly the same on the right of the swim. Both of my rigs were tied with my favoured Vardis Tackle components (easy to use, strong, sharp, and do the job) and comprised a short length of Downfall coated braid with a chod hook tied as a Multi-Rig. By the time I’d finished, I could see both baits sitting perfectly, popped up over bottom debris and squarely in the middle of my free offerings, and my rod tips were still further out than the baits were! As the morning evolved, a few carp started to enter the bay as expected, and I considered changing to a zig rig as most of them were up in the water enjoying the sunshine. As I stood to rig a third rod, I noticed that the surrounding reeds were being forcefully moved as something moved across my baited patch, and quickly sat back down out of view to avoid disturbing the oncoming fish. This lake is home to plenty of pike, which had been merrily smashing shoals of juvenile roach all morning from the cover of the reeds, but as I watched, a golden flank shone underwater and I recognised one of the carpy inhabitants! As the fish hovered inches from the bottom, silt escaped the gill plates as the carp hoovered up the pellets, and disturbed the lake bed in the quest for more nibbles; it cautiously approached my bait, and as I watched, the bright orangey pink Banoffee boilie suddenly shot inside its mouth and a moment of ‘oops’ followed as the fish realised all was not well….. Slack lines and heavy leads meant the hook point had gone home however, and the carp suddenly bolted out into open water from where it was eventually played to the waiting net! Peeling back the wet folds of the net, a scraper double lay glistening in the sunshine, gloriously golden flanks gleaming and fins quivering. It was in perfect condition, a fish I was very happy to catch and just reward for careful consideration… I’d enjoyed a lovely day, hand feeding a sprightly robin with maggots, sharing my sandwiches with a chocolate brown mouse, and watching kingfishers and herons share my bankside from within my reedy abode…perfect, and just what fishing should be about!

OWLS UNVEIL NEW HOME KIT Sheffield Wednesday can reveal the team’s brand new home strip for the 2015/16 campaign. The shirt maintains the Owls’ historical blue and white stripes and incorporates the family name of chairman Dejphon Chansiri as main sponsor. In association with kit manufacturer partners Sondico, the shirt is dynamic, stylish and traditional, housing a three-button placket and popular WAWAW on the collar reverse. In line with all major sporting brands, the shirt is 100% polyester and uses the very latest Optivent technology with a tailored fit for enhanced performance and comfort. Black shorts with white panelling are reintroduced following extensive supporter research and feedback and the white socks have an Owl logo woven into the fabric. The full strip is available in all adult and junior sizes, together with a full range of ladies’ shirts and infant kits, for pre-order at midday today before the first sale date of Friday 12 June.
