A cancer patient from Matlock who relied on a charity transport service to get him to and from life-saving appointments at Weston Park Hospital is now volunteering to ensure others can benefit from the same support. Former Police Sergeant, Stewart Exton (68) decided to volunteer for the Nenna Kind Centre in Chesterfield after seeing first-hand its benefits when being treated for cancer. Stewart Exton was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2013 and in addition to the stress and turmoil caused by his diagnosis; Stewart also had the added worry of getting to and from Weston Park Hospital throughout treatment. “Many people across our region are unaware that if ever they are diagnosed with cancer, they would need to travel to Weston Park Hospital to receive the specialist treatment they require. The hospital is home to the only Radiotherapy Department in South Yorkshire and therefore patients are often required to travel to and from Sheffield for weeks at a time.” “In total, I made 41 trips to and from the hospital and without the Nenna Kind Bus Service, which is supported by Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, it would have been very difficult for me to attend my appointments in a timely and cost effective way.” “Cancer is hard enough to come to terms with, but I was ever so grateful that getting to and from my appointments was one less worry on my mind throughout treatment.” “The staff at Weston Park Hospital do an absolutely brilliant job and although I’m now thankfully in recovery, I do miss my daily trips with fellow patients over to Sheffield!” The Nenna Kind Cancer Support Centre based in Chesterfield is a charity support centre which was set up in 2010 by husband and wife, David and Barbara Wallace after both their daughters were diagnosed with cancer. Sadly, after fighting bladder cancer, the couple’s daughter Helen passed away at the age of 43 in 2011 prompting Barbara and David to offer a support service for patients in Chesterfield and beyond. The Nenna Kind Centre offers a place for cancer patients, their families and friends to call in and have a chat to one of their volunteers and as well as accessing a range of therapies. “Just 5 years ago we lost 1 of our beloved daughters to cancer.” Said David, “But we wanted to turn something so negative into a

positive and help other patients at a time of need.” “We started off in a small room in the market hall in the centre of Chesterfield offering therapies and a drop-in service for anyone affected by cancer in the area.” “We never thought that five years on we would have grown so much and be offering a wide range of services including a transport bus to ease the long and often costly journey many cancer patients have to make when receiving treatment at Weston Park Hospital.” “The bus service would simply not be possible without funding from Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, public support and the dedication of our team of volunteers.” Last year, The Nenna Kind Transport service made over 1100 journeys from Chesterfield to Weston Park Hospital and back, for just £5 each for a return journey. Nenna Kind receives vital funding from Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity each year to ensure that the bus service can continue. Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity is the dedicated charity for Weston Park Hospital and exists to support patients and their families across the region living with a cancer diagnosis. The charity needs to raise £2million this year to fund vital projects within the hospital and improve the lives of

cancer patients across Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley and North Derbyshire. Stewart, who now volunteers his time at the Nenna Kind Centre on a weekly basis says he enjoys giving something back to the service which helped him through his own treatment. “I am in total awe of Barbara and David for all the hard work they’ve put into Nenna Kind to make it such a worthy and recognised service for cancer patients within Chesterfield and further afield.” “Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity’s funding is incredibly important and ensures that the service can continue to expand and accommodate for the expected increase in cancer patients. Charity Fundraising Manager, Helen Gentle said, “The cancer charity is proud to continue providing funding for the

CHANGES TO STATE PENSIONS AGE BETTER IN The State Pension age is increasing for women. It’s rising to 65 between 2010 and 2018 when it will be the same as state pension age for a man. It will then increase in stages alongside men, until it has reached 68.You can go online to ﬁnd out when you will reach state pension age: www.gov.uk/state-pension-age There is now a single tier state pension currently set at £155.65. If you are already entitled to a higher amount through past National Insurance contributions your increased amount will still be paid. MY CAR CHECK REVEALS VEHICLE MAKES MOST LIKELY TO HAVE WRITE-OFF, FINANCE AND STOLEN WARNINGS Based on My Car Check’s 2015 search data, and the results of a February 2016 survey of 649 My Car Check customers, it names the vehicle manufacturers most likely to have write-off, ﬁnance and stolen warnings against them, along with a wealth of other statistics on the decisions and dangers facing UK used vehicle buyers.

Head of My Car Check, Roger Powell, said: “Almost half of all vehicles we checked in 2015 had at least one warning against them – an advisory warning, such as a registration plate transfer or colour change, or a serious warning, such as a stolen, finance or write-off alert. Of the 7.2 million used cars sold in the UK last year, how many buyers would have gone ahead with their purchase at the agreed price if they had conducted a provenance check and made themselves aware of these issues? “Buying a car is a big deal. For the price of a few litres of fuel you can access vital facts and figures the seller might not know, or not want to tell you. Our checks frequently save people from making costly used car mistakes. However, it is important to note that 54% of our checks come back clear. More often than not, we give buyers confidence that they’re making the right decision. This report, Making Better Used Car Choices, will help more consumers to end up with cars they love.” Land Rover Land Rover was the manufacturer with the highest percentage of warnings against it overall, with 65.75% of Land Rover vehicles checked by My Car Check in 2015 having at least one warning against them. Land Rover was also the make most likely to be stolen, with 0.32% of all Land Rovers checked by My Car Check in 2015 showing as stolen on the police register. Gavin Amos, Head of Valuation Services at My Car Check, said: “Land Rover has some of the most desirable vehicles around, so it is no surprise that thieves go after them. Their position isn’t helped by the Defender becoming such an icon. This classic model has remained largely unchanged for half a century. The fact that it has just gone out of production has only

served to boost its popularity and, in modern terms, Defenders are soft targets for criminals. Land Rover also offers some very attractive new car ﬁnance packages, so outstanding ﬁnance warnings are another contributory factor to its unwanted position at the top of the warnings table. On the up side, it had by far the lowest write-off percentage of any manufacturer, just 12.05%.”

Audi Audi had the highest percentage of finance debt warnings of any manufacturer with 11.78% of all Audi vehicles checked in 2015 showing a potential outstanding finance issue. Gavin Amos, Head of Valuation Services at My Car Check, said: “The fact that used Audi vehicles are most likely to have finance debt is a backhanded compliment to their astonishingly successful new car finance packages. Unfortunately, there remains a serious lack of awareness about the risk of buying a second hand car with outstanding finance. Under the increasingly popular Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) agreements, the debt is usually secured against the vehicle, rather than the individual. A quarter of all cars on our roads actually belong to a finance company, not the people who drive them. Selling a vehicle owned by a finance company, sub-hiring, is illegal but very common. Whether the seller knows this or not, the crux for buyers is that the finance company can be within their rights to seize the vehicle back. Sheffield is the real ale capital of the world according to a new report commissioned by the University of Sheffield A Snapshot of the Beer Industry in the Sheffield City Region, written by internationally recognised beer writer Pete Brown, found that the Sheffield City Region3 has a booming beer trade of 57 breweries, 31 of which have opened in the last five years alone. Forty per cent (23) are within the city of Sheffield itself which the report says: ‘makes Sheffield a significant brewing city by any measure’. The study found the city of Sheffield has one brewery for every 23,991 people and the Sheffield City Region has one brewery for every 32,142 people. Compared to Greater London (one brewery for every 112,355), Sheffield has 4.7 times as many breweries per capita as the UK’s capital city. What’s more, while growth has peaked in other cities, the number of breweries opening their doors in Sheffield is accelerating and could soon surpass its mid-19th Century peak. The report also commented on the wide array of beers available, with every Sheffield brewer brewing an average of five beers on a permanent basis and around 11 seasonal, occasional or oneoff beers every year. This means 1,000 different beers are produced by Sheffield’s

brewers every year. “With such a dynamic brewing sector, in the middle of a global boom in interest in well-made, flavourful beer, we should expect Sheffield to have a national or even international reputation as a premier beer city,” says the report. “And yet it doesn’t.” Sheffield has always had a proud history of beer. Small but numerous breweries formed during the industrial revolution, providing refreshment to men in factories, forges and furnaces. The report, which is based on data and interviews with brewers, publicans, retailers and others close to the beer scene in Sheffield, calls on the city to promote its beer and pub scene and compete for the title of the world’s greatest beer city. “Sheffield having pioneered the beer revolution now taking place across Britain – is in danger of being eclipsed in other cities, especially in the realm of craft beer,” says the report’s author, Pete Brown. The report said there was a ‘significant gap’ between the reality of how strong and vibrant the beer scene is in Sheffield, and the perception and promotion of it. Professor Vanessa Toulmin, Director of City and Cultural Engagement at the University of Sheffield, said: “Sheffield

has always been a city of makers - and it’s no surprise that this extends to beer too. It's great that we love our beer so much, but most of it stays in the city region, so people outside Sheffield don’t get to hear about it. A joint investment in a canning and bottling facility, as the report recommends, would bring Sheffield beer to a much wider audience.” Beer tourism is big business and already contributes significantly to Sheffield’s economy. According to Andy Cullen, Chairman of Sheffield & District CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale), beer tourists visiting the city’s pubs and festivals already generate more income to the

region than the annual two-week World Snooker Championships at the Crucible Theatre. The report points out that most of Sheffield’s brewers operate on a small scale - much like the ‘Little Mesters’ craftsmen of old. Joint investment in both physical facilities and a dedicated online resource, linked to from any Sheffield tourism site, would allow brewers to sell further afield and help to build Sheffield’s reputation as a beer city. “Look at Munich, Bruges, Portland, London, and you’ll see that Sheffield has at least as much right as any of them to compete for the title of the world’s

greatest beer city,” says the report. “The benefits of doing so to Sheffield’s hotels, B&Bs, restaurants, pubs and cafés, not to mention the city’s image more generally, would be significant indeed.” Professor Toulmin added: “Beer and pubs are the cultural glue that holds the city together - supporting the arts and communities to thrive by hosting events in back rooms and creating special festival ales. It’s the city’s turn to shout about our beer credentials and put Sheffield on the map as a destination for beer-lovers to rival Bruges and Munich.”

Arup, the global engineering consultancy, has taken 16,000sq ft of quality office space at 3 St Paul’s Place. Mr Topham has also revealed he was working on plans for 4 St Paul’s Place because, “the demand is there.” He said: “The launch of 3 St Paul’s Place has created a new central business district and we want to

continue that experience. It’s a great pleasure to help create the future of the city.” The council had also agreed to underwrite costs if no tenants could be found, adding security to the project. Simon Green, the city council’s executive director of place, said the scheme proved the authority could deliver big projects. He added: “Mr Topham’s plans for 4 St Paul’s are a further endorsement of the city council’s work.”

BAKE OFF STAR URGES PEOPLE IN SHEFFIELD TO GET BAKING TO BEAT MS Great British Bake Off ﬁnalist Kimberley Wilson is urging people in Shefﬁeld to raise ‘lots of dough’ for the MS Society by getting involved in Cake Break on 20 May, a mouth-watering event aiming to raise over £250,000 to support people living with multiple sclerosis (MS) in the UK. Everyone who takes part will be in with a chance of winning a baking master class with none other than the Bake Off star herself, as well as a selection of award winning gourmet jams from Kimberley’s own The Glamourous Jam Co. Speaking about her support for Cake Break, Kimberley says: “A close family member of mine has MS so I’ve witnessed the impact it can have on someone’s day to day life. It’s an unpredictable condition and it can be scary not to know how you’re going to feel from one day to the next. “Cake Break is a fun and delicious way to raise money to support the work the MS Society does to support people living with the condition and it’s a great excuse to get a bunch of friends together and show off your baking skills.”

More than 100,000 people are living with MS in the UK, and the MS Society is the leading charity for the condition. MS is unpredictable – one day you can be ﬁne, the next you might lose your sight or be unable to move. People typically start having symptoms in their 20s and 30s, which can include sight loss, pain, fatigue, incontinence and disability. Jemima Woolgar, Cake Break Ofﬁcer at the MS Society said: “We’d love more people to get involved with Cake Break. It’s a scrumptious way to fundraise for people affected by MS. AWARD WINNING SHEFFIELD 1940’s SHOW CELEBRATES SUCCESSFUL CITY HALL DEBUT

Earlier this month on the 12th of April, local production company Groovy Gazza Productions made their first appearance in their home town of Sheffield at the City Hall Ballroom with their award winning show, ‘A Salute to the 1940’s’. The show has been touring for 7yrs and has performed in local hotels and the Peace Gardens but this was the first time the troupe appeared at one of the city’s major venues. The show features several tributes to the variety acts from the 1940’s including George Formby, Gracie Fields, G.I Frank Sinatra, The Andrews Sisters, Max Miller and the UK No.1 Vera Lynn tribute Lorrie Brown, who has met Dame Vera Lynn herself. Gary Birtles the shows co-producer said, “It was an amazing experience, we have been looking forward to this moment since we started touring and the people of Sheffield didn’t let us down, in the end we had an audience of almost 400 packed into the ballroom and it created a fantastic atmosphere. People came dressed in their 1940’s costumes and many of the veterans came in their uniforms and all were waving their flags and joining in the songs, it was a sight I will

never forget.” The shows other co producer, award winning tribute artiste Lorrie Brown was also thrilled to have performed on the City Hall stage, Lorrie said “As I was singing We’ll Meet Again and all the audience were on their feet joining in and waving their ﬂags, the hairs on my neck were standing up, it was very emotional, we had many friends and family in the audience and it was a very proud moment I will never forget.” Lorrie and the show have performed in many major theatres around the UK including the Orchard Theatre in Dartford, Blackpool Opera House and St David’s Hall in Cardiff but this is the one the company will never forget. Joining the show, in the audience was Olga Marshall who along with several others were there as a surprise birthday treat arranged by their family, Lorrie says, “We had several people coming to the show to celebrate their birthday including Olga, who it turned out was with her daughter in law Diane who also went to school with Gary, also during the show I talk to people about my meeting

with Dame Vera and how she loves the fact that we are keeping her music alive, when a gentleman got up from his seat on the front row and came up to me to tell me he had actually met Dame Vera twice, then gave me a copy of the Dambusters DVD. It was a lovely moment.” The show is not back in Sheffield again this year at the moment but Gary says, “We have been told that our spin off from the show, ‘A Salute to the 1940’s, Dads Army Special’, may be returning to the City Hall later in the year, we are just waiting for a date to be confirmed’. Watch this space. The nearest the show will be performing is at the Retford Majestic theatre on June 11th. Tickets available from the box office. Their next available show is their tributes to Elvis and Doris Day which will be appearing at The Fairway, in Birley on May 17th, tickets available from the Fairway. Grammy award-winning rock giants, YES, come to Sheffield CIty Hall On this tour, fans can look forward to a unique Yes experience; the band will perform two of its iconic albums in their entirety, Fragile and, for the first time ever, Drama, in addition to classic Yes tracks. Yes, will have their 2016 UK-European tour kicking off 27 April 2016 in Glasgow, Scotland and wrapping up 2 June 2016 in Bari, Italy. They will touch down in the dramatic setting of Sheffield City Hall’s Irwin Mitchell Oval Hall on Tuesday, 3rd May 2016. Yes will delight audiences with tracks from two of its most influential albums. Fans will hear long-time favorites, including ‘Roundabout’, ‘Long Distance Runaround’, ‘Heart of the Sunrise’, ‘Machine Messiah’, ‘Into the Lens’, ‘Tempus Fugit’,” and more. In addition, YES will perform all tracks in the order they appear on their corresponding studio album. “This is a first for us,” said YES guitarist, Steve Howe. “This is the first time we’ll be performing Drama in its entirety. In fact, most of the Drama songs haven’t been performed in some 30 years.” YES drummer, Alan White, adds, “Drama’s a great album, and we decided it’s long past due to bring its life and energy back to the forefront. We think the

fans will love hearing Fragile and Drama in their entirety, and we certainly look forward to performing them.” The 2016 tour marks a return for YES after the phenomenal success of their sell-out 2014 triplealbum UK tour. The demand for tickets exceeded all expectations; YES are delighted to be able to give their fans this opportunity to see them once again performing live. my previous releases as it builds up to a very fast rhythm. The title refers to the famous story of the slave Kunta Kinte. In the song, I refer to Kunta Kinte’s life; despite the struggles, the slave remained positive and never let his head down. The title of the song was really a metaphor for new age artists becoming slaves to the system, the industry. I didn’t want my music to come out of a baked beans factory, different packaging but the same ole stuff. I want to remain unique and keep my identity, I guess thats why the character Kunta Kinte fitted so well with the song. I ask questions about 9-5 slavery and capitalism, working for minimum wage, prejudice and racial abuse. As a performance piece this song gives me the space to demonstrate all my best qualities live such as being humorous whilst Story Telling, Dancing with great energy, and above all being honest with audience through the music!” Championed by likes of Lauren Laverne at BBC 6Music and Huw Stephens at BBC Radio 1, Afrikan Boy is still a favourite among industry tastemakers and continues to showcase the naturally funny observational humour that has won him his diverse fan base.

‘High Heel Sneakerz’ rise like a phoenix from the Hystryonyx ashes 2015 saw the end of much loved local rock and pop covers band Hystryonyx. For those Hystryonyx fans who were sad to hear that the band had split, it is now with great pleasure we can reveal that three of the four former members are set to return in their new line up ‘High Heel Sneakerz’ at Crookes Social Club on Saturday 7th May. Back where she belongs fronting the band, is the outstanding lead Vocalist-Lou Champeau. With a range from Lissie to Anastasia, there’s something for everyone. This week, I’ve been to a venue I’ve been looking forward to getting to grips with for a long time. I can’t name it unfortunately, but it’s a private Staffordshire club water which can be seen from the road (so I have no idea why I can’t mention it, but there you go) and offers some fairly impressive fishing… apparently. I’ve had two very short sessions on the water previously, both during snowstorms, where unsurprisingly, I caught nothing, and missed the odd bite I did see as my teeth chattered; hopefully, in warm sunshine, things would be different. As usual, I’d done a bit of homework, and discovered that bream were being caught from the roadside bank, so I wandered slowly along, hoping to spot some signs of feeding fish. As I walked, I passed a thicket of brambles, and when I reached their limit, the water was absolutely boiling with fish; some bream, some carp, but either way, it looked like a Jacuzzi! I had intended to feeder fish, a standard bream approach, but with all the surface activity, I couldn’t wait to try the pellet waggler, so started firing out sinkers every few seconds, and casting over the top. Not a touch. I’ve been informed that the pellet waggler is often effective, but neither I, nor the adjacent anglers could get them going, so it was time for a change of plan; out came the trusty feeder rod, and a small method feeder loaded with groundbait was fired out and the tip left to settle. Again, very little occurred for over thirty minutes, then the first tentative twitches told me that the feeder had been discovered, then, ten minutes later, the first bream, a fish of around 3lb, was netted. Bites were slow to develop, and few and far between, so I changed to a cage feeder with a longer hook link just in case the fish were backing off the method feeder in clear water. Again, a half hour wait, but this time no twitches, just a slow steady pull, and it was a simple decision to lift the rod into yet another chunky bream. Despite the amount of activity in the swim, I hadn’t yet latched into a carp, so, as I often do, I dribbled a few walnuts of groundbait, a handful of maggots and a pinch of corn into the margins below my rod tip; just in case! The bream were coming with some regularity, one every thirty minutes, and, as I pulled into another, I finally saw a dark shape drift beneath me; it looked like the carp had arrived in the margins! I steered the bream to the side of the swim, well away from the carp, unhooked it and slipped it back quietly, before sitting well back to watch… There appeared to be four carp, none looked particularly big, but I wanted one on the mat. I tried to lay my feeder near the fish, but they spooked off the line, so I tackled up a small crystal waggler, loaded it to fish the ‘lift’ method, and lowered it off the end of my rod. The carp were all ‘head down, tails up’ and within a minute, the

float lifted and lay flat, and I struck into a fairly fed up carp! As you know, I’m an advocate for Sonik rods, and my S3 1.5lb tc Specialist soaked up any initial lunges (despite using only 5lb mainline) and within five minutes, a scraper double lay netted. The other three had drifted off, but I was confident they would return, so put in a little bit more bait, and resumed my bream fishing. They were back. Just a few minutes after the disturbance, the carp drifted in again from my left, and recommenced feeding. The cage feeder was withdrawn, the float deployed, a signal that my size 14 hook loaded with maggots had been snaffled, and sure enough, it popped up and laid flat for a second time! Once again, a slightly bigger double was defeated, and the remaining two fish slipped away… This was repeated on two further occasions, until all four carp had been deceived, the biggest a chunky 16lb 2oz, which fought strongly for more than ten minutes, and all tamed on just a small barbless hook and relatively thin line thanks to the forgiving action of my S3. (If you haven’t done so by now, check out www. soniksports.com I’ve dropped enough hints!) Overall, I tempted my foursome of unwary carp, and around two dozen bream, all averaging 3-4lb, to give a combined weight of over 100lb; a good result on a water I’ve yet to get to grips with, but a sure sign progress is being made. Hopefully, I’ll tangle with one of the bigger residents next time; there are reputedly carp to 30lb, but certain rules mean that they are rarely landed, instead discussed amongst smashed up anglers as ‘monsters’. I’ll be sure to let you know if I do…

The Sheffield Mercury Species Competition caught the attention of a strong turn out of entrants at Longacre Fishery, Tansley, near Matlock with Geoff Robinson from Wrexham taking the top honours by catching a 2lb Ide and a Roach. In second place was Aiden Broadbent from Winster with Louise Allen from Bakewell taking the third spot. By winning the day’s events Geoff qualifies for the Champion’s Day on September 25th, again staged at Longacre Fishery. Everyone had a good day with owners Andrew and Kathy Norton providing expert help and advice along with welcoming refreshments. Sheffield’s Chris Wardle also won the recent competition to spend a long weekend stay at the Matlock site.

MILLER’S CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE TO SUPPORTERS I write this the day after we secured our Championship status for the 2016/2017 campaign, following the point we needed to achieve safety without relying on any other club’s results, and taking care of the job in hand ourselves. I wanted to publicly place on record my thanks for the job that Neil Warnock, and his support staff, have done since arriving at the Club in February. We weren’t in a great position at that time and it was certainly a challenging task to turn around our fortunes and steer us clear of the bottom three but, nevertheless, nobody at the Club had given up and that task has now been done and dusted with two games to go - a quite remarkable achievement. Huge praise has to be given to everyone involved including the manager, everyone involved

in the ‘on the pitch’ side of the Club and not to mention the players who have shown terriﬁc commitment, work rate and togetherness that makes me proud beyond belief of every single one of them. They have shown what they are made of as individuals, as a team and represented this Club with outstanding pride - a Chairman can never ask for more than that. It is worth noting the ‘off the pitch’ team too who work tirelessly to support everything we strive to achieve. We are a close knit group who go that extra mile to get the job done. We have a strong ‘club culture’ throughout and what I mean by that is we are respectful and understanding of everybody else’s pressures and look to support each other through those times. That creates unity and

unity is what you need to dig deep and achieve what has been achieved this season. Last but by no means least, you - the supporters, home and away we’ve been in it together whether we sit in the Directors’ Box, corporate hospitality areas or in the stands, we kick and head every ball together and we share the same emotions - we are as one. The last home game of the season on Saturday against Blackburn Rovers gives us an opportunity to give this current campaign a good send off. Why not make this ‘Millers Day’ amongst us? Make it colourful and represent our red and white Club colours with pride. We should also reach out and connect to someone that maybe hasn’t been for a while, maybe someone that hasn’t been at

all, who knows but connect with them and bring them with you. We have been working on continually growing our fan base over the last four seasons and the quicker we can do that the more reason it gives me to dust off the stadium expansion, plans which will help generate more revenue that will always cascade into the player budget. Season Tickets are on sale now for the 2016/2017 season and sales are very encouraging, we’re already through the 6,000 mark. Finally, and again, thanks to all involved in what has been a truly remarkable achievement, this Rotherham is truly UNITED. See you all on Saturday. Tony

GRANT DETERMINED TO REMAIN UNBEATEN WILLIAMS WANTS IT On loan Tottenham Hotspur midﬁelder Grant Ward is determined to extend Rotherham United’s impressive unbeaten run until the end of the 2015/16 Sky Bet Championship campaign. Neil Warnock’s side have not tasted defeat in any of their last 10 outings in the league and the energetic Spurs loanee is keen to ensure that record is preserved until the curtain comes down on the current season. “We just want to carry on

the run until the end of the season and whatever happens elsewhere is going to happen. Darren Ferguson described his side’s 2-0 win over Coventry City at the weekend as “dominant.” Ferguson watched on as loanee Tommy Rowe and striker Andy Williams both notched ﬁrst half headers to give Rovers a chance of survival as the League One season nears its conclusion. “(It was) impressive; dominant,” asserted the Scot. “We felt that they’d play the three at the back as they did on Tuesday but they didn’t. If we perform like that then I’m conﬁdent we can get to 51 (points) and then you need a little bit of luck,” he said. “All I said to the players was get it to the Crewe game and now all I’ll say is take it to the last game. We’ve got that mentality where you need to win the game and that stands us in good stead. “We go to Crewe and we have to win that while Fleetwood don’t play until Monday so that will make it nervy for them. “We can catch four teams so that’s okay but we’ve just got to do our own job. The players are believing in what we’re doing, playing well and enjoying it. “We don’t want it to be a case of too little too late, six points is what we need and we hope then that we get a little bit of luck that we’ve not had.”

Andy Williams has said that Rovers are still in with “a ﬁghting chance” after he put the seal on a 2-0 win over Coventry with his 16th goal of the campaign. While Rovers’ League One future hangs in the balance, the 29 year old’s return to goalscoring ways could prove pivotal. “Its good, it’s nice to have two goals in three now but it’s more important that we won,” he said. “I think we’ve been performing well of late and not got the wins we wanted but we’re keeping ourselves in the mix and in with a ﬁghting chance; that’s all we can do. “There’s lots of clichés that come out at this time of year but we’re now in a mini-league and we’ve done what we had to do and now have to do that again at Crewe next Saturday. “I felt I owed the lads one, I had

almost the exact same chance at Chesterﬁeld in the week and I didn’t quite get in line with the ball. Thankfully it went in and helped us towards three points.” Williams was deﬁant amid the threat of relegation as Rovers look to avoid a similar fate which Saturday’s opponents Crewe have already suffered. “People probably don’t appreciate that there’s a lot at stake here for the players as well,” he said. “All the fans care and have a passion for the club more than anyone but these are our livelihoods and I think everyone gets hit by relegation and none more so than us and we want this as much as anyone and hopefully we’re starting to show that on the pitch now. “If anything it (Crewe’s relegation) will make it harder; they’ve got nothing to play for and we’ve got to make sure that we perform how we have done lately and the result takes care of itself.”

BLADES NEWS2015/16 BARNSLEY ALL SQUARE IN LOCAL DERBY GAFFER’S DRAW VERDICT United’s slender chance of reaching the play-off remain after battling goal-less draw in Saturday’s South Yorkshire derby with Barnsley. Inn a gritty performance, Che Adams came close with a shot which was pushed onto a post. For the ﬁfth game in a row, the Blades manager kept faith with his starting XI and personnel on show needed to be well drilled in a frantic opening 15 minutes, which saw a lot of end-to-end action, even though the only shot of note was a weak Hammill effort, straight at Long. Goalkeeper Long saved from Hammill again soon after, following a Fletcher break down the left, ahead of a spell of Blades pressure. On 23 minutes, from an Adams cross, Sharp’s challenge on Davies

saw the goalkeeper drop but Done’s rebound was kicked away by Roberts, then Davies made a ﬁne save from a powerful Adams shot, turning onto a post, after good battling by Flynn. Basham’s effort was deﬂected over the crossbar after Roberts failed to clear a Done corner and the high-energy action continued through the half hour mark. Nigel Adkins is demanding his side finishes the season strongly, despite a ‘disappointing and frustrating’ stalemate against play-off rivals Barnsley on Saturday. Che Adams came closest to breaking the deadlock against the Tykes at Bramall Lane, only to be denied by Adam Davies, as the Blades failed to break down a resolute visiting rearguard in a quest to gain a much needed victory. The Gaffer commented “We needed to win the game, we got a fourth clean sheet in five games and another point, but we needed all three. “It’s disappointing and frustrating because a win would have put us in a much better position to challenge for the top six, but the lads have put in a real shift with the games in a week. “We played well in periods, but our quality in the final third wasn’t as good as it has been and we weren’t quite good enough on the ball. We huffed and puffed without getting that

elusive goal.” Adkins added: “But at the end Roberts makes a great block to deny Conor (Sammon), who knows where that goal could have taken us, but it wasn’t to be unfortunately. “The expectation was there, the tense was there and we didn’t capitalise on the chances we created, but give Barnsley some credit it was a highly competitive game. “We have got everything intention of going out and trying to win the last two matches, regardless of what happens that’s our aim, we are building and we believe in what we are doing.”

Backed up by the stats that show Wednesday have lost just two games from 22 on home soil all season, Carlos said: “The next game is important, we know that one point is enough to achieve the sixth position but we play all the games, all the season to try to win and to try for the three points. “We will do exactly the same in the next game and after we will see.” With the club expecting their biggest league attendance of the campaign, the atmosphere is sure to

be electric heading into the crucial clash with Cardiff. Carlos says his players will thrive at Hillsborough in such circumstances and added: “We do not feel pressure, we still have two games to play but
