NEW MANAGEMENT ANNOUNCED FOR SHEFFIELD FOOD FESTIVAL Hugely popular Sheffield Food Festival will return for a seventh year next May, under new management. The ever-successful annual event, which takes place across the city centre on the May bank holiday weekend, began as a collaboration between Sheffield Hallam University’s Business School and Sheffield City Council’s major events team. The organisation Events Collective, which has been an integral part of the Sheffield Food Festival team for the last five years,
will now be taking on the co-ordination of the whole event. Bob Worm from Events Collective said: “I am over the moon that our role with Sheffield Food Festival is growing. We love delivering this event and there is no doubt it is one of the highlights of our calendar. “I am looking forward to helping the festival grow from strength to strength.” Councillor Mary Lea, cabinet member for culture, sport and leisure at Sheffield City Council, said: “I am delighted to see this ever-popular
celebration of Sheffield’s fine food and drink culture return for a seventh year, and would like to welcome Events Collective to their new role. “Once again, Sheffield Food Festival is set to tickle the tastebuds of tens of thousands of people and showcase the very best that our city has to offer when it comes to produce, ales, fine dining, street food, baking and cookery.” Recent years have seen the weekend event take root in the Peace Gardens and slowly grow out into its surrounding areas, with almost 30,000 people
attending over three days last year. People were drawn from all over Sheffield and further afield to try out tasty street food, shop at the artisan food and drink market, watch cookery demonstrations and enjoy a range of real ales from a beer tent in the heart of the gardens. Events Collective also has some exciting new features planned for the years ahead, including the addition of local buskers and acoustic acts. Kevin Nield from Sheffield Business School said: “We have thoroughly enjoyed

MEADOWHALL GETS IN THE SEASONAL SPIRIT WITH CHRISTMAS HO-HO-HOSTS Meadowhall Centre in South Yorkshire is taking the Christmas spirit to the next level by investing thousands in a new elite team of Ho! Ho! hosts to help its shoppers this year. The Centre has adopted the World Host Training - used to train the Olympian helpers for London 2012 - as the basis for its Christmas boot camp for an elite squad with a single “Mission Possible” to help shoppers. The team of mobile hosts will work across the Centre during the peak trading days of Christmas, and will be trained and equipped to ‘surprise and delight’ customers by going above and beyond the normal level of service. The appointed hosts will be on hand to help customers carry bags to the cars; act as personal shoppers, taxi bookers and even offer a brolly/bad weather rescue service, as well as being armed with i-pads to provide on the spot store information and local traffic updates. Mark Bruce, Retail Director for Meadowhall, commented: “We know that the festive period is a very busy time for our shoppers and, with so much going on at Meadowhall right now, we wanted to go that extra mile to try and make Christmas shopping a bit more magical. “The team is really being put through their paces but by
the end of it they will be heading on to the malls with a Ho! Ho! host of new skills to put into action.” Meadowhall has also been studying the number and types of questions that customer service teams and its TellMeadowhall helpline have had to field during festive periods to ensure the new team have the right answers at their fingertips. Store location and opening hours, Grotto location and car parking questions are the most common but more bizarre requests include recommendations for the best Christmas cakes, bestselling toys, panic purchases and even helping out with writing Christmas cards and last-minute tags! For the new recruits who expected to be sat in a stuffy training room, nothing could be further from the reality of becoming a crack Christmas host with the most. The intensive training includes mall obstacle courses they have to navigate whilst holding piles of presents, testing skills on how to keep children happy whilst shopping, a general knowledge quiz on Meadowhall and mall directional skills that would put Rudolph to shame. “This isn’t any ordinary training course but we aren’t looking for just ordinary customer service,” added Mark. “We are recruiting people who are outgoing and theatrical and really do live, eat and breathe Christmas. It will be their skills, smiles and can-do attitude that’s the icing on the Christmas cake at Meadowhall this December.”
I CAN PROVE MY WORK FOR YOU TO BELIEVE QUICK AND POSITIVE RESULT GUARANTEED.

Why are mountains so funny? Because they’re hill areas. This guy just tried to throw dough, cheese, and tomatoes at me, I said, “You wanna pizza me?” Good news at last for insomniacs. Only 5 sleeps til Christmas. I told my dad to embrace his mistakes. He gave me a hug. I don’t mean to brag, but just completed my daughter’s jigsaw in under 1 hour. It says 5-6 yrs on the box. I got sacked from PC World today. A guy came in the store and asked me what was the best thing to finding your ancestors and I said a shovel. I spent ages trying to cross a busy road & passerby said, “There’s a pelican crossing up the road”. I said “I hope he’s having better luck than me”. What do you call a laughing motorcycle? A Yamahaha I asked the wife what she wanted for Christmas “some chocolate and a nice surprise would be lovely” she replied. Kinder egg it is then.

Example groups include: • book clubs • faith groups • oral history groups • refugee groups • support groups for those suffering with the same health problems • groups that link up former servicemen and women • social and friendship groups

THE LEGENDARY LINDISFARNE TO CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT PERFROM THEIR CHRISTMAS SHOW LIVE AT THE TRADES IN ROTHERHAM The legendary Lindisfarne will be performing at The Trades, Rotherham, on Saturday 10th December. They will be putting on their every popular Christmas show with all the old favourites to take you back down memory lane. Lindisfarne first appeared out of Tyneside in the early 70s and remain as popular as ever on the live music scene. They enjoyed a phenomenal time during the seventies with their unique pop folk fusion winning millions of fans in the UK and the rest of the world. Their run of timeless classic hits include Meet Me On The Corner, Lady Eleanor, Dingley Dell, Scotch Mist, Clear White Light and Wake Up Little Sister which have all been covered by other Bands including football legend, Paul Gascoigne, with his much talked about version of Fog On The Tyne. Lindisfarne still sell out their annual Newcastle Christmas shows and play to sold out concerts around the UK
but have toured rarely since the death of James Hull who wrote many of the songs. The Trades are delighted to have secured one of the sought after dates for 2016 when the full band will perform.
Christ Church Fulwood, on the western edge of Sheffield, is set to welcome up to 4000 people to its annual Carols by Candlelight services. Featuring a fabulous choir and full orchestra, the services have been growing hugely in popularity over the last few years and now attract people from across the city and beyond. They have proved so popular that the church will repeat the event eight times this year. Music Coordinator at Christ Church, Matt Dennis, said: ‘We’re delighted to welcome many thousands to celebrate Christmas with us. Our conviction is that the birth of Jesus is truly ‘good news of great joy for all people’, as the Gospel writer puts it.’ Almost 200 musicians will participate across the eight services, with orchestral players and choral singers drawn from the congregation at Christ Church, and augmented by many other neighbours, friends and colleagues from across the city. This collection of mainly amateur musicians, with a sprinkling of professionals, makes a fantastic sound; it’s amazing what musical talent lurks around every Sheffield corner! The services follow something close to the traditional nine lessons and carols format, familiar to many, featuring plenty of carols to join in with, as well as musical items to enjoy and readings from the Bible telling the Christmas
This will be memorable night so be sure to be there. Tickets are £22.50 in advance from The Trades Web Site www. thetardeslive.co.uk or direct from The Trades Box Office 01709 3370651.
All ages are warmly welcomed to the services on: Sunday 11th December, 4pm* & 6pm Friday 16th December, 8pm Saturday 17th December, 4pm* & 6pm Sunday 18th December, 4pm*, 6pm & 8pm *Pre-school crèches are available at 4pm services. All followed by refreshments.
ADMISSION FREE Held at Christ Church Fulwood, Canterbury Avenue, Sheffield, S103RT. More info at www. fulwoodchurch.co.uk. Email admin@fulwoodchurch.co.uk, or call (0114) 230 1911.

THE AUTUMN STATEMENT: HOW WILL IT AFFECT MOTORISTS? Philip Hammond has delivered his first Autumn Statement as Chancellor – but how will it affect motorists? There were a number of interesting developments so we have outlined below the important matters that relate to motorists. Better roads A total of £1.3bn has been promised to spend on improving Britain’s roads. The funds will include £1.1bn towards schemes to help in reducing congestion and upgrading local roads, while £220m will tackle tackling “pinch points” on England’s motorways and major A roads. A new £27m expressway will also be built between Oxford, Milton Keynes and Cambridge, and there are plans for major road scheme developments in the north of England. Fuel savings Fuel duty has been frozen for the seventh successive year, at a cost of £850 million - saving the average
THE FAIRFUELUK CAMPAIGN RESPOND TO THE AUTUMN STATEMENT Quentin Willson, TV Motoring Journalist & Broadcaster and Lead Campaigner for FairFuelUK said: ““I’m disappointed that the Chancellor didn’t instantly put money into everyone’s pockets by cutting duty. There’s an immediate benefit to the economy. I’m surprised too given the CEBR has said cutting duty by 3p wouldn’t change net tax receipts. This is a lost opportunity from a government still afraid of supporting drivers and roads’ Charlie Elphicke MP for Dover and Chair of APPG for Fair Fuel said: “This is a victory for the hard-working classes of modern Britain. “I’m delighted the Chancellor listened to the concerns of drivers and FairFuelUK supporters up and down the land. He is absolutely right to put more money in the pockets of hard-pressed families and small businesses.” Howard Cox, Founder of the FairFuelUK Campaign said: 'the longest tax freeze in history is down to FairFuelUK and its millions of supporters showing that lower pump prices is good for the economy.'
car driver £130 and van driver £350 a year. The news has been welcomed by the RAC. Fuel spokesman Simon Williams said: “The Chancellor’s commitment to freeze fuel duty will be greeted with relief by motorists and businesses at a time when we know drivers are concerned that fuel prices will rise significantly over the next six months.” The Chancellor said £390 million will be invested into electric vehicles to “build on our competitive advantage in low emission vehicles and the development of connected autonomous vehicles.” He added that there will be 100% first-year capital allowance for the installation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Although tax savings on salary sacrifice and benefits in kind are to be stopped, ultra-low emission cars will be exempt from this. Increase in insurance premium tax There will be a rise from 10% to 12% in insurance premium tax from June next year, meaning insurers could well pass on to policyholders. The move represents a doubling in the tax rate on home and motor insurance premiums within the past two years. RAC director of insurance Mark Godfrey called this decision a “slap in the face” for motorists. He said: “The Chancellor may now be at risk of encouraging some hard-pressed motorists to break the law by driving without car insurance, which will further increase premiums for law-abiding drivers. We would urge the Government in the name of road safety, to reconsider this rise.” Reforms to compensation for whiplash Plans to cap payouts for whiplash to crack down on fraudulent claims were also confirmed. Mr Hammond said the government will bring in legislation next year to “end the compensation culture surrounding whiplash claims”. He said the decision will save drivers an average of £40 on their annual premiums. However, the RAC said while the reforms are welcome, the organisation is concerned that they will not achieve savings for motorists as only a small number of insurers have so far committed to passing the savings on.

ANGLER’S CORNER
putting in a ‘good word’ on my behalf (of which I knew nothing, but for which I’m grateful) suggesting that I may be able to with Clint Walker help publicise the brand through my weekly This week, I’ve done less fishing than usual. newspaper column, and regular blogs. The In truth, I’ve been in Rome for a few days, result was a huge amount of fresh, blast having a bit of well-deserved down time frozen deadbaits, a large box full of goodies with my wife, exploring the finer things in to examine, and a place on the team. I can’t life. Of course, I’ve had my ‘fishing head’ pretend to be a ‘field tester’ as that work is on (don’t tell her) and used the time away done by anglers vastly more experienced and to grab some super product shots in some knowledgeable than I, but I do hope to be able stunning locations. to help push the brand with regular updates; I’ve also kept my eyes open for other prepare to be assailed… likeminded souls, who may have seen fit to Baitbox and Pikepro are amongst the biggest spend a few hours on the banks of the mightily of hitters on the predator scene, and I have impressive River Tiber, which I crossed used their products for years, so it was nice repeatedly whilst trying to spot a kindred spirit to be asked. Like many anglers, I have my who may have been enjoying the glorious favourite products, my ‘must have’ essentials, sunshine in search of piscine entertainment. and like many anglers, I don’t stray too far Unbelievably, there were none… not a single from that list; if it isn’t broken, why fix it? angler was to be seen over a period of four However, within the box were a few products days, along miles of riverbank, and I couldn’t I haven’t used for a while, or hadn’t seen find a tackle shop anywhere! Believe me, I before, and like a kid at Christmas, I was looked. I searched around the Colosseum, quick to select a few to look at in more detail. Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, and every I had time to grab a few hours on the bank other landmark in the city, but nothing, nada, with a selection of items, but Storm Angus not a hook or a lure in sight… I wonder why? appeared to have put paid to any real chance Although disappointed not to find any Italian of a bumper session. I arrived to find the pools anglers to learn from, I still found time to well up, and full to the brim, extensive rainfall file weekly copy for my magazine columns had left the waters a very muddy brown, and from the hotel, and as mentioned, concentrate now, the sun was shining brightly; hardly ideal on a few unusual product shots, so at least conditions in which to catch pike! Needs must I had enough to keep me going until we however, so I set up two legered baits, a small returned home, but I also had something to roach and a lean, golden trout, and dropped look forward to when we arrived back in the both into likely spots to try and entice some interest. For two hours, nothing happened. UK. Prior to departing, I’d had an exchange Moving swims, I tried two more areas, again of emails with the director of Baitbox/ without any indications, so a final move Pikepro about their products, which I use took me into my third swim of the day as the almost exclusively for my pike angling. This shadows lengthened, and the temperature exchange came about as a result of someone

dropped. Not one fish had been caught; around the lake, anglers were trying different tactics and baits, but without success, and as the light faded, my chances were fast disappearing too… A bleep. Enough to attract my attention. My drop off slowly moved towards the floor, and the alarm slowly ticked as something picked up the bait. As the line moved across the water, I lifted the rod to set the hooks, and felt nothing! I’d missed it! This happened on two more occasions, an hour apart, one on each rod, and I didn’t connect with any of them. Each indication resulted in a bait coming to the bank with teeth marks in it, so the fish were certainly picking the offerings up,
but not confidently enough to register a full blooded run. The last remaining angler finally managed a tiny jack pike, a fish of perhaps a pound, as the bats emerged, but between us, that was it. During the day, at least six baits had been in the water, including untouched maggots, to no avail. Not even a roach or a perch was caught by anglers who were coarse fishing with worm and caster baits! It wasn’t really the ideal start to begin to promote new products, but I’m confident that next week, when I’m fully recovered from the stresses of charging around Rome (some holiday!) I’ll get amongst the fish, and be able to showcase the new kit a little more comprehensively… I hope so!

JACKETT STILL BELIEVES IN MILLERS CHARACTER Rotherham United manager Kenny Jackett says he still believes there is character.within his side following their narrow 2-1 defeat to Leeds United at AESSEAL New York Stadium on Saturday. Goals from Chris Wood and Souleymane Doukara proved too much for the Millers despite Richard Wood’s header setting up a nervy finish for Garry Monk’s side in the Yorkshire derby, with the hosts’ task made even more difficult by the dismissal of Peter Odemwingie in the first half. However, Rotherham boss Jackett praised his team’s spirit in difficult circumstances following the restart and says they were unlucky not to snatch a point from the all-Yorkshire affair. “There was a young group on there at the end and they gave everything and we were unlucky not to get something out of the game and at least showed a battling performance and didn’t fall away,” he explained in the wake of the game. “There were some positives and there was some spirit in the second half from a young group. “It’s a young group that are eager and pushing to try to make their way in the game and establish themselves in the Championship and play for Rotherham.” The Millers’ start was hampered by injuries to Greg Halford and Lee Camp, both of whom were forced off, but Jackett was pleased by his side’s resurgence which almost saw them net an equaliser moments before the end. “It looked like we were out of the game and then obviously we had injuries early on which limited the substitutions,” he added. “Then we have the sending off and I have seen it

back and I think it’s hard for us to argue with the referee’s decision. “Leeds looked very strong right from the start and it was very difficult for us to keep hold of them. We showed some effort and some spirit in the second period which we can base the future on. “There’s a big scramble in the box and I thought it was in,” Jackett continued. “It’s sat up for Dominic Ball and unfortunately we haven’t put that away. We do perhaps need that little bit of luck to turn things for us but in the end, you make your own luck and performances do follow results.” Jackett finished by explaining that all three of
the Millers’ subs were forced due to injury and gave the breakdown on their early prognosis. “He [Halford] has an ankle problem and he’s gone over on it quite badly and they’ve taken him to hospital,” he said after the game. “It’s his role and we’ve been working hard to try and get the best out of him and it is an unfortunate injury. “It was a knee-to-knee and for Lee [Camp] to come off it must have been quite bad. We hope he recovers quickly. “Joe Newell has come off with a problem with the top of his hamstring/lower glute, so all three substitutions today were injuries with two of them in the first half.”

resignation and accordingly, his employment with the Club has terminated with immediate effect. Kenny's resignation came as a shock to the Club and is disappointing. The Club will now focus on making appropriate arrangements for the first team. Paul Warne has agreed to take care of first team matters on an interim basis whilst the Board of Directors begin the process of appointing a new first team manager. Rotherham United will be making no further comment at this time.
Following the game against Leeds United at the weekend, Kenny Jackett tendered his
RESPECT TEAM OF THE MONTH FC Cumberland, October’s RESPECT Team of the Month, joined us at Saturday’s match. This season Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA has launched a RESPECT Team of the Month award and FC Cumberland, receive their award prior to Rovers’ game with Leyton Orient. We also welcomed also representatives from the Doncaster Sunday Alliance League who nominated them for the award following a positive report received by the League from a referee that highlighted the team’s excellent attitude and
behaviour on and off the pitch. FC Cumberland applauded good play by their opponents and did not get into any arguments or disagreements. The team supported all decisions made by the referee and at the end of the game every player shook hands with opponents and referee. John Steele from Doncaster Sunday Alliance League said: “That is excellent news and well deserved. “FC Cumberland have been in the league for a while now. All teams should look to follow the good example they set as a well-run team and club, I really admire them”. Doncaster Rovers FC have also rewarded the team, with a free pitch to train on earlier this week and a number tickets for Saturday’s game, everyone at the County FA is grateful to the club for their help and support
ROVERS MOST COMPLETE PERFORMANCE Darren Ferguson felt Rovers put on their most complete performance of the season against Leyton Orient. Rovers had to come from behind after Callum Kennedy’s stunning free-kick, but Jordan Houghton levelled before two Liam Mandeville penalties sealed the three points. The boss said: “I thought we were good last week against Hartlepool, but we were even better this time. “In terms of the performance it was very good. We dominated the ball, moved it quickly and always had options. It was a performance from a very confident team. “I set the players the challenge of winning all games in the month, and we’ve done that – they’ve done very well. We knew three wins out of three would get us to where we wanted to be, and the past two performances have

probably been our best of the season. “In the past two games we’ve maintained our concentration and not let things affect us. So, for instance, Hartlepool equalised and it didn’t make a difference, Orient going ahead didn’t make a difference – we kept doing what we wanted to do. We really focus on maintaining our standards.” A 100 per cent winning record in November has seen Rovers move on to 36 points from 18 games, hitting the magical two point per game average Ferguson has targeted for automatic promotion. Rovers have now opened up a five-point gap to fourth-placed Portsmouth and would usurp leaders Carlisle United if they claim victory at Stevenage on Saturday. Ferguson knows three points next Saturday

will only come if his players maintain their high standards. He added: “It has got around the dressing room that we can go top if we win next week, but it’s all about the points target. We just need to maintain our standards – we know when we do that right we win games. “They are playing with a lot of confidence, but we know it will be a tough game as Stevenage have gone to Portsmouth and won. There are no easy games, and we know that, the most important thing is us.”
HAPPY HOUGHTON The gaffer puts a lot of confidence in me. He wants me to be the one who gets us playing, to go and find the ball Jordan Houghton is looking to the future after notching his first Rovers goal and Man of the Match award. The young defensive midfielder struck the equalising goal against Leyton Orient and collected a bottle of bubbly from the match sponsor after another impressive display helped Rovers to a 3-1 victory. He said: “I’m really pleased with my first Man of the Match award and my first goal, but the most important thing is putting a good performance in, getting a win and putting us in a good place for next week. “In the past couple of games I’ve had a couple of efforts on goal, I’ve been getting forward a bit more because we’ve been dominating games so I can push on. I had two chances just before I scored which were blocked, so I was really pleased to put it away. “In the past couple of games you can feel a buzz about the whole group - not just the starting XI, or those who are playing, but those not in the squad, the coaches and the staff. The gaffer set us a target of winning every game in November and we’ve done that, now we have to keep setting small targets and hopefully that will finish with the end goal of promotion.” Houghton’s loan runs until January, but he is keen to extend his stay in South Yorkshire until at least the end of the season. He said: “It is definitely something that I want to do. I am still waiting to find out about my contract with Chelsea – it is up at the end of the season, so I am waiting to see what is going to happen with that end of things. “Once that gets sorted we can look to extend the loan because it is what all parties want. Hopefully I can stay until the end of the season. “I am playing every week, but you can’t get complacent and expect to be on the teamsheet every time. You have still got to train every day like it’s your last training session – there are still players coming back from injury, or not in the side who want to impress, so I can’t sit back and expect to play every game. That’s just not how football works.” Houghton is keen to continue a partnership with Rovers boss Darren Ferguson and assistant Gavin Strachan which he feels is really improving him as a player. He added: “The gaffer puts a lot of confidence in me. He wants me to be the one who gets us playing, to go and find the ball, get it off the centre-halves or the keeper. I feel my game comes quite naturally to get on the ball. It is good he has that confidence in me and I can only thank him for that. “The manager really wants to improve me so I can go back to Chelsea as a better player. Coming into the last few games after addressing those little errors I think we have really kicked on and showed confidence in each other.”

WE DESERVED TO WIN - LEE For Kieran Lee, three points in the bag and his fourth goal of the campaign made for an extremely pleasing afternoon in the West Midlands. The Owls were deserved winners after a terrific performance at Molineux, defeating Wolves 2-0. Fernando Forestieri set the ball rolling by converting his 15th minute penalty, before Lee applied a crisp
finish after a heavy spell of pressure from the visitors on the half hour mark. “We were delighted to get the goals early and we had a couple more chances after that,” Lee said. “You can’t score every chance that you have but we’ll take the two goals, take the points and go on to build on that hopefully. “We knew they would fly out of the traps, they
kept their energy levels high, it was a tough game but we deserved to win. “I think as a team we worked really hard. Obviously with them having a new manager and a big crowd, they wanted to impress, they pressed us well and made it difficult. “But we battled hard, we got the two goals in the first half and it kind of set the tone for us and how we would
play and we saw it through. We defended well and are happy with the points.”Lee’s first half strike from Lucas Joao’s cutback was the midfielder’s first goal since Wednesday’s 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough on 24 September. He continued: “I was due one I think, it’s been a few weeks so obviously I’m delighted with that but the win was the most important.”
SECOND GOAL THE DIFFERENCE Carlos Carvalhal said getting the second goal made a big difference for the Owls following their 2-0 win against Wolves at Molineux. Wednesday took the lead in the first half when Fernando Forestieri converted a penalty after he was brought down by Matt Doherty in the area. At times the Owls played some sublime football, and they grabbed a second when Forestieri fed Lucas Joao in the box, who in turn laid the ball back to Kieran Lee to tuck home. Carvalhal said: “Today we deserved to win.
“Wolves made it difficult for us in the early stages but we were determined to create chances and we did this very well. “We scored the first goal and deserved to be in front, but then we wanted to keep making chances and we did this and got the second. “The second goal made a big difference for us today. “We played very well, but there have been other games this season where we have played better and not scored the second goal, so it is important that we did this today.”
The Owls were solid throughout with Wolves creating few clear goalscoring opportunities and Carvalhal praised his team’s collective defensive display. The head coach added: “The whole team was very compact and the defensive organisation was very good.
“Not just Keiren Westwood and the four defenders but the midfielders and attackers also. “We are in a good way and playing very well, we have improved our efficiency and I hope this continues for the rest of the season.”

WILDER’S CHARLTON VERDICT 2016/17 Chris Wilder couldn’t hide his disappointment after the Blades conceded a late equaliser against Charlton Athletic at The Valley on Saturday. Mark Duffy gave United a 32nd minute, but three minutes into stoppage time Patrick Bauer prodded home from close range to rescue the Addicks a share of the spoils and despite the Blades now being 15 games
unbeaten in Sky Bet League One the Blades boss wasn’t happy. Speaking in the aftermath of the fixture, Wilder acknowledged his side had been made to pay for failing to finish the hosts off and was adamant United should have been leaving the capital with all three points. He commented: “I expect my team to play well and win, but
we’ve dropped two big points. “I’ve let the players off in the last couple of matches, we get the stats and analyse them properly because we’re a forward thinking club. “But the crucial thing is taking your chances, putting the ball in the back of the net and killing teams off and the amount of chances we’ve not taken in the last three games in frightening.
“This time we’ve been made to pay against a decent side with some dangerous players, but we’ve totally dominated the game and for us not to win comfortably is disappointing.” Wilder added: “I’m looking for that relentlessness and ruthless streak in every game, we’re a decent side, people recognise that and people know we’ve move forward quickly, but this is a
missed opportunity. “We could have stuck a marker down at a very good club where we’ve been backed by over 3,000 of our
terrific supporters and for me we’ve not done enough, we’ve not seen the game out and that’s immensely frustrating.”

Seventeen of the eighteen match worn shirts are on offer through the auction, which will end on the 5th December. In addition, the shirt

United’s U18s warmed up for Wednesday’s FA Youth Cup tie at Preston North End, but earning a deserved point against Leeds United at Shirecliffe on Saturday. Defender Joseph Cummings headed home a late header as a youthful Blades side more than held their own against strong opposition who were at full strength. United enjoyed the better of a pretty even firsthalf and had a chance in just the sixth minute. Mallon engineered space out wide, but his inviting centre agonisingly flashed across the face of goal. The Blades continued to press as the first period progressed
SUFC LADIES TAME FOXES United cruised to an easy win in this League Cup second round clash against Loughborough Foxes’ third team. This was an ideal last match before attentions turn to the WFA Cup clash at Bramall Lane. With the game won by halftime United had the luxury of protecting key players whilst boosting morale further with a nine goal haul without reply. Loughborough Foxes third team, known as Vixens, are in the league below United and have only won once in that league this season so far. The gulf between the two sides soon became clear.
United made the break through after 16 minutes when Sophie Bell rounded the Foxes standin ‘keeper to tap in. United were a constant threat and went close a few times. Left winger Lucy Darbyshire set up goal two for Bell to turn and fire in her second after 31 minutes and although the Foxes held out thereafter until the break United were very comfortable at 2-0 ahead. United put the game beyond any doubt within a few minutes of the restart. First, right-winger Shannon Smith dropped a cross perfectly for Jen Pearson to finish for goal three and
then Annalise Carroll lashed in through a crowded box at a corner for number four after 51 minutes. That signalled the departure for some of United`s key players to be protected from any further risk with Rosa Neary, Rachel Ruddach and
then Sophie Bell all withdrawn. Kim Brown was one of the subs coming on, who had taken a knock the previous week, but was able to shine and soon amongst the goals. On 70 minutes Brown was put through to finish for the fifth and three

and Hallam had two sights of goal in quick succession, with Mallon the architect, but on both occasions the in-form striker fired narrowly over the crossbar. And the visitors caught the hosts cold from a corner in the 43rd minute to take a lead into the interval, slightly against the run of play. The second-half followed a similar pattern to the first, United pressed for a goal, but the visitors defended resolutely. Slater flashed an effort wide, before Smith was denied by the Leeds goalkeeper just after the hour. But with 16 minutes remaining, United got a goal their efforts deserved, with CUMMINGS heading home at the back
post from Mallon’s excellent left-wing delivery. And it was United who came closest to snatching a winner but Hallam saw his freekick saved and the loose ball was cleared. On the stalemate, Lead Coach Derek Geary remarked: “It was a good point and a deserved one against a very well organised and much older side. “It was a keenly contested derby and a draw was a fair result.”
minutes later Carroll did the same for number six and her second. United still had time to blaze a few over the bar as the home team, without any subs began to fade. Then three late goals pushed the final tally to nine when Jen Pearson chipped in number seven, Jodie
Hartley followed up a parried free-kick for number eight and Brown also chipped in her second to complete the scoring.

PUBS AND CLUBS JOIN ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN A campaign has been launched which aims to keep revellers safe on the streets of South Yorkshire over the festive season. The “Be A Safe Pedestrian” publicity drive, funded by the South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership, was launched last month across social media. Posters are set to be put up in more than 40 bars, clubs and pubs across Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley in the coming weeks. Joanne Wehrle, Safer Roads Education Manager for the South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership, said the campaign, now in its third year, is geared to young people, particularly students, who will be celebrating the run-up up to Christmas and the end
of term with nights out. She said: “We have been working closely with Sheffield Hallam University Students Union on this and listening to the views of students, who said that the best way to get messages out to people like them was through posters in the toilets of pubs and clubs – so this is what we decided to do. “After a few drinks it is not uncommon to see groups of young people in all our towns and cities spilling out onto the road without a thought for their own safety or for passing vehicle drivers. “The poster is simply reminding them about basic road safety in order to keep themselves and their friends safe. If they don’t, they risk becom-
ing a road casualty statistic and all that means for themselves and their families. “Drivers need to be careful too. They need to remember that some young pedestrians might not be able to think quickly and sensibly as they should.” The campaign is being specifically aimed at young people aged between 18 and 24 who, according to statistics, are particularly vulnerable pedestrians at night. Latest figures reveal that in the five-year period from 2011 to 2015 there were 447 casualties of this type on the roads of South Yorkshire, the majority of which, 251, involved someone being injured in Sheffield. The main factors said to have
contributed towards these collisions – as recorded by the police officer at the scene – included the pedestrian failing to look properly, the pedestrian being impaired by alcohol, the pedestrian being careless, the driver failing to look properly and the pedestrian crossing the road in a position that was masked by a stationary or parked vehicle.
Davey Silver, Welfare and Community Officer at Sheffield Hallam Students’ Union, said: “We’ve been very happy to work with Sheffield City Council on this campaign, which will benefit young people across the whole of South Yorkshire. “For a variety of reasons, young pedestrians are at an increased risk of being involved in this type of in-
