IS THE FUTURE OF YOUR CLUB SECURE? ARE YOU MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR CLUB? IS YOUR CLUB PROFITABLE? HOW CAN YOU MAKE POSITIVE CHANGES TO YOUR CLUB? WHAT CHANGES CAN YOU MAKE TO YOUR CLUB TO MAKE IT BETTER? Dear Secretary & Committee I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. I work with many clubs throughout the UK. Clubs will contact me (mainly on recommendation from other clubs) to discuss various different ideas they may have regarding the future of their club. As you know, recent years has seen a massive increase in the number of clubs having to close their doors and more often than not it’s because they left it too late to ask for advice. The smoking ban in particular brought about a rapid decline in trade together with massive overheads and brewery loans. I have been to clubs where they are even struggling to form a committee when once upon a time it was a privilege to be a committee member. My work involves assisting clubs who are financially challenged and clubs who are thriving. There are so many areas I can help with and I have a proven track record with impeccable testimonials from lots of clubs I have assisted in the past. If you think your club could benefit from some sound advice then call me today for a confidential no obligation chat on 07508 426 868. WORLD SNOOKER CHAMPIONSHIP HAS BOOSTED SHEFFIELD’S ECONOMY BY £100M OVER 40 YEARS Research commissioned by BBC Radio Sheffield has revealed the World Snooker Championship has boosted Sheffield’s economy by £100m since 1977. The annual championship has been held at the Crucible Theatre for 40 years and generates around 40,000 spectator admissions each year. Spectators from outside Sheffield spend £1.8m in the city on accommodation, food and drink, shopping, local travel and other

entertainment. Spectator spending coupled with that of the players, the media, officials and the costs of running the championship generates an annual economic impact of £2.6m. The research, conducted by Sheffield Hallam University’s Sport Industry Research Centre, shows that over the 40 years, there have been some 1.2m paid spectator admissions, with around three quarters of these by people visiting from outside Sheffield specifically to attend the

snooker. Every year the event generates more than 21,000 commercial bed-nights (in hotels, B&Bs and home rentals) in the city from visiting spectators, players, the media, and officials. Players have been known to purchase property in the city over the years; whilst some fans stay in Sheffield for the duration of the event. The Crucible first hosted the event in 1977 with 16 players competing over 13 days for a modest top prize of £6,000. This year,

the event will take place over 17 days for a top prize of £375,000. Now, according to researchers, Sheffield is well established as the home of snooker, and is regularly named “Snooker City”. The city also receives significant broadcast exposure from The Championship, with more than 100 hours of coverage on the BBC and Eurosport – which generates an estimated place marketing value of £3.2m for the city each year. Peak audiences for the final in recent

years have been 5-6m viewers in the UK; whilst globally The World Championship is broadcast in more than 80 countries by 23 broadcasters to an audience of 330m, giving Sheffield valuable international exposure. Councillor Mary Lea, cabinet member for culture, sport and leisure at Sheffield City Council, said: “I’m looking forward to what is sure to be an exciting 40th anniversary year of World Snooker here in Sheffield.”

QUEEN & ADAM LAMBERT ANNOUNCE SHEFFIELD DATE ON EUROPEAN TOUR Just weeks after announcing a 26-date summer tour of North America, Queen + Adam Lambert today revealed further live plans for 2017 which will now see the band return to Europe later this year for a series of 24 dates including a show at the Sheffield Arena on Friday 8th December 2017. The tour will showcase a spectacular new stage production and a set list, which the band hints will provide some surprises. Tickets go on general sale Friday 21st April 10am, priced £88.48 seated & £77.28 standing (including booking fee) online at www.sheffieldarena.co.uk, through the ticket hotline on 0114 256 56 56 or in person from the Sheffield Arena Box Office. These shows will mark the band’s first full British tour in almost three years, having last performed across the UK in January 2015 when they played 10 sold out shows. Their only UK appearance in 2016 was a one-off headlining set at the closing night of the Isle of Wight Festival on Sunday June 12, part of a 15-date European summer festival tour. Isle of Wight festival organizer John Giddings credited the band with “the greatest show we have ever had”. For their 2017 tour, the band will unveil a brand new show including a specially designed state-of-the-art production. The choice of performance material will no doubt acknowledge this year’s 40th anniversary

of Queen’s biggest-selling studio album to date, News of the World from 1977, which yielded the immortal anthems “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions”. Queen drummer and co-founder Roger Taylor insists the 2017 tour “will look entirely different to the show we took around before. Production has really changed a lot, the things you can do now, you have a much broader palette, the technology has really come along. But we don’t use it all. We don’t play to click track. It’s 100% live. We're planning on doing stuff we either haven't done before or haven't done for a long time. We started as an albums band, that's what we were. The fact that we had hits was just a byproduct.” Guitarist Brian May confirms Queen’s 2017 shows will have a more ambitious musical agenda. “The general public knows the hits, so you've got to cater for that,” he says, “but we can chuck in a few things that people really don't expect. We’ll do quite a bit more of that this time around. There are so many dimensions to Adam, which of course fits with our music. He can get down and do the rock stuff really dirty, and you have all those dimensions, and we can explore that even more.” Adam Lambert welcomes the challenge of digging deeper into the band’s canon of classics. “What people should know if they came to the shows a couple of years back, is obviously we will still be playing the big hit songs you know and love from Queen, but we thought it would be good to challenge ourselves a bit,” he explains. “Change it up a little bit, change the visuals, change all the technology, change the set list to some degree. We will probably be pulling some other songs out of the Queen catalogue which we haven’t done before, which I am very excited about.” Tickets for the Sheffield Arena show on Friday 8th December 2017 will go on general sale at 10am on Friday 21st April, priced £88.48 & £77.28 from www.sheffieldarena.co.uk & 0114 256 56 56.

The planet of love returns to your sign, and if you have gone through a period of deep reflection around what you want from your closest involvements, things can start to clear. However, some of your decisions may be rather surprising this week, even for you. Call for more astral advice...

This is a week with several major themes threaded through it, Libra. Relationships continue to be one of these, and you could find yourself having a change of mind around one particular person. Someone can also amaze you with what they say to you. Call now for more news and astral advice...

The New Moon in your sign is an opportunity to reinvigorate your personal hopes and ambitions. Yet as much as you may want to pick up momentum, staying sensitive to some of the underlying vibes in your situation is going to be as equally important. Call for more news and astral advice...

The New Moon in your opposite sign is a wonderful opportunity to supercharge your hopes around relationships and interactions with others. With the feisty energies of Mars gaining a toehold in your sign, you can feel more positive and also more energized. The trick is going to be in focusing this on what’s truly important. One of the first jobs of wedding planning – and arguably the most important job – will be looking at wedding venues. That’s why it’s important to ask these questions to venues when you’re on the search… Take your time when you look for venues. You want to get the place you love for the best price, which sounds a lot easier than it actually is. When you visit the hotels, fields, churches and castles, do it with your partner by your side, and make sure you’re happy you’ll get a good service. These must-ask questions will put you on the right track... Venue Capacity You need to find out how many people your venue can accommodate. The venue will be one of the first things you organise, and wedding plans change constantly, so even if you know you’re having a small number of guests, ask this question. It might only accommodate for 20 and you want 80. Ask if you can change the number of people attending nearer the date too; you don’t know how many of your guests will be able to make it after all.

to ask about hidden fees here too! Some venues have a ‘corkage’ fee if you bring your own alcohol. If you hire your own caterers, ask if there are kitchen facilities available – if caterers have to bring in their own refrigerators and ovens, they might charge extra. What dates are available? If you have your heart set on a particular date and your venue is available on that day, still ask this question. You might discover they’re available on a bank holiday weekend or the price is considerably better on a different day. Do you have a list of suppliers? Sometimes venues will have a list of ‘preferred’ or ‘recommended’ suppliers. It’s important for your suppliers to work well together so it might be worth referring to this as much as possible. Also, if your venue recommends them, they are probably good suppliers to use.

Can we setup the day before? This is a question your suppliers may ask you. Find out when you first book with your venue, and plan your day logically in your head. Ask them about how the whole process works What are the full costs/extra fees? with them. THE SEVEN EARLY SIGNS FOR SPOTTING DEMENTIA Becoming forgetful from time to time is a relatively normal part of the ageing process. However, there are some cases where an increasingly severe memory loss, amongst several other symptoms, can be an early sign of dementia. Recent reports have highlighted a failing sense of direction in particular as a key early indicator of the condition, which researchers are now using to attempt to design the first ever test for dementia. Dementia is a general term which describes a decline in mental ability, with impairments to thinking, communicating and memory. This can begin to interfere with daily life. There are currently 850,000 people in the UK living with dementia, according to the Alzheimer’s Society– a number which is set to rise to over a million in the next ten years. There are hundreds of types of dementia, with Alzheimer’s being the most wellknown and common condition, making up around 60-80% of cases. There are a wide range of symptoms that an individual may experience. Each person is affected differently, with no two people experiencing the same range or impact of symptoms. Personality, social situation, and general health are all significant factors in determining the impact dementia can have on a person.

There are ways to recognise the onset of dementia in a loved one. According to the NHS, here are seven early signs: 1. Memory loss One of the most common early signs of dementia is memory loss which begins to disrupt daily life – particularly short term memory changes, such as forgetting recently learnt information, forgetting messages, or struggling to remember routes or names. 2. Difficulty performing familiar tasks Taking on familiar tasks that are normally carried out on a daily basis at home, work or as leisure activities, such as getting dressed in the morning, can become increasingly difficult to complete. 3. Confusion and disorientation with time and place A failing sense of direction, spatial orientation and the resulting confusion are common signs of the onset of dementia. This can include losing track of the passage of time or forgetting important dates and events, as well as those living with dementia forgetting where they are, regardless of how familiar their location may be. They may also struggle to recall how they got there and how they can return. Disorientation can make it harder to follow a series of directions or instructions. 4. Changes in mood, behaviour and personality

WELL WELL WELL WHERE ELSE? Spanish week and Oscar week, singing and dancing, husky dogs and seals. It all sounds a little too much fun for a dementia center doesn’t it? Well, not at Age UK Sheffield’s Wellbeing Centre, where local people living with memory loss and dementia visit for days which stimulate their minds whilst providing family members with a few hours to do some chores or do something for themselves. Local news headlines have been dominated recently by the closure of Hurlfield View respite center for people with dementia. But Age UK Sheffield Chief Executive, Steve Chu, is determined not to be downbeat. “It is understandable that people who were supported by Hurlfield View are worried about the future,” he said. “Clearly, times are tough for the social care sector, in Sheffield and nationally. What we have to do is ensure some alternatives are available to provide support for people who need it. That is why we’re really proud of the Wellbeing Centre. We are determined to ensure it provides high quality support for people with memory loss, in a friendly and welcoming environment. We know it costs a little more than a place at a standard day centre, but families tell us it is well worth it for the impact it has on our customers.” Free taster sessions are now available at the Centre which provides a warm welcome to anyone living with mild to moderate dementia. The Centre is open Monday to Friday, 9.30 – 3.30 at the Centre in the Park, Norfolk Park. Email enquiries@ageuksheffield.org.uk Call 0114 2502850 for more details.

The Alzhimer’s Society run regular dementia cafes in venues right across Sheffield. Call them on - 0114 2768414 Age UK Sheffield can provide information and advice to people aged 50 or over living with dementia, and their carers - Call 0114 2502850 The Sheffield Dementia Action Alliance is a partnership of local organisations committed to a dementia friendly city. Sheffield launched their Dementia Action Alliance on 29th April 2013. We now have over 100 members from all sections of the community including business, faith, public, private, voluntary and charity sectors. Dementia Action Alliance captures and promotes best practice, enabling it to benefit many more people. We facilitate our members to take action on dementia through Action Plans. We also enable our members to come together to share best practice and learn from each other through regular events – from conferences and expert-led roundtables to workshops and webinars. We campaign on major issues within health and social care to create systemwide change, and ensure that dementia does not prevent people from living the lives they wish to.

As dementia tends to affect judgement, visible changes to a loved one’s mood and personality can be a common sign of the condition. They may be exhibiting rapid and unprovoked mood swings, with depression being a typical sign of early dementia. 5. Problems with communication Simple, day-to-day conversations can become a struggle for those experiencing early signs of dementia. They can face difficulties with words, expression and explanation, and they may find it hard to join or follow conversation. 6. Apathy They may begin to withdraw from or lose interest in work, social activities, or their once-loved hobbies. 7. Loss of Judgement Loss of judgement can be a sign and a symptom of dementia. A loved one may be showing signs of making inappropriate decisions, as a result of being unable to evaluate and consider their actions and the consequences as before.

The Prime Minister has hinted that existing diesel car drivers will not be penalised if attempts are made to reduce the environmental impact of these vehicles. Theresa May said she is aware that people have been encouraged to purchase diesel vehicles in the past, and this needs to be taken into account when future decisions on the cars are made. However, despite her remarks, nothing has been formally decided about the steps the Government will take in relation to diesel cars. By April 24, revised clean air plans will need to be provided by ministers. This follows a court ruling that plans to meet EU air quality limits do not go far enough. The environmental consequences of using diesel cars have come under heavy scrutiny in recent months, with Mayor of London Sadiq Khan suggesting drivers of polluting vehicles may face a charge from 2019 when travelling around the capital. The governments of the late 1990s and early 2000s encouraged drivers to consider switching away from petrol cars to diesel – something the current Prime Minister appears aware of. Mrs May said: “In relation to the issue of diesel cars, obviously we will be producing a new air quality plan, we’ve been required to do that by the courts. “Decisions will be taken when we produce that plan – obviously we will take final decisions as to what we do. But I’m very conscious of the fact that past governments

have encouraged people to buy diesel cars and we need to take that into account when we’re looking at what we do in the future.” A government report released this time last year warned that some diesel cars being sold in the UK may be capable of emitting six times more nitrogen oxide in real-world conditions, compared to the legal limit used in official tests. According to Mr Khan’s plans for the capital, drivers of all but the newest diesel cars could be liable for a £12.50 charge to drive within his proposed ultra-low emissions zone. Black taxis are likely to be the only vehicles exempt from the new charges.

with Clint Walker

A week of vastly differing fortunes this week, starting poorly, and finishing with a ‘lump’ of unexpected proportions, sadly, not a fish! I headed off to a local reservoir for my first session, a windswept seventy odd acres, with depths to well over thirty feet, from which I’ve had good catches of roach in years gone by. When I arrived, I was alone, something which always gets me wondering if ‘they’ know something I don’t, but nevertheless, loaded the barrow, and got stuck into the long walk to the desired peg. I usually fish the ‘tip here, clipped up for accuracy, and alternate between a maggot feeder, and groundbait, until I find what is preferred. On this particular day, it didn’t really matter, as the tip of my rod remained stationary for much of the day, only twitching four times to indicate a bite. The net result, two bream, and two perch… no wonder no-one else was there! My second visit was to a ‘banker’ venue, a water so easy, it is surely possible to talk nicely to the carp, and they will obligingly jump into the net. Guess what? Yup, I blanked… I tried everything, swapping from pellet to maggot, corn to boilie, but to no avail. I tried baiting with a lot, I tried baiting with a little, but they were just not interested; I wasn’t alone in my failings, and angler after angler trooped past on their way back to the car park as they all struggled to score. Throughout the day, only a couple of carp and bream were landed, but not by me; I noted barely a bleep or a twitch of my rods. I can only put it down to preceding cold nights, and a hurricane force wind tearing across the water, which changed direction every time I moved my umbrella to keep it off… obviously, nothing to do with my limited skills! So, it was out for a third time, my hand forced by a requirement from the features editor of Angler’s Mail to get a photograph for a contribution due to be published soon, which needed a new picture. If you do read my regular columns, you’ll probably be aware that I enjoy all kinds of angling, and have a soft spot for light lure work, especially on small, intimate, waters, so I set off for the canal. I had some worms left over from earlier in the week, and although I love dropshot fishing, I’ve never really tried it with worms, so thought I would have a go. Within seconds of putting the bait in the water, a solid thump saw me lift a perch of around six ounces from the canal. Job done. Picture taken, perch caught. I had another hour on the stretch, taking perch from almost every swim, as they snapped and snarled around my worm hook baits; brilliant fun, and a real eye opener as the marketing would have you believe that to dropshot properly, it must be done with a multitude of brightly coloured plastic offerings! I moved on, another reservoir, a favourite, and another ‘banker’ water. I still had a few worms left, and threaded a full dendrobeana around the bend of a (small) size 8 fine wire Mustad hook. A 3g weight on the end, and it was lowered into fifteen feet of water. WHAM! The tip of my rod bounced down towards the water, and another greedy sergeant battled up from the depths, the worm flailing from its mouth

as it spun upwards. This was brilliant, why on earth hadn’t I tried it before? I found the fish in pockets, plundering a dozen here, a few there, working my way around the floating jetties upon which I stood, as the worm baits were hungrily snapped up by hordes of fish, most of which were around 6-8ozs. SPLASH! I glanced up to see a lady slip and fall from the jetty into twenty feet of freezing water; luckily, the lifejacket she wore inflated, and she bobbed back to the surface, coughing and spitting out cold, murky water as the ranger and I ran to help. The unfortunate woman was clinging to the woodwork, unable to get out of the water, weighed down by sodden clothing, and shocked by still bitterly cold water. We both grabbed an arm each, a handful of trousers, and heaved the lady out of the water and back onto the floating dock where she quickly recovered her breath. The episode was over in seconds, and luckily, no real harm was done, but the consequences, had Ray and I not seen her, could have been very different; a lesson learned, and by far my biggest ever ‘catch’ from the venue! I returned to my fishing, watched by a very friendly chap called Adam, who explained he was new to dropshot fishing, and was watching to see what tips he could pick up (from me, of all people!) As we chatted, I explained that I’d changed from drop shot to a light jig head (the result of snagging the bottom) and threaded a worm onto the hook, which was being gently twitched across the lake bed. No sooner had I said the words, a huge hit saw the rod tip pulled sharply downwards, and the slower, plodding, fight of a bigger perch was joined. After a couple of minutes, a very pleasing lump of perch came to the surface, well worn, a real warrior with tales to tell, tired, and ready for the net. Both Adam and I were very pleased with such a fat fish, and we both enjoyed a minute or two as the prize was photographed and weighed before slipping it gently back for someone else to catch. The batteries in my scales were completely flat, so the fish was ‘guesstimated’ using a small spring balance at around 1lb 12oz, maybe more, maybe less; not a huge fish by any means, but perfectly timed, and very good fun on light tackle. A few more smaller fish followed to take me to around fifty perch, before it was time to pack up, so I spent a few minutes watching Adam try a variety of tiny lures. He couldn’t get a bite on imitations, and despite going through a number of options, failed to get a fish; perhaps I’ll try worms again, they seem to work very well, especially when the fish are not keen on rubber…

TIGERS SEE OFF IPWICH IN MAGNIFICENT OWLERTON DISPLAY SHEFFIELD produced a magnificent display to see off a powerful Ipswich side 57-33 at Owlerton. For the second week in succession, the Window Centre Tigers dominated their opponents - despite not being at full strength. Already without usual reserve Rob Branford due to Premiership commitments, Sheffield then lost the services of Josh Bates whose partner was rushed into labour just hours before the meeting. But as Brady Kurtz did last week, Edinburgh’s Mark Riss proved to be a super guest booking, scoring a brilliant 14+1 from reserve. With captain Kyle Howarth also going unbeaten, it was a true team performance throughout - much to the delight of team boss Simon Stead. “After the disappointment of our defeat at Workington last weekend, that was just the response I was looking for and more,” Stead said. “Mark was exceptional for us tonight and we thank him for standing in at reserve. “Kyle really impressed me once again but there were so many positives from all areas of the team. “Ipswich are a really strong side in this league - yet we’ve just beat them pretty comfortably in the end! “I’ve been drilling it into the lads how important good gating is in big meetings like that - and tonight they were great out of the starts. “But the general

performance was very pleasing again tonight and we’ve showed that Owlerton is going to be a tough place to come for any side!” Riss secured three race wins out of seven and was involved in two particular thrilling battles with Ipswich racer Cameron Heeps. Captain Kyle Howarth won all four of his outings as he extended his run of double figure scores for the Tigers in 2017. Josh Grajczonek did well to hold onto his machine in his first ride after pulling a locker

on bends one and two, but recovered superbly to go unbeaten by an opposition rider. Lasse Bjerre earned a heat 15 nomination after storming to backto-back race wins in his final two programmed rides. Todd Kurtz had another solid night while Jack Parkinson-Blackburn helped the Tigers take the lead early on after holding off former Australian International Rory Schlein for a big 5-1 maximum with Howarth. The Tigers will hope to take the momentum

from the result against the Witches when they head to Newcastle on Sunday.

WARNE PROUD OF MILLERS MILLERS boss Paul Warne was quick to express his pride at his side’s display at the Madejski Stadium despite suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Reading. The Millers looked on course to register just their second away points of the season after Tom Adeyemi’s close range strike gave them an interval lead. Despite ‘keeper Richard O’Donnell producing a string of fine saves to deny the Royals an equaliser, sub Lewis Grabban came back to haunt his former club with a fantastic volley from the edge of the box to level matters. Amid further home pressure, Millers’ resistance was broken when another former Miller, John Swift tapped home into an unguarded net for the decisive winner following a fine flowing home move. Despite the Millers slipping to another away loss, Warne was heartened by his side’s performance against Jaap Stam’s play-off chasing outfit.

“I was pretty proud to be honest,” Warne enthused. “I’m disappointed with the result but I’m uberproud with the performance. I think we set up the best we could and went toe-for-toe with a really good team, that’s my overall feeling. “The lads did what we asked them to do and they cannot give me any more than they gave me.” Following their hard-fought draw with Birmingham City on Good Friday, Warne recalled Adeyemi to the starting line-up and the move paid dividends as the Cardiff loanee struck his sixth goal of the season. With the Millers more than holding their own against the Berkshire outfit in the first half, Warne admitted he was more than happy in going into the break- a goal to the good. “We set up with a 4-1-4-1 and obviously everyone knows how good Reading are with the ball, especially at home, where they have been pretty formidable,” Warne added.

WARNE AND POLLITT SET FOR RED AND WHITE SHOP MEET AND GREET

sign autographs and pose for photos with supporters. First team boss Warne expressed his delight at the opportunity to meet with the fans that have shown their support to his side during what he admits has been a tough season. “It is always nice to put names to the faces of those people that come down and give us their backing every week,” he told www.themillers. co.uk. “I have said numerous times since my appointment that I want to make Rotherham feel ‘United’ and establish a real connection between the playing staff and the fans and vice-versa. “We are already a club that is very active in the community and I am keen to ensure that players that come here in future really feel a part of the town.”

Rotherham United will host another meet and greet in the Red and White Shop with first team manager Paul Warne and goalkeeping coach Mike Pollitt this Thursday 20th. The pair, who enjoyed time as players together at Rotherham United during a successful era for the club, were reunited on the coaching staff earlier this season and will be on hand to meet supporters old and new on Thursday afternoon. Warne and Pollitt are set to join us in the Red and White Shop at 1:30pm, where they will

FERGUSON POST BLACKPOOL Darren Ferguson is confident Rovers have what it takes to clinch the Sky Bet League Two title. Rovers were beaten 1-0 by Blackpool at the Keepmoat Stadium thanks to Jordan Flores’ last-minute spot-kick, but still lead second-placed Plymouth Argyle by three points with as many games left of the season. “I am still really confident that we can go on and win the league, we can’t let the result against Blackpool affect us, we just have to make sure we get enough points to finish the job off,” said Ferguson. “If you look at the games us and Plymouth have left, you’d probably say that we have the harder run-in,

WRIGHT LEARNING FROM PAIR Joe Wright has learnt a lot from fellow defenders Mathieu Baudry and Andy Butler in his first season with the club. Wright stepped in for Butler in the loss to Blackpool and pinpointed the tips he has taken from the pair as vital for his future development. “I’ve tried to take things from both of them as they’re very different players, I’d like to blend what I’ve learnt from both as I believe that would improve me as a defender,” he said. “I was pleased with my personal performance, it has been a tough season for me with Andy and Frenchy forging such a strong partnership so I’ve had to be patient. “I’m confident playing with either a back three

we knew that Colchester and Blackpool were going to be hard games, “It doesn’t really affect us though, we need two wins out of three games so we have to make sure that we cope with that challenge and finish the job off.” Rovers had to play the majority of the second period with 10 men after Matty Blair was sent off for collecting two yellow cards, and Ferguson believed the red card changed the course of the game. “I feel we have been a bit hard done by, the game changes on the red card and I felt we would have came out in the second half and won the game,” he said. “We were the dominant side in the first half, with some good openings and we did what we needed to do and we looked fairly solid, especially defending their corners. “Even at 10 men I did not think there was much threat from them, we defended superbly and I thought we’d see it through, but unfortunately some decisions did not go our way.”

or four, I’ve done both in the early stages of my career so I’d like to think the gaffer is comfortable with putting me in.” It was a tale of two penalties at the Keepmoat Stadium as Blackpool missed their first but scored their second to condemn Rovers to just their second home defeat of the season – and Wright believed they were unfortunate not to take something from the game. “Once we went down to 10 men the game changed completely, we had to sit off them and defend as a team but even then I thought we were unlucky as they didn’t really cause us any problems,” he added. “Every game is tough, we treat them all the same in the sense that we want to win it. It doesn’t make a difference as a professional, you’re determined to win no matter what. “We’re in a great position and we’d have taken this if we’d been offered it at the start of the year, it’s all in our hands and that’s the way we want it.”

“I knew we would not have much of the ball but I thought we may have enough to create a chance or two. “When I went in at half-time, I felt pretty comfortable. The lads did really well and I thought we looked pretty resolute.” However, Stam’s men stepped up the pace after the interval and although O’Donnell was in defiant move, Grabban made an immediate impression from the bench by notching the equaliser before Swift left the Millers still searching for their just second point of the season with the winner- to the disappointment of the Millers supremo. “It took a wonder goal for them to get back into the game and then unfortunately, they cut us open again, when we were sleeping a little bit,” Warne added. “To come here against a side, who are going to be in the play-offs and who are bringing on players like Grabban, when we were a little tired and obviously that had a massive effect. “Their equalising goal was pretty special. I thought it would take something like that to break us down today. They scored another one but then in the last eight or nine minutes, we were in the ascendency.”

Despite the league nearing its conclusion, happenings are not slowing down in the County Senior League. This week we had 15 league games and an all-County Senior League S&HCFA Association Cup Final. S&HCFA Association Cup Final Once again the Association Cup final was an allCounty Senior League affair. AFC Penistone Church of the Premier Division took on Dodworth Miners Welfare FC of Division Two North at Emley FC on Monday night. The league difference appeared not to matter though, with the game ending 1-1 after 90 minutes. After a further 30 minutes the two teams could still not be split, with the game ending 2-2. Dodworth won the game 5-3 on penalties adding the Association Cup to the Division Two North title they won at the weekend, to mark a faultless maiden season in the County Senior League. Premier Division Champions elect Swallownest FC highlighted their dominance this season by beating defending champions and second placed Frecheville 3-0 away from home midweek. Swallownest now have a 15 lead atop the Premier Division, having won 22 of their 25 games this season. Stocksbridge Park Steels Reserves could not take advantage of Frecheville’s slip to take second place, as they were held to 1-1 draw at home against North Gawber Colliery. Association Cup finalists AFC Penistone Church were beaten 2-1 at the Memorial Ground against Handsworth Parramore Reserves. A Joe Sidebottom hat-trick inspired Houghton Main to a 4-1 home win against Athersley Recreation Reserves. Ben Day was also on target for Houghton Main. Division One The Division One title race continues to be one of the most intriguing of recent years. After this weekend we are really no nearer to finding out who will triumph. This weekend league leaders Grimethorpe Sports were beaten 4-3 away against third bottom Davy FC. They maintain top spot though, as second placed South Kirkby Colliery were also beaten, losing 3-2 against Caribbean Sports. Next up, South Kirkby host Grimethorpe midweek. Oughtibridge WMFC climbed into second paced for the time being, and claimed promotion, after a 4-0 away win over Hemsworth Miners Welfare Reserves. Ecclesfield Red Rose 1915 sit just two points outside the top three with one game left, after they beat Sheffield Bankers 1-0 at the Hillsborough Park Arena. Midweek, the Bankers had drawn 3-3 with Hemsworth at the same venue. Brisnworth Whitehill and Silkstoen United shared the spoil after a 1-1 draw at the Phoenix Sports Club. Division Two North Third placed Hepworth United were 6-0 winners against Worsbrough Bridge Athletic Development on Saturday. The result leaves Hepworth three points outside a play-off place with a game to play. They have a superior goal difference compared to Stocksbridge Park Steels Development, who have completed their fixtures for the season. The aforementioned Worsbrough have had quite the week, as they had previously beaten South Kirkby Colliery Reserves 8-0 on Wednesday night. Goals from Daniel Henighan, Kyle Snowden, Hydan Musgrave and Gareth Newton gave Euroglaze FC a 4-0 win over Wombwell Main Development. The result confirms a fourth placed finish for Euroglaze. Division Two South Goals from Jordan Cocks and James Lawton gave Kiveton Park a 2-1 win over champions elect Sheffield Medics. The win means Kiveton finish in third place. The loss is the Medics second-in-a-row after confirming the place as league winners. Next Fixtures Wednesday 19th April Premier Division Houghton Main v AFC Penistone Church Division One South Kirkby Colliery v Grimethorpe Sports Division Two North Hepworth United v Bawtry Town Thursday 20th April League Cup Final Swallownest FC v Brinsworth Whitehill (at the Memorial Ground, Penistone KO7:30pm)

CHAMPIONS!!! Chris Wilder was again full of praise for his players, following the 28th win of the campaign, this time over Bradford City on Easter Monday. Leon Clarke netted a brace to take his tally to five in his last four matches, whilst skipper Billy Sharp scored his 27th of the season as United set a new club record for most wins in a season. And Wilder was understandably delighted post-match, he remarked: “We turned up and performed again and I’m not surprised. I said we’d down tools after the Chesterfield game

and not before and we are still working hard. “I thought we were excellent and the goals we scored were fantastic. Bradford are a decent side and we didn’t give them a chance of getting a result, I could pick spots if I wanted but I don’t, it was a great effort. “It is another terrific result and fitting for the supporters that have backed us in incredible numbers throughout the season.” The Blades boss added: “I ask a lot from the players in terms of the functional stuff, but I personally believe we are the best footballing

side in the division, at times we’re unplayable. “We’ve got some talented individuals in the squad they’ve gelled together unbelievably well. The way we play as a team, both in and out of possession has been excellent all season, we’re versatile and able to adapt to different circumstances within games. “To be crowned Champions on Saturday and to produce a performance like that, these are memorable moments for everyone connected with the club that should live with us all forever.”

UNDER 18S IN PLAYOFF ACTION PHASE 2 ON SALE There will be Blades in action at Bramall Lane later this week. United’s U18s, who won the Professional Development League 2 (North) title by 14 points, host Charlton Athletic in the semi-

finals of the end of season play-offs on Friday 21st April, kick-off 7pm. This is a repeat of last season’s semifinal, which saw the Addicks come out on top on penalties at

The Valley, following a 1-1 stalemate after 90 minutes plus extratime. Admission, as per U23 fixtures at the Lane, is free to season ticket holders and U16s, otherwise its £3 adults, with

tickets available to purchase from outside the turnstiles of the Hualing Stand, cash only. The winners of this tie will face either Coventry City or Sheffield Wednesday in the final.

Sheffield United have moved into the next phases of the Forged in Faith season ticket initiative following promotion to the Championship. After phase one, which ended following the game on Saturday, the Club has announced details of phases two and three, which are now on sale. There will be a 10% increase on current prices for phase two (with the same three categories of renewal, returning fan and new) and a 15% increase on current prices for phase three. Phase two finishes on the 31st May, which will also be the deadline for fans to claim their current seats. Phase three, which will commence on the 1st June, will be one price for everyone and

continue until the start of next season. It will mean that adults, who renew during phase two, can watch the Blades from £13.78 a game. Prices for juniors will continue to start from as little as £1.74 per game. Fans also now can purchase season tickets in the Westfield Health Upper Corner. WHAT NEXT FOR SQUAD? WEEKLY BLADES COLUMN BY ANDREW SMITH

This United team continues to surprise me. Promotion and the title are secured and this outcome has looked likely for a number of months, but still this side prove doubters wrong, including myself. In my last column on April 6th, I wrote: ‘The success of United’s recruitment over the summer is a big reason why the club is ready to take the step up. The

recruitment has been so impressive, that I can only outline Leon Clarke as under-performing when given a chance in the team.’ The day after that article was filed Clarke scored a vital goal against Coventry to spark a run which has seen him score five goals in four games. Goals which have ultimately helped the Blades over the line in their hunt for promotion. I am happy to be

proven wrong, and with the track record Chris Wilder has in getting the most out of his players, I was foolish to doubt his faith in Clarke. The 32-year-old has given Wilder a conundrum heading into the summer, two weeks ago Clarke’s United career looked bleak. Now, the former-Wednesday player has staked a claim to be a part of United’s set up in the Championship next season. Promotion is likely to lead to an increased spending power

at Bramall Lane, and despite Billy Sharp’s remarkable efforts and Clarke’s resurgence, a striker should be at the top of the summer shopping list. Recruitment will be a huge factor in whether United can succeed where previous champions such as Charlton, Doncaster Rovers and Wigan have failed. However, from now on I will be reserving judgement on his signings until they have a run in the team.

WE HAVE A STRONG MENTALITY Carlos Carvalhal praised his side’s mentality following the Owls’ 2-1 win over QPR at Loftus Road. Wednesday took the lead when Adam Reach smashed home from close range in the first half but the R’s levelled through Idrissa Sylla. The Owls were soon back in front when Daniel Pudil headed what proved the winner to seal a fourth victory in a row for the visitors.

Carvalhal said: “We knew that this would be one of our more difficult games. “To play away against a technical team like QPR is not easy. “We had to be very strong mentally in this game and I am very happy that we did this, because this is how we won the three points today. “We know have four wins in a row, and in the five games since the international break

we have not lost. He added: “We are in a good way at this point in the season, and we will continue to focus on ourselves in these last three games. “I want to say thank you to our fans because they were fantastic today throughout the game. “They follow us very strongly home and away and they help us to do well, because at the end we just want to do well for them.”

BATTLING FOR EACH OTHER Wednesday fought hard to secure a vital three points on Easter Monday at Loftus Road and Daniel Pudil has praised the character, battling spirit and togetherness of the squad.

After a spell on the sidelines with injury, Pudil has returned to action in fine form, producing a Man of the Match display against Newcastle and scoring a crucial goal against Queen Park Rangers. The Owls left the capital with a 2-1 victory to maintain position in the top six and Pudil said: “We showed our character, we battled for every single ball, we dealt with the crosses into the box and we are happy. “The team is the most important thing. We stick together, fight for each other, we battled for every ball, we have the three points and that’s all that matters. “I thought we played very well in the first half and we should have scored more than two goals. “We were under pressure in the second, it was difficult but we worked hard for each other and got the three points.” On his goal which regained the Owls’ advantage against the Hoops – Pudil’s second goal of the campaign - he continued:

2016/17

“It felt good, I haven’t been playing for a while and now I am trying to enjoy myself on the pitch. “We came through a tough match and that shows a lot about us as a group.”
