Your personal drive and energy can increase, but more so if you can remain resolutely focused on what’s really possible. A draining link between the Sun and Neptune can be distracting. Clearing up loose ends, de-cluttering and letting go of old emotions can all help. Call for more advice…
Your physical vitality may still be on the low side. Mars moving into your opposite sector can be good for engaging with others in a more proactive way, and Venus gives you an added slice of charm and glamour midweek. But, look to narrow your focus where possible Capricorn. Call for more…
Group involvements and social activities can be boosted by the arrival of Mercury in Gemini, but Neptune is continuing to distort things, so look to steer clear of any situation which is bogged down with politics. Look to manage your time more effectively Leo. Call for more advice…

STEP BACK IN TIME AT RETROFESTIVAL After eight years at White Waltham and two successful years at Newbury Show Ground, Retro Festival have decided to bring the largest retro event in the UK further north to Newark on the 9/10/11 June. If the line-up is anything to go by this years Retro Festivals will cement their place as the biggest festivals of all things vintage in the UK. If you have never been to the Retro Festival you are in for a treat. The show ground will be full of exhibits with over 1,000 classic cars, American RV’s, vintage caravans, Hot Rods, Airstream Caravans, Portafold Caravans, Steam Engines, a vintage 100 year old funfair, army re-enactors, plus over 200 vintage stalls selling everything from clothes
to furniture. Add this to three live music marquees, Spitfire Pavilion – 1920’s to 1940’s swing and Jive, The Black Hangar – 1950’s Rock n Roll and exclusively for the Newark event a new Alternative Outdoor Stage. On this stage the Friday night has been taken over by the popular Parka’s club night with the emphasis on 1960’s mod sounds with live performances from Union Gap, The Foremost and the Ready Steady 60’s. Saturday sees the welcome return of Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band alongside Birdwood, The Small Fakers and Big Stuff Soul Band, plus more. Sunday sees The Team aka The Edwin Starr Band, The Signatures, SKA Britannia and The R ‘n’ Beatles. The ever popular Black Hangar marquee will be as busy as usual with dance classes by Swingstyle and live music from Si Cranstoun, Rockin’em, The
Revolutionaires, Moonshiners, Richie and the Rockets, Greggi G and his Crazy Gang, The Blazin’ Aces and Bo Walton and Red Alert. Wow, something for everyone, no wonder it is rammed day and night if that lineup is anything to go by! The Spitfire Pavilion is where we can get really retro with everything from the 1920’ through to the 40’s with even a Vintage Allsort’s tasty tearoom positioned inside, adding to the nostalgic atmosphere. Once inside the Spitfire Pavilion you’ll be enchanted by the sounds of yesteryear. There is live music from the roaring 1920’s, swinging 30’s and evocative 40’s to keep your dancing feet busy. There are classes from the best dance schools around, so even if you’re a novice you can join in the fun if you fancy a boogie. There’ll be plenty of seats around if you’d prefer to have some tea and cake, watch our fabulous line up and soak in the atmosphere. On Saturday evening, the Spitfire Pavilion hosts their own ‘Spitfire Cabaret’. Transporting you back to the days of vaudeville they have the best talent on the cabaret scene for your viewing pleasure. Expect glamorous burlesque beauties, tap dancing, songs from the music hall, not to mention skills from top circus acts. If you are
vintage fashion lover you will not have to miss the Spitfire Fashion show taking place on Sunday where the traders will be showcasing their latest fashion pieces. If that wasn’t enough at Newark there will be an air display by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, a fly past by the Red Arrows, plus 3 aerobatic flying display teams. Along with helicopter flights, you just wont know where to look! If the show at Newbury is anything to go by Newark has not seen anything like this before. The show will appeal for everyone from families to adults and with an 11pm finish each night it must be one of the best value festivals in the country. To underline the attempt to be the best value festival in the UK, under 11’s go free! The great news is that camping is available at both shows and last year there was over 6,000 people staying in their tents/caravans or even in one of the glamping Brook Bell Tents available. There is even on-site security to make sure your weekend goes off without any trouble and you can feel safe leaving your possessions in your tent. This year with the bookings so far Retro Festival have hired another 44 acre field next to the show ground to accommodate the influx of campers. Don’t worry if you
are concerned that camping might ruin your hairstyle as there is even an onsite hairdresser to keep you looking fabulous throughout the day and night. Handy if you want to enter into the best dressed competition! Weekend, Day or Night tickets are available so if you can only make one day get there early as there is so much to see and do. As well as the fantastic show the Retro Festival put on they have also, over the last few years raised over £50,000 for local children’s charities and this years event will help raise money for The Children’s Bereavement Centre, through sales of specially designed
t-shirts and other fundraising activities over the weekend. The other year organisers raffled off a Steve McQueen replica Triumph Bonneville! Event organiser Paul Jezard says, “We have been looking for a more northern venue for some time and have been lucky enough to find the fantastic Newark Showground. We are transporting our fantastic show to Newark and we couldn’t be more excited.” We’re excited too Paul. We can’t wait to get on that dance floor and boogie the night away. Tickets available at www.retrofestival.co.uk

TRAMLINES ANNOUNCE THREE BRAND NEW STAGES FOR 2017 Tramlines Festival continue to pull out all the stops for 2017 with the addition of 3 brand new stages. The Hallam Shuttle, the Momentum Music Fund Tent and Into The Trees. The ‘Hallam Shuttle’ is a new take on the hugely popular moving stage, the Busker’s Bus, which last took to the road back in 2014. A partnership with Hallam University has allowed the return of this moving stage for 2017. On the Hallam Shuttle, the normally mundane experience of bussing around Sheffield city becomes vibrant part of the festival experience. A bus will connect the main stage at Ponderosa Park with the Folk Forest at Endcliffe Park, running throughout Saturday and Sunday. This bus will include one-off performances from bands and solo acts, programmed and managed by Sheffield Hallam students. The bus will operate free of charge for anyone with a Tramlines wristband. Full times to be confirmed later, keep an eye on Tramlines social media channels. During the event, tweet your pictures of the festival using #DiscoverTramlines to appear on the big
screens at the main stage. Also, look out for Sheffield Hallam’s festival freebies, a competition to win a pair of Snapchat spectacles. ‘We’re really pleased to be working with Sheffield Hallam again and especially pleased to have the Shuttle bus. We know from feedback that the Busker’s Bus has been missed, and it’s a great opportunity for us to showcase more local talent and improve the festival experience.’ – Sarah Nulty, Festival Director. The Momentum Music Fund Tent, supported by PRS Foundation is a brand new stage located at Devonshire Green in the city centre. The Momentum Music Fund, which is run by PRS Foundation using public funds from Arts Council England, support from PPL, and is in association with Spotify, offers grants of up to £15k for artists and bands to break through to the next level of their careers. Their stage at Tramlines will feature acts who have benefitted from the fund, all emerging UK artists who have built significant momentum in their careers so far. Artists performing on the stage on Friday include; Champion an East London grime, house and UK funky producer, Ms Banks a South London rapper, and Mista Silva, a Ghanaaian influenced singer songwriter. On Sunday experimental Bahrainians, Flamingods will take to the stage alongside a DJ set from Nubiyan Twist, the sibling led Cattle & Cane, Jerry Williams and Brighton based Our Girl. Saturday programming for this area will come from Tramlines with a focus on local and emerging talent. In addition to their stage, PRS Foundation are hosting a Momentum Music Fund panel at The Foundry on Saturday 22nd July, 12-4pm. The schedule will include two sessions, discussing
progression routes, funding opportunities, and tips The first, second and third tier tickets for Tramlines on how to get ‘Momentum-ready’. Guests will 2017 sold out in record time but the fourt h release include Momentum funded artist Coco and manager tickets are still available, priced at just Adele Armitage, representatives from Momentum partners Arts Council England, Sarah Jamieson (DIY £49.50 + booking fee from www.tramlines.org.uk Magazine), and Joe Frankland (PRS Foundation). Into The Trees is an intimate new area located at the main stage on Ponderosa Park. Featuring genrebusting party-starting DJs for those who want to get their dancing shoes on during the daytime. On Saturday is The Reflex, a disco re-fixer who can claim Noel Gallagher as a fan and has material regularly played on BBC 6 Music by Craig Charles. Also performing on Sat is The Heatwave, a dancehall collective with a London twist on the traditional Jamaican sound. Local support comes from Leroy. Legend of the UK reggae scene Don Letts will hold court on Sunday alongside multi-genre selectors Reasons to be Cheerful Soundsystem and Sheffield party starters Thirsty Ear. Also performing on Sunday is Alexander Nut, long time Rinse FM resident and boss of Eglo Records.

BUSINESSES IN SHEFFIELD URGED TO GET BEHIND COMMUNITY FARMS & GARDENS Sheffield Businesses, big and small, are being urged to take action to support their local community growing groups, many of which struggle to make ends meet. Katie Rushworth, who co-presents ITV’s Love Your Garden with Alan Titchmarsh, is launching the ‘Business Heroes’ campaign with a new video and toolkit, explaining how businesses can benefit and offering practical advice about how to get involved. Encouraging Sheffield companies to get involved is a key focus of the campaign, thanks to the city’s already active community growing movement, which includes Heely City Farm, Manor Oaks Farm and SAGE Greenfingers, which provides gardening therapy for adults with mental health problems. Katie Rushworth, who runs her own garden design company and is passionate about local food and growing initiatives, says: “Community growing groups make neighbourhoods better, healthier and friendlier places but, with less funding around, many of them struggle. That’s why finding ‘Business Heroes’ to support them is so vital. “Take my home village in Yorkshire for example. Our local community garden is a place for local residents to get together to transform flowerbeds, containers and baskets but this only happens because of local business sponsorship and volunteers
FENCING
who want to give something back to the place they live and work in.” Regardless of their size, all businesses have something to offer. Some prefer to sponsor a project or offer funding over a longer period whilst others get employees involved in fundraising activities or volunteering. Offering discounts on products or free use of equipment is another way of helping, as well as donating skills and training - anything from website design to book keeping. There is plenty of evidence to show businesses themselves gain tangible benefits from offering support. It’s good for employee health and wellbeing, a practical way of supporting local communities, can improve the local economy and also boosts a company’s local reputation. To find out more about how to become a Business Hero, visit www. growingtogether.community/businessheroes where businesses can download the toolkit, watch the video, find details on how to get involved and where their local groups are.

ANGLER’S CORNER
with Clint Walker
This week started off extremely well, with a huge haul of double figure carp, then lapsed into a battle of wills, which I lost badly.
I returned to a Staffordshire stillwater, determined to get some fish under my belt after a short break in Poland, but was a little underwhelmed by reports which informed me that the fishing hadn’t been going as well as expected with an upturn in the weather, and I was on my guard for spawning fish, as I have no wish to fish for them. I arrived nice and early, at the same time as my chum Roger, and we set up in adjacent pegs. Roger is a talented match angler, and set out to practice his techniques for a forthcoming match; I’m a pleasure angler, and set up to read my book, whilst hoping to catch a few nice carp in the sunshine… A single Sonik S3 rod was perched upon the alarm, and a small method feeder deposited in the margins; over the top, a scoop of corn, and it was left to be found by passing fish. Within five minutes, I banked my first chunky double figure common, within twenty minutes, I’d had three! In the next peg, Roger persevered with a pellet waggler until the wind became too much, before he changed to a bomb, but he was keeping pace as we both reached double figures after a couple of hours. As usual, the venue ‘went quiet’ in the middle part of the day, until the fish came back within range, and we started to get bites again. I stuck with the close range feeder all day, Roger alternated between tactics, picking off fish at regular intervals. By the time I’d packed up, and left my kit to dry in the sun for an hour whilst I continued my reading, both Roger and I had accounted for 21 carp each, almost all in double figures, I’d added a couple of quality bream, and we’d both lost fish; if that doesn’t count as a good day, fine fishing with friends, then I don’t know what does… I do know what counts as a difficult day though, because that is what transpired later in the week. Having caught plenty enough to supply the required fishy pictures for the week, I opted to try a venue on which I’ve done nothing but struggle in the few times I’ve been. In fact, I’ve had so little success there, that I often go elsewhere! The thing is, it’s obviously not that difficult, because others are catching there, but I just haven’t cracked it yet. I waited for a fly fisherman to finish his session before I broke the waters with a line, and as I watched, he told me that this was the first session where he had caught nothing, but that on other visits, he had caught a couple of decent carp each time. Having said that, I was aware of an angler retiring after a four day session with a solitary tench to his name, and others still on the bank who had caught nought in over

twenty four hours, so perhaps I’m in good company. I have had one fish so far, a beautiful dark common of mid-double figures, but as it was a ‘trailer’, and it was that line I’d picked up, I can’t count it, and my previous visits had all been fruitless; surely it had to change? The venue is weedy, with silkweed on the bottom, ‘cabbages’ to mid-water, and an abundant number of lilies covering the surface, all interlocked together to create a tricky scenario, where clear spots are a premium, and it does make you think before wetting a line. I chose to fish a hefty method feeder on one rod, packed with very sticky groundbait in an attempt to smash a path to the lake bed before it broke down, on the second, I opted for a zig rig, a rig in which I have absolutely no confidence, but one I was prepared to try again, and on the final rod, a floater set up, hoping to pick off a fish if I could get them feeding on top. I baited a corner swim heavily with corn, hemp and boilies, left it to rest for an hour, then lowered the feeder on top. It was close in, so a semi-slack line was left to settle. The zig rig followed to the edge of the mass of lilies, with a bowstring tight line to register any interest, and the third rod was just left to one side as I catapulted out some mixers to try and locate a fish. I’m reasonably patient, so don’t mind trying to find fish first, as I’d rather have an hour on fish, than several when I’m not! The fly angler had had fish in front of him, missing a couple of rises, but as the temperature climbed into what became the hottest day of the year, I suspected that the carp weren’t intent on feeding too hard... As a result, any surface action was limited to a few backs breaking the surface, an odd mixer surreptitiously slurped from the side of a lily, but nothing positive. I had a bleep on the feeder. I watched the line which pulled up an inch, then dropped back, but it didn’t develop, so I resumed my watching brief. Eventually, I glimpsed two carp in the water in front of another peg, so moved all my kit around to that spot, and attempted to encourage the carp to feed by flicking out a few biscuits. An hour later, I was still trying to spot fish, eyes screwed up behind polarisers, as the temperatures continued to rise, before finally spotting a dark tail not three feet away! The carp (for that it was) lay almost under my feet, wearing a large lily as a sunhat. I could see only the caudal fin, so lowered a pop up into the space where I estimated its nose to be, and hunkered down behind the reeds, only the tip of my rod giving any indication to my presence. I love this type of ‘up close and personal’ fishing, where you can feel your own pulse in your ears as each breath is carefully measured so not to betray you; it’s brilliant! Almost imperceptibly, the fish drifted forward and came into view. I’d estimate it at around 25lb, an almost jet black common, which slowly wafted its pectorals to keep trim in the clear water. It was less than an inch from my bait, and time seemed to slow as it always does when battle with a decent fish is imminent…It lay beneath the bait for almost a minute, carefully inspecting it, before it sank down in the water and slowly circled again. Three times, the fish stopped, then moved away, before returning to sit below and check it out, but it would not take it… eventually, it sank from sight; no bite! As each cloud slipped away from the sun, revealing rays shone down into the water,

and my eyes became accustomed to the colours beneath, the slight shift of a lily, a smidgen of silt hanging in the gloom beneath the vegetation, or a gentle swirl, gave away several more fish, all within range of my delicate approach which was more stealthy than Stealthy McStealthface wearing a cloak of stealth, (in fact, I lost count of the number of goose droppings through which I crawled) and I dropped a bait in the vicinity of around eight different fish, all without success. The other two rods lay on the pod, unused as I continued crawling across the bank, choosing to concentrate on a single rod, hoping to entice a take on my pop up. As the afternoon progressed, my attention span faltered a little, and as I watched the dark flank of a mirror emerge from between the lilies, heading towards my bait, I missed the big common, coming from the other side, which swam straight up to the bait, sucked it in…and spat it out, all before I had time to react! The resulting splash and disturbance as it registered the hook spooked the other fish in the swim, and once more, I’d had enough, and had to admit defeat, so packed up and returned to the van. Did I learn anything? I still can’t get on with zigs, that much I do

know, and I’ve also realised that a roving, one rod approach when it’s warm, is more likely to allow me to sneak up on the carp which use the lilies as cover. I may even attempt a bit of ‘fluff chucking’ (there are few trees within a hundred yards, so I might hit the water!) to try and sneak a fish. The one thing I do know for certain, is that when I do get a fish from here, I will have worked bloody hard to get it, so big or small, I’ll be grateful; the quest continues, and I will have to go back…

CARLOS EXTENDS S6 STAY LANE’S BIG NIGHT OF BOXING Carlos Carvalhal has extended his stay as head coach at Hillsborough. The former Sporting Lisbon and Besiktas coach joined Wednesday in the summer of 2015 and oversaw a superb maiden campaign with Wednesday, which culminated in a place in the Championship play-off final at Wembley. The Owls were the surprise package of the 2015/16 season, rising from mid-table in the previous term, to strong promotion contenders. Wednesday secured sixth spot ahead of the final game of the season away at Wolves, before defeating Brighton over two legs in the semi finals – which brought about scenes that will never be forgotten at Hillsborough. Although the club fell at the final hurdle in the Wembley showpiece final, under Carvalhal Wednesday went again in what was without doubt a much tougher 2016/17 challenge. With expectations high and the competition even
stronger, the Owls more than stabilised their position as one of the strongest sides at the Championship table, amassing more points and finishing two places higher in the division. In a remarkable finish to the season, with teams battling for a top six spot, Wednesday produced their hottest winning streak in over 24 years by posting six consecutive wins in April. The Owls rose to fourth in the division and Carlos was named as the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month. There was nothing to separate the Owls and Huddersfield in the play-off semi finals as Wednesday were agonisingly defeated on penalties to deny them a second successive attempt at promotion via the Wembley play-off final. Carlos and his backroom staff – who have also extended their S6 contracts - will regroup for the 2017/18 campaign which begins with pre-season in July.
PROMOTION SHIRTS BLADES HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR AVAILABLE WEEKLY BLADES COLUMN BY ANDREW SMITH This is the worst time to be a football fan. The domestic season has come to a close and a long summer awaits before the return of league fixtures. I suspect the wait will be worse for Blades fans, especially as Chris Wilder continues to add new faces at a rapid rate. Enda Stevens being the latest to join the club after agreeing a three-year deal. He joins Nathan Thomas and Ched Evans, and unsurprisingly, all three are relatively new to the Championship. A year ago, when Jake Wright, Simon Moore and John Fleck arrived at Bramall Lane, a similar fear of the unknown surrounded the club. We all know how the season panned out, Wilder has bought himself the freedom to make ambitious signings this summer. The trend of signing this brand of player shows no sign of ending either. Southend’s Ryan Leonard has been linked with the club in recent weeks. Our city neighbours have proved that building a side full of big names will not necessarily lead to success. Aston Villa spent £70m in order to secure an immediate return to the Premier League, they finished 13th. Ask a casual fan to name Huddersfield Town’s starting XI and many would struggle. Yet they will be enjoying the luxury of top-flight football next year. I’m not trying to suggest that Sheffield United will challenge at the top end of the second tier next season, but the style of recruitment would be different if Wilder intended to stay up on goal difference. The boss said last week he doesn’t understand the word ‘consolidate’, in case you were in any doubt about his ambitions for next season.

A spectacular night of world championship boxing at Bramall Lane ultimately ended in disappointment for the hometown hero. In front of a crowd of around 27,000 inside United’s home, Kell Brook lost his IBF world crown in a tremendously entertaining bout with unbeaten American Errol Spence Jr. It was the headline event on an impressive Matchroom Boxing show, which was shown live on Sky Sports Box Office and after a brave display, Brook’s night was ended in the 11th round with an eye problem. Kell said afterwards: “It was a very tough fight. Spence is one of the best kids I’ve been in with. It was a very competitive fight. “I got caught in the eye, I couldn’t see. I had to stop. I live to fight another day but I’m gutted I’ve lost my
WARNE CONFIDENT IN IHIEKWE ABILITY Boss Paul Warne believes that new signing Michael Ihiekwe’s experiences in the National League will provide the perfect grounding for the next stage of his career. Warne made the former Wolverhampton Wanderers defender his first signing of the close season, after watching him closely over the past few months, culminating in Tranmere’s recent Play-off final appearance at Wembley. The 24-year-old has been a mainstay of the Tranmere back-line over the last three seasons, and after appearing over 40 times in all competitions last season, Warne now believes the time is right for the former Cheltenham Town loanee to make the step-up to League One. “Obviously his season ended without promotion, but he collected 95 points with Tranmere in the Conference and everyone knows that's a physical, man's league and he played a massive part in their success,” Warne said of his latest recruit. “It's a great opportunity for him stepping up two leagues, but I definitely think he's got the

belt in front of my fans in Sheffield. I’m devastated.” New champion Spence Jr added: “I’d like to thank the fans for coming out. Kell Brook is a strong, fast fighter and he congratulated me after the fight. There is a respect between us. The atmosphere was awesome, the fans came to support their guy and I attempted to use that as a positive.” George Groves won the WBA world super middleweight title and a number of former Olympians starred on the bill, which was watched by Blades boss Chris Wilder. Promoter Eddie Hearn, who worked closely with United to put on the show, added: “Kell was taken to hospital after the fight but no excuses, he was beaten by the better man.”
potential to play in this league and possibly the league above.” The hyper-competitive National League has proved to be the graveyard of some well-established EFL Clubs in recent years. Those not prepared for the muck and bullets of English Football’s fifth tier have found themselves wanting, but Ihiekwe’s consistent performances over the past two years have shown he has the appetite for a battle. Warne confessed earlier that it was Ihiekwe’s mental approach that enticed him as much as his ability on the field, with the Millers boss admitting that he wasn’t the only EFL manager who coveted the Liverpool-born ace. “He had a few options but he was keen to buy into what we said to him and I'm glad to have him on board,” Warne continued. “Obviously we're trying to get more and more in and I want some attackers through the door but it's a continuous thing. The game changes a little bit every day but we're doing everything we possibly can."
