The judges also praised Sheffield’s “quirky cafes bursting with charm, independent shops housed in former steel factories, priceless collections in worldclass museums and acres of rolling countryside” as contributing and declared that “Sheffield delights and surprises in equal measure”.

Likewise Tamper scored a spot in the Guardian’s 50 Best Breakfasts in the UK, while The Sheffield Tap was listed at number one in The Mirror’s Top 10 Railway Station Bars. Wendy Ulyett, marketing manager at Marketing Sheffield, said: “We are extremely pleased that Sheffield was nominated and has gone on to be awarded Emerging City Destination Of The Year, recognising the increased appeal of the city.” All the winners take a place in LTG’S European Awards guide, which is distributed to over 500,000 people around the world. Sheffield Makes Music this weekend After the success of last year’s inaugural event, Sheffield Makes Music returns on the weekend of 9 - 11 June to celebrate local emerging and established talent. This year, Sheffield Makes Music aims to have 1000 musicians performing over 24 hours at various locations around the city, from as early as 8am. Some performances will be in established music venues and performance spaces, while others will form magical moments of amazing sounds in unexpected places. There’ll be everything from Opera to Omnichord solos, Hip Hop to Harmonicas, Folk to Fanfares, Brass to Beethoven. There’ll be music on trams, on trains, in shops, bars and coffee shops, indoors

and outdoors, soloists, choirs, bands - electronic, unplugged, quiet, loud - music to sit still to and music to dance to. Delivered by the University of Sheffield and supported by Sheffield BID, Sheffield Makes Music Day has become a significant part of Sheffield’s cultural calendar, continuing the city’s rich musical tradition. Professor Vanessa Toulmin, Director of City and Cultural Engagement at The University of Sheffield, said: “Sheffield is a great music city, from the musicians to the bookers and promoters to the audiences. This weekend showcases our musical talent, our wonderful city, our international venues celebrating the city and music together.” Highlights already scheduled

The always-wonderful Concord Allstars who will be taking over the Moor for a march

for Friday 9 June include Sheffield University’s Indian Music Ensemble performing Raga at 8am at Sheffield Train Station - what a welcome to your day! Sheffield Youth Orchestra, Music Hub’s Senior Orchestra and Brass Band England are collaborating on a showstopper performance in the city centre, and Opera On Location will once again bring a few minutes of serenity with a lunchtime Aria on the Town Hall steps. There’s a Tea Time parade by the always-wonderful Concord Allstars who will be taking over the Moor for a march. Also on the Moor, you can once again Bop While You Shop at the Moor Markets' Silent Disco. Barkers Pool once again plays host to the Yellow Bus stage with a variety of the city’s best talent on show, and the homegrown favourites don’t stop there... Reverend & The Makers’ Jon McClure and Milburn’s Joe Carnell will both be in town and insisting you share the joy of performance with them, and there may even be a couple of musical surprises up their sleeves. The Leadmill will curate the Acoustic Trail, winding its way all day around the city’s favourite

shops, coffee bars and cafes. Some of Sheffield’s brightest talents will be playing in intimate surroundings and rearranging their familiar favourites accordingly to surprise, delight and enchant audiences. Music in the city will pause at 1pm when Sheffield Music Hub surely break some kind of record with a 300+ ensemble of school children performing as the world’s biggest (unofficially) Samba Band! Soundpost.org are in on the fun with their folk ensembles - we can’t tell you where because they’ll be popping up all over! – as will some of the cities great choral groups, barbershop choirs and many amateur choirs. If all this wasn't enough, Hope Works are set to host a launch party for their No Bounds Festival on 9 June. The 18 hour music, art and technology event features workshops and Q&A opportunities with many

people at the forefront of Electronic Music, Techno and Live Coding, culminating in an early morning Algorave featuring an exceptional line-up headlined by DJ Nina Kraviz. The events will take place across Sheffield Trafalgar Warehouse & Hope Works 1pm-7am, visit noboundsfestival.co.uk/ for tickets to this event. Local band Cuckoo Clocks are having a multimedia feast for the senses to launch their new album at Abbeydale Picture House (visit thecuckooclocks. co.uk for tickets to this event), while Yellow Arch Studios will play host to Kog and the Zongo Brigade and Addictive TV’s project Orchestra Of Samples, an explosion of global sounds collected and curated on the travels of the musicians and sampled in to a live audio-visual delight ( visit http://www.yellowarch.com/ events for tickets). Sheffield Makes Music then continues into the weekend

with a very special event on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 June, as Mark Fell curates Lush Spectra at Sheffield’s newly refurbished NonConformist Chapel, General Cemetery. This exclusive event will use experimental music, deeper listening and nonlinear time-consciousness, to create a unique and mesmerising experiential journey into the night, with live performances from some of the world’s most renowned performers and composers. Beard of the Year contest to help Sheffield charity gets celebrity Blessed!

Meadowhall is brushing up its fund-raising skills to celebrate Father’s Day this year with its first ever “Beard of the Year” competition. And to make sure judging is of the highest, hairiest standard, the Centre has enlisted the help of Britain’s much-loved and arguably most famous beard in the land – actor and director Brian Blessed! The Yorkshire-born star of screen and stage agreed to take time out from his busy directing duties this summer to judge Meadowhall’s Beard of the Year where big and bushy is definitely beautiful. And the Centre hopes he will have a real chin-tastic challenge on his hands as dads, uncles, grandads and brothers sending in their best beardy shots to win the coveted title of “Beard of the Year”. Prizes for the winner include a personalised signed and framed photograph from the great man himself, along with some great prizes from Meadowhall’s Barber Barber. For every entry received

Meadowhall will donate £1 to Sheffield’s Weston Park Hospital Charity* to go towards its fundraising that includes support for prostate cancer sufferers. This was personally chosen by Brian who was keen to support a local charity. He said: “I always knew I was ahead in the fashion stakes all these years with my own fabulous facial hair, I’m just surprised it took so long for everyone to catch on. I’m now looking forward to seeing some quality entries to judge if anyone can truly challenge me for the title of Beard of the Year!” Meadowhall Centre Director, Darren Pearce, agreed: “There was really no other choice as far as we were concerned when it came to judging this Father’s Day inspired competition. Brian has delighted audiences for decades with his acting and comedy skills and we hope his participation will inspire beardies far and wide to join in this celebration of all things bristly!” Men’s grooming has come into its

own in recent years, an industry expected to be worth £1bn annually by 2018, with over half of men in the UK now sporting some kind of facial hair. The hipster look of fully beard coupled with carefully styled or cropped hair also shows no signs of abating. Entering the competition is easy – simply send in a head & shoulders selfie with your name and a contact number that shows off your beard at its best and leave the rest to Brian who will be judging on style, look and sheer bushiness in some cases. Members of the public can also nominate loved ones or friends if they think their beards are up to scratch! You can find out more or send in an entry via direct message to the Meadowhall Facebook/Twitter or Instagram @lovemeadowhall (facebook. com/lovemeadowhall) or to fathersday@meadowhall.co.uk. And don’t worry if you are whisker-free at the moment, there is still time to grow a quick goatee and join in the fun.

PARKWOOD: COUNCIL PLEASED WITH BIDS FOR FORMER SKI VILLAGE SITE The deadline for expressions of interest to develop an Outdoor City themed proposal for Sheffield’s former ski village has passed with a number of “exciting” bids now to be taken to the next stage of the process. Sheffield City Council has received a number of bids for the site after announcing plans to lease the Parkwood site to a developer for potential outdoor recreational and commercial use.

The North’s largest entertainment weekly, telephone our sales team to get your advert on these pages 0114 276 3633 opt.1

After a short extension was announced earlier this month, the Council will now work with the shortlisted investors to develop the plans further, a process expected to take several months. Edward Highfield, director of city growth at Sheffield City Council, said: “There is clearly a lot of enthusiasm for the Parkwood site as part of the city’s wider Outdoor City ambitions. “We received a number of very promising bids and were very pleased with the overall quality of submissions. We will now evaluate the bids carefully to get down to a shortlist and enter detailed commercial negotiations with a small number of bidders that we take through to the next stage. The Council will now carry out more in-depth work with the shortlisted parties, asking that they work with the Friends of Parkwood Springs and other local groups to develop proposals that are of benefit to the surrounding area.

A MOMENTOUS LANDMARK AS UNDER THE STARS CELEBRATE THEIR 10TH BIRTHDAY Under the Stars will be celebrating 10 years of learning disability-friendly night-clubbing at The Leadmill on 22nd June. This event will feature two rooms of music and live performances from musicians who

have learned to play at Under The Stars music workshops. Under the Stars founder, Ruth Parrott, launched the specialist nightclub in 2007 after she became aware of the growing demand for ‘a proper night out’ for people with learning disabilities and their friends. Many people with learning disabilities and/or autism don’t like strobing lights and don’t feel safe going out in town to regular nightclubs. Under the Stars provides a safe and friendly environment where people can relax and party, knowing that they won’t be judged or discriminated against for having a disability. The first party in 2007 was planned as a oneoff but proved so popular that the nightclub became a regular event. Originally based at The Hubs (now Sheffield Hallam University Student’s Union), the nightclub moved to it’s

current home at The Leadmill in 2015. Currently, there are 5 nightclubs a year in Sheffield, which are attended by up to 500 people and over the years, events have also been run in Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley. All of the Under The Stars DJs and some of the volunteers and organisers also have a learning disability and/or autism too. They have been supported to learn DJing skills and to perform live at the nightclubs. Over the years there has been a huge number of success stories. Individuals have overcome huge boundaries to perform in front of a crowd. This development has led to a number of high profile performances including taking part in a multi-crew DJ soundclash in London’s Southbank Centre in 2015 and regular Tramlines Festival performances. “I thought it was a good idea for people with a

learning disability to have somewhere to go to dance to music and make new friends. I really enjoy DJing and being on stage in front of a big crowd. I choose music that makes people want to dance.” – Carl, a founding DJ at the nightclub.

MAJOR STUDY LAUNCHED INTO M1 CONNECTIVITY Professional services and engineering consultancy WSP has been appointed by Sheffield City Council in partnership with Rotherham Borough Council to lead on a study that will define the business case for a Sheffield City Region ‘Innovation Corridor’. The company will assess the options and develop plans to reduce congestion and improve connectivity between Sheffield and Rotherham to maximise the potential for growth of the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District (AMID). The study will seek to reduce pressure on both J33 and J34 of the M1 by exploring options to provide alternatives to the M1 for local traffic, and potentially provide additional routes between Sheffield and Rotherham without the need for drivers to pass through existing motorway junctions. WSP will provide a range of specialist services including transport modelling, environmental impact assessment, flood risk and ecology in conducting a feasibility and economic appraisal to create a viable scheme that can be funded by the Department for Transport (DfT) through its Large Local Major Scheme Fund, as announced in the 2016 Autumn Statement. The study also is supported by local stakeholders, Highways England and the Sheffield City Region LEP. The Innovation Corridor, located between Sheffield and Rotherham and based around Junctions 33 and 34, is home to a number of businesses and University centres. It houses the new factories for McLaren and Boeing, the Advanced Manufacturing Park and Factory 2050. It has the growth potential to play a critical role nationally and internationally as the place for leading manufacturers to come for research, technology transfer, and production, networking and

industrial collaboration. In November last year, Sheffield City Council announced a £1.4million programme to improve capacity around the two junctions of the M1. Tom Finnegan-Smith, Head of Highways and Transport at Sheffield City Council said: “We are pleased to announce this major new review of capacity issues around AMID which will provide an opportunity to deliver transformational infrastructure that will ultimately improve accessibility in and around the area for the benefit of the whole City Region. “Tackling capacity prob-

lems in the area will enable the economy to achieve its full potential around the Innovation Corridor and throughout the Lower Don Valley between Sheffield and Rotherham.” Poor connectivity into and around the AMID has been identified by the Council as a key priority in its aim to attract more companies to move there, enabling people and businesses across the Sheffield City Region to access new opportunities in growing markets and to realise benefits from innovation, research and technology. Improved transport links

will also help facilitate improved access between rapidly emerging economic growth sites in the area which include almost 4,000 new homes at Waverley and further commercial developments at the Sheffield Airport Business Park. Mike Holmes, technical director at WSP in Leeds, said: “We need to facilitate the strategic infrastructure required to support the City Region’s aspirations to create the UK’s largest research-led Advanced Manufacturing cluster which has the potential to be its primary economic driver and a ma-

growth of the site.” tOver the next 18 months WSP will carry out a series of studies incorporating regular stakeholder engagement. The final report will be presented to the Sheffield City Region who will submit the outline business case to the DfT next year. A detailed design and formal planning process will follow.

The countdown is on to find South Yorkshires top music talent With only two weeks left to register for The Big Audition, the countdown is on. The Big Audition, sponsored by Diamond Live Lounge Doncaster, is a talent competition being held by Hallam FM’s Cash for Kids giving a band or solo artist the opportunity to win a money can’t buy prize. The prize package itself is worth over £5,000 and includes studio time; the chance to film a music video, a website and the winner will also be able

to release their own single across digital platforms, which include iTunes and Spotify, plus much more! Once registration closes, the judging panel will shortlist the bands and solo artists, choosing which twenty bands or solo artists will make it to the semifinal at Diamond Live Lounge in Doncaster where ten acts will be chosen to go onto The Big Audition Final at the O2 Academy in Sheffield on Friday 29th September. In order to get to the final each act will be required to fundraise for Cash for Kids, as the amount raised will be considered as part of their final score alongside the mark for their musical abilities on the night of the final. Every penny raised from their fundraising as well as ticket revenue will stay right here in South Yorkshire helping sick and disadvantaged children. Dominic Gibbs, owner of Diamond Live Lounge in Doncaster said, “I’m very excited to be part of such an exciting competition searching for South Yorkshire’s potential chart toppers. The Diamond Live Lounge has hosted many big names and I’m looking forward to adding The Big Audition winner to that list.” “Cash for Kids is a charity that is close to my heart with it supporting children in South Yorkshire living with disabilities, cancer and facing poverty. I am honoured to be part of something that can change so many lives.” Details of the winning package and the form to enter the competition can be found by visiting www. hallamfm.co.uk/audition

ANGLER’S CORNER

with Clint Walker

I’ve spent a couple of sessions trying to get to grips with an interesting new product which I spotted on social media. After an enquiry, I made contact with Paul Jessop, director of www.peejaytackle.co.uk who make and distribute the SODAFloat, and a couple of days later, half a dozen arrived for me to have a look at. Why SODAFloat? The Self-Opening Displacement Action Float, is the innovative brainchild of Paul, a Hull based entrepreneur, and is already selling well across a number of UK based stockists, and I was keen to find out more. On my desk, six of them sat waiting for me to do something with them, so I took a couple to a local day ticket fishery, Gawsworth Fisheries in Cheshire, to use them for the first time. I’m not a big fan of splasher or pellet wagglers, being too lazy to really commit a full day of pleasure fishing to constantly changing floats, pinging pellet, or catapulting maggots, but these floats are ideally suited to summer fishing up in the water, and the beauty of the design means that you don’t have to swap floats if you want to use pellets, or corn, or maggots, or pellets, or even meat; the SODAFloat will do it all! It works on a fairly simple principle. The body of the float is filled with the required free offerings, and the sliding ball, when the float is upside down, sits snugly on top of the feed to keep it in place. Centrifugal action also keeps it closed during the cast, but when the loaded float hits the water, and settles into an upright position, the air in the ball is displaced by water, it sinks to the base of the short central shaft, and the bait is released directly over your hookbait… very clever! Because the air the ball is displaced by water, it counteracts the release of the bait, meaning that the float does not rise up in the water, and retains its sensitivity. The main body of the SODAFloat has drain holes to allow the release of water on the retrieve, so it’s quick and easy to refill, it’s constructed throughout of clear polypropylene, resulting in a strong, hardwearing product, and the base is preloaded, meaning that a couple of float stops or small shot are sufficient to lock it in place without having to dot it down. I intended to use it initially with maggots, a couple of gentiles suspended below on a short hook link, so

I filled it up, and swung it out underarm style about a rod length out where I could see it deposit the bait. My intended targets were silverfish, so I hoped that the bulbous float would be sensitive enough to register some extremely fast bites! The shape of the SODAFloat also means that it doesn’t ‘dive’ too far, and if you feather the line during the cast, it is easy to move the float in the first few seconds before the air is displaced, which means it can be cast beyond the feeding fish, and towed back into place; ideal for wary fish. Once in the water, the float settled quickly, and within 3 seconds, had opened up enough for the maggots to come tumbling out, surrounding my hook bait, and encouraging hordes of swirls and boils as fish charged in to snatch the grubs. The float lurched swiftly to one side, so I struck, and was rewarded with a small skimmer of around five ounces; it worked, and I hadn’t thrown any other bait in. I filled it again, and the same thing happened, this time a roach snared upon the hook, and the third cast saw another bream, slightly bigger, come to the net; this was easy! I filled it with tiny cubes of meat, hoping for a chub, or an ide, and passed the hook into a similar piece, before swinging it back out… I missed the next bite, but another attempt saw another bream hooked, then another, then a chub of around two pounds. I’d been fishing for only a few minutes, and was catching steadily! Switching between maggots and meat, I landed perhaps twenty pristine chub, a few ide, dozens of roach, even more bream, even crucian carp tripped up over the tactics, and we all know how wary they can be! Throughout the day, I amassed a net of around 110lb of fish, a good result, but I had gone through almost three pints of maggots, and a couple of tins of meat; get the fish feeding, and you need a lot of bait to keep up! The following day saw me try it on a much bigger venue, where copious amounts of pellets must be fired out to encourage carp to come up in the water, and I started to flick out half a dozen pellets every fifteen seconds or so until I started to see carp disturb the water as they hoovered up the pellets. I filled the SODAFloat, banded a pellet on the hook, and cast it out beyond the feeding fish, before drawing it back into the target area. It cocked, dropping the pellets amongst the carp, and I saw a couple of fish turn back to the float and charge beneath to pick off the baits. I was worried that the size of the float may upset the fish, but it didn’t appear to bother them unduly as several barged it out of the way to hit the freebies! Noise is everything when fishing up in the water with pellets, the aim being to replicate Pavlov’s experiment with his dogs, and attune the carp to the sound of bait hitting the water. The SODAFloat adds to the din, hitting the water with a splash, and drawing attention to the bait within…and then the hook bait. After ten

minutes, I got my first positive bite, the SODAFloat lurching beneath the water, and I lifted into a nice double figure common which battled gamely to the net. The next thirty minutes saw me miss a couple more, but in truth, so soon after spawning, they didn’t really seem to be ‘on it’, so I put the SODAFloat away. Having said that, it worked, and worked well. The lack of feeding actively was purely down to recovering fish, not the product, and on two consecutive days, I’d caught fish with relative ease. On a different day, I reckon that the tally of carp would have been greater, but as other anglers around me struggled to catch on a conventional pellet waggler, I wasn’t too bothered, and I’d certainly proved that it worked… So, what are the advantages? I didn’t have to break my tackle down to swap from pellet to maggot to meat, and as long as the bait, wet or dry, fits within, it can be used with SODAFloat, saving time whilst fishing, and giving a good range of options. It can also be used when fishing on the bottom, the bait dropped in a tight

OWLS ANNOUNCE BULLEN PRAISES YOUNG BLADE OWLS YOUNG STAR BROOKS CONTINUES PRE-SEASON Lee Bullen has piled the praise on George Hirst and the Owls academy following the young striker’s hat-trick for the England Under-20s on last week. The Three Lions thrashed Cuba 7-1 in the Toulon tournament at the Stade D’Honneur Marcel Roustan Salon De Provence in France. The treble took Hirst’s tally to 39 in all competitions for the season and Bullen said: “It doesn’t matter what opposition you are up against at international level, you’re playing against top quality players so it is fantastic for George to get a hat-trick. “George is doing great and is a fantastic asset for the football club. “He loves his football and I think the reason he is scoring so many goals is because of the education he’s had at the football club. “All the academy coaches and first team staff believe in the kid. “I don’t think he can be at any better place than Sheffield Wednesday right now.”.

David Brooks marked his full international debut with a goal and three assists as England U20s secured a semi-final berth in the Toulon Tournament following a dominant display against Cuba. Having impressed as a substitute against Angola in the opening fixture, Brooks started Thursday’s clash and produced an eye-catching display as he completed 90 minutes with England winning 7-1. The victory makes it two wins from two and keeps the Young Lions on course to retain the trophy for a third year in succession. Meanwhile, second-year scholar David Parkhouse has earnt further international honours following confirmation that he has been called up for Northern Ireland U21s. Parkhouse will spend some time with his team-mates over the weekend prior to the game against Estonia at the Kadrioru Stadium on Thursday 8th June.

ANDREW INCREASES FLEXIBILITY WILDER: ‘WE’LL DREAM SCENE: BE AMBITIOUS’ ROLAND IN THE RANKS WEEKLY BLADES COLUMN BY ANDREW SMITH

In just over a month, Chris Wilder will return to the place where his journey as Blades manager began. United will face Stockbridge Park Steels in their first pre-season game looking to continue the momentum that propelled them to the League One title. By the time the fixture begins on July 8th, the squad could have been replenished with further additions. However, Wilder is struggling in his pursuit of Southend midfielder Ryan Leonard. It is reported that three separate bids have been rejected, with the Southend chairmen Ron Martin insisting the player is ‘not for sale.’ Ryan Bennett, another target for the Blades, has opted to join Wolves, believing that the club has a better chance of achieving Premier League football. Despite these disappointments, the Blades boss has indicated that he does not lack backing from the clubs owners. He told the club website: “We will be competitive and we will be ambitious. I don’t want to have someone on a lot more than anyone else, but at the same time the players understand the bar rises and although we know players will cost more we will remain sensible.” Wilder’s transfer kitty could receive a significant boost if Kyle Walker moves from Tottenham Hotspur this summer. The club inserted a sell on clause when he and Kyle Naughton moved to Spurs in 2009. It is rumoured that the Blades would be owed 10% of the fee paid to the North London side. Manchester City look primed to break the bank in order to strengthen at full-back, which could give Wilder the edge in subsequent negotiations for incoming players.

The Owls are pleased to announce that the first player who will feature in the ‘Sheffield Wednesday Dream Scene’ is Roland Nilsson. The iconic Swedish international achieved cult hero status with the club and is often revered as the Owls’ greatest ever foreign export. After arriving from IFK Gothenburg in 1989 the classy right back was an instrumental part of the Wednesday side that won promotion from Division Two in 1990/91. In the same campaign Nilsson helped the Owls to the League Cup, famously marking Manchester United’s Lee Sharpe out of the final as Wednesday came out 1-0 winners at Wembley. An ever-popular figure, Nilsson’s affinity with Wednesday is on-going and he recently emailed the club in the build-up to the Owls’ play-off campaign last month to give his best wishes. Overall he played 186 games for the Owls during a five-year spell, scoring three goals, and will now be deservedly immortalised in Jamie Cooper’s dressing room mural. Visit swfc.co.uk next Monday when we will announce the next player in the ‘Sheffield Wednesday Dream Scene.’

Doncaster Rovers manager Darren Ferguson says new signing Danny Andrew will give him more flexibility this season. Andrew will work with Ferguson for a second time, having spent three years with him at Peterborough United. “I am really pleased to get him over the line, he is our second signing of the summer and he gives us the flexibility that we were missing last season,” said the Rovers boss. “He is left-footed and can play left back, left wing back and left centre half as a three where he played for Fleetwood, him and Enda Stevens were the best left backs in the league last season. “We did not have enough balance in that position, we were playing with a right-footed left back throughout the majority of last season, Tommy Rowe was also filling in, now Tommy can play more centrally.” Andrew played 50 games for Grimsby in all competitions last season, which included two league games against Rovers. “When we played Grimsby he was the one that was the real threat and he is a danger at set pieces, which is important, and his left foot was pivotal for us signing him,” added Ferguson. “He’s moved on since the last time I managed him, played well in League One at Fleetwood Town - a couple of injuries knocked him back, but he’s recovered from that really well.”

PRE-SEASON TO BE TOUGH BUT ENJOYABLE - RICHARD WOOD It isn’t every professional footballer’s highlight, but Rotherham United defender Richard Wood insists he is already looking forward to what is expected to be a tough pre-season. Boss Paul Warne, the Millers former fitness coach, has spoken at length about his desire to provide a robust pre-season camp with the Millers set for a week in Austria in the middle of July. Whilst all pre-season camps are tough, there has been a real emphasis by Warne on early starts, hill runs and late finishes, but Wood has welcomed the prospect of a no holds barred camp as he prepares for the squad return at the end of this month. “I’m looking forward to it,” Wood admitted to www. themillers.co.uk “The manager has explained his plans for pre-season and it’s going to be tough, but it’ll be enjoyable and it looks like we’ll be a really fit team, which is what you need in League One. “We need to be fit, aggressive and play at a high tempo, which I think suits Rotherham’s style, how we are and what Warney wants to do.” Wood put pen-to-paper on a new one-year deal with the Millers last month, and joins Joe Mattock and Jonson Clarke-Harris in agreeing fresh terms at the AESSEAL New York Stadium. The former Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry defender is already planning for next season by making sure he comes back to Roundwood this month in good shape, as he aims to play as many games as possible in what looks set to be a competitive area of Warne’s side. “We’ve got off-season programmes to be doing, so when we go back in pre-season we’ll have a good base of fitness and be raring to go. “It is a one year deal I’ve signed so I want to make sure I play as much as possible and help the team this year. The aim is to hopefully get promoted and if we can do that, then there will be a good chance I’ll be signing another new deal at the end of it.”
