FANTASTIC DAY OUT PLANNED FOR GREAT GET TOGETHER ROTHERHAM Rotherham will join 110,000+ other events on Saturday for the Great Get Together in honour of Jo Cox. Hundreds of people from across Rotherham will be coming together this Saturday, 17 June, at the Clifton Park bandstand, joined by local musicians, artists, a carnival parade and much, much more - one of more than 110,000 Great Get Together events taking place in honour of

murdered MP Jo Cox and celebrating all that is best about Britain this weekend. “This will be a wonderful opportunity to bring our communities together in the wake of two divisive elections within the space of a year,” said Nick Stevens, community organiser for HOPE not hate, the national antiracism campaign which is putting on the event. “It’s our chance to demonstrate a

positive and united Britain.” There will be appearances from local artists such as: The Storm Trees, Rotherham Red Choir, local drumming group Rotherham African Drummers, an energetic performance from Young Minds Together, and more! Young people’s activities will be hosted by the wonderful Vicky Hilton, who will be running a mini-

carnival parade. There will also be workshops and carnival costume walkabouts, games for children and adults, a live ‘HOPE’ graffiti mural constructed throughout the day by local artist Philip Padfield, and food supplied courtesy of Doncaster Real Junk Food Project. Arts & crafts and henna painting will be run by the folks at Love Is Louder, in addition to many other activities. The

fantastic folks over at Moose Lorals will be documenting the whole event, so make sure you dress up, come down and have a load of fun! At 1pm there will be a minute’s silence in memory of Jo Cox, who was murdered by a far-right extremist last year. The commemoration will be led by the newly-elected Mayor, Eve Rose.
