As part of the plans, the renovated Wool Market will become an attractive and welcoming destination providing a new and enhanced offer to retail traders and customers. The makeover will also

enable the market to host more events, encouraging more people into the area. Discussions have been held with the current market traders to share the new designs and provide them with information about the progress of the market development. The final stall configuration is still to be determined, however over the past few months the plans have been further developed and enhanced to ensure the market is modernised

and fit for the 21st century through this redevelopment. Cllr Bill Mordue, Cabinet Member for Business, Skills and Economic Development, said: “It is great to see the progress being made to transform the market place. WATCH IT CHANGE – NEW LOOK DONCASTER MARKET UNVEILED The new design for the famous and historic Wool Market has been unveiled as plans to transform Doncaster Market continue at pace. More than £3 million of Sheffield City Region SCRIF funding has been secured by Doncaster Council to revamp the jewel in the crown of the town centre, the award winning market place. The aim is to transform the market area into a vibrant and bustling location all

the traders to diversify their product ranges as well as giving them the flexibility to open longer and into the evening. This will create an attractive proposition for customers helping draw more people back into Doncaster Market. We are working closely with the traders throughout this process and supporting them with

this transition. “When we launched our urban centre masterplan in November 2016 we said that there were a number of key projects we needed to deliver. The market place is one of those projects. We are making very good progress and work on the ground is anticipated to start in early 2018. “As well as transforming the market place we are also working hard, with our partners, to transform the whole town centre. We have been delivering a number of key events that bring people

into the town centre, supporting new businesses to set up and increasing the town centre cleaning regime. We are also working closely with South Yorkshire Police to tackle anti-social behaviour ensuring there is more enforcement and a visible police presence. This is ongoing and we hope all residents and businesses will support us in this work to make Doncaster town centre a great place to visit, shop and explore.” Sir Nigel Knowles, Chair of the Sheffield City Region Local

Enterprise Partnership, said: “This is an excellent scheme which will bring widespread benefits, among them many jobs. At Sheffield City Region, we get things done in an honest, no-nonsense way. This is helping us to build a truly competitive centre of business excellence.” For further information about the market development and to see the latest artist impressions please visit www.doncaster. gov.uk/marketstranformation

THE KING OF POP’S LEGEND CONTINUES AT THE CITY HALL Led by the world’s number one Michael Jackson tribute artist Navi, which alone sets this show above the rest. Navi is the only MJ tribute ever invited to perform for Michael himself and he returns to Sheffield City Hall on Saturday 24th June, Michael actually stood up and gave Navi a standing ovation after he performed at one of his birthday parties in LA. The two remained friends and Navi was also regularly hired as a body double and decoy to distract fans and press when Michael visited the UK. Along with his incredible live band and dancers, Navi is currently taking theatres and arenas across the globe by storm with his

thrilling new show that will take you closer than you ever imagined to an original Jackson concert. Featuring hits such as ‘Smooth Criminal’, ‘Beat It’, ‘Billie Jean’, ‘Black or White’, ‘Man In The Mirror’ and the ‘Jackson Five’ classics in a show suitable for the whole family.

Tickets for King of Pop: The Legend Continues... Starring Navi (subject to booking fees) at Sheffield City Hall are available online at www.sheffieldcityhall.co.uk in person at the City Hall Box Office or by calling 0114 2 789 789.

Your ruler Venus’s link with Pluto at the start of this week could have implications for a property matter or a very profound relationship. This is going to be a time when you can find yourself much more strident about what’s important to you, and being more single-minded about it. Call for more...

You may be feeling the magic around one connection you’re enjoying. Now, if I could be to the point, some people say you can be a little blunt. You may feel this is unfair, but this is a week when if you are more direct, it could cause some tensions. Look to be flexible Taurus. Call for more...

A conversation you had last week could still be zinging on your senses and you can ponder if someone is the real deal. Your desire to travel or to break out of the straitjacket of everyday routines can also be extraordinarily high. Also, accept that others can feel as passionate as you. Call for more...

Someone rather provocative may continue to play on your mind as the week unfolds. And in general this can be a time when your passions continue to run high. If this chimes with you, the chances are you’re going to want to get up close and personal Gemini. Call for more news and astral advice...

Your business and entrepreneurial skills can be quite awesome this week, and this could see you doing something inspired when it comes to a property matter, too. Mind, in the second half of this week Jupiter is forging a more testing link, so try to avoid overconfidence. Call for more...

Your creativity and imagination can be absolutely awesome in the first part of this week. But the big planetary T-square in the second half of this week, urges you to step outside your personal viewpoint when discussing any sensitive or family issues Cancer. Call for more astral advice...

Your relationship sector is highly activated. In a positive sense this can give you the drive to reach out to someone you’re strongly attracted to. Despite this determination, you can still make some nuanced observations, which could prove to be very alluring. Call for more news and advice...

Something may get discussed this week which is not terribly easy to digest. Perhaps you will need to raise a sensitive subject with someone close to you or it could be someone else who shares how they feel. See this as a gift, an opportunity to understand the less obvious sides of life. Call for more...

You can be in a real “can do” mode for much of this week Aquarius. Ironically, as the days progress, something you are happy to sacrifice your time towards can become somewhat more intrusive to your own need for space and freedom. Look to juggle with this. Call for more...

One particular friend or group can really capture your imagination in the first half of this week. There’s a brightness and freshness around your interaction with them, a slice of inspiration too. Yet managing your time and all the people in your world may not necessarily be easy. Call for more...

A fabulous connection between Mars and Mercury can see you sparking all sorts of initiatives and creativity. With Neptune also in the mix, your intuition can be just as important as your artistry. Financially, you might have to modify some of your hopes or demands. Call for more...

You could find yourself rather more sensitive than is usual. You can definitely turn this into a positive of course. But when it comes to talking to loved ones and family members and especially about any changes you might want to make, patience is going to be important. Call for more...

With just two weeks to go until the big day, organisers are rallying local women to join the fight against cancer as fewer women than expected have registered for the life-saving fundraiser. Organisers are calling on mums, daughters, sisters and friends to show their support and take part in the 5k event at Meadowhall Centre on Sunday 9 July. Entry closes on Friday 7 July and women across the city can sign up right now at www.raceforlife.org Emma Colbourne, Event Manager for Race for Life in Sheffield, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that over 1,000 women have entered Sheffield’s Race for Life. But we still need more women to come forward, sign up and help beat cancer sooner. So we’re urging anyone who has been thinking about taking part to join the fight and sign up today. “Everyone is welcome and it’s still not too late to enter. This is a call-out to remind the women of Sheffield just how important their participation and contribution is. “One in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives. Research is very expensive and the only way we can afford to fund it is with the help of our supporters. Money raised through Race for Life - whether it’s £10 or £100 - will help Cancer Research UK scientists find new was to treat cancer and save more lives.” Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring women-only series of 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy, Marathon and Hiking events which raises millions of pounds every year to find new ways to tackle cancer. Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work relies on the public’s support. Thanks to the generosity of its supporters, the charity was able to spend almost £4 million last year in Yorkshire on some of the UK’s leading scientific and clinical research - helping more men, women and children survive. Emma added: “Race for Life events are non-competitive and participants can choose to walk, jog or run around the course. Whether they’re planning a 5k amble with friends, a 10k sprint or a mud-splattered race around Pretty Muddy, every step participants take will help to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. “We’re sending out a rallying cry to Sheffield women of all ages, abilities, shapes and sizes to sign up right now and stand united in the fight against cancer.” To enter Race for Life visit www.raceforlife.org or call 0300 123 0770.

In fact, his career began even earlier - in 1949 – when he started his first amateur band which included Alexis Korner on guitar. In their respective ways, they have gone on to become major figures in bringing blues and gospel music to audiences of the UK and Europe. The Chris Barber Jazz Band of 1953 was a six piece line up. These days - known as The Big Chris Barber Band - it is ten in number. Chris’ explanation for that is ‘Throughout the years we have always enjoyed playing the music of Duke Ellington. From time to time we have brought to Europe the artistes we admire and

who would enable us to perform larger arrangements than could be achieved by a six-piece band.’. The Chris Barber Big Band, inspired by great Ken Colyer Jazz Men, features everything from New Orleans to blues to late 20's Ellington, played with extraordinary panache and skill. Featuring in the band is Bob Hunt – a student of Duke Ellington’s music and arranger of The ‘Duke’s’ music and the proud owner of a trombone once the property of Ellington trombonist ‘Tricky’ Sam Nanton! As Chris adds, ‘So we can all play those Ellington arrangements whenever we (or the audience) feel like it!’. The concert at Cast includes Chris’ favourites like "Bourbon Street Parade", "Jubilee Stomp", "Petite Fleur", “Ice Cream”, "When the Saints Go Marching In" and many more. Tickets for Chris Barber Big Band at Cast on Friday 30 June at 7.30pm are £20 are available at castindoncaster.com and on 01302 303 959.

TRAMLINES ANNOUNCE OFFICIAL CHARITY PARTNER Tramlines have named the Refugee Council as their official charity partner for this year’s event. The Refugee Council is a UK wide charity that works directly with refugees and asylum seekers, helping them to rebuild their lives and ensuring refugees have a stronger and more influential voice in decisions that will affect them. This is a cause that Tramlines is very happy to support, it is currently the 10 year anniversary of Sheffield’s status as the first official ‘City of Sanctuary’ for refugees. Over the years the city has accepted people from all over the world

including the recent conflict in Syria. Maurice Wren, Chief Executive of the Refugee Council, said: “We are delighted to be named as Tramlines Festival’s official charity partner for 2017. This partnership will help the Refugee Council raise funds and awareness so that we can continue providing vital services for the many refugees and people seeking asylum in Sheffield and across the country. “Our partnership with Sheffield’s annual music festival coincides with the ten year anniversary of Sheffield becoming the UK’s first City of Sanctuary. Over the years the people of Sheffield have opened their arms to thousands of refugees and people in seeking asylum, welcoming them to the city and supporting them to build new lives. This is a fantastic achievement, the impact of which extends far beyond the city.” The first, second and third tier tickets for Tramlines 2017 sold out in record time but the fourth release tickets are still available, priced at just £49.50 + booking fee from www.tramlines.org.uk

Helen Featherstone has been appointed as the new Director of Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust. Sheffield Industrial Museums are the showcase of Sheffield’s industrial story from early industrialisation to modern times. They include the most powerful working steam engine remaining in Europe at Kelham Island Museum and the last complete surviving crucible steel furnace in the UK at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet. Locally based Helen joins the trust in July 2017 and brings with her a wealth of experience having worked in the arts and cultural sector for almost twenty years. Helen is sad to be leaving the Arts Council England, where she holds a national role as Senior Manager for Engagement and Audiences, but is excited about the new opportunities here in Sheffield where she can continue to inspire and engage more people in arts and culture. Having lived in Sheffield for over 30 years, Helen attended the city’s Dobcroft and Silverdale schools before completing an MA in Cultural Policy and Management at Sheffield Hallam University. Helen also started her career in Sheffield working for Dead Earnest Theatre and Vincent Dance Theatre and is currently a trustee of Sheffield-based participatory arts organisation Ignite Imaginations. Helen will use her experiences and passion for the city to connect the work of the industrial museums with a range of local people in Sheffield and to attract those from further afield. Helen is interested in building on successes the industrial museums have had to date using different art forms to bring the ‘world class’ collections and heritage sites to life. Helen has a specialist interest in arts and older people and the relationship between arts and culture and health and wellbeing which will build on the ongoing community work undertaken by the trust. Speaking of her appointment Helen said, “I’m especially thrilled to be leading the industrial museums at this transformative point in time. As everyone who lives here knows, Sheffield's industrial history and the act of making is completely ingrained in this city and has made it the vibrant place it is today.

HELEN FEATHERSTONE TO BE NEW DIRECTOR OF SHEFFIELD INDUSTRIAL MUSEUMS

Arts, culture and heritage are important as they help us to make sense of ourselves and the world around us. These museums have a special place in many people's hearts, and it is an absolute privilege to be able to use my skills to work in the place I call home. It is also an exciting time to be part of the cultural scene in Sheffield as there is so much happening in the city. I look forward to working with the team to further make the work of the industrial museums relevant, useful and meaningful to people and local communities, and connect it to current innovation which is happening in the city today.” Alex Pettifer MBE, Chair of SIMT Board of Trustee said, “I’m delighted to announce that Helen will be joining Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust as Director. With her widely respected creativity and commitment to innovation shown through her portfolio of roles, we are certain Helen has the skills and passion to re-imagine our vision and lead us into the next era to determine the new face of SIMT.” The appointment marks the beginning of an exciting new era for the trust and follows the retirement of long-standing Chief Executive, John Hamshere, in June. During his 23 years of service, John worked tirelessly to bring investment into the trust’s three heritage sites, Kelham Island Museum, Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet and Shepherd Wheel Workshop. After expertly leading the trust through a succession of impressive restoration projects, he leaves the organisation on an excellent footing to start this exciting new chapter. Helen Featherstone will take up the appointment of Director of Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust mid July 2017.

COPING WITH HOT WEATHER

How to prevent heat exhaustion and heatstroke Who’s most at risk? Anyone can develop heat exhaustion or heatstroke during a heatwave or while doing heavy exercise in hot weather. However, some people are at a higher risk. These include: • elderly people • babies and young children • people with a long-term health condition, such as diabetes or a heart or lung condition • people who are already ill and dehydrated (for example, from gastroenteritis) • people doing strenuous exercise for long periods, such as military soldiers, athletes, hikers and manual workers Certain medications can also increase your risk of developing heat exhaustion or heatstroke, including diuretics, antihistamines, beta-blockers, antipsychotics and recreational drugs, such as amphetamines and ecstasy. Heat exhaustion and heatstroke can often be prevented by taking sensible precautions when it’s very hot. During the summer, check for heatwave warnings, so you’re aware when there’s a potential danger. The government uses a system called Heat-Health Watch to warn people about the chances of a heatwave. This is a system of four different warning levels based on the expected temperature. Public Health England (PHE) has also published a Heatwave plan for England, which suggests following the advice below during a heatwave to help prevent heat-related illnesses. Stay out of the heat • Keep out of the sun between 11am and 3pm. • If you have to go out in the heat, walk in the shade, apply sunscreen and wear a hat and light scarf. • Avoid extreme physical exertion. • Wear light, loose-fitting cotton clothes. If you’re travelling to a hot country, be particularly careful for at least the first few days, until you get used to the temperature. Cool yourself down • Have plenty of cold drinks, and avoid excess alcohol, caffeine and hot drinks. • Eat cold foods, particularly salads and fruit with a high water content. • Take a cool shower or bath. • Sprinkle water over your skin or clothing, or keep a damp cloth on the back of your neck. • If you’re not urinating frequently or your urine is dark, it’s a sign that you’re becoming dehydrated and need to drink more. Keep your environment cool • Keep windows and curtains that are exposed to the sun closed during the day, but open windows at night when the temperature has dropped. • If possible, move into a cooler room, especially for sleeping. • Electric fans may provide some relief. • Turn off non-essential lights and electrical equipment, as they generate heat. • Keep indoor plants and bowls of water in the house, as these can cool the air.

Carer’s credit is not a typical benefit, as you don’t receive any money for it. However, it’s important to claim it – otherwise your state pension could be negatively impacted. HAMMOND SPEAKS FROM HOSPITAL AFTER SECOND MAJOR CRASH Former Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond has thanked Swiss medical staff and apologised to his family after being hospitalised in another serious high-speed car accident. On location filming the latest series of The Grand Tour with co-presenters James May and Jeremy Clarkson, Hammond’s Rimac Concept One electric supercar came crashing off a notorious course last Saturday. Escaping the wreckage before it burst into flames, he was flown to hospital where he has been found to have a fractured knee. Back in 2006, the West Midlands-born speed enthusiast sustained brain injuries and was

considered lucky to be alive after a horrific crash in a jet-powered Vampire dragster while filming Top Gear. Having witnessed this latest incident, which occurred on Switzerland’s Hemberg Hill Climb course, Clarkson said he thought his co-host “was dead”. After initial recovery at a hospital in St Gallen, Hammond said: “Yes, it’s true, I’ve binned it. Again. The net result being I’m here in a hospital in Switzerland.” Referring to his injured knee, which he said surgeons would have to turn into a “Swiss Army knee”, he continued: “I’d like to thank all the medical professionals who got me by air ambulance from the crash and to this hospital and have dealt with me ever since. “And most importantly, sorry to my wife Mindy and my daughters Izzy and Willow.” It is not yet known what caused the potentially lifethreatening crash, which officials from The Grand Tour say is under investigation. Clarkson spoke of the “coldness” he felt when he realised the incident had involved his friend and cohost, saying that his knees turned to “jelly”. He said Hammond was referred to as a “body” after the incident, and that he did not want to see him, “not after a crash that big”.

response! My two rod set up had a different wafter on each, and I cast both out towards a reed line some sixty yards distant, and I sat back to with Clint Walker wait. I knew I’d have a bit of time to tidy up, as the method mix was sufficiently sticky to stay on Well, what a start to the opening day of the during the cast, so I set up a first brew of the day, season! I can’t quite believe the day I’ve had, sat amongst rhododendron and reeds, listening to the and put the kettle on to boil… Within fifteen minutes, I’d had a brace of decent birdsong, whilst hauling! I had intended to go to bream, both around 6lb 8oz, one on each rod, so the local river, a small, shallow stretch, and trot for dace, however, the conditions didn’t look quite I was unable to see which bait was preferred. An hour in, and I had half a dozen slabs, the best at right, so instead, I went to a beautiful estate lake 8lb 8oz, and I’d amassed well over 40lb of quality in search of tench and bream…after all its June fish, split equally between both rods; as soon as 16th! It’s a tricky venue, only fishable for around a third the method ball broke down, I was in! My first two hours provided plenty of rod bending action. of its nine-hundred-yard length, and then only from one side, and it has an abundance of natural If you read my columns regularly, you may know that my weapon of choice for most of my fishing food, meaning that it can be difficult to pick off is the Sonik Sports S3 Specialist rod, a fast fish with any consistency. I arrived early, and actioned 1.5lb test curve rod which makes playing walked the length of the available water to see fish an absolute joy; strong enough to tame big if I could see any fish rolling to give away their fish, but forgiving enough under the rod tip to position, but in the pegs where I expected to see lessen the chance of the hook pulling out… they fish, there were none. I wandered to the top of the are brilliant rods at a great price, and you should lake, and found that the wind had been pushing check them out if you enjoy specimen fishing. in for a couple of days, and as I watched, I spied It took almost an hour for the first tinca to slip a patch of fizzing bubbles, and saw a dark green up, a chubby green fish of about 5lb, which was flank roll over the top; I’d found my spot! quickly followed by a few more, until I’d counted I’ve recently changed my preferred bait, moving seven pellets into the tub, the biggest tench onto relative newcomer Spotted Fin. I’m doing weighing in at 6lb 2oz, the smallest a 5lb fish… exceptionally well with the 8mm wafter baits, a great session by any standard. By the time my the Classic Corn, and Catalyst Pellet varieties are visit ended, I’d fished for around five hours, now my ‘go to’ choice on most waters, and I like counted twelve bream to 8lb 8oz, and the seven to fish them off a method feeder, with a short, tench, banked a couple of roach, lost a better fish, pretied, Guru hook link. It’s simple stuff, but it’s and shared some bait with a friendly mouse… so effective! I made up a method mix combining what more could you ask for? A great start! Spotted Fin Carp Super Blend groundbait, a bit Earlier in the week, I’d tried the Spotted Fin 8mm of home prepared hemp, and finished off with a wafters using a different tactic to catch carp. The good handful of 2mm Betafin pellets. It resulted water in question was providing a perplexing in a dark mix, ideal to fish over the silty lake bed problem to some anglers, who despite tried and in shallow water, which I prefer, as I think fish tested methods, were failing miserably to put are less inclined to ‘spook’ off a bed of bait which much on the bank as a result of testing weather complements the colour of the lake bed. conditions. I chose simple tactics; a straight bomb Having said that, I know my wafters will stand rig, with an eighteen inch hook link, and size 12 out, and instantly become a highly visible target hook, upon which was banded an 8mm Catalyst once fish have attacked the method mix, and Pellet wafter. This time, I was using the Sonik S4 dislodged the wafter, which, hopefully, will rise Commercial Feeder rod, twinned with the AVX in front of the tench, and provoke an unmissable reel from the same stable, and aimed to cast at the limit of pellet catapulting distance; about thirty yards. My intention was to fire 8mm sinking pellets over the top at frequent intervals, and fish the wafter to try and intercept fish either chasing the pellets down, or grubbing them up off the You will be after a vist to bottom in around four feet or water. for an hour, I’d had a trio of chubby carp to middouble figures, and noted an angler moving pegs towards after having only one bite, which proved to be a carp of around 10lb. As the day progressed, I totted up seventeen carp in total, with just three under 10lb, and added eight bream, all around 3lb each, for a haul which I’d estimate at around 250lb. The angler who had moved towards me was still on a solitary fish, having missed only two other bites… I gave him some of my Catalyst wafters… During the next thirty minutes, before he packed up, and to my delight, he landed two more carp, and missed several bites, all on the baits I had shared… excellent! He left somewhat cheered, and thanked me on the way back to the car park, saying that he thought it unusual as most other anglers would just let him struggle! I’d much rather see another catch fish, than keep secrets… after all, I may

DEFENDER IS OWLS ACADEMY BOSS FOURTH BLADES SIGNING DEPARTS Academy manager Dean Ramsdale has left the Owls to take up his new role at City Football Group. The youth team boss steps down from his post at Hillsborough after five years of service and will take up his new position as Youth Scouting and Recruitment Manager at CFG. City Football Group manage a number of football clubs, including Manchester City, New York City, Melbourne City and Yokohama Marinos. Dean will work out of the City Football Academy campus in Manchester. Sheffield Wednesday would like to thank Dean for all his hard work and wish him well throughout his next chapter.

The Blades have completed a fourth summer capture with George Baldock agreeing and signing a three-year contract at Bramall Lane. An undisclosed fee with MK Dons has been confirmed for the defender’s services and boss Chris Wilder is delighted with the latest addition. Boss Wilder commented: “George is another to fit the bill of the squad we are looking to build here at Bramall Lane. He is a great age and has great experience and will provide us with competition for places in an important part of the pitch. We’ve tracked him for a while,

monitored his progress, and we’re looking forward to working with him when we return to pre-season training later this month.” Baldock, meanwhile, told sufc.co.uk: “I’m absolutely delighted to have signed and committed my future to this impressive club. “I was excited when I heard of United’s interest, for a number of reasons, including the manager’s record over the past couple of seasons and the passion of the fans when they travelled to Milton Keynes a couple of months ago.” Despite only being 24, Baldock has almost 200 career appearances to his name, mostly with MK Dons, for whom he progressed through their youth system, whilst he has enjoyed loan spells with Northampton Town and Oxford United. He played full games in both fixtures against the Blades last season. Ched Evans, Nathan Thomas and Enda Stevens have all already been added to Chris Wilder’s squad ahead of the Championship campaign, which kicks off in August.

OWLS TO FACE VITÓRIA DE SETÚBAL Sheffield Wednesday have added a second fixture to their pre-season schedule in Portugal next month. The Owls will face Primeira Liga side Vitória de Setúbal on Saturday 22 July at Estádio Municipal de Albufeira, with kick-off at 8.00pm. Vitoria fans have fond memories of their time with Carlos Carvalhal, who was head coach of the Setubal side on two separate occasions, bringing great success along the way. Carlos guided Vitoria to the Portuguese top flight in 2004 and returned in 2007, where he led the club to a sixth place finish in the Primeria Liga and subsequent qualification for the UEFA Cup. In the same campaign, they also lifted the Taça da Liga by defeating Sporting Lisbon in the final. The Owls head to Portugal on Monday 17 July and return to Sheffield six days later. As confirmed last week, Wednesday will also play Portimonense on 19 July.

BRADFORD TRIP IN CARABAO CUP Rovers will head to Bradford City in the first round of the Carabao Cup. Our fixture against Stuart McCall’s men will take place at the Nothern Commercials Stadium in the week commencing August 7. MILLERS’ BLUEPRINT EXCITES NEW RECRUIT Paul Warne’s plan for the future of Rotherham United was the key factor in Ryan Williams committing his future to the Millers. The Australian midfielder says it was Warne’s approach that persuaded him that his future was best placed at the AESSEAL New York Stadium, after he become Warne’s third summer signing this morning. Club News After receiving a phone call from the amiable Rotherham boss, Williams said it took a matter of minutes before he decided he wanted to sign for the Millers. “I heard a couple of weeks back that Rotherham were interested through my agent, and as soon as I heard that I knew it would be a move that would appeal to me,” Williams told www. themillers.co.uk “I got a call from the manager and that was the real turning point for me because within the first two minutes of the conversation I knew that this is where I wanted to be. It is a good club with passionate fans. The manager knows what he wants, and it is what I want as well, so it is a perfect fit for me. “The manager here didn’t sound like the majority of managers, and that’s why I was so keen to sign. He is different, he was engaging and I enjoyed talking with him. He has a plan here, and it sounded great and I was fully in agreement with what he had to say.” After beginning his career in his native Australia, the Perth-born winger moved to England initially with Portsmouth before switching to Fulham in 2012. During his time at Craven Cottage he furthered his footballing education with loan spells at

Gillingham, Oxford United and Barnsley. It was at Oakwell where he caught the eye, with the Reds agreeing to take him on a permanent basis for an undisclosed fee in 2015. During his first season he was hampered by injury, but now fit again, the 23-year-old made 17 appearances in The Championship last season. “I am really looking forward to playing here and hopefully get back to The Championship because everyone knows that is where we want to be,” added Williams. “There is no shying away from that, that’s what we want to achieve here. “There were a few clubs that showed an interest, but as soon as the manager here told me about the plans and my role in that, it made me want to come here. I’ve had a few injuries, but I’ve been fit for the past year now so that is all behind me. I am young, fit and hungry for success and I really want to play and that’s why I am here.”

KIWOMYA TO BRING GOALS Alex Kiwomya is looking to bring pace and goals to Doncaster Rovers and says he spoke to Jordan Houghton prior to penning a three-year-deal with the club. The forward signed from Chelsea after spending last season on loan at Crewe Alexandra, and explained that ex-Rovers loanee Houghton had nothing but good words to say about Darren Ferguson’s side. “I’ve got good vision and can link up play with my team-mates, I’ve got a lot of pace so hopefully I can use that to create and score goals next season,” he said. “I spoke to Jordan this week and he was saying that he’d love to come back as he really enjoyed his time here. “The manager puts a lot of time into being able to change formations during a game, the players all work their socks off so I’m looking forward to being a part of that.” The former England u19 international believes that regular first-team football is key for him at this stage in his career. “The main thing for me is getting consistent minutes on the pitch, the manager sees me as an important part of his plans so hopefully I can produce for him,” he added. “I know the club came in for me a couple of times last season but we couldn’t get the deal done, it’s nice to know they’ve had their eye on me for a while. “It was a hard decision to leave Chelsea as I’ve been there from the age of 14, but I think it was the right time to make a permanent move and show people what I can do.” See Alex in action at the Keepmoat Stadium next season by purchasing your Silver Memberships from the Club Doncaster Box Office or call 01302 762576. ROTHERHAM GOLFER QUALIFIES FOR NATIONAL LADIES FINAL Rotherham golfer Sarah Chapman has qualified for the National final of the American Golf Ladies’ Championship with playing partner Rebecca O’Grady from Morley. The Yorkshire pair won through regional qualifying at Wexham Park Golf Club with an impressive second place despite an incredibly testing event. O’Grady and Chapman battled not only the opponents but the British summer as the event had to be reduced to 9 Holes due to torrential rain. The pair still scored a very impressive 20 points which matched the eventual winners Suzie Hedges & Kathryn Naylor from Windlesham Golf Club. It was only after analysis of the final score cards that the Yorkshire pair narrowly missed top spot by virtue of 2 fewer points over the last 6 holes.

Both pairs now join qualifiers from all over the UK and Ireland in front of Sky Sports’ cameras at the Belfry Grand Final on 7th & 8th September. They will compete across two days to be crowned American Golf Ladies Champions and take the title of best Ladies Pair in the U.K. This win also puts them in contention for the Tournament of Champions in Mauritius, should they succeed at the iconic Midland venue. Local American Golf Manager, Andrew Dyson from the Meadow Hall store, commented, “To have won through to the National finals of the American Golf Ladies Championships is a great achievement and I’m delighted that the Yorkshire golfing community will be well represented. It will be an incredible experience playing on a Ryder Cup course and I can’t wait to see how our

Ladies get on.” “The Ladies Championship is one of our most popular events,” explained Daniel Gathercole, Director of Marketing and Communication at American Golf. “The spirit with which the ladies approach both the competition and the fun of the occasion is a fantastic advert for the game of golf. We can’t wait to welcome all our qualifiers to the Belfry and if it’s half the final that we had last year viewers on Sky Sports will be in for a real treat.” Entry to all of the American Golf Championships, including the American Golf Ladies Championship, is absolutely free and is part of the nationwide retailer’s drive to promote the game of golf and get more people out playing golf more often.
