APPEAL TO STAY SAFE OVER CHRISTMAS AS AMBULANCE SERVICE PREDICTS SURGE IN ALCOHOL-RELATED CALLS Around 2,800 of the 999 calls received by Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust (YAS) last December were alcohol-related, according to figures just released. The highest number of calls believed to involve alcohol during that month were received on Christmas Eve (155). December 2016 also saw a 16% increase in
the number of calls where the chief complaint was assault or unconscious/ passing out – 4,405 calls compared to 3,810 calls in November 2017, although these were not all necessarily alcoholrelated. The news comes as ambulance bosses issue an appeal to revellers to think about the impact of alcohol-related calls on other ill and injured patients
across the county. Stephen Segasby, Deputy Director of Operations at YAS, said: “While our ambulance crews are responding to patients who have simply had too much to drink or have sustained alcohol-related injuries which could have been avoided, they are not available to respond to life-threatening emergencies. “We are not saying people shouldn’t

enjoy a few alcoholic drinks while celebrating, but we would ask that they do it sensibly to ensure our ambulance crews are free to help someone who genuinely needs us.” Traditionally, YAS sees a significant increase in the number of 999 calls on the last Friday before Christmas, which has become known as ‘Mad Friday’. But with Christmas
Day falling on a Monday this year there is the added potential for two Fridays (15th and 22nd) to become ‘Mad Friday’. By drinking responsibly, and looking after yourself and others, you can avoid putting unnecessary pressure on the ambulance service at its busiest time of the year: - Make sure you know how you are getting home at the end of the night;
book a taxi or check the time of the last bus or train. - Eat before you go out.
- Stick to safer drinking levels; consider lower strength drinks and stick to singles
rather than doubles. - Alternate alcoholic drinks with soft drinks or water.

THE BABY JESUS FINDS ROOM AT THE… MOOR MARKET This year a historic city centre church will be hosting a carol service in the Moor Market. Father Grant Naylor, of St Matthew’s Church on Carver Street, is holding a mini carol services on Saturday 23 December, at 12noon and everyone is welcome. Father Naylor and his congregation have built up close links with the Market and this year they have set up a Christmas chapel with a nativity scene and a space for prayers. Father Naylor, said: ”The Moor Market is a really amazing place with fantastic people. At Christmas Christians believe that God came among us and shared in our life. “As a parish church we want to share in the life of all our parishioners including the market stall holder and customers. It is a joy to be involved in the life of this great city institution.” With Christmas around the corner the Moor Market is also counting down with festive workshops for children and a large Advent Calendar that gives people a chance to win a prize from the market. Prizes still left include
sausages, pet treats, chocolates and a blow dry or hairdo. For anyone who is already dreading what do with turkey leftovers, a cookery demonstration by Moor Market nutritionist Hannah Bailey, next Saturday 23 December, will teach people how to make a turkey and sausage pasta. Councillor Mary Lea, Cabinet Member for Culture, Parks and Leisure, said: “We are really grateful to Father Naylor for choosing to bring his services to the Market. I hope anyone who hears of it will come and join in. “These activities round off what has been a brilliant year for the Market. “The number of people coming to the markets has remained positive and the number of stalls opening in the market has reached its highest since it moved to the Moor and occupancy currently stands at 91 per cent. “Joining the market community is a new Thai café, a crepe stall and a Macmillan drop in centre. “We would like to extend our thanks and a Happy Christmas and New Year to the traders and customers, without whom we would not achieved this success.” Moor Market will be open until Christmas Eve, and reopen on 27 December. Details about the activities can be found on their Facebook page, facebook.com/MoorMarket

The full line-up for The X Factor Tour 2018 has been revealed after Sean and Conor Price won the public vote for the seventh and final spot on the tour via the Sun Online. The top six artists to also go on the tour are: Rak-Su, Grace Davies, Kevin Davy White, Lloyd Macey, The Cutkelvins and Matt Linnen. After more than 300,000 votes were cast in the Sun Online poll, Sean and Conor, who received a staggering 65.5 per cent of the final vote, will star in The X Factor Live Tour alongside this year’s winner Rak-Su, only the second group to have ever won the competition. Rak-Su are also the first ever X Factor act to have had three No.1 singles on iTunes whilst being on the show. Riding high in the charts after their win, RakSu dominated the iTunes charts with five simultaneous Top 10 tracks, charting at No. 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6, including original songs I’m Feeling You, Mona Lisa and Mamacita, as well as their phenomenal winner’s duet Dimelo (feat. Wyclef Jean & Naughty Boy) in aid of ‘Together for Short Lives’ and ‘Shooting Star Chase’. Grace Davies won the Prize Fight in Week 1 with her stunning and emotional performance of her original song, Too Young. The track also became the first song of this series to top the UK iTunes chart. Kevin Davy White won the weekend vote in Week 2 with his incredible vocal and electric guitar for his rendition of Santana’s Smooth. Lloyd Macey topped the weekend vote in Week 3 with his moving rendition of George Michael’s A Different Corner. As a result, he won the right to open for chart-topping superstars Little Mix on their arena tour in Manchester. INCREASED POLICING PRESENCE AROUND SOUTH YORKSHIRE As the festive season is now well underway, you may have noticed that there are more local and armed officers on the streets of South Yorkshire. As ACC David Hartley explains, this is not in response to a specific threat but rather to offer some visible reassurance while you’re out enjoying the Christmas period. “We don’t want the sight of armed officers to alarm anyone in our communities and sadly, following the terrorist atrocities elsewhere in the UK this year, we are becoming more accustomed to seeing our armed colleagues in crowded places and on routine patrols. “It is now fairly ordinary to see armed officers patrolling Meadowhall or the town and city centres, for example, and this will continue as we go through December and into the New Year. “The threat level across the UK remains at ‘severe’, which means an attack is highly likely. This follows two periods of the threat level being raised to ‘critical’ earlier this year, which saw support from the Civil Nuclear Constabulary, Ministry of Defence Police and the military for police forces across the country. “We continually review our patrol plans and as we approach an incredibly busy time of year for Christmas
shoppers, festive parties and celebrations, Christmas markets and other events for everyone to enjoy, we want you all to feel reassured by a visible policing presence. “We want you to go about your business as normal, making the most of what’s on offer and spending time with your friends and loved ones – our job is to keep you safe and the increased patrols is one element of our commitment to protecting the public of South Yorkshire. “It’s been said before, but if anyone is intimidated or has concerns about the sight of our armed officers – please go up and talk to them. They are friendly and approachable, and happy to explain a bit about
their role. “On behalf of South Yorkshire Police, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy festive season and best wishes for 2018.” If anyone wishes to report suspicious activity or has concerns, please call 101 or 999 if a life is at risk or a crime is in progress. We continue to support the national Action Counters Terrorism (ACT) campaign – if you wish to report suspected terrorist activity, you can also call the confidential hotline on 0800 789 321. More information about the campaign, including some advice, is available by visiting act.campaign.gov.uk/

STATE-OF-THE-ART HYDROGEN VANS GIVE SHEFFIELD DRIVE TO IMPROVE AIR QUALITY Move over van diesel, Sheffield is leading the drive to improve the city’s air quality with five new state-of-the-art hydrogen powered vehicles. The Christmas delivery means that Sheffield has the largest fleet of the environmentally-friendly vehicles other than Transport For London, with the promise of more to come. The five vans follow hot on the heels of Sheffield City Council’s new clean air strategy, launched last week. And the councillor responsible for air quality has led calls for more fleet vehicles to switch to the super-clean new vehicles, with grants available to offset the costs to businesses. These Renault Kangoo vans are standard electric vehicles, with the batteries providing the power to move the vehicle. The difference is that there is a 5Kw Hydrogen Fuel Cell built into the load area providing additional energy to the batteries, therefore doubling the range and the working time of the vehicle. In the hydrogen fuel cell, electricity is produced by a chemical reaction between the hydrogen from the tank and the oxygen present in the atmosphere: This reaction generates electricity that charges the batteries, with the only emissions being heat and water. This is vented from the van in the form of steam or droplets. Just like normal electric vehicles, drivers can charge a van’s battery overnight. The hydrogen is filled at the ITM Power fuel station, a Sheffield company, where hydrogen is produced through electrolysis using wind generated renewable energy. Councillor Jack Scott, cabinet member for transport and infrastructure at Sheffield City Council said: “Last week, Cabinet endorsed a bold new strategy to clean up our air and use alternative means of transport, including electric, hydrogen and
hybrid vehicles. The arrival of these new vehicles show the council is leading by example to clean up our air. It is great that we are at the forefront of innovation and making use of cutting-edge technology like this.” “This isn’t just about cleaner air, it makes good economic sense too, as the vehicles are cheaper to run and can pay for themselves over the long term. I want to help more businesses explore new green technology to make our city smarter, safer, cleaner and more energy efficient. “I’m especially proud that we are the largest organisation in the country, other than Transport for London, to make use of these five vehicles. It shows just how committed we are to this issue. We will continue to make Sheffield a cleaner and greener city whilst tackling our pollution problems in a positive and proactive way.” There are different ways of fuelling a vehicle to improve emissions and reduce pollution. New models of normally-fuelled vehicles should have improved emissions. Plug-in electric vehicles have zero tail-pipe emissions and many more new and improved models are being manufactured. Hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles could well complement these options in the future, offering quick refuelling and hundreds of miles on one tank. Dr Ben Todd, Managing Director of Arcola Energy added: “We are delighted to be supplying Sheffield City Council with Symbio fuel cell hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles. We applaud the leadership shown by Sheffield City Council in pioneering these vehicles which combine the low fuel cost and quiet, zero emission operation of a battery electric vehicle, with the all-weather range and fast fill of a hydrogen vehicle.” The vehicles have already been put into use across the city, working in areas such as parking services.

This week’s New Moon and a wonderful alliance between Mars, Neptune and the Sun gives you a unique opportunity to make progress around your worldly aims. To capitalise you are probably going to need to be tactful and sensitive to any situations that you’re interacting with. Call for more…
The last year has probably seen you make quite a lot of sacrifices for the good of others, and this may have been a tough road to travel at times. Ironically, it’s probably the area that you can continue to thrive in, but you only have a finite amount of energy and time. Call for more…
A stroke of fortune can come to you this week, but particularly where you interact skillfully with others. This may call upon you to reach out and connect with those who in the past may have been an anathema to you. Look to break down any blockages Taurus. Call for more news and advice…
It’s important for us to remember that whatever we say should be a reflection of how we really feel. The fast paced world that we inhabit sometimes makes it hard to avoid responding quickly. The change of the years can be a chance to be joyful, but profound conversations are possible too. Call for more…
Some say that you’re overly guided by logic. Of course, this is not always true, and it’s your more intuitive side which can guide you towards possibilities this week. This can also be a time when you are discovering who is really meaningful in your life and who is not. Call for more news…
The interesting thing is that as much as you can find yourself chiming beautifully with one person, this will probably be at a more social level. Deeper influences suggest that it’s family and emotional ties where the most significant and meaningful interactions will take place. Call for more…
On one hand, influences can spark renewal and revival around some involvements, and yet another can see relationships be precisely the areas which do not run as smoothly. You are likely to feel in dynamic form, but the trick is going to be in taking people with you. Listening remains key. Call for more…
The combination of current energies, as well as the continuing rewind of Mercury in Capricorn, suggests that while you can formulate some very individualistic hopes, it is going to be the way you express them to others which will be so important. Subtlety may be needed. Call for more…
As you count down to the New Year, there’s a sense that something radical needs to change with your life. This could be to do with work, health, life organisation and even relationships. You can get a strong feeling that you’re stepping away from one dimension into something new. Call for more…
There is a sense of spontaneity and even unpredictability around your love life or social interactions. But, as much as you could be drawn into the social milieu, another part of you may want to retreat or at least be with the people you feel most secure around. Call for more…
Your mind can be spinning with various possibilities. Some of these may include thinking of how you can re-deploy your skill set in some kind of new and creative way. Demonstrating your flair is something that is also supported by this week’s New Moon. Call for more news and advice…
There can be a deep need to feel part of something bigger and wider. Although you can still be developing your own personal hopes for the New Year, it’s a sense of connectivity or at least feeling very much at the heart of any wider interactions, that is going to be important to you. Call for more…

THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN ANNOUNCE ICONIC BRITISH MUSIC ACT TO PLAY AT THEIR FIRST LIVE SHOW IN 12 YEARS DONCASTER RACECOURSE IN SUMMER 2018
The League of Gentlemen will return to the stage in 2018 for their first UK tour in over 12 years with their brand new live show ‘The League of Gentlemen Live Again!’ will see BAFTA Award winning comedy legends Reece Shearsmith, Steve Pemberton, Mark Gatiss and Jeremy Dyson bring their dark and unhinged fictional village of Royston Vasey to theatres and arenas across the country. The critically acclaimed black comedy which originally ran from 1999 – 2002 on BBC Two, also returns to our television screens this Christmas to celebrate 20 years since the show began with three special episodes on 18th, 19th and 20th December 2017. Reece Shearsmith, Steve Pemberton, Mark Gatiss and Jeremy Dyson said: “The League of Gentlemen started as a live show over 20 years ago and in many ways performing in front of an audience gives us the biggest thrill of all. We’re overjoyed to be taking the citizens of Royston Vasey on a roadtrip and can’t wait to see all
the wonderful local places in our increasingly local country. Plus, we’d already gone to the trouble of getting the costumes and learning the voices again for the TV show, so we thought why not? Something to do isn’t it?” Tubbs Tattsyrup added: “I’m so eccited to take my preshus things on tour agen I did a little brown fish! Do wee go to
Swansea?” Tickets for The League of Gentlemen Live Again (subject to booking fees) at Sheffield City Hall are available online at www. sheffieldcityhall.co.uk through the ticket hotline on 0114 2 789 789 and in person at the Sheffield City Hall Box Office.

ANGLER’S CORNER
with Clint Walker
I fully intended to visit a commercial match type venue this week, hoping to put some new Spotted Fin baits to the test, but bought a pint of maggots, from the tackle shop, just in case… It was a good job I did. After overnight temperatures of -10c, the lakes I wanted to fish were frozen solid, so it left only one viable option; the river. I had awoken to a message telling me that the fishery was closed, and in truth, as I lay snug in bed, mug of tea to hand, and watched the clock spin up towards 8am, I was struggling to find the motivation to get up and go fishing. The ground outside was liberally covered with snow, with plenty of ice underfoot, and the air temperature wasn’t forecast to rise above -6c for most of the day, so a session on the river was going to be hard work. Thankfully, at this time of year, pike, chub, roach, perch and grayling are all potential targets, so I decided to try a swim on the River Dove which I know usually produces; my only worry was getting back off the car park in the snow! Surprisingly, the roads were clear, so the trip to the river took less than thirty minutes, and as expected, I was the only angler to be seen. I could see where others had been the day before, boot prints in the snow were an easy giveaway, so I knew some bait had been going in. I’d taken only maggots and bread with me, but plummeting temperatures overnight had frozen some of my gentiles, despite being swaddled in a padded unhooking mat, so I wasn’t hugely confident, but I hoped a couple of hours might not be completely be wasted... It was foot crushingly cold; the kind of cold that we up north call ‘long sleeve weather’, and as I trudged across the frosted field to the riverside, my breath hung in the air like a hipster’s vaper trail before dispersing; it was absolutely bitter! Thankfully, I still own a pair of ancient sea-boot socks, remnants of my time in the Navy, thick woollen sheaths which, over the top of a pair of cotton socks, usually prevents frostbite, but I could still feel the chill seeping up my legs as I sat down and contemplated the brown tinged, freezing river… I quickly pieced together a feeder rod, opting for my Sonik S4, inserted a 2oz tip, and ran the line through the rod rings. As it was so

cold, I knew that the rings would freeze, so each of the top four eyes got a liberal smear of household glycerine to prevent ice forming. I slid on a small maggot feeder, carefully taped to slow down the release of bait, and nicked on a couple of very lethargic grubs, before casting into the edge of the flow. The feeder bounced downstream and settled, I tightened up to put a gentle curve in the tip, and sat back to make a much needed cup of tea! Within a minute or so, the familiar nodding started as river debris bounced off the line; a slow pull around denoting a leaf, sharp taps indicating small twigs or other rubbish, and then a series of rasping rattles, much like a violin bow grating the line, alerted me to my first bite. Unsurprisingly, my first fish of the day was a pristine river grayling, a fine fish of less than a pound, but it was a fish; I hadn’t blanked! I love the way that grayling use their huge dorsal fin to try and aid their escape, kiting across the flow in a way designed to put maximum strain on my hook link, but to no avail; this one was netted, and rested in the net before return. By now, the sun had started to peep over the hills, bathing sections of the river in a fantastic winter glow, causing the cold waters to steam in the sunlight. It’s a sight I always appreciate, the beauty of nature is perhaps most apparent in winter, and as I enjoyed a little reflected warmth, the rod tip continued to rattle as a stream of grayling picked off the baits. I was hoping for chub, but anything was welcome on such a day! My next bite was different, a sharp tap, then the rod hooped over as a better fish tried to shed the hook. This one was a trout, one of four or five which was to trip up during the morning, and at a little over two pounds, a fish to behold in glorious winter colours. I love the variation in trout hues, bright red spots, brown smudges, silvery flanks, all appeal, and although the capture was unintended, they were a joy to catch! After a couple of hours, the sun had lit the water fully, slanting under the bridge to erase the shadows, and as a result, the fish retreated to other cover. I had fewer bites as the minutes passed, so decided that after a dozen fine grayling, and some itinerant trout, I’d had enough. I didn’t fancy moving to a different swim, so quickly packed up to return home. Despite my initial misgivings and laziness, I was glad I’d made the effort to fish in the snow. I’d happily spent a few minutes feeding a friendly robin, one which always seem to appear whenever I use maggots, waiting expectantly for a freebie, and I witnessed a pair of kingfishers, a barn owl, rabbits, and even an Environment Agency Bailiff as I sat by a beautiful winter river. If you ‘can’t’ fish because your lake has a lid on, then I can certainly recommend a morning by the river… try it, you may be pleasantly surprised!

BILBOE MAKES ‘FRIENDS FOR A FIVER’ BRIGHOUSE LOAN SWITCH AGAINST MK DONS
Rotherham United goalkeeper Laurence Bilboe has joined Brighouse Town on a one month Youth Loan. The young stopper, who graduated from the Millers Academy, enjoyed a loan switch to Sheffield FC earlier this season and joins the Evo Stik North side on a deal which will which means he misses next weekend’s home initially run until shortly after the turn of the game against MK Dons. But Rotherham bounced back from Ryan Taylor’s 82nd-minute year. Bilboe has featured on the bench for the opener through Semi Ajayi in stoppage time. Millers this season and has been a regular in “The game sort of flipped,” continued Warne. “We had nine attempts in the first-half and they the club’s reserve fixtures in 2017/18. had one. Then obviously it gave them a bit of impetus and they had a lot of the ball. I thought the effort the lads put in was phenomenal. I felt Willo (Ryan Williams) had nothing left to give, I felt his touch and control of the ball was good. “There was a lot of positives to take from today. On another day we might have lost that, but we also might have won it. Overall, frustrated not to win but chuffed with a point. “From where I was I’m thinking Woody’s got to go for that. In fairness the ref had a better view than me. I just think it’s the way football is and to get the second booking, the way it SAFETY MESSAGES FOR HOME GAMES happened was hugely disappointing. Over recent weeks Rotherham United, along with Speaking of Semi Ajayi, who thumped in other clubs in the Premier League and the EFL, the equaliser, Warne added “He deserves it. have been asked to review our counter terrorism I thought Ajayi was really good today. He’s really stepped up and he kept stepping in. Even procedures in the build-up to the festive period. All clubs have been given guidance from the Police the goal, it wasn’t an easy goal. It skittled and government bodies to try and reduce the threat about so I was really pleased for Semi. We of any incidents occurring, and as a result Rotherham defended resolutely.” United will be implementing some new policies

WE WERE EXCELLENT Playing the majority of the second-half with 10 men, Rotherham snatched a deserved point as Semi Ajayi scored in the third minute of stoppage time. “I thought we were excellent today,” said Warne. “Obviously they came to frustrate us and sit behind the ball. We said to the lads at halftime, try and move the ball a bit quicker and give them a bit more information on the pass when we do it and you’ve got more than enough to win the game. “I’ve just been told we had 18 attempts on goal so the fact that we came away from the game with a point is disappointing but the effort the lads put in was phenomenal. To be down to 10 men for nearly 40 minutes, I’m biased I know, but I still thought we were the better side. “Second-half I still felt we created the better chances and the group we’ve got in there are excellent. I’m really proud because it’s easy to come in when the team’s won and say how great we are. “I thought we showed real character there today. The same last week, we were one down and won 2-1. I was disappointed that we didn’t win, that would have been some game.” Richard Wood picked up two yellow cards
starting at this Saturday’s home game with Plymouth Argyle. It is important to note that there is no known threat to AESSEAL New York Stadium, but these measures are part of an ongoing review we have been working on for the past few months. It is important that supporters take note of the below advice and do all they can to assist stadium staff. We would like to thank all supporters for your understanding and co-operation as we look forward to a number of exciting games over the festive period. FERGUSON RUES LATE LEVELLER Manager Darren Ferguson was disappointed after Rovers’ 1-1 draw at home to Oldham Athletic in Sky Bet League One. Eoin Doyle’s 88th-minute leveller cancelled out Andy Butler’s header to snatch a point for the Latics, and Ferguson was left to rue yet another late goal costing his side points. “It’s a disappointing result and we’ve lost two points at the death, we haven’t had the rub of the green and that happens in football, my centre half slips and there’s nothing we can do about that,”
he said. “We lost some composure, but we should’ve won that, we just have to keep the ball better and you never think the game is done when you’re 1-0 with not long to go, but I’m not going to be critical because it was a very good performance. “I thought we didn’t start great but then we gained control, they play very expansive football and we dealt with them well and we deserved to win the game.” Rovers now face four games in nine days over
Andy Butler felt Rovers missed a good opportunity to take three points after drawing 1-1 with Oldham Athletic at the Keepmoat Stadium. Butler’s second half opener was cancelled out by Eoin Doyle’s late leveller, which meant Rovers had to settle for a point in Sky Bet League One. He said: “There is a feeling of disappointment more than anything for the team, it’s another late goal which has gone against us and we have to put a stop to that because it’s costing us points. “I think we played well up until a certain point in the game when we scored, after that we panicked a little bit and lacked composure. “They threw a lot of bodies forward and took a lot of risks late on and that’s when we had to step it up and control the game a bit more.” After leading for the majority of the second half, the defender is keen for Rovers to keep on doing
the right things on the pitch ahead of a trip to Bristol Rovers next weekend. “We’ve given everything to try and win the game but things aren’t going our way at this moment in time, whether it be late goals or individual errors,” he added. “We’ll work hard on the training ground to rectify our mistakes because the last two performances have been good, we just haven’t been smart enough to pick up a win. “We’ve got a big few games coming up against teams around us and that is where we need to be taking maximum points if we can.” Rovers return to the Keepmoat Stadium to face Northampton Town on Boxing Day, you can purchase tickets from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576 or at tickets. clubdoncaster.co.uk
the festive period, starting with a trip to Bristol Rovers next weekend, and Ferguson is keen for his side to gain momentum going into 2018. “We crack on and the performances, especially at home, have been strong, but Bristol isn’t an easy place to go because it’s a heavy pitch to play on and they’re in a bit of form as of late, but we’re due a bit of luck,” he added. “There were a lot of positives to take out of that, Alfie May’s come in and given us a good hour, Alfie Beestin has done very well and John
Marquis has been a handful as well so we can take that into next week. “We’re coming up to a pivotal part of the season, the home form is always going to be key and we’ll have players back, but I think it is important for us to go into the New Year with a lot of confidence.” Rovers return to the Keepmoat Stadium to face Northampton Town on Boxing Day, you can purchase tickets from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576 or at tickets. clubdoncaster.co.uk

WE DIDN’T DESERVE ANYTHING SAYS WILDER Chris Wilder was frank and honest in his assessment of the Blades 1-0 loss at Preston North End on Saturday. Jordan Hugill settled the contest in the Lilywhites favour at Deepdale, much to the obvious disappointment of the Blades boss. Reflecting on a third consecutive loss, Wilder remarked: “It’s another disappointing afternoon, the secondhalf performance in particular was poor,
barring a late rally in search of an equaliser we wouldn’t have deserved. “First-half we were more than a match for Preston, who changed their shape, but maybe we don’t deserve the respect we’re being given at the moment. “It’s another harsh interview but we need to find something to get out of this hole we find ourselves in, the players need to dig themselves out of it.” And Wilder refused
to make any excuses for the defeat, adding : “I’d be embarrassed to put the loss down to injuries, illness or suspensions. Of course, I’d love to have everyone available, but this is an opportunity for some players, some are taking it, others aren’t. “I need to get into them, we need to find an answer and quickly because we’re not used to losing and we’re not enjoying it.”
A QUALITY NIGHT, WITH A QUALITY PLAYER
goal, from a quality player” as TC scored in front of Bramall Lane Kop. Currie, of course, went on to play for England in an illustrious career and in particular a successful one with the Blades which is to be remembered with “A Quality Night With A Quality Player” event at Bramall Lane’s Platinum Suite on Friday 16th February 2018. Featuring a twocourse dinner, the night will look back at Currie’s career and include interviews with the great man and footballing personalities as well as unique film and photographs never seen before. United co-owner Kevin McCabe said: “I was lucky enough to be at Bramall Lane when he scored on his debut against Spurs in 1968. I think anyone there that day knew immediately that even as an 18-year old Tony was going to be a special player.” “TC” joined the Blades from Watford - signed by the great John Harris as a striker. But it would be his switch to midfield and the telepathic relationship he struck with winger Alan Woodward that would see him voted
as the Club’s greatest ever player by its own fans to mark Sheffield United’s 125th birthday in 2014. He played 313 times for United and won 17 England caps. National broadcast sports presenter and former BBC Radio Sheffield sports editor Paul Walker will host the tribute event, taking guests through TC’s incredible career - one that brought him back to his spiritual home, Bramall Lane, when his playing days ended to see him take charge of the Club’s Football in the Community programme before becoming United’s Ambassador a decade ago Don’t miss this chance to celebrate 50 years of our greatest son. Join the celebrations on February 16th, 2018 in the Platinum Suite - tickets are £45 per head, which includes a superb two-course meal. Doors open at 7.00pm A limited number of tickets for a VIP reception in the Legends of the Lane museum with the man himself - where guests can share a glass of champagne, have an intimate chat and receive an exclusive signed TC picture before sitting down to dine are available at £75 per head. The fiftieth anniversary of the Blades signing of Tony Currie - voted by fans as United’s greatest-ever player - is to be marked by a unique dinner and evening in his honour. Former teammates, guests from the world of football and Tony’s family and friends will be part of a special tribute to the midfield genius who’s flowing long blonde hair and imperious, classy football style were synonymous with a golden era at Bramall Lane. It was Match of the Day commentator John Motson who, when covering the United match against West Ham in March 1975, commented: “A quality

goal won the points but the Owls won the plaudits overall for a measured performance under the S6 lights. Carvalhal said: “I think we deserved something from this game, at least one point in my opinion.

think we needed more aggression so I put on Atdhe Nuhiu and Lucas Joao. “They had an impact and played in a positive way. I am proud of my players but, of course, I am disappointed to have lost the game.” Carvalhal issued an
update on late casualties Barry Bannan and Keiren Westwood, who each missed out having picked up injuries in training on Thursday. He said: “We prepared the team for this game with Bannan and Westwood to start but they both had injuries
yesterday. “We gave them the time to recover but they had pains in the abdomen area and could not play. “We will see what happens over the next few days, we will have some scans, and maybe they will be okay, let’s see.”

the first fan to get his hands on the brand new shirt when the Megastore opens its doors on Tuesday morning. We can also confirm that the team will be wearing the kit for the first time when Wednesday visit Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day. All sizes of the anniversary shirt will be available and supporters are advised to go straight to the counter to inform staff of their required size, with all sizes ready for quick pack and pay. This will significantly speed up the process of on what is expected to be an extremely busy day in-store. We are also advising supporters that due to the late arrival of the shirts, unfortunately there will be no personalisation service
until Wednesday 27 December to allow the Megastore to facilitate sale of a huge amount of stock in a short space of time ahead of Christmas. Freshly laundered shirts can be brought into the Megastore for printing from that date. Prices for the 150th anniversary shirts mirror those of the home shirts for a sixweek period beginning from Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, the club has received a new delivery of children’s home shirts for ages 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14, all of which are on sale now. Infant shirts and further adult sizes are due for delivery later this week along with the away kit and goalkeepers’ kit – full information will be confirmed in due course.

My advice to smokers wanting to stop is give it a chance and in my case the patches work’ Jodie said... ‘I have been a smoker for 15 years after losing my mum to lung disease I came to the clinic in The Moor and they have helped me to stop smoking and the help and
advice has been fantastic.’ Akram told us about his experience quitting.. ‘Been smoking since I was 17/18 and haven’t stopped until now. I have tried patches before but found it to be to helpful so I decided to go for something else and was told by my adviser that I might be able to use Champix. My advice would be – ‘be ready to quit’ and I recommend fidget spinners’ Would you like to be the next quitter to tell their story? if so please contact the service onSheffield 3216149 for more information and start your quit journey today.
