FREE FAMILY CYCLING FESTIVAL RETURNS TO SHEFFIELD IN JULY British Cycling and HSBC UK have announced that they will be returning to Sheffield in July following the success of last year’s free, family cycling event. HSBC UK Let’s Ride Sheffield (formerly Sky Ride) will take place on Sunday 15 July, when 6.5 kilometres of city centre roads will be closed to traffic to give thousands of locals the perfect opportunity to explore their city on two wheels. The HSBC UK Let’s Ride events seek to inspire people to get on their
bikes to address many societal problems which blight Sheffield and other major UK cities, including congestion, which Sheffield City Council is currently undertaking work to combat. This year’s event will have a strong community focus, linking up with local attractions, while along the route there will be a range of local community groups, bike shops, local performers and giveaways, with participants encouraged to hop off their bikes and find out more. HSBC UK Let’s Ride
Sheffield will be the seventh in a series of 14 events across the UK this summer, which are a key part of British Cycling and HSBC UK’s vision to get two million more people on a bike by 2020. Over 100,000 people attended last year’s events, cycling a combined total of over 1.5 million kilometres in the process. Sheffield City Council hosts a number of events, workshops and training programmes to increase cycling both as a leisure and commuting activity. It is currently developing

a 1.5 mile cycle lane in Deepcar, which will link the area to the centre of Sheffield alongside the River Don, and the city has recently become one of the largest providers of Ofo Bikes. The CycleBoost scheme consists of free cycle training, bike loans, bike doctors and discounted maintenance courses. To date, more than 2,300 people have borrowed a bike for free; 4,546 people have undertaken cycle training; over 300 people have undertaken a maintenance course; and
our mechanics have safety checked and made minor repairs to over 5,100 bikes. Successful cycle events have included the Parson Cross Let’s Ride Pop-up; the Howard Street Dual; the Allez Allez weekend, consisting of the Cote De Wincobank hill-climb; and community event and the Magnificent Seven featuring seven of the city’s steepest climbs. In addition to the cycling projects, the council is developing schemes to encourage walking, independent travel and improving travel options to work through the wheels to work scheme. Full details of the day’s activities and route will be announced in due course.

While e-cigarettes with a certain nicotine content are freely available to buy in shops, those with higher doses will have to be authorised as medicinal products under the EU Tobacco Products Directive. Now held across one site, Tramlines will deliver a wide array of entertainment for the celebratory event across four stages a pop-up cinema, a kids and family area, local breweries, party DJs, cool production and much more besides. The comedy offering at Tramlines is an exceptional one with TV regular and muchloved standup Henning Wehn, Sheffield’s own fictional singersongwriter John Shuttleworth, "Britain's only goth, lesbian, transsexual comedian” Bethany Black, Canadian and Mock the Week star Tom Stade, and Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Tom Wrigglesworth. More rib ticklers come from Jarred Christmas, Dana Alexander, Daisy Earl and others who can be found taking over the Leadmill Stage by day at Tramlines for those seeking an alternative form of entertainment. Chief amongst the latest musical additions is Tokio Myers - a London musician and pianist and winner of
Britain’s Got Talent 2017 who released his debut album to great acclaim at the end of last year. Plus Guardian One To Watch Tom Grennan who headlines the Leadmill Stage on Sunday at Tramlines as part of ‘The Reverend Jon McClure presents’ lineup, with his unique “polished pop-soul with a wideboy touch”. The much-loved Sheffield band, Everly Pregnant Brothers, will also play with their ukuleles and a lethal line in lyrics with covers of anything from Coldplay to Kings of Leon. This must be seen to be believed! For its 10th year, Tramlines remains dedicated to showcasing breaking talent over its genre spanning lineup. Further highlights include Rae Morris, a major label singer/ songwriter whose second album ‘Someone Out There’ has produced singles like ‘Reborn’ and ‘Dot It’ and confirms she is one of the most accomplished talents in her field; indie-pop stars Teleman, indie-rock trio Little Comets, cult shoegaze and girl pop combo Black Honey, London-based alt blues/ rock band, Palace, the high octane live duo Honeyblood, international psych explorers Flamingods, and the ambitious and hotly tipped local band King No-One. Year on year, Tramlines remains one of the largest and most popular inner-city music festivals in the country. Its new home – licensed for up to 40,000 people - is just 13 minutes from the city centre
by tram meaning it remains as accessible as before. The larger space can accommodate even more music lovers and can offer a wider range of world class headliners as well as plenty of exciting emerging acts and lots of great entertainment for all the family to enjoy. Tickets for the 10th Tramlines Festival have been selling fast. They’re now on sixth release costing £79 plus booking fee for a weekend ticket, covering all three days and are available from www.tramlines.org.uk. Keep an eye out for further lineup announcements by following Tramlines on social ‘@tramlines’.

EXPLORE SEVERAL ALTERNATE REALITIES IN SHEFFIELD THIS JUNE AT DOC/FEST 2018 Sheffield Doc/Fest (7-12th June) is proud to announce the first highlights of the Festival’s Alternate Realities Exhibition and Summit showcasing immersive and interactive storyforms. The 2018 Doc/Fest commission worth £12,000 is awarded to Face to Face by Michaela Holland, Michelle Gabel and Ivana Jiron. Two International Premiere VR projects for the Alternate Realities Exhibition are The Day The World Changed by Gabo Arora and Saschka Unseld, and Hold The World featuring a oneon-one with Sir David Attenborough – all reflecting a theme of human creation and destruction. Face to Face Face to Face, Sheffield Doc/Fest’s third
Alternate Realities Commission will receive its World Premiere in the Alternate Realities Exhibition, supported by Arts Council England. This immersive and interactive experience is the story of an American mother with two daughters – whose life was forever changed by a gun accident. The experience takes the audience through Michelle’s incredible story building to a climax that is both profound and unexpected. Chosen from a record number of highest quality international entries, Face to Face was selected by a committee that included Sarah Ellis (Head of Digital Development for the Royal Shakespeare Company), Katy Yudin (Executive Producer of the Future of Storytelling Festival in New York) and Dun Tucker (Curator of Alternate Realities).
For the 2018 Alternate Realties Exhibition, Doc/Fest is also proud to announce two International Premiere VR projects that showcase a range of new technologies and evolutions in the emerging field of immersive storytelling:
The Day the World Changed The International Premiere of The Day The World Changed – from VR auteurs Gabo Arora and Saschka Unseld – is a powerful and meaningful immersive documentary that has a clear message about nuclear disarmament. Combining for the first time archive, animation, photogrammetry, 3D scanned objects and native VR tools to deliver an experience for four people at a time through HTC’s Vive VR headset. In partnership with Nobel Media and Nobel Peace Prize
Laureate, International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, this is a VR documentary that showcases the potential of the new medium. Hold the World The international premiere of Hold The World is a one-off virtual reality encounter with natural historian Sir David Attenborough, made by Factory 42 for Sky VR. Using the latest volumetric capture technology, Sir David is represented in virtual reality in unparalleled high fidelity, allowing a one-on-one guided journey through a series of fascinating natural history specimens that the audience can interact with, learn more about, and reflect on how the past informs the present. CELEBRATE THE JOY OF SAX AT CROOKES SOCIAL Leading British saxophonist, composer and jazz educator, Martin Speake embarks on a 60th Birthday Celebration Tour, calling in at Crookes Social Club this weekend on Friday 20th April. A member of the saxophone quartet Itchy Fingers in the 80s, Speake left the group to develop his own projects and establish himself as a composer and improviser. He has recorded 18 albums under his own name of diverse projects including the internationally acclaimed ECM release Change Of Heart with Paul Motian, Bobo Stenson and Mick Hutton. Speake met pianist Ethan Iverson in 1990 at Banff
Centre for The Arts in Canada where they studied for a month with Steve Coleman, Rufus Reid, Kevin Eubanks, Stanley Cowell, Kenny Wheeler and many others. Speake invited Iverson to play on his latest album Intention, along with bassist Fred Thomas and drummer James Maddren. The album features nine original compositions written at different points in Speake’s life, some from his early albums. “‘The Heron’ and ‘Magic Show’ were originally recorded on Trust, my second album under my own name. ‘Hidden Vision’, ‘Blackwell’, ‘Spring Dance’ and ‘Intention’ are from my first album In Our Time,” explains
Speake. It is fascinating to see how my approach has developed since those albums and how the musicians on Intention interpret these pieces.” The breadth of Speake’s music is captured in this album ranging from the beautiful opening track ‘Becky’, portraying the sadness of an estranged father, to ‘Twister’, a groove influenced by John Scofield and Eddie Harris, a new twist on Charlie Parker’s ‘Charlie’s Wig’, closing with ‘Intention’, a track inspired by Wayne W Dyer’s book The Power of Intention: Learning to Co-create Your World Your Way. A concert in aid of the above charity will be held at the Wheatley Working Men’s Club on Saturday, 12 May 2018. I would like to thank all those who have given their time and expertise in organising this event. There have been a number of other events organised by numerous pubs and clubs and I wish to thank them all for their efforts. The Firefly Cancer Awareness Support Group do magnificent work in organising transport to and from treatment centres, and I am profoundly grateful for the (hopefully) life saving treatment their service has made possible for me personally. Also, I would like to say a special thank you to the volunteer drivers of Firefly who give their time so generously. If any other pubs or clubs wish to organise a similar charity event on behalf of the Firefly Cancer Awareness Support Group, please do not hesitate to contact me for any assistance I can give. Firefly can be contacted on 07738390541 C.Bennett Concert Secretary Wheatley Working Men’s Club 01302 360984 38 Wentworth Road Doncaster 01302 324166 or 07985482428

I’ve been back to Rode Pool again this week, a jewel on the card of Stoke-on-Trent Angling Society, to continue my pursuit of carp from this tricky mere. A cold wind had sprung up overnight, a chill breeze from the east, whipping across the lake in the opposite direction to the usual prevailing winds, and I opted to set up on the back of it, hoping that the fish would be huddled in slightly warmer, calmer water at the top of the lake. Once again, I chose to fish with tiny pva bags and popped up baits, but instead of the boilies I’d used last week, this time I tied up walnut sized bags of Spotted Fin particle mix, added my hook baits, and fired both out to the edge of marginal reed cover on the far bank. On the first, an 8mm wafter was pinched into a bait band against the hook, on the other, a 15mm Smokey Jack pop up was attached to the rig ring, and both were quickly settled, lines sunk, and rods placed gently on the rests as I sat back to listen to the woods wake up… I enjoy sitting in the woods at Rode Pool. Cushioned from any traffic noise by ancient oak trees which provide a shady canopy, the bankside cover always has something to see, and the water is home to a multitude of waterfowl. I love to watch flitting visitors that I rarely see elsewhere, little egret and oystercatchers amongst them, and it really is a place to just sink in, relax, and enjoy fishing purely for its own sake. Even with other anglers on the bank, I can still find solitude amongst beautiful surroundings, and despite it’s tricky reputation, I still keep coming back! For the first time this year, I noted swifts and swallows skipping across the surface, snatching midges, indicating a possible recent bloodworm hatch. Rode has vast beds of bloodworm, on which I suspect that resident fish can become preoccupied, so I made sure my baits were in the midst of them! Despite my considerations and deductions, nothing happened all day. I had no indications, no bites, and saw no fish. I’d obviously got my tactics completely wrong, and having heard that at least four tench had been caught in the teeth of the wind much further down the lake, I can only write it up my notes, learn from it, and try not to make the same mistake again… A day later, and I sat in the car park at a different club lake, and watched the rain hammer the windscreen as I sat huddled over the heater. It was cold again, a sudden downturn in overnight temperatures had seen another weather system passing over the UK, and I really gave serious thought to turning around, going home, and climbing back into bed! Rain was forecast for much of the day, meaning I’d have to set up, and pack away in it… not something I ever enjoy. My phone bleeped. A message from fishing chum Andy confirming that he was still on his way. That decided it, I was going to have to get out into the rain and get sorted. At the back of the van, I stepped out of my trainers, slid my leg into my salopettes, and reached for my boots. I stumbled (I’ve never been very well balanced) and my besocked foot landed squarely in a large, muddy puddle. A great start which certainly didn’t improve my mood! However, barrow loaded, I squelched off to find my peg, and after walking a few hundred yards in the teeming downpour, pitched up beside an area of bushes which would at least give some modicum of shelter. Only one rod is allowed here, so it was quickly pieced together, the same rig left on from the previous day, which was rebaited with a fresh

Smokey Jack pop up, re-armed with a tiny bag of matching pellets, and fired out to where I’d seen fish rising. The brolly was up and pegged down, and I sat miserably beneath it as the rain dripped onto my boots, and I waited for the first action of the day. I was the only angler on the bank, and I watched carp sipping at midges on the surface, smashed out of the air by raindrops, as yet more swifts and swallows darted speedily over the water enjoying a feast of flies. Andy arrived with his young son Liam, and they set up in their favourite peg next to me, quickly hiding under a canopy of nylon as the rain continued. Other anglers ventured onto the far bank, which made seven of us on the water, then another further up ‘our’ bank, and a further hardy soul in the distance made nine; all looking dejected, and after a few hours, all of us biteless. I’d had a single line bite, but nothing else, Andy and Liam’s alarms were silent, and we hadn’t seen anyone catch on the far side either, so it became obvious that it was going to be a struggle all day… Eventually, a twitchy run had me by the rod, and although the alarm had stopped, the rod tip continued to flex, so I picked it up and connected with the first fish of the day. After a few minutes, a lean double figure common lay in the folds of the net. It was quickly unhooked, treated, photographed and returned, and then the bait repositioned, before I sent the picture to the swim next door to gloat… Hours passed, and nothing else had happened until I noted a gracefully curving rod tip over the brambles between us; Liam was into a fish, and as my bait was currently on the bank being changed, I wandered over to see him land a beautifully dark mirror well into double figures. Elsewhere, no-one else had caught anything… Through the binoculars, I saw a bream netted on the far bank as others continued to struggle for bites. I had another tentative run, missed it and recast. A third run saw a low double figure mirror quickly released, a fourth saw me lose a fish, and a fifth resulted in another common on the mat. Andy and Liam hadn’t had anything else, so it looked like I was the only one seeing any results. Earlier, I’d changed my bait, moving from the red of the Smokey Jack to the yellow of the Classic Corn pop up, twinned it with a bag of Catalyst pellets, sprayed it with pineapple and N-Butyric booster, and also increased the length of my fluorocarbon hook link to move things away from the lead, which I was convinced they could see in the clear water. It looked like it was paying off… Andy and Liam departed, as did all but one angler on the far bank. My chums had seen no more fish, and I was just having ‘one last cast’ before disappearing myself. As Andy opened the gate to the car park, I had a further fish, another double figure mirror bringing my tally to four and two missed, before I too packed up in the rain and set off for the warmth of the van. Only two other carp came out, both after I’d gone home, so overall, I was pleased with my haul during miserable conditions. Little changes had made a big difference; both Andy and I know the water well, and often fish similar tactics, but on the day, it just wasn’t working, so I’m glad I tweaked things to keep the fish guessing. Next week, the forecast promises Mediterranean sunshine, so no doubt the behaviour of the fish will change again, but I know that at some point, I’ll be stealthily ensconced beneath those ancient oaks, hoping for an elusive Rode Pool carp, and I’ll have another session too somewhere else, just to keep me interested. Hopefully, summer is now well on the way, and before long, the floater kit can come out, but until then, I’ll dry off my sodden socks, shake out the brolly, and keep plugging away whatever the weather!

MILLERS GOOD VALUE FOR POINT ON THE ROAD - WARNE
Millers chief Paul Warne believed his side earned a deserved side of the spoils following a goalless draw with table-topping Wigan Athletic. In an enthralling encounter at the DW Stadium, the Millers started and finished the game the stronger – with Michael Smith and Ryan Williams going close in the early exchanges before Williams struck a fierce effort which shaved the home crossbar, late on. Speaking to the assembled media afterwards, Warne was proud of his side’s display against the Lancastrians, who look well-placed to be plying their trade in the Championship, next season. “We asked the lads to play brave when we were in possession and frustrate them when we didn’t have the ball,” Warne revealed. “I thought we started the game well and could have gone one or two up in the first five minutes. We weathered the storm a little bit after that and at the start of the second half, I thought Wigan were excellent. They are champions-elect and possibly the best team in the league by a country mile, but I thought we defended pretty well. We rode the storm. “In the last 20 minutes we were by far the better team and on another day, we may have nicked it. We had a few corners and set-pieces and may have had a penalty. I’m proud of the lads. We asked to play brave against a good team and I think they did. It’s a good day at the office.” For the trip over the Pennines, Warne reverted to a 4-5-1 formation – with Smith acting as a lone frontman. The move paid dividends as the Millers frustrated Paul Cook’s side, for large spells. Despite this, sub James Vaughan could have snatched victory for the hosts, in one of the last acts of the game, but he blazed a point-blank header over when it looked easier to score.
FERGUSON PLEASED WITH REACTION Darren Ferguson was pleased with the reaction his players showed in the 2-1 win over MK Dons in Sky Bet League One. Rovers trailed at the break after Ike Ugbo’s opener, before a John Marquis double in the second-half secured all three points at stadium:mk. He said: “I thought we were very good in the second-half and found a way to win the game, we were knowhere near before half-time and we needed to change that quickly. “I was pleased it was only one, we didn’t play with any energy and lost our individual battles, but then

There is so much work going on by staff at the club and at the Club Doncaster

“I didn’t go gung-ho. It was a hard job for Smudge (Smith), but we tried to get people in support every chance we could,” Warne added. “I’m really pleased with the lads. I think we got the tactics spot on and on another day, we may have nicked a goal but it wasn’t to be. “There were some really good performances. Icky (Ihiekwe) came back in at centre-half and put in a really good display and I thought Tayls (Taylor) and Willo (Williams) gave us real energy and pace down the sides.”
On Sunday 8th April our ability counts premiership team were crowned champions of the South Yorkshire Ability Counts League. Our title winning campaign started on Sunday 10th September 2017 with an impressive 7-1 win over Club Doncaster Titans and a 4-1 win over Wisewood. Throughout the season we put in some great performances to challenge the toughest teams in the league. The lads played 10 games this season, scoring 33 goals in total and only losing 2 games. It all came down to the last two games of the season, with us and Derek Dooley on the same points going into the final set of fixtures. We managed to secure a 2-1 win over Doncaster Communication College which was a very close game and then it was all down to the final game of the season vs

He added: “They had to go for it and had to win the game, we couldn’t really get out late on but the team put their bodies on the line to make sure we got the win and showed great determination. “We knew what to expect but whoever we come across are going to have something to play for, I expect a certain level of energy and performance from my players and I saw that in the second-half. “In the end we couldn’t add to the two goals we got but the lads gave it everything, the character they showed was great and we’ve shown that we’ve still got the determination to win games at the business end of the season.”

Games are coming thick and fast in the County Senior League, with midweek matches taking up most of the schedule. The backlog was further exacerbated this week with more postponements due to the rain. Luckily the weatherman is predicting brighter times in the next few weeks as we head into the home stretch. Premier Division The Premier Division title race is hotting-up. Second placed Stocksbridge Park Steels Reserves hosted third placed Swinton Athletic on Monday night. Swinton took all three points, with a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Owen Fieldsend and Andrew Whitehead. Stocksbridge bounced back straight away from the defeat on Wednesday night, with a 2-1 away win over Oughtibridge WMFC. There is only a three point gap between Stocksbridge and Swinton though, as Swinton beat Handsworth Parramore Reserves 3-1 on the weekend. Frecheville lead the way by a point but have played more games than both Stocksbridge and Swinton. The Denaby derby between Denaby United and Denaby Main took place on Saturday at Old Road. Denaby United were looking for revenge after they lost the first derby 2-1 in September and they got it. Denaby United ran-out 5-3 winners this time out. Goals from Simon Chadburn and Daniel Ravenscroft were enough to give Wombwell Main a 2-1 away win over Oughtibridge WMFC on Saturday. There was also another 2-1 win midweek, with a South Kirkby Colliery beating Houghton Main at Middlecliffe Lane. Division One After a few weeks of almost clinching the Division One title, Dodworth Miners Welfare confirmed their championship on Saturday. They knew a point against third placed High Green Villa would be enough, and
City Knights.City Knights had just won 1-0 against Derek Dooley in the previous game, which meant we needed to gain 3 points from City Knights to win the league on goal difference. The must win game for Rotherham United started off very close and the score line was 0-0 for the first 20 minutes, with the City Knights keeper pulling off some impressive saves. It went down to the final few minutes, where James Hammond broke through and scored to make it 1-0. The final whistle went and thanks to James Hammond’s last minute goal, Rotherham United were crowned Premiership champions of the South Yorkshire Ability Counts League. We would like to congratulate Mickey Parkes, Connor Worrall, Keith Parker, Danny Grubb, Kyle Reid, James Hammond, Callum Majer, Chris Flanaghan, and Chris Sanderson for a fantastic season and thank them for their continued effort in training and matches. that was exactly what they achieved, with a 1-1 draw at home. Dodworth have been excellent this term, with 18 wins from 21 games played. It has been excellent week for Hepworth United, who have moved into second place after back-toback wins this week. On Wednesday they were 1-0 winners away at Hemsworth Miners Welfare and they followed that up on Saturday with 3-2 home win over AFC Dronfield. The aforementioned Hemsworth were also beaten on the weekend 8-1 by Kiveton Park, who leapfrogged them into sixth place. There was a big win for second bottom Stocksbridge Park Steels Development at Phoenix Sports Club. Stocksbridge claimed a vital three points with a 2-0 win over 10 man Brinsworth Whitehill. Goals from Scott Kelly (2), Stephen Davis and Robert Womack gave Ecclesfield Red Rose 1915 a 4-2 away win over Brinsworth on Saturday. Ecclesfield also claimed a point midweek, as they drew 1-1 away at Sheffield Medics. Division Two It was an up-and-down week for league leaders Burngreave FC, who opened the week with a 5-2 loss at Wombwell Main Development. However, they beat Swinton Athletic Reserves 2-1 away on Saturday. And their week definitely ended on a high, as second placed Boynton Sports were held to a 3-3 draw by Sheffield Bankers Reserves on Saturday. In what appeared to be a triangle of games, the bankers had beaten Swinton 4-2 on Wednesday night. There were two big home win for Caribbean Sports Reserves. Midweek they beat Manor Hotel 11-1 and on the weekend they were 7-1 winners over Maltby Main Reserves. Third placed Manor Hotel did not get hung-up over their heavy defeat, as they beat bottom side Thurcroft Miners Institute on Saturday. Goals from Daniel Evans, Ryan Horsfield, Ricky Sidebottom (2) and Jonny Hudson gave Worsbrough Bridge Athletic Development a 5-2 win against Working Wonders on Monday night at the Rockingham Centre.

Bryan was also named the overall PFA Community Player of the Year. WILDER FRUSTRATED FOLLOWING LIONS DRAW The Blades boss was disappointed at surrendering the hard fought lead so easily against Millwall.
Chris Wilder was frustrated his side didn’t claim three crucial points against play-off rivals Millwall at Bramall Lane on Saturday afternoon. Leon Clarke’s 18th of the season looked to have given the Blades a second consecutive home victory, but Steve Morison levelled for the Lions straight from the kick-off following
Clarke’s opener, much to Wilder’s annoyance. He remarked: “I suppose in the end it was a fair result. “We couldn’t find that quality and when we did we weren’t clinical. The goal we conceded was a poor one to give away, especially having just gone in front. “It was a tight game and we felt there was only go to be one goal in it, so we have to make sure we defend long balls. “It’s not a defence splitting pass, it’s basically a punt of Cooper’s left boot and it should be dealt with,
but it isn’t and it’s a good finish.” Wilder added: “The atmosphere in the stadium completely changed in a matter of seconds, from seeing the manager running down the touchline celebrating to knowing we’ve switched off and being punished. “We’re conceding poor goals and it’s proving costly, we’re not getting cut open, we’re just conceding bog standard goals that would be disappointing in any division.”
BLADES STILL IN PLAY OFF HUNT United remain firmly in the play-off race, despite seeing the momentum halted by Millwall at Bramall Lane. Leon Clarke’s 18th of the season appeared to have set the Blades on course for a crucial three points, but Steve Morison’s reply for the Lions denied the Blades the opportunity to crank up the pressure on the teams above. For the lunchtime encounter with the Lions, Blackman and Stearman returned, with Moore and Wright both dropping to the bench. The atmosphere was electric at kick-off and Evans almost picked up from where he’d left off against Middlesbrough, but his curling effort went inches wide, with Archer beaten. Fleck was the next to try his luck following a poor throw out by Archer, but the goalkeeper made amends with a comfortable save. In the 22nd minute, Millwall had their first chance of note, Hutchinson found himself in space at the back post from Marshall’s deep corner, but Blackman claimed the ball at the second attempt, under pressure from Gregory. At the other end, Cooper’s end took the ball away from Stevens, before Lundstram headed over
in the second phase. United continued to shade proceedings, with Clarke dragging an effort wide with angle against him and moments later Fleck was denied by Archer, after capitalising on some hesitation in the Millwall midfield. The visitors were presenting a threat from set-pieces, with Cooper and then Wallace denied by timely blocks. In the final minute of the first-half, Williams was the first to be carded by referee Coote for pulling down the advancing Lundstram. And the final action of the half, saw Archer deny Stearman at the expense of a corner, where Basham was unable to deflect Clarke’s header at goal. At the break, Duffy replaced Lundstram, but it was the visitors who almost opened the scoring at the beginning of the second period, but Gregory was unable to score after latching onto to Duffy’s short back pass. In response, Baldock forced a spectacular save from Archer from O’Connell’s inviting left-wing cross. Just before the hour, Sharp was introduced in place of Brooks. But it Blackman who United needed to call upon moments later, with the goalkeeper saving excellent to deny Williams with a header
from Marshall’s corner. Stearman was booked for a foul on Morison and subsequently replaced by Lafferty, as Wilder changed the formation. Duffy then broke free of Romeo, but his effort went wide of Archer’s post. But in the 75th minute the Lane erupted as United went in front. Evans whipped in a ball to the back post and from O’Connell’s header across goal CLARKE was jogging on the spot to apply the finish. But the Lions hit back more or less straight from kick-off to restore parity. Cooper’s punt forward fell perfectly for MORISON to divert to ball past an advancing Blackman. Saville was booked, as was Marshall as tempers became fraught. Millwall continued to cause problems from corners, with Baldock almost diverting Morison’s header past Blackman. Back at the other end, Baldcock’s cross saw Archer save from Sharp and Clarke was unable to force home the rebound. Spurred on by the Kop, Duffy’s effort looked goalbound only for Hutchinson, who had earlier volleyed over at the other end, make a crucial block. Four minutes of added time were signalled and the Kop thought referee

BLADES TO FIGHT UNTIL THE END Chris Wilder insists the Blades will continue to fight in the race for the Sky Bet Championship play-offs. Chris Wilder insists the Blades will continue to fight in the race for the Sky Bet Championship play-offs, following Saturday's stalemate with Millwall. Speaking after the draw at Bramall Lane, Wilder remarked:
"The result didn't enhance our hopes of a top-six finish, but like I said to the players after they were down following the loss at Barnsley, the picture can change quickly. "This league is unpredictable, Burton, who looking like going down beat Derby, who perhaps should be in the league above." The Blades boss added:
"Two weeks ago, Burton come so close to beating Middlesbrough, who equalised right at the death. "You just can't tip the results, but I'm frustrated and annoyed we're having to rely on others, saying that with three games to go our season is still alive and the players deserve credit for that."

ENERGY & MOTIVATION Three wins in four away games, four in six overall, and Jos Luhukay reflected on a largely productive period for Wednesday. Jordan Rhodes’ first half goal won the points at Hull and Luhukay hailed the efforts of
his players – and the impact of the travelling support off the pitch. He told swfc.co.uk: “The fans were unbelievable today, they gave the players extra energy and motivation. “We have had a

demanding schedule of five games in 14 days and sometimes you need that lift and the fans provided that today. “They were singing and making the noise all the way through and I am very glad they are

going home with smiles on their faces tonight.” Luhukay was also pleased with the impact of the recalled Rhodes, who netted for the first time under the new manager. He added: “Jordan has worked very hard in training and this goal was his reward. “The confidence of strikers depends on the goals so I am happy for Jordan to score and even more so because his goal won us the game. “I am very proud of all my players, sometimes I do not know where their energy comes from. “We are very much together with good spirit. On Tuesday we lost as a team and today we win as a team.”
HUNT - NO LETTING UP The Owls may be mathematically safe of any danger at the wrong end of the table but for Jack Hunt, there is plenty at stake over the next month. The right back views the remaining three games as a chance to prove a point ahead of the summer break. While the 27-year-old has endured spells of this season interrupted by injury, Hunt feels those problems are firmly behind him as he looks to the future with the Owls. Wednesday host Reading on Saturday and round off the season with a trip to champions Wolves and a home clash with Norwich on the final day Hunt said: “They are really important games. The manager will be looking at his team for next season. “He’ll be looking for the players he wants and I’ve got to do all
I can do to make sure I’m in that team for next season. “I thrive off playing 90 minutes, that’s the way I have been all my career and nowhere near have I ever come off as much as I have done this season. “But I feel like my injury problems are behind me, I’ve got through that sticky patch but Saturday was just another example of the kind of luck we have had this season.” The defender left the KCOM Stadium delighted with his contribution which led to the decisive goal, playing an accurate ball into the middle for Jordan Rhodes to head home. He added: “That’s my job as an attacking player, to provide goals for the team. “Jordan was in the right place at the right time and he did really well. He got the chance against Hull and he definitely took it.”
