NEW GIVING CAMPAIGN LAUNCHES IN DONCASTER Doncaster Council is pleased to be supporting Real Help Doncaster, a new partnership scheme that helps people off the street and into a healthier and safer lifestyle, is urging people to change the way they give and not give on the street. Real Help Doncaster - a local fund that helps homeless and vulnerable people off the street and into a healthier and safer lifestyle. Providing an alternative to giving on the street, the primary aim of Real Help Doncaster is to provide a way for people who want to donate to know
that their support will contribute to ‘ real help’ instead of money being used for the wrong reasons including possible drug and alcohol abuses and contribute to keeping people begging. Launched this week, the multi-agency scheme provides quick help for practical items that can help people off the street. This could be money to access training courses, furnishings, travel costs or help to set up a home. Local charities and organisations will work directly with individuals to apply for funds. It is part of the action plan that was agreed by partners to
tackle the issues in the town centre and antisocial behaviour. Councillor Chris McGuinness, cabinet member Communities, Voluntary Sector and the Environment, said: “This is an important part of the borough’s approach to homelessness and rough sleeping. The partners involved in this scheme are already doing a lot of good work to support individuals who are rough sleeping or at risk of losing their home but this adds another dimension and allows us to make sure everyone’s help counts. “I am pleased that we now have a local scheme where you can
donate to a fund and be sure that your money is going to people who are homeless and really need it. I hope people get behind the scheme and donate.” All donations are combined in one central fund. The scheme will be administered by Changing Lives, a national, registered charity which provides specialist support for thousands of vulnerable people and their families. They are already working in Doncaster supporting people with complex needs to make meaningful and lasting improvements to their lives. The campaign is being advertised in the
town centre. Stephen Bell, CEO of Changing Lives added: “Changing Lives are really proud to be involved in this scheme to raise awareness and increase the support available for people in Doncaster. “Any funds and donations contributed will be distributed to the most vulnerable people in our community, helping them build safer and happier lives for themselves and their families. “We are grateful to everyone who has been involved - as always the generosity of local residents is wonderful and greatly appreciated by the people we
support.” Superintendent Neil Thomas, said: “Real Help Doncaster forms part of our continued drive and commitment to improving the town centre and protecting vulnerable people. “Through this, members of the public who want to give money to help someone can do so knowing that it’s going to offer immediate practical support but also long-term support in getting people off the streets and the help they may need. “We are also aiming to raise awareness of the support available so that people know the options and support services
available to them.” Jackie Bailey, chair of the Doncaster Town Centre Business Forum added: “After discussions with the council and partners, it is encouraging that our concerns are being addressed in a positive and supporting manner which will hopefully make donating easily accessible with the ultimate consequence of supporting the vulnerable people this campaign is targeting.” To donate text REAL22 £2 to 70070 ( you can change the amount and may be charged for the text message) or visit the Real Help Doncaster website .
Anyone wishing to donate must be 16 or over and have the bill payer’s permission. For every £1 donated, 95p goes directly to helping someone in need. A 5% charge goes to Just Giving for administering donations.
Working together with key members of the Doncaster Business Forum, South Yorkshire Police, Doncaster Council, St Leger Homes and other agencies, the Real Help campaign is one of a range of actions which forms part of the joint agency approach.

SHEFFIELD TO HOST UK INVICTUS GAMES TRIALS The UK will hold the first ever national games for British wounded, injured and sick veterans and personnel in Sheffield next July. The Games will incorporate the trials for the Invictus Games in The Hague in 2020 with the national event focusing on helping individuals to lead full and rewarding lives. The 2018 Invictus Games in Sydney saw countless examples of wounded, injured and sick serving personnel and veterans displaying the unconquered spirit that now typifies this movement. Building on the success of Sydney, and maintaining
the strong association with the Invictus Games, the UK partnership, consisting of Help for Heroes, the Ministry of Defence and The Royal British Legion, will be delivering a series of events and activities not least a multi-sport, multiday event in Sheffield in July 2019. The event in Sheffield will include Team UK’s Trials for the next Invictus Games in The Hague in May 2020, and provide opportunities for up to 500 individuals and their families to use the power of sport, teamwork and competition to significantly accelerate their recovery. Participants will be able
to take part in sports including athletics, wheelchair basketball, powerlifting, swimming and sitting volleyball. Head of UK Delegation, Air Vice-Marshal Garry Tunnicliffe said: “The Invictus Games 2018 once again showed the incredible rehabilitative power of sport to help our wounded and injured service personnel and veterans. These new games will ensure we maintain the momentum of recovery for the special community Invictus has created. Together with Help for Heroes and The Royal British Legion we can help those who have life
changing conditions, especially those who have sacrificed so much for our country, to lead full and rewarding lives. Antony Baines, Director of Operations at The Royal British Legion said: “The Legion is proud to be working with Help for Heroes and the Ministry of Defence on the 2019 Games in
Sheffield. The event will be an example of our life long commitment to today’s Serving personnel, veterans and their families. These Games are aimed at not only those competing in sport, but their partners, parents, children and friends who support their loved ones throughout injury or illness and play an integral part in their recovery.”

Weekly Wit With...
ALBERT SNODGRASS I was in off license the other day, when the shopkeeper asked me, “Do you need any help?” I said, “Yes, but I’ll get whiskey instead.” I said to my Dad the other day: “My LSD is missing.” “We have much bigger problems son. There are dragons in the kitchen.” He told me. I’ll never forget my dogs last words... “You took too much acid.” My laptop was making funny noises today, it sounded like it was singing... Probably because it’s a Dell. Mum just said “You treat this place like a hotel”. Which she may regret when I give a lower score on Tripadvisor for “rude staff”. I used to go out with a girl who was a medium, a clairvoyant and psychic. I binned her off because she was seeing other people all the time. “None of these girls have really got anything I’m looking for” “What’s that?” “Low standards” I just opened a kitchen cupboard and loads of Omega 3 capsules fell on my head. I’m alright though, just some super-fish-oil injuries. My Wife isn’t talking to me, she said I ruined her birthday. I’m not sure how... I didn’t even know it was her birthday.

UNEXPECTED RESIDENT AT ST BARNABAS! WHAT DOES THE BUDGET Driving through Sheffield you’d be forgiven for missing St Barnabas Church. It is hidden among the streets of Highfield, and a stranger’s eyes could easily miss the tall structure’s original arched windows, the impertinent tower that rises at the front and the cold stones that envelope all within. But this is no ordinary church, it is one that has been lovingly converted into a home for older people, with the furnishings and colours that belie the solemn history within its walls. The church was built in 1850 and was consecrated in 1876, meaning it was given the full blessings just like any other church. It was renovated and converted for Yorkshire Housing in 1985. For the past seven years independent living officer Beverley Pass has arrived at work every morning to begin her day in a job that she loves. And every day she’s seen a shadowy figure standing at the original, circular window that sits above the entrance at the side of the building. But each time, when she has climbed the stairs to see what, or who, it was, it has disappeared. Beverly has always had a connection with the ‘other side’ and throughout her life she has seen what she would class as ‘spirits’. But they have never frightened her. And she was never afraid of the morning spirit that lingered in the sunlight at the window at St Barnabas. Yet, she always wondered who it was and why it presented itself at the window each day. It was only a few weeks ago when Beverley was speaking to another ILO that she had a sudden idea of who the mystery figure could be. The other ILO had asked Beverley whether she knew of anyone who might have died in strange circumstances in and around the building. And like a streak of lightning, Beverley had an idea of who it might be. According to rumour (and it is difficult to confirm because it was such a long time ago) the architect who designed the conversion was believed to have been found dead before the completion of the building and there was no cause of death recorded – as far as we can tell. When Beverley realised this, she devised a loving plan for the ‘ghost with no name’. The next day, she went to the same spot where she usually spotted the figure and, gently, she spoke to it. “This is a beautiful building,” she said. “You did an excellent job on this and the residents here are very happy. Thank you.” The next morning Beverley arrived at work as

Wedding Guide 12
Getting married in the cold? Fortunately for the bride, current fashions are in your favour! Full sleeved frocks are bang on trend for 2018. Laced vintage style sleeves are a particularly popular style at the moment. Complement your wedding dress with a fabulous white fur wrap or a feathered bolero. Or, if you really feel the cold why not make a bold statement with a bright red winter coat, or a contrasting velvet jacket? When choosing your wedding shoes, opt for something enclosed; peep toes won’t cut it in the snow! Alternatively, if you’re not brave

enough to sport heels in frosty conditions, there are some beautiful wedding boots on the market which are both practical and elegant. Draping yourself in diamonds will ensure you sparkle and shine on your big day. Think delicate tiaras and cascading earrings. And don’t forget your bridesmaids. Fur muffs are a fantastic accessory. Not only will they keep your bridesmaids’ hands warm, they will also work really well with the winter wonderland theme. Whatever you choose, a winter wedding is a fantastic opportunity to experiment with luxurious fabrics such as white velvet and faux
fur. Sparkling jewels, silvers and gold really complement this theme too. When organising a winter wedding remember to pick your venue carefully; try not to choose a room with too many windows, as a drafty room will make for unhappy guests! Check that the venue will have adequate heating, as no-one can predict winter temperatures. An ideal winter wedding venue will feature roaring open fires and seasonal decorations. Celebrate the festive period with floral arrangements made up of reds and greens, or in-season flowers such as tulips or roses. Pillar candles, and twinkling lights are also lovely, and silver, gold, and white are perfect colour schemes to complement your winter wedding ideas. Greet your guests with a warming drink when they arrive, such as mulled wine or hot chocolate, and provide blankets in accordance with your colour theme; it’s a special touch that will be appreciated by your guests on a cold day!

BGT - YOUR CHANCE TO SHINE! Do you have a unique talent that may impress the Royal Family? Then this is your chance to display your abilities to the world! Sheffield Trades & Labour Club are delighted to announce that they will be hosting an evening of auditions in front of the producers of Britain’s Got
Talent, as they scour the country looking for acts for the 2019 series. Of course Sheffielders have a history of success in this competition, the most recent being young vocalist Kyle Tomlinson, who went on from winning the final of “Trades Got Talent” to feature in the live finals of

BGT in 2017. The venue has been chosen because of its history of holding an anuual competition which over the years has seen a number of acts go on to have a successful career in show business - whether in our local pubs and clubs or indeed on a much bigger stage - and of course the 2018 competition is already in full swing, with many heats already booked up in advance, and the semi-finals and final scheduled for early in 2019. The presence of the BGT talent scouting team will give anyone
the opportunity to showcase their unique talents, with the opportunity to appear before the judges in live auditions, and of course the ultimate goal of appearing on TV in the live finals! And of course, there is the small matter of the Winner’s Prize of £250,000, along with the chance to appear in front of the Royal Family at the Command Variety Performance! Auditions must be pre-booked by contacting Sue or Paul - their details appear in the advert below - and audtions will take place on Saturday November 17th.
Sheffield’s own BGT Finalist young vocalist Kyle Tomlinson So if you sing, dance, or simply have a very clever dog (always a favourite of Simon Cowell!) then why not have a
go? Full details can be found on the ITV website - www.itv.com/ talent where terms and conditions for entrants are listed.

MERCURY M T RS BUDGET BOOST FOR UK’S POTHOLE EPIDEMIC Local authorities are set to get a £420 million cash injection to help tackle the UK’s growing pothole epidemic. The funding boost, unveiled in the Autumn Budget, forms part of a £30 billion investment that Chancellor Phillip Hammond called the “biggestever single cash investment” in the UK’s transport network. The RAC welcomed the move as “good news” for motorists, but warned that a long-term strategy is needed to address the backlog of maintenance on the country’s local road network Experts at the Asphalt Industry Alliance have said that a one-time fix for the nation’s potholes would

TRAIN FOR A CAREER IN PHLEBOTOMY Most have experienced it. A doctor says you need some blood tests and a half a dozen stabs and prods later – sometimes more – the doctor has your blood sample and the patient has a sore arm that resembles a pincushion. Many healthcare institutions such as GP surgeries and hospitals now employ phlebotomists to perform the role of collecting blood from their in-patients and out-patients. Skilled phlebotomists – the healthcare professionals who take your blood – are the experts who have been gradually replacing nurses and doctors and who specialise in just collecting blood samples. Phlebotomy posts are usually very flexible and can vary from full and part-time hospital posts to part time work in surgeries and clinics. Geopace Training has built a nationwide reputation for teaching phlebotomy the right way and Geopace tutors travel from across country and even internationally to be train phlebotomy students. Each Geopace class lasts two full days and at the end of the course students will have attained an accredited certificate in phlebotomy. Students need no prior experience in healthcare and come from all walks of life and all ages. The Introduction to Phlebotomy Course provides a very thorough grounding in both theory and practical elements and prepares students up to the point of ‘live blood draws’. “It’s also a lot of fun” says Amy, admin manager at Geopace Training. “Many students email us after completing the course to say how enjoyable it was whilst others email us to let us know that they have been accepted for phlebotomy jobs”. Geopace instructors are some of the most elite in the industry and the training programme is constantly updated to keep up with new

Students attending the course are very hands-on, practicing on artificial arms which pump fake blood, with a choice of veins to perform and practise on. There is also a theory element to complete although there are no exams at the end. Students complete modules as they process through the course and it’s almost impossible for anyone to fail. ANGLER’S CORNER
with Clint Walker
I went pike fishing again this week, and blanked. I missed a run within the first half an hour, but otherwise, my indicators stubbornly refused to move all day. All was not lost though, as I met two anglers, one of whom was also fishless in his pursuit of predators, and his son, an exceptionally polite and well mannered fourteen year old. After a quick chat with dad, I spent a few minutes with the younger angler, and watched as he flicked a lure up the side of some pontoons in search of perch. We discussed the merits of dropshot and jig fishing, and I was pleased to see him pick off a solitary perch, indicating that it may be an area worth further investigation, so with that in mind, I said my farewells, and resolved to return later in the week… I have only ever fished with bait at this venue but wanted to find out if perch were worth targeting on lures. Determined to kill two birds with one stone, a few days later I was back at the water with the brand new Deeper Sonar ™ Christmas package to do some product photography for one of my sponsors, and put the kit to the test. I’ve been using Deeper for a while now, and the new Deeper Pro+ is a real upgrade on the previous incarnation, with connection issues resolved, more features, and a greater casting range achievable. I tend to use it solely to confirm or locate underwater features, rarely utilising the fish finder option, but I wanted to try both for the required images. Whilst deadbaiting the water for pike, I’ve suspected an area of weed amongst a relatively clear lake bed, and this was an ideal opportunity to prove that fish were indeed holed up in cover. The Deeper is so easy to use; simply install the app, drop the sonar into the water (water activated battery) and wait for it to connect. At this point, I should point out that turning off mobile data gives far better connectivity, and within a few seconds, an image will appear on your phone or tablet which clearly depicts the environment below. Once stabilised, the picture will scroll across the screen, so you can pick out features, fish, temperature, depth, and plenty of other variables; it certainly makes mapping a water a far less laborious evolution than constantly casting a marker float. You can also store the information in the form of a GPS accurate map, add your own notes, and even add a photograph of the exact spot where you stand! Brilliant! Camera tripod locked in place, remote control in hand, I set about getting the requisite amount of shots for social media and marketing, including
WRAGG FOOTBALL LEAGUE with A Royston
Hallam 1860 maintained their 100% record when they beat Mosborough Trinity by 5-0. In the Premier Division HSBC Bank are the new leaders after they defeated previous leaders Fossils FC by 6-1, Morris scoring four times, to bring his total to eleven so far this season, the other goals were from Cronin and Barnes, with a consolation for Fossill it was Glover. Caribbean Sports had to come from behind on three occasions to secure a point against Swinton Athletic, Pyecroft, Cookson and Thompson for Caribbean. Royston Oakwood are still looking for their first point after they lost by 3-0 against Handsworth Parramore, Cartledge 2 and Brameld with the winners goals. Wickersley Old Village beat Elsecar Dynamoes by 4-1 thanks to goals from Batchelor 2, Bugdol and Longdin. Crown & Cushion pcked up their second win of the season after they beat Plough Ragers by 3-2. Division 1 leaders Dinnington Town were beaten at home by Bullcroft S&P 4-1 Thomlinson grabbing a consolation for Town. Scawthorpe Club went looking for revenge after their opponents beat them 4-2 a couple of weeks ago, boy did they go for it with a 10-1 thrashing of Thorncliffe Fc, with Hendry 4, Collo 3 and John 3 on target. West End Terrers beat Joker Over 35s, by 6-2 with hat tricks for Harrat and Folleti. Division 2 Doncaster Over 35s were 3-0 winners against Hemsworth Miners Charlesworth, Jones and Harriman all scoring. High Green Vets lost at home to Clowne
screen shots of actual use, and after an hour of repositioning, deleting, retaking, and viewing of images, was happy I’d got enough to work with; it was time to map some spots. My Deeper is attached to 50lb braid and it was quickly hurled out as far as I could cast it. I’d be lying if I said I could it to the maximum stated range of one hundred metres, (although I have used it to map river swims as it trots downstream) but then I don’t tend to fish deadbaits at that range either, so knew I’d have my spots covered. I waited for the picture to clear, and slowly wound in, pausing every few seconds to let the Deeper hover over areas of interest. I picked out a known snag with ease (pesky thing) and marked it on the GPS, then continued to retrieve over the potential weed patch. It was vegetation, but I was surprised just how far off the lake bed it rose. What I thought was perhaps a thin sheen of silkweed turned out to be substantial growth and a good depth of silt beneath. My baits had perhaps been landing in the silt which spread some distance from the focus of the weed, but at least I could confirm that the obstruction was there; noted for future sessions! I did have the fish finder turned on too and wasn’t surprised to find a good number of fish within cover. Vast areas of the reservoir were completely devoid of fish, a change in the weather had certainly stirred them up and at the base of the shelf, where I’ve caught a good number of pike, there were none! The majority were either in the weed or patrolling in mid-water near a shoal of bait fish, identified as a scatter pattern which was studded with ‘proper’ fish reflections. I spent another hour mapping the whole bank, finding depths to almost thirty feet, the remains of an old dam, another snag, and more fish, before packing away and having a quick fling with the dropshot rod under the floating pontoons. It proved to be slow going, with only a handful of perch caught, but the chill wind put paid to any further fishing, it was just too cold! I moved off to a tiny local river, determined to bank something worthy of a photograph. I’d changed the dropshot set up for a 3g jighead, loaded it with a pink Spro lure, and slid into the cramped swim beneath the trees. I’d seen a fish rise whilst approaching, so was confident of a hit on the lure. The river contains chub, trout, pike and perch, so it’s a real ‘lucky dip’ which is part of the reason I enjoy it so much. I prepared my first cast, carefully checking that my braid wasn’t looped around the end of the rod, my bale arm was open, that the backcast was clear of obstructions, and that the spot I wanted to cast to was accessible. All clear, I fired the lure out and it went straight into a tree which had a single branch hanging down! With 6lb braid and 5lb fluorocarbon, snatching it back in isn’t an option, so by the time I’d gently pulled the Wanderers 4-3, Watkinson, Bradshaw, O’Conner and Smith for the victors and Bvungidzire, Soot and Wilson for High Green. Hollingwood were 6-3 winners against Jubilee Sports, Weatherall, Parsons, Lewin Moore, Dove and Beach all finding the net. East Herringthorpe were another side who scored six times they travelled to play Woodhouse West End, and came away winners by 6-0 Bagley 2, Scott, Machin, Johnson and Lewis all scoring. 45s Division 1 Elsecar Dynamoes were 2-1 winners against Wickersley Old Village, good old Galvin grabbing a brace for the winners, and Connely (pen) for the Village. HSBC Bank were 6-2 winners against Ring O Bells, Brookes 2, Markham, Haslam, Husband and Hagh. Sheffield Aurora got their first points of the season when they defeated third placed Phoenix FC by 2-0, Hawley and Hemmingway were their heroes. 45s Division 2 Dronfield Town travelled to play top of the table Denaby United and came away with a well deserved victory by 3-2, Markeleu 2 and an own goal, Whittaker and Buckley for Denaby. Norfolk Arms were delighted with their 6-4 win agaist South Kirkby Colliery, Bell 3, Bonnington Wasden and Siddall. Plough Vets and Princess Royal shared the points with a 2-2 draw, Grainger with a brace for Plough and Griffin two for Royal. Next week its the League Cup 1st Round matches and some preliminary matches in the Topham Cup.

branch towards me, I’d made far too much noise to have any chance of a fish from the tiny swim, so scrabbled back up the bank to try the next glide. A classic small river swim, with fast water running into a widening, deep pool, it’s one of two spots here that are ‘guaranteed’. I know every nook and cranny and can tell you at any time of the year where fish are to be found, I’m that confident! The pink shad was twitched across the bottom, repeated several times, but without success. A change to a similar pattern lure in a different colour bought an instant bite, a handsome perch of around half a pound the culprit, and this continued with a number of fish banked. As I watched the rod tip, I noted a splash against the far bank, just a few yards distant, and watched a long dark shape slip by beneath the water. The clear water gave me a good view of the intruder, and I quickly realised that it was a mink, which I watched surface and swim to its home within the roots of a tree. We watched each other for a while, the mink’s pale snout clearly visible in the dark confines beneath the tree, and I have to admit that I was enthralled to see an apex predator up close. I know they are killers, but what an impressive animal, and a real treat to witness! I didn’t want to risk conflict, hooking a fish to be snatched and fought over, so moved upstream to a steady, shallow glide. I could see the river bed clearly, patched with coloured autumn leaves and flicked the lure under the roots of a tree on the near side. I watched it skip across the debris, and then it disappeared. I couldn’t spot it, and then all went solid; snagged! A small amount of pressure was applied to free the hook and suddenly a huge
bow wave erupted as a pike leapt clear of the water in a shower of spray! I hadn’t seen it, perfectly camouflaged as it shot out and whacked the lure, and although it was only a jack of about 4lb, it gave a superb account on ultralight tackle as it sped around the confines of the river, desperately trying to dislodge the hook. Safely netted, it was quickly returned sulkily to the river, and that ended my session. An hour on the river had resulted in a number of handsome perch, a close up encounter with a mink, and a finely conditioned pike to finish; it doesn’t get better than that does it? WE DESERVED A POINT WARNE
Rotherham United boss Paul Warne said his side were more than worthy of a point, and it could have been more after Michael Smith’s second-half strike earned a share of the spils at Preston. The Millers were behind just before the interval when Tom Barkhuizen headed in a corner at the near post, but Warne’s side battled back in the second-half to earn a point after Smith struck from Ryan Williams’ right-wing cross. Warne conceded to the waiting press corps that he was unhappy with some aspects of the firsthalf, but felt his side’s second-half showing more than warranted a share of the points, with the Millers looking most likely to win according to the Millers boss. “I think the lads did enough to get a draw,” said Warne. “Smithy had a great chance first-half which smacked the post, their ‘keeper made a great save from Vass (Kyle Vassell). “We got a deserved goal, and we were more than deserving of a point. I was disappointed with the first-half, I thought that we took too many chances in the middle of the pitch which I told them not to. There were too many sideways passes for my liking. They out-numbered us there and I don’t think we were forceful enough and quick enough in the first-half. “I told them at half-time and I asked them to play in a different way in the second-half. They did that and I thought if nothing else this
MCCANN TARGETS BETTER STARTS Grant McCann felt his side were made to pay for a below-par first-half performance in the defeat to Coventry City. Joe Wright’s goal was not enough as Rovers went down 2-1 at the Ricoh Arena, and McCann believes they needed to start better. He said: “The result hurts, our first-half performance wasn’t good enough. After halftime we were very good and had a lot of the

group have got unbelievable character. I don’t know when the last time was when we came back from behind in a Championship game, especially away from home, so I am really pleased wih what they are trying to do. “I thought that after we rode the initial storm, we were really in the game. Our record on defending set-pieces has been pretty good this year, but I was disappointed we lost the goal when we did because I thought that we were in a really good spell. We were on the front foot, so that was disappointing. “Like I said, the second-half we were really good and I thought that we were the team that was going to win it.”

He added: “We changed the system and I think it was effective, we went to a diamond and got our full-backs a lot higher up the pitch. “They dropped deeper so we brought Paul Taylor on to try and create things, and I thought he played well. He’s very close to the starting line-up, we need consistency in the team and he’s put himself in my thoughts with a good performance.” Rovers return to the Keepmoat Stadium to take on AFC Wimbledon on Saturday November 17, with tickets available from tickets. clubdoncaster.co.uk

Hamshaw was joined by his family for the fundraiser which is raising money for the Rotherham Hospice, who helped care for Luke during his battle with a brain tumour and is a charity that many people in the area have had contact with during their lives. “I was honoured to take part in raising money for such a worthy cause. I think the turnout was more than everyone had anticipated and there was nearly 100 people there, which was great to see. “It’s a fantastic charity to support and some of the stories I heard on the way around makes you realise how lucky we are to have such a fantastic care facility here in Rotherham.” You can donate to the cause at www.justgiving.com/remember/519497/ Luke -Billups

WRIGHT: POSITIVES TO TAKE INTO CHARLTON GAME Joe Wright says Rovers will take the positives from their second half display at Coventry City into next weekend’s trip to Charlton Athletic. The Sky Blues took a two-goal lead into the break at the Ricoh Arena and survived all the pressure Rovers put on them in the second period, managing to hold on for victory with only Wright’s strike finding the back of the net. “We’re all gutted after that, we weren’t ourselves in that first half - but after the break we came out more like how we have been, but we left ourselves too much to do unfortunately,” said the defender. “It’s hard to put your finger on what went wrong in the first half, we pressed like we
usually do and picked up second balls, but it’s one of those things where we will look back at the video and analyse the game and move on quickly.” Wright’s second goal of the season saw Rovers put pressure on to their hosts with 20 minutes left to play, with John Marquis having a shot blocked on the line with virtually the last kick of the game, and Wright says they will be taking the game to Charlton at The Valley on Saturday . “The gaffer said to us at the break to go out in the second half to win the game, that put a lot of belief in the lads, we came out and performed a lot more like we had done in the past, we pressed more as a team, and the tempo was a lot faster,” he added. “I’m happy to get a goal obviously, but at the end of the day when you don’t get anything from the game it means very little. We thought we could still get something out of it right until the very end, but it just wasn’t to be for us. “We have to take the positives out of our second half performance and take that into next week, we have to start the game how we started the second half, we have to be on the front foot and really take the game to Charlton next weekend.”

WILDER PLEASED TO OVERCOME LATICS The Blades boss was happy with the win, but thought the performance could have been better against Wigan. Chris Wilder was happy with to beat Wigan Athletic, despite admitting his side weren’t at their best. Billy Sharp’s hattrick following Chey Dunkley’s own-goal saw United overcome the Latics to regain top spot in the Sky Bet Championship. But Wilder was typically honest speaking in the aftermath of the success. He remarked: “It’s strange game is football, isn’t it? We were outstanding on Tuesday and not too
bad at Derby, yet we only picked up one point from those two games. “We win this one 4-2 without playing anywhere near the high standards the players have set previously, so the scoreline was flattering to us really. “We’ve relied on the finishing of Billy (Sharp) and a few excellent passes, Ollie Norwood to Leon (Clarke) and then Leon to Billy for the third. “Then for the fourth Ollie was again involved and Enda (Stevens) claimed the assist for Billy’s hat-trick.” Wilder added: “We’ve set high standards at this football club,
but we were a bit sloppy, we weren’t tight enough and we weren’t near our free-flowing best, but we’re in the game to win matches. “We’re getting scrutinised in everything we do, from back to front, because that’s the level we’re at. “Sometimes the opposition come and just give it a real go like Wigan did, Windass and Powell caused us problems. “The two changes perhaps affected our rhythm too, but Stearman has come in and done well and McGoldrick’s played in a different role, the most important thing is we’ve dug in and won the game.”
SKIPPER DELIGHTED WITH TREBLE Billy Sharp was understandably delighted to net his first hat-trick since August 2008 at the weekend.
But it was Saturday’s three points over Wigan Athletic that meant more to the Blades skipper. He remarked: “The main thing was the three points after not getting them in midweek, we weren’t happy with the performance, but delighted with the win. “On Monday morning, that’s what we will look at, back at the top despite not being at our best and the Gaffer will know that too. “We’ve set the

standards high, we weren’t quite at it in spells, but we did enough to win the game. Sharp added: “I’m delighted, it’s the first one since I was 20 against QPR. “There was some great play from the lads and I was just in the right place at the right time, credit to them. “We were playing OK when they scored, so to get back in front before half-time was important and we lifted it second-half.”

A GAME OF TWO HALVES Owls manager Jos Luhukay said the Owls’ 3-1 defeat to Birmingham could have been very different if Wednesday had
taken their first half chances. The Dutchman’s side were on top for the majority of the opening 45 and took the lead through
Steven Fletcher but failed to take advantage of their dominance despite creating some good chances. Connor Mahoney
levelled for the Blues against the run of play, and second half finishes from Lukas Jutkiewicz and Che Adams sealed three points for Garry Monk’s men. Luhukay said: “Today was a game of two halves. “In the first half we were on top and controlled the game, but we did not score our chances. “If we had scored the second goal then Birmingham may have to had to take more risks and been
more open as a result. “In the second half Birmingham took their chances, and in the end, they deserved to win. “It is disappointing when you take the lead away from home but fail to score the second and third goals.” Wednesday face Norwich at Hillsborough next Saturday and Luhukay said his side must perform better against the Canaries. He added: “It is a very quiet changing
room right now and we must look to ourselves, the good things we did today and the not so good things, we must find a way to return to a positive direction. “The important thing is that we stay together as one. We have to stand by each other and be strong and show the character that we have. “We have had a bad week for sure with three bad results but earlier in the season we had three good results in one week. “We know we are capable of doing well so we have to show it.”
DESIRE TO PUT THINGS RIGHT
The Owls went down 3-1 at St Andrew’s to clock their third successive defeat and Lees has challenged the team to bounce back in time for Saturday’s home clash with Norwich. He said: “I can’t believe the way this week has gone, it’s mad in the
Championship. “Only last week we were in the top six. “We just have to come back. It’s difficult to find the words with it being so raw, we just have to sort it out. “The only way to put this right is hard work and desire. We stick together and try to do the right things.”
Owls skipper Tom Lees has reflected on what he has tagged as a ‘mad week in the Championship’ following Saturday’s defeat at Birmingham. The Premier League, The FA, EFL and the PFA

are joining forces under the banner of ‘Football Remembers’ to mark the Armistice Centenary and Remembrance weekend. And the Steel City will unite prior to the forthcoming derby fixture at Bramall Lane too. The captain of both teams will lay a wreath at both ends of the field, whilst a wreath will be laid in the centre circle by a member of the Army, Royal Navy, Marines and Air Force prior to kick-off. The Last Post will be played by bugler Glyn Beyington and this will be followed by a period of silence On 11 November 1918, the Armistice was signed, signalling the end of World War One. One century on, England’s four football bodies will be part of the nationwide commemorations, with support from Premier League clubs, EFL clubs and the English national teams paying tribute through a variety of activities. Remembrance Sunday coincides with the Armistice Centenary, and a range of Football Remembers activity will take place over the weekends leading up to 11 November to mark the efforts of servicemen and women, past and present. The Owls’ home encounter with Norwich on Saturday represents our designated remembrance fixture, with guests from the British Legion welcomed to Hillsborough. A minute’s silence will precede the game to mark both remembrance weekend and the terrible events at Leicester City last Saturday.
