DONCASTER’S ROUTE ANNOUNCED FOR NEXT YEAR’S TOUR DE YORKSHIRE The route of the world famous Tour de Yorkshire has now been announced with the exciting news that Doncaster will host the start of the Stage One Men’s race on Thursday 2 May 2019. The event organisers, Welcome to Yorkshire, revealed that the start of the race will begin in what will be the newly refurbished market square which will showcase the historic market to the world.
The cyclists will then ride out past the Mansion House, Hallgate, Christ Church and then over St George’s Bridge on to the A19. The route will then go through: • Bentley • Toll Bar • Owston • Askern • Campsall • Norton Mayor of Doncaster, Ros Jones, said: “I am delighted that we are hosting the start of this most prestigious race.
This is the third time that we have welcomed the Tour de Yorkshire to our borough and now even more of our communities will experience the sheer exhilaration and excitement of this event. “The market square will provide the perfect backdrop for the start. Our award winning market is one of the oldest in the country and a real jewel in our crown. We have invested over £6 million in to the area as I have been
determined to preserve and grow the market for our future generations. Now millions of race viewers will be able to see the square in its full glory.” Over 100,000 eventgoers in total turned out across the borough when Doncaster hosted this event for one day in 2016 and then for two days earlier this year. Following this huge success, cycling has continued to grow in popularity and an ever increasing number
of people from all ages are joining local clubs across Doncaster to experience the joy of cycling. “I have no doubt that next year’s race will inspire many more to take up this sport,” Mayor Ros Jones added. The race will leave Doncaster at Norton and then travel through much of East Yorkshire and finish in Selby, followed by three more days racing across Yorkshire.

100,000 TREES TO BE PLANTED AS PART OF TREES AND WOODLANDS STRATEGY With more than 4.5 million trees, 180 woodlands, hundreds of green spaces and 13 Green Flag Awards Sheffield’s green credentials stand as tall as its poplar oaks. Now Sheffield City Council has revealed a new 15year strategy that will see 100,000 trees planted for generations to come. Sheffield is one of the greenest and most wooded cities in Europe and the greenest city in the UK. The city is proud of its rich variety of urban parks, woodland,
countryside and other green spaces which are extremely popular destinations, attracting more than 25 million visits each year. Sheffield’s reputation as an Outdoor City is rooted in its number of parks and proximity to the countryside and the city, using the internationally recognised iTrees method, can lay claim to having one of the highest urban tree canopy coverages in the UK. Using iTrees data, the estimated 21.6% canopy cover of urban areas is
more than the whole of the Greater London area which has only 14% urban canopy. The data also states that Sheffield has an estimated seven trees for every resident with Greater London and Edinburgh having only 1 tree per person. At a time when local authorities are experiencing a period of great austerity, Sheffield City Council recognises its responsibility to maintain and invest in the city’s treasured trees and woodlands. Following consultation
with Sheffield residents in 2016, the council has worked with a number of partners to develop a 15 year strategy that sets out how it will accomplish its ambitious vision to provide outstanding, resilient and sustainably managed trees and woodlands which are rich, diverse, healthy, attractive, and of maximum benefit to the public and wildlife. With 53 actions, under four overarching themes, the strategy focuses on People, Places, Environment and
Sustainability, and Quality Standards and Resources. The strategy covers the entire city, from the inner city to the parts of the Peak District National Park that falls within the Sheffield boundary and looks after trees that are in the city’s woodlands, parks, cemeteries ,housing estates and schools. A separate plan will be developed over the next year for the 36,000 street trees in the city, in partnership with relevant groups. The council will share details of how people can get involved in activities across their communities. 1296 12/12/2018 COMMUNITY LUNCH CLUB RE-OPENS ITS DOORS After months of hard work and planning by Hackenthorpe Community Centre’s Voluntary Manager, Sue Smith, their Lunch Club has opened its doors for its first lunch. More than 30 older people enjoyed a turkey lunch together at the centre which was decorated for the festive season. The day was the result of joint working led by Sue involving Sheffield City Council’s property services, locality management team and voluntary sector liaison team, local councillors and Voluntary Action Sheffield. Local resident Nicola Hodson, will now be managing the club on a twice weekly basis with support from the Community Payback team running the kitchen.
There has been a lunch club at the community centre for more than 10 years but earlier this year the club had to close when there was nobody available to run it. Now it’s back and open for business again and its members are delighted. Member Francis Wright said: “It’s not so much the food, it’s the company you come for.” The sentiment was echoed by another member saying , “It’s good to be back!” Sheffield City Council’s Lunch Club Fund currently provides small grants to 52 lunch clubs across the city, supporting them to help reduce loneliness and isolation experienced by older people. The fund also provides a grant to Voluntary Action Sheffield (VAS) for a Lunch Club Development Worker and service.
FIRE SERVICE OPENS DOORS FOR HOMELESS
DON’T FORGET DO YOU KNOW YOUR STATE YOUR REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS! PENSION AGE?
The fire service is opening its doors to rough sleepers on the coldest nights in Sheffield for a second winter. Up to eight people are able to stay overnight at South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue’s headquarters, on Eyre Street in Sheffield, with British Red Cross volunteers on hand to welcome them. Framework’s street outreach team and the council’s rough sleeper service will engage with people the next morning to talk about their needs and the longer-term support available. During the winter Sheffield City Council activates its Severe Weather Emergency Protocol, known locally as Weather Watch, in response to the potential risk to life when the weather is very cold. This offers somewhere safe and warm overnight for anyone at risk of rough sleeping. Councillor Jim, Steinke, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety, said: “The fire station gives us extra places for people at risk of sleeping rough on the coldest nights, and is somewhere safe and warm. Homelessness is a growing problem. Through this partnership work we’re able to offer more help to more people, which is what we want as a city.” South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Area Manager, Tony Carlin, said: “Helping people in need and saving lives is core to our mission as a fire service, so it makes perfect sense for us to provide emergency accommodation during particularly severe weather periods. This initiative provides comfort, warmth and shelter for rough sleepers and the homeless and is a clear example of public agencies working together to help some of the most vulnerable people in our area.” Anyone who is homeless, or at risk of losing their accommodation, can call Sheffield City Council on 0114 273 6306 during office hours, or 0800 7311 689 outside office hours. If you’re worried about someone sleeping rough please call Framework on 0800 066 5358 or Text SOTS to 80800 followed by your message, or visit www.streetlink.org. uk.
Yorkshire’s NHS 111 service is reminding people to order their repeat prescriptions in time for the Christmas break. Each Christmas sees hundreds of patients calling NHS 111 because they have run out of their regular medication, leading to unnecessary worry for themselves and increasing pressure on busy urgent care services. Dr Eithne Cummins, Clinical Director for Integrated Urgent Care at Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, which runs the NHS 111 service in Yorkshire and the Humber, Bassetlaw, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire, urged people to make sure they have sufficient stocks so they do not run out over the festive holiday. He said: “The NHS 111 service will be very busy over the Christmas and New Year period. Many people need repeat medication to manage longterm conditions and most remember to order and collect their prescriptions before Christmas which is helpful and appreciated. However, in the busy buildup to the holidays, it’s easy to forget and this can lead to problems once GP practices close for the holidays. So if you think you might need more medication over Christmas and the New Year, save yourself the worry and re-order your prescription while there is still plenty of time for it to be processed and dispensed. Not only will you be doing yourself a favour, you’ll also be helping the NHS by reducing pressure on busy urgent care services over the Christmas period.” Check out health advice on treating common winter illnesses at NHS Choices www.nhs.uk/Livewell/winterhealth/Pages/ Winterhealthrisks.aspx
Councillor Jim Steinke, said: “Lunch clubs play an important role in our local communities and for some people, lunch clubs are their only opportunity to go out, make new friends and learn about what’s going on in their community.” Volunteers are always needed at lunch clubs to perform a range of essential roles from cooking to running activities and escorting members on transport. People who would like to volunteer at the lunch club should contact VAS Sheffield on 0114 253 6650. Those interested in joining a lunch club should contact VAS lunch club referral service 0114 253 6674. More information is at www.sheffield.gov.uk/lunchclubs
After Thursday 6th December, you’ll no longer receive your State Pension on your 65th birthday. Have you checked when you will? The State Pension age has changed a lot over the past few years. Because of this, 1 in 4 people aged between 50 and 64 don’t know when they can claim their State Pension, according to new YouGov research commissioned by AgeUK. Nearly a fifth of the people surveyed found their State Pension age was higher than they expected, and 3 in 10 people had never checked (or couldn’t remember checking) their State Pension age. If you don’t know when you can claim your State Pension, you can check at www. gov.uk/state-pension-age Caroline Abrahams, Charity Director at Age UK, says: “Clearly there is still much confusion about the age at which people can expect to receive their State Pension and our worry is that many who have few resources to fall back on are in for a nasty shock. At Age UK we think the most pressing and immediate concern is the hundreds of thousands of people in their 50s and 60s who are unable to carry on working today, and who are really struggling financially as a result. We are thinking, for example, of lifelong manual workers crippled by arthritis and carers who have given up work to look after an ailing partner or parent, and who face the prospect of being totally broke as they wait to claim their State Pension. The government needs to do much more to help people in this position now. More support should be given to those who are badly affected by increases in State Pension age, like men and women earning low wages who are completely or mainly reliant on the State Pension to get by in retirement. We urge the government to allow early access to the State Pension for those who effectively have had no choice but to stop working before they reach their State Pension age.”

The run-up to Christmas will see a change of emphasis with both the Sun and Saturn moving to the top of your ‘scope. This is the area to do with responsibilities and obligations. The next two and a half years can be a time when yours increase, but see this as a very positive development. Call for more...
A more traditional week could appeal to you. Then again, if you do venture into your community Libra, taking part in a carol service or looking out for other family members can also suit. Mind, there may be some times when you relish peace and tranquillity. Call for more news and advice...
Knowledge becomes a crucial factor in your situation. Whatever your circumstances, you may become more desirous of adding to yours. Although the period before Christmas can be a busy time, you can still find yourself being more fascinated than ever by different cultures, people or even gifts. Call for more...
This week’s shifting of astrological emphasis, can see you turn your mind to more communicational aspects of your interactions with others. Ties with people who live close by, siblings or community activities, can all take on a greater role and meaning in your situation. Call for more advice...
Whatever people say to you, it’s what they mean that’s going to matter most. Even if you’ve enjoyed the run-up to this week, you may find yourself more orientated towards the people who are most meaningful in your world. If you’re a business person, hard work can bring rewards. Call for more...
You’ll be pleased to know that Mercury will start to finally go forwards later this week. If things have felt a bit stop-go, it wouldn’t be a surprise, but now you have an opportunity to move more into the moment. In fact, all the festive pleasures can now start to consume you. Call for more advice...
The last three or four weeks has given you a fine opportunity to grapple with the nitty-gritty of the festive arrangements. As you’re often one of the most organised of all signs, the chances are all your plans are laid and well ordered. Now you can turn your attention to interpersonal matters. Call for more...
With the Sun arriving back into your sign for the first time in eleven months, this is going to spark a revival in your energy, and also see you shift from a more reflective and sentimental phase of the year, into one which is going to see you at the heart of all activities. Call for more news and advice...
With the Sun and Saturn now entering a much more practical part of your situation, your natural organisational skills are set to really flourish. And whether it’s organising Christmas dinner for next week, or last-minute presents, little is likely to miss your searching gaze. Call for more advice...
One of your great gifts is that you are so future orientated. But you also have a tremendous appreciation for past tradition, values and history, and this blend of energies is what gives you a degree of your uniqueness. Value both sides of this in yourself from now Aquarius. Call for more astral advice...
There’s been a lot to think about recently Virgo. Not least, some deeply personal matters may have been on your mind. Now however, as the Sun and Saturn move into the most joyous of areas, Christmas and all its trimmings can take on a much more delightful appeal. Call for more news...
Although it’s late in the year, your ambitions are still very much to the fore. The chances are you’ve been working tremendously hard over the last few years, and something that’s really important to you can take on a more solid and viable basis in your situation Pisces. Call for more news and advice...

TOTALLY TINA! THE ULTIMATE TINA TURNER TRIBUTE SHOW It’s been the UK’s official number one Tina Turner tribute for the past five years (as voted by the Agents Association of Great Britain), with a Lifetime Achievement Award under its belt and a hectic, fast-growing gig schedule right across the UK and into Europe to boot. The cast of ‘Totally Tina’ it seems, is definitely ‘better than all the rest’. Now seven years in the making, the longest running tribute to the Queen of Rock and Roll is in demand, yet with the same passion, drive and attention to detail that’s earned Liverpool-born Justine Riddoch and her band the top spot since 2013, the talents behind this much-loved Show are not resting on their laurels. Instead, they are already fine-tuning what is a unique celebration of Tina’s live concert career with a whole
host of exciting set changes and flamboyant costumes, pulsating new dance routines and the characteristic custom twists which make it a hit with an army of fans nationwide. Most importantly, and for the first time ever, the band has been asking its audiences what they’d like to hear played, so songs like I Can’t Stand The Rain, Typical Male, Undercover Agent for the Blues, I Don’t Wanna Lose You, Help and Legs – all chosen by the fans – will be added to classic favourites like Nutbush City Limits and Simply The Best. Said lead vocalist, Justine: “The support of our many fans across the country is humbling; they’re truly amazing and incredibly loyal. Every year, we make ourselves a promise to pull out all the stops, so that the Show is the very best it can be and the audience goes home buzzing! Building up a following takes time, and a lot of hard work, and we believe in looking after our fans. What they want to hear is what’s important, which is why we’ve
asked them this year. We had a fantastic response, and we’re hoping they’ll love what we’ve done.” Justine is no stranger to the stage, having been treading the boards on the north-west circuit for more than 26 years. Her career changed direction in 2002 when she won ITV’s ‘Stars In Their Eyes’ as Anastacia, and for the next six years, her tribute show, ‘Justine is Anastacia’ performed all over the world. When her muse stopped releasing albums, Justine created ‘Totally Tina’ and the rest, as they say, is history. It enjoys rave reviews from audiences and
critics alike, with plenty of dancing in the aisles and standing ovations everywhere it goes. Totally Tina will be playing in Sheffield at the FlyDSA Arena in the intimate theatre style setting of the Steel Hall on Friday 4th October 2019. The very same venue that Tina Turner performed her final ever concert at on the 5th May 2009! Tickets are on sale now online at www. flydsaarena.co.uk or by phone on 0114 256 56 56, priced £29.68 including booking fee.

WOMEN IN FESTIVALS’ AWARD CATEGORY LAUNCHES In honour of the late Tramlines Festival Director, Sarah Nulty, a new award category has been launched by the UK Festival Awards to celebrate the work and achievements of women working in the festival industry. An award that celebrates the talents and achievements of women working in the festival industry was unveiled last night at the 15th annual UK Festival Awards held at the Troxy in East London. The new category, titled the ‘Sarah Nulty Women In Festivals Award’, has been established in memory of the former Tramlines Festival Director who passed away at the age of 36 just weeks before the festival’s 10th anniversary in Sheffield. Sarah was also posthumously presented with the prestigious Outstanding Contribution to Festivals Award. The Sarah Nulty Women In Festivals Award, which will be given
out for the first time at the 2019 ceremony, will recognise the work and achievements of the many outstanding women working in the male-dominated festival industry. Its aim is to also inspire other females wishing to pursue a career in the music and events industry, something Sarah Nulty championed during her time not only at Tramlines, but throughout her career overall. Sarah, who was director at Tramlines Festival from 2013 – 2018, was also instrumental in the launch of the festival in 2009, coordinating venues and handling bookings and later working in the commercial department. Tenacious, innovative and thoroughly unbreakable, Sarah led Tramlines through its toughest and most pivotal times. From the introduction of a ticketed model after huge cuts in local funding, to completely revamping the festival’s
multi-venue format to meet fans’ demands for bigger lineups. Sarah’s parting gift to Tramlines was to revamp it into a single, greenfield site for its 10th anniversary at the 30,000 capacity Hillsborough Park with headliners including Stereophonics, Noel Gallagher’s High Fying Birds and Craig David. Tramlines Operations Director, Timm Cleasby, commented: “Sarah was a real advocate for getting young women into the industry. We
were planning to find ways that we could help encourage more young women into music industry roles and I believe that this award will help cement the idea to young women that they can succeed in the festival industry – Sarah being a role model for these women is fantastic. “It means so much to us that Sarah has been recognised again for her contribution to festivals. We’re proud of what we have achieved as a team under her leadership. The announcement of the Sarah Nulty Women in Festivals Award is just incredible; it’ll keep her legacy alive for years to come.”

The Olympic legacy project won Landscape Architecture of the Year category at the 2018 AJ Architecture Awards. The Awards, held on 4 November at The Roundhouse Camden London, recognise excellence in UK architecture across a range of categories, from school project of the year to housing project of the year. Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park fended off competition from projects including Sky TV’s Campus, the City of Glasgow College’s Landscape and Public Realm and the Canal Corridor at Kings Cross. Other high-profile winners on the night included the BBC Television Centre and Bloomberg’s European Headquarters in London. The judges described the winning project as an imaginative piece of landscape-first regeneration. They said: “The scheme features clever connectivity throughout the site which has already brought people into the area and delivered a highly sustainable slot-in infrastructure ready for the next wave of new development.” The landscape and infrastructure works at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park were undertaken by Henry Boot Construction, with a project team including Turner and Townsend, Arup, Ares Landscape Architects and Amey. The works were funded through Sheffield City Region Infrastructure Fund and procured by Sheffield City Council Ben Handley, from Ares Landscape Architects, commented: “Just to be shortlisted for this award was great recognition of the contribution that Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park is making to the city and to

delivering the legacy promised by the 2012 London Olympics. “However to win is a fantastic boost to all concerned, putting the project well and truly on the map. “Realising a project of this scale and ambition has required collaboration from the start. The original masterplan for the park was established by Bond Bryan Architects working with Legacy Park Ltd. Creating a place that promotes health and wellbeing was a key requirement of the masterplan. “We saw an opportunity with the Landscape Architecture to meet this requirement by making a new park for the city, a park which reflects some of the most recognisable and well-loved characteristics of Sheffield’s landscape – hills, woods and water. We’ve worked with the River Stewardship Company and Friends of the Blue Loop to open up the Park to the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal. “Access to high quality green space for the local community is a fundamental part of what has been achieved, along with ensuring the continuation of elite sport such as Sheffield Eagles RLFC and all the activities at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield.” Former Minister for Sport and Project Lead for Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, Richard Caborn, said: “These awards recognise projects that are leading the way in architectural design, so we couldn’t be prouder to win. “At Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, we’ve brought a number of organisations together to create a worldclass space for people to work, learn and improve their health and wellbeing. “The Lower Don Valley area was ripe for regeneration and Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park is driving economic and social renaissance, offering improved education, development of new skills, additional job opportunities from the research centres, sports facilities and space for companies to grow. “In addition to all this, we’ve prioritised green spaces, access to waterways, run routes, cycle paths and a synthetic cricket pitch to further regenerate this area of the city.” Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park is a London 2012 Olympic Legacy Project for health and wellbeing research and learning. The four legacy themes from London 2012 are sport, local community, environment and economic regeneration. Each of these themes are being delivered on Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park. it’s YOU that is feeding it! The frontrunner for the Fishing Republic carcass is, you’ve guessed it, Angling Direct, who seek to take over the premises, business, and stock from their competitor in a deal which will see them become perhaps THE biggest retailer, with the biggest spending power, and the biggest budget. What then? Who will suffer for it? We all will, that’s who. be that margins are being driven down by sheer buying power of the few remaining retailers, and the trade is starting to feel the squeeze too? Everyone needs to make a buck to live, I get that, and it could be argued that some of the blame is down to the suppliers too who charge what is seen as ‘carp tax’ on green products, but where will it end? The market is shrinking as less people go fishing, and that market share is being crushed again by consumers seeking a cheaper deal, but are we cutting our own throats? I think we are, and unless the trade/suppliers/manufacturers get together with anglers and sort it out we’ll all suffer eventually… It’s your choice; a few quid today may well cost a lot more in the long run…

WARNE PLEASED WITH ‘IMPRESSIVE’ DERBY DAY SHOWING
MILLERS boss Paul Warne was left scratching his head after his side had to settle for a point at local rivals Sheffield Wednesday, despite a dominant display at Hillsborough. Despite having the lions’ share of possession in the first-half, Warne’s side were given a mountain to climb at the interval when Lucas Joao slotted home, against the run of play. However, the Millers were not to be outdone and they turned the tide of the encounter in ten second half minutes when Michael Smith levelled matters following a fine run and shot before Richie Towell
sent the travelling hordes into ecstasy when his longrange effort squirmed through the grasp of home ‘keeper Cameron Dawson to deservedly put them ahead. However, Wednesday fought back to deny the Millers their first Championship away victory of the season when Joao popped up with a well-taken header. With Will Vaulks and Towell squandering late opportunities to give the Millers a deserved victory, Warne, speaking to the assembled press afterwards, believed his side were not duly rewarded for the manner of their performance in S6. “I think our performance over the game was pretty impressive,” Warne enthused. “We got done with a long ball first-half just before the break which was disappointing but we built them up at half-time and said we are right in this game, have a right go and send our fans home happy. “I thought our second half performance was really good. I thought over the course of the game we edged it and we deserved the win. “I’m really proud that we came and got a point on our travels. As always, we were a little bit unlucky not to the get the win. Our play on the whole was really good and we were the team, who were being really aggressive. We set up to win the game but to come away without a defeat, I’m really pleased. “There were some really good performances in the team. Smithy was excellent as always and most of our good play comes through him. The chances for Vaulks and Towell, came through him and he did well for us.”
Rotherham United’s Foundation Phase players and Lead Coach Jake Henry were recently involved in a landmark England DNA Foundation Phase Roadshow event, which saw a record number of coaches from the local area turn out at Hillsborough College. The session, run by FA National Lead Foundation Phase (5-11) Peter Sturgess, saw the Millers heavily involved in a Continuous Professional Development for coaches in the local area, who were invited to come along and spectate a session put on by Peter and assisted by Rotherham United Academy coach Jake Henry. The evening was run in conjunction with Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA and saw a whole host of grassroots clubs and coaches invited to attend, with Ben Hardaker and our own Head of Academy Coaching John Williams instrumental in organising the session. The Academy’s Under 8s and 9s were put through their paces as part of the coaching demonstration,
with all the members of staff in the club’s Foundation Phase coaching staff present. Lead Foundation Phase Coach Jake expressed his delight at the club’s involvement in such a wellattended event and is hopeful that everyone attending will have benefited from the experience. “The session was aimed at showcasing the England DNA and taking those key messages into coaching our young players,” he told Forever Rotherham. “It was great to see so many people turn out and as an Academy we are finding that we are really benefitting from having such a close relationship with both the national and local county FA. “We are always looking at ways in which we can offer the young players different footballing experiences and to have someone of Peter’s experience putting on a session benefits both the players and us as coaches.” The evening proved equally useful to Peter Sturgess, who heaped praise on the Millers’ youth setup for their part in proceedings. “I was very impressed with the attitude, behaviour and ability of the young players from the academy. They came with a real enthusiasm towards practice and a willingness to be creative and expressive in their play,” he explained. “This bodes well for the future and I will be keeping my eye on their progress. The Academy looks to be developing a truly vibrant Foundation Phase programme and the players looked like they were having a great time which is so important.”

MCCANN HAILS RUTHLESS ROVERS Manager Grant McCann praised his side’s ruthlessness as they brushed aside Bristol Rovers to move back into the play-off positions. Club News iFollow Rovers freeview | Grant McCann post Bristol Rovers 9 December 2018 John Marquis opened the scoring after nine minutes, with Tom Anderson’s header sandwiched between
Mallik Wilks’ brace for a 4-0 win on the road. “We knew going into the game that this is a tough place to come but we’ve done very well, I know they’re in a difficult patch at the minute, but I’ve seen the hard work that Darrell Clarke has put in over the past couple of years,” said McCann. “It was a really good performance from us and we were clinical. The first goal is a really great finish from John, and his good positioning in the box allowed the space to open up for Mallik who’s managed to guide the ball in. “The third one comes from a great bit of skill from Herbie Kane and it’s a great header from Tom, but the most pleasing goal for me was the fourth, with Mallik on the break and he was really strong to keep hold of the ball.” Saturday’s win over the Pirates saw Rovers move back into the League One play-off places, sitting sixth, and after three clean sheets on the bounce and a six-game unbeaten run, McCann says confidence is high in the camp. “The clean sheets we’ve had recently are a credit to the whole team really, we defend from the front, the front three are always pushing and pressing, and that just makes the job a whole lot easier for Ian Lawlor and the back four,” he added. “That’s three wins in a row for us now and we’re on a great unbeaten run at the minute, there’s a lot of confidence around the group at the minute, and we want to get those next couple of wins to get us back on target. “We made four changes from last weekend’s game at Charlton and we still looked very strong, I really am delighted with the professional performance from all the boys and we’re obviously looking to take it into the next game now.” Rovers Half Season Memberships are available now – online at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk, at the Club Doncaster Box Office in person or via telephone 01302 762576.

ROVERS REVEAL CHARITY THIRD KIT FOR CALM Doncaster Rovers have unveiled their third kit for the 2018/19 season as part of a kit design process aimed at helping to raise awareness of mental health in Doncaster and beyond - with the winning look created by an 11-year-old fan. The club, working with NHS Doncaster CCG, created a unique design competition, where children and young people from across the borough were invited to design Doncaster Rovers third kit for the current campaign. As part of the process, the design pack included a series of mental health messaging, provided by NHS Doncaster CCG, aimed at children and young people. According to mental health charity Young Minds three children in every classroom have a mental health problem and only one in three young people with diagnosable mental health conditions currently able to access NHS treatment. In addition to being advertised via official club channels, NHS Doncaster CCG and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) rolled out the campaign to local schools and their service users.
More than 300 children entered the competition and the winner, was local child, Nate Nisar, who entered the competition through his school. Nate said: I went with the triangles because I wanted to choose a retro design, with the colours representing emotions. “People with mental health issues can be feeling lots of different emotions, represented by the variety of different colours.” Rovers players Andy Butler, James Coppinger, John Marquis, Matty Blair and Tommy Rowe picked the final design. Club captain Andy said: “It is great that the club have done a kit to raise awareness of a good cause for the third year in a row. “We had a few options put in front of us, and this one stood out. It is colourful, bright and something that has never been done before - we went round the team and they all thought this stood out and it’ll be an honour to wear it.” The third kit will be sponsored by mental health charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), an award winning charity dedicated to preventing male suicide which is the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK. CALM have been given the shirt sponsorship by LNER, the club’s current shirt sponsor. CALM chief executive Simon Gunning added:”We are extremely grateful for the partnership LNER and DRFC have put together, and are very excited Rovers will be wearing this kit with our logo on the front for a game. “Things like this really help us raise awareness, especially around our helpline which is open form 5pm until midnight seven days a week. LNER and Doncaster Rovers are taking the issue of mental health seriously, and doing it in a great way centred around sport.” The new kit will be available to pre-order from the December 17 and can be collected from January 42019. To speak to CALM call 0800 58 58 58. To speak to CAMHS Community Services Doncaster call 01302 796191.

GAFFER ON ROYALS SUCCESS The Blades boss was delighted with the second half performance at the Madejski. Chris Wilder felt the Blades second-half performance was the decisive factor following Saturday’s win at Reading. Two late goals at the Madejski Stadium saw United leave Berkshire with the spoils, despite a below-par opening 45 minutes against the struggling Royals. Reflecting on the game, Wilder commented: “Secondhalf was great, firsthalf not so. Reading we probably lifted by the prospect of a new manager coming in and they were quicker to the first and second balls. “We still had the better chances though
and after making a couple of changes and reminding the players about the standards they’ve previously set, we came roaring back and thoroughly deserved the victory. “It wasn’t an attacking switch at the break
because the formation is a positive one to start with. In terms of shape and formation we continually want to go for victories.” The boss added: “Nothing is given in this division and Reading have got
a talented group of players. Their bench was strong, so to come and get the win is great and the second-half performance pleased me most.”
WILDER HAPPY WITH LEAGUE POSITION Chris Wilder wants more from his players despite admitting he is delighted with United’s current standing in the Championship. Saturday’s win at Reading lifted the Blades back into third spot, much to the delight of the manager, who remarked: “We’ve recovered well from the Leeds defeat and we’ve come roaring back yet again. “I’m not looking or worrying about other results, we are third
in the division and although I want us to get better more than anyone, but you have to enjoy these moments and we’re ahead of some, big powerful clubs. “We’re right in the mix and we should shout it from the roof tops.” Wilder added: “I’ve got decisions to make and I might not always make the right ones, but we felt we could win this game by playing as we did against Brentford, knowing we had Billy and Mark Duffy to make an impact off the bench. “His attitude to not playing is selfless, both him and Duffs are team players. Both disallowed goals were the correct decisions, but we were getting into some good positions, even in the first-half.”

DRAW THE RIGHT RESULT The Owls and the Millers served up an entertaining 2-2 draw at Hillsborough and Jos Luhukay said the S6 stalemate was probably the right result.

was an intense derby in the Championship for both teams.” Luhukay picked out in-form striker Lucas Joao, whose brace extended his promising current pedigree. The Owls boss added: “Lucas is a special player with a lot of ability. He scored
a very good goal at Blackburn last time and he scores two goals today. “He played a very good game today and got the rewards. “Lucas is like any striker, he wants to be consistent, and right now he is playing well and scoring goals.”
break. But the potent forward pounced again for the Owls to level the scores and ultimately earn a point for the home side. Joao said: “We fought and worked hard for each other to try and get the win, but unfortunately it did not happen today. “We went down 2-1, but we cannot keep our heads down, we are at home in front of our supporters and we fought hard to get the second goal. “After this we did everything to get the
third goal, but it didn’t happen, we will try to make sure it does in the next game.” Joao has now scored eight goals this season, three in his last two games, and is pleased with his current goalscoring form. He added: “I am happy to score, it is my job. “Although, if I could give my two goals away and swap them for two wins then I would. “But I am happy for the goals and happy to help the team.”
20 December will switch from Hillsborough to the Octagon Centre in Sheffield. Owls chairman Dejphon Chansiri will host the forum, at which he will take questions on all issues relative to the club. Mr Chansiri has pledged to be as open and transparent as he realistically can and wishes for as many supporters as possible who wish to attend to do so. Consequently, given the huge demand for places, the forum will now take place from 7.00pm at the Octagon just outside the city centre. Given the venue is away from the stadium and the vastly increased
numbers involved, the forum must become a fully ticketed event. As a result, we must request that all applicants who initially emailed the club for a place apply again, but this time by booking online. You can book your tickets at swfc.co.uk Tickets are now restricted to two per person and once your booking is made, you will receive an automated confirmation email which will serve as ticket entry to the event. Unfortunately because of the change of venue, refreshments will not be available. We thank you for your patience on this matter and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Hillsborough. As a result, Bannan has been handed a two-match ban, taking in the trip to Swansea this Saturday and home game with Preston on 22 December. The Scottish international will return to the fold when Wednesday visit Middlesbrough on Boxing Day.
Barry Bannan will sit out the Owls’ next two fixtures after accruing ten yellow cards. The midfield man picked up his tenth caution during Saturday’s draw with Rotherham at
