WORK BEGINS ON DONCASTER COMMUNITY CYCLING FACILITY Work on a new worldclass cycling facility at Doncaster Dome has begun, thanks to a significant cash injection from the Places to Ride capital grants programme – designed to provide a lasting legacy from the 2019 UCI Road World Championships in Yorkshire. The site will be transformed into a modern cycling area and will encompass a
cycle circuit designed to provide recreational and competitive routes, including a regional specification race circuit. It will include a learn to ride area for children and young people, as well as a cobbled climb. The Doncaster Council project has been made possible through a commitment from the UK Government, with Places to Ride delivered over the next
two years through a unique partnership between British Cycling, Sport England and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS). With contribution from Doncaster Council, it will fund the development of multi-use facilities to engage with a broad spectrum of cyclists, like at Doncaster Dome, as well as smaller scale requests in order to
transform communities across England. Operated by Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust, the 1km-long, 6m-wide circuit will be closed from traffic to create a safe environment for cyclists of all abilities. The Doncaster Dome facility is the first of several trailblazer projects set to leave a lasting imprint from the much-anticipated sporting event this
September and comes as British Cycling announced that more than £2 million, out of the total of £15 million available, will be dedicated to small grant requests in order to transform facilities in communities across England. Applications for both small and large-scale requests from the Places to Ride fund are being accepted until January 2021. LEGEND STATUS AND WALK OF FAME PLAQUE FOR TONY FOULDS This is in recognition of his long years of service to the Mi Amigo memorial in Endcliffe Park, which attracted global interest in the city and led to a memorable flypast watched by an audience of millions. Councillor Julie Dore, leader of the council, said: “Many citizens from Sheffield make a significant impact at national and international level. Tony Foulds, with the help of BBC presenter Dan Walker, put Sheffield well and truly on the world map with a magnificent flypast organised by the US Airforce and Royal Air Force together with the council, BBC Breakfast,
South Yorkshire Police and many others. “We want to thank Tony and the many many others who are so passionate about our city and make Sheffield a great city.” The 22 February 2019 marked 75 years since the Mi Amigo disaster when 10 US airmen died when their B-17 bomber crashed at Endcliffe Park in Sheffield in 1944, while returning from a bombing raid on the continent. Tony remembers witnessing the crash as an eight-year-old boy. On the 22 September 1959, a memorial stone was laid on the exact site. Mr Foulds has tended to the memorial for the past 60 years.
The flypast was inspired by, and is a tribute to, the incredible dedication of Tony Foulds. In its appreciation the Council would like to honour him with a Sheffield Legend award. Have you visited conjunctivitis.com ? It’s a site for sore eyes. My wife text messaged me with one word: “Earth.” It meant the world to me. I was diagnosed with a chronic fear of giants. FeeFiphobia. What did the doctor say to the man covered in cling film? “I can clearly see you’re nuts. I think my wife is putting glue on my antique weapons collection. She denies it but I’m sticking to my guns. My friends laughed at me when I said I had a hot date and they said she was imaginary.. Well the last laughs on them - because they’re imaginary too. What do you call a funny mosquito? Malarious! My wife caught me cross dressing and said it’s over. So I packed her clothes and left. If I ever find the doctor who screwed up my limb replacement surgery... I’ll kill him with my bear hands. Where did Noah keep his bees? In his Ark hives. I left my wife because she was obsessed with counting. I wonder what she’s up to now? What do you call a man with no shins? Tony.
My wife’s leaving me because she thinks I’m obsessed with astronomy. What planet is she on?

only Bach's greatest work but as one of humanity's greatest artistic achievements. This performance has been many months in preparation, with members of the choir - who will also be the soloists, as would have been the case in Bach's time - researching and sharing ideas about interpretation and style in correspondence before bringing it all together in rehearsals in London and Sheffield. It is being hosted by the church of St John the Evangelist, Park, a beautiful 19th Century church with a concrete extension built in sympathy with the nearby Park Hill flats and with views over Sheffield. It is very close
to the City Centre and is a very short walk from Hyde Park tram station. The performance will start at 6.30 pm, with an interval during which refreshments will be served. Price is £10 on the door (£5 for under-18s and unwaged). This one-off event, as reflected by the ensemble not even having a name, promises to be a special and exciting occasion, and particularly attractively priced. The conductor will be the locally-based Philip Collin, the parts of Evangelist will be sung by Tristan Moore and Christus by Rainer Gramer, and the leader of the orchestra will be Hannah Thompson-Smith.

SCANDAL OF DELAYED CARE REFORMS More than 50,000 older people have now died waiting in vain for care during the 700 days since the Government first said it would publish a Care Green Paper Age UK says this demonstrates why the Government must come forward with proposals to reform and properly fund social care, sooner rather than later. The wait goes on for the Social Care Green Paper the Government has promised to publish, but in the 700 days since the Chancellor, Philip Hammond, announced the Government’s intention to produce one during his Spring Budget in 2017, 54,025 older people have died while waiting for a care package to be put in place for them. Over the same period, in excess of half a million older people (626,701) have had their requests for social care refused by their council, and 7,240 older people have had the terrible experience of running down all their savings because of their care bills[3], leaving them reliant on the State to fund their care in future and with nothing to leave for loved ones after their death. In addition, during the same 700 day period, 1,263,844 older people have developed an unmet need, such as being able to wash or dress. This is 1,805 developing an unmet need every day. Caroline Abrahams, Charity Director of Age UK said: “These tragic new figures demonstrate just how many older people are now suffering from the Government’s failure to act decisively on social care. No one can say whether some of those who have died might
have lived longer had they received care, but at the very least their final weeks and months might have been more comfortable and their families’ lives made easier, had they been given more support. Some policymakers talk about social care as though it was some kind of ‘nice to have’ discretionary purchase, but for older people whose health is in decline and who may be approaching the end of their lives it is an absolutely vital public service, and sustaining it and ensuring it is of good quality ought to be a top Government priority. However, the fact we have waited so long for the Green Paper and that its publication has been delayed five times calls this seriously into question. Delays in putting care packages in place for older people reflect a social care system that is inadequate to the task and struggling to cope. Councils are often overwhelmed and therefore slow in processing applications and carrying out assessments, and even once all the paperwork has been completed there can be long delays because there are simply no paid carers available locally to provide help. We fully accept that the Government has had many crucial issues to deal with over the last 700 days, but if it’s your Mum or Dad, husband or wife who is profoundly unwell and who badly needs more support there is nothing more important to you in the world.”

CONCERNS AS CASH MACHINES DISAPPEAR FROM THE HIGH STREET
Over 250 free-to-use cash machines are disappearing across the UK every month, leaving shoppers and businesses struggling to access cash, new figures have showed. A total of nearly 3,000 cashpoints were lost in the second half of last year, with more than half of them, or just over 1,500, being free-to-use ATMs, according to research by consumer group Which? Even some 102 so-called ‘protected’ machines vanished. Protected machines are those cash points which are more than 1km (0.6 miles) away from the next nearest free ATM or are located in particularly deprived parts of the country where access to cash is vital. ATMs closures add to bank branches also closing at an ‘alarming rate’, with 3,300 UK branches having closed their doors since 2015. Which? said the double blow of cashpoint and bank closures was leaving communities struggling to access the cash they rely on and called for ‘urgent regulatory action’ to manage these changes. The closure of cash points has accelerated over the last year. This is partly due to the rise popularity of cashless payments, which is making cash less necessary, as well as to changes in the way the UK’s cash machine network is funded. Concerns about ATM closures were heightened last year when banks announced they would slash the fees they paid to cash machine operators for each withdrawal. But last month Link, Digital health pioneer XenZone will Advice and Support Service, Door 43 the country’s largest operator of cash launch its online mental health support delivered by Sheffield Futures, with machines, said it will increase the fees service, Kooth, in Sheffield after a face-to-face counselling offer from it pays to operators of ATMs in a bid being commissioned by NHS Sheffield Interchange. to stop more closures. LSH APPOINTED TO MANAGE ICONIC FORMER NUM HQ IN SHEFFIELD National commercial property consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) has been appointed by Quest Property (Holly Street) Ltd to manage the former National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) headquarters building at Barkers Pool in Sheffield. Following a £5.5m renovation led by the Barnsley-based developer, the iconic city centre building has been redeveloped as a mixed-use scheme of offices and bars. Grant Thornton
has leased 14,000 sq ft of Grade A office space in the 30,000 sq ft building and are now in occupation having recently relocated from their previous offices. LSH is responsible for managing the remainder of the building, including three new highquality leisure units. The Pitcher and Piano bar as well as the Caribbeanthemed restaurant and bar Turtle Bay opened at the end of 2018 and the final unit is expected to be let shortly. Originally commissioned by Arthur Scargill, the
NUM occupied the building for just four years from 19881992 before moving to Barnsley. The building then stood empty for more than two decades and was threatened with demolition in 2006. Quest Property (Holly Street) Ltd, part of the Brook Group, has secured a 250-year lease of the premises and the adjacent car park from the NUM. Greg Barraclough, Associate Director in the property management team at LSH’s Sheffield office said: ““LSH is delighted to have been appointed to manage such
a prominent City Centre building, especially given the historical significance that the former NUM building has to Sheffield. With
Grant Thornton relocating to the City Centre and the three new leisure outfits created, it is sure to play a key part in Sheffield’s vibrant future.”
LSH’s instruction includes property management, facilities management, service charge administration and tenant liaison.

WANT TO PLAY AT TRAMLINES FESTIVAL? Applications are now open for bands and artists to perform at Sheffield’s biggest ever party. Budding musicians, bands, and artists can now Apply To Play at Sheffield’s biggest ever party, Tramlines Festival, which takes place at Hillsborough Park from Friday 19th July to Sunday 21st July 2019. Entrants hoping to bag a career-changing slot at the 30,000 capacity festival where they’ll be added to a bill alongside the likes of Two Door Cinema Club, Courteeners and Nile Rogers & Chic, need to visit the ‘Apply To Play’ tab on the Tramlines website before 31st May. A handful of winners will be chosen by a judging panel comprised
of This Feeling, BBC Introducing, plus organisers of Tramlines and its music-loving audience. Despite its evergrowing status, record crowd numbers and bigger-than-ever line ups, Tramlines remains true to its longstanding ethos of supporting grass roots talent. Over the years it has been responsible for booking live acts such as The xx, Alt-J, and Catfish and the Bottlemen before they went on to become headline names selling out arena shows. Tramlines continues to offer a stage to showcase the next-gen of UK talent unearthed through its Apply To Play system. Timm Cleasby,
Operations Director at Tramlines said: “We’ve always championed new and local talent at Tramlines. It’s been a highlight for me every year and this year will be no different. We have some great slots across all stages for new artists this year, and it’s open to all. Last year was a massive success with slots being filled by Universal Tree, Little Grace and Saint Petersburg to name a few. I love the excitement of hearing my new favourite band on one of our stages and I can’t wait to see who’s in this year.” Anyone from the UK can apply to play at Tramlines 2019 from solo folk musicians to multi-piece rock bands. All entrants
must have recorded original material that is available for the judging panel to stream via Spotify or Soundcloud. Sitting on the 2019 judging panel are members of the Tramlines organisation team are; Christian Carlisle of BBC Introducing Sheffield, and the club for future rock and roll stars, This Feeling. The Tramlines audience will also be casting their votes. Several winners will be selected to play across four music stages, the Main Stage, T’Other Stage, the Leadmill, and the breaking talent Library Stage. Last year saw the Apply To Play selections impress crowds at Tramlines.
These included, Universal Tree, the new band fronted by legendary Sheffield vocalist, Steve Edwards; Saint Petersburg previously known as The Ratells; Leeds three-piece outfit, Polo; female solo artist, Imi; MTV Iggy Artist of the
Week winner, Kadija Kamara, and Little Grace who perfectly merged Motown, 80’s synth pop and post-2000’s electronic R&B!
Bands have until 31st May to Apply To Play via tramlines.org.uk.

ANGLER’S CORNER
with Clint Walker
I was looking forward to my session this week, but then I changed my mind and instead of going to a relatively forthcoming winter water where bites are almost guaranteed, I went to the extremely tricky estate lake instead, and it didn’t go well. I’ve only got myself to blame… It was one of those mornings during when I twitched back the bedroom curtains and noted that drizzle was falling. It was the kind of rain my wife likes to term ‘frizzy drizzle’, which apparently ruins curly hair, but to the angler, it’s probably better known as “Ugh, I’ve got to set up in that” precipitation which I hate, but as I only had one chance to get out, it was that or nothing. I arrived in the lay-by near the lake, stepped out into a large, unavoidable puddle, got splashed by a passing van, then dropped the tail ramp into an inch of water; I was soaked, and hadn’t even started! I threw the rain cover onto the barrow in a vain attempt to keep something dry, and wandered through the woods to the top of the lake where I thought I’d find shelter… no chance… The wind was howling up the lake, driving gusts across the ripples that you could see from a hundred yards away, and the rain slanted beneath the trees as I pitched the brolly which needed double pegs to anchor it against the onslaught. It was awful. Two rods were quickly pieced together, a pair of method feeders armed and cast out towards the far bank reed line, and the alarms set. I retreated quickly to huddle against the cold and drink some tea in an effort to stave off hypothermia. The rod tips bounced in the waves, the bobbins swung like pendulums, but thankfully, the alarms stayed silent, so I didn’t have to get out! It stayed that way for four long, cold hours, with only two recasts made between rain squalls, and the only levity a mess tin of tepid sausage and beans barely warmed on the stove between a couple of windbreaks as I suffered in the bitter conditions. After four hours though, enough was enough. Usually, my rods are the last thing to go in the bag, but on this day, they were the first as I gave myself no further excuse to carry on. I’d managed to keep some kit dry beneath the shroud of my flat back brolly, but as I collapsed it, even the dry stuff got drenched just to finish me off! With everything slung back on the barrow, clad in a sodden rain sheet, I trudged back through the woods in the incessantly driving rain towards the gate. To my horror, a
huge puddle had formed on the roadside, right beside the gate, and every single vehicle which passed threw up a huge sheet of water… I couldn’t get to the gate without another soaking! The woods either side hid the oncoming traffic, and the noise of the rain precluded me hearing anything coming anyway, so it was down to luck; would I get another shower of filthy run off as I opened the gate? Yes. Three times. As I reached the gate, WHOOSH! A huge wave of dirty rainwater went everywhere, drenching me completely. I could’ve cried in frustration, especially as it happened again, then once more when I finally got my barrow to the kerbside. The final soaking administered by a passing lorry driver who saw me, and with a gleam in his eye, never wavered from his path through the ocean of muck at the roadside… Eventually, I got the van ramp down, wheeled the dripping barrow back inside the vehicle, threw in all of my soaked outer clothes, stripped off sodden boots, and changed into my (relatively) dry training shoes ready for the drive home. After five minutes of organising, as I slammed the tailgate, and slid down the side of the vehicle to get into the driving seat, I saw another lorry returning back up the road! I had no where to go, I couldn’t move either forwards or backwards without moving into the road and oncoming traffic and guess what… another puddle was to my front, the mucky water spreading from the filthy lake on the other side! Staring straight ahead and stony faced, my nemesis covered me with freezing murky liquid. It was so cold I could hardly breathe, and I couldn’t have been wetter if I’d belly flopped into the puddle and struck out for home; even my underwear was clammy and stuck to me as I gasped for air! I managed to get into the van which promptly fogged up with condensation, so I had to sit there for a further five minutes until I could see well enough to drive home, where all the soaked fishing gear was stored in my drying room, I then stripped off at the back door, and went straight upstairs to the shower… past my highly amused wife, to try and restore some warmth… and dignity! I hadn’t had a bite, not so much as an indication, I’d been cold all morning, and been soaked several times… I thought fishing was supposed to be fun? Maybe next time…

COUNTY SENIOR FOOTBALL with Michael Clarke
A wet and windy weekend in South Yorkshire saw a slightly reduced County Senior League fixture list than usual due to a handful of postponements and a number of the leagues’ teams involvement in County cup competition. Premier Division First off second placed Dodworth Miners Welfare won their game in hand against third previously third placed Stocksbridge Park Steels Reserves. Dodworth were convincing 5-2 winners at the Look Local Stadium, cutting leaders North Gawber Colliery’s lead at the top to just two points with seven games to play. Defending champions Swinton Athletic took advantage of Stocksbridge’s defeat to move above them into third place. Enozo Guarini starred for Swinton as they beat Denaby United 5-0 away from home. Hepworth United moved above 10 man Frecheville into sixth place, after an emphatic 6-0 win over them at Davy Sports Club. Handsworth Parramore Reserves moved out of the bottom three for the first time this year, as they drew 1-1 away against Grimethorpe Sports. Handsworth’s form has improved lately, losing only once in their last six games in all competitions. Division One The big game in Division One came at Firvale Academy where second placed
Burngreave FC hosted league leaders AFC Dronfield. It was a day to forget for Dronfield, as goals from Mohammed Hassan (3), John Lufudu (2) and Mubarak Habdon gave Burngreave a headline grabbing 6-0 victory. The win means Dronfield now lead Burngreave only by a superior goal difference, however they have played three games more. Goals from Thomas Bird, Liam O’Brien (2) and James Saunders gave Wombwell Main Reserves a 4-2 win over Sheffield Bankers at Norton Playing Fields. Division Two Stocksbridge Park Steels Development moved to within two points of leaders Wombwell Town, after a 7-4 home win over New Bohemians. Wombwell have played one game less than their rivals, as they did not play this weekend due to their Association Cup tie with Denaby Main, which they lost 4-3 on penalties (2-2 AET). Third placed Sheffield Union also had the chance to cut the gap, but they were held 2-2 at home by Dodworth Miners Welfare. United Worksop and Thurcroft Miners Institute shared the spoils, as they drew 3-3 at Manton Athletic Sports Club. It was a day of goals in Division Two, with another 10 at Netherwood ALC, where Ardsley Athletico Juniors beat AFC Dronfield Reserves 7-3. Jonathan Davis, Yankuba Jammeh, Taylor Jenkins, Reece Tattersall (2), Joe Egan and Kai Skelley were all on target for Ardsley.

WARNE PRAISE FOR 10-MAN MILLERS
“Obviously to concede off a set-piece was disappointing. They blocked our man in the box, which they see some weeks’ and some they don’t but it was a good finish. “However, in some ways, it took the handbrake off the lads and they really got into the game and caused a threat and Tayls (Jon Taylor) caused them all sorts of problems on the right wing and I thought our play deserved a goal. “Unfortunately, the red card spoiled the game. MILLERS chief Paul Warne was quick to I thought we were in the ascendancy and praise his side’s efforts against promotionlooked a threat at that point. chasing Sheffield United, despite their short “I think Will gave the ball away. We wanted to keep it to onenil for as long as possible and then have a right go in the last 15. We tried to frustrate them and I’m really proud of how we played and how hard the players’ worked.” The Blades were quick out of the blocks and deservedly went ahead, thanks to O’Connell’s smart finish from Oliver Norwood’s short corner – but Warne, while disappointed with the nature of the home side’s first goal, believed that his side were very much in the contest at the time of Vaulks’ dismissal, in a moment which gave the Blades a firm grip on the game that they never relinquished. “I knew we would have to ride the storm, at the start, and I know they always like to go wide and we had a sitting midfielder to try and smother that,” Warne revealed.
MCCANN EXPECTS A REACTION AFTER WIMBLEDON DEFEAT Manager Grant McCann says Rovers need to play every game like it’s their last after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat away at AFC Wimbledon. Rovers saw John Marquis sent off for a second bookable offence six minutes after the break before Steve Seddon and Shane McLoughlin grabbed the win for Sky Bet League One’s bottom side, and McCann felt his side played things far too safe. “It felt like we played things very safe, we passed the ball backwards too much, we lacked the intensity we were looking for, especially in the first half, and that’s not like us because that’s not the message we send across to the boys,” he said. “It’s always a tough place to come Wimbledon, and they’re fighting for their lives really, but I was proud of the way the boys reacted after John got sent off, we took risks, we tried to get a goal back, but it just wasn’t to be for us. “Like I said, I think we reacted fairly well after going down to 10 men, we do that quite well where we react to adversity well, we need to make sure we start the game a lot better though and go out as though every game is the last

game that we’re going to play.” Rovers hit the road again on Tuesday night when they face eighth-placed Blackpool at Bloomfield Road. Heading to the coast in search of a first win in five games, McCann is keen to see his side grab the opportunity to get back to winning ways with both hands. “We need to find that flair, that ability to create chances, that ability to find the freedom that we have found so often before, we need to get that back because it really was missing here and that’s disappointing,” he said. “We’ll get it back though, we still have 11 games to go in the league, we’re still in the top six, but we need to find it quickly because the games at this stage of the season are coming thick and fast now. “We can’t just go having good spells in games, we need to be good throughout, we have to take advantage of different situations that come our way, there’s still a long way to go though so we’re going to be straight back at it ready for Tuesday.”

VAULKS RECEIVES FIRST INTERNATIONAL CALL-UP Rotherham United midfielder Will Vaulks has received his first international call-up, after being named in Ryan Giggs’ Wales’ squad. The former Falkirk man will join up with the Welsh national side, who he qualifies to play for through his mother, for fixtures against Trinidad and Tobago and Slovakia. Giggs was in attendance at AESSEAL New York Stadium for the recent Millers game against Blackburn Rovers to watch the 25year-old in action.
MILLERS TAKE UP OPTION ON IHIEKWE Rotherham United have extended defender Michael Ihiekwe’s stay at the Club by a further year, after taking the decision to activate the extension option in his contract. The former Tranmere Rovers man originally penned a deal with the Millers in the summer of 2016 and played a key role in the club’s promotion to the Championship. With five centre halves at the club at the beginning of the 2018/19 campaign, Ihiekwe joined Accrington Stanley on loan until the January window, and has since returned to AESSEAL New York Stadium where he has continued to impress boss Paul Warne. Ihiekwe will now remain with the Millers until the summer of 2020, with Warne pleased to have the Liverpudlian’s services at his disposal for another season. “Icky has been brilliant and has displayed every quality that I require of my players here,” he told www.themillers.co.uk. “We had an honest discussion at the start of the

I totally respected that but also reminded him that I’d be keeping a close eye on his progress. “I watched all of his games at Accrington and we spoke regularly. The reports that I received were always positive and we were more than happy to take him back in January. As I expected, he has continued to work hard and has subsequently earned his place in the side. “He is now very much a part of the group here and his return has given us some really fierce competition in central defence, which can only benefit us as we head into the run-in.”

BITTERSWEET DAY AT DERBY Whilst happy to see his side come back from an early goal to earn a point at promotion-chasing Derby, Steve Bruce also felt frustration at Pride Park. Dominic Iorfa cancelled
out Bradley Johnson’s opener and the Owls might have snatched victory when a late Sam Winnall effort was disallowed. Bruce told swfc.co.uk: “I thought the referee had given it but he must have
seen something and it’s ruled out. “Whether the ball was in the keeper’s hand, it looks that way, I will have to take a look at it on the video. I hope it’s the right decision.” The Owls boss
continued: “We’ve played really well in the second half and I’m disappointed with the draw really, this is a tough place to come to against a team that’s been in and around the

wins – draws don’t really count for much at this stage of the season. “It’s nice to keep the unbeaten run going, we’ve won four and drawn four, but with a couple of those draws being wins, the picture is different.”
PALMER AND BANNAN NAMED IN SCOTLAND SQUAD Owls duo Liam Palmer and Barry Bannan have been called up to the Scotland squad for the coming Euro 2020 qualifying fixtures. Scotland, in Group I, will face Kazakhstan on Thursday 21 March in Astana before taking on San Marino three days later on Sunday 24 March in Serravalle. It’s a maiden senior call for in-form Palmer, who has previously represented Scotland at Under-19 and Under-21 level. Palmer has been an ever-present under Steve Bruce so far showing his versatility at both right and left back. Bannan, meanwhile, has 27 caps for Scotland, with his last international appearance coming in October 2017 against Slovenia in a World Cup qualifier.

OWLS MAINTAIN UNBEATEN RUN AGAINST STUBBORN RAMS FAN COLUMN BY CHRIS PLATTS
The Owls maintained their unbeaten start to Steve Bruce’s reign with a frustrating 1-1 draw against Derby. Wednesday started off slowly to the game making an uncharacteristically defensive mistake, allowing an unmarked Bradley Johnson to head in from a corner after 15 minutes. This woke The Owls up and started to pile the pressure onto Derby. Fletcher and Boyd had the best chances but were kept out well from the former Wednesday player Scott Carson. After the break there was another injury blow as Fletcher limped off with a knock to the ankle and knee. Nuhiu replaced him and showed good strength and hold up play. The equalizer came from a bullet header by Iorfa, rising above the Derby defence from
Bannan’s excellent free kick. The Owls pushed on for the winner and were unfortunate to not have a second after Winnall pounced on a defensive mix up, only to be denied for an alleged foul on Carson. Derby grew in confidence with 10 minutes to go and came close on a couple of occasions. Only for Westwood to fully justify why he has been selected for the upcoming Ireland games. Overall a fair result for both sides who would’ve wished for more as the season draws closer to the end. Steve Bruce will be hoping for more luck on an injury front as fit strikers are becoming a rare commodity for him to choose from. On to the game on Tuesday night against Bolton. A good opportunity for The Owls to gain 3 points and hopefully move closer to the play off positions.

WILDER TO OVERCOME MILLERS The Blades boss was delighted with the Bramall Lane victory over South Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United. Chris Wilder was happy to see his side record a seventh
straight league victory at Bramall Lane, as the Blades beat ten-man Rotherham. A goal in each half from Jack O’Connell and Mark Duffy saw off the stubborn
Millers, who had captain Will Vaulks sent off in the firsthalf for a lunge on George Baldock. And Wilder was happy with how his side managed the situation.
He remarked: “Conditions weren’t great for both sides, but we got ourselves in front early on from a well worked set-piece. “We’d prepared for this game as much as we had for every
other team we have played and I totally respect Paul (Warne) and his team, we knew we had to be at it. “There were a couple of times they got in during the first-half and it was tight until the sending-off.” Wilder continued: “Despite our numerical advantage they still made it difficult for us and that is why in training we have scenarios of playing nine versus ten. “We had to remain disciplined and wait for the openings,
we moved it around and were patient, it isn’t always straight forward. “They dropped deeper so we brought on Gaz (Madine) to give us a different option and the second goal settled us down. “We think a lot about Mark (Duffy) for what he has contributed since we came through the door, our only slight criticism is that he doesn’t score enough goals, hopefully there are more to come.”
WILDER WINS MANAGER OF THE MONTH AWARD
I’ve got a great staff here and the players have gone out there and produce the performances. “It’s quite ironic we’ve got this award on the back of a 3-3 draw at Aston Villa. When we look back, that was a big reaction to a real disappointment. “We take these awards, because we’ve had a great month and we’ve overcome some stiff challenges both home and away. “So to come out of February with 13 points entering the business end of the season is fantastic.”
Chris Wilder has been named Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month for February. United won four times in five games last month, including victories over promotion rivals Middlesbrough and West Brom. More Speaking after receiving the award, Wilder remarked: “I accept this award on behalf of the staff,
