DONCASTER IN BLOOM RETURNS WWW.FACEBOOK.COM/THEMERCURYNEWSPAPER Now in its 29th year, Doncaster in Bloom is an annual competition open to all residents, schools, community groups, and businesses across Doncaster. A large model train covered in flowers It’s a wonderful way to improve our environment, whether in our private gardens or our public spaces, as well as to improve our physical and mental wellbeing.

Judging takes place throughout the summer with an awards evening taking place in October. If you would like to get involved, or if you’re interested in sponsoring a category, then make sure you head online to www. doncaster.gov.uk/ doitonline/doncasterin-bloom-entry-form. Entries are now open and will close on Sunday 30th June. New for 2019 is

the ā€˜Community Champions’ category which celebrates the hard work and dedication of those members of the public carrying out valuable work to improve local areas for the benefit of the whole community. Cllr Chris McGuinness, cabinet member for Communities, Voluntary Sector, and the Environment, said: ā€œI’d encourage as many people

as possible across the borough to get involved in Doncaster in Bloom, whether as a resident, a member of a community group, or as a business-owner. Gardening can do wonders for both you and your community, not to mention making our borough look even more beautiful. So roll up your sleeves, pick up a trowel, and get involved!ā€ Once applications are open, we will be

sharing a variety of photos across our social media channels of previous entrants. The results of the 2018 competition can be found here. Whether you’ve got your eyes on first prize, or if you’ve never picked up a pair of shears before in your life, Doncaster in Bloom is a great way to get some exercise and make our borough an even better place to live.
