10 DAYS. 40 WALKS. 1 AMAZING CITY Strap on your boots and take in Sheffield on foot as Sheffield Walking Festival returns 13 - 22 September 2019. Over ten days, the festival presents a host of enjoyable walks for a range of abilities, with plenty to see and discover along the way. The festival celebrates all sides of Sheffield with 40 routes of varying lengths and themes. Explore the city’s varied heritage and fascinating suburbs on urban strolls or venture out to Sheffield’s dramatic borders that overlap
with the stunning Peak District National Park for something more challenging. After a year of drought, water is the main theme this year, with walks that include all 14 of the Sheffield reservoirs included in the The Sheffield Lakeland Landscape Partnership. The festival kicks off with a section of the proposed 60-mile-long Sheffield Lakeland Way. Wisdom and Victory walks, which incorporate essences of art, self-awareness and shared discovery are new additions, alongside old favourites like the
Sheffield Round Walk and Our Cow Molly. Another feature walk commemorates the life of legendary access campaigner G.H.B. Ward, and includes a visit to an exhibition of his life, being staged at Longshaw. A lot of the of short urban strolls (most in collaboration with Heritage Open Days) are principally guided historical tours led by experts in their particular field. The pace for these is gentle, with frequent stops to look/ learn. Intermediate suburban walks usually combine

history and scenery, and though the leader may have some historical knowledge, there will be fewer stops, while medium to strenuous routes are certainly for the more seasoned walker. All the walks are led by knowledgeable and experienced walk leaders and are FREE to attend, but you must be registered- click on the booking links in the event listings to book on via Eventbrite. Sheffield Walking Festival is organised by Sheffield Walking Forum in conjunction with The Outdoor City
