STREETS IN THE SKY AS CASTLEGATE REVEALS ITS ANCIENT HISTORY Things are looking up for Castlegate in Sheffield ahead of the return of a popular festival which celebrates the area’s past, present and future. Events in Castlegate will be in full swing this weekend as anticipation builds for a raft of new developments in Sheffield’s ancient heart. A number of temporary historic street signs have appeared in the area which show Castlegate’s history such as Under The Water (Bridge Street) Pudding Lane.(King Street) and Truelove’s Gutter – now Castle Street.

Preparations are gearing up for two major festivals in the area this weekend. Canal & River Trust are hosting Sheffield Waterfront Festival, the biggest waterways celebration for many years is taking place across the weekend to commemorate the 200th birthday of the Sheffield & Tinsley Canal, with music, family fun, arts and food from Victoria Quays right up to the fast regenerating Exchange Street, all day on Saturday 21 September. The weekend will see the launch of the Canal Street Art Trail along the

waterway with local street artists including collective Concrete Canvas – who are also showcasing work on Exchange Street throughout September. Castlegate ESCape is a free community streetparty on Exchange Street to celebrate the diversity and culture of Castlegate and the surrounding areas, featuring live music, DJs, live art, talks, spoken word poetry, local food vendors, independent retail stalls and much more. The spiritual home of Sheffield where the Castle once stood - Castlegate

is steeped in history and so we will be celebrating this on the site of the birthplace of our great city ‘Sheaf-field’ by paying homage to the River Sheaf which gave the city it’s name. HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE OF DONCASTER MUSEUM & ART GALLERY

Residents and businesses are being asked to share their views on what the Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery building should become in the future. Doncaster Council, in partnership with HemingwayDesign, are looking at potential options for this iconic mid-20th Century building as the new Central Library and Museum is set to open in summer 2020. The museum will become the new home of Doncaster Archives but

to get a feel for what else people would like to see inside the building and on the surrounding grounds, they can complete a short online survey and help shape its future. The survey will stay open until Friday 18 October 2019. Cllr Bill Mordue, Cabinet Member for Business, Skills and Economic Development, said: “Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery is an important building in the Civic and Cultural Quarter. As part of the overarching Urban

Centre Masterplan we are delivering top quality facilities and attractions in Waterdale and other parts of our town centre which will encourage more visitors and footfall and support new jobs and economic growth. “Once the new Central Library and Museum opens next year, the Modernist style building can be re-used for other complementary purposes which will enhance this major regeneration programme and our exciting plans for

Doncaster and the wider borough.” Cllr Nigel Ball, Cabinet Member for Public Health, Leisure and Culture, said: “Moving forward, the Museum will be home to our future Archives and can also work as part of a more creative approach to archive provision. “To help create our new plans for this wonderful building we really want to find out what ideas residents, businesses and interested parties have in mind. Please complete the short survey and share

your views.” Wayne Hemingway of HemingwayDesign, said: “The Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery is a wonderfully located, beautifully designed building that has stood the test of time and has the ability to now embark on a new productive life and contribute positively to Doncaster’s future . We want to hear from anyone who has ideas or something to say on the subject!” Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery was opened

on Friday 30 October 1964 by the late Princess Margaret, accompanied by her husband at the time photographer and filmmaker the Earl of Snowden. The building was designed by the council’s architect Mr L J Tucker who designed many other local buildings during the period such as Rose Hill Crematorium. It cost £290,000 and was the first in the country to be totally funded by a local authority. It was built to replace the earlier Beechfield Museum which used to stand on the site now occupied by the council’s Civic Office.

The building takes inspiration from the SwissFrench Modernist architect Le Corbusier and has some fascinating architectural elements. The frame and general construction is reinforced concrete. It features exposed concrete ribs with the upper tier clad in random marble slabs. The lower tier is predominantly hand-made rustic brickwork with several elegant mosaic tiled panels each with a central roundel set in a square setting. These colourful, unique panels are framed with decorative hardwood panels. Two striking pieces of

modern art are attached to the building. Epicentre is an abstract piece by the prolific Czech sculptor Franta Belsky and ‘Muse & Artist’ by AngloSpanish academic Fabio Barraclough shows two figures protruding from the wall holding an empty picture frame. More information on how to get involved can be found at: www.doncaster. gov.uk/museumfuture Further information on plans will be released later in the year after all the feedback has been considered.

A man tried to sell me a coffin today... I said: “That’s the last thing I need.” My ex left me because, according to her, I’ll never amount to anything. 15 years later, I have one thing to say to her. Lucky guess. I threw a party for all the workers who helped build my house. The door guy showed up late... ...but he really knew how to make an entrance. I asked my wife to rate my listening skills and she said, “You’re an 8 on a scale of 10.” I still don’t get why she wanted me to urinate on a skeleton. What do you call it when a pig loses its memory? Hamnesia. I just saw my wife walk by with her sexiest underwear on, which can only mean one thing. It’s laundry day. Why doesn’t any man need more than one rooster? A cock a dude’ll do. Man: “Doctor I feel like a supermarket” Doctor: “How long have you felt like this?” Man: “Ever since I was Lidl.” I recently took an airline to court after my luggage didn’t turn up... I lost my case.

YORKSHIRE HOUSING TACKLES CRIME Vulnerable adults are to benefit from crime prevention measures thanks to a project involving Yorkshire Housing. The housing association’s Sheffield-based Home Improvement Agency (HIA) won a £5,000 grant from the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner recently. It will pay for security measures inside and outside people’s homes – including window alarms, window locks and additional security locks for doors. The scheme is aimed at vulnerable adults in areas of disadvantage in Rotherham, Barnsley and Sheffield affected by crimes such as burglary. People aged 60-plus are a focus, but HIA staff will also work with police to identify vulnerable people based on circumstances rather than age, illness or disability. The HIA’s team of Needs, Advice and Support workers and handypersons will deliver the project. And the motivation for it came from their work on the ground in communities across the region. Layla Walton, South HIA and internal adaptations manager, said: “Our client group encompasses elderly people and those who disabled or vulnerable. As a result, the HIA team come across clients on a daily basis that live in fear of, and may be at risk of burglary, all due to a lack of security measures in their homes.” The HIA has worked on similar schemes through police and crime commissioner funding on three previous occasions. Dr Alan Billings even visited the HIA in 2015 to see their work and also present a grant cheque in person. The latest project began this summer and is set to continue until April next year. Recipients will be identified by police and other partner agencies plus HIA staff during customer visits. Crime prevention advice and further reassurance involving police will offer them extra peace of mind. Layla added: “The project will address the number of vulnerable people who are targeted by criminals for theft, burglaries,

Andy Foster of South Yorkshire Police, former HQ Crime Reduction Officer and now Fraud Protect Officer is providing a series of tips for readers on making their home more secure. If you stand outside your home and look at your property and you have lost your front door key, how would you get in? If you manage to gain access without much fuss then so can a burglar. Darker nights are closing in and for some people this time of year increases their fear of crime. There are some simple things that you do to increase the security of your property. Doors The majority of doors fitted in the UK are either Wooden, UPVC or Composite. External timer doors should be secured using a mortice and/or night latch that meets British Standard BS3621. The door lock should display the BS3621 Kitemark Cylinder locks are present on the majority of UPVC doors, it is unfortunate that older UPVC doors may have inferior euro profile cylinder locks fitted and some burglars have developed a method of overcoming their security by snapping the lock. You can overcome this by upgrading your cylinder (lock) to an SS312 diamond approved lock, this being the highest achievable security standard

A former world boxing champion added his weight to the opening of a new building supplies branch in Sheffield, creating three new jobs following a £250,000 refurbishment and rebrand. The Nunnery Drive branch of Frank Key Building Supplies in Park Hill, Sheffield has undergone a complete internal and external refit. Carl Froch MBE, a former super-middleweight world champion, joined Terry Fox, Councillor for Sheffield’s Manor Castle ward, at the official ribbon-cutting ceremony. Chris Cunliffe, Chairman, Frank Key Group, says: “Our Sheffield branch is the standard on which all future Frank Key Building Supplies branches will be modelled. We have consolidated everything under one roof so that our trade and retail customers can find what they need, when they need it. Customers will also notice a fresh, clean environment, increased stock levels, new ranges of everything from electricals and plumbing to paints and general building supplies, plus our new Plant and Tool Hire offer. “We’re delighted to welcome Carl Froch as our guest of honour. As the illuminating Sun glides into Libra joining Mercury and Venus, relationships flourish, and working with or socializing with others can be a pleasure. Romantic opportunities are very much on the cards, especially if you’re willing to make the first move. Call for more news and advice…

The radiant Sun enters your sign for a four week stay, which can see you brimming with energy and selfconfidence. And with Mercury and Venus already in Libra and linking to expansive Jupiter, the coming days may shower you with kindness and good fortune Libra. Call for more advice…

A balanced lifestyle could help streamline your affairs and reduce stress, and with the focus on work and wellness issues, this is a good time to make changes. Venus’s angle to Saturn, could see you wavering regarding an opportunity. Once you see the benefits, you’ll regain your confidence. Call for more…

You’re now in a quieter phase, with a focus on a private zone encouraging you to reflect on your priorities. Have something to resolve? You may be guided to take action on a relationship issue and initiating discussion could help iron out any difficulties. Call for more news and astral advice…

Leisure options can bring a lot of pleasure, and with both Venus and Mercury linking to Jupiter, this can certainly be a time to indulge. More urgent matters can call out to you around midweek though, when a decision to get closure on a key issue can bring relief. Call for more advice…

You seem to be in a peak social phase, which can see you eager to connect with friends and move in new circles. Just keep an eye on membership and other related costs, as comparing prices could net you a better deal. Supportive bonds and romance can be a possibility. Call for more news…

Domestic pleasures can be yours, whether you want to relax and enjoy some pampering, redecorate or perhaps entertain. Don’t presume to know what close ones are thinking though, as this could lead to complications. It’s better to talk things over and reach an agreement. Call for more news…

As the Sun adds its positive presence to your sector of goals, this is a great opportunity to promote your skills and move forward with key ambitions. You might not progress far without the help of others Capricorn, so making an effort to socialize can be a good move. Call for more advice…

Good communication can bring positive developments, and with flexibility you may be able to sign off deals and come to sound agreements. You’ll need to be more circumspect around midweek though, when a Mercury Pluto angle hints at potential conflict. Call for more news and advice…

This is very much a time to reach out for new opportunities, whether this involves travel, study or moving out of your comfort zone. Don’t feel you have to do this alone though, as teaming up with friends or interested others can make progress all the swifter. Call for more news and advice…

As Mercury and Venus align with Jupiter, the idea of buying for your home could see you looking for ways to enhance your place. Have more pressing projects on the go? Working out a budget can overcome any conflict of interests. Want a fresh financial start? Now is the time to go for it. Call for more…

If you want to forge ahead with ambitious plans this week, you are being encouraged to make changes that can assist in this process. If you take one step forward, the cosmos will help you move several more steps along. Don’t listen to so called friends who only want to criticize. Call for more…

JUST TRUST ELVIS COSTELLO AND THE IMPOSTERS WHEN THEY COME TO TOWN Elvis Costello and The Imposters will bring their new show to the U.K. for their first tour of the decade in February and March 2020, calling in at Sheffield City Hall on Saturday 7th March. Tickets On-Sale this Friday September 20th. The tour is entitled, “Just Trust” in answer to the musical questions: “Will they play my favourite song?,” or, “Are they going to frighten the horses with songs that are rarely performed and send some of their old nags off to pasture?” When ticket holders ask, “Can I expect the hits of

yesteryear and those of tomorrow?” We say: Just Trust Elvis Costello and The Imposters. This superlative ensemble - Steve Nieve on keyboards, Pete Thomas on drums, and bassist and vocalist, Davey Faragher - are once again augmented by singers Kitten Kuroi and Briana Lee, all of whom were heard on the acclaimed 2018 Concord Records release, ‘Look Now,’ numbers from which will find their rightful place among the highlights from one of the most unique and renowned song catalogues in popular music.

E.C. and The Imposters finally get to bring one of their recent stage shows to England, Scotland and Wales, with return concert engagements in Cardiff and Edinburgh, which they visited as recently as the summer of 2018, while the date at the Sunderland Empire marks the first appearance in the city for forty years. The tour opens on February 28th at the Eventim Olympia in Liverpool, a former circus on the West Derby Road and therefore on the singer’s bus route home from school during his years living on Merseyside.

The tour comes after a season of unlikely accolades in which the now defunct British Empire finally acknowledged a member of the enduring MacManus Clan with a medal that both friends and detractors have assumed stood for the “’Orrible Bloody Elvis” medal and in the same year in which Costello received a Hollywood Walk Of Fame Star alongside Spike Lee, Billy Idol, Burt Ward and his former video co-star, Julia Roberts and following in the footsteps of Fred Astaire, Ruby Keeler and Rin Tin Tin, among many, many other stars

of stage, screen and the radio airwaves. It is available from all reputable phonographic emporiums or if you go fishing in the stream. into fifteen feet of water. The jetties rocked gently in the swell produced by a gorgeously warm wind as I dropped my unhooking mat on the timbers and sat down to enjoy the sunshine. Despite changeable conditions, I enjoyed an hour or two of glorious sunshine as I chatted to other water users, explained the vagaries of ‘Whistle Cam’ to a fellow angler, (you really should install it for fishing ‘selfies’, it makes things very easy) and caught fish regularly. I didn’t even open my little lure box, instead using tiny pieces of broken worm on the hook and landed almost seventy fish, a mixture of feisty ruffe and perch, locating ‘nests’ of fish beneath the woodwork, some on the lake bed, others just beneath me and I alternated between the two to keep fish coming. Once again, I caught nothing of notable size, but enjoyed the time immensely as I lost myself in the beautiful surroundings. Overall, I’d landed perhaps a hundred fish, each one a tiddler by anyone’s standards, but my total must surely have been almost twenty pounds, and if I’d been match fishing, I’d have turned in a respectable tally of at approximately ten metres. It was a great way to spend a snatched few hours by the water, and if you haven’t tried dropshot yet, there is no better time than now! Give it a go, you won’t regret it!

WE DEFINITELY DESERVED IT - WARNE Rotherham United manager Paul Warne was delighted to see his side hit six on their way to three points against Bolton Wanderers last weekend. Despite going a goal down earl on, the Millers bounced back with half a dozen strikes to record their first victory at AESSEAL New York Stadium this season. “I always think we can be better,” said Warne. “If I didn’t I’m not doing my job properly. We’ll watch the game back tomorrow then prepare for Sunderland. We’ll see what things we could have done better. “We had plenty of chances, first-half.

The set-piece caught us cold, even though we haven’t been able to have them watched, I knew set-pieces would be a problem. Someone fell asleep, so that’s a problem. “But, overall, to score six goals at home in the sunshine, it was a good workout against a good Bolton side. We weren’t playing against an Under21s – anything but. They did cause us problems, at times, but more often than not, the lads answered the questions.” A superb solo goal from Ben Wiles levelled the tie, before Freddie Ladapo and a Millers first for Carlton Morris made it 3-1 before the break.

Ladapo and Morris helped themselves to another strike each before Jake Hastie scored United’s sixth. “The lads were trying to score,” continued Warne “We were putting dangerous crosses in. We haven’t had much luck over the last five or six games, I don’t think. Whereas we had a lot of luck today, like

Carlton’s second goal with how it fell to him and a deflected shot. You could argue that the scoreline maybe flattered us, I don’t know if we were deserved of more goals but we were definitely deserved of a win. “We have the easy part of trying to prepare the lads and give them as

He added: “I think we’ve had a good start, but that’s all it is at the moment and

we have to keep that going for as long as we can. “We had two draws to start the season off and then backed that up with three wins against really good opponents before a hard earned point at Ipswich. “We’ve put a bit of a marker down as to what teams can expect from us and momentum has gathered along the way.”

LOCAL FOOTBALL County Senior Leagues with Michael Clarke

Over 35s / Over 45s with A. Royston

Due to a number of the County Senior League teams taking part in County Cup competition it was a slightly less congested league schedule than we are used to of late, however 14 league games were still on the slab this past week.

Sheffield Academicals are newly promoted to the Premier Division and opened their season with a bang, thumping Esecar Dynamoes to the tune of 8-3. Doran scoring five goals, Webber a brace and one for Straw - Copnell 2 and Rose for Dynamoes. Dinnington Town and Fossils FC shared the points with a 2-2 draw. In Division One the game between Bullcroft S&P was abandoned after 76 mins with one of the visitors players injured and needing hospital attention the score at the time was7-3 to Bullcroft, Magilton 3, Davies 2, Roberts and Warboys. Doncaster Over 35s were 3-0 winners against West End Terriers - Skelding, Wilson and Findley scoring the goals. Hemsworth Miners shared the points with Scawthorpe Club in a 3-3draw. Thorncliffe FC and Royston Oakwood had to switch fixtures because of their ground had been taken over by travellers and it proved good for Royston who picked up their first win after going all last season without picking up a win. Dronfield Town got their season of to a good start with a 4-0 win against Clowne Wanderers - Parry Millington, Butterworth and Thew all finding the back of the net. Hollingwood Old Boys were 4-2 winners against AFC Dronfield - Molloy 2, Weatherall and Humphries - Maddock (pen) and Chasemore for Dronfied. Joker Over 35s shared the points with Woodhouse West End in a 2-2 draw. Elsecar Dynamoes asked for their first two games to be played away as their ground was unavailable, it proved a good move as they have won both games. This time round it was Dronfield Town Blacks who were the side to suffer to the tune of 5-1 with Galvin 2, Bowen, Power and Parkinson - Rankin grabbing a consolation for Dronfield. Hallam 1860 A beat Mosborough Trinity by 3-0 with Fox 2 and Tilly. 45s Division 2 - Old Edwardians 0 - Denaby United 4. Plough Vets and Dronfield Town Reds shared the points with a 2-2 draw. Last year’s runner’s up Dodworth Miners Welfare are just a point behind the leaders in fifth place, after a 1-0 away win over Jubilee Sports. Jubilee had come into the game on the back of back-toback wins, after 2-1 home win over Burngreave FC midweek. Burngreave’s difficult start to the season continued on Saturday, as they fell to their 6th straight defeat, a 4-2 loss to AFC Penistone Church. Grimethorpe LLFC continued their good start to the season with an emphatic 6-0 home win over High Green Villa. Grimethorpe have won three of their first four games. On Saturday at Park Road, Oughtibridge WMSC were held to a 2-2 draw by mid-table side Wakefield AFC. Division One League leaders Wombwell Town made it five wins from five in a rare Tuesday night game in the County Senior League. Wombwell were 5-2 winners over United Worksop. Worksop bounced back immediately as they recorded their first win of the season on Saturday, a 1-0 away win over Ardsley Athletico. Wombwell Main Development are up to third place, after a 4-2 victory over Sheffield Union on Saturday. Kiveton Park are just a point behind in fourth place, after a 3-3 draw with South Kirkby Colliery. A LOT OF WORK AHEAD - MONK New Owls boss Garry Monk was delighted with his maiden win in the Wednesday dugout on Sunday but insists there is a lot of work ahead. The Owls’ 2-0 win over Huddersfield in West Yorkshire was well deserved and a welcomed start for Monk. But the former Owls loanee acknowledges that, although pleased with the performance and result, there is plenty of room for improvement.

“That’s what we are going to focus on,” Monk said. “It’s not about me, it’s about this squad, these players and they came close a few seasons ago. “I want to help them get back to the levels they’ve been at before and achieve something good. “Unfortunately, we will face teams every week that think the same! “There will be ups and downs, we will not be going over the top because we have

won one game, there is a lot of work ahead of us. “There are really good things that they have done so far but I can see a lot of improvements that need to be done as well.” On the positives from Sunday’s victory over the Terriers that saw Steven Fletcher bag his fourth goal of the campaign and Sam Winnall open his account for 2019/20, Monk added: “The most pleasing thing on Sunday

was to see the team attitude towards a difficult game. “The intensity and attitude shone

pleased with any win in this division and particularly at what is a difficult place to come to with a new manager as well. “But we did our jobs, we scored at the right times I thought, and With a maiden it was a thoroughly success to his name professional at the first time performance. of asking, Garry Monk cut a satisfied “Defensively and offensively we got it figure post-match at the John Smith’s right and credit to the players because they Stadium. carried out what we Whilst emphasising the need for continual wanted them to do and they deserve the improvement, the three points. new Wednesday “Of course, we can manager took do things better, that’s pleasure from a productive first day at football and from a coaching perspective the office as his side there are always beat Huddersfield things to improve. 2-0. “But that will come He told swfc.co.uk: with time. Everyone around the place, at the club, the training ground and in the city has made me feel so welcome. “I’m excited for the challenges ahead and will totally give my all for this huge football club.”

Barry Bannan posted his 150th league start for the Owls on Sunday as his side overcame Huddersfield 2-0 in West Yorkshire. The game was new manager Garry Monk’s first in the Wednesday dugout and Bannan marked the occasion with a Man of the Match performance. we’ve hit the ground running with a great victory. “There’s a lot of talent in the squad, the boys are really happy with the first week’s training and what the gaffer has said to us has been really positive.”

MONK STARTS WITH A WIN FAN COLUMN BY CHRIS PLATTS

Garry Monk’s reign as Sheffield Wednesday Manager started with a win over Huddersfield Town on Sunday afternoon. In what was a rare match up, with both manager’s in charge for their first games, it was always going to be interesting to see who would come out on top. With Huddersfield appointing a rumoured Wednesday target, Danny Cowley, earlier in the week. The Terriers had much of the possession throughout the match,

but The Owls took the lead after 10 minutes with a header from Fletcher. Scoring his third goal in as many games. The hosts had a couple of half chances but never looked like making a decisive breakthrough. The game was decided in the second half when substitute Sam Winnall headed home after 72 minutes, after a lovely cross from Barry Bannan. With a classic counter attacking away performance Garry Monk will have been pleased with how his first game in charge went.

VAR CONTROVERSY OVERSHADOWS GREAT MATCH Saturday’s narrow defeat to Southampton was marred by two VAR decisions; one rightly given and one glaring mistake by Stockley Park. However United must look at the chances they missed as the reason they slipped to defeat, for the game could have been won before VAR was called upon. Djenepo netted the only goal of the game for Southampton in the second-half, in a game that saw United finish with ten-men, following the late sending-off of Billy Sharp. United started positively and forced an early corner, after a free

flowing move almost created a chance for Lundstram. At the other end, Henderson saved comfortably from a header from Vestergaard after Southampton had forced a corner themselves. Both teams then came close to opening the scoring, within a minute of each other. For Southampton, Adams rattled the post from distance, before the Blades broke swiftly only for Gunn to deny McGoldrick who had been played through on goal by McBurnie. The game continued to see chances created. Fleck headed over having timed his run

to perfection to meet Baldock’s cross. Fleck was involved again moments later, tfiring an effort wide after Vestergaard misread a diagonal pass from Stevens. United had Henderson to thank for keeping the game goalless, with the Manchester United loanee producing a fantastic reflex save to keep out a downward header by Adams, with Basham denying Højbjerg on the rebound. McBurnie needed lengthy treatment as half-time approached, and Basham had to make a perfectly timed tackle to deny

Boufal, before the same player saw a shot saved comfortably by Henderson Southampton made a few tasty challenges in the opening minutes of the second period and Vestergaard was booked for a late hit on Baldock. And from the resulting free-kick United thought they had gone in front through McBurnie, only for VAR to rule an offside from Norwood’s right-wing delivery. In response, Saints ventured forward but once again Henderson was equal to an effort from Adams, before the lively Boufal fired over from the edge of

the box. In the 65th minute, Wilder made his first change of the game, with Sharp taking the place of the hardworking McBurnie, but within 60 seconds, it was the Saints who went in front as DJENEPO seized on a slip from Norwood before beating three challenges and slotting past Henderson. As the clocked ticked down, the Blades poured forward, firstly, Fleck was denied by a last-ditch block, before Gunn denied McGoldrick and on the rebound, Mousset fired wide on the turn. Mousset’s pace then created a chance on

the break, but Cédric managed to make a needed block. McGoldrick fired over from a promising position, before substitute Sharp was harshly sent off for a tackle on Armstrong. With O’Connell waiting to tap in, United were denied by a clear handball. However VAR inexplicably upheld Lee Mason’s dcision to award only a corner Six minutes of added time were signalled, which gave United one final hope, but the visitors held on.

THE PRINCE SPEAKS OUT ON SUFC The new regime has begun at Bramall Lane with a serious PR assault by the the Prince, who has now come out in public with a long and detailed interview on Sky TV. Within hours of the judgement being released, a special Fans’ Forum has been arranged for Thursday evening at bramall Lane, with ‘representatives of the Prince” in attendance along with Chris Wilder & Steve Bettis, the Chief Executive. The Prince was careful to avoid giving direct answers when

quizzed about his finances, and did not reveal how he intends to fund the purchase of shares and subsequent buy-back of the properties including Bramall Lane & Shirecliffe. Fans will no doubt be delighted to hear that he views Wilder as a top coach and intends to back him to the hilt, including making available the necessary funds should Chris want to strengthen the squad in January. It appears that day to day control willr est in the hands of his son-in-law, who will be moving to Sheffield with

his family to take up the role of Chairman. The Prince seems keen to improve the matchday experience for fans and was adamant that a move away from Bramall Lane has not even been contemplated. it will be reassuring to hear that he greatly values the history and tradition associated with the world’s oldest professional football stadium. Only time will tell whether this moment represents a great step forward for the club, or a return to problems of the 80s and 90s. Certainly

the appetite for Premier Football in the Middle East represents a huge opportunity for the club to move forward on the world stage; and the Prince, it must be noted, has a long history of involvement in sport in general, and football in particular, without any negative reports surrounding him in this area. The fans have concerns in anumber of areas; the future of Chris Wilder and his response to events (Cub legend Tony Currie expressed his concerns about this when resigning

from the Board in the wake of the judgement); the involvement of Jan Van Winckel, the overseas coach appointed to the club who has not as yet been seen to influence matters; and the ability of the Prince to finance a successful premier League club, given his apparent inability to provide relatively modest sums in preceding years when called upon to do so. And of course, for some time there will be continued uncertainty until the McCabe camp decide whether an appeal is worth

pursuing; certainly Kevin MaCabe is not a man to accept defeat easily, as West Ham found out to their cost (£25 million) the last time the Blades were in the Premier League. For now, there is little that can be done but to watch and wait for events to unflod, and for the Prince to win the fans round by delivering on his inital promises and give Chris and the boys every opportunity to cement their place in the top flight. Otherwise we may see the Car Park protests re-awaken!

ROAD SOCIAL OFFICIAL CLUB STATEMENT FOLLOWING THE VERDICT FARM FARM ROAD •SHEFFIELD • S2 2TP • 0114 272 9947 This morning, the High Court of Justice, Business and Property Courts of England and Wales, issued its judgment requiring Sheffield United Limited (SUL), a company controlled by Mr Kevin

McCabe, to sell its shares in Blades Leisure Limited (Blades), the parent of Sheffield United Football Club Ltd, to UTB, LLC, a company owned by H.R.H. Prince Abdullah bin Mosa’ad bin

Abdulaziz Al Sa’ud. The judgment also dismissed all of the claims which SUL had made against Prince Abdullah, UTB and SUFC and Blades board member Mr Yusuf Giansiracusa. After 20 months

of contentious litigation, the Club is delighted that this judgment brings an end to the uncertainty over Sheffield United’s future ownership and allows us to focus our full attention on the season ahead.
