ROTHERHAM BORN SINGER-SONGWRITER & LOTS MORE TO BRIGHTEN THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH-ON IN ROTHERHAM Local artist Lauren Housley, Yorkshire’s Hyde Park Brass Band and an illuminated circus performance from artists Flame OZ will be headlining at this year’s Christmas lights switch-on. The event will be held in the town centre at All Saints’ Square on Thursday 14 November from 5.30pm. Born and raised in Rotherham, Lauren
Housley is a singersongwriter who has travelled the world playing in the US, Canada and Europe and has received support from BBC Radio 2. Last year, she was invited to play a headlining slot at the Bluesfest at The O2 Arena in London. Hyde Park Brass Band started in 2015 as a one-off performance at the University of Leeds. After deciding to
perform more than just one gig they have built a growing reputation around their home city of Leeds. They have developed a repertoire which combines a range of varied musical inspirations. Their performance will include playing festive classics in their unmistakeable party style. The award-winning Halo Glow Show from circus ensemble Flame Oz will
light up the evening with an explosive visual stage act. Performed by four virtuoso circus artists with super bright LED glowing hula hoops, juggling clubs and ‘hyperlight’ poi will be beautifully presented in feats of control and synchronous choreography leading to a thrilling finale. They will be joined by the Rotherham Youth Choir and members of
the cast of the Civic Theatre’s pantomime Sleeping Beauty, who will entertain the crowds with songs and comedy routines. The Rotherham Council run event kicks off at 5.30pm culminating in the actual switch on of the town centre Christmas illuminations, which will be performed by Rotherham Mayor Councillor Jenny Andrews at 6.30pm. will be followed by a performance from Hyde Park Brass Band and the event will finish at 7pm. The annual event, which regularly attracts 5,000 people, will be hosted by Stewart Nicholson from Rother FM. A Festive Gift Market will take place on Effingham Street from 10am to 7pm and is a perfect opportunity to pick up Christmas presents for family and friends. Rotherham Council’s Assistant Director for Culture, Sport and Tourism, Polly Hamilton, said: “The Christmas countdown will get
underway in the town centre at this wonderful family occasion as the lights are officially turned on. It promises to be a special evening of live performances filled with comedy, colourful entertainment and festive music hits. We welcome everyone to come along and enjoy a magical experience. There’s a Festive Gift Market happening too, which is ideal for buying those unique Christmas presents.” Parking is free from 4pm in all Council-owned car parks and on-street parking bays (maximum stay still applies).
Customers using Wellgate Multi-storey will be provided with a ticket at the barrier but will not be charged on leaving. The car park will be locked at 10pm rather than 7pm. Rotherham shoppers can also benefit from free weekend parking in all town centre based council-run car parks and on-street parking bays in the run up to Christmas from Saturday 16th November up to and including Saturday 21st December.

LIAM GALLAGHER SWAGGERS IN TO THE FLYDSA ARENA NEXT WEEK Liam Gallagher has set off on a major UK tour and the 11-date schedule includes a show in Sheffield at the FlyDSA Arena next week on the 18th November 2019. Huge demand for tickets has been a hallmark of Liam’s solo career. His debut UK arena tour saw all 100,000 tickets sell out within a morning, while all 40,000 tickets for his Finsbury Park show were snapped up within minutes.
Liam Gallagher’s eagerly anticipated second album Why Me? Why Not. is one of the album events of the year after being released in September. The reaction to the lead single Shockwave was biblical. It shot straight to the top of the Official Vinyl and Trending Charts, in the process underlining Liam’s status as a rock star who speaks to new and established fans alike. His momentum continued over the summer when he headlined Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage on the Saturday evening. A limited number of tickets may become available, priced £36.55 - £64.55 (including fees). For the latest availability you can call the booking hotline on 0114 256 55 66 or visit www.flydsaarena.co.uk.

ISSUE 1344 13/11/2019
helping children with send Families, schools and services are being asked to have their say on Sheffield’s new Inclusion Strategy. Sheffield City Council, NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group and Sheffield’s Parent Carer Forum have worked together to draft the strategy to describe how we, as a city, improve how we meet the needs of our children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). They used feedback from more than 60 people who attended co-production sessions in October, the views of young people taking part in discussion groups, a strategy survey and the responses of more than 700 people who completed the Parent Carer Forum’s State of Sheffield survey. The strategy will run for five years and set the priorities for how Sheffield supports its children and young people with additional needs. The consultation, which asks people to give feedback on the draft strategy, runs from 11 November to 8 December. People can have their say online. John Macilwraith, Executive Director of People Services at Sheffield City Council, said: “We all want the best for our children and to see them thrive and live happy and fulfilled lives. For children with special educational needs this is no different. It is important that they have the right support in place at school, and other health and care needs met. We hope as many people as possible have their say on the consultation for the strategy so
they can help shape the valuable support needed for themselves and their families.” Brian Hughes, Director of Commissioning and Performance at NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “We want to make sure that the priorities in our strategy are right and meet the needs of children with special education needs and disabilities. It is really important that people give their feedback on the draft strategy. We’re particularly keen to hear from families, schools and people who work in children and young people’s services as they are best placed to help us shape our priorities for children with SEND.” The strategy will be finalised after the consultation and will support and drive work to improve how Sheffield meets special educational needs and ensures inclusion. In Sheffield more than 13,500 school aged children have special educational needs, which equates to just over 16% of the school population. Meanwhile this year’s Overall Winner Award at Sheffield’s Children’s Book Awards was announced at The Crucible Theatre on Friday in front of an audience of 1,000 people. ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’ by Onjali Q Rauf, illustrated by Pippa Curnick and published by Orion took the prestigious prize, which was voted into number one place by Sheffield children. Thousands of children across the city voted for their favourite story.
freemasons support local flood victims
Yorkshire Freemasons have donated thousands of pounds in an emergency grant to help those in South Yorkshire affected by this week’s floods. £15,000 is being donated to South Yorkshire Community Foundation’s Emergency Flood Disaster Relief Appeal by the Freemasons Province of Yorkshire West Riding – which covers West and South Yorkshire. The appeal will support families and local people who have been displaced from their homes and had their property damaged by severe flood waters. About 400 homes have been flooded in the North, and 1,200 properties have been evacuated, according to the Environment Agency. Dozens of flood warnings are in place across the county and further heavy rain is forecast. Additionally, Freemasons are being asked to assist anyone in distress caused by the floods. In the past, Masonic Halls have opened their doors to provide temporary shelter and a hot meal, and now are preparing to do the same. The £15,000 grant from Yorkshire, West Riding Freemasons includes £10,000 from the Masonic Charitable Foundation, which is funded by Freemasons, their families and friends, from across England and Wales. David Pratt, the Provincial Grand Master of the Province of Yorkshire West Riding, said: “I’m very pleased that Freemasons have been able to move so fast to provide help to those in our community who have been so badly affected by these terrible floods. Anyone who has experienced being flooded will appreciate the long-term distress and anxiety it causes. As Mars enters your sign, you’ll find yourself back in the driving seat and ready to take your destiny into your own hands. Energy and focus improve too. However, as Mars opposes Uranus, it will help to tread with care regarding a key bond, as a disconnect is possible. Call for more astral advice…
The pace at work can heat up and you could find yourself busier than usual. Experiencing delays? With lively Mercury turning direct, this can make tackling those projects so much easier. Still, the temptation to take short cuts might be strong and is best avoided. Call for more astral advice…
Feel you’re not living to your full potential? Working with a life coach or spiritual teacher can enable this to happen. The Sun’s move into your sign brings vitality, and a golden opportunity to shine, while a heart-warming Venus Jupiter link may coincide with a special encounter. Call for more…
A Quarter Moon in a more intense zone could be an opportunity to work on last minute costs concerning a key project, and to cut back where possible. Romantic and creative options may peak, and if there have been misunderstandings these can dissolve as Mercury turns direct. Call for more…
Your social life has been active for some while, and this will be enhanced as trailblazer Mars moves in, encouraging you to be proactive in this regard. Liaising with those who have influence can help you make good progress, as will Mercury forging ahead after its retrograde phase. Call for more…
There’s a lot of action on the home front that could see you getting your place ready for any seasonal events, but also wanting to get your work/life balance sorted too. If you have responsibilities, try to delegate rather than cut corners Leo. Call for more news and advice…
Mars in your sector of ambition can see you eager to prove yourself and make a big impression. But think carefully about how you hope to accomplish this, as with Uranus in the mix, an impulsive move could backfire. Patience is the key here Aquarius. Call for more news and astral advice…
If you’ve experienced misunderstandings or been held back by delays, things can shift from this week. And with feisty Mars moving into your sector of talk and thought, you may be busier than usual but also eager to get ahead with admin and key plans. Call for more news and advice…
Ready to expand your horizons? From this week onwards you may put more energy into planning a vacation, grasping an opportunity or taking up a course of study, all of which can further your cause. Preparation is key though, as you could lose out if you gloss over the details. Call for more…

SOUL TRAIN STEAMS INTO PENISTONE SOUL TRAIN will steam into Penistone Paramount Theatre on Friday 13th December, with a welcome return back after their rousing debut at the venue and once again on board will be a fine feast of soulful gems. Harking back to the wonderful days when the dance
floor as king, the show features a fun presentation of 60s and 70s soul classics. From the early days of Tamla Motown, Stax and Atlantic records though to the disco years and beyond (dig out those flairs!) Featured in a feel good production are classic hit songs by – Stevie Wonder, Isley Brothers, Supremes, Gladys Knight, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer, Candi Staton, Whitney Houston and many more great artists that still keep us singing and dancing. Its that time of year for festive favourites too and the party spirit is sure to be A Winter Wonderland as All They Want For Christmas Is You. Wonderful memories and always a fun night out ! SHEFFIELD’S LEGENDARY BEATLES PERFORMANCE TOPS THE MOJO BILL History was repeated when a legendary Sheffield gig was restaged to celebrate the launch of a new book. Peter Stringfellow could never have guessed he’d created an event that would enter the annals of rock’n’roll history when he booked the Beatles to perform at St Aiden’s Hall on City Road, Sheffield, . The sell out show – which ended up being moved to the bigger Azena Ballroom in Gleadless - caused near riots as
hundreds of young people turned up without tickets and was just before the entrepreneur launched his legendary King Mojo club with his brother Geoff. Neil Anderson’s new ‘Dirty Stop Out’s Guide to 1960s Sheffield – The King Mojo Edition’ was unveiled at a packed Genting Casino Sheffield event headlined by renowned local Beatles tribute, the Beatleg Bootles. The band’s performance was
based on the set list from the Beatles’ Azena show from February, 1963. Sheffield author Neil Anderson says the ‘King Mojo edition’ of his best selling Dirty Stop Out series will be a fitting tribute to Peter Stringfellow who died last year. He said: “The contribution Peter and Geoff made to popular culture in the era was quite incredible. They were central to the Beatles story and the Azena gig became the stuff of legend. They
went on to launch the King Mojo club which created lifelong friendships amongst its teenage audience and attracted acts that went on to conquer the world.”
xxx
The event was raising money for Cruse Bereavement Care. The ‘Dirty Stop Out’s Guide to 1960s Sheffield – King MojoEdition’ is on sale from www. dirtystopouts.com and all good book shops.

Charity Gives City’s Youth Work a Revamp and Cash Boost YOUTH charity Sheffield Futures has revamped the way youth services are offered across the city and raised £20,000 to kick start new ‘Youth Sheffield’ programme. The charity currently leads up to 40 youth work sessions a week, funded by Sheffield City Council. With the Council’s support, the charity is now transforming the way it works with young people, but says it needs ongoing funding and help from the wider community ‘to give young people the youth service they truly deserve’. Gail Gibbons, CEO at Sheffield Futures said: “‘Investment in youth work is needed more than ever after years and years of significant Government cuts to children and young people’s services nationally.
“We’re seeing, not only in Sheffield but across the country, major problems such as the rise in young people’s mental health issues, exploitation of vulnerable young people and associated violent crime. “We believe that investment in highly trained youth workers, who can not only involve young people in enriching activities, but help keep them safe and inspire and support them to make the most of their lives, is key.” The refreshed city-wide youth service, ‘Youth Sheffield’, will be led by a new team of youth work team leaders who will coordinate a curriculum of activities, including sports, arts and life skills. This curriculum will be delivered across 20 youth centres, and through street based
youth work, for those who do not feel able to access a club. Ms Gibbons, said: “It’s so important that all young people, no matter their circumstances, are given the opportunity to access high quality youth provision. Sometimes that can mean engaging young people on their own territory, on their own terms, on the streets or in local parks for example. “However, we hope that over time, we are able to bring more and more young people into our youth centres, but we can’t do this alone. “To reach as many young people as possible, particularly those who are most in need, we must work closely with partners such as the Council, South Yorkshire Police and many of the other fantastic organisations we have in this city that have young people’s well-being firmly at their heart.” As part of this work, Youth Sheffield plans to develop a new youth work network, known as Sheffield Youth Partnership, to provide support to other youth work organisations, to share information and resources, and upskill those who work with young people locally. The £20,000 donation made by Sheffield Futures has launched the programme, but the charity is looking for additional sources of funding to help expand and continue the work, as well as support from community organisations and volunteers.
Organisations and individuals that would like to collaborate and be part of the Sheffield Youth Partnership, or support Youth Sheffield can email youthsheffield@sheffieldfutures.org.uk for more information. For more information or to request an interview, contact the communications team at Sheffield Futures: Ceriann Rush ceriann.rush@sheffieldfutures. org.uk/07580714860 or Sadie White sadie.white@sheffieldfutures.org. uk/07818595333

Rode Pool is bordered by thick woodlands, predominantly ancient oak and mighty beech with Clint Walker trees, and in autumn, the falling leaves provide a crunchy carpet of golds, russets and yellows I think I’ve had one of my most enjoyable as you wander between the silent sentinels to sessions of the year this week, returning your peg. Once set up, it’s not uncommon to to Rode Pool in Cheshire to seek pike on share your spot with a gloriously plumed cock deadbaits. I’ve described the pool many pheasant or two as squirrels dart through the times previously, but for those who haven’t overhanging foliage, and dozens of chattering read this column before, it’s a fine estate birds potter about all around. The sound of the lake on the Stoke-on-Trent Angling Society nearby road is muted by the woodland, and card and contains some smashing tench, after a few minutes, you just get lost in the bream and roach fishing, and is home to beauty of the lake. I watched kingfishers curve some big carp, and superb pike all within across the still surface before swooping up the boundaries of a beautiful lake nestled onto a perch, swans left the lake together with amongst tree lined banks; perfect! their awkward running start, before soaring It wasn’t enjoyable because I caught lots of gracefully aloft, and moorhens and coots fish, but more because I forgot most of my clattered about busily as I sat back and waited tech, my tablet, and my phone, so I had to sit and enjoy my environment, instead of tweet, in the warm sunshine... trawl or troll as I often find myself doing I noted several pike slashing through whilst waiting for a bite. It was bliss. Like gatherings of prey fish and before long, my many anglers, I’d lost sight of why I actually braid popped out of the clip and a feisty pike go fishing, and instead have become prone to of around 7lb came to the net after picking up wasting time on the bank as a result of taking the smelt hook bait. I took a quick snap before electronic devices with me. Admittedly, I do the fish was returned (just in case it was the use them to do some actual work whilst on the only fish of the day) and reset the rig in hope bank but am also guilty of the odd word quiz once more. As the morning came to an end, or football match too! so did much of the predator indications and I After setting up my pike rods, attaching a pair sat peacefully for the rest of the day until late of fresh deadbaits (roach on one rod, smelt in the afternoon. I’d retrieved both baits to on the other as usual!) and squaring away my pitch, I rooted through my bag to try and locate check them at regular intervals before they my tablet to check my emails. When I realised were repositioned, and eventually opted to add a polyball to the roach to try and make it it was absent, that first flush of dismay was sit just above the leaf litter where it was seen quickly replaced with “What do I do now?” sometime later by a slightly bigger pike which as I noted that I had nothing to distract me. The usual brew didn’t last too long, so it was may have just made double figures. A third back to watching what else was going on… It pike was lost after my reel decided that just was a revelation. For too long, I’ve neglected then would be a good time to start slipping, to remember the very essence of fishing in and I missed a fourth run right before packing pursuit of Facebook points or Twitter followers away. and as I sat and watched the morning unfold My reel aside (it’s since been scrapped!) had it was with a growing sense of satisfaction as a lovely day. I managed to bank two fish I breathed in the morning cool and sat silently and have interest from a couple more, so it beneath the trees. was a successful visit. The best bit about the session however was forgetting my electronics which forced me to watch what was going on around me. To say I’ve been missing out is an understatement, I’ve lost track a bit, and I’m glad I’ve been able to refocus; I may try to forget my gadgets more often! WARNE PLEASED AS MILLERS PROGRESS MILLERS RECOGNISED AS SPORTS UPSTANDER AFTER TOUGH TEST IN FA CUP Millers boss Paul Warne was quick to hail the character of his side as they avoided an Emirates FA Cup upset with a strong second-half display to put pay to the challenge of National League outfit Maidenhead United. At a rain-sodden York Road, Maidenhead stunned the Millers by taking a first-half lead through Jake Cassidy but Warne’s side were boosted by the dismissal of home skipper Alan Massey for a rash challenge on Ben Wiles. The Berkshire side were punished for their indiscretion when Michael Ihiekwe levelled matters with a cool finish before sub Freddie Ladapo put the Millers ahead, soon after - with a calm turn and finish. Matt Crooks killed off the tie with a lovely finish following superb build-up from sub Jake Hastie, as Warne’s side booked their place in
the second round draw, which takes place on Monday evening. Speaking afterwards, Warne admitted that the Millers were given a huge scare by the parttime side, before they ran out worthy winners. “It was tough work and we expected nothing less,” Warne stressed. “We said at half-time don’t get frustrated and after Icky got the goal, it was plain sailing for us. “I thought we were on top before they went down to ten men. For an FA Cup tie, it had virtually everything.” The Millers’ hopes of progressing looked in the balance for a large part of the affair but Warne felt that the midfield influence of Dan Barlaser and Ben Wiles turned the tide of the game, in the Millers favour, while Ladapo earned the man-of-thematch plaudits for a superb substitute cameo, capped by a well-taken goal. “It was good for Freddie
to get a goal and it was a good confidence boost for him.” Warne added. “The two outstanding performers were Dan
mark to take the tie to a replay. “I thought we probably created the better chances in the game but that final touch just alluded us,” said Moore. “It’s a difficult place to come and the conditions were tough. We got the equaliser and come away still in the cup tie and in with a

MOORE: WE DID ENOUGH TO WIN Rovers had to come from behind to earn a replay against AFC Wimbledon in the first round of the Emirate FA Cup, but Darren Moore fell his side did enough to win the match. chance - I’m pleased but I thought we did enough to come away with a win. “We know Wimbledon will make it difficult in the replay. The job’s not done by any means and they will present another stern test for us.” Weather conditions throughout the game got steadily worse
meaning both sides were forced to go more direct and more pressure was put on set pieces. “We regrouped at half-time and we mentioned that set plays might be key,” added Moore. “The good delivery by Danny Amos and the brave header by Tom gave us no more than we deserved to get back in the game.” “Everybody is delighted for Tom because he’s probably been one of our most consistent performers since the start of the season. He’s been rock solid and that goal capped off a solid afternoon.” Moore also took a moment to praise the pitch which stood up to the inclement weather throughout the 90 minutes. “We knew the conditions would be bad because we knew the rain that we’d been experiencing in Doncaster was making its way down south,” he said. “Credit has to go to Wimbledon. Many a pitch would have struggled under those conditions, but that pitch was good.”
AT #NO2H8CRIME AWARDS
Rotherham United were delighted to see the Community Sports Trust honoured with the recognition of winning #NO2H8CRIME’s Sports Upstander Award at last night’s ceremony in London. Head of Community Jamie Noble was on hand to receive the coveted accolade which saw the Millers recognised for their efforts in the local community to stamp out hate crime. The high-profile event which was held at InterContinental Park Lane in Mayfair, London on Thursday evening saw other prizes handed out for awards including Parliamentary Upstander, Young Upstander, Business Upstander and the CPS Award. The Millers, together with the Community Sports Trust wing of the club, are constantly reinforcing the message that nobody should be subjected to any form of hate crime. Our recent home games have been dedicated to reaffirming this message too, with fixtures played in support of the Kick it Out and
Show Racism the Red Card campaigns, as well as the Hate Crime Awareness match which took place against Oxford United. RUCST work closely with a number of local charities and partners who work hard to ensure that hate crime isn’t an issue in the South Yorkshire region and beyond and we are incredibly proud to have been presented with this award. Speaking following the event in London on Thursday night, Head of Community Jamie Noble expressed his delight at the national recognition of the club’s work on the matter. “We are honoured to be presented with such a highprofile award and to receive it at such an illustrious event,” he told www.themillers.co.uk. “As many of our supporters will already know, we have done a lot of work, particularly this season surrounding the issue of hate crime and it is particularly pleasing to see those efforts culminate in us receiving this award. “It is a privilege to work so closely with all of the people that we do in and around Rotherham around the topic of hate crime and without their support, none of this would have been possible. “I would also like to thank the first team players and staff, who are always happy to support our campaigns on the matter and help to raise the profile of the important work that ourselves and associated organisations are doing in the community.”
ROVERS FA CUP 2ND ROUND DRAW MILLERS DRAW SOLIHULL MOORS IN EMIRATES FA CUP ROUND TWO The winner of the Emirates FA Cup first round replay between Rovers and AFC Wimbledon will head to Sunderland or Gillingham in the second round. Tickets for that game are available now from the Club Doncaster Box Office at the Keepmoat Stadium, bu calling 01302 762576 or going to tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk.
Rotherham United have been handed an Emirates FA Cup Second Round tie against Solihull Moors. The Millers booked their place in Monday night’s draw with a 3-1 triumph over Maidenhead United on Saturday and will continue their Emirates FA Cup journey as they travel to Damson Park to face the National League outfit in the next phase of the competition. The dates earmarked for this round of fixtures are from Friday 29th November to Sunday 1st December, but the exact details will be confirmed in due course.
LOCAL FOOTBALL County Senior Leagues with Michael Clarke
The wet weather that has disrupted the region over the past week of course stopped much of the play in the County Senior League this weekend. Two games got the go-ahead. Swinton Athletic climbed to the top of the Premier Division with a big 6-1 win over Houghton Main at Mexborough Athletic ground. Wragg League (Over 35s / Over 45s) with A. Royston
There were 4 matches still outstanding in the League Cup 1st Round to be decided with only two managing to be played. Handsworth Fc v Wickersley Old Village, Village are the Cup holders and the were determined not to give it up lightly, they beat Handsworth 6-1 wth Hartley leading the way with a Hat Trick Batchelor grabbed two and Lund one. In the other match it was 2nd Division High Green Vets against Plough Rangers and it proved to be a men versus boys with Plough going goal crazy scoring 15 to High Greens one, unfortunatly no goalscorers are to hand from the winners, Brown grabbing a consolation for the Vets. CONCENTRATION IS KEY - MONK As the Owls rued another late blow, this time against Swansea, Garry Monk has emphasised the importance of staying 100% focused in times of emotion. Having conceded two last-gasp goals at Blackburn last Saturday, Wednesday fell again to Swansea, albeit still claiming a point having overturned the visitors’ lead.
A frustrated Monk said: “I’ve been there myself, you’re caught in a wave of emotion and it’s so easy to lose even that little bit of concentration. “We didn’t do that from a set piece last week and we didn’t do it that this week. “You have to be focused, you have to stick to your tasks and we should be sat here with six points from two games instead of one. “But we will learn,
we will get better. It’s a matter of continuing the hard work and we will come back stronger. “The effort and commitment of the players today was exceptional and it’s frustrating we didn’t get the win we deserved.” Monk issued an update on Julian Börner and Sam Hutchinson, both of whom were missing from the team on Saturday.
The encouraging news is that neither player is expected to stay sidelined for long. The manager explained: “Julian has picked up a bug but that’s all it is, he will be back with the group soon. “Sam strained his calf in training, he had a scan today but it’s a grade one so that should mean seven to ten days.”

Nuhiu join up with Scotland and Kosovo respectively this week ahead of their final two European Championship qualifying games. Both teams are already guaranteed a place in the Euro 2020 play-offs in March due to finishing top of their Nations League groups, but Kosovo can still qualify for the tournament automatically. Palmer first travels to Nicosia to face Cyprus on Saturday 16 November, before returning to play Kazakhstan on home soil on Tuesday 19 November. The full back made his debut for the Scots against Kazakhstan this time last year and has since amassed three caps for Steve Clarke’s men, starting their last two games in October. Meanwhile, Kosovo’s hopes of an automatic place at Euro 2020 are still very much alive as they lie just four points behind leaders England in the group. ESTABLISHED Nuhiu’s side face the Three Lions in Pristina OVER on Sunday 17 November, but first they 100 YEARS travel to Pilsen face the Czech Republic on Thursday 14 November. It could be an historic week for the Owls striker’s nation, as they attempt to qualify for their first major international tournament.

VAR HEADLINES IN THE CAPITAL United remain unbeaten on the road in the Premier League and but for VAR the Blades would have deservedly beaten Tottenham at their new home. Chris Wilder’s side more than matched Spurs and despite falling behind netted a point courtesy of George Baldock’s first of the season. But it could and should have been all three points, after David McGoldrick’s goal was harshly chalked off. For the clash in the capital, Wilder unsurprisingly kept faith with the matchday squad that was on duty against Burnley. United were quickly on the front foot. Baldock was cynically fouled by Dier who was booked and from the resulting free-kick, Norwood’s effort forced Gazzaniga into a smart save at the expense of a corner, before Mousset’s pace won the Blades another, from which Lundstram dragged a shot wide. The visitors continued to control the opening exchanges and Gazzaniga was again called into action to deny Fleck, after McGoldrick had shown bravery in a challenge with Sanchez to fashion an opening. On 15 minutes, Spurs
should have taken the lead. The hosts advanced down the right, with Aurier finding Kane with the goal at his mercy, but under pressure from Egan, the England captain couldn’t direct his effort on target. Moments later, O’Connell found space in the opposition, but his deflected cross broke kindly for the home side and Norwood was booked having caught Dele whilst trying to halt the counter. The game was an open affair with both teams creating chances. This time it was United attacking, but Lundstram couldn’t make a clean connection from an inviting cross by Stevens. The midfielder then came even closer in in the Blades next attack. Norwood’s deep cross found O’Connell and from his pull back Lundstram struck a leftfooted effort that rattled the woodwork with Gazzaniga stranded, before Mousset saw his effort blocked on the rebound. Eight minutes before half-time, Spurs created another clear opportunity. From a Davies pass, Son got in behind the Blades and his pass was perfectly into the path of Lo
Celso, but the Argentina international dragged an effort wide of the far post. Again, it was the Blades who started the second half better and Mousset came so close to breaking the deadlock, holding off the attentions of Sanchez, before spinning his marker and powering an effort that literally was inches away from finding the far corner. At the other end, Henderson had to be alert and get his angles right to deny Son, after he had advanced through on goal. But on 58 minutes it was the hosts who broke the deadlock in fortuitous circumstances. The Blades looked to have the situation covered as Spurs advanced into the box, but some indecision allowed SON time to swivel and force the ball past Henderson. Within two minutes though, United deservedly appeared to have restored parity as MCGOLDRICK tapped home at the back post from Stevens inch perfect low cross, only for it to be denied following an extremely long VAR stoppage, with the decision going against the Blades because of Lundstram’s toe being offside in
early in the build-up. There were 12 minutes left to play when United levelled for a second time and despite another VAR check for offside, despite Basham not touching the ball, this time the goal stood! McGoldrick broke in field, fed it out wide to an advancing BALDOCK and his cross-cum-shot beat Gazzaniga and nestled nicely in the far corner, much to the delight of those of a red and white persuasion. Robinson replaced Mousset with three minutes remaining, but the Blades were grateful to Henderson who claimed the ball after Son had beaten two defenders in the box. Six minutes of added time were signalled, much of which had come from the VAR stoppages and Basham was booked for a foul which stopped Son’s momentum. The clocking was ticking down, but Henderson was at his best to deny Lucas from distance, tipping over at the expense of a corner and United survived another from the rightwing to deservedly claim a share of the spoils in the capital.
ENGLAND CALL FOR DEANO Blades stopper Dean Henderson has been called into the England senior squad for a second time. The Manchester United loanee has been added to Gareth Southgate’s latest group after Aston Villa’s Tom Heaton pulled out through injury. The Three Lions take on Montenegro on Thursday 14th November at Wembley, followed by a trip to Pristina to face Kosovo on Sunday 17th November. Both games are Euro 2020 qualifiers. Henderson is the eighth Blade to be called up for international duty for the latest round of fixtures. John Egan, Enda Stevens, David McGoldrick and Callum Robinson have been called up for Republic of Ireland. John Fleck and Oli McBurnie are included in Scotland’s squad, whilst Mo Besic has also joined up with Bosnia.
