SHEFFIELD CITY REGION DEVOLUTION DEAL AGREED The Sheffield City Region devolution deal was last week agreed by the Mayor and all four Leaders and will now proceed to public consultation. Councillor Julie Dore, Leader of Sheffield City Council, said: “We are very pleased to have got to the point where we can do this devolution deal. We have always been clear that this is the best deal for the people

of Sheffield and the wider city region, and will also be the key to opening further doors to access more funding from different sources. “This is a deal for people, in particular young people across Sheffield and South Yorkshire, and it will enable us to invest in their skills and equip them to take jobs in growing sectors. It’s about investing in

infrastructure, including transport links, and supporting local businesses to become good employers and provide jobs. But at the heart of all this is investment in the future for people who live, work and learn in Sheffield.” Statement on devolution from Mayor Dan Jarvis, Cllr Julie Dore, Cllr Steve Houghton, Mayor Ros Jones and Cllr Chris

Read: “We’re pleased to announce that the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government has confirmed he will be working with us to progress devolution. “Subject to the Sheffield City Region devolution deal being advanced to a positive conclusion, he has also agreed to progress discussions on the role and functions of a Committee of Leaders

from across Yorkshire, based on the existing Yorkshire Leaders Board. All South Yorkshire councils will have the opportunity to join any full Yorkshire devolution arrangement if they choose to do so. “We will be considering a paper at the Mayoral Combined Authority meeting on Monday 27 January and, subject to final agreement at that meeting, we will be launching a public consultation on the proposals. “This represents a significant step forward in securing additional powers and resources for our region.”

2020 IS THE YEAR TO EXPERIENCE DONCASTER AS THE NEW VISITOR GUIDE IS LAUNCHED Doncaster is looking forward to throwing a spotlight on culture and generating even more family fun and excitement as the 2020 Visitor Guide is unveiled at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. The 2020 Doncaster Visitor Guide includes all the ‘need to know’ information about the big events, vast array of attractions, where to stay and all the hidden gems Doncaster has to offer.

Pulled together by the council’s Visit Doncaster team, the guide is being launched at one of the fastest growing and most popular attractions in the UK – Doncaster’s Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Yorkshire Wildlife Park has an exciting year ahead as the first phase of its new expansion is due to open later in 2020. The 150 acre expansion includes the arrival of exciting new species

for the expanded animal reserves, a new hub for visitors with a hotel, restaurants, leisure retail and a new entrance into the Wildlife Park. Doncaster will welcome a string of new attractions in 2020. A new purpose built cinema and leisure complex will open in the town’s Civic and Cultural Quarter alongside an impressive new central library and museum

which will showcase many ‘never been seen before’ exhibits. The railway station forecourt will be transformed into a superb new public space with an impressive piece of public art that celebrates Doncaster’s rich rail and horseracing heritage. The cultural theme continues with the Mayflower 400 celebrations which recognise our connections to

the original Pilgrim Fathers, while an impressive statue honouring Doncaster’s mining heritage will become another fascinating exhibit located in the town centre. These new attractions and events will complement the raft of things to do and enjoy right across the borough in 2020. To coincide with the Visitor Guide launch, the popular Visit Doncaster card will

I once had a dream I was a catalytic convertor, I woke up exhausted. I got drunk and to impress a girl, I swallowed a bunch of scrabble tiles. My next trip to the bathroom could spell disaster. I asked a gardener which herbs were snitches... He said only thyme would tell. My wife just tripped and fell while carrying a bunch of clothes she just ironed. I watched it all unfold. If you boil a funnybone... You get a laughingstock. My friend is getting rich by taking pictures of salmon dressed in human clothes. It’s like shooting fish in apparel. Relationships are a lot like algebra. Have you ever looked at your X and wondered Y? Harry has decided to go into acting with his wife, Meghan Markle. He’ll be known as the Artist Formerly Known as Prince. My wife gave me an ultimatum. It was either her or my addiction to desserts. The decision was as easy as pie. A truck loaded with Vicks Vaporub overturned on the highway. Amazingly, there was no congestion for eight hours. What do you call a sword that doesn’t weigh much? A light saber. A century ago, two brothers claimed that it was possible to fly. They were Wright. I got bored watching the earth turn... So after 24 hours I called it a day.

Last September, BASE Hologram, the leading live event producer of cutting edge holographic live entertainment tours and attractions worldwide, announced in partnership with The Estate of Whitney E. Houston the UK dates of the upcoming hologram touring production An Evening With Whitney: The Whitney Houston Hologram Tour. The show will include all of the singer’s iconic hits including “I Will Always Love You,” “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me”), “The Greatest Love of All”, “Higher Love” and visits Sheffield City Hall on Tuesday 25th February. Presented through state-of-the-art proprietary holographic technology and combined with unmatched Broadway theatrical stagecraft, a live band, back-up singers and dancers set to digitally remastered arrangements of her classic songs, the production will be helmed by acclaimed choreographer Fatima Robinson (“Dreamgirls,” “The Academy Awards”). Named one of Entertainment Weekly’s “100 Most Creative People in Entertainment,” Robinson is known for her work choreographing massive events and directing multiple award-winning music videos working with such names as Rihanna, Kanye West, and Mary J. Blige. “Whitney Houston was a talent beyond words, and her influence and artistry transcended all boundaries,” said Brian Becker, Chairman & CEO, BASE Entertainment and BASE Hologram. “What we are creating here is a new type of theatrical concert experience designed to capture that magic. When she performed there was an unmatched level of charisma and emotion to it - that’s what we are going to bring to audiences and it’s an honor to be able to help add to her legacy with this project.” “A hologram show is all about the imagination and creating a “wow factor” that extends to an incredible experience to enjoy for years to come,” said Pat Houston, Whitney’s former Manager and President and CEO of The Estate of Whitney E. Houston. “Whitney is not with us but her music will live with us forever. We know we made the right decision partnering with BASE because they understand how

important it is to produce a phenomenal hologram. They also know that engaging her fans with an authentic Whitney experience would resonate worldwide because of the iconic status that she created over three decades. Her fans deserve nothing less because she gave nothing less than her best.” “Whitney was a musical trail-blazer and I’m extremely honored to have this opportunity to help craft this show in her honor,” said director and choreographer Fatima Robinson. “I always enjoyed watching this magnificent woman and voice on stage and to be able to play a role in recreating that and helping others have those same emotions and experience is special.” “There is a reason why it is so hard to cover a Whitney Houston track, she really was one-of-akind,” said Marty Tudor, BASE Hologram CEO of Production. “What we are doing with this tour is to celebrate her incredible life and to do that we have to get every detail right. It would be a disservice to her, her family and her fans if we weren’t anything other 100% authentic. We are privileged to have been entrusted with this responsibility and hope audiences are able to come, enjoy and get lost in the music of the industry’s most talented performers.” An Evening With Whitney: The Whitney Houston Hologram Tour will join BASE Hologram’s current touring shows “Roy Orbison & Buddy Holly: The Rock ‘N’ Roll Dream Tour” and “Callas in Concert.”

COMPACT YET POWERFUL, EASE YOURSELF INTO CYCLING WITH AN ELECTRIC FOLDING BIKE

If you’re looking for a folding eBike, you’ll be hard pressed to beat the value and quality of the Oxygen GO! Running a powerful motor, an impressive sized battery & designed in Yorkshire, the GO! is available for test ride at the South Yorkshire Electric Bike Co – 01709 886677. www.syebc.co.uk

Enter folding bikes; the logistical solution (and still probably cheaper than a course of physio). Folding bikes offer a great solution to the transportation issues typically caused by eBikes and more flexibility of weight distribution, especially when towing. As with everything there are compromises; smaller wheels means off road capabilities are reduced and we certainly wouldn’t want to be cycling all day on one. But for most folks, the electric folder will tick all the boxes. With the same power and a good size battery, a folding electric bike will get you most of the places you could ever want to be, and with a low step over height, agility needn’t compromise you either!

>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>> >>>>>>>> >>>>>>>> >>>>>>>> >>>>>>>> >>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>

You’d be hard pressed to find a long face on an E-Bike. But with the seemingly large choice of electric bikes, one could be easily left more bemused than amused. The good news is, things are actually more straightforward than they seem. Speed is legally limited in the UK. And all eBikes have varying levels of assistance, so getting you up to speed, or how hard that is, is up to you! Which then leaves you with Battery size, often the biggest cost & variable. Battery size dictates how far you can ride with assistance, but beware, being too optimistic, could be a costly exercise. Popularity of Electric Bikes in the Caravan & Motorhome world have increased tenfold in recent years. But being in the touring club throws some extra obstacles for eBikes, mainly, transportation. All this tech comes at a price, well, more accurately, a weight. The motors and batteries mean eBikes come with a noticeable weight difference, and whilst racks are capable, more often than not, getting the bikes into these systems, can end in more than breaking just a sweat!

Wedding Guide

SPEECH WRITING TIPS Be the next Winston Churchill and keep the crowds enthralled with a witty, spellbinding wedding speech. We’ve all witnessed poorly delivered wedding speeches with cringe-worthy or poorly judged and crass humour, and for just that reason, the average groom’s wedding day

is often slightly marred by the sense of fear and dread involved in standing up in front of family and friends, plus those of his new wife and embarrassing ones self. That’s why we asked Lawrence Bernstein for his advice on writing and delivering a great speech

relaxed yet enjoyable for the groom as well as his audience. Read on to discover our top speech writing tips! “Every speech requires different delivery.” Says Lawrence. “And every speaker has a different style. A great speech means thinking about exactly what you want

to say, how you want to say it and who you’re speaking to.” Lawrence warns against using generic wedding gags or pre-written speeches, insisting that each speech should be exclusive, Lawrence advises. First, break down each element of your speech – introduction, compliment the bride, thank bridesmaids’ and present their gifts etc. Once that’s achieved, you can construct each element and write phrases - not than the whole speech, onto cue cards so you can maintain eye-contact with the audience without struggling to find your place when you look back to your written on cue cards your wedding speech

shakes if you’re nervous

when performing it. “You’ll be more natural when you’re not reading straight off a page.” Says Lawrence, who has appeared on national radio giving his opinion world famous public speeches and coached Stephen Fry. “Practice reading it and take your wedding speech slowly – if your speech takes 12 minutes, not nine, it doesn’t matter at all.” Other tips for natural delivery include emphasising key words – again, easier when reading from cue cards rather than a speech written out in full from an A4 sheet – and the use of gesticulations and changes of inflections to add relaxation and ‘normality’ into your delivery. Finally, don’t get drunk beforehand – Dutch courage can be counterproductive if it affects your delivery - or be put off by heckles; “You can pre-prepare a couple of witty responses to heckles in advance.” Lawrence advises.

CRAIG’S STORY Having started smoking at the age of 15 with peers from school I have now been smoking for 26 years. Smoking up to 25 per day I decided I needed to stop and for the sake of my health, fitness and finance and buying a house the time was right to QUIT now. I attended one to one appointments

with Yorkshire Smokefree and provided me with excellent support. I quit with the help of Yorkshire Smoke Free and champix. I found all the staff very helpful in supporting me. Another big help was changing my routine, helped me QUIT and stay smokefree. Since stopping smoking and can already see the benefits, I breathe easier and have so much more energy. Since Stopping smoking I have saved money and even have money left over at the end of each month, something that never happened when I was a smoker, this is what I love about not smoking ! All the money I used to spend on cigarettes is now going towards me buying a house and paying for all the fee’s involved ! If I could back in time to my younger years I would definitely be telling myself to put that first cigarette out !

PROG ROCK LEGENDS LINE UP FOR SHEFFIELD FESTIVAL And legends don’t come any bigger than Yes keyboard wizard – songwriter – producer – TV and radio presenter and author Rick Wakeman. With 90 solo albums to his name, Rick continues to lead the way in British prog, having released his latest creation “Piano Odyssey” in 2018. HRH are humbly honoured to welcome a genuine rock icon to HRH Prog IX and Rick is bringing his full band to the two venues next March – the O2 Academy in Sheffield and the prestigious Shepherds Bush Empire in London – so expect a set brim full of music from a career spanning

6 decades plus perhaps progressive takes on a rock classic or two. The second headliner is none other than Mr Hawkwind himself – Dave Brock. This “Audience With” set delves into a vault of music and stories we can only describe as “Brockworld”. From the busking and banter from the dawn of Hawkwind to playing some gems from his 6 solo albums, which have never really seen a live audience to moving into unchartered Hawkwind territory, this is a must for all true Hawkwind & Prog fans alike. As if two legends of rock aren’t enough – two more huge names

in prog are heading to HRH Prog IX. They have John Lees’ Barclay James Harvest who are continuing to carry the torch for the band that released no less than 10 albums in the 1970s, featuring the trademark Mellotron keyboard sound beloved of many a progressive rock fan. Focus fly in from Holland to join us next March. Best known of course for their 1971 hit “Hocus Pocus”, the guys are still very much active having released their latest album “Focus 11” earlier this year to critical acclaim. All the way from Lithuana, and making a return to HRH Prog, are The Skys. Having released their latest –

and brilliant – album “Automatic Minds” last year. Also announced for HRH Prog IX are German’s The Spacelords who bring their wonderful space rock set to London and Sheffield. Nth Ascension have caught the prog community’s attention with their latest album “Stranger Than Fiction” released last May. French based Franck Carducci makes his HRH Prog debut – and lists Pink Floyd, Genesis and Supertramp amongst his influences – perfect for us! Bram Stoker are having a resurgence having been best known for their 1972 prog epic “Heavy Rock

Spectacular”. The Room will feature their new line-up – currently making waves with their latest release “Caught by the Machine.” Cambridge based psych-space rockers Psychic Lemon round out the incredible line-up for HRH Prog IX. Last year HRH Prog 8 at Shepherds Bush Empire Sold out in 4 weeks and Sheffield in 4 months after it was added. HRH Prog – Weekend O2 Academy Sheffield Saturday 28 March 2020 - 1.00pm Tickets available from the Sheffield O2 Academy Website

FREE WORKSHOPS WITH PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS ANNOUNCED FOR DONCASTER TEACHERS A series of free monthly workshops have been announced to inspire Doncaster primary school teachers to put singing at the heart of their schools. These enjoyable Singing Champions workshops, which are led by Doncaster Music Education Hub, provide Doncaster teachers with an exciting opportunity to collaborate with professional musicians, build confidence in their teaching, and create high-quality singing experiences for their pupils. The expert musicians delivering the workshops include Janet Wood, a singersongwriter with 40 years’ experience in choir leadership; and Alice Needham, a talented performer and member of critically acclaimed band The Moods. These practical sessions

will give teachers first-hand experience of the enormous benefits singing brings, and invigorate them to share their love of singing with pupils. Singing Champions will also give teachers free access to excellent resources, tools and techniques to engage pupils in singing. Musician Janet Wood said: “At the end of a busy school day, we want to help primary school teachers relax and have fun. “Singing Champions is a great way to do just that. We’re looking forward to welcoming teachers for these free continuing professional development workshops.” Singing Champions takes place on Wednesdays from 4 – 5.30pm (5 February and 11 March at The Point on South Parade, and 22 April at Town Fields Primary School).

On 5 February: join Ginny Vernon and learn a range of songs to support the curriculum; on 11 March: Alice Needham will reveal simple ways to ease your class into musical harmony; and on 22 April: learn the songs for this year’s Sing Out with Janet Wood and Ginny Vernon, and try out the moves with dancer Sarah Belk. More dates will be added to The Point’s website for sessions after the Easter school holiday. Teachers are welcome to attend any session, and don’t need to attend all of them. To book your place, visit: www.thepoint.org. uk/whats-on. To find out more, please email jwood@thepoint. org.uk or phone 01302 341662.

Raise Money for your Pub, Club or Good Cause!

As Mars your ruler aligns with ethereal Neptune you may have plans, but putting them into action can be another matter, as you might be more inclined to help others than help yourself. By the weekend though, one desire can stand out from the rest Aries. Call for more news and advice…

Despite your best intentions, you may find yourself giving way to someone and helping them out, even if it does mean making a sacrifice Libra. Thinking of saying no? It could leave you feeling guilty. Yet if you can be strong, you will have set a firmer boundary. Call for more advice…

You may have a strong resolve to sort out an issue or work on a plan, but could find that friends seem to siphon away your energy. Not on purpose, but by tempting you with invites or perhaps calling you. Stand firm and resolve to complete those key tasks first. Call for more advice…

Before you get too involved in a creative project or new liaison, it might help to consider the cost Scorpio. This is not only in financial terms, but also time and other resources. Is it worth it? The Quarter Moon in Taurus can be a milestone concerning a home-based project. Call for more…

If you aren’t sure what you want to accomplish Gemini, then no amount of assistance from others will help. By the weekend, Venus’s tie with Pluto can enable you to zero in on a desire that coincides with a sparkling opportunity, and you might truly relish this. Call for more news…

Ready to get moving on a plan? A family member could seem to undermine your intentions. And because you don’t want to upset them, you might give way. If you can wait until the end of the week, they may be more amenable. With the right approach they might even be supportive. Call for more…

While daydreaming can be pleasant, it could also be the reason why you don’t get as much done as you would like. With potent Mars angling towards hazy Neptune, you may be tempted by the path of least resistance, but if you can get a few items completed you’ll feel better. Call for more…

As jovial Jupiter continues in your sign, it can alert you to opportunities that might bring about a breakthrough. Considering the cost of a budding romance or new project? With a Quarter Moon in your leisure zone, mulling this over could lead to a decision. Call for more news and advice…

The Sun and Mercury in your sector of relating, can inspire you to connect with others and to work together as a team. Find energy levels dipping? Don’t push yourself, use this chance to recharge. Get ready over the weekend, as a lucrative opportunity might come your way. Call for more…

This is a great opportunity to connect with others on your wavelength. And yet with a hazy angle between Mars and Neptune, you could find yourself doing more than your fair share in a group project, whether in terms of effort or money. If so, it may be time to address this. Call for more…

While you may be keen to get moving on a household project, you could find someone’s lack of enthusiasm quite draining. Give it a rest for now, as in a few days things can take a much livelier turn. There are romantic opportunities showing too Virgo. Call for more news and advice…

You could find yourself in a soulful mood, and one in which you might not feel as motivated as you have been. Don’t force the pace as it could so easily change by the weekend. Have no option but to push ahead? Simplifying your schedule could help you conserve energy Pisces. Call for more…

ANGLER’S CORNER

with Clint Walker

I don’t mind admitting that the last few weeks on the bank have been a struggle. I’ve had several sessions with the deadbaits, intent on adding to my tally of quality pike captures from a variety of my local club waters but have failed miserably. I have no idea what the issue is, whether it’s down to the air temperature, water temperature, air pressure, feeding patterns, storms or indeed if it’s just me, but I can’t seem to snag a croc for love nor money! As a result of my dismal efforts, I’ve been thankful of a few opportune hours with the lure kit between rain showers which have saved my sanity… I’ve recently upped the size of my lures in search of a better stamp of fish. I know it sounds obvious, the old adage that a ‘bigger bait means bigger fish’ but I’ve made a concerted effort to move away from the tiny lure theory (anything will eat it) and see if it makes a difference. Currently, I’m using the ZMan range of products including the highly recommended ‘Shroom’ jig heads, to which I’ve been attaching Finesse TRD or CrawZ lures Ned rig style to try and tempt a few fish. I enjoy the delicacy of this method, and after persevering, have found that although sometimes the number of fish actually caught decreased, the size of capture did increase; obviously using a 2.75 inch lure means that some fish just can’t justify an attack, but the majority of fish that do are certainly worth seeing! The beauty of lure fishing is that it is relatively simple to set up and that almost instant results can be achieved which makes it a great way to get into fishing on a reasonable budget with a good chance of success. It’s also far more active than ‘normal’ methods allowing the angler to cover more ground which in winter can be a real edge in pursuit of predators. My outfit is as basic as you can get, a Sonik Magna rod and matching 3000 series reel loaded with 6lb braid to which I tie a four foot

length of 5.6lb fluorocarbon to act as an invisible leader, then add a Shroom jig head and slide on my chosen colour of lure. That’s it, nothing complicated, simplicity at it’s best which makes it a really easy technique to enjoy. I can take the aforementioned set up to any river, canal, pond or lake and find somewhere to fish, targeting likely spots before moving on, covering plenty of ground and opening up endless possibilities. Recently, I tackled four venues in the space of four hours, catching nothing on the River Dove, nothing on a nearby pool, two small pike from the third venue, then bagging up at the final spot with fish after fish finding the net, so it does need a bit of faith sometimes, but if fish are feeding, then you’ll get bites I promise! My latest outing saw me atop the floating jetties at Rudyard Lake in Staffordshire, standing in the swirling rain and blustery gusts of Storm Brendan, sharing the platforms with three other anglers. Of the trio, two were livebaiting for pike, sharing only two perch and two pike between them, the third angler had caught no pike, and was biding his time trying to catch roach on the quivertip. I saw him catch only a single fish… After a brief chat, I gently lobbed out my lure, watched the braid unwind until it went slack as the lure hit the bottom, then proceeded to twitch the rubber tempter back towards me in a series of tiny hops. Bang! The rod tip dipped and the first perch, a fish of about 8oz put a good fight on my light gear before entering the waiting net. Other eyes swivelled surreptitiously in my direction as a further four perch quickly followed, before one angler approached to ask me what I was using. I’ll show anyone my rig if it’s working, and despite the fact that my fellow didn’t have any suitable kit with him, a quick go with my rod saw him land two perch in succession; point proved. Within the hour, the weather had deteriorated appallingly, with rain battering down, and wind speeds increasing, but I was still catching so I carried on as two of my compatriots packed up and retired, and the third downed tools to go for

a warming cuppa in the lakeside café from which he continued to observe my fishing. After thawing a bit, he returned to the fray, attempting to tackle his quivertip up as a makeshift dropshot rod. It can be done, but dedicated rods make it much easier to feel tentative bites and unfortunately, his worm baits surprisingly attracted very little interest from any perch beneath us. My lure on the other hand continued to pick off quality fish although by now, I was working hard to maintain contact with my lure due to the wind, and had to vary my retrieve enormously to provoke any reaction; pauses of up to fifteen seconds between twitches saw far more bites than an earlier quicker retrieve… As the skies darkened further and the rain continued to slash down, I considered packing up. The light was fading fast and as I slowly worked the lure back towards me, I hit another snag, prompting me to put a bend in the rod and twang the braid at the reel to release the hook. Then the snag moved! A resounding thud kicked at the other end and I quickly realised that a pike had snaffled the bait and wasn’t happy with me trying to extract it from the depths! After a few minutes, I managed to get the fish to the surface, noting a red mark on it’s flank as it twisted to evade me and the waiting net. As I crouched to slip the net under the pike, with a final roll and splash and it escaped, the

hook pinging out of its mouth as the braid went slack! I was disappointed as it had been a quality fish of around 10lbs, offering a superb fight on my light rod and I was somewhat crestfallen as it slid away into the depths….it was surely almost time to leave… One last cast in the gathering gloom quickly became three or four, and on the final attempt, my lure found yet another obstruction on the lakebed… Once again, I twanged the lure to try and release it, but amazingly, it moved off slowly again! Another pike! This time the hook stayed put and a tense few minutes saw me miss the fish with the first wave of the net, but quickly envelop it on the second before lifting it onto the waiting mat. As I parted the net to get at the hook, I was amazed to recognise the same red mark on the flank, meaning that the fish had been hooked twice within the space of five minutes, both times on the same lure! By this time, the fishery manager had arrived to see my prize and graciously took the trophy shot, a long lean fish quickly captured for posterity before it was released gently back to its lair. As I started to pack away my gear, the other angler had really struggled and reported to the fishery manager that I had “had all the luck” and I couldn’t disagree. A few hours had seen me land perhaps forty odd good perch with a bonus croc to finish and if that’s what good luck is, then I’ll happily take that! If you are having a run of blanks or poor sessions whilst fishing with static baits and haven’t yet tried lure fishing, then perhaps now is the time to pop into the local tackle shop, pick up an inexpensive new set up and hit the banks. I guarantee you’ll see more of your surroundings, find out more about your venue, and have a lot of fun whilst fishing… you might just get lucky too! Tight lines…

A GOOD DAY’S WORK - WARNE Rotherham United boss Paul Warne assessed his side’s display after a 3-0 victory over Bristol Rovers at AESSEAL New York Stadium. With the score deadlocked at the interval, the Millers remained patient and were rewarded with two quick-fire goals in the second half as they stunned the Gas through Kyle Vassell and Michael Smith. “I thought Bristol Rovers were really good,” said Warne. “We sort of went away from what we’re

good at, first-half. Then I was pleased to get them in at halftime where we tried to re-address what we do. When we’re like that, we’re unpayable at times. There was a good pace and energy about us in the second half and I’m pleased to come away with another win. “It went away from our identity in the first-half. But then I thought our second half performance justified the win. “Chieo (Ogbene) put in a couple of great balls. First-half, we

were good in parts but not overall. Bristol Rovers came here with a threat as well and they worked really hard out of possession. They made it difficult for us but I thought the longer the game went on, the stronger we became. “We made some subs and freshened it up. For both our strikers to get a goal is great, and the third goal came from Freddie’s good play. Most of the lads can go home pleased with their day’s work.” Having set up the first two, Ogbene got himself on the scoresheet as he notched his first Millers strike, reacting to a spilled Freddie Ladapo shot. Warne continued: “At 2-0, with ten or five minutes left, if they get one – in

fairness they did have a couple of scraps – at 2-1 at home makes it nervous. I was just wishing the clock away. “To come away with a clean sheet, to score three and be as good as we were secondhalf gives us hope going into the next game. “I’m obsessed with recruiting really good people. I ask a lot of them and train them really hard. I shout at them to make them run all the time! They’re a really good group and people know I’d do anything for them; in fairness, they’d do anything for the staff! We’re on a good little run and long may it continue. “I’ll keep the group here and I can’t see anyone leaving. If I need to add one or two, I’ll do that as well.”

MOORE LOOKS FOR QUICK REACTION Darren Moore felt Rovers were unfortunate to be edged out by the odd goals as they lost for the first time in four games against Coventry City on Saturday. Jordan Shipley’s firsthalf strike was enough for the Sky Blues to end Rovers’ 100 per cent record of wins and clean sheets in 2020, but Moore says he won’t be getting too low following the defeat in Sky Bet League One. “I can have no complaints really, Coventry were a good side who played with

a lot of fluidity and a good attacking style, they got the goal and then managed to hold on and that’s what’s shaved it for them and we couldn’t get back into the game,” he said. “They’ve had a lot of success over the past couple of years, they’ve built on that too, I was largely pleased with our performance, they gave everything out there but the goal shaded it, we’ve had two tight games with them this season. “We had our half moments in the game, we had a couple of

things that just didn’t go our way and that could have helped us get back in the game, I don’t get too high and I don’t get too low when things don’t go our way though.” Rovers head to the North East to face Sunderland on Friday as they look to get back to winning ways immediately, and Moore will be looking for hard work on the training ground in the build-up. “We always want to try and raise our levels and be better with the ball, I still feel there’s a real identity about us, our

work off the ball was excellent in parts, we want to try and build up that momentum again very quickly,” he said. “We’ve worked as the weeks have gone by, we’ll keep working hard on all aspects of the game and that won’t stop, we’ve been winning games and now we’ve lost once we’ll look to build again. “We know we have another tough game coming up in a few days up at Sunderland, we’ll go away and analyse this game and then move on quickly and get ready to go again.”

WATSON PLEASED WITH WORK EXPERIENCE AT STAVELEY

spent the Christmas period on work experience with the Northern Counties East League team and he felt he learnt a lot from manager Brett Marshall and his players. He said: “It was a different experience with Staveley. There were new faces and it was good seeing different views of how to play. “The move wasn’t necessarily about getting game time, but it was more aimed at me

developing and seeing different views. Until then I hadn’t been in a first team dressing room environment so it was good. “The mentality was different compared to playing in the U18s division because the set-up was more about winning at all costs and looking at more of the development side. You could see people’s mindsets and how they take on games as well. All that made the experience

more valuable. Watson hopes his hard work will help him secure a professional deal at the football club come the end of the season. He added: “Hopefully I do get a deal and I can take all the development that I learnt at Staveley into my pro career. “I don’t know what the coaches are thinking but all I can do is work my hardest and keep believing that I can get there.”

U18 striker Jack Watson says he learnt a lot from his time on loan at non-league side Staveley Miners Welfare. The second-year scholar

LOCAL FOOTBALL County Senior Leagues with Michael Clarke

A busy weekend in the County Senior League was drawn slightly short, due to the first postponements of 2020. Wet weather did not dampen too much though, as 14 games took place, with an especially packed fixture list in the Premier Division. Premier Division Goals from Justin Greenwood and Curtis Wilkinson were enough to give league leaders Swinton Athletic a 2-0 win away against Jubilee Sports. It is 10 consecutive league victories for Swinton, who have only conceded seven goals in that time. There was further good news for Swinton, as second placed AFC Penistone Church were held to a 1-1 draw at home against High Green Villa. And there was even further good news for them, as third placed Wombwell Main were beaten by second bottom Burngreave FC at Firvale Academy. Swinton’s lead at the top is now six points. Goals from Steven Bennett, Jamie Heavey, Neil Johnson (2) and Ashley Mills gave Grimethorpe LLUK FC a 5-0 home win over Wakefield AFC. Grimethorpe are certainly a side to keep an eye on, they move move into fifth place with this win, their third in a row in 2020.Dodworth Miners Welfare climb into fourth place, with a 5-3 win against bottom side Frecheville Davys. Dodworth are only three points behind second placed Penistone. Defending champions North Gawber Colliery drew 2-2 away against fellow mid-table side Ecclesfield Red Rose 1915. Premier Division Carribean Sports travelled to play Rossington Main and were delighted with the way the team were playing and with just 10 mins remaining were leading by 3-1 with goals fromWillis, Birch and Stocks, Murray scoring for the home side. WE’LL COME FIGHTING BACK In the aftermath of Saturday’s heavy defeat at Hillsborough, Garry Monk has full belief that his side will come fighting back. Wednesday fell way below their levels at the weekend on the back of two outstanding performances away from home in the victories over Brighton and Leeds. But with an FA Cup fourth round tie away at QPR on Friday to prepare for, the players are back in at Middlewood Road and working to put things right in the capital.

“I have to keep balance, even when you feel the emotion in the moment, and understand that there is football to be played and work to be done,” Monk said. “We have to get ready for that in this week coming. “There is a lot of work to be done and everyone knows that and it’s my job to work through it, all the ups and downs and things that come my way and put us on a course. “Quite rightly so, the anger and all the other emotions that go with it will come our way and of course, the criticism, because we

deserve that. “We have to see through all of that and work our way through it. “We know what we are capable of, we’ve shown what we can do. The main thing is to not self-inflict and that is something that needs work. “One thing we will do is stick together and I’ll tell you that for sure. We will stick together. “It doesn’t feel like it now but we are in a good position, we will take the criticism on the chin and come fighting back. “I’ve got full belief that’s what we’ll do.”

wins away from home with clean sheets to boot. But Wednesday were unrecognisable

against Rovers and duly punished. Monk said: “It’s two steps forward and one step back with that performance and result. “As far as I’m concerned it was the first ten minutes that cost us. “We didn’t take our opportunities to move forward, we turned around or moved sideways and you can’t do that in the Championship. “We’ve been punished

in the worst possible way. “It’s hurts, it hurts a lot, but one thing for sure is that we will stick together as a group.” Monk was unmoved by suggestions that the red card issued to Massimo Luongo decided the destiny of the points. Luongo was dismissed in the first half for a challenge on Lewis Travis. He added: “It was 100% not a red card

and we will 100% appeal it. He’s not aggressive, he’s not late and there’s no malice. “It changed the complex of the game but I am not using that as an excuse because we let ourselves down today. “It’s a bad day but we have to remember we are in a healthy position in the table so we have to take this into the training next week.”

BLADES CLUB STATEMENT 2019/20 Senior officials at the Club have been informed that the Court of Appeal, Civil Division of England and Wales, has issued its decision to refuse Sheffield United Limited (SUL) permission to appeal the judgment of the High Court of Justice, Business and Property Courts of England and Wales made on 16th September 2019. The judgment required SUL, a company controlled by Mr Kevin McCabe, to sell its shares in Blades Leisure Limited (Blades), the

parent of Sheffield United Football Club Ltd, to UTB, LLC, a company owned by H.R.H. Prince Abdullah bin Mosa’ad bin Abdulaziz Al Sa’ud. The Court of Appeal considered there to be no good grounds for allowing an appeal by Mr McCabe’s SUL. The decision brings an end to over two years of contentious litigation over the ownership of Sheffield United. The Board is delighted that any lingering uncertainty about the Club’s future ownership is at an end and that

DEFENDER BOOSTS BLADES SQUAD Jack Robinson of Nottingham Forest becomes United’s second signing of the January transfer window, penning a twoand-a-half-year deal at Bramall Lane, with the Blades paying an undisclosed fee for his services. Chris Wilder has bolstered his defensive options with the signing of a proven Championship defender. Jack Robinson of Nottingham Forest becomes United’s second signing of the January transfer window, penning a two-and-a-half-year deal at Bramall Lane, with the Blades paying an undisclosed fee for his services. Speaking of the signing of Robinson, boss Wilder remarked: “Jack’s got a great pedigree and he will make our squad stronger.

SMITH MAKES ROCHDALE SWITCH Tyler Smith has been recalled from his loan spell at Bristol Rovers. But the 21-year-old will head straight back out to League One, to join Rochdale with immediate effect, on-loan until the end of the season. For the record, the striker scored five times in 28 appearances in all competitions for the Gas, last featuring on Boxing Day.

everyone at Sheffield United can now fully focus on what has, to date, been a fantastic first season back in the Premier League. The Board is also delighted that an agreement, in principal, has been

reached with SUL and the Scarborough Group, also controlled by Mr McCabe, over the transfer to the Club of the freehold of Bramall Lane (together with the long leasehold interests in the

Copthorne Hotel and Enterprise Centre), plus Shirecliffe Academy, the Junior Development Centre at Crookes and certain parcels of land within the ‘Bramall Lane footprint’. Prince Abdullah

expects the transfer of the properties to be completed within a matter of months and looks forward in particular to the Club being unified with its beloved home, Bramall Lane.

“But he isn’t just coming in to make the numbers up, it’s a specific position in our system and we feel he is the best option for us at this time. “Jack can comfortably play in a couple of roles and we’re delighted to add him to the group. He’s got a fantastic attitude and he’s ambitious to earn a place in the team.” Warrington-born Robinson is the second youngest player to have played for Liverpool, making his debut aged 16 years and 250 days. During his time at Anfield, Robinson made three league appearances, but furthered his development with loan spells at Wolves and Blackpool, starting 33 times in the Championship whilst at Bloomfield Road. In August 2014, the versatile operator joined QPR, but spent the 2014/15 campaign at Huddersfield Town where he made 30 league appearances, prior to returning to Loftus Road. Robinson went on to feature over 40 times for the R’s, before joining Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2018. The 26-year-old has remained a regular in his time at the City Ground, despite numerous managerial changes. Robinson joins Jack Rodwell as the new arrivals so far in the January transfer window.

MOLLIE GREEN JOINS THE BLADES ON LOAN FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON Sheffield United have added Manchester United midfielder Mollie Green to their squad on loan for the rest of the season. The 22-year-old arrives off the back of helping Casey Stoney’s side earn promotion from the FA Women’s Championship last season, where Green’s impressive 13 goals from midfield were pivotal in her team’s success. Green previously played in the FA Women’s Super League for both Liverpool and Everton as a youngster before joining Man United for the start of their first season in the Championship. A former England youth team player, Green joins Aimee Palmer as the second player to join on loan from Man United this season, the latter already impressing during the first half of the campaign.

Green brings plenty of quality to an already quality Blades midfield and she can’t wait to get going as she looks for her second promotion in a row from the league. “I’m buzzing. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a little while now so to get it over the line is something I’m delighted with. I want to get back on the pitch, show what I can do again and I think Sheffield United is a really good place to do that.” Manager Ward is also thrilled to be able to bring another quality player to the club ahead of a big second half of the season. “Mollie is proven at this level and adds not only quality but professionalism and experience that’s needed in a run in, so we’re obviously delighted to have got this over the line.”
