LOCAL FOOTBALL & SPORT // 7 DAY TV LISTINGS // 50+ NEWS & ADVICE
LIVE MUSIC RETURNS FROM AUGUST 1ST There was great news for the pubs, clubs and live music venues of South Yorkshire last week when the Prime Minister announced that, from August 1st, live music would once again be allowed indoors. Indoor venues will have to be “Covid-secure”. It means audiences will remain socially distanced at all times, with a raft of other measures expected
to be implemented for dedicated venues, such as regular deep cleans, reduced capacities, online ticketing and staggered performance schedules. The move to allow indoor gigs in England represents a move into Stage Four of the government’s previously issued roadmap. We have been at Stage 3 for a short while, allowing for
outdoor performances. However the Government have moved quickly to the next stage, with pilots already taking place for orchestras and larger performances. The Government also announced that they are working towards reopening sporting venues sometime in October great news for fans of our local sports teams, who have been obliged to
watch their teams on TV (in the case of football) or whose sport hasn’t been played at all during this period. However the news is great for our local smaller venues where typically solo artists, duo and bands will find it much easier to comply with the requirements, and venues which have already re-opened will generally find there is little extra provision to be made before allowing artists back on stage. We understand a number of venues are busy making arrangements to present performances from the
very first opportunity, and of course we will be bringing details for our readers as soon as they become available. It’s been a long time coming, and extremely frustrating for the hundreds of local artists who have been forced to sit and wait for the situation to improve but the Prime Minister’s announcement that he is aiming for a return to normal by November - however optimistic gives some hope to both performers and venues who have struggled to survive through this period.

Sheffield’s RLWC2021 fixtures revealed The Rugby League World Cup 2021 tournament organisers have this week revealed the much-anticipated fixture schedule for what promises to be the biggest and best World Cup in the history of the sport, as the men’s, women’s and wheelchair teams all compete at the same time in a major sporting first. Sheffield will be hosting nine fixtures at RLWC2021, with the English Institute of Sport playing a key role in the wheelchair tournament. The full fixture list for Sheffield is as follows: MENS – at Bramall Lane • England vs Greece – Saturday 6th November, 14.30pm WHEELCHAIR – at English Institute of Sport Sheffield • France vs Wales – Friday 12 November, 11.00am • Scotland vs USA – Friday 12 November, 13.30pm • France vs Scotland – Monday 15 November, 17.00pm • Wales vs USA – Monday 15 November, 19.30pm • France vs USA – Thursday 18 November, 11.00am • Wales vs Scotland – Thursday 18 November, 13.30pm • Semi-Final (Teams TBC) – Sunday 21 November, 12.00pm • Semi-Final (Teams TBC) – Sunday 21 November, 14.30pm
In June, it was revealed that Sheffield will be the team training base for the men’s squad from Greece, and wheelchair sides from France, Wales, Scotland and USA. Councillor Mary Lea, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport & Leisure at Sheffield City Council, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be hosting the only England men’s game in Yorkshire, against Greece who will enjoy their first experience of the tournament here in Sheffield. And, with games including current champions France, against third ranking Wales, the wheelchair group matches look set to be full of anticipation and tension. “As well as being one of the most inclusive and diverse events ever hosted in England, the tournament is on course to be the biggest and most viewed Rugby League World Cup ever. The fixtures announced today, certainly support that here in Sheffield, where we expect enthusiastic crowds, inspiring moments and a long lasting legacy of Rugby League in the city. “The pandemic has had a huge impact on sporting competition and I know that come Autumn 2021 we will all be ready to celebrate this tournament with excitement, and deliver our part in this world-class event with pride.” Jon Dutton, RLWC2021 Chief Executive, said: “This is a huge moment for the tournament and for fans in our host cities and towns as we reveal the full fixture schedule. “The tournament has been gaining momentum over recent months and fans can now look forward to being part of this unique global event. With match dates and locations confirmed, the excitement will only intensify. “RLWC2021 will bring together the very best that the sport
has to offer, and you can see from the schedule that there is no end of world class, not-to-be-missed matches, across all three tournaments. “It Is an exciting day for all our Rugby League fans and communities across England who will be proud and brilliant hosts to the travelling nations as together we deliver the biggest and best Rugby League World Cup to date.” England’s game against Greece, held at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane stadium, will be the only England Men’s game in Yorkshire. Stephen Bettis, CEO at Sheffield United, said: “We are honoured that our historic Bramall Lane stadium has been selected to host such a prestigious fixture. We are pleased to be able to work with Sheffield City Council to bring such an attractive game to the Steel City and hope Rugby League fans, plus those who may not yet have watched the sport live in Sheffield, come along and enjoy what will be a memorable occasion.” Sheffield’s EIS will play a huge part in the wheelchair tournament, with 8 games in total, including the exciting semi final double-header. With 61 fixtures over a six-week period the tournament will showcase a festival of world class sporting action. The dates, venues and kick-off times for each of the three tournaments is now confirmed and available to view at www.RLWC2021.com Please visit www.RLWC2021.com for more information, for details on how to sign up to receive ticket alerts and all the latest news first.

SNODGRASS My friend was really proud of his British heritage until he found out that his great grandfather was from Transylvania. Now he can’t even look at himself in the mirror. Yesterday I read an article about the dangers of drinking too much... It scared the hell out of me, so today I’ve decided never to read it again. My friend Jack claims he can communicate with vegetables. Jack and the beans talk. Took my pet fish to the chippy the other day, I asked “Do you do fish cakes?” “Yep we do.” “Good cos it’s his birthday tomorrow.” My wife told me I was immature. So I told her to get out of my fort. Last week I was bored, so I decided to swap around the labels on my wifes spice rack. So far, she hasn’t noticed. Mark my words though, the thyme is cumin. I tried catching fog the other day Mist. Why do cows wear a bell? Because their horns don’t work. Man: “Doctor I feel like a supermarket” Doctor: “How long have you felt like this?” Man: “Ever since I was Lidl.” I was in a band during the 80s called The Prevention. We were better than the Cure. My wife is mad at the fact that I have no sense of direction. So I packed up my stuff and right. To keep fit, I’ve taken up quiet tennis. It’s like regular tennis, but without the racquet.

Coronavirus Business Grants Scheme extended
LEGAL SERVICES
Have you got Vibration White Finger?
For information on representations, please see www.sheffield.gov.uk/licensinginforesidents
Sheffield City Council has opened applications for its Coronavirus Business Grants Scheme for a second time, giving more businesses who have not received any other support the opportunity to apply for grants between £1000 and £10,000, depending on the size of the business. The eligibility criteria of this scheme will also now be expanded to include businesses with a rental value of up to £25,000 (previously £15,000). Applications will be open for two weeks and will close at midnight on Friday 31st July. The Coronavirus Business Grants Scheme has been put in place to provide financial aid to businesses that have relatively high fixed property costs and are not eligible for other Government grants. As with the first round of applications, the scheme will predominately aim to support businesses that would have been eligible for a business rate grant if they had been the named ratepayer on their premises. As well as opening the scheme to businesses with a rental value of up to £25,000, the second round of the scheme will also accept applications from self-employed individuals who have received very little from the Self Employment Scheme (SEIS) as well as meeting all the other criteria. Grants of up to £1,000 will be available.
INCLUDING:
FITTERS ELECTRICIANS MECHANICS ENGINEERS
£3m of Government funding will be used to deliver the scheme, following the distribution of £2.5m to businesses in the first round of applications in June.

Businesses and organisations applying for the grant must be able to evidence that they are trading from the premises they are making an application for. Councillor Mazher Iqbal, Cabinet Member for Business and Investment at Sheffield City Council, said: “As our retail and hospitality sector begins to reopen its doors, we know that there are still many businesses in Sheffield who still face uncertainty and have really struggled in the recent months of lockdown. We have listened to this and have therefore expanded the eligibility of this scheme to support businesses with a much higher rental value, which will open up the grants to many more people. “Unfortunately we are still constrained by limited funding from Government which is reflected in the values of the grants we have set, but I hope that this will go some way to help many more of our businesses who have faced huge challenges during this pandemic. “Applications for this scheme are only open for two weeks, so I’m encouraging all businesses eligible for the grant to apply as soon as possible via the Sheffield City Council website.” More information on the full eligibility criteria for the Coronavirus Business Grants Scheme and the online application form can be found at www.sheffield.gov. uk/discretionarygrants. Businesses who were not eligible in round one of applications that are now eligible in round 2 because of the broadened criteria will need to reapply. The Council is contacting these businesses directly to advise them of this. Businesses can also contact Business Sheffield on 0114 224 5000 or email businesssheffield@sheffield. gov.uk for further guidance and to speak to a Business Advisor.

Reopening of sport, exercise and leisure in Sheffield animal farm re-opens are in place before facilities reopen, but some specific issues mean that not all will reopen in time for holidays from 25 July. Activities will be limited and
As leisure and fitness venues across the country prepare for reopening from 25 July, Sheffield City Council is working with its leisure providers to make sure reopening happens safely and that residents in all areas of the city can access some facilities. The council is working to reopen public facilities, not only when it is safe to do so, but also when it is affordable. The authority is supporting UK Active and Sport England, in highlighting the need for urgent financial support for the leisure industry from the Government, to ensure that reopening of public facilities in Sheffield is financially viable. Sheffield, as well as local authorities across the country, faces difficult decisions about the venues and activities that will need to remain closed until Government restrictions are lifted sufficiently to enable the sustainable operation of the city’s valued public facilities. Without a Government support package many facilities, including leisure and entertainment, will not be able to reopen until the crisis is over. The council is developing a reopening strategy that prioritises the needs of residents and that will ensure wherever someone lives in the city they will be able to take part in some form of wellbeing activity. Greater use of Sheffield’s parks and open spaces will be encouraged throughout the summer and early autumn, as well as working closely with leisure partners to provide digital sessions for those residents who are unable to get out or feel more comfortable exercising at home for the time being. Councillor Mary Lea, Cabinet Member for Sheffield City Council, said: “Whilst it’s great news for the city’s leisure and fitness providers, and for the wellbeing of our residents, the reopening of gyms and leisure centres presents many challenges to overcome. Protecting our vulnerable and reducing the spread of coronavirus is our utmost priority, as well as the health and safety of staff and the public. We’re working closely with our leisure providers and partners to make sure the necessary safety measures
An award-winning new way to retire
of course things will be different, but we’re prioritising efforts to make sure people in all areas of the city have access to some facilities. Sport, exercise and leisure provide significant benefits for mental and physical health, which is crucial at this time. In line with national guidance, we’ll continue supporting Sheffield’s leisure operators, to encourage the safe and strong recovery of the sector, but further support from the Government is vital. We’ll continue working with national bodies such as Sport England and UK Active. We wholly support them in highlighting the practical and financial issues associated with reopening, and back their actions to lobby for more support nationally.” Sheffield City Council is developing its leisure investment strategy which is looking at how residents can access a wide range of modern, world class leisure facilities. Now more than ever, it is essential that this work is done as quickly as possible so the council can respond to the health and wellbeing and financial challenges in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Cllr Lea added: “The pandemic has presented an ideal time to plan and accelerate these opportunities. In the long term Sheffield’s indoor leisure provision will play a key role in keeping Sheffield moving more and building resilience within the community through improved health and wellbeing. It’s essential that we rethink our leisure offer now, focussing on the diverse needs of our residents and delivering provision that is sustainable, flexible and fit for the future. But right now we need the Government to urgently recognise the importance of this industry, and provide a support package that will allow it to thrive once again.” More information will be shared relating to the reopening of public leisure and fitness venues in Sheffield on the providers’ websites.
Director for Adlington Retirement Living, explains: “We’ve noticed more of our Homeowners are choosing to move to retirement communities whilst they’re fit and healthy, to future-proof their retirement. One of Sheffield’s most popular free family attractions, Graves Park Animal Farm, is set to reopen on Monday 27 July. Opening just in time for the school summer holidays, families across the city can start planning their visit with a new booking system, allowing up to 50 people to visit during 45 minute sessions, between 10am-4pm, 7 days per week. Safety measures have been introduced to keep staff and visitors safe, including limiting the number of visitors, use of hand washing and sanitising stations, cleaning after every session and reduced activities available. Entry will still be completely free to visitors. Councillor Mary Lea said: “We’ve been working really hard to reopen facilities within our parks and I’m delighted that we can allow visitors to return to our fantastic animal farm. We’re confident that the measures we have put in place are manageable and will allow families to enjoy a fun and educational experience, just in time for the school summer holidays. We’re proud that even with all these extra measures in place we can still offer this wonderful attraction for free. Donations, no matter how much, contribute to the running of the farm and the welfare of our animals, so if visitors can spare a small amount this makes a huge difference. Our booking system is now live and we expect demand will be high. I would encourage families to start planning early to avoid disappointment.” Jack Tankard, aka Farmer Jack, has kept people entertained throughout lockdown sharing his animal adventures through Facebook Live. No more than 50 people can visit the farm per hour. Hand washing facilities in the barn must be used before and after each visit, and sanitising stations are located around the farm for people to use.
Visitors must bring proof of booking and are asked to arrive 10 minutes early to listen to a safety briefing before entering the farm. During the 15 minute change over period farmers will disinfect common touching points and make sure everything is clean before next group is allowed in. No toilets are available in the farm but the nearest public toilets are located just 200m from the farm at the Rose Garden Café. The farm shop will be closed. Time around popular animals, such as the Shire horse & ponies, may be limited to 10 minutes so that everyone can meet them in the 45 minute slot. Animal petting is permitted but the sanitiser stations around the farm must be used before and after. Guinea pig handling sessions will not available at this stage.

Angling Trust takes marine protection campaign to the Environment Minister
Jamie Cook, CEO of the Angling Trust, used the opportunity of a face to face meeting with the Environment Minister Rebecca Pow to raise concerns of many sea anglers over the proposal to impose a blanket ban on angling in Highly Protected Marine Areas. Jamie said: “I was glad we were able to raise the concerns of sea anglers directly with the Minister. I made it clear the Benyon Review, which proposed an automatic ban on sea angling, is causing great anger among many sea anglers. It could even put at risk the chances of creating better protection of the
marine environment, as that could only come about through cooperation with such an important sector as recreational sea angling.” Minister Pow said she was listening to the concerns we have raised, and it was not the government’s intention to ignore or exclude the interest of sea angling. The government is considering the recommendations made in the Benyon Review and will be reporting on the next stage later this year. Sir Charles Walker MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Angling Group, who was also at the meeting said: “I’m pleased the Minister was willing to talk to the Angling Trust. Ignoring the voice of anglers would be a disaster. I do not want to see families and children who want to enjoy the delights of catching fish from the shore or a pier suddenly finding such a simple pleasure is illegal I support greater protection of our marine environment. We must work together and take a sensible approach to achieve, what is after all, a shared aim.” Stuart Singleton-White, Angling Trust’s Head of Campaigns, said: “It was pleasing to feel the Minister is listening. I will be following up with her officials on her commitment to ensure we are key to any future considerations around HPMA and the pilot sites the government will be selecting. It’s good progress but there is still work to be done. We need anglers across England to continue to write to their MP and express their concern.”

BLADES SLIP TO FIRST HOME They all need to DEFEAT SINCE JANUARY show something
United slipped to a first home league defeat since January, as Richarlison’s goal proved the difference between the two sides on Thursday evening. The Blades enjoyed good spells in a tightly fought, but the Brazilian’s header early in the second period settled the contest in Everton’s favour. Boss Wilder named an unchanged starting XI for the clash against the Toffees, despite last Thursday’s loss at Leicester City. There was one change on the bench though, with Clarke replacing Mousset. After a quiet opening, it was United who forced the first corner of the contest, but in the second phase, Pickford claimed Osborn’s cross comfortably. In United’s next attack, Pickford could only palm behind Norwood’s free-kick and from the resulting corner from the left O’Connell was inches away from connecting at the back post. Everton’s first foray forward saw Sigurdsson get Walcott in behind O’Connell, but Henderson saved that effort with his feet from a tight angle, before United eventually cleared their lines. Calvert-Lewin then threatened, but poor control from a Gomes pass allowed Henderson to snuff out the danger. The half hour mark ticked by and United forced another corner, but Calvert-Lewin headed clear and on the break, Osborn was forced to halt Walcott’s progress, before Davies was booked for a needless nasty lunge on McBurnie in the middle of the park. Goalscoring opportunities were at a premium, but Basham forced Pickford to take action having advanced forward into a promising position. With half-time approaching United suffered a real scare. Henderson could only punch Sigurdsson’s corner to Walcott and from his deep cross Calvert-Lewin headed against the far post. Norwood was then harshly cautioned despite winning the ball fairly in a challenge with Richarlison moments before referee Attwell blew for the interval. Within a minute of the restart though, United fell behind from a set-piece. Sigurdsson delivered and RICHARLISON got across the front of his marker and glanced a header past the dive of Henderson. Moments laters Everton broke, with Gomes freeing Walcott, thankfully though a combination of Egan and Henderson averted the potential danger. On 55 minutes, United were almost handed a

way back into the game, Baldock and Basham combined on the right and Keane couldn’t clear a low cross from the latter, unfortunately for the Blades though Pickford reacted quickest. At the other end, Calvert-Lewin got the better of Egan, but Henderson managed to claw away his deflected effort. United made a double change on the hour with Sharp and Fleck replacing McBurnie and Osborn. And then Lundstram took the place of Norwood, with Berge dropping into a deeper role. After Digne had headed behind for a corner, Pickford flapped at Fleck’s inswinging delivery, but the referee awarded a free-kick. The Blades were starting to force the issue as the clock ticked down, although the visitors managed to disrupt the tempo with a number of fouls, with Calvert-Lewin booked for a forearm to the head of Stevens. Seven minutes remained when Živković was introduced, moments after Gomes had come close from distance. The late substitute was getting down the side of Everton’s back line, but from a Stevens cross, Baldock couldn’t keep his header down. Four minutes of added time were signed by the fourth official, but try as they might, the Blades just couldn’t find a way to breakthrough the Everton defence down, as a run of four consecutive home league victories came to a disappointing end.
Garry Monk has told the players what he expects from Wednesday’s season finale with Middlesbrough in no uncertain terms. A win and three points on the board is the only outcome Monk will accept from his side as the curtain comes down on the 2019/20 season and the summer transition can begin. The Wednesday boss was once again left frustrated after going down 5-3 in an incredible game at Craven Cottage on Saturday. Seemingly dead and buried at half time, the Owls came back strong after the break to make a real go of things but were ultimately made to pay for costly errors. With the focus on Wednesday night at Hillsborough, Monk has spoken of that desire and attitude his players must show to get the result. He said: “We have one game left and we want to finish with the points. Nothing less than three points will do for us to make sure we finish the season properly.
“We have to make sure that we’re more desperate for those points and that our attitude for those points is stronger than Middlesbrough’s. “As much as they are going to battle for it, we need to make sure we do it stronger and that’s what I expect to see on Wednesday. “It won’t make amends for the run we’ve been on in the second half of the season but we want the three points for the fans, for ourselves - the need should always be there for three points and yes, I won’t accept anything less from them.” As has often been the case during these behind closed door fixtures; win, lose or draw, there is little time to reflect and the emphasis is on a quick recovery and to go again. Monk said: “It’s frustrating because had we done the basics right at Fulham, like we did in the previous two games, we’d have got a result because it was otherwise a good performance against tough opposition. “They all need to show something, it’s a collective, it’s not just about individuals and we all have the responsibility, myself included and this game on Wednesday we have to win. “We know offensively our team can make chances, we can scores goals but we cannot defend how we’ve defended in the second half of this season. “Far too inconsistent and it has to change. Away from home we are top of the league in terms of goals scored, but you can’t score that many to only compound it with mistakes at the other end.”
