Sheffield Local Plan consultation to start in September Sheffield City Council will launch a consultation after the summer holidays to give people the opportunity to provide their views and feedback on what they would like to be included in the Sheffield Local Plan. The Sheffield Plan will be a guide to development in the city until 2038 and will set out the blueprint for the growth and improvement of the local economy, housing, transport systems and environment for years to come. This consultation, which will start on the 1st September and run for six weeks, will gather views on what people would like to be included
in the Plan. It expands on a previous consultation in 2015 when people raised concerns around the development of housing on Green Belt land. Careful consideration has been given to this feedback, and the new proposals look at whether more homes could be built on brownfield land, especially within, or close to, the city centre. In addition to addressing the housing needs of Sheffield’s growing population, the consultation will also ask for views on things like how the Council best tackles climate change and meets its carbon-neutral target of 2030, as well as the future of the city’s high-street, parks
and attractions. In preparation for the consultation, and to give people time to find out more about the aims of the Plan and the choices available for Sheffield, the ‘Issues and Options’ document has been issued ahead of the start of the consultation. This will give you the opportunity to read it, talk to others and consider your views before the actual consultation starts on 1st September. You can make your formal comments from then until October 13th which means the consultation doesn’t coincide with the easing of lockdown and the summer holidays.

Advice on disposing of face coverings With residents now required to wear face coverings in shops, supermarkets and when using public transport, it is important that you understand how to dispose of your face coverings correctly during the coronavirus pandemic in order to maintain public safety. We recommend the use of reusable face masks as these can be washed, and then reused to prevent and reduce waste. See guidance on how to make your own reusable face covering. If you use disposable face coverings, they should be thrown away after each use, or as soon as they are damp. If you need to dispose of your face covering, and no one in your household is self-isolating or showing symptoms of the coronavirus, please follow the following guidance: • Place them in your black bin if at home, or a litter bin if you are outside. • You do not need to put them in an extra bag, and you
do not need to store them for a time before throwing them away. • Do not put them in a recycling bin as they cannot be recycled in your blue or brown bins. If you or a member of your household is showing symptoms and self-isolating, you should continue to use your black bin collection service as normal, with the following important exceptions: • Store your personal waste including used face coverings, tissues and disposable cleaning cloths securely within disposable rubbish bags. • Place each bag into another bag, tie them securely and keep separate from other waste. • These bags should be put aside for at least 72 hours before being put in your black bin for collection. • Please do not take this waste to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre. For more information about face coverings, please visit the Government website For up to date service updates during the coronavirus pandemic, visit: www.sheffield.gov.uk/waste

To the person in the wheelchair that stole my camo jacket. You can hide, but you can’t run. Today, I got kicked out of my “Flat Earth” Facebook group... I just wanted to know if the ‘6 feet apart’ social distancing guideline was pushing anyone over the edge. My son asked, “Dad, every time I talk to girls, I get butterflies in my stomach! What should I do?!” I gently put my arm around him and replied, “That’s easy son...” “Stop eating caterpillars!” After many years of procrastination I have finally finished my book on common herbs... It’s about thyme. Did you know that 97% of the world is stupid? Luckily I’m in the other 5%. I dig, you dig, he digs, she digs we dig, they dig. It’s not a long poem, but it’s deep.

The four track EP, containing two tracks co-written with legendary UK singer and billboard number one writer Steve Edwards who has famously written for Bob Sinclair and Chicane, is a smooth blend of jazzy pop fused with recordings showcasing Pashley’s slick vocal stylings. The EP includes songs such as ‘My Lovin’ Arms’ showcasing an effortless swing, before shuffling into a more contemporary sound with the brassy track ‘Assassin’. Elsewhere the yearning ballad ‘All For You’ brings the phrase ‘crooner’ into the 21st century bringing a modern edge to a timeless genre. During the Covid-19 crisis, Yorkshire Water supported over 10,000 customers with a payment holiday and introduced an online self-referral system for those facing financial difficulty. In the wake of high furlough and redundancy rates, the utility company offered customers the option of a payment holiday, which meant that they didn’t have to pay anything for three-months. The payment holiday, which compliments the company’s long-term support schemes, was designed to be a quick, short term help to relieve customers of financial worries related to the Covid-19 pandemic. Customers also had the option to register their financial concerns through an online system, if they didn’t feel comfortable speaking to someone over the phone. Yorkshire Water is proactively reaching out to each customer as they reach the end of the 12-week period. The dedicated team provide additional financial support and assurance, and where appropriate, can offer further financial assistance through one of their other five support schemes or other payment options. For Yorkshire Water customers that are continuing to face financial difficulty, there is additional support in place if income has stopped, been significantly reduced or they are unable to leave the house to pay a bill. The company’s WaterSupport scheme helps customers on lower incomes pay their water charges. If a household has a low income and is in receipt of an income-based benefit, with an annual water bill of more than £430, WaterSupport may be able to cap their
water charges to reduce financial strain and relieve worry. Angie Markham-Nock, Yorkshire Water’s Customer Support Manager said: “It is fantastic that we have been able to provide additional support to over 10,000 customers through what has been a difficult time for many. By providing payment holidays we have eased financial worries for our customers and helped them manage their finances. Customers facing ongoing difficulties can rely on us to support them through our various financial support schemes, as well as our Priority Services Register.” To see all the help available, and apply for support, go to: www.yorkshirewater.com/ billing-payments/help-paying-your-bill/

Take a Friend Fishing extended to build on rush to give fishing a go! The campaign has been extended to run from the 14th August to the 4th October
Following the success of the Take a Friend Fishing initiative which saw hundreds of anglers register across the first two weeks of July, the Environment Agency, Angling Trust and Angling Trades Association have combined to extend the campaign. This will give Environment Agency rod fishing licence holding anglers the opportunity to register to take a friend fishing throughout the eight-week period running from 14th August to 4th October 2020. Going fishing is a wonderful way to spend quality time with family and friends and has proven mental health and wellbeing benefits. Fishing licence holding anglers will be able to register for a free one-day Environment Agency fishing licence worth £6 to take someone they know fishing. To take advantage of this offer, all that licence holding anglers need to do is to visit www. takeafriendfishing.co.uk. Jamie Cook CEO of the Angling Trust said "We are thrilled to be able to drive the Take a Friend Fishing initiative forward and I applaud the Environment Agency for taking this proactive step to build on the work the Angling Trust have done to get fishing back and then to grow angling participation. We need to seize this opportunity which allows both experienced and new anglers, as well as those returning to the sport, the opportunity to share the experience, sew the seed and help their friends and families take that first step to establishing a fishing habit." With licence sales booming following angling restrictions being lifted, now is the ideal time for the angling community to come together and help to increase participation in the sport. Andrew Race who recently took over as Chairman of the Angling Trades Association (ATA) said "The decision by the
Environment Agency to extend the Take a Friend Fishing initiative cannot be underestimated. It reflects the cooperative potential and commitment to angling that now exists between the major stakeholders. I feel privileged to be ATA chair at this exciting time and would urge the trade as a whole to look at what we are achieving and support this initiative". Kevin Austin, Deputy Director for Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment at the Environment Agency said "Angling is a great way to spend time outdoors whilst remaining a safe distance, has known wellbeing benefits and what's more, anyone can participate. The Environment Agency, Angling Trust and the Angling Trades Association fully support the Take a Friend Fishing initiative which invites newcomers to discover the positives around this sport for themselves. The success of the recent relaunch and increase in licence sales since the lockdown period has shown the enthusiasm that exists and so we are extending the free one day licence offer again so that we can grow our angling community even more!" Members of the angling trade have responded positively, welcoming the initiative, and adding their support. For more information and to get a free one-day fishing licence to Take a Friend Fishing, fishing licence holding anglers just need to go to www. takeafriendfishing.co.uk and provide some simple contact details including their fishing licence number and the date of the fishing trip. This will notify their friend who, after checking their details are correct, will be able to go fishing with the fishing licence holder, on the selected day using their own free one-day fishing licence Angling can still be practiced safely and has seen a boom in participation numbers after being one of the first sports to return on 13th May after lockdown guidelines were relaxed. The Angling Trust - the national representative and governing body for angling in England regularly updates its guidelines to anglers, clubs, fisheries, coaches, and other angling organisations to ensure fishing can comply with the latest Government guidance during the Covid-19 epidemic

New deal for arriving Upon putting pen-to-paper, Basham remarked: Bashiru completes “I’m delighted the deal has been agreed and popular Bash signed off. I’m looking forward to the future, Wednesday switch working with the manager and helping pushing Chris Basham has further demonstrated his long-term commitment to the Blades by signing a new contract, which runs until the summer of 2022. United’s longest serving player, who arrived on a free transfer from Blackpool in the summer of 2014, scooped the Player of the Year and the Players’ Player of the Year award at Friday’s virtual awards evening and was instrumental to the success in finishing ninth in the club’s first season back in the Premier League. The 32-year-old, who is approaching 300 appearances for the Blades, started every topflight game last season and has prided himself
the club on further. “We’re all striving for the same thing, starting with the manager and throughout the club, we all have the same ambitions and same goals. “There is a genuine togetherness within the group and obviously that makes you want to remain part of this journey, we certainly think there is much more to come. “The club has backed us since day one and that has continued throughout our rise to the Premier League, now we are here we want to improve further and that is the focus ahead of returning for pre-season later this month.”
The Owls have made their first signing of the summer with the capture of Fisayo DeleBashiru from Premier League Manchester City. Dele-Bashiru moves to Hillsborough from the Etihad for an undisclosed fee. The 19-year-old is an emerging talent reared by City’s renowned academy and has a glowing reputation as a dynamic box to box midfielder. Dele-Bashiru rose through the youth ranks in Manchester from the age of eight, playing alongside the likes of Phil Foden and Eric Garcia. Having represented City through the age groups, he signs for the Owls with the intention to make the breakthrough into first team football. Dele-Bashiru told swfc.co.uk: “I’m honoured to sign for Sheffield Wednesday and I’m excited to be here. “I’m at an age now where I want to be playing first team football and I am confident it will fall into place for me here. “I know there are other players in the same position but competition for places is a positive. “My game is about power, strength and pace, I like to go box to box and I like taking on a shot too. “The manager has shown a desire to bring me to the club and that means a lot. He has a good CV and I’m sure this is the right platform for me at this stage of my career.”
RIP Pete Whitney
Management and staff are saddened to learn of the passing over the weekend of former chair of the Sheffield United Supporters’ Club, Pete Whitney. Pete was a true Blade and it was a lifelong devotion. Always an active face on the Supporters’ Club scene, he took a leading role in the 1980s and it was one that he took great pride in performing, always with his wife Beryl at his side as she performed the role of secretary. There were very much a team in every sense of the word. Pete was liked and respected by all who dealt with him. He had the friendship of many United managers and directors over the years and was always viewed as a figure of trust in the corridors of Sheffield United. Pete stepped down from the role of chair of the supporters’ group several years ago, but remained a committee member, offering his wealth of experience and advice wherever needed on behalf of his beloved Sheffield United and his colleagues in the Supporters’ Club. The thoughts of all at Bramall Lane are with Beryl and the Whitney family at this sad time. Pete and his long, hard service on behalf of those fans who became a part of the Supporters’ Club family is greatly appreciated by all those at Sheffield United who had cause to work with him. Rest in peace, Pete.
Moore delighted with Lokilo signing Darren Moore says he is delighted with the acquisition of winger Jason Lokilo who joined Rovers in time to start pre-season. Lokilo joined Rovers on loan from Crystal Palace on the final day of the January transfer window and opted to make the move permanent in the summer. “Jason brings us real quality in possession of the ball,” said Moore. “He’s very good in one-v-one situations because he receives, manages and manipulates the ball well in tight spaces. “He had one or two other options this summer but he felt that his career was here at this football club and we're delighted to have him with us.”

Lokilo made his debut off the bench against Wycombe Wanderers and showcased some of that skill which culminated in an excellent delivery and led to a Wycombe own goal and the 21-year-old had been due to start against Wimbledon before the season was postponed. “We saw a little bit of him last season but just as he was getting up to fitness and we were getting him in the team COVID-19 struck,” added Moore. “He’s bright energetic and quick and he’s got an eye for goal when he’s coming off the wing. If he finds himself in those central areas he’s a threat. “He’s also got wonderful deliveries from set plays and he has a lot of qualities. He ticks all the boxes in terms of the type of players we want to bring to the football club. “We’re really pleased to have him on board and when fans are allowed to come back to the stadiums, they will get to see him and the quality that he brings.”
