FOUR SHEFFIELD PUBS RE-OPEN AFTER COVID RULES BREACHES Four pubs in Sheffield shut down by the council for breaching the coronavirus rules have now re-opened. The venues had been closed by Sheffield City Council after visits to each venue found customers and staff were breaching the rules. A council report said the there was a “lack of control of customers” as well as loud music, singing, dancing and groups “hugging and kissing”. The council issued prohibition notices to the four premises ordering them to close until the problems were addressed. The pubs to received the
notices are the Pack Horse in High Green, the Malin Bridge Inn in Malin Bridge, the Sports Shack in Hillsborough and the Pen Nook in Deepcar. Sheffield City Council’s director for public health Greg Fell said: “We don’t want to do this; this is a last resort but some places are just not getting the message to act safely and prevent further spread of the virus. “If we do not take measures such as these then we could end up in an even worse position. “Rates have been steadily
increasing in Sheffield over recent weeks, we have university students coming into the city this week, and we must do all we can to ensure people follow the guidance and safety advice from ourselves and our partners in the NHS and Government.” All four pubs have since reopened, reassuring customers they have had meetings with the council and have addressed the issues that led to their closure. The Malin Bridge Inn in Malin Bridge responded to news of the pub closures, as it hoped
to “clear up a few rumours” about the reason that the council closed them down. They said that the authority had performed a “routine visit” and found customers to be dancing at their tables, as a result of the music being too loud. Staff said they did not condone or “turn a blind eye” towards the behaviour and they have now reopened, with strict rules in place that they said they are continuing to enforce. The Pen Nook posted on the 23rd: “We’ve made the changes they wanted and now we can reopen,” the
pub said in a comment on Facebook. The Sport Shack in Hillsborough said their closure was the result of a lack of social distancing in the smoking area. They said: “Sport Shack Hillsborough has been closed because of a report of smoking outside not being socially distanced. “This issue has been caused because of the scaffolding being put up by our landlord to repair the roof.” The pub has since announced that they were officially back open and thanked their customers for the “kind messages” and support. “Please stick to all of the rules that are in place and please follow the guidance from our staff as they are here to help you,” they said.

coronavirus testing - local updates published stoptober 2020 campaign The Sheffield Mobile Testing Centre currently based at Olympic Legacy Park is relocating to Milton Street Car Park in Broomhall. The site will be open at its new location on Tuesday 29 September. Access to the centre is both pedestrian and drive-through. The site operating hours will be 11am-3pm open 7 days a week. The testing centre is accessible with a pre-booked appointment only. Only arrange a test if you have covid symptoms. You can arrange for a test by booking via the national portal online nhs. uk/coronavirus or calling 119. Do not attend the site without an appointment, you will be turned away if you do not have a booking. If you have any of the following symptoms, you need to arrange a free test: • A high temperature • A new, continuous cough • A loss or change to your sense of smell or taste Testing continues to play a vital part in our fight against the spread of Covid-19 in our city and to help reduce the rate of people contracting the virus, we need your help. If you are showing symptoms, however mild, you need to get tested as soon as you can. A third local testing centre will soon be opening in Burngreave to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 across the city and within our communities. Based at Gower Street Car Park in Burngreave, the new unit will be open from Wednesday 30 September between 2pm-5pm. From Thursday 1 October, operating hours will be between 8am-8pm for a three month period, allowing people with symptoms to get tested. In making testing easier and more accessible, we can better support our communities to get tested for free. Working in partnership with community organisations across the city, our aim is to prevent transmission of the virus in our communities. Director of Public Health at Sheffield City Council, Greg Fell, said: “Firstly, I want to reassure people that we have a very clear understanding of the situation in Sheffield with a plan in place to respond to the changing picture promptly. The health and safety of the city’s residents remains our priority. In our efforts to slow the case numbers in the city we must remain vigilant and testing is one way of helping us contain any potential spread of the virus. But, in order to reduce the rate of people contracting the virus, we need your help. We know there are people with mild symptoms that do not get tested, so please, if you have symptoms, arrange for a test.” What to expect when you attend a local testing unit • The swab test takes less than a minute and is pain free and free of charge. • Be patient - results from tests taken at test sites are usually processed within 72 hours. • Testing is available for all groups in society, including vulnerable groups and people with disabilities. We are continuously improving the testing service so that testing is accessible to all. • Anyone attending an appointment at a local testing site will be provided with guidance on getting to and from the test site safely. Book your test online at nhs.uk/coronavirus or call 119. We are unable to accommodate unbooked attendance, as lab testing is currently at capacity and testing allocation has been limited at this time. Anyone testing positive for the virus in England will be contacted by NHS Test and Trace to help them track their contacts. This will help people to identify who they may have been in close contact with, protecting others from further transmission.
Greg Fell added: “UK-wide, we have seen a recent upsurge in Coronavirus cases. It is clear the pandemic is far from over. We have to learn to live with it for some time to come and as we see cases rising locally, we need to continue to be careful. By careful we mean, continuing to wash your hands or use hand sanitiser, keep your distance and wearing a face covering if you are travelling on public transport or entering enclosed spaces such as shops, including supermarkets. Most importantly, if you are feeling poorly or think you have symptoms, no matter how mild, you must stay at home and contact NHS test and trace to arrange a test. Our message is simple, COVID-19 has not gone away and we need our communities’ support in stopping the spread and to help protect our loved ones.” The Council’s focus throughout the pandemic has been to keep people safe, protect the most vulnerable and reopen the city as and when it has been safe to do so. This still remains the case and these continue to be at the forefront of all the decisions we make. Meanwhile in Rotherham the number of people with COVID-19 being admitted to hospital in Rotherham has risen to 17. This number includes four patients in critical care. Five weeks ago there were no COVID patients at the hospital. There have been at least two COVID-related deaths in the borough over the last fortnight, following a month without a COVID fatality. The rate of infection in Rotherham had now gone above 50 per 100,000 population, with the most common cause of infection being community transmission, meaning that people are catching the virus most often during social or family contact. The data shows a wide spread of infection across the borough with connections between families, friends and social circles. Dr Richard Jenkins, of Rotherham NHS , said: “While the number of hospital inpatients who have tested positive for COVID-19 is still far lower than it has been, we are starting to see numbers increase with 17 positive patients in the hospital on 25 September. As we head towards flu season, it is as important as ever that we all continue to work together to reduce the risk of infection.”
Sheffield City Council are piloting an innovative stop smoking programme to help our staff quit this Stoptober. The programme involves free access to the most popular stop smoking app, Smoke Free (normally £60), alongside a 4-week structured quit plan which includes one-to-one support from a stop smoking advisor virtually. Smoking rates in Sheffield have been steadily declining since 2011, thanks to the pioneering tobacco control programme and this latest initiative to support staff to quit follows the move in 2018 which made all council premises smoke free sites. Continuing with commitment to the health and wellbeing of our staff, they have now made the investment for 250 people to take part and will be open to all SCC staff. Smokers are three times more likely to quit with use of a combination of specialist behavioural support and stop smoking medicines, however, it is known from local and national data that a larger proportion of people try to quit alone which is the least effective way to quit. This new initiative enhances the local stop smoking service offer and ensures council staff have access to further evidenced-based quit support, that gives up to date information on how they are gaining from quitting as well as quick access to support in their pocket via their phone, access to an online community of quitters and expert-led group discussions which people can take part in or watch. People can access both the stop smoking service and medications, as well as use the App to give them the best chance of success. “Two years on from going smokefree across all our sites we have made great progress in reducing smoking on site, with a 30% reduction in smoking observed across our sites. We hope that this latest initiative will give more staff the support they need to quit.,” says Greg Fell, Director of Public Health in Sheffield. The programme will launch in time for Public Health England’s annual Stoptober initiative, which aims to encourage the nation’s smokers to make a quit attempt together during the month of October. Smokers across the city will be encouraged to set a quit date this Stoptober, with Smokefree Sheffield offering advice and support throughout the month. Free support to quit is available to everyone in the city. For advice and support to quit smoking this October and beyond visit: www.smokefreesheffield.org

NW Anglers asked to report and kill escaped farmed salmon
On 20th August 2020, Storm Ellen caused damage to a fish farm in the Firth of Clyde on the Scottish west coast that resulted in the escape of almost 50,000 farmed Atlantic Salmon. Over 100 of these fish have been caught by anglers fishing rivers on the Scottish West coast in the broad proximity to the farm from where they escaped. At least 5 farmed salmon have also been caught in Cumbrian rivers and the Border Esk. It is well established that potential interbreeding between escaped farmed salmon and native wild salmon is damaging to the native stock, so it is strongly recommended that any farmed salmon caught be humanely destroyed and removed from the river. The Environment Agency have now issued a local enforcement position which will allow anglers to remove these fish and send scale samples for analysis. This new enforcement position is temporary and can be removed at any time. It covers the following rivers: The Border Esk, the River Eden, the River Calder, the Rivers Annas, Bela, Ellen, Gilpin, Keer, Mite, Waver, Wampool and Winster, Leven, Crake, We would encourage all angler to read the detail of this Temporary Local Enforcement Position themselves by visiting anglingtrust.net/wp-content/ uploads/2020/09/Escaped-Salmon-EnforcementPosition however the key conditions are that: Only farmed salmon may be taken and killed. Wild salmon must be returned to the water unharmed (unless the provisions of the River Leven and Crake Byelaws apply).
The farmed salmon are relatively easy to distinguish from wild salmon. Specifically, the farmed salmon tend to have ragged dorsal, tail and pectoral fins, often have shortened or damaged gill covers, are more heavily spotted, and tend to be more silver in appearance than the wild salmon that are much more coloured at this time of year. The escaped farmed salmon are mostly of uniform size around 8 to 9 pounds in weight. A visual guide to demonstrate the difference between wild and farmed salmon is available from http://fms.scot/wp-content/ uploads/2020/09/200908-Aqua-Guidance-forAnglers.pdf All captured farmed salmon must be reported as quickly as possible using the Fisheries Management Scotland online reporting form This can be completed by mobile phone. A sample of scales must be scraped from each captured fish, wrapped in paper and sent to the Ayrshire Rivers Trust Office, 1 Gibbsyard, Auchincruive Estate, Ayr, KA6 5HW. Anglers must complete their annual catch return to the Environment Agency as normal after the end of the fishing season, including the details of any farmed salmon caught.

Motivation to bounce back
The Owls’ ability to quickly move on from a set back will be a major factor this season, according to manager Garry Monk. Highlighting an area of improvement needed for 2020/21, Monk has underlined, with his ‘no games to waste’ message, that his side must hit back at the earliest opportunity. And from a start to the season that has produced a lot of encouraging signs from a Wednesday perspective, Monk is confident his squad will rise to that challenge. After five away games from six in all competition so far this season, the Owls return to Hillsborough
It’s what happens in this league First defeat league of the season but no panic in the Owls’ camp was the sentiment of Josh Windass on Sunday. Wednesday slipped to a 2-0 defeat away at Bristol City but the forward insists the team will not get too down over their first setback. What has gone before the trip to Ashton Gate is full of positives, as were aspects of the loss in the South West yesterday. But after failing to capitalise on a strong first half hour, the hosts held out and snatched the first goal after the break. Windass reflected: “I thought we were good for the first 20 minutes and started the game well. “I don’t think we were as good as we have been in the second half but that’s the Championship. “But we’re a lot different this season from last season. We’ll have little setbacks along the way,

on Saturday to face QPR. “We know we’re more than capable to win games but the most important thing for us this season is how we bounce back,” Monk said. “As disappointment and frustrating as defeats are, and how much you don’t want them, they’re part of it. “The key thing and what will define us is how we bounce back. “I’m positive that it will be different to last season, where we didn’t bounce back quick enough and well enough. “What will define us is how quickly we do it this season and that’s our aim now. “Our aim is to have a good week of training, take what the Bristol City game was - the first defeat we have had in the league - and turn it around into motivation for this weekend. “How we bounce back is what will be remembered, it’s what is vitally important from this point.”
that’s what happens in this division - it’s tough. “We won’t be getting too down after defeat, we have got a good squad in there and the manager has really got us together. We will go into next week, confident that we can get a result.” The determination to get back on the horse and put the result to bed was clear to see in Windass, while picking the bones out of the defeat to the Robins. A matter of 15 minutes after the full time whistle and Windass already had his eye on a full week at Middlewood Road building up to a big game at Hillsborough on Saturday. “The team spirit in there is brilliant,” he continued. “Everyone loves playing for the manager and next week, we will be confident that we can go out there and win. “Obviously none of us are happy after losing but we’ll be upbeat in training next week, back confident because you can’t go two and three games in this league without a win. We look to that QPR game now.”
LATE GOAL GIVES LEEDS YORKSHIRE DERBY POINTS In an entertaining clash, which both teams could have won, Patrick Bamford’s late header proved decisive for the visitors. For the clash against Marcelo Bielsa’s side, Wilder was forced into changes. Egan (suspension) and O’Connell (knee) missed out, whilst Fleck was only fit enough to be named amongst the substitutes. Ampadu was handed his full United league debut, with Robinson also named in the starting XI. Inside the opening four minutes United had a couple of early scares. Firstly, Harrison was freed down the left, but Basham was ideally positioned to clear the danger, then Ayling found some space and drew a diving save from Ramsdale. At the other end, McGoldrick was cleaned out by Phillips, who was subsequently booked, after Lundstram had dragged an effort wide from Burke’s pass. Midway through the first period, United fashioned a chance for Baldock at the back post after some excellent build-up play that ended with Burke laying off for Osborn to cross, but Harrison read the danger and cleared his lines. In response, from a free kick on the right, Bamford headed over from a Phillips delivery, before Ramsdale comfortably saved a deflected effort from Klich. On the half hour, the Blades should have taken the lead. Ayling surrendered position on halfway, United broke and from Osborn’s low cross only an excellent save from Meslier denied an advancing Lundstram from opening the scoring. The game continued to see both teams create chances, this time it was the visitors through Harrison on the left that found time and space for a cross, but thankfully Bamford’s header was too high. As half-time approached the game followed the same pattern of both teams have chancing, Burke and McGoldrick for the Blades following an Ayling slip, before Ramsdale was forced into action to tip away a Dallas shot and from the resulting corner, Cooper headed wide under pressure. Back on the attack, the Blades cut Leeds open again, with Osborn again instrumental, only for Meslier to tip over Baldock’s effort. And from the corner that followed, referee Tierney waved way appeals for a penalty as Ampadu went down with Dallas perhaps guilty of a tug and push. It was Leeds who had the first shot on goal in the
second half, but Ramsdale was equal to Costa’s back post volley, after McGoldrick had only partially cleared. The visitors continued to force the issue, but this time Ramsdale denied Bamford at his near post, before showing assured handling to claim the resulting corner. With the hour mark in sight, Lundstram was booked for a trip on an advancing Dallas which halted a potential counter. United were gradually getting back into the contest and some neat play on the right ended with Stevens stinging the palms of Meslier on the angle. But moments later, the Blades just about survived a real moment of danger. Dallas rounded Ramsdale from a long ball that was allowed to run, but Basham managed to rearrange his body shape and clear in the nick of time. On 64 minutes, Wilder made his first chance, with Norwood replacing Lundstram, as Berge stepped further forward in midfield. But it was Leeds substitute Rodrigo that should have done better with a near post header from Dallas’s cross from the left. Still the game ebbed and flowed, with both sides looking to break the deadlock. Ampadu made a vital block from Rodrigo’s effort but it came at a cost as he needed lengthy treatment for a facial injury before getting back to his feet. Sharp and McBurnie replaced Burke and McGoldrick with 16 minutes left to play. From a United corner, Leeds broke at pace, but Ramsdale denied Poveda, before tipping behind from a deep cross from Klich. But from the next Blades corner, Robinson diverted Osborn’s inviting centre inches wide of the far post with Meslier beaten as United themselves came close to the opener. In what had been an end-to-end game throughout, the contest finished in the same manner. Ramsdale denied Dallas, whilst only a block from Koch denied Sharp at the other end as he looked to latch on to a long clearance. But with two minutes, Leeds dealt the Blades a cruel blow as BAMFORD headed home at the back post from Harrison’s cross. Five minutes of added time were signalled and the Blades, with Basham in attack tried everything to get an equaliser, but from a promising position, Osborn couldn’t find a telling ball and that was the last action of note. Blades: Ramsdale, Baldock, Stevens, Basham, Lundstram (Norwood 64), Berge, Burke (Sharp 74), McGoldrick (McBurnie 74), Robinson, Ampadu, Osborn. Subs: Fleck, Lowe, Jagielka, Foderingham.

Moore SUFC pleased with 2020/21 another win
Memorial Garden to be moved Sheffield United have always had a fine reputation for the way in which the passing of members of its special family are remembered and paid tribute to upon their passing to a higher league. The memorial garden, with its wall remembering those past, is a feature where we have been able to allow some comfort to those grieving in the stadium grounds, although in recent years, as with under the pitch, the laying of ashes has been ceased. In the near future, we anticipate that there will be extensive development of Bramall Lane’s facilities to improve our historic home. At some point, this will inevitably mean that the current memorial area of the stadium will have to moved or included in any building work that may take place In the first instance, the plan is for the earth in this area will be sensitively moved to a new designated spot within our boundaries. It will also be deconsecrated. From the 1st of October 2020, the Club will not permit the laying of: • Plastic/artificial floral tributes • Soft toys and ornaments • Cards for anniversaries • Photographs • Decorative vases or urns • Any non-organic and non-biodegradable forms of tribute We would respectfully ask that all fans who have such items currently adorning the area remove them prior to the 1st October.
Wins will define our season
The Owls slipped to a somewhat harsh reverse at Bristol City but Garry Monk says it is the wins that will shape his side over the course of the season, not defeats. Second half goals from Tommy Rowe and Jamie Paterson sealed victory for the Robins and Monk has now tasked his charges to bounce back from their first defeat of the campaign. He told swfc.co.uk: “Wins will define our season, not defeats. The test now is to bounce back from this setback and we have a full week of training to do that before the next game against QPR. “We’ve had a good start to the season but the test was always going to be the first defeat and we’ve had that today. “This game has highlighted the need to score and get ahead when you are on top, as we were in the first half. “We played some really good stuff and were on top of the game but we didn’t make the breakthrough, which they did in the second half. “These are good teams, no one in this division is going to roll over. Against Watford we dominated the first half, we have dominated the first half today, now the challenge is to dominate both halves and turn that possession into goals and wins.”

Darren Moore was pleased to see his side earn another three points after they beat Bristol Rovers 4-1 at the Keepmoat Stadium. The victory extended Rovers’ unbeaten start to the league campaign, but the manager says there are still plenty of areas for improvement. He said: “I think we could have scored more, I’m
delighted with the three points but we could have been more ruthless with our chances. “Once we get into the area I’d like us to make the most of every chance, but we’re happy to have another win on the board. “We want to keep improving every week and there were lots of things for us to work on heading into the Wigan game.” Madger Gomes added to his goal tally with another fine strike against the Gas, and Moore says he’s been working hard on improving his game. He added: “Madger is in a really good run of form in terms of goals and getting in the box more often is paying off for him. “He strikes a clean ball and credit to him for sticking his chances in the back of the net, he’s one of a few that have been chipping in.”
Taylor: squad full I’m proud of of confidence how we played Jon Taylor says the Rovers squad are confident going into every game after they beat Bristol Rovers 4-1 in Sky Bet League One. The win made it seven points from a possible nine for Darren Moore’s side, and Taylor believes they were good value for it. He said: “We started off a little slowly and let them back into the game but after half time we did the job. “We believe we’re a very good team, we play some good stuff and as a winger it’s exciting to be part of it. “The manager has a lot of faith in us and we all know our roles under him, that’s what we work on every day and we’re improving all the time.” Taylor netted his first goal of the season with Rovers’ fourth of the afternoon, and is looking to improve on the six he managed last term. He added: “I’ve had a couple of chances in the first two games so it’s good to get off the mark and I want to kick on now. “Every season I want to score as many goals as I can, I scored a few last season but felt I should have got a lot more.”
Rotherham United manager Paul Warne was proud of his side’s display following their 1-1 draw with Birmingham City at St. Andrew’s. The Millers took the lead from the penalty spot with three minutes to go through Kieran Sadlier’s first goal in Rotherham colours, but were pegged back moments later as Blues scored a spot-kick of their own. The manager admitted he was disappointed that his side didn’t take three points away from the Second City, but stressed he was pleased with his team’s display against Blues. “I’m proud of the way we played and I’m proud of the fact that we’re trying to take games to the opposition,” Warne told www.themillers.co.uk. “I thought we played really well and there were some good performances from the lads, one of my highlights was Ben Wiles’ performance. “We were on top in the second half which I was really pleased with away from home, in fairness to Birmingham I thought they were the better side in the second half. “We found ourselves 1-0 up with three minutes to go, so I was disappointed not to get the three points.” The boss was delighted with his side’s first half display but insisted that there is still more to come from the Millers this season. “We were excellent and moved the ball really well. Mickel (Miller) and Chieo (Ogbene) caused them problems and our midfielders were effective. “I wanted us to go up another level. The lads are better than what they think. We could be standing here on seven points, so to only have four I’m disappointed. “However, Birmingham played well in the second half and we defended brilliantly. Our defending overall has been really promising,” Warne added. The trip to St. Andrew’s saw Mickel Miller make his full debut for Rotherham United and after a strong performance from the former Hamilton winger, Warne admitted he’s pleased with his options out wide. “The competition we have in the wide positions is really good. Mickel caused them problems when he came inside and was brilliant carrying the ball at his feet, on another day, he would have been on the winning team. “We have strength in depth and different options to change games this year, which is promising,” Warne said.
