at last - a lifeline for clubland as roadmap revealed As the government revelead its longawaited roadmap for unlocking, many clubs and pubs in South Yorkshire breathed a sigh of relief as the prospect of opening their doors once more finally became a reality. Although there are still a few weeks to go, there is now a very real prospect that, before too long we can once again enjoy a pint and some of the finest local talent playing live

once again. Couple who have delayed and postponed their wedding arrangements several times can also once again look forward to finally tying the knot in the company of friends and family as 21st June was declared the provisional end of all legal restrictions. There is even the opportunity for football fans to enjoy one game this season, as Sheffield

United will host Burnley for the final game of the season, shortly after the 17th May re-opening of major stadia - which will also give other entertainemnt venues such the Arena the opportunity to open their doors once again. While foreign travel is still very much in the balance, holidays here in the UK are now set to go ahead with hotels and all holiday facilities opening from 17th May, ahead of

the proposed end of all legal restrictions. The governmanet has allowed itself a generous timeframe to review all its measures, to hopefully prevent the need to delay any re-opening. Sadly there will probably be a few casualties among venues who simply couldn’t survive the extended forced closure, but from our conversations with many of the clubs and pubs they are simply

itching to get the doors open again! And spare a thought for the many artists who entertain the public week in week out - it’s more than twelve months since the bands were allowed to play, and there have only been limited opportunities for many of the solo and duo performers to earn a living - so once the time comes let’s all get out there and celebrate their return!

hidden gems of the rubbish drawer revealed Admit it - you’ve got one somewhere! But the junk drawer is a thing of beauty – no one sets out to create one but somehow, all your odd bits and bobs find their way in, and before you know it you’ve lost track of what’s even in there. An online poll on messy drawers found that on average, items get abandoned for four years. The most common items exiled to the drawer were: • Batteries – Usually out of the packet, and most likely do not work. • Instruction manuals for appliances – remember the toaster that broke three years ago? Still holding onto that manual JUST IN CASE. • Random keys – Are they for the windows? Are they spares for the back door? Are they even for your house? • Spare screws – You kept the spare screws for the ever-so-sturdy bookcase you built five years ago on the off chance it’ll fall apart. It hasn’t.

• Wet wipes – The little ones from the takeaway that they always give you too many of, that might be usual if you remembered they were in there. • Desk items – Paperclips, rubber bands, and Sellotape which has mostly run out. • Takeaway menus – Even though most of the family order from apps now and the menus have changed in the last few years. • Old technology – You could open a museum of iPhones past and present with the collection you have in the drawer, not forgetting the tangled mess of old chargers! And the average time something’s been in the drawer? According to the survey, it’s four years – although some people owned up and said “decades”. And the survey discovered some amazing weird and wonderful things kept in the messy draw • Baby teeth - Diana 53 “The kids have left home now” • 50 Hotel room keys - John 38 “I honestly don’t

know why I have them” • Lock of an exes hair - Taylor 44 “Yeah I should throw that out” • Old photos bought from a charity shop Rhona 72 “ I have no idea who they are, but they do look so happy” • WW2 used bullet case - Tom 33 “My Grandpa gave it to me, I don’t want to throw it out” • Taxidermy Mouse - Dan 34 “I bought it off ebay” There are lots of custom drawer organisers on the market - from the very cheap to ridiculously expensive - but instead of splashing out on a purpose made set, you could use old Tupperware boxes or ice cream tubs, anything that fits inside the drawer to help sort the spare batteries from the stationery items. So why not have a good rummage through yours? As the Antiques Roadshow proves time & again, there may be a fortune sitting undiscovered in there!

6:30 is the best time on a clock. Hands down... What do you call a dog with no legs? It doesn’t matter, it’s not going to come. My friend is giving away free guitars. No strings attached. My doctor told me to take up an activity that gets me out of the pub. So I’ve started smoking. I slept like a baby last night... I spent half the night crying and then soiled myself. My ex texted me, “Wish you were here.” She does that every time she walks through a cemetery. A teacher asks a student, “Are you ignorant or just apathetic?” The kid answers, “I don’t know and I don’t care.” I came home from the pub really drunk last night. As I staggered into the living room and sat down on the sofa my wife looked at me and said, “Can’t you just go out and have a couple of drinks?” “Of course I can,” I replied, standing back up. “Just let me get my coat!” How easy is it to impersonate Victor Meldrew? a) Don’t b) Leave it My son didn’t cope well with going to jail. He refused to eat or drink anything. He swore at everyone and covered his room with his own faeces... After that we never played Monopoly again! People criticise shops for selling Christmas stuff too early... Well, our supermarket sells birthday cakes and mine isn’t for another 11 months!

promoted to funeral director. It was there that I learnt how to arrange and conduct funerals, as well as the correct way to handle and line coffins and how to prepare the deceased for the family to pay their respects. This gave me a full scope of all aspects of the job and after ten years ofservice I was offered the position of manager at a new branch on Abbey Lane, which I accepted, and is now a well-established business. In September 2017 I was offered the opportunity to join the team at Eric Eyre’s and to ‘move back home’, as I say, as I live local to both branches. It was, and still is, a fantastic opportunity for me to grow and develop an already friendly family run business and provide our local community with a warm and compassionate service.” Completing the team at High Green is John Walton, who has been with the company for over 20 years and Sharon Clayton who joined in July 2017, while Beverley Travis and Vera Gregory look after the branch at Sheffield Lane Top, which opened four years ago. “Our aim is to be there for our clients in every way that we can and make sure that their loved one is sent on their final journey exactly as they would have wanted. Your first point of contact will be the person you deal with throughout the process and whether the death has occurred at home, in a hospital or elsewhere, we will guide from the initial arrangement all the way through to directing the funeral. We even provide help following the service, should you need any further support or guidance.” If you need help arranging a funeral for your loved one, contact Eric Eyre Funeral Service.
