Tramlines 2021 takes place after the first ever sell out event in 2019 and an unplanned hiatus in 2020. Since humble beginnings in 2009 when Tramlines launched as a free, multi-venue, innercity festival, Tramlines is now a firm fixture on the UK festival circuit receiving many accolades including the UK Festival Award for Best Metropolitan Festival in 2019 and 2011. In keeping with the last two events, Tramlines Festival 2021 takes place in one greenfield site, Hillsborough Park, just

a few miles North West of Sheffield City Centre and will feature five stages of music, comedy, performance, art, and handpicked food and craft ales. The Friday night headliner on ‘Sarah Nulty’s Main Stage’ will be The Streets whose enigmatic frontman, Mike Skinner has performed exclusive DJ sets for Tramlines in the past but performs live for the first time providing a perfect start to the weekend’s festivities. Brit Award winning Rock duo, Royal Blood are the

Saturday headliners, hot on the heels of their 3rd LP, ‘Typhoons’ whilst former Verve frontman, Richard Ashcroft takes the prestigious Sunday night slot. Tramlines Festival Operations Director, Timm Cleasby said, “The pandemic has hit us all very hard in a million different ways but the support that Sheffield has already shown us is incredibly humbling for us all. We’re super excited to bring you what I feel is one of our strongest line ups.

Continued from the Front page “The 3 main headliners have been on my list for a good while now and we’ve got some brilliant returning friends as well. All this said we’re very serious about the public’s safety and take our responsibilities regarding COVID very seriously. We’re keeping a close eye on developments and will act accordingly should things change. The 2021 lineup for Tramlines is packed with some of the UK’s all-time rock and indie favourites. Appearing are poster boys of the noughties indie wave scene, The Kooks, ‘Chelsea Dagger’ indie swingers The Fratellis, the platinum selling The Pigeon Detectives, and Blossoms who were inspired by

Manchester’s indie rock movement. Also appearing will be The Snuts who’s debut indie rock LP, ‘W.L.’ was launched in April 2021 and shot straight to number 1 in the charts. Adding an international injection to the rock offering are, from Sydney down under, the DMA’s who’ll bring rock ballads aplenty. Also on the bill is platinum selling artist Sophie Ellis-Bextor and neo soul empress, Mahalia. As ever, Tramlines welcomes a slew of talent from across its home city and the Yorkshire regions. The ever popular four-piece, The Sherlocks join the bill whose impressive credits include being the first unsigned band after the Arctic Monkeys to sell out the legendary independent venue, the Leadmill. The

ever-cherished singer and songwriter Lucy Spraggan who’ll deliver her folk pop signature style as seen on album number five released in 2019, and on her recent quirky cover of The Proclaimers ‘500 Miles’, plus the heavy, fast-paced indie sounds of The Reytons, the loud punk sounds of The Blinders and Sheffield favourites the Everly Pregnant Brothers renowned for their amusing spoof numbers. Other local and upcoming acts include Biig Piig, Before Breakfast and Bloxx. This is just the first wave of talent set to perform at Tramlines 2021. Festivalgoers should keep an eye out for further lineup announcements, plus further announcements from across the festival site including a brand new

venue, comedy & cabaret entertainment, fabulous food and drink offerings and much much more. Tramlines Festival will be working closely with the local authorities and following all the latest government guidance. If

for any reason the festival is not able to take place then in keeping with 2020, ticket buyers will have the option to retain their ticket for next year’s event or recieve a face value refund on their purchase prices.

kennel club issues rogue breeder warning

Following a year of emergency Covid-19 laws meaning puppies could be delivered to new homes, The Kennel Club is urging vigilance from would-be owners as domestic travel restrictions across Great Britain relax. The dog welfare organisation has always urged potential new owners to avoid buying a puppy if the seller is offering to deliver it, as this allows rogue traders and puppy farms to hide horrific breeding conditions from view. During the coronavirus pandemic however, whilst everyone was instructed to ‘stay at home’, emergency guidance meant that breeders could deliver puppies to their new homes in certain situations. With travel restrictions relaxing in Scotland from today (26 April), the final domestic easing of the travel rules within Great Britain, The Kennel Club is warning of ongoing puppy deliveries and urging more vigilance from potential new puppy owners, who should now collect their puppy from where it was bred and raised, with its littermates and mum. “Following a year of confusing and difficult Covid-19 rules for breeders, rescue organisations and potential new owners – alongside a huge demand for dogs – it’s crucial that the general public is clear on how to responsibly buy a puppy, as restrictions ease,” commented Dr Ed Hayes,

Head of Policy and Public Affairs at The Kennel Club. “If you’re buying a puppy which you’ve found online, travel restrictions across Great Britain now allow you to follow usual responsible puppy buying advice: Do not agree to have your puppy delivered to you or meet half-way. Ask for more than one virtual viewing to see where puppies have been brought up and the litter interacting with mum. Following relevant Covid guidelines, meet the breeder, puppies and mum outdoors ahead of purchase. The organisation is urging the public to stay up-to-date on guidance within their area and to follow its three top puppy buying tips as travel restrictions ease and we edge back to ‘normal’. Whilst there is nothing wrong with seeing an advert for a puppy online, always then: • See the puppy’s home environment and the puppy interacting with its mum and littermates. Do this virtually and ideally in-person, in a secure outdoor space or garden • Don’t accept a puppy being delivered to your door – rogue traders can hide behind the anonymity of the internet • Don’t pay a deposit without seeing the puppy or buy from a breeder who is trying to sell the puppy as quickly as possible – this should ring alarm bells

mums praise sheffield day centre Two mums have praised specialist day care staff at Sheffield Day Services for creating a “happy bubble” that supported their disabled children during the pandemic. Mums Mandy Gale and Caroline Hallgarth appeared on BBC Radio Sheffield to describe how the Cygnet Health Care-run facility had provided a lifeline to care for their children, including allowing Caroline – a nurse caring for patients throughout the pandemic – to work long hours. Caroline’s daughter Isabel, age 20, is nonverbal and has learning difficulties and autism, while Mandy’s son Connor has a diagnosis of autism with limited speech. Sheffield Day Services is based in Spa Lane, Woodhouse and specialises in supporting people with a learning disability, and those with complex health needs and physical disabilities. Nurse Caroline said: “I can tell when I take Isabel to the centre that she loves to go. She can go for a walk every day, she has massages on her feet, she has a two-course lunch, they play her favourite music. She loves Adele and Little Mix and has a dance to that. They read her stories and they write it all in a book for me so that I know what she’s been doing.” She added: “Other day services didn’t keep going through the pandemic. Cygnet did, and it’s made a huge difference to me.” Now that Sheffield Day Services has been able to open its doors again to service users, Caroline says staff have “gone above and beyond” to protect Isabel. “They’ve completely reassured me, they’re in full PPE. I’m not allowed in the building, I

drop her off at the door, and I know that they keep her safe.” Mum Mandy added: “Connor needs a very structured routine to lower his anxieties and all these things are met. The people that work there are an absolute joy. They’re so engaging with Connor. I couldn’t ask for anything else. It’s more than a support for Connor, it brings it all to us and we’re in a happy bubble which is all down to Cygnet and the support, and it’s amazing. We couldn’t live without them.” Talking to show host Toby Foster at BBC Radio Sheffield’s breakfast programme, Helen Ullyatt, Manager of the Sheffield Day Service, said she was overwhelmed by the praise. “It makes me feel quite emotional to be absolutely honest with you,” she said. “We were instructed to close initially in the March last year because it was deemed unsafe to stay open with the numbers in Sheffield. The staff were all redeployed at very short notice to help out in other facilities so they had to learn new roles in environments that weren’t familiar to them, but they rose to that challenge. They’re an inspiration. We’ve been keeping in contact constantly with our families, making sure they got the support. Even just a chat on the phone to someone can mean the world to a family. If they needed any shopping collecting, we could go out and get shopping for them. Then we did garden visits so the staff went out in their PPE and went on to people’s garden and did activities, to tell stories, social interactions, just so that we could keep that familiar face. That was the most important thing to us and for them.”

HECKY GETS FIRST WIN AS BOSS Paul Heckingbottom secured his first win as interim boss, as United deservedly beat Brighton & Hove Albion at Bramall Lane on Saturday night. David McGoldrick’s first-half strike, his eighth goal of the season proved decisive and the three points were exactly what the hosts merited for their efforts. For the clash against the Seagulls, United made one change, with Bogle recalled to the starting XI, replacing Ampadu who dropped to the bench. It was the home side who started the brightest, Brewster fashioned space for a shot that was blocked, before McGoldrick rose highest at the back post but his header was comfortably saved by Sanchez. But on 12 minutes, United survived a major scare at the other end. Bissouma broke decisively through the midfield and played Maupay in on goal, Fleck applied some pressure and Ramsdale saved having narrowed the angle. On 19 minutes, the Blades deservedly hit the front. Webster’s heavy touch surrendered possession, Stevens freed Osborn down the left, his cross into the area was only half cleared by Veltman and after Brewster and Groß challenged for the ball, it fell kindly for MCGOLDRICK who swept home past Sanchez. The goalscorer was then harshly booked by referee Friend, having caught Webster when looking to capitalise on a poor ball by Dunk. Having taken the lead, United continued to attack, Brewster saw an effort blocked by Dunk, before Stevens won a corner off Webster. With half-time in sight, Bissouma danced into the area after some neat play, he looked set to test Ramsdale, until Stevens made a vital interception at the expense of a corner. Brighton were now on top, Trossard advanced into the area and made space for the overlapping Moder, but a crowd of retreating defenders snuffed out the danger. There was early concern for the Blades at the beginning of the second period, as Brighton seized possession before Lallana took aim, but his effort was comfortable for Ramsdale. Both sides were keen to attack, but it was the visitors who had the next sight of goal, Welbeck was involved in the build-up, but it was Maupay who tested Ramsdale, who produced a smart save low to his right. The away side were forcing numerous corners, but United continued to defend resolutely until the 56th minute when Moder applied the finish touch in the area, thankfully though, the Polish international was adjudged offside by VAR following a short review. The game was a really open affair now, this time McGoldrick and Osborn linked up well down the left, but the former tested Sanchez on from 18 yards out. With 26 minutes remaining, Burke replaced the hardworking Brewster, but it was Brighton who continued to search for an equaliser, this time Bissouma took aim from 20 yards, but his powerful effort went inches wide. Jahanbakhsh then whipped in a cross from the right, but at full stretch, Welbeck could only head wide of the target. Moments later, Jahanbakhsh got the better of Stevens, but Maupay somehow put the ball over the bar from under the crossbar. Shortly after Bogle had a sight of goal, Baldock was booked for time-wasting before Lundstram replaced Osborn in the engine room. United gave the ball away when attacking and within seconds Izquierdi tested Ramsdale from distance before Norwood headed clear the resulting corner. As the clocked ticked down, Stevens was carded for a foul on Jahanbakhsh, but a couple of timely headers averted the danger from the resulting free-kick. Four minutes of added time were signalled, but in truth United saw it out comfortably to record a deserved success. Blades: Ramsdale, Baldock, Stevens, Fleck, Egan, Norwood, McGoldrick, Bogle, Osborn (Lundstram 81), Brewster (Burke 65), Bryan. Unused: Mousset, Lowe, Jagielka, Foderingham, Ampadu, Brunt, Gordon. Brighton: Sánchez, Webster, Dunk, Bissouma, Maupay, Trossard (Izquierdi 81), Groß (Jahanbakhsh 67), Lallana, Moder (Connolly 67), Welbeck, Veltman. Unused: Steele, Mac Allister, Alzate, , Propper, Zeqiri, Burn.

Jamie Smith said the Owls need to do whatever it takes to win our final two games after our battle against the drop received a blow in the shape of a 3-1 defeat to Middlesbrough at the Riverside. The loss to Boro means we need to win our final two games against Nottingham Forest and Derby to have a chance of remaining in the Championship. Smith was disappointed in the manner of the goals conceded on Teesside, saying the Owls need to do better.

Smith said: “I’m disappointed with the result. “I felt we should have got something out of the game with the chances we had and I’m disappointed with the goals we conceded. “A lack of concentration has cost us, we have to do better. “Recently we’ve been well organised, but today it wasn’t the case. “We’ve still got a chance mathematically so we’ll keep fighting. Whatever it takes, we have to get three points in these last two games.”

English football announces social media boycott The FA, Premier League, EFL, FA Women’s Super League, FA Women’s Championship, PFA, LMA, PGMOL, Kick It Out and the FSA will unite for a social media boycott from 15.00 on Friday 30 April to 23.59 on Monday 3 May, in response to the ongoing and sustained discriminatory abuse received online by players and many others connected to football. This has been scheduled to take place across a full fixture programme in the men’s and women’s professional game and will see clubs across the Premier League, EFL, WSL and Women’s Championship switch off their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. As a collective, the game recognises the considerable reach and value of social media to our sport. The connectivity and access to supporters who are at the heart of football remains vital. However, the boycott shows English football coming together to emphasise that social media companies must do more to eradicate online hate, while highlighting the importance of educating people in the ongoing fight against discrimination. In our letter of February 2021, English football outlined its requests of social media companies, urging filtering, blocking and swift takedowns of offensive posts, an improved verification process and re-registration prevention, plus active assistance for law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute originators of illegal content. While some progress has been made, we reiterate those requests today in an effort to stem the relentless flow of discriminatory messages and ensure that there are real-life consequences for purveyors of online abuse across all platforms. Boycott action from football in isolation will, of course, not eradicate the scourge of online discriminatory abuse, but it will demonstrate that the game is willing to take voluntary and proactive steps in this continued fight. Finally, while football takes a stand, we urge the UK Government to ensure its Online Safety Bill will bring in strong legislation to make social media companies more accountable for what happens on their platforms, as discussed at the DCMS Online Abuse roundtable earlier this week. Edleen John, The FA’s Director of International Relations, Corporate Affairs and Co-Partner for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, said: “It’s simply unacceptable that people across English football and society more broadly continue to be subjected to discriminatory abuse online on a daily basis, with no real-world consequences for perpetrators. This needs to change quickly, and we continue to urge social media companies to act now to address this. We will not stop talking about this issue and will continue to work with government in ensuring that the Online Safety Bill gives sufficient regulatory and supervisory powers to Ofcom. Social media companies need to be held accountable if they continue to fall short of their moral and social responsibilities to address this endemic problem. “We have recently seen how powerful it can be when everybody is united for the good of the English game. We are calling on organisations and individuals across the game to join us in a temporary boycott of these social media platforms, to show solidarity and unite in the message that English football will not tolerate discrimination in any form.” Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters said: “Racist behaviour of any form is unacceptable and the appalling abuse we are seeing players receive on social media platforms cannot be allowed to continue. “The Premier League and our clubs stand alongside football in staging this boycott to highlight the urgent need for social media companies to do more in eliminating racial hatred. We will not stop challenging social media companies and want to see significant improvements in their policies and processes to tackle online discriminatory abuse on their platforms. “Football is a diverse sport, which brings together communities and cultures from all backgrounds and

this diversity makes the competition stronger. No Room For Racism represents all the work we do to promote equality, diversity and inclusion and tackling discrimination.” Trevor Birch, Chief Executive of the EFL said: “EFL clubs have expressed a clear desire to take a united stand against abhorrent racist, discriminatory, and threatening abuse on social media platforms which we fully support alongside the rest of the football family. “While we recognise the value and role social media plays in our game, online abuse will not be tolerated and we will continue to strongly pursue all avenues open to us to affect change. “The boycott is only part of the work being undertaken in this area but further highlights the need for social media companies to take additional responsibility for the inappropriate and unwelcome behaviour that appears on their platforms. Simone Pound, Director of EDI at the PFA said: “Social media channels represent an extension of the working environment for professional footballers, and as the players’ union, we are committed to finding solutions that better protect our membership and the wider community from online abuse. “As part of our work to address this issue, which started with the 24-hour #Enough boycott of social media channels, the PFA has been pushing for collaboration between the platforms, the game, the Government, police and CPS to find solutions and protect players from the abuse they face daily. “In 2021, with a collective voice, we can hold social media companies to account and send a powerful message to a global audience – abusive behaviour is unacceptable.” Sanjay Bhandari, Kick It Out Chair, said: “Social media is now sadly a regular vessel for toxic abuse. This boycott signifies our collective anger at the damage this causes to the people who play, watch and work in the game. By removing ourselves from the platforms, we are making a symbolic gesture to those with power. We need you to act. We need you to create change. “We need social media companies to make their platforms a hostile environment for trolls rather than for the football family. We need the Government to hold its nerve and keep its promises to regulate. The Online Safety Bill could be a game changer and we aim to help make that happen. There should be no space for hate and everyone can play their part. If you watch, work in or love the game, join in.” Richard Bevan, Chief Executive at the LMA said: “The LMA fully supports the social media boycott across the professional game. A unified silence will send a loud and powerful message to those that perpetrate online abuse that their actions will no longer be tolerated, and to the social media companies that they have a responsibility to do everything in their power to eradicate online hate. “We also urge Government to understand the significance of this collective action and to ensure that its Online Safety Bill delivers appropriately strong legislation.” Kevin Miles, Chief Executive of the Football Supporters’ Association said: “The Football Supporters’ Association is fully behind the game’s efforts to stamp out online hate and discrimination and will join next weekend’s social media boycott. Much media attention has rightly focused on the vile abuse aimed at players, managers and journalists in the men’s and women’s game and we see that aimed at fans groups too. It has to stop. “Many of our most active fan groups tell us that they have received disgusting abuse when they are doing nothing more than trying to represent their supporter base. It’s a threat to the very existence of supporter organisations who are run by volunteers in their spare time. As fans we stand with players, managers, referees and all in the game in calling for the social media companies to step up.”
