ANOTHER STEP OUT OF LOCKDOWN The Government’s roadmap out of lockdown moved onto a further stage on Monday (17 May) as part of the country’s slow easing out of Covid restrictions. From Monday, we saw the opening of indoor hospitality including restaurants, pubs, bars and cafes. People meeting indoors with up to 6 people or 2 households (each household can include a support bubble) and outdoor gatherings of up to 30 people are now allowed. Indoor and outdoor events, including live performances, sporting events and businesses can now take place with Covid-secure measures in place. In addition, indoor and outdoor
attractions and hospitality venues including cinemas, theatres, concert halls, bowling alleys, museums, children’s indoor play areas, zoos, theme parks can all open. Saunas and steam rooms can also open. People should continue to work from home where they can. In terms of travel, holiday accommodation can open (including hotels and B&B’s) and can be used by groups of up to 6 people or two households including a bubble, if eligible. Overnight stays in England are allowed for up to 6 people or 2 households. International travel is allowed , and there’s a traffic light system that
must be followed when returning depending on whether you’re returning from a green, amber or red list country. Attendance at funerals will depend on how many people a Covid-secure venue can safely accommodate and attendance at weddings, wakes and other commemorative events will be limited to 30 people. In Sheffield City Council-run funeral buildings this will remain at 25 mourners for indoor services. Greg Fell, Director of Public Health Sheffield said: “We’re in a position now where we are beginning to get back to normal and there is a balance between this and keeping
people safe. We’ve all worked incredibly hard to get to this point and my thanks go out to people across the city for everything that they have done. We should all be feeling optimistic now! “That said, I would be lying if I were to say I’m not nervous about the next few weeks because with this easing, cases will inevitably rise. We desperately need people to remember the basics and to take it steady – it’s really important that we don’t all go overboard and muck it up now. “I am pretty optimistic overall for the next few months however because in Sheffield our vaccination rates are high, better than I could
have dreamed of. 60% of Sheffield residents have had their first dose and 25% of those people have had their second dose. The impact of this going forward is huge – the vaccination does reduce transmission. Thank you to everyone who has come forward. It has been, and still is, a huge logistical effort. “If you’re offered the vaccine take it and encourage others to all well. Get tested twice a week if you can, meet outside if possible and if you do meet inside, make sure the space is well ventilated by opening doors and windows. Social distance when in public spaces where you can and don’t share a car with other households unless they are in your bubble.”

TRAMLINES ANNOUNCE CHARITY PARTNERSHIP AND LAUNCH APPLY TO PLAY SCHEME Tramlines Festival have announced that ‘The Sarah Nulty Power of Music Foundation’ will be an official charity partner for the 2021 event and have also revealed details of their ‘Apply to Play’ scheme that will give performance slots at the festival to emerging talent. Tramlines, Sheffield’s biggest music festival, takes place at Hillsborough Park from Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th July. The first line-up announcement in April was followed by tickets selling out in record time. 2021 headliners include, The Streets, Royal Blood and Richard Ashcroft plus over 40 more acts announced so far. The Sarah Nulty Power
of Music Foundation was created in 2020 by family and friends of Sarah Nulty who was the Festival Director of Tramlines until her passing in 2018. The Foundation aims to honour Sarah’s legacy by helping socially and economically disadvantaged people in Sheffield to develop musical abilities. Initial grants were awarded to Hartley Brook Primary Academy in Shiregreen to provide free ukulele lessons, Mossbrook Primary School in Norton who bought a keyboard to support their pupils who have special educational needs and to Sheffcare Limited who funded an ‘acousmatic storytelling project’ with their care home residents.
After arriving in Sheffield as a student, Sarah worked in various iconic local bars and clubs before becoming one of the driving forces behind the creation of Tramlines in 2009. After taking the role of Festival Director in 2013, Sarah was instrumental in safeguarding the long term success of the event, overseeing many changes leading up to the move to Hillsborough Park in 2018 that has since been heralded as a huge success. Sarah received many awards posthumously including a Civic Award from the serving Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Magid Magid, an ‘Outstanding Contribution Award’ at the Independent Festival Awards and an ‘Outstanding Contribution to
Festivals’ Award from the UK Festival Awards. Julie Voisey, Chair of Trustees for The Sarah Nulty Power of Music Foundation said; ‘ We are so grateful and honoured that Tramlines have chosen the Sarah Nulty Power of music foundation as an official partner. The foundation was established as a tribute to Sarah and her love of music. Tramlines is her legacy to which she dedicated years of her life to help it become the success that it is today. She wanted to throw the biggest party Sheffield had ever seen and bring the uplifting power of music to Sheffield streets. With Tramlines support, the Power of Music Foundation can reach more people in need. Our aim is to spread
the joy of music and to enable, encourage, and guide socially and economically disadvantaged people in Sheffield to develop their musical abilities. ‘ In keeping with the theme of supporting grassroots music and offering opportunities, Tramlines has also announced the opening of their Apply To Play scheme. Slots are available across various stages at Tramlines 2021 are available and applications can be made by using a form hosted on the Tramlines website. The deadline for applications is 27th May and successful applicants will also receive a small fee for their performance. Winners in 2019 included Speed for Lovers with a uniquely
Sheffield ‘disco-not-disco’ sound influenced by the city’s clubs and nightlife and local rapper, Matic Mouth who had collaborated with Tramlines favourites, Reverend and the Makers before making his solo debut at the festival. Tramlines Festival will be working closely with the local authorities and following all the latest government guidance. If for any reason the festival is not able to take place then in keeping with 2020, ticket buyers will have the option to retain their ticket for next year’s event or recieve a face value refund on their purchase prices. sheffield celebrating foster care fortnight lockdown easing encourage anyone thinking about it to just apply what can you do? and give it a go.”
We’re celebrating the extraordinary work and dedication of local foster carers, while calling for more people to provide loving homes for Sheffield’s cared for children and young people in support of Foster Care Fortnight. Foster Care Fortnight is an annual national campaign that has been running from 10 to 24 May that aims to increase awareness of and celebrate the transformational power that fostering can have on a child or young person’s life. Fostering in Sheffield has already helped transform thousands of lives but there are still children and young people in our city who are looking for a stable home. With over 680 children and young people currently in the care of the council, we are calling on more people to foster Sheffield’s future. The theme for the awareness week this year is #WhyWeCare, so we have been speaking to a foster carer who joined us during lockdown to find out what inspired her to apply and about the positive impact it has made. Carol Stanfield, a holiday and support foster carer for 5-10 year olds, said: “I was a reading volunteer at my local primary school but then COVID came along, and I was no longer able to go into the school. I really missed the kids and I felt like I could do more. I saw the coverage of Foster Care Fortnight - this time last year - and I decided to apply. I was thrilled when I was accepted, and I am now supporting two families. I still work and most things in my life are the same. But on some weekends, it’s completely different! The kids get to have my undivided attention, so I spend a lot of time at the park or playing games and I’m becoming very familiar with Disney films! It’s great to mix up their weekends between things which are familiar to them and things which are a bit different. I think their families are appreciating the support too, I work closely with them to share information and to provide the best possible care for the child. If you think you can help a child who’s had a difficult start in life, but you’re not sure, the application process will help you work out if fostering is right for you. I
Fostering with Sheffield Council is a supportive community and most importantly, it is a chance to change a young person’s life for the better. Our service is not-for-profit so all our resources benefit our carers and children. It’s all about getting our city’s most vulnerable children into local homes where they can be safe. Paul Dempsey, Assistant Director for Children and Families Provider Service at Sheffield City Council said: “Our fantastic foster carers and the work they do make sure that the children and young people who come into care are loved, live happy lives and can achieve their full potential. By marking Foster Care Fortnight, we want to highlight the value of fostering and the positive difference it can make to young people’s lives. I hope it will increase awareness of fostering and encourage more local people to come forward to foster. I want to say a huge thank you to all the foster carers that devote their time to caring for our wonderful young people, you are all truly amazing and are really changing lives. To those people who are inspired to make a difference, please get in touch to find out more. Sheffield City Council will support you through every step of the way.” We are always looking for people to join us and it’s simple to apply to foster with us, you just need to be over 21, have experience of caring for children and have a spare bedroom in your house. Our foster carers receive a generous financial package (plus other allowances) and a comprehensive training and support package. If you’re currently a foster carer with another agency it’s really easy to transfer to us and the assessment process is typically 16 weeks. There are monthly online information evenings via zoom, where you can chat to our social workers and some of our existing foster carers as well as meet some of the fostering team. Book a place at: bit.ly/fosteringzoom If you’re interested in finding out more about fostering, please phone 0114 2735075 or visit www.sheffield.gov.uk/fostering
Nationwide, the world’s largest building society, has today announced that applications for its 2021 Community Grants Programme are now open. After a challenging year for everyone, but especially for those who are most vulnerable in our society, having a place fit to call home is more important than ever before. The programme forms part of Nationwide’s commitment to supporting communities by giving at least one per cent of its pre-tax profits to good causes. The Community Grants Programme tackles local housing issues by giving charities, community land trusts and housing co-operatives access to grants between £10,000 and £50,000. Applications are open to any organisations that provide solutions to help: 1) Prevent people from losing their home 2) Help people into a home 3) Support people to thrive within the home environment Nationwide’s Community Boards, made up of community-minded colleagues working at the building society and it’s members, come together to decide which projects should be awarded a grant, and in doing so are supporting their own communities to find solutions to the housing crisis. Beneficiaries of Community Grants include organisations that have helped to support vulnerable families with young children in crisis in Northern Ireland, supported women who have been sexually exploited to navigate the housing system in Luton and those who are
homeless and facing poverty in Kingston. There are currently 11 local Community Boards across the UK. Since 2018 Nationwide has funded 350 projects and awarded £14 million in total through the programme and in 2020/21, just under £4 million in grants were awarded to 99 projects. By 2023, £22 million will have been awarded in total. This year Nationwide is capping the amount of Community Grant applications it will accept, meaning approximately one in four applicants will be successful. If the cap isn’t reached, applications will close at 11pm on Monday 21 June. Rachel Smith, Senior Social Investment Manager at Nationwide Building Society, said: “The last year has been exceptionally challenging for many of us, but if there’s one thing it’s taught us, it’s the value and importance of community. Since 2018, our Community Grants Programme has supported charitable organisations seeking to make a difference to vulnerable people facing housing challenges across the UK. Everyone should have a place fit to call home which is why our Community Grants Programme is so important to us. As a member owned organisation, we have always seen it as our place to help facilitate positive changes in local communities, and we are encouraging charities to apply to our Community Grants programme.” For more information about the scheme and to apply, visit: www.nationwidecommunitygrants.co.uk.

Q: With nightclubs now able to repurpose as bars, what are the rules around dancing? A: In nightclubs opening as bars, customers must be seated to order and be served, as well as consume food or drink. Guidance currently advises that operators should maintain social distancing when providing entertainment and prevent entertainment that is likely to increase transmission risk, including communal dancing. Q: Will pubs and venues be able to host live music events? A: Guidance does not prohibit live music events. Where possible avoid or discourage audiences cheering, chanting and singing along and lower the volume of music to a level that allows customers to converse without raising their voices. Q: Can I go to a gaming arcade or a bingo hall? A: Yes, you can. You may find your experience slightly different due to Covid guidelines. Q: Can I host a work or social event for more than 6 people at a venue? A: Work gathering for social purposes (e.g. a work party) and private dining events for social purposes are only permitted within the social contact rules. Business meetings can take place if for genuine work purposes, and not social events, with unlimited numbers. Business events (such as conferences, trade shows, exhibitions) and ticketed private dining events (such as charity or gala dinners and awards ceremonies). Again, the usual social distancing measures apply as do table service rules for venues which generally serve alcohol (unless an exemption applies). Q: If I’m booking a venue for a social event of 6 to 30 people, will I be required to prove the purpose of the event? A: The venue has a duty to ensure guests of the gathering are there for the previously specified purpose. Q: Are there any other significant life events that qualify for increasing the size of bookings? A: Guidance states that a ‘significant life event’ is a ceremony, rite or ritual that celebrates a milestone in a person’s life, according to their religion or belief (e.g. a Bar Mitzvah or Christening). A birthday does not fall into this definition, nor does an engagement or leaving party. Events allowed include marriages or civil partnerships and related receptions, commemorative and significant life events (no more than 30 people) and parent & child and support groups (up to 15 people). Q: What steps can a venue take to prevent groups from

Can customers be ejected from a venue for mixing? A: A venue can remove or refuse entry to customers who are not complying with social distancing or refuse to provide NHS Test and Trace contact details. Q: Can I sit at the bar in a venue, or do I have to sit at a table to be served? A: As long as customers are seated, they can be served in any area of the premises. This includes bar seating. However you may find that sitting at the bar is not currently allowed at a particular premises. Q: Do venues have the option to set up extra seating to cater for customers who wish to watch live sport and entertainment? A: Provided appropriate spacing is maintained, venues can set up additional seating. Q: How loud can music be in venues? A: Music should be kept at a level as to not encourage shouting, singing or chanting. Q: How do the rules concern smoking? Can I smoke with others outside my group of 6? A: Customers can continue to smoke outdoors. However, licensees have an obligation to prevent groups mixing. Customers can only drink and eat whilst seated. Q: Can I play gaming machines, pool or darts at a venue? A: Yes, there is no prohibition against these activities. However, venues should make the decision themselves as to whether use of gaming machines and indoor games can be played within the spirit of the guidance. Q: Can venues offer buffet / carvery service food or catering for customers or events? A: If you generally serve alcohol at the premises, table service is required and you cannot offer a typical buffet service as customers will need to order, be served, and consume food and drink whilst seated. However you may provide a carvery service where the customer orders a carvery meal option whilst seated, then chooses their carvery options from the carvery deck (wearing face covering and socially distancing) which is plated by staff. If your premises do not offer alcohol, then you may offer buffet/ carvery service in the usual way, but your customers should be seated when consuming food.

Outdoor Hospitality Grant announced A new Outdoor Hospitality Grant will shortly be available to Sheffield businesses who have invested in their outdoor premises to welcome back customers outside. The grant applies to those businesses who are already open for outdoor hospitality and for businesses that are planning to open outdoor spaces but have not yet done so. Businesses must be from the hospitality, accommodation, leisure, and entertainment sectors and be able to demonstrate an outdoor hospitality offer. Businesses should act now to prepare relevant invoices and quotes in readiness for applying when the scheme goes live next week. Grants will be distributed on a first come, first served basis, so businesses are encouraged to prepare to apply now. Grants will be awarded for costs associated with adapting a business to increase capacity for outdoor hospitality, following the Roadmap announcement on 22nd February 2021 or for planned spend on outdoor hospitality in the coming weeks. Spend must be completed by 21st June 2021. There are no automatic payments for the new Outdoor Hospitality Grants; whereas automatic payments have been made to businesses for forced closure grants, this is a new scheme which requires a new application. Applications at 2pm on Tuesday 18th May on
the Sheffield City Council website, here: www. sheffield.gov.uk/outdoorhospitalitygrant. Grant payments of between £1,000 and £3,000 will be awarded to cover either 100% of the costs or to part-fund larger costs (up to a maximum total spend of £20,000). The funding will be tied to specific items of expenditure either planned or already paid for and can also be used to part-fund items. There are limits on the number of awards that can be made to a business: one grant per premises and a maximum of 3 premises per business.
Applications for funding must be made for specific items, such as: • Shelters and gazebos • Tables and chairs • Decking and platforms • Planters • Marquees (purchase or hire) • Payment terminals • Signage • Lighting and costs associated with the installation of eligible items
• • •
Invoices for eligible costs dated after 22nd February 2020 A bank statement to verify bank details Evidence of invoices being paid or valid quotes (where costs have not yet been incurred)
Businesses can apply to use the public highway or footway immediately outside or adjacent to their premises to deliver outdoor hospitality through the Council’s Temporary Pavement Café Licence scheme. This is free of charge and allows businesses to use outdoor furniture in these areas. More information on the Pavement Café Licence can be found here: https://www. sheffield.gov.uk/pavementcafes.
For support and advice on accessing the Outdoor Hospitality Grant, please contact Business Sheffield on telephone 0114 224 5000 or email businesssheffield@sheffield.gov.uk. Businesses wishing to stay informed with the latest updates should sign up to Sheffield City Council’s email alert service and follow Business Sheffield and Sheffield City Council’s social media channels. Sheffield City Council’s Reopening Guide for Businesses has been updated to reflect the changes in guidance for Step 3 from 17th May. Access the guide here: https://www.sheffield. gov.uk/coronavirus-business#guide
Heaters, licenses, legal fees, and wage costs are not eligible for funding. Businesses will be required to submit evidence as part of their application, including:

DREAM FIRST START FOR BLADES TEENAGER What a night it was for the Blades and teenager Daniel Jebbison on Merseyside on Sunday. The 17-year-old on his first senior start scored an early goal that proved to be the winner, as United earnt a richly deserved second away win of the campaign. For the clash at Goodison Park, United handed a first Premier League start to 17-year-old Jebbison, who replaced the injured Burke in attack. Osborn and Jack Robinson also started, replacing Berge and Bryan in the starting XI. On a soggy night on Merseyside, United made the perfect start on seven minutes. Stevens and Osborn combined on the left before Robinson evaded the challenge of Allan, he fired low and hard across goal and JEBBISON was perfectly positioned to apply the finishing touch from close-range, to score his first senior goal. The hosts looked for an instant response, but Calvert-Lewin saw a shot
blocked at the expense of a corner, before Ramsdale made a good save diving away to his right to deny Allan. Everton were now the ones creating the chances, but CalvertLewin’s header from Digne’s cross was easy for Ramsdale to collect. There was a moment of concern on 24 minutes as VAR checked a possible handball against a retreating Robinson as he blocked a cross from Coleman, the ball did strike his arm, but it was deemed unintentional. Basham was booked for a firm challenge on Digne, VAR again checked the decision of referee Moss, but the initial punishment wasn’t upgraded. As the half hour approached, United got back on the front foot. McGoldrick saw a shot blocked by Holgate, before Fleck stung the palms of Pickford who turned it away for a corner which came to nothing. Then United, through Jebbison had a
A MESSAGE FROM OWLS CAPTAIN BARRY BANNAN It’s been a hard few days, nobody wants to get relegated, especially a big club like this. Saturday was the worst day when I got home, I was watching TV but not really concentrating. People would try and speak to me but you’d just blank out. Like I say, nobody wants to get relegated in football and the situation makes it worse, because if we had won we would have stayed up, so that’s even harder to take. We gave our all but we came up short, and that’s been the story of the season to be honest. There’s no doubt about the commitment side of things, but the quality has let us down during parts of the season when we needed it. The dressing room was a quiet and sad place after the game. But the gaffer spoke really well after, as he always does, being positive and trying to lift everybody up. But at that time, I don’t think any words help the way you feel. Everything goes out of the window because at that time your emotions take the better of you and I was really sad, as was everyone in the dressing room. There’s six or seven weeks to stew over it and grow from it now. I think we have to look at last season and learn from it, it shouldn’t ever happen again. We had enough chances
golden opportunity to score a second. The teenager latched on to Holgate’s short back pass, but Pickford stood tall to save. But before half-time, it was Ramsdale who kept the Blades in front. Rodriguez had fired a warning shot moments earlier, before the stopper excellently denied Richarlison with a header from a Rodriguez cross before unbelievably recovering to divert Calvert-Lewin’s effort behind on the rebound. Right on the whistle, Richarlison blazed over from twelve yards, having found a rare hole in the Blades backline. The opening quarter of an hour in the second period were quiet to say the least, with a couple of corners for the home side the only moments of worry. Norwood’s free-kick after Fleck had been fouled was inviting at the other end, but despite rising highest, Egan headed over. The home side threatened and won a corner as Ramsdale
denied Richarlison from a tight angle. But it was the Blades continuing to push for a second. McGoldrick saw a shot blocked by Keane and from the resulting corner, Egan’s header was deflected into the air before a foul was committed on Pickford. The clock was ticking in United’s favour, but Robinson was carded for
to get ourselves out of it and now we need to grow and become stronger from it, as men and as players. No doubt there will be a lot of changes this summer, that’s for the manager and the chairman to go through. It’ll be a big change to the last couple of seasons, but I think a reshuffle is what is needed at this time. I think it’s a massive boost for the club to have Darren Moore as manager. If there are any positives to take from this season, he would probably be the biggest one. His staff have been unbelievable too, they’ve been one of the best sets of managers and coaches I’ve worked with. Their ideas and how they want to go about things are second to none and it’s a big positive for the club moving forward. As captain, I want to apologise to the fans on behalf of all the players. We gave our all but we weren’t good enough and just fell short. But we want to thank you for your support, you’ve been brilliant with us even without being in the stadium, we could still feel that support from afar. It’s important you stick with the club and hopefully we can get the club back to where we want to be. Hopefully, with the manager we have in place, we can get back to winning ways and next season can be an enjoyable one for the fans. This season has been strange for everyone, we missed our fans, most players would say the same but with the fan base we have here I think we have missed them more than most, because we know how good our fans can be. Getting you all back to Hillsborough next season will be great and massively important to help the team thrive. BARRY BANNAN
time wasting with a couple of minutes remaining. Three minutes of added time were signalled and the home side won a corner but from Sigurdsson’s delivery, Godfrey headed over and the Blades more than deserved the three points. Everton: Pickford, Coleman, Holgate (Sigurdsson 45), Keane, Godfrey, Digne, Allan,
Doucouré (Gomes 78), Richarlison, Rodriguez (Bernard 78), CalvertLewin.
Blades: Ramsdale, Baldock, Stevens, Fleck, Basham, Egan, Norwood, McGoldrick, Robinson, Osborn, Jebbison. Unused: Lundstram, Lowe, Jagielka, Foderingham, Bogle, Brewster, Bryan, Brunt, Gordon.

Retained list Wellens: this club has so much confirmed by Millers potential Richie Wellens says he’s looking forward to helping Rovers reach their potential as a football club after being appointed as the new first-team manager. Wellens was appointed on Monday, having made 199 appearances for Rovers across two spells during his playing days. He said: “I know what this football club can be. I have to thank Gavin Baldwin, David Blunt and Terry Bramall for making me feel so comfortable from the first interview, coming out of the that made me want it even more. “I’m delighted that they have given me the job and the opportunity to take the club forward. “This is a football club that helped me develop as a player so I want to do the same as a manager.” After holding early discussions with current members of the playing squad, Wellens says he will look to complement those already in the building. He added: “It’s not going to be a complete rebuild because we’ve got some good players here, the experienced lads have an important role to play. “I’ve met a couple of them already and I’m really looking forward to getting to know the group we have here. “The job now is to recruit the right people and players, we want them to have good footballing intelligence. I want the fans to be able to come here after working all week and enjoy the football on display.”
Rotherham United have submitted their retained list to the EFL ahead of the 2021/22 campaign. The club can confirm Billy Jones, Shaun MacDonald, Jamie Proctor, Clark Robertson and Kyle Vassell will depart AESSEAL New York Stadium upon the expiry of their contracts on 30th June 2021. Meanwhile, the management team have opened discussions with right-back Matt Olosunde and goalkeeper Josh Vickers – whose deals are also set to expire at the end of next month – about the prospect of extending their stay in South Yorkshire. Forward Proctor will depart the club following a four-year stay with the Millers, while 2019/20 promotion-winners MacDonald, Robertson, Vassell and Jones will also leave when their deals expire. Loan players Lewis Wing, George Hirst, Jamal Blackman, Ryan Giles and Florian Jozefzoon will all return to their parent clubs, following the conclusion of their loan spells with the Millers. Rotherham United manager Paul Warne expressed his appreciation to the outgoing members of his 2020/21 squad and thanked them for their efforts in a Rotherham United shirt. “It goes without saying that it is a sad time of the year when the team splits up, you never get the same dressing room the following year,” Warne told www.themillers. co.uk. “The lads who are leaving have all played a part in previous seasons and I would like to place on record my thanks to each and every one of them for their efforts during their time with us. “We ask a lot of our players here and they are always happy to step up and perform for our great club and our town. On behalf of the players, staff and supporters at Rotherham United, I would like to sincerely thank each and every one of them and wish them nothing but success for the future. “On behalf of everyone at Rotherham United would like to thank each and every player for their contributions to the club during their time at AESSEAL New York Stadium, and we wish them all the best for the future.”
