Economic support must remain if restrictions stay in place URGES SY MAYOR DAN JARVIS Responding to the delay in the easing of lockdown, Dan Jarvis, Mayor of South Yorkshire says economic support must stay in place for businesses and people on furlough. “The pandemic has been hard on all of us, but it’s been particularly tough for businesses and people on furlough who have been living with uncertainty for months. With the worrying rise in infection rates, the need

for a cautious approach is understood, not least to ensure more people get vaccinated. But this crisis is not just a health crisis, it’s an economic one, and any delay to the lockdown roadmap must be accompanied by the right support.” Quarterly rent on commercial properties is due on June 23 and from July 1 businesses will no longer be protected from

eviction. From July, the government contribution to the furlough scheme is to be reduced to 70%.

Mayor Jarvis continued: “It’s been a horrendous year for hospitality and for the music and entertainment industry, many of our venues in South Yorkshire have not been able to open for well over a year. Vast amounts of preparation will already have gone into getting

ready to reopen on June 21. Many will have sold tickets, bought stock and hired staff in preparation. If restrictions remain, then support must remain too.

That means no drop in furlough payments, no change to business rates relief and no lifting of the safeguards preventing evictions.”

Roxy reunion rescheduleD Dancefloor-starved Sheffielders are being urged to hang onto their tickets for a re-scheduled “reunion to remember”. Yesterday’s Government’s decision to delay the easing of full lockdown restrictions by four weeks has left ‘Back To The Roxy - The Reunion’ promoters with no choice but to move the event back two months. The party has now been re-scheduled for Saturday, August 21st, with all original tickets still valid. Over half the tickets for the “Back To The Roxy” event were snapped up just days after the date was announced just a few

weeks ago. The event, which recreates one of Sheffield’s most famous nightclubs, promises to be “the reunion of a lifetime” and is now set to take place just four weeks after the scheduled full lifting of lockdown restrict. Few venues were more high profile than Sheffield’s Roxy nightclub that operated in the city in the 1980s and 1990s. The nightclub became famous nationally as one of the venues for the ‘Hitman & Her’ TV series. Everyone from Kylie Minogue to the London Boys performed there. Dirty Stop Outs’ Neil An-

derson – who is helping organise the ‘Back To The Roxy’ event - said: “It’s regretful that we’ve had to move the date yet again but safety – as always – is our number one priority and the delay in the lifting of full restrictions meant our original date couldn’t go ahead. “We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received from the ‘Back To The Roxy’ fans in holding on to their tickets and we promise a night you will never forget when we finally get back together! “Demand for tickets has been truly unprecedented and we’re confident our

‘Back to The Roxy’ event will still be one of the biggest parties Sheffield has ever seen.” The reunion event is also set to raise hundreds for the region’s most needy kids through its support of Hallam FM’s Cash For Kids. The party is set to take place in the Roxy venue’s former Arundel Street home which is now the 02 Academy. The ‘Back To The Roxy’ event follows the success of a similar night back in 2019. Tickets are £10 and available from https://www. gigantic.com

“the chief” speaks landmark changes to rules announced out on national to mark world blood donor day coaching week Former Sheffield United striker Wayne Allison hails the value of coaching for positive change Following England Manager Gareth Southgate’s personal and heartfelt address to fans calling for unity ahead of the start of Euro 2020, Technical Director at the League Managers Association and former Sheffield United player Wayne Allison has commended the strength of coaches – and believes they will be one of the driving forces for change in sport. A coach himself with Chester, Bury, Tranmere Rovers and Bradford, and on the board at UK Coaching, Allison has seen first-hand the exceptional and often undervalued work that coaches across the nation do. As Southgate stood firm on issues of moral importance to his squad while simultaneously calling on fans to get behind the team - Allison sees this coaching leadership as the future for positive change. “Leadership is one of the core values of coaching – positive and productive things happen when you can provide people with the right education, the right support for their development,” he said.”I believe that coaches are fundamental to the recovery of our nation. We know they are at the centre of communities because grassroots clubs are the heartbeat of sport.” He added: “The coaching workforce has shown tremendous resilience throughout the pandemic, and now moving forward as we rebuild, we are seeing the same innovation, creativity, and adaptability that has helped people through some of the most difficult times in recent memory. People never forget coaches that have had a profound impact on their lives.” Allison is not alone on the value he places on coaches. New research from UK Coaching has shown the vital work coaches deliver is being understood and appreciated more than ever, with over two thirds (69%) of the nation believing it is important for society to value the role that coaches and instructors play in keeping local communities active. And with so many coaches at the top making a visible impact, he believes it is essential grassroots coaches are supported and invested in also, to ensure the impact of coaching is felt in every community. “Any support that empowers our coaches and helps them continue to deliver the brilliant work they are doing is hugely positive,” he said. “Great coaches change lives, and there are so many of these coaches in the UK who deliver outstanding experiences, convince people to stay in sport when they otherwise would have quit, and help develop young people to be the best they can be.” Despite the clear positive impact that coaches are having, and Allison’s belief that they will continue to be of huge importance in national recovery post-pandemic, coaches have expressed concerns that they aren’t receiving the support they need in order to continue playing this vital role in communities. With the Covid-19 pandemic causing many people to consider the need to be fitter and more active, nearly 6 in 10 (57%) of coaches surveyed are concerned about the increased cost of facilities and almost half (48%) said they needed to offer lower-priced activities to enable wider access. With a seemingly unanimous agreement that coaches are vital to people’s physical and mental wellbeing, as a UK Coaching board member Allison will be hoping the nation rallies behind those who are doing exceptional community work – to put them at the forefront of the pandemic rebuild. New eligibility rules that will allow more men who have sex with men to donate blood, platelets and plasma come into effect this week, marking an historic move to make blood donation more inclusive while keeping blood just as safe. From Monday 14th June – World Blood Donor Day – the questions asked of everyone when they come to donate blood in England, Scotland and Wales will change. Eligibility will be based on individual circumstances surrounding health, travel and sexual behaviours evidenced to be at a higher risk of sexual infection. Donors will no longer be asked if they are a man who has had sex with another man, removing the element of assessment that is based on the previous population-based risks. Instead, any individual who attends to give blood - regardless of gender - will be asked if they have had sex and, if so, about recent sexual behaviours. Anyone who has had the same sexual partner for the last three months will be eligible to donate. The changes to the re-named Donation Safety Check form* will affect blood, plasma and platelet donors. The process of giving blood will not change. Ella Poppitt, Chief Nurse for Blood Donation at NHS Blood and Transplant, said: “Patient safety is at the heart of everything we do. This change is about switching around how we assess the risk of exposure to a sexual infection, so it is more tailored to the individual. We screen all donations for evidence of significant infections, which goes hand-inhand with donor selection to maintain the safety of blood sent to hospitals. All donors will now be asked about sexual behaviours which might have increased their risk of infection, particularly recently acquired infections. This means some donors might not be eligible on the day but may be in the future. Our priority is to make sure that donors are able to answer the pre-donation questions in a setting that makes them feel comfortable and safe and donation is something that continues to make people feel amazing. Our staff have been trained to make sure these more personal conversations are conducted with care and sensitivity and accurate information is captured. We are asking all blood, plasma and platelet donors to please consider the new questions alongside the existing health and travel questions before their appointment, and to re-schedule if they do not meet the changed criteria to donate right now. We want donation to be a positive experience and we are looking forward to welcoming donors as we move forward with these changes.” Under the changes people can donate if they have had the same sexual partner for the last three months, or if they have a new sexual partner with whom they have not had anal sex, and there is no known recent exposure to an STI or recent use of PrEP or PEP. This will mean more men who have sex with men will be eligible to donate. Anyone who has had anal sex with a new partner or with multiple partners in the last three months will be not be able to give blood right now but may be eligible in the future. Donors who have been recently treated for gonorrhoea will be deferred. Anyone who has ever received treatment for syphilis will not be able to give blood. The changes follow an evidence-based review** into individualised criteria by the FAIR (For the Assessment of Individualised Risk) steering group led by NHS Blood and Transplant. FAIR concluded on a new donor selection system which is fairer and will also maintain the UK’s status as one of the safest blood supplies in the world. The findings were accepted in full by the government last December. Data around the impact of the donor selection changes will

be kept under review and assessed 12 months after implementation to determine if changes are needed. Feedback from donors, LGBT+ individuals, patients and representatives will be a key consideration in this review. These changes come at a time when demand for blood is increasing. This year, as life and the NHS start to return to normal, patients need blood donors more than ever. Ethan Spibey, founder of FreedomToDonate, said: “After many years of campaigning, and working with the UK’s blood services, we are delighted that this change is now coming into effect. Thanks to the work of dedicated individuals and charities alongside NHSBT, the UK now has one of the world’s most progressive blood donation policies and more people than ever will be able to safely donate blood. The work of the FAIR steering group shows that simply being a man who has sex with men is not a good enough reason to exclude someone from donating blood. This is more than just about a fairer and more inclusive system, it’s about those who rely on blood, and giving blood literally saves lives. I would encourage anyone who is able to safely donate blood to register to do so.” Professor Eamonn Ferguson, University of Nottingham, said: “I am very proud to be part of the FAIR project, which when the changes recommended by the project come into effect in June 2021 will mean that any individual who attends to give blood – regardless of gender or sexuality – will be assessed for eligibility against sexual behaviour risks and deferred if found to be at a higher risk of infection. “ Become a blood donor. Register today and book and appointment by calling 0300 123 23 23, downloading the GiveBloodNHS app, or visiting www.blood.co.uk If you have been deferred because of previous guidelines and would like to donate, please call NHS Blood and Transplant on 0300 123 23 23. One of our team can review the new guidelines with you and, if eligible, book your next appointment. You can also donate plasma for antibody medicines that are used to save the lives of people with rare immune diseases - potential plasma donors should call 0300 123 23 23

the outdoor city

Sheffield is set to celebrate its reputation as The Outdoor City this summer as the council launches a new campaign to encourage people to enjoy all the city has to offer in the coming months. Summer in The Outdoor City (SITOC) will showcase events taking place across the city, from the city centre to local districts, as lockdown eases and Sheffield continues its Covid-19 recovery. The campaign will be part of a series of initiatives designed to welcome back visitors and drive footfall to the city centre and local high streets; supporting local businesses to recover from the pandemic and encouraging people to enjoy the great experiences Sheffield has to offer; from shopping and eating to our unique arts and culture scene. As well as encouraging residents to begin to explore Sheffield again, the campaign will also focus on promoting the city as a ‘staycation’ destination for 2021, highlighting the benefits of visiting Sheffield for a summer getaway. Alongside promoting the city’s headline events, such as the Fringe at Tramlines and Cliffhanger, new schemes aimed at encouraging people to support their local businesses will also be trialled. For example, a pilot of an ‘alfresco avenue’ on Division Street will go ahead – emphasising the area’s outdoor hospitality offering and utilising the Council’s £2m Economic Recovery Fund to breathe life back into the city centre and local communities with a series of business-led projects. The first wave of projects to be funded by the Economic Recovery Fund includes plans to rejuvenate the streetscapes of Walkley, Broomhill, Firth Park, Hillsborough and Totley to make the areas exciting and attractive places for visitors, as well as plans to extend The Children’s Hospital Charity Trust’s successful Bear Trail to some of these district centres.

LIVE MUSIC INDUSTRY BODY URGES GOVERNMENT TO DEPLOY PLANS FOR THE RECOVERY OF VENUES After months of uncertainty, conflicting political briefings and careful planning from the industry, this week’s announcement of a delay to Step 4 of the Government’s roadmap comes as a hammer blow to the live music industry. There remains uncertainty over whether the industry should plan to restart later in summer or not at all, whether there will still be requirements for limited capacity, and how the Government plans to support the sector financially as it remains closed over the following weeks. July is one of the biggest months for the live music season, with millions of fans traditionally attending events across the country. If the Government is to avoid decimating the live music industry long term, it must set out a clear plan so that industry is able to stage large scale events safely, as we learn to live with the new normal outside the grip of the worst impacts of the pandemic. This must start with the publication of the Events Research Programme findings – which demonstrated through events such as the BRIT Awards at the O2 and an outdoor festival event in Liverpool for 5,000 people, that a simple Covid-certification system with the right mitigations and risk assessments results in safe events for those attending. LIVE remains astounded that the findings have never published in full, given their centrality to the reopening of live events. This data must be published immediately so that the sector is able to see on what basis the Government is making decisions about the industry’s future, and so that we can play a collaborative role in future proofing live events for years to come. If there is to be a one-month delay, the Government must spend that time ensuring there is a simple Covid certification scheme in place by the end of it to ensure that full capacity events can go ahead, as they are now doing in other countries such the US, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands. Businesses remain unable to plan or proceed in any meaningful way, leaving them hamstrung as part of an industry in limbo. With hundreds of millions of pounds of the Culture Recovery Fund left unallocated within Government, this needs to be pushed out to the music and live entertainment industries urgently to tide the sector over until a concrete way forward is agreed. Greg Parmley, CEO of LIVE, said: “Following more than a year of confusion, lost revenue and cancellations, we are devastated the Government has not set out any clear path for the

restart of the live music industry. The Government has been quick to talk up the success of the vaccine rollout, but other countries are now ahead of us in opening up full capacity events with simple Covid certification processes, including the Netherlands, Belgium and the US. “The Government must also provide urgent emergency financial support to those impacted by today’s decision. There are hundreds of millions of pounds from the much-vaunted Culture Recovery Fund unallocated, despite being 15 months on from the start of the crisis. This money needs to get into the industry without any more delay.” Lucy Noble, Chair of the National Arenas Association said: “It is devastating for the live music sector that we continue to be hit with arbitrary restrictions which make live events unviable. The Events Research Group pilot events were supposed to be the key to getting back to full capacity live performance, and we understand that there were only 15 cases out of 58,000 attendees – although government is refusing to either publish the full report or to allow the sector to open up with the carefully planned precautions which we have been planning and putting in place for months.” Jonathan Brown, Chief Executive, Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers said: STAR’s members will once again work tirelessly to help ensure that disappointed fans still get to see the events they have booked for, if they can be rescheduled. However, the consequence of this further delay to full re-opening on all corners of the live entertainment industries needs urgent recognition and Government support if there is not to be irrevocable damage to a major employer, accounting for tens of thousands of jobs, a major revenue provider contributing billions of pounds to the Exchequer, and a globally recognised flagship of the UK’s cultural and tourism offering. Paul Reed, Chief Executive, Association of Independent Festivals said: “AIF understands the rationale for delaying Step 4 of the lockdown roadmap. However, any measures that prevent festivals from operating fully have to be counterbalanced with effective support to ensure businesses can survive. For those festival organisers that still have a chance of staging events after July 19, that support is Government-backed insurance, which

5000 revellers attended the Outdoor Festival Test Event in Liverpool last month

will give them the confidence to continue planning and commit the significant costs that entails. We also must not forget those festivals that have already been forced to cancel or will do so as a result of the delay – they will need a swift and comprehensive financial package to help them survive until the 2022 sales cycle”

Andy Lenthall, General Manager, Production Services Association said: “The live events sector has worked tirelessly with Government to create guidance and run self-funded test events to ensure a safe return to full opening, there has been no data that shows a well organised event is more dangerous than going to a supermarket, a cricket match or singing in the enclosed concourse at Wembley Stadium. It is abundantly clear that current increases in cases are not connected with live events, yet this sector is being harmed further by the delayed return to activity. “Our members, the suppliers to well organised, professional live events, have once again been left without any indication of how they will be supported whilst the sectors they serve are shuttered by Government.”

Greg Marshall, General Manager, Association for Electronic Music said: “The Government decision to delay all clubs and live events re-opening at full capacity for another month seems out-of-step with preliminary findings from the Events Research Programme which indicate that events can return safely if the correct safety protocols are in place. This delay will seriously impact the sector and must be accompanied by effective financial support for the businesses and individuals affected.” Mark Davyd, Chief Executive, Music Venues Trust said: “The government needs to act immediately to prevent hundreds of potential grassroots music venue closures. That action must be swift and robust, getting financial support to people who desperately need it, extending repayment options for loans, cancelling Business Rates and extending support schemes such as furlough and SEISS. The government has made a decision that places jobs, livelihoods, businesses and premises at risk, the government can manage that damage by decisive action that restores confidence to the sector.”

Soapwatch Soap fans will be able to binge episodes online during the Euros. Coronation Street, Emmerdale and EastEnders will all have episodes online as boxsets during the Euros, which will be televised from 11th June to 11th July. EastEnders bosses have revealed that they will stream episodes on BBC iPlayer, with all four episodes dropping weekly on Mondays from 14th June for three consecutive weeks. Jon Sen, Executive Producer said: “Giving EastEnders viewers the ability to decide when they drop in on all things Albert Square is something we’re excited about. With the inevitable scheduling changes due to the Euros, box setting all four episodes will ensure everyone gets their dose of drama and football fans won’t miss out.” Emmerdale and Coronation Street follow suit. Both ITV soaps will also be affected by the Euros and episodes of Emmerdale and Coronation Street will be added as boxsets on ITV Hub. Just like EastEnders, episodes will drop weekly on Mondays so fans have the choice to binge watch or savour them across the week. Emmerdale and Coronation Street will also air on TV as usual between evening football matches. Coronation Street’s producer Iain MacLeod said: “There are loads of key rivalries across the cobbles this summer. I think it will be like following your favourite team – there will be times where they let you down, make mistakes and maybe score a few own goals.” Emmerdale has teased that a series of gripping storylines with focus on some of their most formidable female characters. An insider promised: “In amongst this drama there is wedding day confusion when Leyla sees Liam’s former fiancé Bernice dressed in her old wedding dress on her actual wedding day. What is Bernice thinking? Surely Liam’s not going to have a change of heart at the last minute?” It definitely sounds like the soaps will be worth binge watching online this summer!

Follow Your Local Team Every Week In The Mercury Ramsdale to join England squad Congratulations to goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on further international recognition at senior level. Ramsdale has replaced Dean Henderson in England’s UEFA EURO 2020 squad. Former Blades loanee Henderson withdraws with a hip issue that would continue to limit his involvement in training throughout the tournament.

Blades to extend adidas deal Global sportswear giant adidas has extended its partnership with Sheffield United FC for

Under UEFA regulations, squads are permitted to replace goalkeepers on medical grounds at any stage. The Manchester United goalkeeper will now return to his club for further assessment and rehabilitation ahead of the 2021/22 season. Ramsdale was originally a member of Gareth Southgate’s pretournament group in Middlesbrough having

played for England at this year’s UEFA U21 EURO in Slovenia in March. The 23-year-old, a 2017 UEFA U19 EURO winner, will now follow standard Covid-19 testing protocol before entering the camp. A graduate of United’s Shirecliffe Academy, Ramsdale made 42 appearances last term, including every Premier League fixture, scooping two Player of the Year awards in the process.

the forthcoming 2021/22 Season. The previous six-year contract was due to expire at the end of the 2020/21 campaign, but the new agreement ensures adidas will continue to provide its innovative designs for Blades men’s and women’s teams for another season as a minimum. Stephen Bettis CEO for Sheffield United said of the extension “We are very

happy to be extending our kit sponsorship with adidas - they are an excellent partner for the football club and we feel the quality of kit they provide across all areas of the business from the first team through to our retail operation is exceptional. Gavin Young, VP Sales, adidas North Europe said: “We are immensely proud of our on-going association with Sheffield United

City puts rivalries aside to back Bears of Sheffield

Football Club and are delighted to be extending our partnership. “The club has experienced an exciting few years whilst playing in our kit, impressing football fans across the world and we look forward to building on that success in the season to come as committed supporters of the club and their fans.”

Ogbene makes history as he earns first Republic of Ireland cap

Generous Owls Wellens delighted with support SWFCCP Close addition

Flying winger Chiedozie Ogbene made history on the international stage for Ireland last Tuesday night with his appearance as a substitute against Hungary which saw him become the first African-born player to represent their senior side. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, the Millers attacker lived in Cork from the age of eight-years-old and made his way in football in Ireland with Cork City and Limerick before being picked up by Brentford on English shores. Ogbene received the fantastic news of his first callup earlier in the summer and has since enjoyed the experience of being a part of Ireland’s training camp, but until last night had yet to taste any match action for the Boys in Green. With 89 minutes on the clock and the game finely-poised at 0-0, that all changed as Ireland boss Stephen Kenny sent on Ogbene, who very nearly made even more history with his first touch. In a fashion typical of the Millers attacker, he was keen to make his mark on the game and came so close to a last gasp winner for the Emerald Isle as he drove an effort into the side netting from inside the penalty area. Everyone at Rotherham United would like to congratulate Chieo on his first cap for his country.

Richie Wellens says he’s pleased to bring Ben Close in as his first signing as Rovers boss. The 24-year-old joined Rovers on a three-year-deal on Monday, and Wellens was delighted to get the deal done. He said: “I think he ticks a lot of boxes. He’s 24 years-old and has good experience at this level from playing at a big club with high expectations. “He’s won the EFL Trophy and played in the play-offs, he’s at a stage of his career where he wanted to try something new. “He’s got almost 200 games under his belt and is technically very good so to have him in is brilliant for us.” Wellens says the fact that Close was willing to move away from Portsmouth for the first time in his career shows his commitment to signing for the club. He added: “He wants to be at this club and is prepared to move himself and his partner up which shows how much he wants to be here. “He scores goals from midfield but I think he’s got more to give, we’ll give him that freedom to play and improve himself.”

The Wise Old Owls have raised £1,700 for the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme in memory of a beloved member of their group. Jean Preen, wife of WOO chairman John, sadly passed away in February after many years of dedication to the long-standing supporters club. In Jean’s memory, the Wise Old Owls created a fundraising page with all proceeds benefitting Wednesday’s charitable arm. Supporters generously backed the campaign and raised £1,700, all of which will aid the SWFCCP’s work in the local community. Marcus Brameld, Community Manager at SWFCCP, said: “We want to say a massive thank you to the Wise Old Owls and everybody who donated for their support. “All of us at the club were very sad to hear of Jean’s passing after many years of service to the Wise Old Owls and Sheffield Wednesday. “The funds raised just highlight how well thought of Jean was in the community and we’re very honoured and grateful to be the recipients. “We wish John and everyone at the Wise Old Owls the very best and hope to see you all in person soon!”

United and Wednesday have cast aside their rivalries on the pitch to pledge their support for The Children’s Hospital Charity’s Bears of Sheffield sculpture trail. The trail will begin next month, exactly a year later than originally intended, after being postponed due to the COVID19 pandemic. Bringing together families and friends, local institutions and businesses, schools, artists and the community, the trail will support the £2.75M fundraising drive to build a new Cancer and Leukaemia ward at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Building work to transform the ward began last month and The Children’s Hospital Charity have until November to fully fund the project. The Bears of Sheffield fundraising will be crucial in ensuring that this target is met. The trail will primarily comprise of 60 big bears, standing at 2.1m tall, and both The Owls and The Blades will be represented with their very own sculptures. It continues both clubs’ longstanding support for Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Sheffield United’s Bear, Bearing the Colours, has been designed by artist Chris Ashmore. A lifelong Blade, his design is inspired by memories of football sticker books and covers several of the club’s retro home and away kits. United’s captain Billy Sharp, commented: “It is vitally important that those businesses in our region that can afford to, continue to support Sheffield Children’s Hospital and the Bears of Sheffield is a great opportunity for Sheffield United to make a donation, whilst at the same time, provide individuals and families with the opportunity to have fun devising their own route to go and view and photograph themselves with the bears. “I know the bear that will prove to be popular amongst all Blades fans, football supporters in general and those who visit our great city.” Wednesday’s Bear, fittingly named The Owls, was inspired by the club’s iconic logo and blue and white colours. Local artist Ella Osborne was inspired to design a scene which wraps around the bear, featuring owls in a night-time playground. Owls skipper Barry Bannan said: “Everyone in Sheffield is aware of the incredible work of Sheffield Children’s Hospital and it’s vital for the city that Wednesday and United are tuned into their fundraising activities. “The Bears of Sheffield idea is inspiring and will hopefully raise thousands and thousands of pounds to help the children in need of the care the hospital provides. “As a club within the heart of the community, we are proud to support the Bears of Sheffield and wish this fantastic project every success.” The fundraising could not come at a more vital time, as the COVID-19 pandemic saw The Children’s Hospital Charity’s fundraising fall by around 35% last year. The new Cancer and Leukemia ward will have significance for families far beyond Sheffield. It is the Principal Treatment Centre for children with cancer and leukaemia from babies through to 19-year-olds within South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and North Derbyshire. Patients travel from as far south as Northampton for treatment. As well as a larger, brighter space, there will be a bigger and better playroom situated in the heart of the ward. It will maximise the view of Weston Park, making patients feel connected to the outside whilst they are getting better. There will also be improved spaces for parents to stay with their children and it is hoped the new space will be fully funded by charitable donations by November. After the trail is complete, all 60 Big Bears will be auctioned off at a special event in October to further add to the fundraising total.
