TRAMLINES GOES AHEAD WITH FULL CAPACITY Sheffield’s Tramlines Festival 2021 this week announces that it will join the third phase of the Government’s Events Research Programme, allowing the sold-out music festival at Hillsborough Park to take place at full capacity on 23rd to 25th July. The Streets, Royal Blood and Richard Ashcroft will headline a world-class lineup of music and culture throughout a landmark weekend for the city. Tramlines’ participation in the programme means the festival can go ahead independently of national

reopening dates and the audience will be able to enjoy the event without compulsory social distancing or masks. ----------------------------------At the entrance to the festival, ticket holders (except children under 11) will be asked for proof of EITHER: A negative COVID result from a lateral flow test taken within the previous 48 hours. Director, Timm Cleasby: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to confirm that Tramlines 2021 is going ahead, having accepted the government’s invitation to join the Events Research Programme. This means we have a proven framework to follow, which at previous events has shown that festivals can be enjoyed at no more risk than other activities. Once inside, there will be no need for social distancing and no one will have to wear a mask if they don’t want to. We would like to express our solidarity with those festivals which have not

been able to go ahead this year and those which are still seeking clarity. It is very important to us that clear guidance is made available quickly to the entire event community so that as many festivals as possible can go ahead with confidence this summer. Huge ticket sales across the sector show how keen fans are to come to our events and we want to help reassure them that we can welcome them back safely.” All ticket holders will be contacted by Tramlines’ event ticketing partner Gigantic via email by Thursday 1st July with further details. ‘buy one - gift one’ book scheme as culture key to local sheffield low sugar campaign is launched recovery say leaders & politicians Sheffield City Council has announced a new gifting campaign to celebrate the launch of their new community-developed low-sugar food book – ‘The Sheffield Family Guide to Smart Sugar Swaps’. The handy guide offers a range of easy and affordable low-sugar recipes and smart sugar swaps to help the city tackle the challenges of high sugar consumption and establish healthier eating habits. In Sheffield almost two thirds of adults are overweight and almost 1 in 4 children are above a healthy weight when they start school. There is also a worrying amount of tooth decay with over 2,000 children from across the city hospitalised for painful tooth extractions in just one year. As part of the initiative, fifty percent of the books printed will be donated to lower-income families in Sheffield whilst the rest will be on sale at retail outlets across the city. This means that, for every book bought, Sheffield City Council will gift a copy to those who might otherwise struggle to afford the book giving them access to knowledge, tips and ideas. The proceeds from the sale of the books will go directly towards funding the print of the free copies, which will be made available at local community centres, family centres, libraries, as well as other public spaces across the city. The low-sugar food book forms part of Sheffield City Council’s ‘Sheffield is Sweet Enough’ campaign set up to help local families, schools and healthcare professionals to reduce sugar and make better food choices. The food book project is part of a 5 year commitment by the council to raise awareness to the people and businesses of Sheffield on their sugar consumption and encourage positive changes that will ultimately reduce their daily sugar intake. It is a result of a year-long project and has been put together through contributions from the local community – from schools to parents, local businesses, nutritionists, and community groups. The guide is packed full of clever little sugar swaps, tips and advice and exciting recipes including ‘family favourites’, eating well during pregnancy, weaning, healthier packed lunches and better snack choices. It also provides a quick guide to help people understand more about recommended daily limits, how sugar is labelled and how to measure it. Greg Fell, Director of Public Health in Sheffield, said: “Excess sugar consumption is a national issue and we need to help people in Sheffield get on top of it. Making healthier choices isn’t always that easy for some so this book has been designed to support families in making simple swaps and giving them low-cost creative idea. Everyone from parents, students, nutritionists and businesses have contributed their ideas to the book and it’s this kind of collective thinking that will support us as a city to improve health and wellbeing by reducing sugar intake. Our aim is to create food environments that make it easier for all of us to make better food choices and an important element that we’ll be focusing

on is using our influence to limit junk food ads and encourage retailers to stock and promote healthier items.” Alison Teal, Executive Member for Sustainable Neighbourhoods, Wellbeing, Parks and Leisure, added: “Through Sheffield is Sweet Enough we are trying to help families reduce sugar levels in their diets, to improve overall health, and that’s the inspiration behind this fabulous book of ideas. It’s even better that local people have been empowered and have played such a significant role by sharing and compiling their low-sugar tips and recipes so that everyone in Sheffield has the best chance of making better choices on sugar. Good health should not come down to wealth and the last thing we want is for some families to feel excluded due to costs. Our ‘Buy One Gift One’ initiative means we can make this information available to all families without them having to worry about affording the book and we’re really excited to see it on the shelves and in people’s homes.” The ‘Sheffield is Sweet Enough’ initiative was launched in February 2019 to provide information on the effects of too much sugar and the tools families need to make informed choices to support their health. It aims to help reduce tooth decay and obesity in Sheffield. Excessive unhealthy food and sugar-sweetened soft drink consumption has been linked to weight gain. Research carried out in Sheffield has also shown that there is a lack of understanding about recommended daily sugar limits and how much sugar different foods contain. The ‘Sheffield Family Guide to Smart Sugar Swaps’ is available to buy at independent retailers around the city, at Waterstones and online priced £15. The ‘Buy One, Gift One’ will enable the books to reach even more people, helping to tackle the ongoing challenge of sugar reduction and get information out to all who need it. reduced energy costs for local tenants Almost 800 homes in the city will benefit from a £3 million pound grant to make them warmer and more energy efficient. The Green Homes Grant will help households reduce their heating costs and the council meet its priorities around fuel poverty and reducing its carbon footprint. Sheffield city council’s successful bid will improve homes that have an EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) rating of D-G if they are council-owned and E-G if they are privately owned due to the funding criteria. Household income must be less than £30k gross a year for people to qualify for the scheme. Work will include external wall, cavity wall and loft insulation, smart heating controls, double glazing, heat pumps and solar panels. The scheme will include 502 council homes, 15 South Yorkshire Housing Association properties and 265 private sector owner-occupied homes. How the scheme will work The council will select council homes for the

scheme, contacting tenants over the next few months. More information is available to council tenants by calling the Housing call centre on 0114 2930000 or email Homescustserv@sheffield. gov.uk. Owner-occupiers who think they might be eligible can register their interest by email at planningthefuture@sheffield.gov.uk. The council will be making this grant available as a priority to vulnerable households in privately-owned homes. Councillor Paul Wood said:“This is fantastic news for the city and will make a real difference to people’s homes and lives. Over £3 million will help us make hundreds of homes more energy efficient and cheaper for people to run. We are already planning for the next round of the Green Homes Grant, so hopefully we will have further funding success in the future as well.” All work in this round will be completed before 31st December 2021.

Culture is the shot in the arm which could help the UK out of the economic turmoil caused by the covid pandemic, say business leaders and politicians. Although the social, economic and cultural effects of the pandemic will be felt for many years, culture has the opportunity to become a great healer say members of Sheffield Culture Collective, a public private partnership formed in 2019 in response to a national enquiry into how cities can use culture to drive growth and create a stronger and fairer society. “Culture could be a tonic - the shot in the arm to boost the economy, address inequality and promote social wellbeing,” says Dame Julie Kenny, Chair of Sheffield Culture Collective. “It is crucial to how we recovery from the pandemic. Culture contributes to healthy and sustainable communities and helps give cities and towns a rich identity. Art, culture and heritage delivers an enormous benefit to the economy and to how we live our lives. We must use this opportunity to redefine how culture is valued and funded.” Dame Julie spoke as Sheffield Culture Collective launched its first ever strategy for how culture can unlock Sheffield’s untapped economic and social potential. “By working in partnership across the public and private sector we can systematically address problems and inequality,” she added. “We can unleash Sheffield’s untapped potential and benefit culture at every level in the city.” The Culture Collective has spotlighted the delivery of four pivotal arts projects which could become the north’s cultural crown jewels. S1 Artspace at the globally renowned Park Hill Estate will be a new national flagship for arts, culture and heritage at the largest listed structure in Europe. The Graves Gallery and Central Library, first opened in 1934, has the potential to be recognised as one of the UK’s leading art museums. Harmony Works, a partnership of education and music organisations, led by Sheffield City Council, delivering music education to 176 schools and 74,000 children across Sheffield and the City Region, will be a permanent home for music education in the city. Finally, but with no less potential, the Tinsley Art Project will be a public art trail inspired by Sheffield’s rich cultural heritage. These projects form a strand of the Culture Collective’s work and are recognized by the ensemble as having the potential to begin to

transform Sheffield’s cultural offering, make culture accessible to a new audience and support the economic recovery of our city. The group, which also included politicians and academics, is calling for funding to be levelled up. Total investment in South Yorkshire is less than other Combined Authorities and other areas – at just over £20m or £15/person. West Yorkshire receives £47/person and Greater Manchester receives £38/person. According to a report published in summer 2020[2], culture has significant wider economic and social benefits including supporting tourism, creative industries, health, education, community and individual wellbeing. These contribute at least a further £170m to the local economy and £1.2bn in individual wellbeing. The unique public/private sector approach of Sheffield Culture Collective (known as a Cultural Compact) has drawn praise from Sir Nicholas Serota, Chairman of Arts Council England. “Cultural Compacts represent a new form of partnership in developing community identity and the potential of ‘place’,” he said. “They have a special role in supporting recovery from the pandemic and I congratulate Sheffield Culture Collective on leading the way by publishing a Strategy for Sheffield that places creativity and culture at its heart.” Sheffield Property Association, the collective voice for property in Sheffield, has played a key role in the strategic development and helped launch the Sheffield: A Time To Thrive strategy with senior representatives from the Council, Sheffield City Region and Arts Council England. Coun Terry Fox, Leader of Sheffield City Council, added: “Our immediate, and possibly long-term future, will be profoundly shaped by the covid pandemic. How we respond is key and with Sheffield’s thriving and creative cultural sectors our response offers us many opportunities. The prioritised projects will undoubtedly shape Sheffield’s future and strengthen our identity as one of the north’s cultural hotspots.” Martin McKervey of the SPA, said: “Successful places are not solely defined by their economic output. What’s equally important is quality of life and vibrancy. Culture needs to be at the heart of our region’s growth agenda and by working together, we can bring about sustainable inclusive growth.”

Sheffield DJs, musicians and producers join forces to launch ‘Sound Union’ with an aim to support local business Two well known Sheffield DJs have been busy putting together a huge library of locally sourced music, recorded exclusively for local businesses Sound Union is a brand new service created by Sheffield DJ/producers Andy H & Sandy Turnbull. This service will provide businesses with royalty free and locally sourced background music allowing them to avoid costly fees with PRS and PPL which must be paid for any business playing music on their premises to the public. Andy H & Sandy Turnbull have both been prominent fixtures on the local DJ circuit for many years. Before the Covid pandemic you would be able to find both of them behind the decks of some of the city’s very best venues including The Foundry at the University of Sheffield, Soyo and Tramlines Festival. They also regularly play further afield with dates around the UK and Europe at events like Boomtown Festival, Kendal Calling and Outlook Festival in Croatia. Like many DJs, they also produce their own music, some of which is available to stream on this new platform. Sadly back in March 2020 their usually busy diaries became empty as the events industry was put on hiatus dues to the pandemic. With a need to find a productive way to fill their time, Andy and Sandy created a brand new concept that would support

Sheffield businesses at an especially tricky time. They started to build a library of exclusive music from local artists using their network of contacts and built a streaming platform to distribute this music. Andy H Said; ‘There has always been a great community of DJs, musicians and producers in Sheffield, all of whom almost overnight found they were unable to work in the same way they had before. We believe we have found a way in which we could all work together and help out some of the many businesses that have been hit hard by the pandemic.’ Initially they plan to offer access for businesses to this service at no cost until 2022, when they plan to introduce a very small monthly fee. As the music is all original and royalty free, businesses will not be required to pay any other music licences such as PRS or PPL which they would if they used a service like Spotify. This will save businesses hundreds of pounds a year in subscription and licensing fees. Simon Brown who owns ‘Revue Hairdressing’ in Retford is an early adopter of the scheme and said, ‘the music is suitable to a wide range of customers’ and described the service as a ‘fabulous concept’. Andy and Sandy have a wide range of acclaimed artists in many different genres to select from. The library will include music from James Atashroo of

Renegade Brass Band, Copious Beats and Kilxz, the producer alias of seasoned veteran DJ, Jimmy the Gent. Sandy Turnbull said, ‘This service will enable Sheffield businesses to both help the local music industry and save on running costs. We have tailored the music to be suitable for anywhere that needs background

music and we have drawn on the talents of some of the best musicians the city has to offer.’

Soapwatch Soap fans will be able to binge episodes online during the Euros. Coronation Street, Emmerdale and EastEnders will all have episodes online as boxsets during the Euros, which will be dominating our screens until 11th July. EastEnders bosses have revealed that they will stream episodes on BBC iPlayer, with all four episodes dropping weekly on Mondays from 14th June for three consecutive weeks. Jon Sen, Executive Producer said: “Giving EastEnders viewers the ability to decide when they drop in on all things Albert Square is something we’re excited about. With the inevitable scheduling changes due to the Euros, box setting all four episodes will ensure everyone gets their dose of drama and football fans won’t miss out.” Emmerdale and Coronation Street follow suit. Both ITV soaps will also be affected by the Euros and episodes of Emmerdale and Coronation Street will be added as boxsets on ITV Hub. Just like EastEnders, episodes will drop weekly on Mondays so fans have the choice to binge watch or savour them across the week. Emmerdale and Coronation Street will also air on TV as usual between evening football matches. Coronation Street’s producer Iain MacLeod said: “There are loads of key rivalries across the cobbles this summer. I think it will be like following your favourite team – there will be times where they let you down, make mistakes and maybe score a few own goals.” Emmerdale has teased that a series of gripping storylines with focus on some of their most formidable female characters. An insider promised: “In amongst this drama there is wedding day confusion when Leyla sees Liam’s former fiancé Bernice dressed in her old wedding dress on her actual wedding day. What is Bernice thinking? Surely Liam’s not going to have a change of heart at the last minute?” It definitely sounds like the soaps will be worth binge watching online this summer!

Academy quintet pen first pro deals Five Owls from the club’s academy have penned maiden professional contracts at Hillsborough. Scholars Jay Glover, Will Trueman, Basile Zottos, Paulo Aguas and Alex Bonnington have all signed new deals as first year professionals. The Wednesday youngsters will now make the step up to Under-23 level after impressing all throughout their twoyear scholarship at the club. The youth products are no strangers to U23 level already, with all

five having featured on occasion for Lee Bullen’s squad last season – making a combined 27 appearances. Attacking trio Aguas, Zottos and Bonnington were the main source of goals for the Wednesday Under-18s last term. In terms of goals scored, striker Bonnington topped the chart with 11 and also bagged one for the 23s in our 4-1 win away at Wigan in the penultimate game of the season. Zottos finished with six goals in 2020/21, while Aguas topped the pile in terms of assists (eight)

Owls announce Macron partnership Sheffield Wednesday are delighted to announce an exciting new long-term partnership with Italian technical sportswear provider Macron. Macron will supply the Owls’ official kit and training wear, with the deal commencing from 1 July 2021. The global sportwear brand has formed recent partnerships with some of Europe’s leading clubs, including Lazio, Red Star Belgrade, Nice and Real Sociedad as well as a raft of clubs on these shores. Macron also supply acclaimed kits for the Scottish, Welsh and Italian international rugby teams to name but a few. The partnership with Wednesday will see the Macron Hero take pride of place on our home and away shirts, as well as the new technical training, travel and accessories range. Macron Chief Executive Gianluca Pavanello said: “We are so proud that such a historical club like Sheffield Wednesday has chosen to wear the Macron Hero. “We have already established a great relationship with the club, which will certainly grow and develop in the future years we spend together. Sporting values, team spirit and commitment will allow us to

and chipped in with three goals along the way. Glover also enjoyed a fantastic season on a personal level in midfield and has earned his first professional contract for his consistent performances. His non-stop running, ability to retain possession and create chances have been key attributes for Glover, who also scored two goals last term. And it was a season to remember in more ways than one for Trueman, who was named as

the Championship Apprentice of the Year back in April. The annual trophy is awarded to players under the age of 18, not only for exceptional work on the pitch, but also for commitment to their studies and work in the community. A skilful midfield operator, Trueman hit four goals from the engine room last season and will now look to negotiate the step up to professional level with the 23s in 2021/22. Good luck to all five!

reach our goals with hard work and a never give up attitude. “These are the elements of our philosophy and we found them in this club that carries on its shoulders over 150 years of sporting history. Our apparel incorporates this heritage, the tradition, emotion and the sentiment of belonging to both the players and fans alike.” Owls Chief Operating Officer Liam Dooley added: “We are thrilled to officially announce Macron as our new Official Technical Kit Partner. “Macron are renowned for the design and quality of their kits and we are really excited about the striking new range for the 2021/22 season. “We are really pleased with the commitment of a long-term deal which not only provides the club with a superior commercial package but will also offer our supporters the highest quality replica kits for years to come. “We would like to thank our current partners Elev8 for their fantastic support over the past four seasons. “We look forward to a long and successful partnership with Macron.” The Owls will be wearing a pre-season training, travel and matchday Macron kit for our upcoming training camp in Wales and opening pre-season friendly fixtures. This pre-season kit will not go on sale to supporters but will be auctioned off at a later date to raise money for charities supported by SWFC and Macron. Please look out for more announcements on the new 2021/22 kit in the coming weeks!

Rowe delighted to be back AT ROVERS

Tommy Rowe says his heart was set on Rovers as soon as he knew there was interest. After putting pen to paper on a two-year deal with the club, Rowe talked about the nostalgia of a familiar trip to the Keepmoat Stadium and looking forward to rekindling the form he had on his first stint at the club. “As soon as I got the interest from Doncaster, something felt right about it,” he said. “I made my intentions clear that a move back is something that we were trying to push through and things progressed really well. I was delighted over the next couple of weeks to continue the talks and speak to the manager. I’m delighted to be back. “I’m a firm believer that you play your best football when you’re happy and you’re enjoying it and that was present for my three years here. This is my second spell here and familiarity will help me but ultimately, I’m ambitious and hungry to go again. I won’t settle at League One. “I’m back from two seasons in the Championship and I feel like I’m a more rounded player, I feel like I’ve improved in my time away and I’ve come back hungrier than ever to succeed. Hopefully we can get off to a good start, the fans can get back here and we can enjoy a good season.” Rowe believes fans will have a big part to play in the upcoming season and he can’t wait to get back playing at the Keepmoat Stadium. “Personally, I can’t wait for that first game when everyone’s back, there’s a full stadium and we can really enjoy it,” he added. “We needed the fans at times, and when we’re not at our best the fans are massive for us. It’s a great stadium, it’s a great place and hopefully we can get back to that feeling and that’s something I’ll look forward to.”

BLADES WOMEN SIGN GEORGIA ROBERT Sheffield United Women are delighted to announce the signing of defender Georgia Robert from London Bees ahead of the new season. The 26-year-old becomes Neil Redfearn’s third signing of the summer and brings a wealth of FA Women’s Championship experience to the team having previously played for Millwall Lionesses and Lewes before a two-year spell with the Bees. Originally from Yorkshire, Robert played for Leeds United before swapping England for the USA and a stint playing and studying at Lynn University in Florida where she played for Des Moines Menace and Santa Clarita Blue Heat, playing with Atletico Madrid star Deyna Castellanos at the latter. Robert has been a mainstay in any of the sides she’s played for since returning to England and scored twice from the back for London Bees last season, including a stunning free-kick which saw Robert nominated for the league’s goal of the season award.

MILLER set to report back for pre-season training on Thursday Rotherham United’s players and staff will report back at Roundwood on Thursday 1st July for their first day of pre-season testing ahead of the 2021/22 campaign. The Millers will regroup for the first time at their training HQ this week following some well-earned time off during the close season with Paul Warne and his staff set to once again put the players through their paces and lay the foundations for their fitness over the coming weeks. The likes of Mickel Miller and Joshua Kayode – who were out on loan with clubs elsewhere last season – will rejoin their Rotherham United teammates alongside the rest of the first team group. Meanwhile, youngsters Jacob Gratton, Jake Hull, Jake Cooper and Jerome Greaves will also continue their development by undergoing the rigours of a Warne pre-season alongside their fellow professionals. The club have so far confirmed a number of friendlies to take place ahead of the 2021/22 season with one home friendly announcement outstanding as we await completed paperwork from our opposition. The Millers learned of their 2021/22 Sky Bet League One schedule last Thursday as well as their Carabao Cup Round One opponents - Accrington Stanley and who will be joining them in their Papa John’s Trophy group - Scunthorpe United, Doncaster Rovers and Manchester City U21s.

Now ready to return home, Robert is delighted to be joining the Blades ahead of the team’s fourth Championship campaign. “I’m very happy, I’m absolutely buzzing to be here. The past three seasons, Sheffield United have done consistently well so I’m looking forward to getting in and continuing that and hopefully pushing on to be better. “I’m looking forward to getting in there. Sheffield United has a good reputation as a club, good players, a good manager, it’s just exciting to be a part of. As soon as it was on the table and after I spoke to Neil, it was pretty much a no-brainer for me.” Head coach Neil Redfearn added: “Georgia’s got real Championship experience. What we will lose with Leandra, she gives us that height and that dominance at the back. She’s a good footballer, she’s comfortable in possession and she’s an athlete. “There’s room for her to develop and playing alongside someone like Sophie Bradley-Auckland will only get the best out of her. For me, she’s an exciting signing because there’s also a lot more to come from her.”
