Jessica Jones, 26, recently gained the title of Miss Sheffield 2021 in a regional heat of Miss Great Britain and will now compete in the final for a chance to be crowned Miss GB. Since gaining the title at the beginning of the year Jessica has raised nearly £1,000 for the competitions chosen charities and She is currently fundraising for Alex's Wish which is an ambitious and highly focused charity with a clear vision - to fund and accelerate treatments and a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a desperately cruel muscle wasting disease that mainly affects boys and it’s the most common fatal genetic disease to affect children, it is 100% fatal with sufferers normally dying in their early 20s. The other charity the reigning Miss Sheffield is raising money for is Cancer Research UK which is a charity close to her heart after her dad has thankfully just gained remission from throat cancer, but not so fortunately she has lost two family members to it during the past year. Cancer Research UK is the world's leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research and over half of all cancer research in the UK

Young Driver new dates added for 2021 Following the sell-out success of the first ever Young Driver’s courses held in the Sheffield Arena car park between August & November 2020 they are pleased to announce that the event will be returning to the Arena in 2021 for another 7 events and tickets are now on sale. The Young Driver Scheme will be at the Arena throughout 2021 with the following dates now on sale Saturday 28 August, Sunday 5 September, Sunday 3 October, Sunday 31 October & Sunday 28 November. The driver training scheme allows 10-17

year olds to get behind the wheel and drive, instructed, in the safe self-contained Arena car park which will be transformed into a realistic road system so youngsters can work on a range of driving skills and manoeuvres in a bid to create a safer next generation of drivers. Young Driver is the UK’s largest provider of pre-17 driving lessons, having delivered over 800,000 lessons at more than 70 venues across the UK. Youngsters have lessons in dual controlled Vauxhall Corsas – with a brand new fleet of Vauxhall Corsa SE

Premium arriving since lockdown began – with highly qualified approved driving instructors. A road system is created, with traffic signs, roundabouts and junctions, along with special areas to practice manoeuvres such as steering control and parking. The emphasis of the lessons is on safety and fun and encouraging youngsters to consider how to drive responsibly, giving them time to perfect driving skills such as gear changes, braking and steering without the pressures of public roads. Safety procedures are currently in place to

protect both pupils and instructors, including the wearing of masks, social distancing and regular hand and vehicle sanitisation. Detailed instructions

are sent to customers by email ahead of their lesson. For more information, to book a lesson or to buy vouchers visit www. youngdriver.com or

call 0333 577 9010, if you have any further questions click here to view Young Driver FAQ’s or please contact the event directly at info@ youngdriver.com.

I’ve just found a wallet outside Tesco’s with £60 in it and I wasn’t sure if I should hand it in or keep it. As I went to walk away with it I thought, “What would Jesus do?” I turned around, walked into Tesco’s... and turned it into wine. Where does an angry sailor go? Anchor management. News, Information and Advice better health sheff campaign launches

A new campaign to help make it easy for people to make small and simple changes to improve their health launches this week in Sheffield. The Better Health Sheff campaign has been developed to make it as easy as possible for people to improve their health. It brings together eating well, moving more, Smokefree Sheffield and feeling better. It supports the national NHS Better Health campaign and has been tailored to provide local support and resources locally. Nationally research has shown the extent to which Covid-19 had on people’s eating and physical activity habits, leading to weight gain. Almost over half a stone (4.1kg) was gained on average by those who put on weight, with 1 in 5 (21%) reporting putting on a stone or more. In adults aged 35 to 65 years old, the average weight gain for those who put on weight rises to over 10lbs (4.6kg). Unhealthy eating habits, like snacking and comfort eating, were reported as the main contributor to weight gain during the pandemic for nearly half (46%) of those who reported gaining weight. For smokers, although over 1 million people have given up since Covid-19 hit, with 41% of quitters stating it was a direct response to the pandemic, a YouGov survey shows that some smokers have increased the amount they smoke and their likelihood of quitting has decreased. Lockdown also saw an increase in second hand smoke exposure for children at home. Health inequalities were highlighted as a result of the pandemic and certain health conditions, such as heart disease and diabetes, increased the risk of poorer outcomes from Covid-19 and are more common among certain ethnic groups. Greg Fell, Director of Public Health in Sheffield welcomed the campaign saying: “There’s never been a better time to look after your health which is why we’re launching a local Better Health Sheff campaign. Small and simple changes today could be your first step towards you being more healthy whether you want to lose weight, get active and boost your mood, quit smoking or switch to vaping there’s lots of free support in Sheffield to help you. “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the BAME Public Health Inequalities Group who recommended a local campaign and helped us to develop it, and the local people who volunteered to be in the materials. The group have been instrumental in helping us understand local communities needs and have worked tirelessly to support people throughout the pandemic. We’d be grateful if organisations who want to support the campaign by sharing information through their own channels could contact us for a Partner Toolkit. There’s so much that we can all do to help ourselves and each other stay healthy and well.” Alison Teal, Executive Member for Sustainable Neighbourhoods, Wellbeing, Parks & Leisure said: “We now need everyone’s help to get Better Health Sheff messages out into communities. We know that there are excellent services in communities that support the ways that people can get healthy and stay healthy. Talking about local services in one campaign will hopefully mean that people will find it easier to access them and find what they are looking for.” The campaign includes videos, leaflet and other materials at www.sheffield.gov.uk/betterhealth

Using outdoor space is encouraged where practical and make sure indoor spaces are kept well ventilated with lots of fresh air • are encouraged to display QR codes for customers to check in using the NHS COVID-19 app although it’s no longer a legal requirement COVID-secure measures on businesses, such as table service and distancing between tables are no longer in place Sport and Leisure • all settings can open, including nightclubs • large events, such as music concerts and sporting events are allowed – there are no limits on attendance or any social distancing requirements Travel • when travelling, over 18s that are double vaccinated do not need to isolate when returning from an amber country. This will help continue to keep everyone safe and help reduce COVID transmission • outdoors is still the safest way to meet people. When indoors, open doors and windows (if safe to do so) • do not use fans or air conditioning that recirculate stale air, set air exchange settings to full wash hands and clean surfaces regularly take up the vaccine when you are offered it and encourage others to as well • if you travel, walk or cycle where possible remember the risks associated with COVID-19 and actions you can take to help keep you and your loved ones safe

your views as a carer

In an attempt to understand the need of carers, Doncaster Council are seeking the views of those directly responsible for care in the community. The Council are looking for carers to share their experience of home care, who will actively respond to questions about the care they give and what support they need on an ongoing basis. Rather than attend a meeting, the sessions are being held on Teams and applications are being invited for a session to be held at the end of the month. Do you provide support to someone who might otherwise not manage their everyday lives? You probably don’t see yourself as a carer! Doncaster Council are keen to learn more about your experiences as a carer. Would you like to join us for a workshop to get a better understanding of: • What is working well? • What is not working well? • What support would help you? Please come along to a short session held by the council with some fellow carers, where your experiences and knowledge will help shape future support. The session will be held via teams on: Thursday 26th August, 1-2.30pm

council recruits for care careers

Following its success last year, Doncaster’s Social Care Academy is once again encouraging people to apply for jobs in the sector. Applicants were able to secure jobs in the social care sector when the academy was initially launched and more people are being encouraged to apply to help our most vulnerable residents and their families. Adult social care roles are tremendously rewarding and no one day is the same. The recruitment process is straightforward and training will be given. Councillor Andrea Robinson, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said: “The recruitment drive is more than just filling a short term gap, working in the care sector is a long term career offering people a hugely rewarding job for the future. We’d also like to emphasise that people don’t need a background in care - they just need a passion to help others.” The academy quickly matches the skills and experience of candidates with the jobs available and there will be a variety of permanent and temporary, full time and part-time roles that need filling in the coming weeks. The range of care worker roles include Home Care Worker, Support Worker, Supported Living Worker, Care Assistant working in a Care Home. For an overview of what each of these roles involves, see our Health and Social Care Prospectus on the Doncaster Social Care Academy page at www.doncaster.gov.uk People will be matched to roles that suit their skills and interests through a discussion on the phone. The minimum age for a social care role is 18. Face-to-face training will be given on Moving and Handling and Providing Personal Care with wider knowledge gained through The Care Certificate online learning and in the work place. The first training session is scheduled for 31st August. Support and PPE will be provided throughout. Anyone who is interested in work and would like to find out more should call the Doncaster Social Care Academy on 735554 and press option 5. The opening hours for the service are 10-4pm. Tesla of Indian Food Inspired by the heat of tandoor, the authentic Indian spices and dynamic combinations of exquisite flavours encapsulating with professionals who are passionate about bringing Indian dishes to the next degree in Sheffield.

Situated in the Heart of Sheffield at 46 CASTLE SQUARE | SHEFFIELD | S1 2GF

Call 0114 327 4150 for reservations Visit us online at www.400dc.co.uk

Opening Hours Mon: Closed Tuesday: 4:00 – 10:00 PM Wednesday: 4:00 – 10:00 PM Thursday: 4:00 – 10:00 PM Friday: 12:00 – 11:00 PM Saturday: 12:00 – 11:00 PM Sunday: 12:00 – 09:00 PM

400 Degree Celcius or www.400dc.co.uk has been recently creating lots of vibes at the Sheffield city centre. The new restaurant has been opened from a lot of research, the tandoor temperature should be around 400degree celcius to make perfect naan breads and most of their key items do come from the tandoor, that is why it’s called 400dc. The owners Ashish Bhandari and Siddharth Singh have been an integral part of the Sheffield and truly want to push the shop local idea to the consumers. Ashish has completed his first masters in computers and second masters from business school (MBA) from the University of Sheffield, and already operates 2 other businesses in export and consulting, having lived in Sheffield over 20 years. Sidharth Singh has worked all over the world including the USA and India. He holds more than 23 years of experience in culinary expertise and cooking. They have been in discussions for the past 3 years and have been working on the dishes and concept of the 400 degree celcius restaurant. 400dc Restaurant was opened on 26th May and have slowly been rising from word of mouth and social marketing. In the past 9 weeks they have jumped their ranking from 103 indian restaurants to no. 9 restaurant in Sheffield. They are the Tesla of Indian food in Sheffield: light, less oil, perfect flavours and something which is not available in Sheffield. Their reviews and food speak about themselves, they can be beaten on quantity and price but never on quality and flavours.

Certainly worth the visit for a top 10 restaurant in Sheffield. The surrounds of Castle Square is changing for the better, Fitzalan Square has brought some new businesses along with new fusion foods and cafe shops. They think people don't mind to travel anywhere for good food. They are working very closely with the council and other businesses to make sure that guests do visit us, the rest of the job is gladly done by our food. They are really excited for their vegan menu and few of the dishes which are not easily available in Sheffield. Their vegan menu has been launched since 12th July and they have had loads of people who have been asking for it, and they would like to cater to everyone’s needs so have tried to pick up some special local ingredients to furnish the vegan menu. Hopefully it would be appreciated by their guests as it has

been done for their original menu. If you visit the website around 80 per cent of the dishes are new to the city, and the chef specials Laal Mans, Malai Kofta and Murgh Changezi are a few of them that you should definitely try. The full menu is available at the web site – www.400dc. co.uk – and bookings are taken on 011432 74150. A collection service is also available.

Opening times are Tuesday until Thursday 4.00pm until 10.00pm and they are also open from lunchtimes on Friday and Saturday, 12.00 until 11.00pm, plus Sunday 12.00 until 9,00pm. The Lunch Menu includes Chilli Chicken, Chilli Paneer and Veg. Manchurian which is an indo chinese food. They do also serve thali on weekends for lunch.

INDEPENDENT BREWERS TO HELP COUNTER SHORTAGES

Responding to reports of forthcoming beer shortages from the global brewers due to planned industrial action, James Calder, Chief Executive of the Society of Independent Brewers said; “Amid fears of taps running dry, pubs, bars and restaurants should look beyond mass-produced beers from the Globals and speak to their local independent breweries. Being local they have the flexibility to brew and get beer directly into venues up and down the UK.

British independent breweries are producing some of the best beers anywhere in the World and can be found across every corner of the UK. They are brewing a hugely diverse range of styles from lagers and pale ales, to porters, stouts and of course, cask real ale. As the hospitality industry fully reopens the UK’s independent brewers are ready and waiting to fill the supply gaps we’re seeing hit an already struggling hospitality industry. James went on to say;

“Distinct, quality local beers could prove more popular with customers than your original offering of global beer, which are available anywhere. Small independent breweries have suffered massively while pubs, bars and nightclubs have been closed, so now as the UK’s hospitality industry begins on its road to recovery let’s work together and offer customers a great-tasting local lager, craft ale, IPA or stout.”

Ripped off? Then join the CIU’s fightback CIU Legal Consultant Allyn Walton issues a call out to clubs for information on their dealings with Minotaur, the debt-restructuringcompany which featured in a BBC Panorama investigation in 2018... It has been a long time since the Panorama programme ‘Ripped Off? Join the Club’ was broadcast in December 2018 but having issued the following Press Release at the time (see excerpt below) I assure you the Union hasn’tmerely stood back and watched: “The CIU welcomes Panorama’s investigation into so- called ’financial restructuring and debt management companies’ none of which have ever been awarded National Approved Supplier status. ... The fundamental purpose of the CIU and its officers isto assist in the well-being of clubs across the UK. “If there is an officer or anyone else acting within the CIU who seeks to gain personally from their positions, then restassured we shall

root them out of our organisation.” As everyone is aware the Union took swift action which was widely documented and concluded with a well-attended Special Meeting of the Council on March 2, 2019. For its part, the Union took the view that the former President had betrayed the relationship of trust and confidence between it and any Officer, especially the President, in terms of his attitude to the plight of failing clubs, his obvious desire to keep important information secret from the NEC, and as reported by Panorama, by personally benefitting from Minotaur’s actions. So why mention this all again now? What’s the purpose, you might ask, of raking up old news? The answer is quite simple, the chickens are coming home to roost for at least some of the people involved with Minotaur. In addition to the Union’s own legal manoeuvres, reports are drifting in from around the country that clubs are in the initial stages of taking legal action against Minotaur and

the people that assisted them at every turn. We can’t comment on what the Union or these Clubs are doing at present but it seems inevitable that Writs will soon be landing, including from the CIU itself. With that in mind I have been mandated by the Union tomake a CALL OUT to all members and former members of CIU Clubs. So, if you know or even might

know of anyone previously involved with a Club that was ‘ripped-off ’ by Minotaur, please reach out to them and urge them to contact the CIU Head Office so we can potentially benefit from what they witnessed and the information they can provide, to help with these claims and possibly even expand the proceedings yet further.

The Blackpool Number One Club is one of the venues that suffered after dealings with Minotaur

PUBWATCH RELEASES NEW VIDEO TO HELP STAFF ENSURE SAFETY OF CUSTOMERS Voluntary organisation National Pubwatch, which counts many local pubs & clubs among its members, has created a training film called Supporting Vulnerable People, which takes frontline bar staff through a variety of scenarios on how to ensure the safety of customers. This includes what actions should be taken when a female has been separated from her friends, to how to intervene when a woman who is drunk or drugged is being approached by an unknown male, to dealing with a domestic fight or helping a customer deal with unwanted attention. National Pubwatch Chairman Steve Baker OBE, said: “Frontline staff need to be able to identify any potential incidents as well as recognise the unintended consequences of their own actions. “The best way to manage vulnerability is to ensure you have

equipped your team with the guidance and skills to effectively deal with people before they become an issue.” “The film has been designed to help generate team discussions on the issue of vulnerability and how staff can positively respond to protect them.” National Pubwatch advises staff to consider the following when faced with any incidents: • Evaluate the situation • Identify any signs of danger, including aggression and drunkenness • Assess who is the best person to help in the circumstances • Work with the vulnerable person to find a solution • Treat each person as an individual and do not make snap judgment For more information and to view the training film, visit: www.nationalpubwatch.org.uk

BLADES BRING A POINT HOME FROM WALES Darren Moore: PostUnited’s long trip to Wales yielded the first Sky Bet Championship point of the campaign, but on another day, they could have claimed all three. In a tight contest, the Blades created the better chances, but unfortunately, they couldn’t find a way past Steven Benda in the Swans goal. For the clash in against Russell Martin’s side, United made three

changes with Basham, Brewster and Sharp starting in place of Osborn, Fleck and Mousset, who missed out with a hamstring problem. It was a positive start for the Blades and McGoldrick almost capitilised on some hesitancy by goalkeeper Benda, before the same player was freed on the left by Brewster and Cooper’s sliding clearance was inches away from

finding his own net. Having fouled Bidwell minutes earlier, Baldock was cautioned by referee Stroud following his second offence. Robinson was then called into action to make a crucial block as Latibeaudiere took aim from a promising position. Having seized on a slip by Cooper, Sharp teed up McGoldrick, but his curled effort from the edge of the area was comfortably saved by Benda. Midway through the first-half, Norwood’s ball into the channel tempted Benda out of his area, Burke looked to lift the ball over him, but the goalkeeper managed to head behind at the expense of a corner. Brewster then won a free kick which Norwood delivered, Sharp got in front of Cooper, but header didn’t have enough power to trouble Benda. As half-time approached, United continued to look the most likely to break the deadlock, winning another couple of corners in quick succession, but despite looking a live threat it remained goalless at the break. Inside the opening exchanges of the second period, Grimes was booked for a nasty

challenge on Berge, leaving the Norwegian needing a moment or two to recover. Manning’s tackle halted the progress of an advancing Berge, before Brewster fired over from Baldock’s cross. Shortly before the hour, the Blades made a double change, as McBurnie and Osborn replaced Sharp and Burke. For the first time in the game, Ramsdale was needed to make a telling contribution to deny Cullen with a low powerful that was heading towards the bottom corner. McBurnie had a sight of goal at the near post, before McGoldrick high and wide from a promising position. There were 17 minutes remaining when United fashioned the best chance of the game to date. McBurnie threaded through a pass to McGoldrick who appeared to have beaten the offside trap only to be denied by Benda seconds before a delayed flag was raised. Brewster received a warm hand from all four sides of the stadium as he exited the clash, with Bogle taking his place on the right wing. The clock was ticking down and when Berge surged clear of Downes

and crossed into the area, McGoldrick rose highest, but couldn’t direct his header on goal. McBurnie was booked for dissent, before Ramsdale punched clear under heavy pressure from Cabango and a retreating Egan who took a whack for his troubles. Three minutes of injury time were signalled and United won a late corner. Norwood swung one in from the left, but Benda claimed the ball and that was the last chance of note as the points were shared. Swansea: Benda, Manning, Downes, Cabango, Grimes, Lowe (Piroe 64), Paterson (Dhanda 89), Cooper, Cullen (Whittaker 72), Latibeaudiere, Bidwell. Unused: Webb, Joseph, Dhanda, McFayden, Williams. Blades: Ramsdale, Baldock, Basham, Brewster (Bogle 77), Berge, Sharp (McBurnie 58), Egan, Burke (Osborn 58), Norwood, McGoldrick, Robinson. Unused: Verrips, Fleck, Freeman, Bogle, Norrington-Davies.

on a season-long deal, which will see him remain at S2 for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign and bolster United’s defensive options moving forward. Born in Barrow-inFurness, Davies joined Preston North End at the

age of 11 having been spotted playing locally in Cumbria. Davies made his Lilywhites debut at the age of just 17, against Coventry City in January 2013 and went on to win the club’s Scholar of the Year award for 2012/13 season. The left-sided centre-back spent the entire 2013/14 campaign on-loan at York City, making 47 appearances as the Minstermen reached the League Two play-offs. Brief stints at Tranmere Rovers and Southport

followed, before Davies progressed up the pyramid and enjoyed successful spells at Newport County and Fleetwood Town. The 26-year-old penned new terms at Deepdale in both July 2017 and March 2018, winning the Young Player of the Year award in 2017/18 and the Player of the Year award in 2018/19 as well as the Sir Tom Finney Player of the Year award. In total, Davies made close to 150 appearances for the Lancastrian outfit. In February 2021, Davies

On Doncaster We knew what kind of game this would be and we knew it could get frustrating at times. In the second half we talked about it and I said to the lads we need to get five metres further up the pitch. We wanted to build from the back, work through the opposition and get bodies in and around them. After around 60 or 70 minutes I thought there would be some tired legs out there. We made a couple of changes and tactical decisions and they came through for us. On Barry Bannan I’m really pleased for Baz. For the ball to come back to him like that, you want someone

There were plenty of talking points from Darren Moore’s postmatch press conference following the Owls’ first victory of the season over Doncaster.

of his ilk and he didn’t rush it, he took his time, he picked his spot into the corner. It seemed to settle us down and we found a rhythm. You know, Baz is so respected in and around the football club, he really does lead by example and we’ve seen that today. On the fans… I wrote in my programme notes how important it was for the fans to be our 12th man and boy did they show that today. This is their house, this is their home and we have to make that home a better place to be in for them. When the first goal went in we saw and heard the noise but the second one….it lifted the roof off really! We spoke about Dennis getting further up the pitch and adding some goals to his game from midfield and we made the tactical change with him. It was great

to see Dennis on the scoresheet.

On clean sheets It’s three clean sheets now and that’s really pleasing. If you don’t concede a goal then you’re always in with the chance of the three points. What that builds is consistency, understanding and relationships. And of course confidence and that has ultimately led to the three points. This was a big game with a big crowd, a derby game, and I’m delighted for everyone that we’ve started our home campaign with three points. On creating confidence Two games into the season, I think the players are finding their feet, this is a new squad with a lot of new players and this is something that needed to happen. But you can see what we are trying to achieve and the work we are trying to do. The passing, the style, the way we play, it is coming and it will get better and better. We talk about it all the time, we work at it and we will continue to work at it. The players need to recover now because this is a demanding league and we have our preparation to do now for the game against Fleetwood on Tuesday.

Wellens proud of ROVERS SUFC performance AT HILLSBOROUGH 2021/22

Clean sheets key to early season confidence

Three games into the season and three clean sheets on the board is a pleasing element of our opening to the season for manager Darren Moore. Wednesday have made a promising start to the new campaign and chalked up the first win on Saturday in front of a raucous Hillsborough crowd. A Barry Bannan stunner and a first Owls goal for summer signing Dennis Adeniran secured the points against Doncaster Rovers. The visitors spurned a chance at the last to set up a tense finish when Omar Bogle hit the post with a spotkick three minutes from time. Bailey Peacock-Farrell may well have made the save had the strike been on target as the on-loan shot stopper got down well to his left-hand post. The shutout on Saturday is our third of 2021/22, with a 0-0 draw against Huddersfield over 90 minutes in the Carabao Cup and goalless draw on the opening day away at Charlton. Moore said: “If you keep clean sheets, you are always in the game to get the three points. “I have got to be pleased. It is the third game and the third clean sheet. It builds consistency, understanding, relationships and confidence. “I am pleased to open the home league campaign with three points in front of the home fans. “I still think two games into the season the players are still finding their feet, touch, rhythm, passing and accuracy. “It takes the first half a dozen games for teams to settle into their rhythm and routine. The players have to recover because they have to go again on Tuesday night, which will be another difficult game. “Some of our passing was not quite what we wanted in the first half but the main thing is the players are consistently giving their all.”

Richie Wellens was proud of his players efforts despite being beaten 2-0 at Sheffield Wednesday in Sky Bet League One. Late goals from Barry Bannan and Dennis Adeniran sealed the win for the Owls, after Rovers had more than held their own for much of the afternoon. “I thought we were the better team for the majority of the game, but they had a moment from a good player that took it away from us. “We controlled possession and in the first-half we were excellent, the best chances fell to us. “I’m proud of the players because the progression over the past week since the Wimbledon game has been clear to see. “Our three in midfield controlled the game, but then we just switch off and allow Bannan to get in a

Positives to take for Bostock John Bostock felt there were positives to take from the performance against Sheffield Wednesday in Sky Bet League One. Bostock made his first league start of the campaign at Hillsborough, and believes Rovers are getting closer to where they need to be. On the team’s development: “We’re a team that is growing, there have been a lot of obstacles to overcome in pre-season so it’s taking us time to put all the building blocks in place. “It’s night and day compared to the Wimbledon performance, and although we lost there are a lot of positives to take from it. “It hurts coming away with nothing from a game

“I thought our performance was really good. I was proud of the performance of the lads. They were well-organised. Wigan found it difficult. There were some amazing performances, today, but unfortunately I come out after a one-nil defeat, and it feels a lot different. You have got to score when you are on top, but unfortunately we didn’t. The free-kick was needless. We should do better than that. That was my only disappointment. The goal came from a percentage ball. They won the free-kick. There were too many free-kicks and corners, in the last five minutes, and we didn’t clear it aswell as we should have. I thought we were excellent. Chieo was unplayable. Mickel was good down the other side. Our centrehalves dealt with everything. I thought JJ for his first league start was pretty exceptional. Him and Smudge caused them all sorts of problems. The only thing lacking today was a goal for us. The fans were good with the team but unfortunately they now leave disappointed, as we conceded in the 95th minute. Everyone can be proud of what we tried to do, but unfortunately you are judged by results. We were excellent from the first whistle to the last but by conceding that late goal, it mars a really good performance.”

dangerous area.” “We lacked a bit of quality in the final third, our attacking options are limited compared to the team we came up against. “Our supporters were excellent and we gave them a lot to shout about, we just let ourselves down in the final third. “We’ve missed a penalty and then had a chance straight after but you can’t give up opportunities like that.” “I think he’s got the potential to be a top player and he seemed to take the big crowd and atmosphere in his stride. “It didn’t phase him and he took the ball in all areas of the pitch, he probably only gave the ball away once in the whole game.” where we felt we were the better team for large parts of it.” On where they can improve: “The gaffer has been very clear on the way he wants us to play, and like anything it’s going to to take time to be at it’s best. “We showed in parts that we can pull apart a team that is fancied by many to be at the top end of the table. “We made it difficult for them and then the next step is to convert that into chances and goals.” On playing alongside Ethan Galbraith: “He came in yesterday and was really quiet, then goes and puts in such a good performance on his professional debut. “It’s nice to have him here because he’s got a massive future in the game, I enjoyed playing alongside him and hopefully we can develop that relationship. “I remember older professionals speaking to me when I was his age so I want to help him while he’s here.”

Chieo named PA Entertainments Man of Match following Wigan clash Rotherham United winger Chiedozie Ogbene has landed the PA Entertainments Man of the Match crown following Saturday’s narrow defeat to Wigan Athletic at DW Stadium. After dominating for large periods of the encounter against the Latics, the Millers were hit with the cruellest of late blows as Will Keane met Max Power’s cross to steal all three points with the last kick. Despite the defeat, a number of Millers players came away from the game with credit, but there was one player who shone brightest on a rainy afternoon in Greater Manchester. After missing the majority of the previous campaign through injury, Chieo now has a full pre-season under his belt, and looks back to his electrifying best judging by his early season displays. Wigan’s defenders simply could not live with the flying-winger who was the main source of chances for the team, and, had lady luck been smiling on the Millers, he may well have produced a match-winning moment. Chieo claimed the prize with 64.2% of the 508 votes cast, ahead of fellow nominees Wes Harding, Richard Wood and Wes Harding.
