Next Week the Clean Air Zone in Sheffield will begin charging non-compliant vehicles from midnight on Monday, February 27, 2023.

In 2017, the Government legally directed Sheffield City Council to implement the Clean Air Zone to reduce the dangerous levels of Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) in the city.

Since then, between 2018 and 2022, NO2 readings have regularly been taken and shown Sheffield exceeds the legal NO2 limits in a number of places. To tackle this problem quickly and improve the health of local people, a Clean Air Zone

(CAZ) is being introduced.

The charges will apply to the following vehicle types that do not meet the minimum standards when entering the Clean Air Zone boundary:

• Taxis, including both hackney carriages and private hire vehicles, which are below Euro 6 Diesel or Euro 4 Petrol standards

• Light goods vehicles (LGVS) such as vans, campervans and pickup trucks and minibuses which are below Euro 6 Diesel or Euro 4 Petrol standards

• Buses and coaches which are below Euro 6 Diesel standards

• Heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) which are below

Euro 6 Diesel standards Private cars and motorbikes will not be charged.

Vehicle owners can check whether they will be charged in Sheffield, and for other Clean Air Zones elsewhere, via the government’s online vehicle checker.

How will it help clean up Sheffield’s air?

Older, polluting vehicles are a major source of air pollution. The Clean Air Zone will encourage those with the oldest, most polluting vehicles who regularly drive into the zone to upgrade to a cleaner vehicle. The impact of the

zone will be much broader than the city centre. Cleaner vehicles mean reduced emissions across the city, not just in the Clean Air Zone.

What are the charges?

Only the most polluting vehicles which do not meet the minimum standards will have to pay a charge, if they enter the Clean Air Zone. It is a daily charge enter the zone. The charging day runs from 12:00am to 11:59pm.

The charges are:

• £10 per day for vans/LGVs and Taxis

• £50 per day for coaches, buses and lorries/HGVs

Will drivers be reminded to pay?

Drivers will not receive a reminder to pay the Clean Air Zone charge. Drivers must pay for their journey within a 13-day payment window:

• 6 days before their journey

• On the day of their journey

• Up to and including 6 days after travel

How are charges paid? Charges will be paid through the Government’s payment portal.

DONCASTER’S YUNGBLUD TAKES TO THE STAGE FOR ARENA SHOW

After selling over 70,000 tickets last year and featuring in a documentary by Louis Theroux, Youngblud’s 2023 tour takes to the stage at seven arenas around the UK including his biggest ever South Yorkshire show this Friday (24th Feb) at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield. Supporting Yungblud, British pop-punk band Neck Deep will be special guests.

Yungblud has undeniably become a rock ‘n’ roll pillar for Gen-Z, while harnessing support from Rock Legends such as Mick Jagger, Ozzy

Osborne, Steve Jones and Dave Grohl. Last Summer, he took to the stage for his explosive Glastonbury debut on the iconic John Peel tent.

Yungblud says can’t remember a time before music: at the age of two, he picked up a guitar from his father’s instrument shop, and from that moment, his lifelong love affair began. Born in Doncaster, Dominic Harrison began writing his own songs at 10 years old, enticed by the thrill of catharsis and self-expression he couldn’t find anywhere else. Since his self-titled debut EP in 2018, the

24-year-old’s lyrics have found universality in introspection, reckoning with sexuality, gender, class, gentrification and mental illness with disarming honesty in order to encapsulate the spirit of his generation. Throughout this tour, Yungblud will be teaming up with Show Support, to offer specialist mental health support for fans attending the concerts. The aim is to provide a safe space for fans at shows, with access to qualified mental health professionals to help with any experiences related to panic attacks, anxiety, or other mental health

related concerns. Fans will be able to access this support before, during and after the shows. During the shows, a safe space, fully equipped with qualified councillors, alongside a helpdesk to answer any questions will be available. This support will expand beyond the arenas, with a dedicated email helpline being established to answer any queries related to mental health from YUNGBLUD fans before, during and after the show.

Tickets are available at www. utilitaarenasheffield.co.uk

My wife tells me I have 2 major faults, I don’t listen - and something else.

People say the back of my head looks really nice. But I don’t see it.

I was walking past a farm and a sign said: “Duck, eggs!”

I thought: “That’s an unnecessary comma - then it hit me.”

I went the doctors the other day complaining about my sore feet. He said: “Gout!”

I said: “But I’ve only just walked in!”

What does a grape say when it’s squashed?

Nothing, it just lets out a little wine.

I’ve been teaching myself to juggle clocks. People are saying I’ve got too much time on my hands.

I’m not wearing glasses anymore. I’ve seen enough.

Families in Sheffield are amongst thousands across England that will be offered help and support with issues such as infant feeding, mental health and relationship building thanks to Family Hubs being rolled out in local communities.

Sheffield is one of seventy-five areas that will benefit from the £300 million investment up to 2025, with £5m being awarded to the city. The new hubs will offer support from conception through to age 19, or up to 25 for children with special education needs and disabilities. Strong, supportive families make for more stable communities and happier individuals. The council’s Communities, Parks and Leisure Policy Committee has worked hard to secure the funding to ensure local people have the best chance of living happy family lives and can access the most relevant support when they need it. Councillor Richard Williams said: “We are thrilled that Sheffield has been selected as part of this programme and as a trailblazer authority to support the wider rollout. Our families face so many hurdles now, and this is a huge challenge for local authorities, particularly with the cost-of-living crisis that is affecting so many households so significantly. This funding will support us to provide the right help at the right time, allowing our families and young people to thrive, by giving them the best possible start and having support embedded throughout our communities for each stage of family life. This means joined up support services across health & wellbeing, money

matters, employment & education, and leisure so that families are fulfilled in each of these areas, because just one small issue can create a huge impact on everything else. We look forward to rolling out the Family Hubs and Start Life Programme across our communities, seeing families in Sheffield flourish and leading the way in supporting this initiative nationally.”

Investing in families and making sure they get the support they need from birth through to adulthood helps with children’s educational attainment, wellbeing and life chances, while also improving wider outcomes such as poor mental health and unemployment. Previously these services could be disjointed and hard to navigate but family hubs will act as a ‘one stop shop’ to offer guidance and advice on a range of circumstances including, infant feeding, mental health support, health visits and parenting classes. Hubs will also bring together wider wraparound services that can make a huge difference to people who need extra support –such as advice on getting into work, relationship building and stop smoking services. Greg Fell, Director of Public Health for Sheffield, said: “We are pleased to see the Government is acting on their ambition to put families at the heart of communities with the Family Hub initiative. It is well evidenced that prevention and intervention in the very early stages of life is needed to support children and young people to lead healthy and fulfilling lives and prevent ill health in

Mp vIsITs fOOdwORks

future. This then supports communities to not just grow but also to thrive and embed good health at all levels in our society. However, it is important that funding for these measures remains consistent and sustained over the coming years so that the benefits of having this support in place can be felt now and long into the future. While the extra funding is appreciated, it must be matched by an increase to the public health grant so that DsPH across England can continue to deliver services to children, young people and their families who won’t yet benefit from the new Family Hubs.”

To fast-track delivery of these services, 14 local authority areas will become trailblazers and receive extra funding. Sheffield as one of the trailblazers will lead the way and support

other local authorities to improve services that are offered to families, so that these can be rolled out more widely across the country. Today’s announcement builds on the Prime Minister’s ambition to put families at the centre of communities and delivers on the 2019 manifesto commitment to champion Family Hubs. Children, Families and Wellbeing Minister, Claire Coutinho said: “Having children can be really tough as well as bringing so much joy. All families, from time to time, will need a helping hand. Family hubs bring services together helping parents, carers, children and young people to access the support they need more easily. Parenting advice ranges from support with feeding and mental health to guidance on how to give children a head start on their learning.”

As we approach the year anniversary of the conflict in Ukraine, we’re reminded that Ukrainian families and individuals still need our support. Doncaster has always responded to others in their time of need and this situation is no different. Since February last year they’ve had 148 sponsors in total (amounting to 166 groups) across the city, who have stepped forward and accommodated guests. The council are incredibly grateful for their support and now they’re asking if others feel like they can provide help by becoming a ‘rematch host’.

Rematching is for Ukrainians who have already arrived in Doncaster but whose arrangements with their current host have ended (or could not take place at all). Guests under this option are already in Doncaster (or are being housed near Doncaster) while the council try to find a new host for them. Some guests have already stayed with a host family for six months and now need a new family for the second six months.

If you’d like to become a host and would like the council to match you with a Ukrainian family or person already in Doncaster, please email UkraineDateSecure@doncaster.gov.uk to be put on the rematching list. You’ll be asked to complete a ‘Rematching Profile’ and will be invited to meet any potential guests before a rematch is confirmed.

If you know of a Ukrainian family who are already on the Homes for Ukraine Scheme that you would like to host as a ‘rematch host’, please contact UkraineDataSecure@doncaster.gov.uk for council checks to be arranged and the rematch to be formalised. All hosts receive a monthly £350 ‘thank you’ payment for the first six months.

This Friday 17 February, Clive Betts, Labour MP for Sheffield South East and Chair of the Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Committee visited a sustainable food organisation in Sheffield – just weeks before the Government is due to announce where it will allocate new spending for “good causes”, some of which is hoped be used to support community businesses in the North of England.

The visit comes as the Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Committee, which Mr Betts chairs, considers evidence it has received as part of its inquiry into funding for levelling up. It was arranged by Big Society Capital – the UK’s leading financial institution dedicated to social impact.

The Labour stalwart met with Rene Meijer, CEO at Food Works - a social enterprise which used social investment to kick start its critical work intercepting food waste and distributing it to local people on contributewhat-you-can-afford basis through market, cafes, and ready meals. Now the organisation has grown it intercepts 500 tonnes of food waste every year, and serves more than 5,000 people every month across its cafes and market - a number which continues to grow.

The visit comes just before the government is due to announce how it will allocate the English portion of nearly £1 billion of dormant assets that could be used to help level up the UK. A significant portion of

the funds are hoped to be allocated to social investment to invest in social enterprises and community businesses serving disadvantaged communities including in the North of England. Analysis by the Social Investment Forum finds that 43% of social investment deals have gone to Levelling Up Priority 1 Areas, totalling £520 million. The Dormant Assets scheme was first launched over ten years ago has already unlocked more than £800m for good causes across the UK by channelling long-forgotten funds from dormant bank and building society accounts towards good causes. The first allocation of funding led to the creation of Big Society Capital – which has helped grow the total amount of capital invested in social impact in the UK tenfold in ten years. Clive Betts MP said: “Food Works is an incredible success – with a vision to continue going forwards. What I’ve learned today is the importance of dormant assets in supporting social enterprises to achieve their future visions. ” Food Works is a social enterprise building a more fair and sustainable food system, using the principles of mutual aid to grow food, redirect food waste, and run community kitchens and cafes. Its 3 hubs and 18 community partners in the city provide more than a million meals worth of food to the city every year while saving 40,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.

An act of remembrance service will take place at the Doncaster Minster Church of St George, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Doncaster’s adopted warship the destroyer HMS Lightningtorpedoed on 12 March 1943 in the Mediterranean with the loss of forty-five lives. The Reverend Canon David Stevens will conduct the service, with the Right Reverend Sophie Jelley, Bishop of Doncaster. To an invited congregation of officers and serving Sea Cadets, including Ben Parkinson MBE Sea Cadets Unit President, Commodore Phil Waterhouse Naval Regional Commander for Northern England, together with regional dignitaries, including John Holt HM Deputy Lord-Lieutenant South Yorkshire, Ross Jones City Mayor of Doncaster, Ian Pearson Civic Mayor Doncaster, Mark Holbrook Councillor for Armed Forces, Lt Colonel R A McPherson MBE High Sherriff South Yorkshire, Adrian Hunt Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association – SSAFA, together with invited guests. There will be a marching parade of Officers and Sea Cadets through the city prior to the service.

In March 1942, HMS Lightning was adopted by the County Borough of Doncaster as part of a Nationwide Savings

initiative – known as ‘Warship Week’. Doncaster and the surrounding urban areas raised over £800,000 in National Savings and effectively paid for the ship.

A party from the ship including Commander Walters presented the ship’s badge to the Council in October 1942, whilst she was refitting at Chatham. She had been in continuous action having returned after escorting the vital (and now famous) Operation Pedestal to Malta in August 1942. The badge is still on display in the Mansion House.

As a result, a Sea Cadet Corps was created in Doncaster in 1942, known as Training Ship (TS) Lightning and continues to thrive to this day.

In March 1993, to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of her sinking, a small group of the remaining survivors, were invited to a civic reception at the Mansion House by Charles W Verrill, the mayor, Cadets from TS Lightning proudly formed the guard of honour.

A book about the ship’s short history (and association with Doncaster) was published in 2019 with first hand testaments and experiences titled: Struck by Lightning: The Story of HMS Lightning 19411943, John Dann

South yorkShire’S Mayor conVeneS SuMMit to fix broken PubLic tranSPort SySteM

South Yorkshire and regions like it were promised a ‘London-style transport network’ by 2030. That’s just over 350 weeks away.

But with bus cuts looming, and cancelled trains making commuting miserable for thousands across the North, many places feel further away from that than they ever were.

South Yorkshire’s Mayor Oliver Coppard is convening a Transport Summit, to build the vision for the future of the region’s public transport.

A transport network which serves South Yorkshire’s needs is key to a better-connected, more sustainable and healthier region.

South Yorkshire’s Mayor Oliver Coppard said: “Fixing South Yorkshire’s public transport system is critical for our region to thrive. If we want to grow our economy, get healthier and create great places to live, a smarter, greener, faster public transport system is vital. That’s why I want to bring together experts in the field to help us fix our broken public transport system.

“If the Government aren’t going to do it, we need to take matters into our own hands and figure out what a ‘London-style transport network’ that works for South Yorkshire looks like. That’s what this summit will help us do.”

South Yorkshire’s Active Travel Commissioner Ed

Clancy said: ‘Since becoming South Yorkshire’s Active Travel Commissioner, I’ve met with people who want to walk and cycle more, but don’t feel like they can. Mostly that’s because people say they don’t feel able to walk or cycle, or that they don’t feel safe enough to do so on our current infrastructure.

“Ultimately, we want people to be happier, healthier and get to where they need to be easier.

“I believe walking and cycling is an important part of that and it must work in harmony with our plans for buses, trams and trains. I’m really looking forward to this summit and to figure out how we make some vital changes to build a better future for our region.”

The summit will bring together leading experts and will hear from a series of speakers with national and international experience to share best practice, discuss ideas and find solutions to fix the broken public transport network.

The South Yorkshire Transport Summit will take place on March 1st at the National College of Advanced Transport & Infrastructure in Doncaster.

CIU CONFERENCE WEEKEND SET FOR APRIL

The key event during Conference Weekend will be the Union’s Annual Meeting which takes place on Saturday, April 15 in Blackpool and will be chaired by Union President George Smith.

In just a few months time, the CIU’s ConferenceWeekend 2023 will be staged in Blackpool.

The centrepiece of the weekend’s activities will be the Annual Meeting which will take place in the Royal Suite of the Grand Hotel on the morning of Saturday, April 15.

Union President George Smith will chair the meeting which will see delegates consider the Annual Report and Financial Statement, as well as vote on a number of Motions put forward by the NEC.

There will be full details of the various Motions published in Club Journal in the run-up to the

Annual Meeting.

During the proceedings, Union Accountant Uto Ekanem will present the Financial Report, while the meeting will conclude after a closing address by General Secretary Kenneth D Green CMD ACM.

Speaking about the 2023 Annual Meeting, President George Smith said:

“ConferenceWeekend is the major event in the CIU calendar so I would urge all clubs to send delegates to this year’s event so that as many of our members as possible can have a say on the future of the Union.

“The Annual Meeting and associated events, including the Beer & Trades Exhibition on Friday, April 14, also offer a great opportunity to network with CIU members from across the country, as well as pick up expert advice from suppliers.”

CAMRA raises a pint to £2 bus fare extension

The Campaign for Real Ale has welcomed the decision to extend cheaper bus fares until June to help people get to and from their local.

Commenting on the Department

for Transport’s decision to extend the capped £2 single journey bus fare in England until June,

CAMRA Chairman Nik Antona said:

“Cheaper bus fares are great news for the beer and pub trade, making it affordable for people to go out to visit their locals.

“Extending the £2 bus fare scheme for England is something that we had called on Transport ministers to do so that pubs, social clubs, breweries and cider producers grappling with the cost-of-business crisis can benefit from people being able to get to the pub in an affordable and environmentally friendly way.

“We’ll be raising a glass to this decision and we look forward to meeting with Buses Minister Richard Holden MP in his North West Durham constituency soon to show how the £2 bus fare can benefit pubgoers and hospitality businesses alike.”

Friends since they were neighbours in the sixties Dave Kelly & Bob Hall have had illustrious careers in the British Blues Scene and have won many awards for their artistry. Dave Kelly, singer, guitarist and songwriter, is a founder member of The Blues Band (which has recently celebrated its 40th anniversary). Dave cut his teeth in the backing bands of Howlin’ Wolf and John Lee Hooker, and has played with Buddy Guy, Son House & Muddy Waters. The Blues Band have released around twenty albums, and Dave has fifteen more either solo or with his own Dave Kelly Band Bob Hall, singer, pianist and songwriter, is a founder member of The Groundhogs and Savoy Brown.

Bob has also accompanied Howlin’ Wolf and John Lee Hooker and a host of blues stars including Little Walter, Lightnin’ Slim and Homesick James. Bob has played on well over a hundred albums, including four solo piano albums and dozens more as band leader or co-leader. Down the years Dave and Bob have had a number of critically acclaimed joint projects, have played in each other’s bands and on each other’s records. With such a pedigree it seemed natural to get together a show to exploit their joint talents. Complimenting the duo is Hilary Blythe on bass, an emotive singer of classic blues and Bob’s partner off-stage.

BLADES LOSE OUT IN 5 GOAL

United lost a five-goal thriller in the capital in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Saturday lunchtime.

Despite goals from Manchester City loanees

Tommy Doyle and James McAtee, who twice restored parity, a Tom Bradshaw hat-trick proved to be the difference between the two sides at The Den. Boss Heckingbottom made three changes for the trip to the capital. Basham, Doyle and Jebbison all started, with Ahmedhodžić, McAtee and Ndiaye all dropped to the bench. The opening six minutes were eventful to say the least. Inside 60 seconds, Foderingham needed treatment following a clash almost from the kick-off which Millwall launched into the final third. Having seemingly recovered, the Blades stopper produced an excellent save to deny BRADSHAW, but in the hosts next attack, Burke raced forward from Long’s throw out and the former Barnsley striker made no mistake this time firing home at the near post.

The hosts had started excellently and went looking for a second, but thankfully Foderingham tipped over a stinging effort from Burke after Millwall had seized the ball in midfield and moved forward quickly again. United then survived a major let-off as Bradshaw was adjudged offside as Foderingham collided with him, after he had latched on to Copper’s header forward from Wallace’s free-kick. As the half hour approached, United had penalty appeals waved away by referee Martin, despite Saville having hold of Berge’s arm as he advanced into the area. But it was Millwall who continued to have the upper hand with Voglsammer and Burke particularly dangerous down the flanks. On 39 minutes though, United restored parity with DOYLE curling home a wonderful free-kick past the dive of Long after Cooper had fouled Jebbison. Before the break, both Flemming and Berge were cautioned. United started the second half positively and from

Norwood’s inswinging corner, Robinson glanced a header wide of McBurnie at the far post. The Scottish international then picked out the run of Jebbison, he did everything right only for Long to save with his legs. United’s first change saw Osborn introduced at the expense of goalscorer Doyle. On 63 minutes, Millwall retook the lead with a swift break. Flemming got the better of Basham on halfway and from Voglsammer’s cross, BRADSHAW placed a header into the bottom corner beyond Foderingham’s desperate dive. That goal prompted a second change, with Ndiaye replacing Jebbison and twice in quick succession Berge had chances to equaliser, on the second occasion, Cooper produced an excellent lastditch intervention.

Despite the concession of Bradshaw’s second goal, United continued to throw numbers and somehow Long kept out Basham’s header from Norwood’s corner, before reacting quickest to clear the loose ball. Cooper somehow

got away with a block on McBurnie, who was then booked following another clash moments later and Bogle followed the striker into the book, despite winning the ball in a challenge with Saville. As the clock ticked down, United poured numbers forward again and having seen Berge denied via the aid of a deflection by Long, MCATEE showed great composure to fire into the roof of the net with his right foot after Bogle had kept a corner alive to level for a second time. But with three minutes remaining, the hosts snatched it through BRADSHAW, who completed his hat-trick from close-range from Voglsammer’s low ball into the six-yard box. Five minutes of added time were indicated and the referee and despite United’s best efforts, they couldn’t find a third equaliser as they slipped to a first away loss since October, with Robinson and Honeyman both booked before the final whistle.

There are just 100 shirts up for grabs and we anticipate these selling out extremely quickly, so we would encourage anyone wanting to purchase one to do so at their earliest possible convenience.

All monies raised go to supporting the charity thanks to the kindness of Puma Teamwear who have donated the shirts.

Darren Moore hailed the fans and his players following the 5-2 victory over MK Dons.

Wednesday had to dig deep and show real resilience for victory, twice coming from behind to put the game to bed in the closing stages. Pre-match, the gaffer called on Wednesdayites to stay right behind the team throughout the 90 minutes and he duly got his wish after MK burst into an early lead and then restored their advantage following an equaliser.

The Owls motored on to take the game away from the visitors in a dominant

second half display.

Moore told swfc.co.uk: “I am absolutely delighted with the fans and for the fans. The way they got behind the team after we conceded early was exactly what we would have wanted.

“They sang their hearts out and I can’t tell you the difference it makes to the players. They cheered every tackle, made a superb atmosphere and they have gone home happy knowing they have played their part.

“We are on this journey together. This is what I talk about when I say we are aligned as a football club

with that oneness, that unity.

“The players responded and credit to all of them today because we got the job done and we move on.” Moore shuffled his pack in the rearguard, giving breathers to Aden Flint and Akin Famewo after a demanding recent schedule.

He added: “I just thought Aden and Akin were in the red zone so I took them out of the firing line today. I have said to all of them, make sure you are ready because this is a squad game and you will all be called on.

“The substitutes had a

wonderful impact today and that’s what you want, that’s what you’re looking for from the bench.

“We are back to one game weeks for a while, the players can get more rest time between games and we get back to work on the training ground.”

TODAY wAS AN OPPORTUNITY THAT PASSED US BY

Rotherham United boss

Matt Taylor cited his side’s lack of a cutting edge when they were imposing themselves on the game as the reason for their 2-0 defeat at home to Coventry City.

The Millers ascerted themselves on the clash with the Sky Blues in the opening 45 minutes but were dealt a blow in the form of Jamie Allen’s

opener just after the restart. Speaking after the game Taylor said:

“That first half probably warranted a little bit more than what we went in at half time with.

“Jordan Hugill’s free header was another chance where we look back and think what could have been.

“It was then a real blow to concede that goal early on

in the second half.

“It took the stuffing out of us and we looked more ‘leggy’ and then under pressure executions seemed to let us down - even towards the end where we got some big bodies on the pitch. We didn’t quite get that ball in and around them and close to them.

“First half I thought it was a relatively even game but

we had the better of the opportunities.

“We certainly had the better of the field position and put them under pressure.

“A defensive lapse and a good bit of play from the opposition early in the second half and all of a sudden we’re chasing the game.

“We’re searching for something in and attacking sense.”

L ACK OF CLINICAL EDGE COST US AT SUTTON: SCHOFIELD

Danny Schofield felt an absence of a clinical edge in both boxes cost Rovers during the defeat at Sutton United.

Rovers were the better side during the first half in particular but could not make the pressure count and fell behind when Coby Rowe capitalised on a mistake to head home for Sutton. David Ajiboye added a second for the hosts as Rovers were caught on the counter chasing an equaliser.

Schofield on how the game played out:

“We were full of confidence coming to Sutton and I thought in the first half especially we played some really good football between both boxes. I felt really positive at half time but unfortunately we didn’t get the result.

“Starting games is something we’ve tried to address and I think the lads have been excellent in the last four games in terms of being the better team on that front.

“We knew it was going to

be a difficult game and we wanted to be on the front foot. We knew we’d have to defend long, direct balls and I think we did it for the majority of the game.

“We started both halves well but ultimately moments in both boxes cost us. I don’t think we were clinical in their box to finish the action and, although it was unfortunate that Tommy Rowe slipped, we didn’t nail certain actions in our box.

“The lads put in a real good effort and I can never blame them for that. They leave everything on the pitch and that’s a nonnegotiable - it’s what you have to do.

“The football we’re trying to play, I felt it was there in large spells between both boxes.”

On Rovers’ performance after falling behind:

“Sutton were always going to come out and take the game to us in the second half. They were always going to put more direct balls into our last line and look for first and second

contacts.

“The game swung a little bit but I felt that if one team was going to be win it then it would be us based on the balance of play. That wasn’t to be because we weren’t good enough in both boxes. Ultimately Sutton won the game and they deserved that.”

On chasing the game:

“We put fresh players on the pitch because we wanted more energy and more intensity in those final actions. The second goal, I’ll take that. We committed a lot of players forward and stayed in the second phase so we were open at the back. We were chasing the game because we came to win a game

of football but it wasn’t to be.”

On the travelling Rovers support:

“I felt they were outstanding. The sang throughout the game and I’m gutted for them that they couldn’t travel back north with the win. We’ll continue to fight.”

On the penalty incident with Kyle Hurst:

“I think we should have had a penalty. I said to the fourth official that it was a penalty and he said Kyle should have gone down. If he’s saying that to me, he’s telling my player to dive, I’ve got a very honest player. That tells me it was a penalty.”
