BIG SCREEN CELEBRATIONS

South Yorkshire will be hosting two big screen events to show the Coronation of His Majesty

The King and Her Majesty

The Queen Consort in May. The two screens will be put up at The Glass Works in Barnsley and The Peace Gardens in Sheffield and will mean people can come together to celebrate the historic moment.

The Coronation takes place on Saturday 6th May and is being broadcast live by the BBC from Westminster Abbey, where their Majesties will be crowned at the same location as Her Late Majesty The Queen 70

years ago.

South Yorkshire’s Mayor Oliver Coppard said: The Coronation will be a truly historic event, celebrated by people across our country, and across the world. So I’m pleased that we’ll be able to bring people together in our communities here in South Yorkshire, to witness the crowning of our new King. I know people in our region have huge affection for the Royal Family, and I’ve no doubt the big screens will prove to be a popular way to engage with such an important moment in our modern history.”

South Yorkshire Mayoral

Combined Authority secured funding for the screens through the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), who have confirmed sites across other UK locations. Barnsley Council and Sheffield Council will be announcing more details of the weekend’s activities in due course.

Leader of Sheffield City Council, Cllr Terry Fox said:

“The Kings Coronation will be a once in a lifetime moment for many, and so we want this to be a special celebratory occasion in Sheffield. The big screen will allow people from all over the city, and wider, to

come and join us, with their friends and family, enjoy the celebrations, have a laugh and some good, patriotic fun!”

The Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr Sarah-Jane Tattersall, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be live streaming the Coronation ceremony on a large screen in our fabulous Glass Works Square. This will provide a wonderful opportunity for our communities to come together and share this historical milestone. The screening will form part of a free coronation celebration event that we’re hosting in Barnsley town centre

providing a programme of entertainment, activities and performances for all the family to enjoy. We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors to the town centre for this momentous occasion as we welcome our new King to the throne.” A celebratory weekend for the Coronation will also see a Concert at Windsor Castle on Sunday 7 May and DCMS have announced that iconic locations across the UK will be lit up using projections, lasers, drone displays and illuminations.

Luke’s goLf day 2023

Aim for a hole in one as St Luke’s Hospice takes to the greens for its annual Golf Day. The popular sporting challenge, organised in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Sheffield, will be held at Abbeydale Golf Club on Friday, June 9, with the support of headline sponsor Bruce & Butler.

Open to teams of four players – from scratch to 24 handicap golfers – the day costs £275 per team of four and includes a two-course dinner and prizes.

“We are delighted to be returning to the greens, celebrating the 26th anniversary of our Golf Day,” said St Luke’s Senior Fundraising Manager Matt Sheridan.

“Our special thanks to Bruce & Butler for once again being our headline sponsor - their director, Matt Bruce, is a long-term St Luke’s supporter and also a keen Golf Day participant so this is a perfect event for them to be supporting. “Interest is, as ever, already high but we do still have places available so please do get in touch as quickly as possible to avoid disappointment.”

Good NEws for Motorists

National Highways is lifting more than 1,400 miles of roadworks this Easter Bank Holiday to help motorists enjoy smoother journeys. More than 98 per cent of England’s motorway and major A road network will be free from roadworks over the holiday period. The roadworks will be removed from England’s major A-road and motorway network by 6am on Thursday 6 April and not put back in place until Tuesday 11 April. Drivers are also being reminded to leave plenty of space when overtaking HGVs and to make sure their vehicle is roadworthy.

Dave Harford, Traffic Officer for National Highways said: “This is the first bank holiday of the year, so we expect the roads to be busy with people looking to make the most of a long weekend.

National Highways is also reminding motorists; check tyre pressures, tread depth and tyre age including the spare, before setting off.

Dave added: “Although the legal limit for tyre tread depth is 1.6mm, we recommend you don’t let the tread get that low. Changing the tyre at 2mm in summer and 3 mm in winter is good practice and maintains overall good tyre performance in all conditions. Look out for cuts or wear over the full width of the tyre and don’t forget to check the sidewall. To check your tyre pressure, visit most fuel and service station forecourts, which have an air machine for checking and inflating your tyre pressure.”

If you are stopped by the police and found with illegal tyres, you could receive a £2,500 fine and 3 penalty points per tyre.

Things to consider are:

• Tyres: Ensure tyre pressures are suitable for the load and check the condition of tyres,

including the spare. Look out for cuts or wear across the whole tyre including sidewall.

• Engine oil: Check oil levels regularly and top up if needed. Take your car back to the garage if you’re topping up more than usual.

• Water: Always keep your screen wash topped up with a good ratio of water and screen wash to maximise the cleaning efficiency so you can clear debris or dirt off your windscreen easily.

• Lights: If your indicators, hazard lights, headlights, fog lights, reverse lights or brake lights are not functioning properly, you are putting yourself and your family at risk. In addition, your vehicle may fail its MoT.

• Fuel: Before setting out make sure you have enough fuel to get to your destination. Running out of fuel can put you, your family and other road users at risk unnecessarily. If you experience problems with your vehicle and you can’t leave the motorway you should always try to go left - to an emergency area, a hard shoulder, motorway services or slip road hard shoulder.

But if that is not possible and you have stopped in a live lane or feel your life is in danger you must stay in your vehicle with your seatbelt and hazard lights on and call 999 immediately.

People heading to France using the Kent ports are advised to plan ahead and leave extra time for their journey. The Port of Dover and Eurotunnel are expected to be busy throughout Easter, and people are also urged to check with their operator before they travel. Drivers should also take a few minutes to plan their journeys in advance.

Live updates on traffic flow can be found at www.trafficengland.com/.

You will not need photo ID if you vote by post or have appointed a proxy, however your proxy will need their own photo ID if they vote for you in a polling station. If you are registered to vote but don’t hold one of the acceptable forms of photo ID, you can apply for a voter authority certificate free of charge following verification of your identity. The voter authority certificate can only be used for the purposes of voting in a polling station. It cannot be used as proof of age or identity for any other reason.

Which polls require photo ID

The requirement to show photo ID in the polling station will apply at the following polls from 4 May 2023:

• Sheffield City Council and parish council elections

• Police and Crime

Commissioner Election

Combined Authority • Mayoral Election

• Local or national referenda (if held)

• Member of Parliament recall petition (if held)

• UK Parliamentary byelection

• UK Parliamentary General Election (from October 2023)

What you will need to include with your application

When you apply for a voter authority certificate, you must provide a suitable photograph, either through the online application process or submitted with a paper application. It will need to meet the following requirements:

• a close-up photograph of your head and shoulders, without any other items or people in the background and without any covering of the head, unless worn for religious beliefs or medical reasons

• in sharp focus and clear

without blur

• in colour and taken against a plain, light background,

• free from redeye, shadows and not in the reflection of windows or mirrors

• resembles a true likeness without alteration

Your photo must show you:

• facing forwards with nothing covering your face

• looking straight at the camera

• with a plain facial expression

• with eyes open and visible (no sunglasses or being covered by hair)

If you are unable to meet the above criteria, you will be able to explain why, such as with a medical condition.

How to apply

The deadline to apply for a voter authority certificate will be 5pm, six working days before polling day. For the City and Parish Council elections on 4 May 2023, the deadline for applications will be 5pm on Tuesday 25 April 2023. You can apply for a voter authority certificate online or by completing a paper application with a photo enclosed. Easy read and large print versions of the form are also available.

What happens next

Once verified by the Electoral Registration Officer, it is expected that the voter authority certificate will be printed within one to two working days and delivered by Royal Mail. You can request to collect your voter authority certificate from the Town Hall, but you will need to provide a reason for this, and it may be rejected. If collection is agreed, you must collect the voter authority certificate in person. You cannot send anyone else to collect it.

Residents in South Yorkshire can nominate a good cause to receive £1,000 as part of Benefact Group’s Movement for Good Awards.

Now in its fifth year, the Movement for Good Awards will once again see more than £1million gifted to charities up and down the UK and Ireland. Since the awards began, people in South Yorkshire have submitted over 30,200 nominations and 30 South Yorkshire based charities have benefited from valuable donations. While the pandemic and the current economic climate has had an adverse effect on cash donations, the amount of people choosing to volunteer their time for a good cause is rising1.

From today, South Yorkshire residents can give a minute to nominate a charity online at www. movementforgood.com.

The Movement for Goods Awards has gifted over £4million to charities in the UK and Ireland since the initiative started. Winners will be drawn at random and the more times a charity is nominated the more chance it has of being selected. 150 winning charities will be announced from 1 June, with a further 150 revealed in September. Further gifts will be

awarded throughout the year. Mark Hews, Group Chief Executive at Benefact Group, says:

“We are immensely proud to be supporting many hundreds of charities through our Movement for Good Awards for the fifth year running. We know that £1,000 can make a huge difference so we’re asking that people give a minute of their time to nominate a cause they care about to receive an award. Owned by a charity ourselves, charitable giving is at the heart of what we do and all of our available profits go to good causes. With financial strain continuing to impact many households the Movement for Good Awards represents a great way for people to continue to support causes close to their hearts, without worrying about an additional cost. Any charity can win no matter how large or small and even with just one nomination. So find a minute, jump online and nominate – because that small amount of time is invaluable for charities.” Benefact Group has donated almost £200million to charitable causes since 2014 and has just been recognised as the third biggest corporate giver in the UK2. The organisation aims to reach £250million in donations by 2025.

The Council has successfully bid for over £8 million of government funding, through two different schemes, that will improve energy efficiency and the warmth of homes in the city that are most in need of heating upgrades.

Through the Homes Upgrade Grant (HUG) 2 the Council has secured just over £4 million which is aimed at low income, private sector homes that are off-the-gas-grid with their main source of heating being another fuel other than gas. Further details about the scheme, and how to make an enquiry or application can be found at: https://www. warmhomessheffield. org.uk/

Warm Homes Sheffield has just recently launched and is a partnership between Sheffield City Council and energy experts AgilityEco. This partnership provides a route to access a number of energy saving programmes including grant funding and energy advice and support that can help Sheffield residents to reduce energy use and stay warm. The Council has also been successful in its bid for £4m of Social Housing Decarbonisation Funding (SHDF) which will contribute toward

significant energy efficiency improvements to 370 Council homes that will benefit from important external wall insulation.

The recently launched ECO4 (Energy Company Obligation) Flex offer by the Council is another opportunity for households across the city to seek grant funding for energy improvements in their home. Further details of this scheme are at Warm Homes Sheffield: https://www. warmhomessheffield. org.uk/ Councillor Douglas Johnson, Chair of Housing Policy Committee, said: “This is such welcome news for us and an important step from both a climate change perspective and for helping people to keep warm. It can only be good for the environment for people being able to upgrade their homes to modern, more efficient standards of heating. I’d encourage people to have a look at the Warm Homes Sheffield website so that they find out more about what it means for them and their household.”

JOHN REILLY & FRIENDS BRINGS BACHARACH BACK TO THE BALLROOM

Following hugely successful concerts around the country, including re-opening Sheffield City Hall with a sold out show in September 2021, Britain’s finest song writers and session musicians are happy to be back in the Ballroom, to perform their ‘Definitive Burt Bacharach’ show. This is a sophisticated master class in melody, honouring not

only the fantastic tunes, but also now celebrating the life of the legend that was BURT BACHARACH, writer of one of America’s greatest songbooks for artistes such as Dionne Warwick, Cilla Black, Dusty Springfield, Aretha Franklin, Elvis Presley, Gene Pitney, The Carpenters and so many more.

Atlantic recording artist John Reilly fronts this concert with his spiritual and soulful vocals and with hand-picked world class session players who usually back artists such as Paul Carrack and Take That. Female vocals are elegantly performed by Miss Rachel Raynor and the Musical Director overseeing this dazzling

non-stop parade of classic songs is Canadian pianist and composer Lewis Nitikman.

Standing at the Sky’s Edge musical moves to London’s West End

Sheffield-based musical Standing at the Sky’s Edge will transfer to the West End aftr it’s recent success at the Olivier Awards, appearing at the Gillian Lynne Theatre from February 2024.

The show, which was named best new musical last Sunday, is a love letter to Sheffield and a history of modern Britain told through the stories of the Park Hill estate, the story charts the hopes and dreams of three generations over the course of six tumultuous decades.

It was written by Chris Bush with music by Richard Hawley and

opened at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre in 2019.

Mr Hawley also won an Olivier, alongside musical director Tom Deering, for best original score or orchestration for the show.

The show opened at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre in 2019 and transferred to the National Theatre in London in 2023

Mr Hawley told the BBC: “In all honesty I never really thought this story would leave the inside of our minds but to see it blossom and grow from a heartfelt set of ideas exchanged in a Sheffield pub to sell out

shows at the Crucible and National theatres every single night has been a very powerful experience.

“This would’ve been more than enough for me to say the least, but the West End? Next you’ll be telling me Sheffield Wednesday are going up this season!”

Ms Bush said she was “absolutely thrilled that we’ll get to introduce Park Hill to a whole new set of audiences in 2024”. Director Robert Hastie added that the transfer to the Gillian Lynne was “the perfect theatre for this story’s next chapter”.

Coronation Street:

Paul’s day takes a shocking turn as the neurologist reveals bad news. Desperate for cash, he turns to Damon for a job - but is it dodgy? Summer is not convinced as Amy does a u-turn on her story - especially when she flees Speed Dahl after spotting Aaron. Brian asks Mary for help but she gets the wrong end of the stick. Craig unfortunately mishears when Faye suggests a present for Miley - and buys her a baseball bat & glove! Dee Dee spots chemistry between Damon & Sarah. Glenda spots a business opportunity. Michael puts his case for a cut of the profits - but Stephen is distracted as Carla arrives.

Emmerdale:

As Leyla enjoys a night with Caleb, who is spying on them? Especially since Callum has been released on bail. Rhona is shocked by the sudden appearance of Gus, her ex-husband. What has brought him to the village? And how will Rhona respond? Mary moves in for a kiss on Faye. Where is their relationship going? The atmosphere at Home Farm is icy following Gabby’s engagement to Nicky.

Ravi tells a desperate Denise that he intends to take things up a level with Chelsea - but following a mysterious phone call from her, Ravi is arrested by Callum. But Denise & Kim are mortified to see him out enjoying a drink with Chelsea. Freddie goes to school to confront demons from his past, with Harvey, Jean & Bobby for moral support.

United secured another crucial three points with a workmanlike display in soggy Norfolk on Saturday afternoon.

James McAtee’s sixth of the season moments after the hour proved decisive, but in truth, it was the least the Blades deserved against the disappointing Canaries at Carrow Road.

Boss Heckingbottom named an unchanged starting XI from the FA Cup quarter-final success over Blackburn Rovers for the return to Championship action.

The only change to the matchday 18 saw Osula replace the injured Jebbison. The first half was a cat and mouse affair, with United having the better

of the chances, after Aarons went down easily following a challenge from Lowe. The Blades had their first sight of goal on 17 minutes, but Berge glanced a header wide from Doyle inviting corner.

Moments after the half hour, Baldock and Aarons clashed in front of the dugouts, following a brief disagreement over who should have the ball, the two right wingbacks were cautioned by referee Bond, with Sara then joining them in the book for a lunge on Doyle as United looked to break. The action of the half came nine minutes before the interval when Ahmedhodžić rose highest from another

United Women forward

Mia Enderby has been called up by England for the team’s upcoming Under 19 Euro 2023 qualifiers in Switzerland.

The young Lionesses will take on Slovenia, Belarus and Spain, with the group winners qualifying for the final tournament in Belgium in July.

All the games will take

place at the Colovray Sports Centre in Nyon during the upcoming April international break.

Enderby has been in good form the Blades of late, scoring the winner at London City Lionesses last month and putting in a top performance in the team’s win at Bristol City on Sunday.

Doyle corner, but his header came back off the bar and was subsequently cleared.

Berge was cautioned early in the second period for hauling down Sargent, whilst Foderingham had to produce a strong hand to avert the danger from a low cross by Marquinhos. And on 62 minutes, the Blades deservedly hit the front as MCATEE got the crucial touch to Lowe’s mishit cross, despite strong appeals for offside from the hosts.

Both sides made a double change with around 20 minutes remaining and Sharp’s first involvement almost yielded a second, but his strike struck the post and Baldock

couldn’t direct the rebound on target. City struggled to find any fluency or momentum, as Sargent stuck a shot well over from a promising position, as United managed the game excellently, with Fleck and then Basham introduced to see things out which they duly did, despite a late effort from Marquinhos in added time.

Blades: Foderingham, Baldock, Berge (Norwood 69), McBurnie (Sharp 69), Egan, Lowe, Ahmedhodzic, Robinson, Doyle (Basham 89), McAtee (Fleck 86), Ndiaye.

Unused: Davies, Bogle, Osula.

The FA has published guidance to support participants and employees across the footballing community during the holy month of Ramadan, which began on Wednesday 22 March and is expected to last until Friday 21 April.

The guide includes information on how fasting and other lifestyle changes during this period may impact participants across adult and youth football, with advice on exercise and nutrition for practising Muslims, as well as guidance for non-Muslim players and staff to ensure their footballing environment is as inclusive and welcoming as possible.

The guidance, which can be viewed at sheffieldfa. com, was created with input from Nujum Sports, and aims to answer many of the questions that players, coaches and administrators may have around Ramadan and how it might affect football at any level.

Darren Moore is looking squarely ahead as the Owls head into the Easter period on the back of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Lincoln. The Imps posted their 19th draw of the season to leave Wednesday frustrated after Danny Mandroiu cancelled out Michael Smith’s opener. Moore said: “The boys gave everything and I’ve just told them to keep their heads up. We deserved to win the game but Lincoln are a resolute team, they dig in deep and they

10-man Millers for resilient mentality following Hull draw

Millers boss Matt Taylor was quick to pay tribute to his side’s back-tothe-wall effort as they earned a crucial share of the spoils against Hull City at a sell-out MKM Stadium, despite having sub Domingos Quina red carded late on.

Schofield: We were well below standard in Crewe defeat

Danny Schofield felt Rovers fell ‘well short’ of the standards required during the telling first half of the defeat to Crewe Alexandra.

Two goals in six first half minutes saw Crewe run out winners at the Eco-Power Stadium with Rovers unable to fight back despite an improved second half performance.

On how the game played out: “It’s very disappointing. There’s lots of emotions after a defeat but the manner of the performance, particularly in the first half, fell well short. I felt we were physically very poor in every aspect - the duels, the ability to run in beyond the opponent.

have drawn a lot of their games.

“We almost scored with the last kick of the game but it wasn’t to be so we dust ourselves down and move on to the two games over Easter.

“There is a lot of football to be played. We have gone back to the top of the table and we have to stay focused and stay positive.

“We had Mallik back today, he’s got a good 20 minutes under the belt that will stand him in good stead. We’re looking to getting one or two

“We put bodies on the line. We showed resilience and it was an incredible effort from the players. It was important we took something from the game. We had to withstand some pressure near the end.

“We knew what Hull were all about in terms of their possession. I thought we kept them at arms’ length for the majority of the game. Viktor (Johansson) had to make one save but it was actually a foul on Chieo (Ogbene) in the build-up. We did not make the most of our attacking opportunities but that’s not me being disappointed with the performance in any way.

Physically we just got swallowed up in the first half.

“There was lots of emotion at half time. It’s not good enough, that first half performance. The goals we’re conceding and the manner in which we do, is disappointing.

“We made changes and I felt the team got back into the game with the ascendency but not creating enough chances with the possession we had. Crewe managed the game really well at 2-0 up and it was always going to be difficult for us from that point.”

On confidence in the camp:

“Form is very poor. The last nine games has brought one win and two draws and that does affect things. It affects confidence, the emotion of people, players, supporters and everyone around the club. We need to just continue working as hard as possible to turn it around. That’s what we’ll try to do.”

back and that will be a big boost.

“We’ve dominated the game, we’ve had all the possession and Lincoln have scored with their only chance they had.

“But like I say, there is

a lot of football to be played, there will be twists, there will be turns, the players will be in for recovery tomorrow, then we prepare for Oxford on Friday.”

“We had enough setpieces to hurt them more. We were growing in confidence at that time, but the red card meant that we were holding on for the last 10-15 minutes including added time.

“The red card showed it was important we didn’t open our team up. We had an attacking set-piece and it was a counter-attack and a breakaway moment.

Domingos Quina actually took our set-piece. He was thinking the right thing with his recovery run. He had to try and make the tackle and make the block. The referee has made the right decision because

On how players have stepped up following injuries:

“They need to. They’ve been given the opportunities now. The players that have been starting games since I’ve been in here are injured. It’s down to others to step up and show they can be counted for.”

On Jack Goodman’s performance off the bench:

“To bring Jack on at 2-0 down at half time and for him to come on and make an impact, I thought he did very well. I thought he was one of

it was outside the box. We have no qualms in relation to the red card. Full credit to Dom for trying to do the right thing.

“We are always looking for three points, but if you can’t take three, make sure you get one, and that’s what we did.”

the positives from the performance.

“He’s been doing really well in the U18s, scoring more than 20 goals. He’s been training with the first team now for quite a while. It was deserved. He got an appearance because he’s been doing really well in the sessions.”

On Tommy Rowe’s 600th senior appearance:

“It’s some feat to get 600 career appearances. That’s testament to the effort and hard work he’s put in over his footballing career.”
