FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR AIRPORT’S FUTURE

City of Doncaster Council’s Cabinet is being asked to ring-fence over £3million towards the legal and programme costs associated with its ongoing fight to save Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

On Wednesday April 12,

City of Doncaster Council’s Cabinet will discuss a report that sets out the current position in relation to Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) and the extensive activity being undertaken to secure the future of the airport. It also outlines the initial programme costs of up to £3.1m if a Compulsory Purchase Order is required.

Doncaster Sheffield Airport closed at the end of 2022 following a short

strategic review by its owners, despite the offer of financial support from South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and City of Doncaster Council.

The project to re-open DSA has been called South Yorkshire Airport City. It aims to re-open the airport and grow a cluster of businesses and commercial activity that complements traditional aerospace functions, including logistics. The wider airport city development could incorporate employment, Research & Development, retail, leisure and residential opportunities, with excellent transport links, supporting new inward

investment into Doncaster and South Yorkshire.

Given the significant number of jobs and the major economic potential of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, the report highlights the council’s intention that the airport should be acquired from Peel with a view to its reopening.

Whilst the Council understands that there have been credible financial offers to purchase DSA, to date none of these has been accepted by current owners, Peel. Peel has recently offered a lease of the airport to City of Doncaster Council.

Discussions are taking place to progress this option and to explore whether a lease at a longer term and on a

different commercial basis than that initially offered by Peel could provide a basis upon which to achieve the Council’s objectives. It is hoped that the legal and programme costs will ultimately be covered by regional funding recovered from a loan previously extended to Peel, with a decision by SYMCA on this funding anticipated in June 2023.

Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones said: “Sadly, our award-winning airport has now closed, but the fight is not over! Our aim is to reach agreement on the acquisition of the airport with Peel, but if necessary we will seek to compulsorily purchase the site and we

are preparing for that eventuality now, should it be required.

“The acquisition process will take time and it will not be cheap. However, this airport has the potential to be the jewel in the crown of the Doncaster and South Yorkshire economy. It is an investment in the future of this great city and the region. That is why this report to Cabinet sets out the latest position and asks for the support to progress our endeavours for the site’s future. I hope a sale can be achieved but, if not, we have to plan for other ways to secure the airport for the aviation industry, our communities and our economy.”

The Band of the Coldstream Guards confirmed to lead Doncaster’s Armed Forces Day parade

Doncaster is excited to welcome the Band of the Coldstream Guards at this year’s Armed Forces Day parade on Saturday 24 June.

The annual event to honour the Armed Forces Community is always a major occasion in Doncaster’s events calendar and an opportunity to come together to show our appreciation and gratitude to our brave servicemen and women.

The parade will see the band march through the streets of the city centre before arriving at a new and much larger venue for the Armed Forces Day event –Elmfield Park. Historically the event has seen a parade march to the Market Square, but the growth of the event in the last few years and the massive increase in parade participants means we’ve had to find a bigger space – but a space that allows the parade to still march through the city centre streets.

Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, said: “We are tremendously honoured to welcome the Band of the Coldstream Guards to Doncaster this year at our first Armed Forces Day as a new city.

“This is very exciting news and having the band join us at what is always a well attended and popular event will create a wonderful and never before seen spectacle through the city centre. The atmosphere will be fantastic.”

The Coldstream Guards were presented with a Freedom of Entry to Doncaster in 2021, the highest honour that our city can bestow on a military unit and was made to recognise and celebrate the long and proud history that Doncaster shares with the regiment. The Freedom of Entry is granted to a military contingent and bears the same honour and respect as granting the Honorary Freedom of the Borough to an individual. Freedom of Entry allows the unit the right to march through the city bearing arms, and colours flying, if they so choose.

The Coldstream Guards have the distinction of being the British Army’s oldest and longest serving Corps in continuous existence and we are extremely proud our association with the regiment.

Doncaster’s links with the regiment date back to 1660 when the General Monks regiment of foot, marched from Coldstream in Scotland to London to assist in the restoration of Charles II to the throne. During this march the regiment stopped off in Doncaster to rest and gather provisions. History has it the first “Donny lads” followed the drum and thus began a connection and history with Doncaster which stretches back over 360 years.

Tramlines FesTival unveils even more arTisTs

The 15th edition of Tramlines Festival, Sheffield’s Biggest Party, has just got bigger with the addition of even more music and quirky entertainment for the 2023 event. Taking place over threedays at Hillsborough Park, Sheffield from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd July, this latest announcement also reveals the lineup of Tramlines’ very own pub, The Open Arms. Famed for its weird and wonderful acts and games, its ‘Speakers Corner’ bill of lyricists and spoken word artists curated by former Sheffield Poet Laureate Otis Mensah, and crowd-pulling DJ sets programmed by the Leadmill, there’s a lot more now in store for the celebratory event.

A whopping number of artists have already been announced for Tramlines 2023, which includes Richard Ashcroft, Courteeners, Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott, Sugababes, the DMA’s and so much more. Artists leading this latest announcement include the UK’s 2023 Eurovision entrant, Mae Muller. Sam Ryder road blocked the second stage in his appearance last year so Mae Muller is expected to follow suit!

Unfortunately the previously announced Beebadoobe can no longer play at Tramlines, fear not however, as organisers have added more chart-topping names including the outstanding voice of Ella Henderson, and Professor Green who’s back with a new EP later this year.

The hotly tipped shoegaze-Britpop outfit Chappaqua Wrestling have also been added alongside even more scorching talent including indie rap punk three-piece, Bilk, The K’s, Bonnie

Kemplay and Pattern & Push 2022 winner, Sarinity Jones.

The Open Arms stage has been an absolute hit with festival goers ever since its arrival in 2021 for its buzzing atmosphere and cabaret-style billing.

Tramlines is thrilled to reveal the return of Shaun Williams’ Barrioke for 2023 which pulls in one of the biggest crowds of the weekend. There will be sing-alongs galore with Hip Hop Karaoke and Tragedy - Heavy Metal Bee Gees from NYC- games from Musical Bingo and Shell Suit Cher Bingo, world music from The Mariachis and German oompah band Brasswurst, and many more notto-missed performances including, The Daniel Wakeford Experience, and the band born out of Sheffield’s disability arts charity, Under The Stars.

The Open Arms is also host to ‘Speakers Corner’, the only place on site to discover cutting edge lyricists, insightful poets and spoken word artists. Poet and hip-hop artist himself, Otis Mensah, is back to programme an exciting mix of talent that includes, San Diego rapper RoQy TyRaiD, a takeover from Sheffield’s urban lyricist competition Slambarz featuring The 1 Devotion and Young Eman, the caressing tones of Aka Kelzz, the emerging talents of poet Tai Ògún, Sheffield’s newest Poet Laureate, Danaë Wellington, and so much more.

Dominic Heslop, Co-founder of Slambarz said, “We are so grateful for the opportunity to showcase the incredible talent, charisma and artistry that our young musicians possess. At Slambarz we strongly advocate live performance to enhance the connection between

artists, audience and the community.

Tramlines is one of biggest music festivals in the UK, renowned for its colossal headline acts, diverse culture and exponent of grassroots musicians and we’re very happy to be involved.” And if that wasn’t enough, The Open Arms will also stage party-starting DJ sets when some of Sheffield’s favourite club brands takeover. Expect to flex the vocal cords and do some serious shape-throwing when The Sound - A Celebration of the 1975, ABBA Party,

and the Club Tropicana DJs take control of the sound desk. There ain’t no party like a Tramlines party!

Final tier tickets for Tramlines 2023 are selling fast. Saturday General Admission and Weekend Payment Plan tickets have completely sold out, with Weekend tickets not far behind. Saturday VIP tickets are down to the final few, and are expected to sell out in the next week. For those wanting to join Sheffield’s Biggest party, the advice is to move fast! A weekend ticket costs £140

(+ booking fee) while day tickets are available from £60+bf. www.tramlines. org.uk.

Over five stages of music, comedy and performance, a family friendly area packed with quirky things to do, the best festival food around, bespoke craft beer and ale, vintage clothes stores and roaming entertainment, there’s a lot to love about Tramlines. The 2022 festival was a sell-out so the advice is to buy asap before it’s too late!

Rotherham Council has been able to secure funding to deliver a range of safety improvements in the town centre.

Home Office funding is awarded to South Yorkshire Police that can be used to support projects and initiatives that help to reduce levels of violence and crime. The Council successfully applied for some of this funding.

A range of improvement projects have been delivered in the town centre, including:

• New lighting at Snail Hill

• A replacement fire door at Wellgate multi-storey car park

• Upgrades to the ‘Shop Link’ radios, which will help town centre businesses communicate with one another if an incident takes place

Work is also taking place to install new CCTV at High Street and at Snail Hill.

Councillor Saghir Alam, Cabinet Member for Corporate Services, Community Safety and Finance at Rotherham Council, said: “I am pleased that the Council has been able to secure funding to deliver a range of improvements including extra CCTV and new lighting. “We want the town centre to be a safe and welcoming place for all. The Council continues to work closely with partners including South Yorkshire Police and town centre businesses to ensure that everyone who is out in Rotherham town centre feels safe.”

Rotherham District Commander Chief Superintendent Laura Koscikiewicz, said: “We’re proud to be part of Rotherham and want our communities to feel safe and confident while out in the town.

“Our close working with Rotherham Council and the recent funding we have been able to provide is working towards improvements being made with CCTV and lighting.

“We listen to our communities, and I continue to remind you that we are here for you, we will, where we can act upon your concerns and make improvements. “If you have any concerns, please speak to your neighbourhood policing officers.”

NEW HEART ATTACK TREATMENT

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is to play a leading role in a major trial assessing the use of smart technologies to support the recovery of heart attack patients.

The Trust is one of three trusts nationally, alongside Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, to trial a new digital care platform which will enable cardiac rehabilitation services to be delivered to patients in their own homes through mobile apps, Fitbits and novel digital technologies.

More than 100,000 patients a year in the UK access cardiac rehabilitation services on the NHS following a heart attack, heart surgery or stent procedure. Cardiac rehabilitation services play a vital role in a heart attack patient’s overall recovery, and are delivered through a structured programme of exercise and supporting sessions. These sessions, which are recommended by NICE, are tailored to an individual patient’s needs and have been shown to reduce the risk of mortality, another heart event, hospital readmission following a heart attack, heart surgery or stent procedure. They also lower healthcare costs and improve the quality of cardiovascular disease patients’ lives.

The technology, known as the Digitally Enhanced Rehabilitation in Cardiac Patients (DERIC) care platform, uses a Fitbit smartwatch to help patients measure heart rate, rhythm and physical activity and plugs into a mobile app. Patients are also able to enter additional health data (such as blood pressure and weight) and answer questions about diet and other health information in a mobile app. This information can then be accessed remotely by doctors, nurses and other health professionals as part of the patient’s care plan.

Professor Rob Storey, Professor of Cardiology and Honorary Consultant Cardiologist in Sheffield, said: “Cardiac rehabilitation helps patients with cardiovascular disease in their recovery from a wide range of heart events, such as following a heart attack or heart surgery. We need to investigate new ways of providing cardiac rehab so that this can be embraced by a larger proportion of people with cardiovascular disease.

“The DERIC study will assess whether novel technologies provide a solution for delivering the same benefits as current cardiac rehab systems in a way that may be extended to a larger number of people who could benefit, particularly those who currently find it hard to attend cardiac rehab sessions. We will learn much more from this study about the potential of modern digital technologies for improving cardiovascular health and reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes.”

Professor Tim Chico, Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Professor of Cardiology at the University of Sheffield, who is also the Thematic Lead for Personal Monitoring Data at the British Heart Foundation (BHF) Data Science Centre, said: “There is huge potential from combining personal monitoring data with other types of health data in order to provide the greatest support for people to improve their cardiovascular health and sense of wellbeing. The DERIC study provides an exciting opportunity to demonstrate how personal monitoring may transform the way that we deliver health care.”

The trial is being supported by NHS Digital Health Partnership Awards Funding, which was given in recognition of the potential for high quality and effectiveness of the platform in remotely supporting patients living with cardiovascular disease or at risk of developing it.

Eric Eyre Funeral Service understands how difficult the process of planning a funeral for a loved one can be and offer a bespoke funeral service, whilst continuing to uphold traditional values.

Established since 1864, Eric took over the business in 1955 and has been looking after families in the local community and surrounding areas of Sheffield, Barnsley and Rotherham ever since, with branches at High Green and Sheffield Lane Top.

Available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and with decades of experience in guiding bereaved clients through this difficult time, Eric Eyre provide a professional yet personal service, caring for you and your loved ones while facilitating the necessary funeral arrangements and ensuring your wishes are carried out with care and compassion. Eric Eyre go the extra mile to provide an exceptional service and will take responsibility for ensuring everything is perfectly organised to deliver a fitting tribute to your loved one’s life story. “Just as other aspects of life have evolved, so has society’s approach to funerals, with modern funerals a very different affair to the traditional, formal black-tie events of years gone by,” says Wayne Pickering, manager at Eric Eyre Funeral Service. “For many, a funeral has moved from being a sombre affair to a celebration of life – complete with all that you’d expect from any other celebration, including music, entertainment and laughter. That is why we are always on hand to offer guidance on the many ways we can add a personal touch, just let us know what you would like and we will do our utmost to meet your requirements.” “

With over 20 years’ experience of the industry, and many years’ previous experience with John Fairest, Wayne was offered the opportunity to join Eric as

manager in 2017, “I joined John Fairest as a hearse driver in 1997 and was later promoted to funeral director. It was there that I learnt how to arrange and conduct funerals, as well as the correct way to handle and line coffins and how to prepare the deceased for the family to pay their respects. This gave me a full scope of all aspects of the job and after ten years of service I was offered the position of manager at a new branch on Abbey Lane, which I accepted.

In September 2017 I was offered the opportunity to join the team at Eric Eyre’s and to ‘move back home’, as I say, as I live local to both branches. It was, and still is, a fantastic opportunity for me to grow and develop an already friendly family run business and provide our local community with a warm and compassionate service.”

Completing the team at High Green is Sharon Clayton and Kay Cooper, while Beverley Travis and Ruth Fenlon look after the branch at Sheffield Lane Top, which opened four years ago.

“Our aim is to be there for our clients in every way that we can and make sure that their loved one is sent on their final journey exactly as they would have wanted. Your first point of contact will be the person you deal with throughout the process and whether the death has occurred at home, in a hospital or elsewhere, we will guide from the initial arrangement all the way through to directing the funeral. We even provide help following the service, should you need any further support or guidance.”

If you need help arranging a funeral for your loved one, contact Eric Eyre Funeral Service.

The WesTon Park CanCer ChariT y raCe evening reTurns!

Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity are once again turning Doncaster Racecourse purple when their Charity Race Evening, sponsored by Ant Marketing, returns this year on Friday 2nd June.

The Weston Park Cancer Charity Race Evening, which has in previous years raised tens of thousands towards cancer care, treatment and research, is back for another year of live horse racing, fantastic hospitality and entertainment.

They are delighted to share that the first five race evenings have raised almost £200,000. This has helped to provide cancer support services, enabled vital research and improve treatment experiences for people facing cancer.

In addition to raising tens of thousands of pounds for the Charity, many of the racegoers

help to spread vital awareness of the charity’s work by wearing purple for the day – with an award recognising the ‘best dressed’ guests at the event. Truly turning Doncaster Racecourse purple!

The evening of entertainment and fundraising wouldn’t be possible without this year’s dedicated main sponsor, Sheffield-based telemarketing company, Ant Marketing. Anthony Hinchliffe, CEO of Ant Marketing, holds the cause very close to his heart having been a patient at Weston Park in 2017. Fortunately, Anthony was given the all-clear and is now a generous supporter and patron of the charity. Anthony said: “Weston park saved my life. I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2017 and was treated at Weston Park Hospital. The treatment and support I received was just

incredible and to be able to give something back to the charity which will go on to provide support to others means so much to me. After my operation, which was a big one, I said to my consultant there ‘sir, you have saved my life’ and he said ‘no, Weston Park saved your life’. It was so powerful, and that’s the reason for my support. Weston Park is Sheffield at its best.” This year Anthony will be also be going one step further and donating 100 race day tickets to the staff at Weston Park hospital. Darren Hayes, Head of Fundraising at Weston Park, said: “It’s stories like Anthony’s that make us even more motivated to make the difference to the one in two people diagnosed with cancer. The funds we raise will allow us to continue to provide support and enhance treatment as well as funding research to improve future cancer treatments. Without Ant Marketing, and our fellow race sponsors, the Weston Park Cancer Charity Race evening would not be possible. We’re so excited to return to the racecourse again this year and can’t wait to see all the attendees in their purple attire.”

BUSINESSES URGED TO SIGN UP TO NEW HOSPITALITY WELLBEING AND DEVELOPMENT PROMISE

More than 30 leading businesses1, including Big Table Group, Greene King, Parkdean Resorts and Revolution Bars, have helped launch the new campaign by signing up and promising to provide a workplace that helps employees thrive through development and reward.

The new Hospitality Wellbeing and Development Promise, set up by the sector2, spearheaded by the Hospitality and Tourism Skills Board and supported by Government, is designed to ensure all team-members are given the opportunity to thrive, within a supportive and positive workplace.

All hospitality businesses are eligible to sign up by visiting www.wellbeingpromise.

co.uk and demonstrate their commitment to the training, development and wellbeing of their staff by joining the 32 businesses already on board. As well as a commitment by businesses, a wide range of guidance to help businesses deliver a better workplace environment is being made available.

The Promise is also supported by trade associations across the sector, including UKHospitality, British Beer and Pub Association and British Institute of Innkeeping.

Steve Richards, chair of the Hospitality and Tourism Skills Board, CEO of Parkdean Resorts and a signatory to the Promise, said: “Hospitality is a people business at its heart and

taking care of our staff must be everyone’s top priority.

“Growing our own talent is so important and ensuring we offer the right support for our staff is critical. Long gone are the days of just sticking someone on a training course to tick the development box.

“As employers, we have a duty of care to look out for our teams’ mental health and wellbeing and it’s our responsibility to take this seriously, in addition to the formal training we all offer.

“I would urge every hospitality business to sign up to the Promise and together we can show that hospitality is one of the most supportive, inclusive and rewarding places to work.”

THE EUROVISION PARTY IS cOMING TO SHEffIELD

Who said Liverpool is going to have all the fun? The official Eurovision party will be coming to Sheffield too!

On Saturday 13 May 2023, as the world finds out who will be crowned Eurovision winners 2023 (and who ends up getting “nul point”) Sheffield will be hosting a its own Eurovision party, teaming up with the Sheffield Ukrainian Community to bring on a show like the city has never seen before. Featuring a big screen on Devonshire Green, Sheffield’s free official Eurovision Party will be jam packed with all of the Euro music glitz and glam you have come to expect including street performers, dance acts, traditional Ukrainian musicians and Sheffield will be playing host to Marina Krutь – Marina came second in the competition to be this year’s Ukrainian entry with 33,000 votes and will be travelling over from Ukraine to join the party.

Some big surprises which will be announced in the coming weeks mean Sheffield’s Eurovision party is not to be missed.

Chief Executive for Sheffield City Council, Kate Josephs

said: “We are so excited to be hosting an official Eurovision party right here in the city centre alongside and in solidarity with the Ukrainian community of Sheffield.

“We were disappointed to miss out to Liverpool, but this means that we are still going to play a huge part in the celebrations and everyone can be a part of it.

“As an official partner of the BBC, the whole show will feature on our big screen on Devonshire Green and the team are working hard to make sure we have a jam-packed day of Eurovision fun.

“Sheffield’s Ukrainian community are central to our party and we are incredibly excited to host some of Ukraine’s biggest names in music. There will be tents where you can get involved in traditional Ukrainian crafts, dancers, and Ukrainian choirs giving us some spectacular performances.

“We are also excited to reveal some surprise guests in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out as we reveal more as we gear up for what will be an unforgettable party.”

EARLY SETBACK COSTS BLADES

The Blades run of four consecutive wins all in competitions came to a disappointing end at Turf Moor on Monday evening.

Following the firsthalf dismissal of Wes Foderingham, two goals after the break from substitute Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson saw the Clarets all but seal the title having won promotion at Middlesbrough on Good Friday.

United made two changes for the trip to Lancashire, with McBurnie and Norwood recalled at the expense of Sharp and McAtee, who dropped to the bench. Having won an early corner, Burnley only half

United Women were defeated in a friendly match against Jamaica at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium, but put in a good account of themselves against a nation who will be at this summer’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The Jamaica side included striker Khadija Shaw, plus several other established Women’s Super League players, while United were missing several key players and head coach Jonathan Morgan utilised his bench in full, making 10 changes through the

cleared the danger and Ahmedhodžić attempted an acrobatic effort that sailed well over, prior to Harwood-Bellis being cautioned for a nasty lunge on McBurnie. But on 17 minutes, the game seemingly swung in the Clarets favour as Foderingham was dismissed for a professional foul on Tella following a mix-up with the retreating Robinson. Referee Salisbury originally pointed to the spot, but following a discussion with his assistant, he correctly awarded a free-kick. Heckingbottom opted to withdraw Robinson, to allow Davies to deputise between the sticks. Cork’s effort was tame

game.

That included first senior appearances for development players

Darcie Sugden-Brook, Brogan Hughes and Fallon ConnollyJackson, while first team youngsters Maria FrancisJones and Ruby Clarke started the game.

Shaw broke through early on but rolled the ball wide of the post, and beyond United were relatively untroubled, that was until Fran Stenson made a great save to deny a powerful effort from Shaw five minutes before the break.

OWLS WORTHY OF THE WIN - MOORE

and easily saved by the substitute stopper, as Egan was then booked for a foul on Tella.

Brownhill saw an effort blocked by Bogle at the back post, before Davies was called into the action again before the interval, tipping over a dipping strike from Beyer. Predictably, the home side were immediately on the front foot upon the restart, with Benson firing into the side-netting. Bogle was booked for kicking the ball away, before Burnley took the lead moments after the hour with GUDMUNDSSON struck into the far corner after Tella kept the ball alive at the back post from a Harwood-Bellis cross.

The Blades had though managed to create openings themselves and almost took the lead in bizarre fashion when Rebecca Spencer misjudged a back pass, only for the ball to come back off the post.

Jamaica took the lead eight minutes after the break when Chantelle Swaby rose highest to head home a corner, giving United work to do.

Bethan Davies and Ellie Wilson had been introduced at the break as the latter made her return from injury, while

Chene Muir replaced Clarke who picked up a

But on 67 minutes, only a perfectly timed challenge from home goalkeeper Muric denied Ndiaye a goal, before GUDMUNDSSON added a second with 20 minutes remaining to make sure of the spoils for the hosts, this time capitalising on a from Davies, with Maatsen reaching a ball the United stopper seemingly expected to go out.

Ndiaye was booked before exiting the contest, as Sharp, Fleck and Osula all entered the fray. Before the end, Sharp was denied at the back post from a free-kick before Cullen headed behind as the skipper looked ready to pounce for a consolation.

knock before the break. Charley Docherty, Grace Riglar and Naomi Hartley also came on as Morgan used all 21 players through the match, and the Blades continued to hold their own until Shaw rounded Davies with seven minutes to go and squared the ball for Cheyna Matthews to tap home.

Sugden-Brook, Hughes and Connolly-Jackson all got the last 10 minutes and great experience against a senior national team, and United put in a solid performance overall in Leicester.

Promotion rivals Plymouth and Ipswich dropped points but Moore was unmoved in his post-match press conference, with his focus remaining squarely at Hillsborough. He said: “Obviously I was made aware of the results elsewhere but my focus has always been here and it will stay here. “For me it was all about winning our game today and we did that with a thorough and professional performance.

Resilience key to capping positive Easter weekendTaylor

Millers boss Matt Taylor was quick to herald the resolute nature of his side as they proved a tough nut to crack in the goalless draw with promotion-chasing Norwich City. Rotherham extended

Schofield understands drop in confidence among Rovers players

Danny Schofield admitted having sympathy with his players for showing a lack of confidence in sections of the Bank Holiday Monday defeat to Grimsby Town. Rovers deservedly led through Aidan Barlow’s superb strike but dropped evermore deep in the second half as they looked to hold onto the advantage. The visitors struck twice late in the game to take the victory. Schofield n how the game played out: “Particularly in the first half, I thought we were excellent. We

“We thought Accrington would play more of a lower block but they came for us and that made for an open game.

“We started the game really well, the first goal settled us down and after that we were in control and were worthy of the win.”

Moore issued updates on Reece James and Mallik Wilks, who each departed the action early. He said: “It’s a little early but we will assess them in the week. Reece took a knock, it was more of

the gap between themselves and the bottom three in the Sky Bet Championship to four points with the returning Josh Vickers in fine form between the sticks and those in front of him providing a impenetrable defensive shield which the hosts failed to breach despite a strong start at Carrow Road.

“We were dominant on Friday with no disrespect to the opposition but today, we had to withstand pressure and opportunities in and around our 18-yard box. Our ‘keeper made saves when called upon. We defended really well as a team.

deserved to be going in at half time level. In the second half there were a couple of things - I thought we sat too deep where we wanted to play higher and press more aggressively. But I understand with the run of form that we’re on for them to be like that.

“It’s a tough result to take, and the manner we conceded the two goals could have been avoided. Ben Nelson going off as well had an impact on the momentum of the game.

“If you look back at the goals conceded there’s lots of errors in there, mistakes and poor positional play. I think that’s what is costing us.”

On letting the lead slip: “It always damages confidence when results aren’t positive. It affects individual players and it affects the collective. We have to be strong enough in those moments to come through it together. Football is very

an impact thing, and with Mallik it could be fatigue after the Easter games

were so close together but we will know more about both of them this week.”

“It was hard to get to grips with their mobile players and Josh (Vickers) has made saves. If he was beaten, we had players on the line. I was more comfortable with us defending set-pieces than in open play, in some ways. In open play, they have some serious players, who could hurt us.

“We ask our players to defend, by hook and by crook and they did. Wes (Harding) is in a good place and his defensive display was excellent today. He is fit and strong. He was ready but the whole team put in a shift from Jordan (Hugill) upfront and demanding, particularly in the run of form we’re in, which is poor - there’s no getting away from that. We have to stick together and keep moving forward.”

On fan frustration: “Football is about winning matches. We’re not doing that at the moment. The run of form has been poor. I can understand the fans’ frustrations. We can only control what we can control and that’s preparing for the next game and moving forward.”

On the focus for the remaining games:

“It’s always about focusing on the next game. We need to keep fighting for as many points as we can, the players wearing the shirt with pride and giving everything they can until the last game of the season.

“There’s discussions regarding what next season will look like in

Chieo (Ogbene), who was a right-back at times. It’s needs must in games like that, but it’s certainly worth it.

“As always, I always want more from an attacking aspect, but we have a good platform to work from. Tariqe (Fosu) had a chance. We always ask our players to hit it hard and low but it’s just bounced up in front of him and that was one of the clear cut opportunities we had in the game. In all honesty, we did not create much after that. We wanted to attack but we were up against a good team today.”

terms of recruitment and structure and these kind of things.

“It’s about instilling belief all the time. We can’t get away from the situation we’re in at the moment. There’s only way to face it and it’s front-on - accepting the criticism that naturally comes with it, accept it’s going to be a real challenge, to continue fighting, to continue working hard every session and every interaction with the players to make sure we transmit a positivity.”

On Terry Bramall’s pledge of substantial additional funds for the playing budget:

“It’s fantastic for the club to have Terry issue his statement on how he is going to support the club in a financial sense and also with himself. That can only be a positive moving forward for Doncaster Rovers.”
