ILL-FATED CONTAINERS AVAILABLE

Applications are now open to secure a container for community uses across Sheffield.

Earlier this year the Strategy & Resources Committee opted to place the eight steel

containers, which were previously based at the top of Fargate, in storage before they are distributed across the city for community uses.

The expression of interest process is now open for

submissions. As part of the application process, interested groups are asked to highlight how their proposal will meet the Council’s objectives, such as fair, inclusive and empowered communities, tackling inequalities and supporting people through the cost-of-living crisis and healthy lives and wellbeing for all. Anyone interested in applying to use a container in their community must submit

their application by Sunday 10th September 2023. Once all the submissions are in, a steering group will consider all the applications and provide recommendations for approval to the Strategy and Resources Committee later this year. After this, successful organisations will meet with the Council to finalise the details of their projects and progress with contractual agreements.

Cllr Tom Hunt, Leader of Sheffield City Council and Chair of the Strategy and Resources Committee, said:

“We’re committed to ensuring the containers find new homes in communities across Sheffield. If your organisation is interested in using a container then please get in touch. I’m looking forward to hearing about the proposals and to seeing the containers repurposed in new locations across the city”.

LEADMILL LAUNCH “THE BATTLE for THE SoUL of SHEffIELD”

The Leadmill has launched their new ‘Battle For The Soul Of Sheffield’ campaign in a bid to rally support as the venue fights for survival.

Last year, the venue’s future came under threat after the owners of the building issued them an eviction notice, sparking an outcry across the music industry and from gig-goers.

The premises is owned by Electric Group — who also own London’s Electric Brixton, Bristol’s SWX and Newcastle’s NX. They bought the site’s freehold in 2017 and previously told music fans that they had no intention of closing the venue when they end the current occupiers’ lease in 2023. “The management may change but the song stays the same,” Dominic Madden, CEO and cofounder of Electric Group, wrote on Twitter.

The management, however, then hit back, arguing that they were being “exterminated by the landlord” before launching a fresh appeal to fans, asking for support after revealing that landlords were reportedly moving forward with eviction plans . Madden then responded

again, doubling down on claims that they “intend to continue operating the space as a music venue, focussing on a diverse mix of gigs, club nights and comedy events.” Now, taking to social media and their website,

The Leadmill has launched the ‘Battle For The Soul Of Sheffield’, calling on Sheffield residents and music fans from further afield to sign up to the latest campaign to fight eviction.

In a statement on their website last week the Leadmill published an update on their fight and the new campaign:

“Today we launch a major campaign to block the hostile takeover of our city’s cultural heritage and history – The Battle for the Soul of Sheffield.

This isn’t just about us here at The Leadmill – everything that’s made our city what it is today is at stake. It may start with us, but it goes much further than that. If we don’t stop this hostile takeover, the very soul and character of our great city is at risk.”

“The Landlord is exploiting a loophole in the law, forcing us out of business in order to financially profit from the goodwill we have built up

over 40 years. The Landlord has now approached the Council and applied for a premises license, which they need to be able to force us out of business. We need to ensure that this doesn’t kickstart a race to the bottom of a corporate barrel, putting at risk over 43 years of cultural heritage, history and community work from across our city, its people and businesses.”

“The battle we are facing is whether, in the years ahead, we have more or less independence; whether London property developers can close local businesses for profit; whether some of the greatest artists of all time can still be discovered and find a platform; whether cinema fans can come together for a showing of their favourite film; whether comedians can keep our city laughing; whether our nightlife can remain fun, safe and secure; whether all the culture, arts, music and heritage that our city has developed over its life can continue to thrive.”

“This landlord is exploiting a legal loophole to evict and destroy a highly regarded, independent, Sheffield success story, forcing us to cease trading, all for profit.

But it’s even worse than that. The venues run by this landlord have a disturbing history of violent crime, public disorder, sexual assault, overcrowding, understaffing and overlooking racist, sexist, and physical abuse. The decision on whether to award the new landlord with the ability to take over The Leadmill will be decided on

the 18th of September, and the campaign is encouraging local people to attend and make their opposition heard.”

“It couldn’t be clearer. This is not just about The Leadmill. This is a fundamental Battle for the Soul of Sheffield.”

“That’s why we’re asking you to help us win this battle. We need you to sign up and back our campaign – join us now

at www.savetheleadmill.com and share our social media posts below to help get the word out.”

You can join the Leadmill’s campaign and help spread the word by sharing the video on their socials and including the hashtag #wecantloseleadmill

criminal justice charity headquartered in Sheffield. The Fundraising Gala Evening takes place at Sheffield’s Millennium Gallery on Thursday 21st September 2023.

Bridgerton star Ruby Barker – who plays Marina Thompson in the hit Netflix series – will be delivering the welcome address at the event. Actor Jacob Dudman – whose starring roles include Thomas Price in The Stranger and Osbert in The Last Kingdom –will be the after-dinner speaker. Additionally, Happy Mondays singer and former The X Factor contestant Rowetta will be performing live. The event aims to both

fundraise and raise awareness of modern slavery and cycles of exploitation and crime. As well as speeches by Ruby and Jacob and the live performance from Rowetta – the evening features a drinks reception, three course dinner and special panel discussion featuring experts in the fields of exploitation.

Ruby Barker said: “It is so important that all of us support and elevate voices of marginalised and vulnerable people. Causeway are a charity at the forefront of doing this, and so I’m honoured to be attending their gala event and delivering the welcome address. It will

be a fantastic and fun-filled evening. However, it will also be an important opportunity for people to come and support Causeway as they work towards a world without exploitation.”

Jacob Dudman said: “I am in awe of the work that Causeway do, and so to be the after-dinner speaker at their special gala event fills me with absolute pride. We all want a world without modern slavery, exploitation and crime. I am looking forward to meeting supporters old and new at the gala, as we come together to make a safer, securer and fairer world for all.”

Rowetta said: “Causeway are such an important charity, supporting those that have been through some of the most appalling and heartbreaking situations. However, like

all charities, they need our support. I am delighted that Causeway asked me to perform at this year’s gala event, and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone there.”

Ed Newton, Causeway’s CEO, said: “We are very excited to have Ruby, Jacob and Rowetta headlining this very special event. It will be a great evening and isn’t just for existing supporters. We’d love everybody who is passionate about ending modern slavery, exploitation and crime to buy a ticket and come along.”

sOUTH YORksHIRE GaINs NEw sTaTUs

South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) has welcomed the creation of the South Yorkshire Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP), a collaboration between SYMCA, Sheffield City Council, Doncaster City Council, Rotherham MBC and Barnsley MBC to work together on shared priorities and targets to grow the local visitor economy.

Developed and administered by Visit England, the LVEP programme is one of the key recommendations in the Government’s response to the independent de Bois Review of Destination Management Organisations in England. The LVEP programme, which will be led by Sheffield City Council, will create a national portfolio of strategic and highperforming partnerships working in collaboration locally, regionally and nationally on shared priorities and targets to support and grow the visitor economy. South Yorkshire’s Mayor, Oliver Coppard, said: “Here in South Yorkshire we couldn’t be more proud of our world class music, landscapes, festivals and sport. We’re the birthplace of football and the home of snooker, we powered the Industrial Revolution and have England’s oldest national park. We celebrate art, music and literature like nowhere else. And now we have a new opportunity to share our beauty, our history, our culture, and our talent with the rest of our world.

Our new Local Visitor Economy Partnership, being developed with the support of Visit England, will give visitors from far and wide the chance to explore and experience South Yorkshire in all its

CALL

glory. I’m excited to see that partnership develop across all of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.”

Councillor Martin Smith, Chair of Sheffield City Council’s Economic Development and Skills Committee, said: “It is brilliant that Visit England has recognised South Yorkshire as a thriving destination for city breaks and day trips and has agreed a Local Visitor Economy Partnership for the region. This will unlock more opportunities for local businesses, support the creation of jobs in the visitor economy and put South Yorkshire on the map as a tourist destination. Sheffield is proud to lead this work, which will help our region attract visitors from across the world. We’re The Outdoor City and we’re already home to worldclass sporting events, stunning natural beauty in the UK’s oldest national park and some incredible cultural festivals. This partnership will help us build on these strengths, as well as those of our neighbours in Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham to make South Yorkshire a world-famous destination to eat, drink, shop, learn, adventure and play.”

Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster added: “I am pleased that South Yorkshire’s Local Visitor Economy Partnership application has been approved. This will help to realise our regional ambition, and ensure Doncaster will be in a position to benefit from national support to enhance the visitor economy and cultural offering. We have a large number of incredible tourist attractions in Doncaster, including our Mansion House, Conisbrough Castle, Cusworth Hall, and the

Yorkshire Wildlife Park which is the UK’s No.1 walk-through wildlife adventure! Tourism and the wider visitor economy supports local businesses and employs a significant number of people across Doncaster and South Yorkshire.”

Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion, Councillor David Sheppard commented:

“The LVEP accreditation will considerably strengthen opportunities to collaborate more effectively with neighbouring boroughs and the MCA and to partner with the private sector to ensure we continue to promote the many reasons to work, live, visit and invest in Rotherham and South Yorkshire as a whole.

Wentworth Woodhouse, Magna Science Adventure Centre, Gulliver’s Valley and Rother Valley and Thrybergh Country

Parks are big drivers of Rotherham’s visitor economy and the accreditation will help celebrate and promote these attractions and the green spaces that are unique to Rotherham’s heritage.”

SYMCA continues to work in partnership with local and combined authorities across Yorkshire on the Yorkshire Tourism Initiative focused on promoting Yorkshire as a visitor destination. This project is being delivered by Barnsley MBC.

Councillor Sir Steve Houghton CBE, Leader of Barnsley Council, said: “It’s fantastic that Visit England has agreed to the Local Visitor Economy Partnership with South Yorkshire. Culture and heritage are in our roots and places like Elsecar Heritage, Cannon Hall, Cooper Gallery and Worsborough Mill attract people from all over the country. With our varied independents, great places for food and drink, and places to stay, this is the place to make memories. We look forward to working with our South Yorkshire colleagues to put our area firmly on the map.”

vOlUNTEER IN THE HOlIdaYs

As schools break up across Yorkshire for the summer, many young people will be looking at ways to fill their time. With results from the govt commissioned Community Life Survey indicating that 29% of 16 to 24 year olds took part in formal volunteering, and 25% in informal volunteering, activities between 2021 and 2022, a high number of young people may choose to spend summer making a positive difference to their local areas. There are a multitude of benefits that this type of involvement can offer, such as developing valuable life skills, providing first-hand experiences that can help shape future career aspirations, encouraging a sense of social consciousness, and seeing what a positive difference actions can make to the lives of others.

Ansvar, the expert insurer for the charity, faith, and not-for-profit sectors, recognises the transformative power that volunteering can have on young individuals, and is urging charities and organisations across the county to actively encourage young people to give their time.

Martyn Fletcher at Ansvar, said: “Volunteering during the summer break can be incredibly rewarding for young people, fostering empathy, social skills, and a sense of responsibility. It also allows individuals to make a meaningful impact on their communities and gain a deeper understanding of social issues. By offering young volunteers the chance to actively contribute to their communities, charities and organisations can enrich the lives of young volunteers and help to nurture a generation of compassionate and engaged citizens. Young volunteers have a unique perspective and energy that can bring immense value to charitable organisations. “

THE cost of living crisis sent the cost for materials to carry out big home improvements soaring. It means for many, jobs like loft conversions and extensions are now out of reach. Prices change all the time, but Office for National Statistics figures show they are on average 26% higher now than a year ago. In that period, the cost of steel bars, for example, has risen by about 58%. But, you don’t need to extend your loft or replace your kitchen to transform your home. You can focus on smaller jobs such as replacing doors, handles and taps, and painting cabinets and wooden tables for a new look. Klara Painter, from House Buy Fast, says: “Keeping your home in a good state can seem like a daunting task at times. But breaking tasks into little and often works best, and means you can get more done instead of putting off jobs around the house for months. You will be surprised how much you can achieve in just 10 minutes.”

Here Klara provides details of five simple DIY jobs which anyone can do to save money.

1. Draughtproof: Savings: 5-10% of your energy bill

To improve insulation in your home fit weatherstrips in the window and door frames. Measure the length required, cut the strips, and attach them to the frames. Weatherstrips are remarkably cheap for how effective they are. No draughts means lower energy bills.

2. Replace Bulbs: Saving can up to 75% vs old bulbs

Have you got any old-style bulbs that you’ve been meaning to replace? Do it now! Modern LED bulbs use very little energy in comparison to traditional bulbs. They also light up faster and can be brighter. They also last 50 times longer!

3. Clean washing machine filter: Savings: Average washing machine repair is £150 If you want clean and fresh clothes you must clean the filter. You will find it behind a small door in the front panel of the washer. Place old towels under the machine to catch the water that may come out. Unlock the filter, clean it, and put it back together. Run a hot wash cycle to finish. By doing this simple task, you can avoid costly service fees and extend the life of your machine. You may even find that missing sock!

4. Clean walls with a melamine sponge

Estimate Savings: £12/ sqm

Those pesky scuffs and marks can be gone within seconds if you’re using the right tool. Magic eraser is slightly abrasive and it lifts away all the dirt from the walls so you do not need to paint them - a massive saving on paint.

5. Install tap aerators!

Estimate savings: over 1000 litres a month These affordable tap attachments, priced as low as £3, offer significant water-saving benefits. Installing tap aerators lets you quickly and easily reduce water consumption while maintaining strong water pressure. Make a checklist, invest a few minutes to look after your home and you will save time and money in the long run!

MaYOR slaMs GOvERNMENT fOllOwING THE laTEsT ROUNd Of bUs CUTs

South Yorkshire’s Mayor Oliver Coppard has today called the Government’s funding for South Yorkshire’s buses “completely unacceptable” as they impose further cuts to public transport in the region.

At thise week’s Mayoral Combined Authority Board meeting (Mon 31st July), the Mayor and local Leaders confirmed a series of measures to protect as many routes and services as possible across the region.

South Yorkshire’s Mayor Oliver Coppard said:

“The government’s promises to level-up by giving us a ‘London style transport system’ are in tatters. In the most recent round of funding, we got just 15% of the money going to other areas. I simply won’t accept that the people of South Yorkshire get just a fraction of the funding received by other communities here in the north, they are our friends and neighbours who I work for and represent.

Make no mistake, the bus network in our region is broken. We’ve been failed by the privatisation of our buses and a series of governments who haven’t fixed the problem. And now we’re facing further cuts to routes, changes to services, and even

having to stop some vital cheaper fares because the government have again cut the money for South Yorkshire’s buses.

Every day, people across Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield are having to deal with a bad bus network that is getting worse. We used to have a world-class public transport system here in South Yorkshire, but now we can’t rely on our buses, even to do the bare minimum: to get to work, to hospital or college, or to see friends and family. Locally, we’re doing everything we can to protect the network and fight these cuts. Every year we spend around £70 million pounds on our public transport system. We’re now using every available penny of our financial reserves to save as many routes as possible. But cuts to the funding we get from the government now mean our buses are going to get even worse.

I’ve today written to the government demanding that they get around the table and look again at funding for South Yorkshire. We deserve and need a fair deal. At the very least we deserve the same support as other places in the north.”

SOUNDBITE - A Celebration of Sheffield's Food and Music

A collection of the city’s most successful event organisers has announced its full steam ahead for a brand-new, family-friendly street food market and live music event on the under-utilised space outside Sheffield Train Station.

The first SoundBite will take place across the weekend from the 5th and 6th of August, showcasing six Sheffield-based street food vendors, a stage with live music from up-and-coming Sheffield artists, as well as a fully-licensed bar, coffee from Motore Café, and family-friendly activities. The event is free to attend and runs from 12 – 10 pm on both Saturday and Sunday and, given that the event takes place on the concourse of the station,

The team behind Skyline, a multivenue dance music festival, Ciaron Elm who organises the popular Woodseats Live music festival, and Chris Hanson, a chef and founder of Blend Kitchen will all lend their

expertise to the new event.

Skyline and SoundBite organiser, Phil McCue, said: “This has been one we’ve been planning for a while and we’re unbelievably excited to get it announced!

“SoundBite will showcase the best of Sheffield, with incredible independent food vendors and local musicians taking over the train station concourse to offer something completely new.”

Fellow Skyline and SoundBite organiser, Simon Tomlinson, added: “We’ve brought on board Ciaron Elm, the mind behind Woodseats Live and Heeley & Meersbrook Live to curate a lineup of the finest Steel City talent to keep people entertained over two days of phenomenal local food and drink!”

Rounding out the team is Chris Hanson, who will draw on his decades of experience in the food industry, most recently running the Exposed Award-winning café and

restaurant Blend Kitchen, to help represent the breadth of diversity in the Steel City’s food scene. Long-term, if the inaugural event proves a success, the ambition is to run the event as a monthly staple

on the Sheffield events calendar. In doing so, and perhaps more importantly, they plan to give back to Sheffield communities through the event and are looking to link up with organisations across the

city. Skyline’s Simon Tomlinson explained: “One of the key things for SoundBite is looking at how we can give back to Sheffield and offer opportunities to underrepresented communities.”

CROOKES GETS ROCKED

SHEFF LEPPARD

CROOKES SOCIAL CLUB

Viewing the real deal is always paramount in my book, but occasionally dipping one’s toe in the ‘tribute‘ world can be interesting.

Paying homage to the obvious, this likeable gang kicked off their two set show with Let It Go, Animal and Heaven Is which received strong applause from the busy venue.

Featuring original Def Leppard drummer Tony Kenning adds credibility and even though they may not look like the Sheffield superstars, they’ve all got decades of experience which shows in their

playing, knocking out 22 Leppard classics.

It has to be said singer Paul Banks does have some nice Joe Elliott moves and in parts his voice does sound quite similar, with Andy Scott on bass, Harris Nixon and Andy Frost on guitar adding backing vocals when required along with strong sound and lights, the overall effect is a good one. Opening up part two with start song from Diamond Star Halos, Take What You Want, we now had crowd participation and more of the familiar tunes that we all know. That said, for the die-hard fans a few more album tracks would have worked. This may happen in the future as even though everyone

has done much stuff over the years including albums, supporting Saxon for one, as Sheff Leppard they’ve only been a gigging unit for a couple of years, though in that time they’ve appeared on a compilation album for an American record label.

With Rocks Off, Mirror Mirror, Let’s Get Rocked, which by now included a full dance floor, it was all heading for encore time as Rock Of Ages closed the show. Most of us have experienced tribute bands over time and if these chaps have escaped your radar, a viewing is recommended. Not only are they excellent musicians, they’re all very nice guys to boot.

Two late goals helped United record a deserved success over Paul Warne’s Derby County at Pride Park last Saturday afternoon.

Anis Slimane fired the Blades into a first-half lead, only for Korey Smith to restore parity on the hour, but George Baldock resorted the advantage before Iliman Ndiaye added to his goal against Chesterfield to make sure of the moral boosting success. United headed to the East Midlands with an 18-man, as boss Paul Heckingbottom looked to up the minutes of

those involved against the League One title favourites, with Egan captaining the side.

On a bright and sunny late July afternoon, the Blades started positively, although it was the Rams who won the first corner of the game. The visitors then created the first real chance with Osborn and Ahmedhodžić combined before the latter teed up SLIMANE, but on this occasion he fired over.

Not to be denied though, the Tunisian international fired home his first goal for United two minutes later, rifling an unstoppable

effort past Wildsmith after Bradley had done well to deny Ndiaye, who had rounded the goalkeeper after a short back pass by Nelson. County responded well though with the lively Mendez-Laing forcing Foderingham into a routine save, before the United number one had to be on his guard to tip over a cross from Cashin that was destined to landed in the roof of the net. Before the interval, United came close to a second after Osula linked up well with Ndiaye before striking the top of the crossbar. Both sides won

consecutive corners in the opening exchanges of the second period, with Osula seeing a shot deflected over the top by Bradley with Ndiaye again involved in creating the opportunity, but moments before the hour mark, Derby levelled as SMITH cushioned home from close-range after Mendez-Laing was afforded too much space to pick him out with a cross.

Following the concession of the equaliser, Osula was denied again before Wildsmith saved from

POL VALENTíN COMPLETES OWLS SWITCH

The Owls have signed Spanish defender Pol Valentín from Sporting Gijón on a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old becomes our fourth new recruit of the summer, following Reece James, Juan Delgado and Ashley Fletcher through the Hillsborough doors.

Valentín, born in Catalonia, is a dynamic right-back with over 150

senior appearances to his name in Spanish football.

He was first on the radar of new Owls boss Xisco as a youth player at Gimnàstic de Tarragona when the two were on the books of ‘Nastic’. Valentín has since gone on to represent Pobla Mafumet, Valencia B, Fuenlabrada and most recently Sporting Gijon in his homeland.

Xisco told swfc.co.uk:

“Pol is a very good

talent, he’s a young guy, he’s one of the important players we now have in our squad.

“He has very good intensity. I know a lot about Pol, not only his capacity as a footballer but a personality as well and this is very good.

“This is important because I know exactly what he can give to

the team. He was with me when he was very young with Gimnàstic and I know how he has progressed. I have followed his career and how he has been working in Spain. “He is a good, young player who can do very good things for Sheffield Wednesday.”

Ahmedhodžić from Berge’s through ball. Ndiaye and the Bosnian defender then created another opening in the box, but Egan was challenge as Lowe then saw his shot blocked.

At the other end, former Blades striker Washington, who had entered the field as substitute saw a strike saved at the near post by Foderingham. But two goals in as

many minutes late on saw United run out worthy winners.

BALDOCK put United back in front, firing home after Lowe’s cross wasn’t cleared properly, then, less

than 60 seconds later, Basham intercepted high up the pitch and free NDIAYE who lashed home a powerful strike via the underside of the crossbar to seal a 2nd victory of pre-season.

OWLS SIGN INTERNATIONAL DEFENDER

The Owls have signed international defender Di’Shon Bernard on a permanent transfer.

The 22-year-old came through the academy ranks at Chelsea before joining fellow Premier League giants Manchester United at 16-years-old, making his debut for the Red Devils in the Europa League group stages against Kazakhstan side Astana.

Bernard spent six years at Old Trafford, taking

in successful loan spells in all three EFL divisions with Salford City, Hull City and Portsmouth.

The Wandsworth product is a cultured, ball-playing central defender, with the Owls beating off stiff competition for his signature.

Bernard has already graduated to the international stage, earning four caps for Jamaica having made his debut against Qatar in

The 26-year-old began his career with Millwall after graduating from the Lions’ Academy, making 151 appearances from 2014 to 2019, in which he found the net 12 times and set up a further 15.

Raised in London, the exciting winger furthered his footballing development with two loan spells at Wycombe Wanderers, first in Sky Bet League Two as a teenager and then in the third tier during the 2018/19 campaign.

MCCANN WANTS REPEAT OF SUBS’ IMPACT AGAINST PORT VALE

Grant McCann insists the whole squad must play their part if Rovers are to achieve their goals this season.

McCann praised the impact of the substitutes in Saturday’s final friendly of the summer

The Chairboys moved swiftly to secure his services, snapping him against Port Vale on Saturday.

Within seconds of entering play as a triple substitution, George Miller, Deji Sotona and goalscorer George Broadbent combined to net the only goal of the game.

And the Rovers manager says they provided the perfect example of what he will need substitutes to do this season.

“We’re going to need that this season,” McCann said. “It’s a squad game. Whoever starts next week against Harrogate, it’s not going to just be about them.

“It’s going to be about

on a permanent transfer in the summer of 2019, where he would go on to help the club achieve promotion to the Sky Bet Championship for the first time in their history. He continued to excel in Wycombe colours and finished the following second tier campaign with five goals and four assists to his name, which caught the eye of Luton Town, who secured his signature ahead of the 2021/22 for an undisclosed fee. He made an immediate impact at Kenilworth Road, scoring once and providing a further two those coming off the bench to hopefully impact the game for us and win us the game.

“I’ve spoken about that before in pre-season friendlies, about the second half teams and what they are going to do to impact things. I think you saw in this one, a massive impact from the subs and that’s going to be really vital for us this season.”

Saturday’s 1-0 triumph brought to an end the official pre-season friendly programme, with only a behindclosed-doors game against opposition from Huddersfield Town to

assists to land the Man of the Match award in a dominant 3-0 opening day success over Peterborough United, ending the campaign with eight goal involvements to his name.

Injury limited the winger – who can also operate as a wing-back to just 21 appearances last term, but he played his part in helping the Hatters win promotion to the Premier League. Onyedinma arrives as Matt Taylor’s fifth summer signing and will wear the number 14 shirt whilst at the Millers. come on Tuesday.

And McCann feels overall that the games to date have been collectively successful. He said: “I think it’s been good. It’s been successful. We’ve managed to get good minutes into players’ legs. We can top up the ones that need it when we play Huddersfield.

“You’ll see a lot of the subs from Saturday will get some minutes on Tuesday. Hopefully Kyle Hurst, Jon Taylor and Jamie Sterry will play some part too. There’s going to be minutes into legs which will put us in good stead for Saturday.”
