“Together we get things done” Sheffield City Council has set out its priorities for the next four years in its new draft Council Plan which outlines how the Council will deliver for citizens.

The draft Council Plan will be discussed at the Strategy and Resources Committee on Wednesday, 13th December. The four-year Plan is linked

to the Council’s four-year Medium-Term Financial Strategy (MTFS) so that the Council has a clear view on what it is going to do in the coming years aligned to the resources available to deliver. It will allow citizens, city partners and investors to know where the Council is headed, what it stands for and give even more opportunity to hold the organisation to account. The Council Plan sets a new mission for the organisation ‘Together we get things done’ -

emphasising that the Council is committed to working together as a whole organisation, with all the city’s organisations and every community to deliver for the people of Sheffield.

Fundamentally, the Council Plan is broken down into five outcomes Sheffield City Council plans to achieve for the city: • A place where all children belong and all young people can build a successful future. • Great neighbourhoods

that people are happy to call home. • People live in caring, engaged communities that value diversity and support wellbeing. • A creative and prosperous city full of culture, learning and innovation. • A city on the move – growing, connected and sustainable. The draft Council Plan is part of Sheffield City Council’s commitment and contribution to Sheffield achieving its new City Goals. At the heart of everything in the draft

Plan is a determination to challenge ourselves as an organisation to make a positive contribution to Sheffield’s people, the city’s prosperity and the planet we share. Every organisation involved in producing these is working together to make the Goals a reality – they are not about one person or one organisation, but a collective effort with everyone playing a role to make an effective and impactful change to Sheffield. The full version of the draft Council Plan is available to read and will be part of the 2024/25 Budget Conversation which will launch on 21st

December 2023. Cllr Tom Hunt, Leader of Sheffield City Council, said: “The people of Sheffield are ambitious for themselves and their families and they want our city to thrive. We share those ambitions. The Council Plan provides us with a strong strategy for our organisation. It sets out the outcomes we aim to achieve and how we will deliver them. “It outlines a better, bolder vision for our city - creating great neighbourhoods, stronger economic growth, generating more jobs and investing in sustainable transport. Sheffield is a city on the up. By working

with the people of Sheffield, with public and voluntary and community organisations, with business and with regional and central Government we can achieve great things. The Council Plan sets out how our work will be shaped by three things: people, planet and prosperity. When we are making decisions, everything we do should involve the people of Sheffield and help them to achieve their potential, help to protect our planet for future generations, and make Sheffield a more prosperous city.”

Veezu teams up with Cash for Kids to bring Christmas cheer to disadvantaged children Veezu, formerly known as City Taxis, is partnering with Hallam FM’s Cash for Kids for the second consecutive year, in support of the charity’s annual Christmas appeal, Mission Christmas. Branded the biggest Christmas gift appeal in the UK, Mission Christmas facilitates the collection and distribution of gifts, ensuring disadvantaged children have something to open on Christmas morning. Last year, Mission Christmas raised over £14 million in gifts and donations, meaning 286,000 children woke up to a Christmas present. The Veezu office in Chesterfield is a drop-off point for donations and the team will also be volunteering as elves to sort toys and gifts in the Mission Christmas warehouse later this month. Sacha Skinner, Regional Marketing Manager at Veezu, said: “We are extremely proud to support such a fantastic campaign, particularly with the costof-living crisis continuing to affect many families and their ability to enjoy a stress-free, joy-filled Christmas. “The Mission Christmas campaign is not just about giving gifts – it’s about supporting our communities and spreading joy to those who need it the most this festive season. The Cash for Kids team do a fantastic job of making Christmas day a magical time for children across the country, year on year, so let’s come together and make this happen for 2023!” Lee Fletcher, Cash for Kids Charity Fundraising Executive said: “Our mission is to improve the lives of thousands of local disadvantaged children and young people each year who are affected by poverty, abuse, neglect, illness or have additional needs. “Our Mission Christmas toy appeal is underway, and this year is going to be a real struggle for a lot of families. We want to help as many disadvantaged

children as possible wake up to a gift on Christmas Day. We could not do the work we do without the kindness and generosity of local businesses and the public. Thank you so much to the team at Veezu for supporting our wonderful toy appeal again this year, with their support we really can help make great things happen and help ensure no child goes without a gift this Christmas.” The Sheffield Steelers are also supporting Mission Christmas with their 2023 Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday 16 December at Utilita Arena. The much-loved annual tradition will see fans throwing thousands of teddy bears and soft toys onto the ice rink to be donated to Mission Christmas. As an official partner of the campaign and Sheffield Steelers Ride Partner, Veezu will be collecting the donated teddies and transporting them to Mission Christmas HQ in their electric cars, ready to be distributed to children who need them most. For more information about the Teddy Toss and how you can get involved, visit - https://www. sheffieldsteelers.co.uk/teddy-bear-toss-confirmedfor-the-16th-december/ To read more about the Mission Christmas campaign, how to donate, and locate your nearest drop-off point, please visit their website by the following link: https://cashforkids.org.uk/mission Gifts can be dropped off at any of the following local venues, until the 18 of December: Sheffield: Sheffield Wednesday Football Club – Club Shop (Penistone Road) Sheffield United Football Club - Ticket Office (Bramall Lane) Beres (Pinstone Street) Beres (Chapeltown) Rose and Crown – Minnie’s (Stannington) Kafe Kelham – SteelYard Kelham (Kelham Island) Chesterfield: Veezu Office – Holywell Street

GIRLS ALOUD BRING THE SOUND OF THE UNDERGROUND TO THE ARENA This month marks 21 years since Cheryl, Kimberley, Nadine, Nicola and Sarah were voted the winners of Popstars: The Rivals and formed the all-conquering legendary pop band Girls Aloud. To celebrate this milestone with all their fans, Girls Aloud will be coming together for a huge UK Arena tour that will be stopping off in Sheffield at the Utilita Arena on Tuesday 28 May 2024. The hugely anticipated shows will feature all of the band’s historic pop hits including No.1 songs ‘Sound Of The Underground’, ‘The

Promise’ and ‘I’ll Stand By You’, alongside cast-iron classics such as ‘Love Machine’, ‘Call The Shots’, ‘Biology’, ‘Something New’ and ‘The Show’. Cheryl says: “We all started talking about the possibility of doing something to celebrate Girls Aloud’s 20-year anniversary a few years ago. The anniversary seemed like an obvious thing that we would celebrate. But when Sarah fell ill all priorities changed. She passed away a year before the anniversary and it just didn’t feel right, it felt too soon. But now, I

think there is an energy that does makes it feel right. It’s the right time to celebrate Sarah, it’s the right time to celebrate the band and the right time to celebrate the fact we can still do this 21 years later. That’s a big honour in lots of ways.” Nadine: “Girls Aloud are a band that made such a huge impact on people’s lives. We grew up with the band, but so did so many other people. So for us not to do something again feels like such a shame and a waste. We want to have that moment with fans where we can all enjoy it together.”

Kimberley: “Over the last year, we’ve felt this outpouring of love – obviously towards Sarah, but actually towards all of us as a group. And I guess it’s ignited something in all of us again. It feels like something has changed and it does feel like the right time to celebrate Sarah and the 20-year anniversary that we didn’t celebrate at the time.” Nicola: “I think what’s really encouraging is that whenever people ask us about reuniting it’s not, “Would you guys ever do it?” but “When are you guys gonna do it?” To know we still have

that love from our fans and people who watched us grow up gives us the confidence to do the tour. It will be massive celebration of everything we’ve done up to this point. We want people to leave being like, “Wow,

I’ve just had one of the best nights of my life.”

Girls Aloud comes to Utilita Arena Sheffield on Tuesday 28th May 2024 tickets are on general sale now from www. utilitaarenasheffield. co.uk.

My online dating bio says that I have a corner office with views of the entire city, drive a £500,000 vehicle, and that I’m paid to travel. My dates are always upset when I tell them I’m a bus driver. After all these years, my wife still thinks I’m sexy. Every time I walk by she says: “What an ass!” My wallet is like an onion. When I open it, it makes me cry. I used to be addicted to time travel. But that’s all in the past now. I challenged the number 1 to a fight, but he brought his friends 3, 5, 7, and 9. The odds were against me. I was feeling bad about the future today, but then I installed the new version of office. It improved my outlook. JI’m not wearing glasses anymore. I’ve seen enough. My mate says I’m getting fat, but in my defence... I’ve had a lot on my plate recently.

New data shows a drop in polluting vehicles driving in Sheffield Following the launch of Sheffield’s Clean Air Zone (CAZ) earlier this year, data shows there has been a significant increase in compliant vehicles driving in the CAZ and wider areas of the city. The proportion of more polluting vehicles driving through Sheffield has fallen by up to two thirds according to information taken from a survey in October 2023 when compared with the same survey from November 2022. The city’s CAZ came into effect on Monday 27 February 2023, with the aim to reduce the harmful levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) across Sheffield caused by polluting traffic. The Class C charging zone requires the most heavily polluting, noncompliant lorries, vans, buses, coaches and taxis to pay a fee to drive into the zone, with a view to encourage motorist to upgrade their vehicles to cleaner ones. Private passenger cars and motorbikes are not affected. In the first, Council-led, fleet data to be released since the zone was brought into operation, the number of polluting vehicles using the CAZ has fallen by nearly two thirds overall with big improvements across all vehicle types. Private Hire Vehicles are now 96 percent compliant compared to 77 percent before the CAZ was launched and Light Goods Vehicles are now 84 percent compliant compared to 59 percent before. The data shows that vehicles in Sheffield haven’t just improved within the CAZ boundary, but this benefit is also seen outside of the zone. Cllr Ben Miskell, Chair of the Transport, Regeneration and Climate Committee said: “Hundreds of people in Sheffield die prematurely each year due to air pollution, cleaning up the quality of the air we breathe around Sheffield is rightly one of our top priorities and this data shows that motorists are helping by moving to cleaner vehicles in response to the Clean Air Zone. In order to support local people to upgrade to

cleaner vehicles, the council secured one of the best possible financial support packages across any local authority. The council also met regularly with local businesses to best understand their needs and tailor support to their requirements, where possible. Cllr Miskell continued: “Ahead of the launch of the CAZ, we petitioned the government hard to provide the best possible financial support package for local people and it’s great to see so many people applying for support to upgrade their vehicle. The Financial Assistance Scheme support is still available to those wishing to upgrade and we would encourage people to apply."

The support package includes: • A Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) to support people to upgrade to a cleaner vehicle. • The Retrospective Scheme, which provided financial support towards the costs incurred for those who have already upgraded their vehicles. This scheme is no longer available. • An automatic exemption from CAZ charges for all Hackney Carriage Taxi’s, for over three months. • Expansion of the FAS to include local HGV owners who wish to upgrade or replace non-compliant HGVs. • Exemptions for coach operators passing through the CAZ to transport students for educational trips. • 12-month exemptions for vehicles meeting special criteria, such as community transport and hardto-replace vehicles. The council also introduced automatic 12-month exemption renewals for those vehicle types. News, Information and Advice mayor’s christmas card

South Yorkshire’s Mayor, Oliver Coppard, is delighted to announce that Emily Smith is the winner of his competition for a design for his 2023 Christmas card. Emily, 15, is one of four students at Doncaster Deaf Trust who sent in designs. Emily’s design will now be sent as an e-card, with printed copies also available. He said:“I’m delighted by the response to the competition this year, It was difficult to choose a winner, but Emily’s was the one that stood out for me. Christmas is a special time to spend with family, friends and loved ones, and I think that Emily’s winning entry captures that perfectly, using decorations to represent and display love; particularly the love that deaf families share with each other at Christmas. Emily’s design will now feature on the Christmas cards I send this year and will travel far and wide as an e-card and in print, and I’m genuinely proud to be able to share SY’s talent with the world.” Emily Smith said: “I’m happy to see my design chosen this year. The sign on the decorations is linked to love and the family sharing love with each other. It was something different and I wanted to spread this sign so hearing people could understand what it means! I love Christmas – we have lots of presents! I have a traditional Turkey Christmas dinner with my family and I love the stuffing balls! I am excited to see people happy, and I hope they will be happy when they receive a card from the Mayor with my design on it.”

seasonal affective disorder bishop visits snowdrop According to the NHS, SAD, more commonly known as the ‘winter blues’, affects an estimated 2 million people in the UK. It is a seasonal depression that usually occurs during daylight savings, and whilst the exact cause is not fully known, it has been linked to reduced exposure to sunlight. It is always best to see a GP if you think you have SAD, especially if you are finding it difficult to cope in the winter months. SAD has been linked to the following symptoms: • Consistent low mood • Irritability • Anxiety • Feeling unsociable • Tiredness and fatigue, even with a full nights of rest • Oversleeping • Hunger, cravings for ‘comfort’ foods – those high in carbohydrates and sugars • Weight gain • Decreased sex drive Here are seven tips you can use to help you deal with SAD this winter: Incorporate aromatherapy into your morning or bedtime routine Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to help promote well-being. Though this is not a treatment, aromatherapy can be a therapeutic and holistic option to help alleviate symptoms of anxiety and generally make you feel good. The best way to start aromatherapy at home is by using a diffuser that disperses scented vapour into the atmosphere. Lemon or peppermint essential oils are great for the morning and can create an uplifting atmosphere. Lavender essential oils are great if you are having trouble sleeping, as this can help increase melatonin production. Keep a diary or journal Keeping a diary is a great tool that can highlight any patterns and SAD symptoms you are experiencing. Using a

notepad or even your notes app on your phone, note down key moments of your day that you think are affecting you. This can help you understand what makes you feel better or worse and creates a sense of mindfulness. Increase your Vitamin D and light exposure intake Less sunlight exposure and time spent outdoors in the winter months can result in a lack of vitamin D, a primary cause of SAD, as vitamin deficiency is associated with depressive symptoms. Vitamin D supplements are great to take during the winter months, though if in doubt, consult your GP. Include tryptophan and protein-rich foods in your diet The colder months call for more comfort food, as eating what you crave can reduce stress hormones. When experiencing SAD, it can be beneficial to consume foods high in the amino acid Tryptophan. Tryptophan-rich foods include salmon, chicken and turkey. Vegetarian and vegan sources include pumpkin seeds, tofu (and other soya-based foods) and spinach. Ensure you’re doing 75 minutes or 3 x 25-minute exercises a week This does not mean high-intensity workouts; it can be moderate to light activity that can help get your blood pumping. This can even significantly reduce the chance of a stroke or heart disease. Introduce more greenery in your living spaces through houseplants Surprisingly, plants can help create a calm, peaceful environment that alleviates anxiety. Meal prep for the winter months One way you could prepare is by cooking and freezing meals in advance for when you have little to no energy; this ensures you have a balanced and healthy meal ready without effort.

The Snowdrop Project, a local charity which supports and empowers survivors of human trafficking and modern slavery, hosted the Rt Revd Dr Pete Wilcox, Bishop of Sheffield, at their Sheffield city centre office on Thursday 7th December. As Bishop of Sheffield since 2017, Bishop Pete is responsible for the care of parishes and clergy across Sheffield. Earlier this year, Bishop Pete also became a member of the House of Lords. Bishop Pete spent time with frontline staff at Snowdrop, who deliver casework support, counselling and community activities for survivors, to find out more about their roles. The Bishop was keen to learn more about modern slavery in South Yorkshire, the work Snowdrop does and how survivors can best be supported to recover from their experiences and rebuild their lives. During his visit, Bishop Pete also met and spent time with some of Snowdrop’s service users in an art workshop, which provided a first-hand insight into the support and sense of community that Snowdrop provides for survivors. Rachel Medina, CEO of the Snowdrop

Project, said: “We were so pleased to be able to show Bishop Pete around the Snowdrop Project’s offices. The Bishop was really interested in learning more about the work that we do and how recovery is different for every survivor that we support. Bishop Pete demonstrated a clear passion for equity and a strong commitment to the anti-slavery sector within Sheffield. His interest in raising awareness of modern slavery - and the gaps in support for survivors locally - was clear to see. We hope that Bishop Pete found his visit to Snowdrop engaging and insightful, and we look forward to working together in the future.” The Snowdrop Project provides longterm, holistic support to empower survivors of human trafficking and modern slavery to recover from their experiences of exploitation. Through casework support, befriending, counselling, community activities and house renovations, the Snowdrop Project enables survivors to build brighter, stable futures. Last year, Snowdrop supported 160 survivors and 85 children through their recovery journeys.

st luke’s festival of light

The annual St Luke’s Hospice Festival of Light switch-on will now go ahead on Wednesday December 20. The original launch date of December 3 had to be cancelled after heavy snowfalls made the hospice gardens inaccessible. But weather permitting, the ceremony has now been rescheduled for December 20, with visitors invited to attend a smaller-scale event from 5.30pm for a 6pm light switch-on. And once again, the evening will be hosted by BBC Radio Sheffield presenter Paulette Edwards, who will be joined for the official countdown by Michael King, whose wife Michelle was a St Luke’s patient. “We want to thank people for their understanding and kind messages following the difficult decision to cancel the original event but we really do want to make sure our supporters can still join us for this very special evening of remembrance,” said St Luke’s Head of Fundraising Joasia Lesniak. “While we won’t be able to hold the full event as planned for December 3, we hope that you will join us to remember your loved ones in our gardens as

we switch on our lights in a smaller Festival of Light event. It will be an opportunity to bring families together, reflect on time spent together and also to bring our St Luke’s community together before Christmas. Although we won’t be able to host food or drink stalls on the night as originally planned, we will be offering light festive refreshments, and there will be music and our dedicated name boards and screens for viewing. There will also be the chance to light a candle for your loved one and share a moment of reflection together. We are delighted too that Paulette will be hosting and that Michael will be able to share the story of his wife Michelle with our guests. For those unable to join us on Wednesday December 20, please remember that after this date, our lights will be on throughout the gardens and the Book of Remembrance available in our chapel for people to view at their leisure too.” For those unable to join the celebration, St Luke’s will be offering to send out a copy of the original event programme which includes the names of each dedication.

RICHARD HAWLEY PERFORMS HIS BIGGEST HOMETOWN SHOW AT ROCK N ROLL CIRCUS Opening Rock N Roll Circus in true South Yorkshire style, Richard Hawley is the latest headliner to be confirmed for next summer’s circus themed spectacular at Don Valley Bowl, Sheffield. The four-day live music event – now in its second year in the city - will kickstart with Hawley on Thursday 29th August 2024 for his biggest ever hometown show. He will be joined on the bill by Northern Irish baroque pop icon The Divine Comedy, Merseyside rock ‘n’ rollers The Coral, plus more special guests to be announced. In an exciting wave of announcements by the Sheffield live music long weekender

which has previously announced headliners Becky Hill (Friday 30th August) and Milburn (Saturday 31st August) Richard Hawley is the perfect artist to start the party. Richard is best known for his mix of classic songwriting, soothing vocals and northern grit realism. Hawley is something of a unique artist in British popular music ; also being synonymous with his association with Pulp but able to cross boundaries from one musical style to another whilst keeping intact his own strong identity. This proud Sheffield native is thrilled to launch next year’s Rock N Roll Circus 2024 in front of his fellow Sheffielders and those beyond.

Speaking ahead of today’s announcement, he said: It’s always a privilege and an honour to play in my hometown. I loved seeing Self Esteem at the Rock N Roll circus this year so I’m looking forward to it myself in ‘24” Cllr Martin Smith, Chair of the Economic Development and Skills Committee, continued: “I’m delighted to see the return of Rock N Roll Circus to Sheffield. Music is an important part of Sheffield, and events like this help us celebrate that. They also have a positive impact on our local economy, bringing more people to Sheffield, and bringing more visitors to our venues and businesses.

“We look forward to four days of circus fun, amazing music and the event being even bigger and better than ever.” Richard Hawley is synonymous with his native city of Sheffield. He has released nine studio albums over the last twenty years - two being nominated for the Mercury Music Prize – and over the years, he has duetted with Tom Jones, Nancy Sinatra and Shirley Bassey, and played with (amongst many more) Arctic Monkeys, Elbow, Paul Weller, Manic Street Preachers and Pulp, the band he played guitar with for a number of years. In October 2023 his Very Best of… ‘Now Then’ became his 4th top 10 album and received numerous 5/5 reviews across all media. The Divine Comedy, meanwhile, is the stuff of pop legend. The alias of Neil Hannon, a Northern Irish pop

singer/songwriter with aspirations of becoming a chamber pop fusion of Scott Walker, Morrissey, and Electric Light Orchestra was made famous by his epic 90s song ‘National Express.’ During the early ‘90s, he built up a strong cult following with a pair of idiosyncratic, critically acclaimed records before his third album, ‘Casanova’, became a mainstream success in the wake of Brit-Pop’s popularity. It wouldn’t have an authentic festival feel if The Coral weren’t in town and the much-loved Merseyside psych indie icons will have the people of Sheffield out early after their tea on the Thursday grand opener to enjoy their colossal back catalogue – which famously started with their chart topping self titled debut album and the huge early

noughties smash hit ‘Dreaming of You.’ Featuring multiple stages, spectacular aerialists, street food, new and improved VIP areas, beers, cocktails, and much more, Rock N Roll Circus has become a must-attend event for music and entertainment enthusiasts with four days of incredible live music under the big top creating an atmosphere like no other. Sign up to receive all the latest news from Rock N Roll Circus and get exclusive early ticket access here: https://bit.ly/ RNRCHawleySignUp Tickets go on sale Friday 15th December at 10am. Finding it a strain to read small print? The Compact Light sheds a better light so readers can see fine detail more clearly. Have you noticed that trying to focus indoors places your eyes under strain? Perhaps you find it difficult to see small print or to thread a needle? This happens because our eyes have evolved under the daylight spectrum. Normal indoor light doesn’t give them what they need to see detail in comfort. The Compact Light uses powerful truecolour LEDs and a fully flexible arm to direct all its eye-soothing light exactly where you need it. The minimalist design and 2.5m cable means you can place it pretty much anywhere. Order by 19th December for guaranteed Christmas delivery* *UK mainland

CHRIS WILDER ENJOYS TRIUMPHANT WINNING RETURN TO THE LANE Chris Wilder mastermind the first win of his second tenure as Blades boss, with a thoroughly deserved success over Brentford at Bramall Lane. James McAtee, a threat throughout an absorbing contest, curled home a wonderful effort and that proved decisive as the Blades produced an excellent second half showing that could have yielded more rewards. Wilder named an unchanged starting XI for the clash against the Bees, although there were two enforced changes on the

bench with youngsters Oné and Peck replacing Norwood (suspended) and Fleck (injured). On a soggy S2 afternoon, United won an early corner, but it was over hit by Hamer to the far post. Trusty was cautioned for a lunge on Lewis-Potter before Onyeka, who had already got away with a booking for a foul on Brooks, caught a sliding Souza well above his ankle. The midfielder was yellow carded and that decision remained despite a lengthy VAR check for a possible upgrade. The game only really

AT TIMES WE DIDN’T LOOK LIKE WE WERE PLAYING WITH 10 MEN CARLISLE Rotherham United interim boss Wayne Carlise expressed his disappointment with this weekend’s defeat to Swansea but says there are positives to take from the performance. “We’re obviously disappointed with the result. “Performance-wise, we thought we started really brightly then we went down to 10 men and even then I thought we stayed in the game. “We could have gone in at half-time level if we hadn’t conceded that goal and I thought we came out in the second half looking well-organised with a good shape about us. We didn’t sit and we tried to get ourselves up the pitch and at times we did cause them some problems. “I think it changes the course of the game [the sending off ], I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. “Anyone that had watched the game in the first 15 minutes will have known that it was all Rotherham. Swansea couldn’t get any sort of rhythm but the sending off changed the course of the game.”

burst into life in the last 10 minutes of the half, with Onyeka having a shot comfortably saved before Osula fired into the side-netting from Souza’s pass. But in the first of three added minutes, United deservedly took the lead as MCATEE curled home a beautiful effort giving Flekken no chance, this coming after an excellent run down the left by Archer and a failed clearance by Pinnock, with Hamer earning the assist. Like in the first half, Hamer curled in a setpiece which was narrowly missed by Ahmedhodžić,

as Osula was cautioned having caught Pinnock and moments later, Slimane was introduced at the expense of the Danish striker. The Tunisian international was straight into the thick of the action, with Flekken denying him at the near post from Archer’s low cross, before the visiting stopper palmed away another effort from the midfielder after more good work by Archer down the left. United were in the ascendency and only a perfectly timed challenge from Mee prevented

So proud of my team: ROHL

Danny Röhl has heaped praise on his players after securing our maiden away win of the campaign at Stoke. It was a complete team effort from front to back, those in the starting line-up and on from the bench, as Wednesday clinched a crucial win at the Bet365 Stadium. A Cameron Dawson penalty save and an injury time winner from substitute Anthony Musaba were the major talking points from a big victory in Staffordshire. Delighted by the result, Röhl said: “We showed our improvements from the last weeks. “Maybe four weeks ago we wouldn’t get a point in this game but now you are seeing the improvements

Archer from scoring after Brooks had fired a volley cross across the face of goal and with 18 minutes remaining, the Sheffield born youngster received a warm applause after another encouraging showing. Gradually, as you’d have expected, Brentford pushed United back, but Foderingham was equal to Wissa’s volley at the back post and at the other end, Flekken stood tall to beat away a strike from Archer, with Slimane then wasting a golden chance to make the game safe having robbed Damsgaard high

up the pitch. The clock was United’s friend, although skipper Ahmedhodžić had to be alert to block an effort from Mee, as

from my team and I have to say also, thank you for my bench. “It’s not always easy to not be in the starting 11 but I told my guys that it is important we have everyone on the bench ready because they can decide the game.” Following a low key first half, the game sprung into life after the hour mark when the hosts were awarded a contentious penalty. But Dawson preserved our clean sheet with a super stop from Ryan Mmaee’s spot kick and a buoyed Owls side went on to claim the win, with Musaba slotting home in added time. “Today it was a difficult one because they changed their shape twice and we had to adapt a little bit and there were times when we were under pressure,” Röhl added. “Cameron was fantastic today, he saved a penalty at the right moment and that creates energy and then at the end we can score – fantastic! “It was a big topic, late goals. We have conceded also late goals but now, yes, we have the feeling what we must do as a team in the extra time. “I feel that if we stick to our match plan and believe what we are doing then we can score every time and to do this today without conceding a goal is fantastic. “We took our first three points away, which is also a fantastic feeling, we are on a good way and we need to keep going and on Wednesday we have the next tough away game. “At the moment my team look fantastic, and I am so proud about them in the last weeks. “It hasn’t been easy. Against Birmingham we deserved more and we lost the game but this is a big process and it is about belief. We have the feeling we can score at any time and the atmosphere in the changing room is fantastic right now as well.”

Bogle, Robinson and Foderingham were all carded in the closing minutes and after a late VAR check for a possible penalty for a foul on

Nørgaard, referee Attwell blew for full time as the Lane erupted with joy, with Wilder savouring the moment in his technical area.

McCann pleased with draw Grant McCann praised his Rovers players for the manner in which they persevered in difficult circumstances at Accrington Stanley. Weather conditions had a major impact on the game with both sides lacking cohesion in the face of howling winds and relentless rain as they battled out a goalless draw. Rovers’ produced an excellent defensive effort to help secure a first away point of the season and could have won the game in the later stages when Harrison Biggins hit the crossbar with a header. “We just kept going,” McCann said. I was pleased with the lads’ attitude to keep the ball out of the back of the net. When the game is not really going how you want it to and because of the conditions, you’ve just got to stay in the game. There’s been times this season where we’ve lost close games like that so this is a step in the right direction for us.” On the weather conditions, McCann felt the circumstances meant the result was a good point for his side against a strong Accrington outfit. “It’s the same for both teams and I don’t think there were many clear cut chances in the game. I remember the second half, they had one quite early on when Owen Bailey made a really good block and Harrison Biggins hit the bar for us. It was a scrappy game with not much football played. The conditions were shocking but I’m pleased with the boys. That was a good point. It’s a tough place to come and a lot of teams would have folded here in the conditions and with the fans behind them. We’ll take the point and move on. Games like that, a bit of individual quality usually wins them. It didn’t happen. We were hoping that header from Biggo would drop under the bar after a good bit of play from Jamie Sterry and a good ball from Ben Close.”
