APPEAL TO FEEL THE BEAT FOR CHARITY People from across South Yorkshire are being urged to get behind a mass Zumbathon to raise vital funds for a charity appeal. The team behind the Sheffield Zumbathon which aims to raise money for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) is urging people to sign up for 50 minutes of Zumba, and raise money towards research to the Mending Broken Hearts Appeal.

Places are still available for the event at Don Valley Stadium on Sunday July 10, but people are being urged to register before the day to collect as much sponsorship as possible. The event organised in partnership with Sheffield International Venues (SIV) marks the Latin influence of Zumba with a festival experience and specialist instructors from SIV. Lauren Mallinson,

Fundraising Volunteer Manager, at BHF, said: “The Zumbathon is a great charity event as it’s so different being just 50 minutes of exercise which anybody can do as opposed to training for something like a 10k race. “Coronary heart disease is the UK’s biggest killer but it is something that we together can change with research. “It’s just £5 to sign up, and the money will

give hope to local heart patients living with life limiting conditions like heart failure. As an additional challenge, we’re asking people to aim to raise £50 in sponsorship – just £1 for every year of the BHF’s life-saving work. But if you can’t reach that target, just raise as much as you can as every penny counts. So come on everybody sign up today to take part in this fantastic event all in aid of a good cause!”

All money raised will go towards the appeal and fund the research that could begin to literally ‘mend broken hearts’ in as little as 10 years’ time. Dave Birds, Group Fitness Referral Manager at SIV, said: “We are delighted to partner up with the British Heart Foundation, a fantastic charity, helping to raise vital funds for their appeal. “At SIV, I work particularly close with

patients with a range of heart problems and have seen first hand how exercise can benefit them. Zumba is a great fitness regime that combines keeping fit and having fun which the Zumbathon is sure to deliver.” Zumba is the new cardio dance exercise that has taken Sheffield by storm over the last year, getting people fit by combining Latin dance steps with more traditional aerobic moves.
