This autumn Marie Curie Cancer Care is appealing to people in South Yorkshire to hit the dance floor and raise money to show support for the local Marie Curie Nurses in our area. The charity’s brand new Dance-a-thon Event is taking place at Ponds Forge on the evening of Thursday 17th November. This exciting, first time event will test endurance as dancers are challenged to keep moving for three hours as they learn at least four different dance styles, including the ever popular zumba! Local fundraiser Liz Howlett explains, “Each hour of dancing is led by expert dance teachers who will guide you through the moves and keep you motivated as you dance the night away. You don’t need a partner or any dance experience whatsoever for this event, just the determination and willpower to keep dancing. It’s a great one to come along to either on your own or with a big group of mates and don’t worry about mastering the steps – it’s just all about keeping moving and grooving!” Marie Curie Cancer Care provides nursing care to patients with terminal cancer and other illness,

Weekly Wit With... ALBERT SNODGRASS
A young couple wanted to join a church. The priest told them, “We have special requirements for new parishioners. You must abstain from sex for one whole month.” The couple agreed and after two-and-a-half weeks returned to the Church. When the Pastor ushered them into his office, the wife was crying and the husband obviously very depressed. You are back so soon... Is there a problem?” the Priest inquired. We are terribly ashamed to admit that we did not manage to abstain from sex for the required month....” the young man replied sadly. The Reverend asked him what happened. “Well, the first week was difficult.... However, we managed to abstain through sheer willpower. The second week was terrible, but with the use of prayer, we managed to abstain.” “However, the third week was unbearable. We tried cold showers, prayer, reading from the Bible.... anything to keep our minds off carnal thoughts. One afternoon, my wife reached for a can of paint and dropped it. When she bent over to pick it up, I was overcome with lust and had my way with her right then and there.” admitted the man, shamefacedly. “You understand this means you will not be welcome in our church,” stated the pastor. “We know..” said the young man, hanging his head. “We’re not welcome in Homebase either...”

While attending a marriage seminar dealing with communication, Tom and his wife Grace listened to the instructor, “It is essential that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each other.” He addressed the men, “Can you describe your wife’s favourite flower?” Tom, smiling but looking a little nervous, leaned over, touched his wife’s arm gently and whispered, “It’s self-raising, isn’t it?
round-up by stuart renton
In the week that Doctor Who ended (boo, now I’ll have nothing to slag off), the live finals of Strictly and X Factor begin (oh, hang on, I will), it’s been a bit of a mixed bag. New series, Terra Nova, was more terror than supernova and should have be renamed “Terror Coma” as it either scared you by how awful it was or put you to sleep with its insipid plot and pointless posturing. The sci-fi show from Steven “I got lucky with Indiana jones and ET” Spielberg, sees an “ordinary” family going back in time to save the world. Sorry but hang on. How many ‘ordinary’ families do you know that can: a) time travel, and, b) look like they’ve just come off the set of a Vogue shoot? Terra Nova is reminiscent of the ultra crappy, Outcasts (a show I previously slagged off in Spring); it’s a dreary concept with an even drearier script. The storyline is so shallow, babies couldn’t drown in it! Hell, amoeba couldn’t drown in it! Speaking of single-celled organisms, my advice to any aspiring writers would be to leave the experimentation to the bedroom and focus on delivering fun, intelligent, and thought provoking television. And, speaking of thought provoking, there’s only one question on everyone’s lips: when is Bruce Forsyth going to move on? The guy’s been doing exactly the same routine since the seventeenth century (well it feels like it) and it’s more than time for a change. The audience politely laughs at his jokes and his self-deprecating humour directed at his age was inappropriate a decade ago. The look-at-Forsyth train wreck is undermining the show as what he’s going to fluff next is more entertaining (and embarrassing) than the actual dancing. Bruce, you’re old, you’re not funny and you’re just plain tired! Bring on Vernon Kaye... On second thoughts, only bring on Vernon Kaye if the Government intends to bring back hanging. Now, that’d be unmissable TV. And speaking of great TV, I think it would be fantastic if we could have Roasts in the UK; not ‘comedy’ ones, but actual “Zelebrities” on bonfires. I would happily start with Kerry Katona and Jason Donovan, but, disappointingly, the toxic cloud that would pour off Katie Price’s plastic “assets” would cause a national disaster the likes of which haven’t been seen since Chernobyl. So that’s the end of that great idea! And lastly, Cheryl Cole was allegedly keen to get involved in her own roast this week, but backed out when she discovered the two burly men on set would be doing nothing more than lighting the bonfire. Apparently, her definition of a “roast” is very different to mine! You draw your own conclusions.

LIFE OF REILLY
Hailing from Liverpool, and based in Sheffield, Yorkshire, John Reilly emerges from his former role as the frontman for Atlantic Records recording artists Boy On A Dolphin to release his solo album, ‘Zebulon’ on October 10th 2011. In between American tours with Boy On A Dolphin, Reilly travelled north to Vancouver to spend time co-writing with some of the greatest songwriters in the business, including Jim Vallance (Bryan Adams, Aerosmith, Tina Turner) and Robbie Buchanan (Christina Aguilera, Diana Ross). Having already forged a reputation as a great songwriter in his own right, (American Billboard Magazine said “Reilly unearths one precious pop gem after another”) Reilly took considerable inspiration from working with such acclaimed writers and focused on further developing his own writing style. Meanwhile his songs were being places in movies such as ‘Tokyo Cowboy’ and TV shows True North, Dawson Creek and X Files. When John returned to England with just a handful of solo gigs under his belt he was offered a slot opening for Ray Davies, who was so impressed with John’s performance he offered him the support slot for the whole tour, which culminated in John fulfilling a life-long ambition – playing a sold-out show at The Royal Albert Hall. Full of confidence and ideas for his solo album, John flew to Toronto to team-up with in-demand Canadian pianist/songwriter Lewis Nitikman, who’d already written with world-class songwriters such as Eddy Schwartz (Mike & The Mechanics, The Doobie Bros., Joe Cocker, Pat Benatar), Steve Diamond (Eric Clapton, Heart), Bruce Miller (Reba McIntyre, Dixie Chicks) & John Capek (Rod Stewart, Diana Ross, Joe Cocker). For Reilly, whose mantra is “the song is God - not the artist”, it was a songwriting match made in heaven. Having been let loose from the constraints of being in a band, Reilly’s lyrics became a lot more personal and he discovered a renewed creative energy that had obviously been bubbling under the surface for a long time. During the next eighteen months Reilly and Nitikman, who eventually moved to Sheffield to continue the fruitful partnership, wrote over three albums worth of material. “I believe in songs speaking to people
individually, one-by-one,” says Reilly. “I also believe a great song is timeless. I only write songs that can be stripped down to piano or guitar & vocal before thinking about production and instrumentation.” After painstakingly identifying the songs that would make the final cut, recording sessions for ‘Zebulon’ began to take place in Toronto, Vancouver & Sheffield, with members of fellow Sheffield artist Richard Hawley’s band (drummer Dean Beresford, bassist Colin Elliot and guitarist Shez Sheridan) adding their celebrated pedigree to the album’s dynamics. With tracks such as album opener ‘Some Fall Too Hard’, ‘Not Alone’ and ‘One More Mile’ establishing a very British vibe to the album, ‘Zebulon’ also features nods towards blue eyed soul in the form of ‘Building Avalon’, ‘Before You’ and ‘Living With It’, each highlighting Reilly’s versatility as a singer and songwriter. Songs such as ‘Tightrope’ ‘Deep and Blue’ and ‘The Break’ open the door into a much more intimate and personal space. Singles ‘Not Alone’ and ‘Building Avalon’ have already received airplay across several shows on BBC Radio 2, with the latter also being picked-up by CBC, Canada’s biggest national radio station, who have placed the song on full rotation. RTE Radio 1 in Ireland have also picked up the track ‘Deep and Blue’. Having performed to over 100,000 people during performances at festivals, The Royal Albert Hall and several sold-out hometown headline shows at Sheffield’s prestigious City Hall, John Reilly is looking forward to continued radio support and breaking out of the recording studio once again to perform ‘Zebulon’ across the UK in late 2011 with a full tour in February 2012. Zubelon is released on Monday 10th October and is available from iTunes and www.johnreilly.org

The Academy of Spiritual Knowledge
Weekly Psychic Article by Psychic Glynis
Palms (Part Two) Random Marks And The Head Line The Mount of Mercury is on the left side of the right hand just below the little finger. The Mount of Jupiter is just below the first finger on the right hand. The Head Line The Head Line starts near the thumb between the Heart Line and the Life Line. It ends below the Heart Line under the Mount of Mercury. The Head Line indicates intellect, ability and personality. It highlights a person’s ability to think clearly. The Head Line always begins on the side of the palm near the thumb on the Mount of Jupiter. It shows someone who is confident and ambitious. If the line starts high on the Mount of Jupiter the person is trustworthy to a fault. Look to see how big the gap is between the start of the Head Line and Life Line. The bigger the space the more important the person is. If the Head Line and Life Line are joined together the person lacks confidence in their ability to make decisions. They are a cautious person, not very independent and strongly influenced by their family. The length of the fusion indicates how long this insecurity will last. Does Your Heart Rule Your Head? It may do if the Heart Line is longer or deeper than the Head Line on the left hand! A large gap between the Head Line and the Heart Line denotes someone who is broad minded and unconventional. It takes a lot to shock this person because they have such a tolerant attitude to life. A Head Line appears missing when the Head Line and Heart Line have joined together to form the Simian Line. The Simian Line One of the most fascinating marks is the Simian Line which shows intensity and personality
extremes. Instead of having a separate Head Line and Heart line, there is one strong Simian Line travelling across the palm like a railroad track. If you have this it suggests a one track mind and tunnel vision. You may also be focused, intense and volatile in your personal style. On the left hand it relates to your personal relationships and feelings, on the right hand it expresses your outer life and working environment. Wherever fate leads us the lives on our hands will always be there for everyone to see. Random Marks Stars - A star on the Mount of Apollo (just below the ring finger on the right hand) brings money. It indicates lots of lovers. Triangles - A triangle signals despair, do not take chances. Beware and be wise. Crosses - Crosses on parts of the palm indicate when trouble is near. Squares - Squares are a sign of protection from danger. Squares also link with infection. Chains - Chains which have formed upon any line indicate a difficult time ahead. Tassels - Lines that are tasseled means that energy is being drained. When you overdo things there is nothing gained only stress. Forked Lines - Drooping branches can mean a sad surprise.

PROTECT YOURSELF AGAINST SCAMS
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/ Governmentcitizensandrights/ Consumerrights/ Protectyourselffromscams/DG_195960 Scams are schemes that try to trick you out of your money. Common scams include: • foreign lottery wins – these ask you to pay a fee to claim your ‘prize’ when you haven’t really won anything • get-rich-quick investments – invite you to invest money for a ‘guaranteed’ profit, when there is no investment so you lose your money • miracle health cures – invite you to buy a health product like arthritis cream from a website that has not been tested and is unproven A scam is usually uninvited (unsolicited). This means it will come from a company or person you’ve never heard of by: • post – through a letter or promotional leaflet • email – through a personal or promotional message (‘spam emails’) • phone (‘cold calling’) • text message A scam will: • give extravagant promises – if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is • ask you to pay for something upfront, eg you have to pay a fee to claim a prize • put pressure on you to make a quick decision, eg an investment opportunity will end unless you pay straight away • ask for bank account details so they can steal your money Never give out bank details to people you don’t know or people you meet online. Other signs of a scam are the person or company only: • gives a mobile phone number as a contact • uses a PO box number or mail box as an address – mail boxes look like a real address but the business isn’t based there PO boxes and mobile numbers are easy to turn off and hard to trace. Use an online search engine to check a business’s address – a mail box will have many companies based at the same address. If you receive emails or letters about a scam, don’t reply – even to say no. Once scammers get a reply, they will send more unwanted messages. If you are cold-called by a scammer, hang up. Don’t give out any personal details like your address or ‘confirm’ details like your bank account number. If you answer the door to a salesperson, ask to see their ID. Check the company name, eg online, and then call the company to check the person works there. If you have lost money to a scam, report it to the police and Action Fraud, the national fraud reporting centre. You should also take steps to reduce your risk of being contacted with more scam offers (see section below ‘Reduce your risk of being scammed’). If you think you’ve been tricked into calling a premium-rate number, complain to PhonepayPlus. It has the power to fine companies and stop them offering premium-rate numbers.

MORE CHOICE FOR VEOLIA WELCOMES PATIENTS CONSULTATION RESIDENTS TO SHEFFIELD http://www.sheffield.nhs.uk/consultations OPEN DAY In order to improve services for patients, and giving you more choice, the Department of Health has asked each region to select a list of health services/ treatments that could be provided by more than one organisation from September 2012 onwards. When organisations have proved that they can offer the service to a high enough NHS quality, this would then enable patients to choose where they receive their treatment/ healthcare. In Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS think that local services that could be delivered in this way could include organisations providing: • diagnostic tests (such as ultrasound, MRI and CT Scans) closer to home • support and services to help with the self-management of Long Term Conditions • community chemotherapy, including home chemotherapy • physiotherapy services to treat back and neck pain • dementia care/ memory services For more information and to take part in the consultation please visit: http://www. opinionsuite.com/nhsrotherham/cluster/ more-choice-for-patients/consult_view Closing date 12 October 2011.

CARE HOME FEES: IS THE LOCAL AUTHORITY AFTER YOUR HOUSE? Many children have enabled their parents to buy their council house. But have they considered what would happen if their parents go into residential care? In the case of Nottingham City Council v Berresford (November 2010) the mother, who lived on her own, exercised her right to buy. Under the Right to Buy rules, only mum could have her name on the title, but she couldn’t afford to buy the house. It was agreed that all the mortgage repayments and repairs were to be paid for by her children and mum was to live there rent free. In return the children would own all the “beneficial interest” in the house so that if sold, they would be entitled to the sale proceeds. In 2007, Mrs Berresford, then aged 83, thought she had better makes things clear and along with the children she signed a deed declaring the agreement they had reached. Two years later Mrs Berresford went into a home. The council argued that the deed was an attempt to offload her liability to pay for her care on to the public
purse and sought to register a charge at the Land Registry which would have allowed them to recover the fees from the sale proceeds. Luckily for the children, the Land Registry adjudicator believed their account and held that as the children held the entire beneficial interest, the council could not register their charge. But the result could easily have been different. Wrigleys recently successfully argued a similar matter and deal regularly with disputes with councils where children have supported their parents purchase and carried out significant repairs and improvements thinking they are gaining an asset. The lesson is to make these agreements formal or risk losing the house to pay care fees. £200K FIGHTING FUND TO BATTLE PPL OBITUARY Three leading trade associations have raised over £200,000 as a fighting fund to cover the costs of a potential legal battle with music royalties company PPL. The British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA), the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR) and nightclub association Noctis are considering legal action against PPL’s proposals to increase the tariff on specially featured entertainment (SFE) events such as DJ nights and discos by up to 4,000%. The proposed new charges are based on a calculation of how much extra customers would likely spend when an SFE event takes place, with fees based on average attendance, plus the number and duration of SFE events. BBPA chief executive Brigid Simmonds said the trade would fight the PPL proposals “all the way”. “PPL has put out a consultation that would be deeply damaging to the industry on its specially
featured entertainment tariff,” said Simmonds. “We are working with Noctis and ALMR and have put together a campaign fund of over £200,000 with them, and with individual companies that are concerned about this, which would help to pay for the legal costs. “We have a QC in place and we have got a firm of economic consultants who are looking at the proposals PPL has put forward.” PPL was forced to refund £18.13m in 2009 to pubs, restaurants and hotels after the Copyright Tribunal ruled that the group had overstepped the mark in 2005 by raising fees for background music by up to 403%. ALMR strategic affairs director Kate Nicholls said: “This is an issue where the trade needs to be united and we are working together and utilising the expertise of three leading trade bodies. “We hope we can have a sensible dialogue (with PPL), but we are prepared to take it all the way because the effect this could have
on our members is so significant.” John Hayes, vice-chairman of Noctis, added: “This would be the death knell for the trade should it end up at tribunal, and absolutely devastating for the late-night industry. “The silver lining is that this campaign has brought the industry together again and we will be behind it more than any other association.” A PPL spokesperson said: “PPL remains in a consultation phase in regard to the review of our specially featured entertainment tariff. “The BBPA, ALMR and Noctis have been actively engaging with us throughout this process, but have yet to submit any formal responses to the most recent consultation document. “Any further comment on the most recent announcement by the trade associations would therefore be inappropriate at this stage.”

Heroes come in all walks of life and we thought it was about time the culinary trade got in on the action. So, the search is on for the best bars, restaurants, delis and cafes across our area. Do you have a favourite place you enjoy eating out at? Possibly you may have dined out with the family and enjoyed a good meal at an eatery you would never have tried before, or tasted the best steak in town may be. Here’s your chance to help us hand out recognition to those who deserve it as we celebrate what’s good near us We’re also looking for the names of any individuals you can think of who have done their bit to help put us on the culinary map. Perhaps there’s a good chippy near you, or a star local fishmonger, butcher or grocer who gets your vote. You can nominate them as your Magic AM ‘Food Hero’. Entries are open now in the Eat Sheffield Awards, and you can vote right up until October 17th. Just go to magicam.co uk to find out more. I’ll be dishing out the honours to the makers of the best grub at a star studded ceremony at Sheffield Winter Garden on Monday October 24th. If you’re a cracker in the kitchen, we might even get to meet on the night as well. There’ll be updates on the Magic AM Breakfast Show, along with the regular mix of the best of the 60s, 70s and more.
SUNDAY SERVICE DOWN THE CLUB CLUBHISTORIANS.CO.UK by Ruth Cherrington
For many people, Sunday morning used to mean a visit to the local church for their weekly service. It still does for plenty up and down the country but dwindling numbers turn up on a regular basis just as fewer people have been using clubs in recent years. Some church goers would follow their devotions by a few pints and a chat at their local club, maybe a game of bingo or snooker. But it has to be said that many just skipped the church visit. This has drawn criticisms of clubs as being immoral dens of inequities but that is a rather unjustified over -generalisation. When the club movement first began, there was much support from the clergy who could see their advantages of pubs with their educational activities and sports. It was not uncommon for local vicars to be patrons of clubs who sang their praises just as did the man who set up the CIU - the Reverend Solly. Even when clubs included the supply of beer as part of their services, there was still support from religious quarters because of the democratic aspects of clubs as well as their charitable work. Clubs and religion have been closely linked from the very beginning even though the CIU took a ‘broad church’ approach as far as churches were concerned: no one religion to be upheld to the detriment of others. If clubs wanted to be linked to the Catholic church they could be and many still are, with the communities being intertwined. Others opted to be more Protestant inclined and there were some Jewish clubs. This didn’t mean that religious activity per se took place on their premises but that religious concerns could be part in the club’s considerations. Other clubs just stood back completely and there are plenty of examples of clergymen even bishops who would venture into local clubs to drink with local men and women and make important links. Some realised that they had a better chance of catching up with their flock at the club rather in church on a Sunday morning. This can be considered a form of outreach work, religion going to the people. In some circumstances, such as newly built council estates after the war, new residents got together to set up a club years before a church appeared. This was the case with the Canley Social club in Coventry which opened in 1950, five years before the church. Did it mean that the estate’s residents were irreligious? Not necessarily. Once churches appeared, coexistence with rather than opposition to the club was the best policy- and probably one that the Reverend Solly would have approved of.

where they could enjoy a night out. And coming up on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th October is a fantastic family weekend – a two day Charity Gala in aid of Weston Park Hospital, with a huge range of activities including a BBQ, Ann Summers Party, Auctions, Bingo, Raffles, Face painting, Stock Cars for the kids and much, much more!
It is probably fair to say that whenever Punch Taverns examined their portfolio, the White Horse on Halifax Road was one pub So if you’ve a few hours to spare, pay them a that caused them much heartache! visit and help raise money for one of the City’s A great building on a super site, it is fair to say most deserving causes! that, in the past, there have been issues. Step forward Roy and Libby however, and in only a few weeks things have changed dramatically! I had the pleasure of visiting the pub on Saturday evening, and the first thing I could not help but notice was the large number of families with young children enjoying the glorious weather, with a bouncy castle to keep the kids entertained. Inside I was equally pleasantly surprised. There was a bustle of activity with both main rooms undergoing preparations for family parties during the evening. The staff were welcoming and friendly even before they realised I was a reporter! The customers were universally complimentary when describing to me the difference Roy & Libby have made in only a few weeks. They were delighted that once again there was a large, family friendly pub on the doorstep

REVIEW: FEED THE RHINO by KT Evans
PREVIEW: SKEPTA by KT Evans
Down an alley way, under a dingy bridge, shunned into the attic room of Leeds Cockpit…one of the most exciting hardcore gigs this summer took place…Feed the F***ing Rhino! Still largely an underground Punk Rock band, the five piece from Kent well and truly smashed it with their over exaggerated live performance, which from start to finish was a full blown, ear splitting cracker. One definitely not for the faint hearted, Feed The Rhino not only ensured half the crowd emerged with at least one black eye, but also confirmed them as one of the UK’s top hard-core metal bands. Having played to packed audiences at the likes of Hevy Fest and Sonisphere Festival 2011, Feed The Rhino not only deserved a far bigger and better room, they also should have had a much bigger turn-out. However, letting this not hinder their performance, lead vocalist Lee took to the miniscule stage with heap loads of passion and more energy that a Relentless addict. Making like Moses and parting his dedicated fan base resulting in one hell of a wall of death, we were all very quickly thrust into bolting riffs and fast passed rhythm patterns throughout their half hour long set. Recently announcing their full UK support slot with Sheffield hard-core heads While She Sleeps, Feed The Rhino have a certain raw edge about them…whether it be the bolshy bass-lines as delivered by Oz Craggs or the grittiness of Lee’s vocals, tracks such as ‘The Butcher’ ooze professionalism, as performed throughout the bands set. Other belters ‘Mr Red Eye’ and ‘Caller Of The Town’ run in much the same way, each omitting a cocky confidence whilst still staying true to the notoriously fierce hard-core genre. It was clear in the bands full on performance that the audience’s enthusiasm evidently rubs off onto them…drummer Chris plays pace maker whilst guitarists James and Sam give it some certified oomph, not only allowing the crowd to loosen up but also the band members alike. Commanding the floor from the opening riff of their set, if Feed The Rhino owned the stage, their support acts merely rented it off them. Brutal and fierce they may be yes, however the five piece have got their presence and song writing ability to a tee, inducing one their most exciting sets so far.
Stemming from his hometown of London, grime star Skepta is bringing his anthemic live show to Sheffield’s O2 Academy on Thursday 13th October. Embarking on his full O2 academy date UK tour, Skepta is one of the most up-and coming grime artists within the modern music scene, who along with a belting live show will sure deliver big when gracing the academy’s stage in The Steel City. With his third studio album, ‘Doin It Again’ peaking at number two in the UK R&B charts 2011, Skepta not only has had a hugely successful previous year, but has also won fans on both a national aswell as international level. Born Joseph Junior Adenuga, the twenty nine year old from Tottenham London has reached the top in both music production aswell as DJing. Heavily associated with the North London Grime scene, Skepta has worked with the likes of Roll Deep and Meridian Bloodline, allowing him the experience to build upon his own, original style of music production. Releasing five singles off his first major label studio album, ‘Doin It Again’ saw grime anthems to include ‘Bad Boy,’ ‘Rescue Me,’ ‘Cross My Heart,’ ‘So Alive’ and ‘Amnesia’ being released into the UK singles chart. ‘Rescue Me,’ the most successful single out the album releases peaked at number fourteen, safeguarding Skepta as one of grimes front runners. Spending three weeks in the UK album charts, ‘Doin It Again’ was above and beyond the Londoner’s most successful release to date. Having recently signed a four year album deal with UK record label Island Records, Skepta has certified backing of his own personal success, Known to be his first official signing to a major record label, Skepta’s response was ‘…safe for the love!’ Trendy so and so! Support for Skepta will come from Tempa T, a grime MC with associations with Slew Dew Crew and Boy Better Know. Famed for his individual style and hype bars, the Londoner has over twenty thousand fans on his official facebook page, along with countless views of his performances on internet phenomena youtube. Having produced several belters including Battle Riding, Chronik and Next Hype, Tempa T has an on-going ‘beef’ with Griminal, a clashing MC of which has stirred many an argument between the two stars. Going at logger heads at the recent Eskimo party in London, expect references to the dispute when he performs at O2 Academy next week. Tickets are still available for the show, one certainly not to be missed. For more info, visit the official site at www.o2academysheffield.co.uk for ticket info, opening times and general admission details.
For more info on Feed The Rhino’s UK tour with While She Sleeps, see their facebook page on www.facebook.com/feedtherhino or their official website on www.feedtherhino.co.uk. Get on it!

FEEL THE FORCE
This Saturday the UK’s premier turntablist DJ Yoda brings his elaborate audio-visual showcase to the Academy. In an age when DJs are embracing new technologies to make their life easier (who hasn’t been to a night where the DJ stands there with a laptop clicking away like they’re some sort of secondary school I.T. Technician), Yoda has been at the forefront of both developing and showcasing technology & techniques that he combines with full on turntablist talent to produce an all encompassing musical spectacle. Duncan Beiny aka DJ Yoda is no ordinary scratch DJ. His seminal How To Cut & Paste series showcased a tongue-in-cheek mixing style that prompted Q Magazine to declare him “one of the ten DJs to see before you die”, whilst Hip Hop Connection voted him “one of the top three DJs in the world”. From hip-hop beginnings, DJ Yoda has evolved in the past ten years, using his turntable skills and diverse influences, as varied as Funk, B-more, Kuduro, Reggae, Drum ‘n’ Bass and even Big Band Swing and Country & Western, to make unashamed party music. He can be found cutting the Indiana Jones theme with woofer-worrying Dubstep or The Muppet Theme with MIA. His shows are peppered with Film, TV and YouTube samples and visuals that lift his sets to new and stratospheric heights. Trail-blazing into the world of the audio-visual he pioneered a new art form, using cutting edge technology that he has been instrumental in developing, to scratch and mix visuals on top of his DJ sets in the clubs. Starting out by re-scoring both
‘The Goonies’ and ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ on the festival circuit in 2003 and 2004, DJ Yoda went on to transform the average night out into a fusion of clubbing and the movies. His recent AV tours have included “DJ Yoda Goes To The Movies”, “Magic Cinema Show” and “National Video Vacation”. DJ Yoda recently released the fourth and fifth instalments of the ‘How To Cut and Paste’ mix CD series, moving even further away from the hip-hop template into un-chartered musical territory. Blowing the barn doors off for a wild hayride into the heart of Country & Western, Vol. 4 was a truly surprising and groundbreaking edition, whilst ‘The ‘30’s Edition’ (Vol. 5) featured the kings of swing retooled with raw 21st Century beats. It scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in iDJ magazine, and has thrown the doors wide open for the series’ future. For his debut album ‘The Amazing Adventures Of DJ Yoda’, released to critical acclaim in 2006, he produced tracks with Biz Markie, 2005 MOBOwinner Sway, Princess Superstar, Jungle Brothers, MC Paul Barman, and a host of other vocalists. He has also made music for Film, TV and Advertising and is currently finishing a new artist album. The Wonderful World of DJ Yoda O2 Academy Saturday October 8th £8.00 Entry Doors 10pm

Moira worries that John will discover she lied. Laurel warns Sandy to back off. Coronation St Mon - Carla receives some shocking news. Stella puts her foot down when Tracy attempts to take charge. Lloyd and Cheryl suffer the consequences as Chris lives a lie. Carla is floored when an unexpected visitor arrives to stir up trouble. Chris revels in causing friction between Cheryl and Lloyd. Eileen gets one over on Gail during her date. Thurs - Carla breaks down when a client gets too close. Eileenʼs evening is ruined when Paul makes a sharp exit. Sylvia spots a winning opportunity. Fri - Carla is stunned when Frank turns up the pressure. A sombre Eileen is left confused by Paulʼs behaviour. Mary is outraged to discover that Sylvia has stolen her idea. A determined Carla squares up to Frank. Will Paul tell Eileen the truth? Tommy is green with envy as Matt woos Tina.
Neighbours Mon - Just as Michael and Tash appear to be on the right road, he carelessly leaves a photo lying around that makes Tash question what happened at the beach again. Andrew, on finding out why Chris has quit his job at the garage, confronts Lucas. Feeling Noah drifting away, Sophie risks losing her prize possession, her guitar, in a bid to reconnect with him. Tues -After Lucas apologises to Chris, he is annoyed when Chris refuses to accept it. Washing his hands of him, it takes Sonyaʼs intervention for him to realise he cares for Chris more than just as an employee. Summer pushes Tash to find out more about what happened to her mother. Sonya has to reveal to Kyle that she is going to support Toadie over the row about the shopping centre. Wed - Kate, believing Sophieʼs crush on Noah is waning, allows her to join up with him. Sophieʼs idea to get close to him again involves her swapping her guitar for a bass, but that
brings its own problems. Summer trawls the newspaperʼs archives in the search for more information on Tashʼs mother. Thurs - The council meeting about the shopping centre approaches Toadie. Trying to keep out of the firing line, he finds out that Peter will chair the meeting. But when Peter sees the strength the opposition have mustered, Toadie is drawn into the open. Kate punishes Sophie for bunking off school to get her bass guitar, but the tables are soon turned. Fri - At the council meeting, Toadie is forced to speak on behalf of the development, which draws some serious flack from Paul. He suggests Toadie only got his job to help smooth this application through - an accusation Peter does not fully deny. Jade feels guilty after ruining the smart shirt Rhys was going to wear for an interview. Eastenders Mon - Zainab is left humiliated when Denise accidentally reveals all about her recent ordeal, while Yusef gets more than he bargained

I’ve been fishing for many years now, ever since I was about 12 years old, and, with the exception of my seven years in the Armed Forces, I’ve fished more or less every year since. I don’t know about you, but I don’t remember many milestones in that time, unlike some anglers I’ve met who can tell me exactly how much their target fish in 1976 weighed, where it came from, weather conditions and what bait they used!! I do however have a few from this season; and, looking back at what I’ve sometimes thought has been a diabolical year, it hasn’t actually been that bad! My Lymm Anglers Club membership ticket gives me access to a water called Lymmvale near Winsford in Cheshire; some time ago, it contained both the official golden tench and golden orfe UK records and is currently renowned for its stocks of tench averaging 5lbs amongst other specimen fish. During this year, (and to order) I’ve been lucky enough to have a session which produced no less than a dozen tench between 5-9lbs for a magazine feature, I’ve also had bream to 7lbs 12ozs and this week I snaffled a simply stunning ghost carp of 15lbs 10ozs, which is one of only two recognised ghosts in the lake! I’ve missed out on the rudd within the pool which have reached over 3lbs, and also the big cats which go to 63lbs in addition to other carp of almost 30lbs! Maybe next year..... Talking of milestones, a visit to Pendle View in Lancashire threw up a 25lbs 10z pb mirror carp on my first visit and I’ve had some belting bags of big roach from Baden Hall in Staffordshire! I wangled an invite to Horseshoe Lake in Lechlade, Gloucestershire and managed to combine a family holiday in Devon with some boat fishing and a visit to my new sponsor, so I’ve been busy! Couple that with two weekly columns, a monthly magazine feature and writing for five websites, I’m surprised I’ve had chance to go fishing at all! It’s not all been fun though; I’ve had a serious run of blanks midway through the season, and, with only one day a week to get out and dangle, it got pretty demoralising for a bit whilst I struggled to catch! I’ve also forgotten to write weekly pieces on occasion; I recently received an email from the editor of this very publication asking for my column! I was convinced I’d already sent it and was at work when he contacted me, so had to write something quickly! Obviously, when I got home, I found I HAD written it, just neglected to hit the ‘send’ button! D’oh! It’s also cost me a fortune in diesel this year; I know prices for just about everything are going up, but fuel seems to have risen unjustly and unfairly and may soon start to curtail my travelling, I expect that I won’t be alone there... I hope to find out what kind of season you have had, so let me know so I can share it with everyone else at clint597@btinternet.com

It’s Middle Park and Dewhurst day at “Headquarters”, along with the second leg of the Autumn double, the Cesarewitch handicap. York hosts a goodish meeting but without anything of the class on show at Newmarket. Newmarket starts at 2.05 with the Group 2 Burj Khalifa Challenge Stakes over 7 furlongs. Those in the field that have won at this level include: Strong Suit (5/2 fav.); Delegator (8/1); Maqaasid (12/1) and King Torus (16/1). All have respectable chances and I would not wish to put you off backing any of them that takes your fancy. However, there are dangers lurking at bigger prices that may be able to spring a surprise, namely: Across the Rhine; Empowering; Eton Rifles; and Yaa Wayl. The one that appeals most to me and, as a consequence, has to shoulder the welter burden of being my selection is Aidan O’Brien’s 3yo Empowering, who looks as though she may be able now to step up to this level having run really well behind Bewitched last time. The Group 1 Emaar Middle Park Stakes over 6 furlongs at 2.35 has all the hallmarks of being a cracking contest. The unbeaten Bapak Chinta has to have a good chance along with the French raider Family One and one of my favourites Caspar Netscher. All merit much respect. Nevertheless I am going for an outsider again and this time I have chosen George Margarson’s Rebellious Guest based on his demolition job last time in a Windsor maiden. This is a huge step up but he may just be up to it. If he is absent the reserve selection is the consistent Caspar Netscher who has done nothing wrong recently. Aidan O’ Brien’s Power would be a considerable danger if running but looks bound for the Dewhurst where he holds a favourite’s chance. The Group 1 Dubai Dewhurst Stakes over 7 furlongs follows at 3.10 and looks to be at the mercy of either Aidan O’Brien or Richard Hannon who both hold strong hands here. Power is the current favourite and probably the most likely winner having already proven himself at this level. I was however very taken with David Livingston’s effort last time and he may just represent a little more value in my reckoning. O’Brien also has Nephrite, Tibet, Reply and Daddy Longlegs entered and it will be quite revealing to see which ones turn out. Richard Hannon is represented by Bronterre
and Trumpet Major with Bronterre looking the more likely runner. Of the rest I quite like the look of Brian Meehan’s Most Improved who, with the favourite, Power, may give the selection most to do. The Cesarewitch Handicap at 3.50 looks almost totally impenetrable. In a race that could go to any one of a dozen or more I am siding with Hughie Morrison’s course and distance winner Cosimo de Medici who did us a good turn a couple of weeks ago. There are almost too many dangers to list but Palomar, Pateese, Valid Reason and Magicalmysterytour, along with the hat-trick seekers Veiled and Keys look to be the principal ones. At York bookmakers Coral sponsor most of the races and the TV racing kicks off with the Coral.co.uk Sakhee Maiden Stakes a 7 furlong maiden at 2.20, for which I am selecting Choisan who is consistent but has yet to register a win. Peter Anders, Pearl War, Marching On, Toptempo and Afaal look to be the main dangers. The second TV race from York is a very competitivelooking 9 furlong handicap (a Scoop 6 buster if ever I saw one). My top few ratings go to Oceanway, Sergeant Ablett, Capall Liath, Weapons Choice and Yojimbo (in that order) but I am going for the more unexposed John Gosden runner Dick Doughtywylie who won last time out in a very respectable time and can kick on from that. The unbeaten Beaten Up may provide the sternest test but another who could run well after a good effort last time is Seattle Drive. The Rockingham Stakes at 3.25 is a Listed contest over 6 furlongs and looks to be another very competitive affair. After waltzing away with a race up at Ayr last time Roger Sez will probably be quite a warm order to follow up but I am not so sure that the blinkers that had such a galvanising effect last time will do so again. Instead I prefer the chances of Clive Cox’s Accession who also won last time but is less exposed and could now be on an upward curve. Of the rest Parc de Launay, Luv U Forever, Miss Lahar, Justineo and Right Result could prove to be the selection’s main rivals. In the Coral Sprint Trophy Handicap over 6 furlongs at 4.05 I am keeping faith with Richard Fahey’s Valery Borzov after his win last time. This is another super-competitive race however and the likes of Advanced, Maarek, Internationaldebut, Sirius Prospect and Cheveton will keep the selection honest. If he doesn’t make the line-up Advanced and Maarek are the reserve choices in that order.

MILLERS NEWS 2011/12 BACK TO BACK DEFEATS MATCH REPORT www.themillers.co.uk
A Marc Richards double made it back to back defeats for the Millers this afternoon, as they couldn’t find a way through at Vale Park. The Millers enjoyed plenty of possession in a game that was won for the home team before half-time. Andy Scott made two changes from the side that were beaten at home to Southend last week, with Jason Taylor starting in central midfield, and Johnny Mullins making his long awaited return to the starting line-up. The Millers started brightly, enjoying plenty of possession, and forcing a number of set-pieces in a sun-soaked Vale Park. Rob Taylor looked lively down the left-hand side for the home side and went close on two occasions early on, but both times, his effort evaded the far post. Lewis Grabban had Rotherham’s first chance of the half, as he pounced on a loose ball in the area, but unfortunately Stuart Tomlinson was equal to it. A minute later he found himself in possession again on the left; the striker the skipped inside Clayton McDonald but couldn’t get his shot on target. Gareth Evans drove forward for the visitors turning inside and out before laying off for Danny Harrison whose shot was blocked by Gareth Owen, and with 26 minutes on the clock, the Millers were punished for not taking their chances. Richards, returning from suspension fired his free-kick from the edge of the area low and hard around the wall and past Conrad Logan in the Millers goal who got a hand to the effort. With seven minutes remaining until half-time the lead was doubled. Former Miller Tom Pope met Taylor’s high searching ball, to head into the path of Richards who controlled the ball before prodding past Logan to double his tally and leave the Millers with

an uphill battle in the second half. Troy Brown, who started at right-back was replaced by Dale Tonge at half-time in a change that almost paid off immediately. Tonge linked up well with Grabban to win a corner within two minutes of the second-half, and it was the Millers top scorer who prodded home the resulting set-piece only to be flagged offside by the official on the far side. Moments later, Grabban again attacked on the righthand side, but fired his shot across the face of goal with no Millers player able to get on the end of it. He also went close just after the hour mark but was this time off target blazing over the bar. Revell, again sporting the captain’s armband had his first sniff of goal on 72 minutes, but the ball cannoned off his shin, and was comfortable for Tomlinson in the Vale goal. Pope breached the Rotherham defence on two occasions, and almost managed to set up Richards for his hat-trick, but his far post cross just evaded the striker. The final chance of the game fell to Mullins, who met Tom Newey’s corner in the 94th minute with a fine header, destined for the bottom corner, but again Tomlinson was there to collect. Vale: Tomlinson, Taylor, Griffith, Owen, Loft, Richards (Little 82), Pope, Williams (Rigg 70), McDonald, Chilvers, Kozluk. Unused: Martin, Yates, Morsy Millers: Logan, Brown (Tonge HT), Raynes, Mullins, Newey, Schofield (Holroyd 72), Harrison, Taylor, Evans, Revell, Grabban. Unused: Warrington, Bradley, Pringle Att: 4983 (524)
ROVERS NEWS 2011/12 REVIVAL CONTINUES MATCH REPORT www.doncasterroversfc.co.uk The Rovers made one change from Tuesday’s starting line-up, Billy Sharp starting in place of James Hayter, who drops to the bench. The host club, Peterborough United, were unchanged from their victory over Portsmouth on Tuesday. The Rovers got the game underway on a scorching hot afternoon but the home team were soon on the attack, with Sinclair and Boyd putting shots just wide in the first five minutes. They continued to keep the pressure on the Rovers by keeping possession very well but only had a corner to show for it. However, in the 20th minute, McCANN got the ball on the right and hit a thunderous drive from the right angle of the area across Sullivan and into the far corner of the net. The Rovers riposte was to win a corner but nothing came of it. Frecklington then put wide from 25yards and at the other end first Coppinger, in the penalty area, and then Friend from distance had good shots blocked by defenders. Just past the half hour and McCann took a free kick about thirty yards out on the right but his powerful effort was pushed onto the near post and cleared by Naylor. Coppinger, again got into the home penalty area but his shot was blocked again by Zakuani. In the 35th minute Boyd, with a clear sight of goal from the inside left position just 8yards out skewed his effort wide of the far post. Two minutes later, following a Friend free kick on the Rovers right, forced successive corners. Minutes later, with the Rovers mostly in the home half attacking were caught out when Sinclair was put through on goal. Getting just inside the penalty area he fired in but Sullivan got enough of a touch on it to put it out for a corner, from which McCann put high and wide from 20yards. Following the goal the game had evened out somewhat but the Rovers had it all to do in the second half. Having set the second half in motion the home side swept downfield anf Frecklington tried his luck from 25yards but was high and wide with his effort. McCann was the next to try from way out but was well wide. Weathering the storm the Rovers got their game together and in the 55th minute got their reward. From a Rovers attack the ball came out of defence to STOCK, about 30 yards out and a cracking low drive zipped past the keeper into the bottom corner. Back came the Posh to win a corner but the Rovers came again and Parkin tried a curler from just outside the penalty area that hit the bar with the keeper well beaten and bounced away. Two minutes later, however, on the hour mark to be precise, a good run down the right by Kyle Bennett allowed him to cross. This was headed out of defence to Gillett, who shot well wide. Then. in the 65th minute, Kyle BENNETT took advantage of a mistake by Ryan Bennett and from inside the six yard box slotted past the keeper to put the Rovers in front.
This was an affront to the Posh and they tried to hit back. In the 70th minute a quickly taken free kick just outside the Rovers area put Boyd in but his stabbed effort hit a post and a follow-up shot was deflected for a corner. Five minutes later Sinclair hit a post from 12yards and at the other end Gillett put over from 25yards. As time ran down Parkin ansd Oster linked on the left to give Parkin a crack at goal but his low shot was saved. On 90 minutes Boyd and Naylor had an altercation when Boyd claimed a penalty that the referee dismissed. Both were booked. Five minutes of added time had Peterborough throwing everything at the Rovers defence but they held firm and collected a famous victory. A much improved second half gave the home team a dose of their own medicine in regard to possession and in finishing.

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY NEWS 2011/12 OWLS GO FOURTH IN LEAGUE MATCH REPORT www.swfc.co.uk
A first half headed goal from Reda Johnson sealed the points for the Owls at Hartlepool on Saturday as Wednesday move up into the play-off picture. The 1-0 success was the Owls’ third league win on the bounce - incidentally bringing Hartlepool’s unbeaten league record to an end. Wednesday made a bright start in the glorious sunshine at Victoria Park with Ben Marshall causing the Pools’ backline problems from out wide on the right. But the first opportunity of note came at the other end after seven minutes when Nolberto Solano looped his cross into the danger zone for Anthony Sweeney to head wide from six yards. That chance lifted the home side as Hartlepool enjoyed a spell of possession in the Owls’ half, delivering a flurry of crosses from wide positions, but the Wednesday defence held strong to clear any danger. It was turning into a lively contest with chances at both ends but it was Wednesday who edged their noses in front after the half hour mark. Marshall’s long throw into the area from the right was met by Johnson who glanced his header into the far corner beyond Scott Flinders. Hartlepool almost responded within minutes when Gary Liddle found space to line up a strike in the area but Owls skipper Rob Jones was well-placed to make a crucial block. Marshall then tested Flinders with a free kick from all of 40 yards before the same man almost doubled Wednesday’s lead with a vicious strike from the right
moments later. Hartlepool were finding it tough to win the midfield battle with Jose Semedo and Chris Lines dominating proceedings in the centre. In a bid to restore parity, Hartlepool upped the ante after half time and enjoyed further spells of possession, albeit with no real penetration. That was until Sweeney wasted another golden chance from a Solano cross, as the midfielder put his free header wide of the target from close range. Wednesday responded through Gary Madine who jinked his way into the area before firing just over the bar. Hartlepool were prematurely celebrating an equaliser just after the hour mark as Andy Monkhouse’s arrowed drive came back off the upright, with Wednesday able to clear the danger. Johnson almost grabbed a second in bizarre circumstances when the acting left back delivered a testing cross that required a smart save from Flinders. Hartlepool heaped the pressure on Wednesday with the best of the chances falling to Neil Austin but Danny Batth produced an outstanding tackle to thwart the danger. A quick break from Wednesday could have settled it at the death as Liam Palmer rounded Flinders but couldn’t find the target from an acute angle in added time. But the Owls held on for the hard-fought victory as Gary Megson’s men rise into the play-off positions. Hartlepool: Flinders, Austin, Collins, Hartley, Humphreys (Poole 71), Solano, Murray (Horwood 46), Liddle, Sweeney, Nish, Boyd (Monkhouse 61) Unused substitutes: Rafferty, Lyuscombe Owls: Bywater, Buxton, Batth, Jones, R Johnson, Semedo, Lines, O’Connor (Sedgwick 84), Marshall, McGoldrick (O’Grady 59), Madine (Palmer 67) Unused substitutes: O’Donnell, Reynolds
MEGSON PRAISES TRIPLE TREAT OWLS HONESTY FOR BEAMGAFFERʼS REACTION BACK FANS www.swfc.co.uk
Owls boss Gary Megson has praised the honesty and character of his players after the 1-0 win away at Hartlepool on Saturday. Reda Johnson’s first half header secured victory at Victoria Park - making it three wins on the bounce for Wednesday. Megson said: “There are a lot of things we are doing well at the moment but the thing that pleased me today is our honesty to throw ourselves in the way and accept that was what we had to do. “Hartlepool were throwing free kicks into our box from 70 yards but we dealt with everything. “You have to deal with that type of pressure, some teams have come here this season and have not dealt with it, but I’m delighted we have. “It’s a great result and we can go back to Hillsborough in good heart.” Johnson headed home his first goal of the season from Ben Marshall’s long throw in front of the travelling Wednesday fans and Megson is delighted by the manner in which his side are putting the ball in the net. He explained: “You need to find more than one way to win a game. “Every five games we discuss what we have done and what we are going to do. One of the things we stress to the players is that we need to find more than one way of scoring a goal. “We need to be good from set pieces, we need to score from distance, be good from crosses and do whatever it takes to find ways of scoring. “Today it took a set piece to do so. That’s the first game Hartlepool have lost all season and that’s two away wins for us on the spin and I’m delighted.”
SWFC NEWS www.swfc.co.uk Sheffield Wednesday are pleased to announce that the club will be providing three enhanced quality big screens for the Steel City derby beam back on Sunday 16 October (12 noon). The screens will be of equal proportions and placed equidistant along the South Stand touchline at Hillsborough to offer Owls fans the optimum viewing experience. The screens are owned by the ADI Group, the market leader in the UK and European outdoor screen rental market. ADI have provided big screen rentals for Formula 1, Champions League, NFL and many other international sporting events. Wednesday chairman Milan Mandaric said: “We will be taking over 4,000 supporters to Bramall Lane and I know we would take double that number and more if we could. “So for those who do not have tickets, we want to make sure they have the best possible alternative. Our supporters are incredible and they deserve it.” More than 5,000 tickets have already been sold for the Sheffield United v Sheffield Wednesday beam back and fans are urged to move fast to secure their seats. Supporters will be housed initially in the South Stand and then the Grandstand. Prices are £10 for adults and £5 concessions. Tickets can be purchased online at swfc.co.uk/tickets, over the phone on 0871 9001867 or in person at the Owls Megastore.

SHEFFIELD UNITED NEWS 2011/12 THREE DEFEATS IN FOUR FOR BLADES MATCH REPORT www.sufc.co.uk
The Blades were impressive in the first half against unbeaten league leaders Charlton but slipped to a second consecutive defeat. Second half goals from Yann Kermorgant and Bradley WrightPhillips, in the space of two minutes, secured the points for the Addicks. Wilson made just one enforced change for the visit of the leaders, Jean-Francois returned at left-back after Williams failed to recover from the dead leg he sustained at Wycombe. Montgomery and Parrino were added to the bench. The preferred 4-4-2 formation was also unchanged. Despite the season moving into October, the encounter kicked off in bright sunshine and summer-like temperatures. It appeared that United had warmed up the better as the early opportunities came from the home team. Jean-Francois powered an effort wide after a neat move and then Lowton curled a free-kick into the arms of goalkeeper, Hamer. Article continues Advertisement On 11 minutes Evans took the attentions of Morrison and Wiggins, the latter conceding a corner and from Williamson’s delivery, a header from the unmarked Collins was blocked on the line and Quinn could not squeeze home the loose ball. From Charlton’s first threat, Collins did well to nick the ball from Wright-Phillips in the penalty area and in the fast-paced start, United’s chances continued. An Evans shot was deflected wide by Solly and Lowton’s header, from Williamson’s corner, needed to be blocked when Hamer went walkabout. In intelligent flick from Hayes provided a great opening for Morrison, but he fired wide under pressure from Collins on 28 minutes, whilst, unsurprisingly, the pace slowed as half-time approached. From Doyle’s cross, Evans headed back across goal, in the direction of Williamson, but Charlton scrambled clear and then Doyle’s threaded pass just failed to find the bursting run of McDonald. United were clearly on top in the first half but could not make the territorial advantage count before the half-time whistle. The start to the second period was fairly even but the temperature rose on 58 minutes as Wagstaff picked up the game’s first booking for a feisty

challenge on Doyle. Just after, Quinn could not get enough purchase on a lofted effort after Maguire’s pass confused Solly and Hamer, whilst the first substitution of the day proved vital. The change was made as Charlton waited to take a corner and from a left-wing delivery by Stephens, KERMORGANT netted with his first touch - a header from six yards. Wright-Phillips almost added a quick second, taking advantage of Doyle’s misplaced pass, but the visitors only had to wait a matter of moments before doubling their lead. United had just thrown on Cresswell for Porter when a headed clearance was flicked on by Kermorgant and WRIGHT-PHILLIPS saw his first effort blocked by Simonsen but the ricochet dropped nicely for the striker, who slotted into the empty net. Wilson introduced the pace of Flynn and he quickly made a chance, delivering a cross from which Cresswell saw his header saved by the fingertips of Hamer, who was quickly back to his feet to gather the loose ball with Evans approaching. Simonsen was forced into two saves as Charlton threatened again. He tipped over a free-kick from Kermorgant and then held on at the near post from a Wiggins shot after Lowton gave away possession. With full-time approaching Doyle’s long-ranger was just wide, Hamer was at full stretch, and then the goalkeeper got his fingertips to an Evans lob after Cresswell’s flick. Four minutes of injury-time was added but, after Simonsen tipped over Green’s thunderbolt, an Evans shot came back off the post very late on - summing up United’s luck. Blades: Simonsen, Lowton, JeanFrancois, Doyle, Evans, Williamson (Flynn 73), Collins, Maguire, Porter (Cresswell 67), McDonald, Quinn. Unused: Montgomery, Long, Parrino. Charlton: Hamer, Jackson, Morrison, Taylor, Stephens, Hayes (Kermorgant 64), Wright-Phillips (Green 78), Wagstaff (Hughes 86), Wiggins, Solly, Hollands. Unused: Sullivan, Cort.

WILSONʼS VERDICT GAFFERS REACTION www.sufc.co.uk
Speaking after the Blades went down 0-2 at home to Charlton Athletic, United manager Danny Wilson was rueing missed opportunities during periods of the game when the Blades had been on top. “It was a close game but we didn’t take our chances in the time when we had a lot of pressure. “It was disappointing, particularly in the first half. We had enough chances to get our noses in front and we didn’t take them. Then in the second, two mistakes or indecisions have cost us the match, which seems to be the way things are going right now. “Both teams looked capable of winning during certain periods. The first goal always makes it very difficult if it goes against you. When you miss the chances we missed it does put pressure on you. We do still feel that we should have come out of the game with something, but unfortunately we didn’t. “Even at two nil down we were still creating chances and could have got back into the game. We have to make sure we are able to take our chances.” The Blades are next in action at The Don Valley Stadium on Tuesday night when they face Rotherham United in The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
SUFC NEWS www.sufc.co.uk Following the announcement on Monday that the Blades visit to Deepdale on Saturday has been postponed, boss Danny Wilson said: “The Preston game has been called off because of three international call-ups at their end. Two of them aren’t regulars but they have taken the option to have it postponed and those are the rules. “It doesn’t concern us really, we just want to play our matches, but it gives the management team a chance to go and look at games and players, so that is a bonus for us. “For the players it is a chance to rest up after the Rotherham game, ahead of the Sheffield Wednesday derby so hopefully everyone will be fresh and raring to go.” Ahead of Tuesday night’s JPT clash against the Millers, Wilson has given the latest update on possible loan

United’s League One clash against Preston North End, scheduled to take place at Deepdale on Saturday, has been postponed. It is after a late call-up from Northern Ireland U21s for Conor McLaughlin, took North End’s tally to three players selected for international duty this coming weekend. Iain Hume and Keammar Daley had already been called up by Canada and Jamaica respectively. The game has been re-arranged for Wednesday 19th October, kick-off 7.45pm. Any tickets already purchased are valid for the rearranged date and supporters who have purchased tickets but are unable to attend the re-arranged date can obtain a full refund from the Ticket Office before 5pm on Tuesday 18th October. The same applies for Away Blade coaches which will now depart Bramall Lane at 3.30pm for the rearranged fixture.

reinforcements: “The loan market has always been in my mind, people keep saying about last season, but I know loan players can work very well and we have to make sure we get the right ones to give us help from that area. “We have been monitoring things for quite a while now and although we don’t anticipate anybody will be in by Tuesday night, we are hopeful before the next league match. “We aren’t necessarily just looking at strikers, we know we need some more pace in the team in key areas, where we could perhaps unsettle opposition.”
