BILLY BRAGG TO PLAY FOR THE LEADMILL #SAVEOURVENUES CAMPAIGN LIVE STREAM Billy Bragg to perform a Live Stream Concert in support of The Leadmill’s campaign in conjunction with Music Venue Trust. At 8pm on Saturday 16th May, singersongwriter and political campaigner of over 30 years: Billy Bragg, will be hosting a Live Stream from his Facebook page to support The Leadmill’s campaign to raise vital funds for both the Sheffield’s iconic venue and the Music Venue Trust Crisis Fund.

The Leadmill, were planning on celebrating their 40th Birthday with a year long program of special events, but the Covid-19 crisis has now meant that they’re using the relationships they’ve forged over the past 4 decade to help raise funds for this vital cause for the development of

the future artitsts and talented teams behind them. You can watch the live stream here: www.facebook.com/ billybraggofficial

Sarah* started smoking at the age of 23 following nights out with friends who were smokers. On average she was smoking 6-10 per day but decided to stop smoking to follow a more healthy life style. Sarah attended smoking cessation support at her local GP surgery, weekly appointments for 12 weeks meant that she had the professional support she needed, Sarah found this support excellent and very helpful and without it she doubts she would be where she is now, which is smoke free. Apart from using Nicotine Replacement Products Sarah found remaining positive was a major factor for her and helped her on a daily basis. Since stopping smoking Sarah feels far less breathless than she did and has noticed a drastic improvement and feels she now has a far better health, something she didn’t have when she was smoking. Since stopping smoking

Sarah has saved over £180 in a very short space of time and plans to treat herself with a new wardrobe full of clothes. Sarah would tell anyone thinking about stopping smoking to never touch them as they control you, you don’t control them. Yorkshire Smoke Free would like to advise that during this current time of uncertainty due to the Covid 19 virus, we are still offering smoking cessation support. Appointments continue to take place by way of telephone support. Please do not hesitate to contact the service on 0114 321649.

TRAMLINES 2020 WILL NO LONGER BE TAKING PLACE Official Statement from Tramlines... Firstly, we want to share a heartfelt thank you from the whole team for your patience and messages of support while we work through this difficult situation, it really does mean the world to us. We’d also like to take this opportunity to offer our thanks for the continued dedication and hard work of all the NHS teams, key workers and volunteers in trying to combat this horrible pandemic. We would like to assure you that we have delved into all possible options to try and make this year’s Tramlines possible. However, unfortunately, after a full review with the relevant local authorities; and in the best interests and safety of our festivalgoers, artists, staff, suppliers and the emergency services; we are truly sorry and heartbroken to confirm that Tramlines Festival will not be able to

take place this year. Looking forward, Tramlines will now take place on the 23rd – 25th July 2021. After taking into account your feedback, we’re pleased to confirm that tickets and upgrades for this year’s festival will automatically be rolled over to 2021. We’d love to see you at next year’s festival, so if you want to attend, no further action is required. If, for any reason at all, you’re not able to join us for the new dates, you’ll be able to claim a refund on your entry tickets and upgrades. We’re working closely with our ticketing partners and they will be

A man walks into a bar. Lucky b*****d. I have a pen that can write underwater. It can also write other words too.

We would like to thank you once again for continuing to support Tramlines and want to assure you we’re now putting everything into planning the best festival ever. Tramlines would be absolutely nothing without you and we can’t wait to see you in July 2021.

A man walks into a doctors office. “What seems to be the problem?” Asks the doc. “It’s... um... well... I have five penises,” replies the man. “Blimey!” Says the doctor, “how do your trousers fit?” “Like a glove.”

For now, keep safe, keep healthy and look after each other.

My teenage son treats me like a god. He acts like I don’t exist until he wants something. What do snails become when they die? Escarghosts. A shop assistant fiercely fought off an armed robber with his labelling gun, yesterday. Police are looking for a man with a price on his head. My wife told me to stop acting like a flamingo So I had to put my foot down. A sheep, a drum, and a snake fall off a cliff... Ba-dumm-tsss My daughter thinks I’m overprotective and nosy. At least that’s what she wrote in her diary.

News, Information and Advice

New website supports families facing relationship difficulties Disagreements and arguments are completely normal but if they are becoming a problem then help is at hand. Relationship Matters is a new partnership between Sheffield City Council and 14 other Local Authorities across Yorkshire and Humber Region getting together to help families.

Relationship Matters is a new partnership between 15 Local Authorities across Yorkshire and the Humber Region helping families who may be having relationship difficulties. The new website is being launched to offer families information, tips and help and what better time as the coronavirus is leading to big changes in the way we live our everyday lives. Whether couples are together or separated, disagreements are completely normal. But evidence shows that regular conflict has a big impact on children. All relationships have tricky moments it is how they’re experienced and resolved that matters especially at the moment for getting us through enforced self- isolation, lock down and social distancing. We are all spending longer periods of time with our loved ones and this is bound to bring about some added challenges. Whether couples together or separated the way they communicate can impact on their relationship and their children.

• Are they not able to say sorry after an argument and move on? • Are they using hurtful texts, emails or Facebook against each other? The website can give everyone tips, information and help to stay calm, work out what needs to happen and signpost in order to get some help. For more information go to www. relationshipmatters.org.uk/

As well as this website, We have two new groups for parents to access, specifically designed to respond to the increased stress on couples who are doing their best to co-parent but finding it difficult to work as a team. There are different groups depending on whether you are parenting together as a couple, or apart. To find out more about these, go to: https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/ home/social-care/positive-parenting.

Relationship Matters can help everyone recognise the sign such as:

Councillor Jackie Drayton, Cabinet Member for Children and Families said: “I know, from being a mum myself, that being a parent isn’t easy at the best of times so when, like now, we are going through challenging times, when we are anxious about our family and friends and we’re all being asked to stay at home all together, 24/7, which we’re not used to, it can put added pressure and strain on our relationships. You might be worried, concerned or frightened but please remember there is help and support with relationships.

• Arguing, rows, shouting all the time with each other about things like, money, how you parent, housework • Are they worried about splitting up? • Is there sulking, silent treatment, slamming doors or walking away from each other • Are they anxious or worried which gets in the way of managing everyday life?

“The focus of Relationship Matters is on relationships where there is conflict and difficulties, but where things are mostly respectful, and equal. “However, if you have any concerns around controlling or coercive behaviour, violence or fear, please seek advice by telephoning the Sheffield helpline on 0808 808 2241

Council car parks free for key workers Car parks in the city centre managed by Sheffield City Council are now free to use for key workers, as identified by the Government. This includes all off-street parking owned by the Council and has been extended to the end of Monday 18th May whilst the Council reviews the latest Government guidance. The Council has already provided permits for free on-street and off-street parking for NHS staff in conjunction with the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This further suspension of charges will enable other key workers to take advantage of free parking. The Council car parks available to key workers without charge are: Broad Lane, Brook Hill, Carver Lane, Carver Street, Copper Street, Ebenezer Street, Eldon Street, Fitzwilliam Street, Rockingham Street, Science Park B, Silver Street, Stanley Street, Trinity Street, Wellington Street, Wicker Lane, Willey Street, Workhouse Lane, Parkers Lane, Spooner Road, Alderson Road and Stewart Road.

Councillor Bob Johnson, Cabinet Member for Transport and Sustainability at Sheffield City Council, said: “This a very difficult time for everyone in Sheffield and whilst we encourage everyone who can stay at home to do so, we understand that some key workers need to continue to travel into the city centre for essential work. Therefore we have decided to make this as stress-free as possible by suspending the charges on all Council car parks for key workers. We are working hard to support essential workers in our city in their work delivering vital services across Sheffield. I would like to thank all of our key workers for their dedication and effort during this pandemic.” In accordance with current Government guidelines on Covid-19, people should only be travelling into Sheffield city centre for essential travel only, such as key workers accessing their workplace. As such key workers will not require a permit to use Council car parks for free. The Council asks that everyone observes the current restrictions and you only travel into the city centre when it is absolutely necessary. Whilst Council city centre car parks are now free to use, key workers are reminded that they should still pay attention to the other parking restrictions which will still be in force such as private car parks, yellow lines, clearways or Disabled Parking bays.

(Monday to Friday 8am to 7pm and Saturdays 9am to 5pm) or by using the webchat idas.org.uk between 3pm-6pm each day during the week.

“Remember to take care and stay safe and look after yourself.’

A quiet 103rd birthday celebration for Nellie IT was probably a much quieter celebration than family and friends would have wanted for Nellie Alker as she celebrated her 103rd birthday. But staff at Sheffield charity Sheffcare’s Grange Crescent Residential Care Home in Nether Edge made sure that there were still plenty of special birthday wishes for Nellie as she marked her anniversary day in lockdown. Nellie was born in Darnall in 1917 and grew up with mum and dad Lillian and Sydney, brother Sydney and sister Janet. After leaving school, she went to work in a pharmacy, a career she continued through most of her working life. She was in her 20s when she met Edward Martin, the man who would become her husband and father to her son Alan. Nellie still recalls how she and Edward honeymooned in Blackpool and then returned to the resort every year, where they enjoyed dancing in the famous Blackpool Tower Ballroom. “Nellie is a lovely lady who takes a lot of care in her appearance, which is very important to her and also to her family,” said Grange Crescent manager Asha Oliver. “Although she only came to live with us in January this year, she has settled in very quickly and is a popular resident.”

WE WILL FISH AGAIN The Angling Trust has given a warm welcome to the announcement this week (May 10th) by Prime Minster Boris Johnson that recreational fishing looks set to resume in England on Wednesday, May 13th. The Prime Minister announced the resumption of ‘unlimited outdoor sports’ from Wednesday providing they are conducted alone or with members of the same household and that social distancing rules are followed at all times. A government source confirmed that “outdoor exercise includes angling, golf, water sports and tennis providing social distanced from Wednesday.” The decision to include outdoor activities such as angling in the first wave of newly permitted activities followed weeks of intense advocacy and lobbying by the Angling Trust which unified the angling community like never before and saw over 8,000 individual emails sent to MPs and dozens of articles in the regional and national press in support of a safe return for angling. The Prime Minister is making a full statement to the House of Commons tomorrow and the Angling Trust will be seeking clarification about the reopening of tackle shops and confirmation of any restrictions on how angling should be practised during the next phase. Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden MP tweeted: “In the least risky outdoor environments we can imminently allow sports like golf, basketball, tennis and fishing.” Last month, a report from the Angling Trust entitled ‘When We Fish Again’ was submitted to Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove and

the Fisheries and Sports Ministers arguing for recreational fishing to be designated as one of the first permitted outdoor sports when ministers begin to relax the coronavirus lockdown restrictions. It was backed by national angling and fisheries groups including the Canal & River Trust, Salmon & Trout Conservation, the Institute of Fisheries Management and representatives of the angling trade which is estimated to be worth a total of £4bn to the UK economy. The report recommended a phased resumption in line with the government’s own criteria and identified a number of good reasons why angling should be an early candidate for consideration including: • being a largely solitary sport where self isolation occurs naturally • proven benefits for mental health and social well-being • a reduction in pressure on other public open spaces • evidence that non-contact outdoor activities will not increase infection rates • angling appeals to people of all ages and backgrounds and engages able-bodied and disabled participants alike • the majority of the population live close to a waterway minimising the need for significant travel. The Angling Trust’s proposal attracted the support of MPs of all parties and from prominent figures within the angling community. Reacting to the news, Angling Trust CEO Jamie Cook said: “I couldn’t be more pleased to see the hard work of the Angling Trust and our supporters delivering such an outstanding result for everyone who loves to go fishing. demonstrated to the satisfaction of government that angling can be permitted as a safe, healthy, beneficial outdoor activity and why it can take its rightful position at the front of the queue as restrictions are relaxed. “Our effective and professional campaign was in support of a carefully thought through set of phased guidelines under which angling could be safely permitted without increasing the risk of COVID-19 transmissions. Without these guidelines we would have got nowhere and it is now incumbent upon every angler to respect them and demonstrate that we are still playing our part in the nationwide battle against the coronavirus.”

Baldock braced for behind closed doors ending George Baldock says he and his teammates are expecting to finish the Premier League campaign behind closed doors, as and when the suspension is lifted by the Government and relevant authorities. Speaking to the media

Everyone’s journey is different Fejiri Okenabirhie took Rovers’ no.9 shirt when he signed from Shrewsbury Town in January and had made a good start to life in red and white hoops scoring twice in five appearances. Speaking to the League Football Education’s (LFE’s) Touchline magazine, Okenabirhie admitted that his journey to professional football hasn’t been the most conventional and as a result education has always been important to him. While completing his apprenticeship at

earlier this week, the popular wing-back is also hoping the return of football can be a positive in what is currently an unprecedented time for people across the region, country and world. He remarked: “Watching the daily updates, the fatalities, the risk of infection, I think it’s obvious that will happen (playing behind closed doors). It might mean that the wider public get to watch it on TV and that might bring a smile to a few people’s faces, which would be brilliant.

“We understand that it will be behind closed doors and we will just get on with it and try to do our best. It’s got to be safe for everyone and we fully understand that. “Any bit of positivity that can be taken out of this situation will be brilliant. There’s not a lot to cheer about at the minute, it’s a strange time, so sitting back and taking anything from this situation would be fantastic. “We hope that if football can resume, it might put a smile back on some people’s faces.” Prior to the suspension of football across

the globe and the postponement of Euro 2020 and all international fixtures, Baldock was being tipped for a call-up by Greece. And it’s something he still hopes will come to fruition in the future, he added: “I haven’t heard anything, I think everything has been put on the back burner with no international games for a while. “I think that’s been put down the priority list from their perspective and understandably so, but I’m sure when we resume, it will get sorted.”

Stevenage, he made the choice to undertake additional A-levels on of top of the educational framework set out by academies in order to give himself the best route back into education if the apprenticeship was ultimately unsuccessful. “When you’re an apprentice, there are no guarantees that you’ll get a professional contract,” Okenabirhie told LFE in 2019. “Education gives you something to fall back on in terms of giving you knowledge and opportunities for life after football, but it can also be beneficial in the present. “It was something I wanted to do and was able to do. It was quite tough at times to balance the two but I’m pleased I got them done and it didn’t negatively

affect my football because I still got a pro contract at the end as well.” Okenabirhie believes that extra studying off the field ultimately helped him succeed on it. “As well as obvious transferable skills like self-motivation and time management, it keeps you sharp mentally and gives you something to focus on away from football,” he added. “It’s a way to relax your mind from those pressures, but also provides stimulation as you’re learning new information.” After a year as a pro at Stevenage, he was released by the club and found a home at non-league club Harrow Borough before getting a move to National League side Dagenham & Redbridge. “When I moved down to

non-league, I had more time on my hands and wanted to make use of that, so I decided to start an Open University degree in business and management,” he said. “Doing the course parttime doesn’t affect your training schedule, so I started that just after I left Stevenage. Studying part-time means it takes quite a while to complete so you’ve got to stay motivated. “If you’re someone who enjoys learning then why not continue that? For me, the Open University route has made it very manageable and it doesn’t get in the way of my football. You just have to organise your time, get that preparation right and then have the willpower to get on with it.”
