TICKETS FREE Streets Ahead is Greater Manchester’s huge, free, month long outdoor festival. Hundreds of performers take over streets and squares to delight with a blaze of colour, sound and unforgettable theatre and dance. It is Bury’s turn on May 1st when the streets will come alive with amazing displays which will have you talking for months to come. Leading French and Spanish groups Aristobulle and Leandre and Claire put on zany shows which combine magic, humour and wit - all is not as it seems! Roll Up, Roll Up! Marvel at France’s Petit Miracles ‘Flea Circus’ under the smallest big top in the world. Watch in awe as Alfredo, the skillful ringmaster and tamer directs his troupe of ‘fleas’ as they walk the tight rope and fly from the cannon. Experience the daredevil feats of Musafir as he fearlessly walks barefoot across broken glass, beds of nails and eats fire - all to the sound of ancient snake charming melodies. Closer to home, the Whalley Range All Stars astound with their ingenious machines in a truly original theatre experience, whilst Avanti Display, Manchester’s most travelled street theatre group thrill with a series of road disasters aptly named ‘Crash’. Desperate Men stage a wildly farcical show with apocalyptic horsemen and raining fish whilst the fantasy is reinforced by Hoodwink and their magical myth of creation which brings an explosion of bees, steaming earth and outrageous weather for all to experience.

The Met is run by Bury Metropolitan Arts Association, a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity (No. 701879).

The Pat McCarthy Quartet are: Pat McCarthy, guitars; Warren Jolly, acoustic bass; Ben Martin, saxes and flute; and John Perry, drums.

Tim Hains has melded a rich blend of reggae and blues, driven by a scathing, Hendrix influenced guitar style, to bring together a fresh, fun and captivating collection of music … John, Reggae Road
