Actors of Dionysus
Bacchae by Euripides
THEATRE
Wednesday 27 September
The Actors of Dionysus bring tears to the eyes and make the hair at the nape of the neck bristle… Let nothing stop you from seeing them The Times
,,
One of the best known of all the Greek tragedies, Bacchae was written by Euripides more than 2000 years ago. With its chilling parallels to modern cult tragedies at Waco, Jonestown, and most recently in Uganda, Bacchae is a visually stunning and emotionally compelling new production. When a mysterious young stranger arrives in the city, the women can’t resist him. He is their guru, they’ll do anything he asks. But soon, the rumours spread. They tell of orgies, strange cult sacrifice and a leader who claims he is a god. But when the government clamps down, the madness multiplies, the situation spirals wildly out of control, and when it’s all over… nothing’s ever quite the same again. 7.30pm Main Theatre

A Night at the Music Hall
It’s midsummer’s night in Athens. The royal wedding of the century is on the rocks as the bride does a runner with her boyfriend. In the woods they stumble upon something altogether more serious – magical sex wars between the King and Queen of the fairies.
VARIETY
Thursday 28 September
Another chance to experience that peculiar and quirky traditional English art form ‘Old Tyme Music Hall’.
A multicultural community production of Shakespeare’s most popular comedy.
Now celebrating their twenty fifth anniversary, comedy folk Saturday band The Houghton Weavers 16 September are as much a part of Lancashire as the hotpot – and possibly as famous! Proceeds from this concert go to Bury Carers Partnership
Fame Factory returns with a new and exciting line-up of variety stars and a generous helping of comedy and nostalgia in the style of the ‘Good Old Days’! It is a fast, pacey show, where the audience is encouraged to participate as they are harangued throughout by Guy Holloway a very vocal chairman! Joining him are accompanist Tony Spragg on the piano, soprano Marlene Clare and funnyman Billy Bedlam. Add to the mix magic and multi-instrumentalism with the Holloways and comedy patter from Alan McBride and you’ll have a night to remember. Could you really ask for more? We invite you to step back in time with us for one evening and enjoy a truly unique experience!

Visualise a mountain bigger than you could imagine made of all the stuff you ever threw away. Trapdemdaze lives here. This is where the whole world ends up – dead and dirty crushed up in a black plastic bag. There’s a chute comes down from the city, spits out all the things they don’t want to look at. That’s how Capina arrives. Iz the Whiz says there’s no such thing as rubbish. But Capina’s been told even kids can be rubbish. And Trapdemdaze has stolen his bike!
This is the tale of a journey into waste and dreams – of how three lost children find a voice. Through a story of an imagined future, this gutsy and compelling production encourages children to question their relationship with the environment.

The very essence of Kathak dance Electrifying North Indian Classical dancer Sonia Sabri trained with Nahid Siddiqui and has received international praise. ‘You’ is a beautifully dynamic and evocative visual, based on ghazal, a sophisticated form of Urdu poetry.
The style of the quartet ranges from the traditional structure of Kathak to modern interpretations and a contemporary analysis of the dance vocabulary. The performance splits naturally into two parts . The first part retains a classical format derived from the amalgamation of the musical and spiritual influences from Persia and India. The second half of the programme challenges current perceptions of what Kathak is and what it is capable of in terms of emotional and physical expression. With live accompaniment in the first half and especially prepared recorded music in the second, an active dialogue between music and dance is maintained throughout.
