SINGER SONGWRITER Sunday 7 October
Kiki Dee & Carmelo Luggeri
Pauline Matthews was born in 1947, daughter of a Bradford textile worker. At eighteen she was discovered singing in a Leeds nightclub. Her manager changed her name – and Kiki Dee was born! A series of albums followed, bringing her moderate success, but it wasn’t until 1976 that her duet with Elton John Don’t Go Breaking My Heart took her to the top of the charts. And then she seemed to disappear…
Now she’s back, just as passionate as before but with a whole new sound. Working with Carmelo Luggeri, her voice is supplemented with Eastern rhythms and ambient sounds to create a spiritual atmosphere that speaks straight to the heart. This visit to The Met sees her performing material from recent albums old favourites and a few surprises! Hotlink! http://www.kikidee.co.uk/

THEATRE Friday 9 November
Bored by their text-books, a group of maverick academics have taken a hostage. Maybe he’s a B-list celebrity, maybe she’s a DJ, maybe he’s a nobody. As we see them sitting in the darkness which they think might be some kind of basement, we hear them whisper; ‘Don’t laugh – this is my epitaph’. Metro-Boulot-Dodo push their trademark humour over the ledge of good taste, and stretch themselves to their physical limits to an original soundtrack and snatches of illicit video footage. Acoustic Strawbs
Rocian – Scrooge
FOLK ROOTS Saturday 19 January 2002
Thirty years on from their huge chart successes with “Part of the Union” and “Lay Down”, The Strawbs are back with an acoustic line-up. Original members Dave Cousins (guitar, dulcimer and vocals) and Dave Lambert (guitar and vocals) are joined by ‘new boy’ Brian Willoughby (who joined the band in 1978) on guitar.
The trio will be playing material from their new album Acoustic Strawbs, including new songs such as “There Will Come The Day” (written for a film on human rights for the Council of Europe) and “Not All The Flowers Grow’” (on the Aberfan tragedy) together with acoustic versions of classic Strawbs tracks.
